Taourirt Kasbah is a significant fortified residence complex that played a crucial role in securing Thami El Glaoui's authority. The kasbah boasts a rich history and architectural design, with each room containing its own unique story and meaning. While the interior is primarily occupied by souvenir shops, the picturesque exterior is definitely worth seeing en route through town. However, admission to the kasbah costs 20 dh per person and may not be considered valuable for some visitors.
Interesting historic fortified residence complex. Lot of stories and meaning inside of each room and architect design.

Another fantastic stop on our tour day. This is an outstanding building, in the city of Ouarzazate and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is worth visiting to discover its rich decor.

Beautiful from outside. To go inside, it is 20 dh per person. Not really worth the money.

Stunning architecture in both design and structure, despite the simplicity of building material. Learning about the reasoning for different sized doorways was extraordinarily and surprisingly interesting to me. Would highly recommend a personal guide, who will explain lots of different aspects and provide a lot of information. We paid 200 Dirham for just over an hour’s worth of guide.

It was a very beautiful place! Game of Thrones, Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia was shot in this place. You need to pay attention to your tour guide also. People there are so good at art! There is an entrance fee also!

Nothing special, inside its just a place for souvenirs. But its picturesque and worth a stop en route through town.

It is a vast kasbah, but when we visit when can only visit the relatively "new" side of kasbah which is totally empty and well-painted wall inside... we didn't get to see any of other patterned tiles on walls. 20MAD for entrance, don't ask for guides as there were be too much info from them. The only good thing is that you can get a good palmeraie view from the top.

Many blockbuster films have been shot there. Such as The Gladiator, The Last Temptation of Christ and The Mummy to name a few!
Very well worth seeing.

Closed because of damage from the recent earthquake. Worth a quick stop for pictures of the outside.

As in the museum opposite you have the impression of being in the film "Fort Sagan".
What I can't understand is why the Casbah on the left is completely abandoned, what are the Moroccan archaeological services doing which seems ghostly?
William Gagnadoux — Google review
Amazing architectural structure, worth visiting and checking all the intricate rooms and towers designs. Better go with a guide and pay attention to not get lost in the many staircases and doors inside. You can buy paintins and take photos of the nice surrounding views.

Kids free, adults 40 each. Good value. Highlight is the view from the roof. The older parts are currently closed, thus 4 stars. Nice markets for gifts nearby. Definitely worth seeing if in the area.

This little casbah is nice and well mantained. Don't miss the nearby castle: from the roof top you can enjoy a nice view of the sourronding country and city. Only one pithy in this nice scenery: is difficult to avoid in your photo the presence of a couple of big cell phone towers ridcously dressed as palm tree. In front the musee of cinema, well worth a visit , expecially if you have children
SO MUCH FUN. Highly recommend. Our guides were lovely and wonderful to talk with and it was such a unique and exciting experience. Went to Fint Oasis and had a delicious tea with a beautiful view before circling around the hills and looping back through the stunning and unique landscapes. VERY bumpy and dusty, so wear clothes you won’t need to wear again until you do laundry next, and bring your camera but hold on tight to it! Seriously, so much fun. The highlight of our trip!

We were not disappointed by our 1 day trip: it was a full day of beautiful landscapes and twisty tracks in the mountains. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are already talking about returning for a longer multi day trip in future. Youssef was very helpful and informative, and so kind to our 2 boys who rated this the highlight of their holiday. Bravo Kart Adventure!

Needs restore and cleaning. Exhibition is not well maintened. Although the visit to the castle will give something extra and also the entrance is kind cheap so it worth the stop.

It worth a visit once in the town. You get the chance to see costumes from famous movies and learn some funny information.
Lovely place run by lovely people! Our first impression was "wow!". This is not only a museum but a huge collection of Jewish artifacts! The place is run but the grandsons of former Jewish people who used to live in the place and they have made an amazing job keep the place intact! Definitely a must visit if you are around! The entrance is free, but I strongly recommend leaving a donation to support their great work!

If you want an authentic, genuine and different experience in Morocco then this is it, even (especially) if you're not Jewish. The lovely young guy that runs the converted synagogue, packed full of possessions from the now-departed Jewish community of this town, takes you room to room explaining about his family and the Jewish community that once worshipped and lived in the house. He speaks easy to follow French but also some English.
David Ward — Google review
It doesn’t look like anything special from the outside but it is a trove of Jewish memorabilia and you should definitely consider stopping in for a look.
Note that at the end of the tour, there was an option to give some money for the maintenance of the synagogue, and we were also asked to pay 50 MAD for the tour (we were two pairs, and each pair was asked for 50 MAD so I’m not clear on what the “per person rate” is).
I personally found it very worthwhile and enjoyed our visit!
Dana — Google review
The tour was amazing! Even just to go to the roof would have made me happy but there was much more to see. I am not Jewish but still enjoyed the history I saw.
Be warned the tour involves a few flights of stairs which may be uneven or awkwardly spaced. Caution should be used for the elderly.
I was asked 100dh for my 1 on 1 tour and obliged because Ayoub is a top lad.

What a great experience run by a very knowledgeable and friendly guide. We stumbled upon this site by accident, but it was a highlight of our trip. We learnt so much about the history of Arabs, Jews, and Berber people. It was fascinating to hear about how they lived side by side for so long. We cant recommend this enough. Make sure you visit!

A wonderful surprise on our walk around the old Kasbah Taourirt. As the Kasbah was closed, we had enough time to walk around and discover the Old Jewish Synagogue. Highly recommended to enter and get a sense of the intricate kasbah typology and a treasure trove of artifacts belonging to a jewish community that has by and large migrated. A tour was guided by an ethousiastic descendent of this community that keeps this mini-museum open to visitors.

Really interesting. Dates to the 1500's, and contains a very old synagogue and the rabbis quarters. Also serves as a museum for Jewish artifacts from across Morocco. So many very old books. We spent about 30 minutes exploring with the in-house guide. Makes me sad that two communities who lived together side by side for 1,200 years were torn apart by and after WWII. We tipped 100 Dirhams at the end for two people, which seemed appropriate.

Great authentic museum and very friendly and helpful host. The collection is expansive and gives a real insight into the cultural heritage of the area. The building is amazing and this alone justified the visit. It is rare to be able to see an authentic domestic desert structure. Difficult to find but worth the effort.

One of our best experiences into our trip in Morocco. Ayoub had a lot if knowledge about the history and culture of the old synagogue. A well preserved historical location with a very inviting atmosphere! We are only sorry for not discovering it earlier and will be sure to go again and perhaps share a tea with Ayoub and speak even more about Amazigh culture and Judaism in Morocco. You can visit the restaurant near the location and you will find him there :) Thank you for the experience!

To be fair, it was the best tour I've ever had. I was heavily looking for a place where I can discover and learn more Jewish heritage in Morocco and this place surly did not disappoint. Ayoub, our tour guide, knows a lot about the history of the place, Moroccan history, as well as Mulim-jewish and Berber (Amazigh) traditions and culture in the area. He speaks good English and he explains things very well. He showed us the whole place and he also took us pictures.
I'd recommend you go there around 10, 11ish. We went early and we had to wait for 35 minutes or so. Nonetheless, it was worth it!
I saw a review that says the tour is free, well, we were not asked to give money. However, please consider tipping the guy very well. Being very kind, and sharing valuable knowledge is worth paying for!
That said, consider visiting this synagogue if you ever find yourself in Ouarzazate especially if you are interested in the history of Morocco. Also, for researchers, this also might be a very good place for data collection, as the synagogue contains historical books that dates to hundreds of years.

A great experience!
We vistidet the old synagogue in February 2024. It was an experience, which I wouldn't want to miss. The old synagogue is quite hidden inside the Kasbah, but it really is a hidden gem! We were invited in by Abdul, who gave us an insightful tour of the entire place.
Abdul explained that the old synagogue symbolises the deep connection between the people and the different religions. We learned that the Berbers, the Jews and the Hindus coexisted in this space.
Abdul told us how the people lived inside the old synagogue, how they learned, read, ate, and talked. Any questions we had were answered, and Abdul even explained the smallest details once we showed interest.
My favourite part of the visit was that we were able to go on top of the rooftop terrace, where we had an incredible view of the Kasbah.
Unfortunately, some parts of the Kasbah were damaged due to the earthquake a few months ago.
Nonetheless, I would still fully recommend a visit of the Old Synagogue to everyone! It was truly amazing.

Really interesting tour and building. Every room full of things. Area of historic importance as well as film site for the movie gladiators. Would recommend takes around an hour with a nice cafe next door which is open during Ramadan. No fixed price donate what you feel is appropriate.
The Tifoultoute Kasbah is a historical fortress built during the 17th and 18th centuries, now refurbished into an elegant restaurant. Although not in perfect condition, it's a stunning sight atop a hill and impressively large. It's recommended to take a quick detour to see it. The Kasbah has been used as a filming location for numerous Hollywood movies, including Game of Thrones.
If you Wana visit Hollywood you have to start from ourzazzat where they made a thousand movies like GAME OF THRON...., also there's many cinema studios

Great food. Nice place and location. But we were waiting as a group (13 persons) for a whole meal around 2 hours. Tere was no one else in the restaurant. The chairs were so horrible that you can not sit comfortable for 3 mins... 2h it's a torture... Waste of time

We didn't have any food so no chance to leave a review behind for that overall atmosphere was good little cold inside. And the service was oke just part of the party had some issues with understanding or tour guid who was very friendly to make that clear but cause of the communication issues we couldn't get or questions get answered aswell as we wished they where.

This was bad. You can not go into the old Kasbah. They showed me around the new guest house which was under renovation. Just 6 empty rooms getting painted. Then onto the roof to see the surrounding and down onto some part of the old kasbah which I thought we were going to tour. They charged 20mdh entery and the "guid"
demanded another 20mdh.
I got a cup of tee at the end, which they provubly would have charged for again if I hadn't made clear that I'm not paying again. A waste of time.

We've been welcomed by the young Khalid, and we've had a very passionate conversation around his berber amazigh culture. I thank him for his kindness.
This kasbah isn't much impressive, but worth the detour for a ideal berber break.
20DH, for a visit and a good coffee. 5 out of 5

Good place to stop in and take a quick walk around and maybe read your book in the sun. It’s a derelict Kasbah with some nice seating on the terrace. No amenities so take a snack if you plan on staying for a while
Joe Nisbet — Google review
This Kasbah is definitely worth a visit, especially once they start offering accommodation in January 2019. The Kasbah is in good condition, and the guide there gives an overview of the history of the place. We had a couscous and tagine lunch which was really delicious. If you like walking I would recommend walking from Ouarzazate - Google maps shows a lovely two- hour walking route from the city which takes you on a track through farms and alongside the river. The guide showed us the bedrooms that will be offered to guests from the new year - this would be a special place to stay.
The Cinema Museum is a captivating attraction that pays homage to the artistic advancement of cinema. Visitors can explore a variety of exhibits, movies, and artifacts related to this industry in an environment that was once used as a studio for filming. The museum features old film sets, props, and cinematic equipment that visitors are encouraged to touch and interact with. It is located across from the Taourirt Kasbah and offers a unique opportunity for individuals to relive some of the epic moments captured on screen throughout history.
Beautiful cinema museum is housed in a former studio collection of old film sets, props and cinematic equipment, which visitors are mostly encouraged to touch, Located opposite the Taourirt Kasbah,
Highly recommended

One of the most bizarre museums I have ever been to. Rooms upon rooms of cinema sets and props with little-to-no signage. As other reviewers have said, it wouldn't take much to make this museum great, a few more signs with indications of which set was used for what movies. That being said, it was relatively cheap 30 dirham/person) and pleasant to wander around. Just wish I knew what I was wandering through.

It has a huge potential, but unfulfilled.
The place is filled with artifacts from movies but they all lack content and locations. It could have easily be an amazing museum if it only had content. In it's current state it's more of a warehouse for old things...

Interesting museum to walk around in, we spent less then an hour here. It would be nice if more of the stuff was labelled to know which movies they are attached to or which sets you are looking at. There are some really cool dungeon rooms and throne rooms to see and explore. Lots of amazing movies were made in the area but we didn't see many props or sets for the main movies here, atleast not listed. Still a nice place to visit!
Matt Clarke — Google review
A really fun way to not only see props from movies, but to learn a little about the life of the locals— since the movie industry employs many of the berbere people to be extras and to build the props and buildings. I recommend hiring a guide so that you can actually know what you’re looking at. The guide costs are really reasonable, and worth the extra few dollars. Find them outside the entrance. (If you’re lucky enough to hire Abdoul, you’ll have a great time.)

Nice musea with a lot of movie props. There is no explanation with the movie props. Entrance fee is 30 dhrs. The opening times according to google are until 19.00 but they told us we had to leave at 17.20 because they were going to close.

If you - like me- love cinema, and have not do much time this is a nice place to go and dive yourself in a good number of intetesting sets from many famous film. Manly you'll find a collection of thrones rooms, and of course it is funny to take a photo of your loved one pretending to be the king. There are a couple of studios, famous fir shooting "lawrence of arabia" an gladiator. Needless to say ambientations were traslated here from the original place. But what i loved most was the collection of sedan chairs and above all the display of old cinema apparatus and scene dress at the end. Looking at each old cinema part, you really got the idea how once taking shots with celluloid tapes, cutting them and then reassembling was a true work of art.

Quite underwhelming, run-down museum without clear direction or description of the exhibitions. Abandoned props and sets. Good for some photos but 30dh for entrance is honestly too much for it's poor-maintained condition. Ladies bathroom was spotless though.
Sain Dihana — Google review
It was an interesting experience and it felt like you are part of a movie but honestly the place needs some renovation.
The museum itself has a lot of unique exhibits and can provide you with a very specific experience while traveling through it, but as everything seems abandoned, you feel like you just jumped a fence into an old building and you’re exploring it.
Definitely worth the visit for the low price but don’t expect a well set and prepared path to follow.

I believe it is possible to get a tour guide here, however, we did not. We thoroughly enjoyed the museum because we went and made our own little films. On the whole, a great place where you can go and do whatever you want, as no one is around. Can’t give it a five star review though as there is little to no information, so you can’t tell what was used where.
