The Hebrew Congregation of St. Thomas is a reform synagogue located in the Western Hemisphere and holds the distinction of being the second-oldest synagogue in this region. Visitors can take guided tours from October through July to learn about its fascinating history, including the ceremonial objects and building materials that tell a story of preference and community. The sand floors are especially noteworthy, and it's only two blocks away from main shops.
What a fascinating story of preference and community. This is the second oldest synagogue in the western hemisphere. It's story is captivating and all of the ceremonial objects, asking with the materials that make up the building have a fascinating story. Addie clearly loves where she works and she brings the story to life. We even got a chance to meet the rabbi who is just charming. Make an appointment to your this synagogue - it's worth the trip!

I talked to the warden in my visit right after it opened at 9:30 am (on Dec. 27, 2023). The formal tour requires a minimum of 4 when there was only me. So, I was not really given a formal tour though the nice warden talked with me quite a bit on and off.
But it seemed to me that he was worried about the security of the Congregation, presumably due to what had happened in Israel and Gaza. He told me quite a few things. When I asked him whether the sand on the floor was really symbolic for the Exodus of Egypt, he said that there might be 5 stories which are all true, including the fact that the sand wouldn't create much noise when the fishermen stepped in with their heavy boots 😀

Interesting. Not very big, but we were welcomed by a nice man who does the upkeep, and he told us the whole story of the synagogue and some other local history as well.

Certainly worth the visit to see the 2nd oldest Synagogue in the hemisphere. Sand floors are amazing. Only about 2 blocks off the beat and path of the main shops. Free to go in and take photos. Even if you not Jewish it's worth the trip if you appreciate such things.

Pretty cool synagogue. We had a private tour that lasted about 20 minutes. It was free and informative. Worth the quick trip to see it.

What a beautiful synagogue!! It was worth the trip up the steep hill. We went in because we were hot and tired and this was one of the few places on our self-guided historic walking tour that allowed you to go in.
Inside we found a beautiful facility filled with so much history. There's a museum with lots of information and photos that tell the synagogue's story. The rabbi was there and actually greeted us and answered questions.
The sand floor and why it has a sand floor was fascinating information. We stayed for quite awhile to take it all in.

Pretty awesome place. The second oldest Synagogue in the western hemisphere! The Synagogue floor is covered with sand. You'd think it's because the of the tropical location but actually it's just to make the service quite. The guide your is amazing. They are open for tourists again since the October 2020. Must see.

Enjoyed visiting and learning! Really lovely, special visit. Didn't catch our guide's name (who was filling in for the main guide as it was her birthday and she had the day off) but thank you for your knowledge and kindness! and also for sharing your cute cat friend DB with us 🥰

Modern atmosphere with high-end food options that don’t disappoint. Be sure to visit St. Thomas Social for bottomless mimosas and if you request to see the cigar options, tell Chef Sunil that Pyper sent you!!!

Specifically, I was at 13. I had walked looking for a spot on the water and they were it! So glad. The bartender was quick and used to a proper rush. She kept an even eye on all her patrons. The octopus was good and the atmosphere had that oceanfront vibe. On the bill there was a notice about an offer, if you paid cash they gave you back a % of your bill. Probably what would normally cover the cards fees. As we've seen lately, others are adding higher fees and added tips, none of that here, they were giving back.
My compliments. I've been in the business for 50 years and to see that was a bonus for my day. Peace.

In our limited experience we found the marina very good. The staff is quick to answer the phone or VHF, and very competent.
One day we used the free dinghy dock (crowded) to provision nearby. They have a trash service for $3/bag.
Another day we fueled our sailboat. The fuel dock faces the cruise-ship dock, but even with the Disney Fantasy docked, we had plenty of room to maneuver our 50' sailboat in and out.
We called on VHF 10 to reach the marina. They had the best price on diesel in the area.

This Yacht Haven Grande location, has a lot to offer you when you visit the St Thomas US Virgin Islands. It will be one of the spots, you will ‘dock off’ from your cruise ship. They offer souvenirs shops, restaurants, bars, taking sailing trips, live-music, picture moments, etc. Add this location to your list, if you are planning to visit the island.

Cute little Marina with some shops and restaurants. Very typical stop in the Caribbean. You can catch taxies there to do a little island exploration. Just be mindful that your cabbie was not sitting on the wall smoking" a you know what....."

If you're a cruiser and don't have millions in your bank account, STAY AWAY !!!
The Marina is okay but $6,70/ft is kind of criminal, especially there is nothing worth it (no amenities, nothing). The fuel dock is easy to reach, BUT, don't step on the dock or let your crew or guests leave the boat during your fill-up !!! They charge you $1.50/ft for Pickup/Drop-off fee, even if you just spend $1000 for fuel. Don't bring your garbage ($15/small bag).
They Nickel & Dime there customers for everything.
In 20 years of cruising I never experienced that kind of Rib-Off in a marina.

Great place for shopping or dining. Plenty of restaurants to choose from. It’s right off the water and marina, and conveniently located off of one of the main streets.
I recommend visiting. It’s a great place to hang out and meet with friends. We had dinner overlooking the water. It was sweet and romantic.

Beautiful marina. Staff inside the office were unfortunately a disappointment. Had to scan a document and the lady inside told me that the scanner has never worked since she had started working there. She said that she has been working there for 6 months. I went over to the scanner and scanned my document with ease. Emailed it to myself. Disappointing experience in an otherwise beautiful and friendly marina.
