The Charco del Ingenio botanical garden is a vast nature preserve located on the edge of San Miguel de Allende. The gardens feature an extensive collection of cacti and other Mexican succulents, as well as hiking trails that lead deep into the surrounding trees, bush, brush and scrub. El Charco del Ingenio has even been declared a holy Peace Zone by the Dalai Lama himself!
Beautiful botanical garden. About 30 min walk from city center. Going is all up hill and pretty steep or take a taxi. Walk is through a very nice upscale neighborhood and beautiful houses. It’s a great place for a slow walk or nice hike. The grounds are very pretty. Lot of cacti and succulents. Very clean and well kept. Nice cafeteria for a cold drink and snack after a long walk. Pleasant staff and nice store with some art work and cacti for sale. Great peaceful getaway from the city. Very natural and peaceful , pretty canyon and lake at the bottom of trail.

Admission is $80MEX per person. I’d say it’s worth it. I arrived at around 10am and there was no line to enter and plenty of parking available — although I was on foot.
I took the trail over the dam to the furthest boundary at the top of the property and was impressed by the quiet and the bird life. The cactus were flowering too which was a joy. Also on the water there is a multitude of bird species, waders, ducks, and swallows.
The ruins are pretty cool and there’s plenty of interesting info.
There’s a small cafe and gift store.

This beautiful botanical garden is a must if cactus and succulents are your favorite plants. Is a quiet place to have a walk immersed in nature with stunning views of San Miguel de Allende. I recommend getting there by walking from the city center, it's 30 minutes away with some elevation but you will have the privilege to admire some of the most beautiful colonial villas of the city.

Amazing place! A must visit, away from the business of the city. Beautiful architecture of the visitors' center and museum. The grounds are fantastic, with some interpretive signs. Make sure you get to the solar observatory!
Take a taxi here, about $M 70. Worth it.

Admission is 80 MXN/ person. It took is about 2 hours to explore most of the stops on the map.
There are many species of cactus and nice views overlooking the canyon. The path is generally leveled and accessible. There is an alternative path into the canyon which is an adventurous experience for those who want to see more. Make sure to bring proper shoes, sun protection, and enough water.
The visitor's centre is beautiful and there is a lot of useful info about the history of the place. Highly recommended for a visit.

This place is so worth it! At first you think it's going to be just some out buildings with cactus samples inside, the dirt trails seem very low end, but once you get down near the lake edge and beyond you will see the most beautiful landscape along the dam and the beautiful rocky cliffs and a giant old aqueduct from who knows how long ago, the remains of an old mill from the 1500s!!! I even saw a juvenile Black crown night heron just sitting in a tree next to the path if you didn't notice him you'd walk right by. Make sure you go all the way in!

A tranquil, expansive park just a few minutes outside of the historical center. I came in the morning and was one of the only visitors. I enjoyed a peaceful walk along the water surrounded by birds and native plants. Definitely a highlight of my time in San Miguel!
Theresa Edwards — Google review
My family loves walking here. The views of he city are spectacular and the cactus ate gigantic. Go early because it can get really hot.
Ralph Poole — Google review
This botanical garden is almost all native plants and due to the climate, mostly cactus or similar types, however they do have a small lush area. The paths are dirt and wind through the garden. Bring something cool to drink as it can get very hot. Downside is you cannot meander on your own and have to go through with a group and a guide.
Ted Eckman — Google review
A bit out of the way from the city but very interesting place to visit if you want to see dessert plants. Plan around 2-3hrs to see everything that they have. Inside the garden it was a lot of walking and you can even cross the dam to explore the other side. If you go on the west loop you can see a gorgeous view of a canyon. One of the more interesting places to visit if you are tired of souvenir stores and restaurants.
We took a taxi there which should cost about $90 but to come back we had to walk back to the main road to flag down a taxi. The second taxi driver charged us $150 to go back to the city.

A very beautiful place to visit. Peaceful and lovely to walk around. I give four stars only because it seemed to me like the woman at the reception/gift shop doesn’t like foreign tourists or maybe specifically Americans? I’ve been wondering all day if it’s us being American or maybe even my boyfriend being Asian. Anyway, I don’t think her animosity was deserved towards people who are just quietly visiting this place. My only interactions were buying admission and buying a few things from the gift shop but I just felt like she was upset we were there. Hostile and strange.

Love this little out of the way heaven...quiet and serene. Beautiful gardens, green houses, ponds with fish and tadpoles, fountains and a seemingly endless variety of high desert plants and animals...80 pesos to get in. Great gift shop, little food court, clean bathrooms, and nice little museums. Go during the cooler parts of the day. Have on walking shoes.

Photos don't do this park justice! It was the best 50 pesos I spent on my trip to San Miguel. The highlights for me were walking the trail closest to the majestic canyon and admiring the peaceful conservatory. We walked from downtown but I'd highly recommend going by car or taxi because it was steep uphill the whole way. The visitor center staff was very friendly and called a taxi for us when we left.

What an amazing place! Our visit to El Charco was a highlight of our time in San Miguel de Allende. The preserve is beautiful and the work happening here is very important. The visitor center is impressive and informative. The conservatory was gorgeous and there’s art to discover along the many trails. Helpful staff and an affordable entrance fee. Go in the morning if it is hot. And arrive by Uber or taxi and save your legs to walk around the preserve!
The imposing pink spires of the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel are a sight to behold, and this famous church is well known for its gothic architecture. Legend has it that the architect designed the place of worship based only on a postcard he had seen of a Gothic church in Belgium. The interior of the church is spacious and colorful, with images of local saints lining the walls and vivid scenes from the crucifixion depicted on them.
Impressed with this place! On the inside even better. A must see if you stop by San Miguel de Allende.

The centre of San Miguel de Allende... always filled with tourists and locals enjoying the energy and spirit of the place. Evenings are especially busy as rival mariachi bands compete for the crowds attention and children dance and squeal with delight. Not very peaceful, but lots of fun.

Pretty, rather laid back. There are a lot of photo ops. Open a lot of hours I suggest going at different times of the day as the lighting the look. Sunset is especially pretty. Take time to find all the statues. The intubation of Jesus can be particularly bloody.

Beautiful and free. No entrance during services. Not as good to go mid day as the church is washed out for photos. Best photos can be taken from the left and right of the church inside the gate.

The fact that the architect of this church was inspired by one that is located in Colony, Germany without having the opportunity to visit it, makes this site and its architecture a true masterpiece.
It is a perfect spot for weddings and social events. In my opinion, it is more beautiful outside than inside but giving it a chance is totally worth it. It’s height and gothic style make it stand out from any other building around. Definitely the most important and iconic stamp of San Miguel.

The Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, located in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, is a stunning and iconic church known for its unique architecture and historical significance. Here are some key aspects:
Architectural Significance: The church is renowned for its neo-Gothic style, particularly its striking façade. The design is attributed to Zeferino Gutiérrez, a self-taught architect who was reportedly inspired by Gothic churches in Europe, particularly the great cathedrals of France. This inspiration is evident in the spires and intricate details of the exterior.
Historical Background: The original church on this site was built in the 17th century. However, the current iconic façade was constructed in the late 19th century. This period was marked by significant political and social changes in Mexico, and the church's evolution reflects some of this history.
Cultural and Religious Importance: San Miguel Arcángel holds a central place in the religious and cultural life of San Miguel de Allende. It's not only a place of worship but also a symbol of the city. Its image is often used in representations of the town and is a major draw for tourists.
Location and Community: Situated in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, the church contributes significantly to the town's status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The town is known for its well-preserved historic center, vibrant arts scene, and cultural festivals, with the church often playing a role in these events.
Tourist Attraction: For visitors, the church is a must-see landmark. Its unique architecture stands out among the colonial buildings of San Miguel de Allende, making it a popular subject for photography and a central starting point for exploring the town.
In summary, the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel is not just a religious site but also an architectural marvel and a symbol deeply embedded in the cultural fabric of San Miguel de Allende. Its unique style and historical significance make it a highlight for both locals and tourists alike.

This church really makes this whole town even more special then it already is. The church was quite busy even on a weekday, there is a lovely square nearby with heaps of people. The design of the church is phenomenal, it is free to look Inside. We walked here from parking further away in a free parking area on the side of the road.

The park contains a variety of trees, flowers, and paths that make it a perfect place to relax after a long day of sightseeing. There are also benches and play areas for children, making it the perfect destination for a family outing.
Beautiful city park esp if you like gardening , succulents and cacti. The whole park is lined with locals selling multitude of succulents , cacti , flowers and other plants. Lot of families around , safe and clean place. Also some nice garden pottery and ornaments for sale. Because it’s away from the central area more local prices. The variety of succulents and cacti is amazing , so many types I have not seen before.

I visited this park the day before a friend's wedding. It's a nice size park that you can take a good long strobe but it's not too large. There are playgrounds and even a full size basketball court. The people here are friendly. It's surrounded by home so it's not too touristy. The nearest bar is about 5 minutes away by feet.
There's a really large gazebo that can fit easily 50 people. We gathered here when it rained. Attaching picture is from our experience.

A cool place to check out once, and the guides do know their stuff, but it's nothing more than a botanical garden with a short circuit. You can go for small hikes but the heat can be a lot. It's meant to be on dessert plants, so it does look like it.

The Museum of Historical Casa de Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, tells the story of Ignacio de Allende and the Mexican War of Independence from a local perspective. The house where he was born and raised is on display, as is his uniform and weapons. Other exhibits cover the city's history from the 16th century to independence in 1810.
Great collection of indigenous masks and wonderful stories by owner and guide Bill.

It is located in the center of San Miguel on the corner with the main church. The entrance is $70 MXN (price per person).
It has two floors. In this museum you will be able to appreciate a lot of the history of Mexico's independence, plus you will feel like a visitor since it was the Allende house. You will find simulations of what their rooms, kitchen and other areas of the house were like.
You can read in Spanish and English (but in a very limited manner).
It is a must to understand how Mexico fought for its independence while learning about the day to day life of the Allende family,

The church, which is Unesco-listed, is famed for its ornate facade and tower. Completed in 1799, it features Moorish designs and was funded by donations from local wealthy families as well as takings from bullfights.

It was very cool museum! When i heard "thus is toy museum." I thought "oh! So I can see what Mexican used to play with whe they were kids." HOWEVER I WAS COMPLETELY WRONG! This museum is presenting toys that "showed from Toy exhibition of Mexico." I went here with Mesicsn girl who around 30. And she told me "most of toys here she never played with." So we were curious and asked staff there. That is how we got that information. Anyway even those toys are not real playable one, it was interesting to see and enjoy. If you go to San Miguel de Allende, I recommend you go here. Even you are not interested in toys, WHAT ABOUT BEAUTIFUL ROOFTOP FOR PHOTOS? You won't regret paying 80 pesos for enter this museum. This is a lovely museum to walk around and would highly recommend to everyone even without children. So many old fashioned, Mexican toys to see. We had young children (1&3 yrs) and they were a little too young to understand they weren’t allowed to touch everything. There is a small area with some toys in to play with, which they loved. Very inexpensive to enter, 40 peso each. Children under 5 free. Fantastic collection.

I was actually not impressed with El Morador at all. After visiting the one in Guanajuato Capital this one is not impressive. It is too far from downtown to appreciate the beauty of the churches and there’s also overgrown trees and brush that obstruct your view of most of the town. In this place you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city, including the town church and the rest of the city’s main buildings. It’s not fantastic by any measure, but if you have some time to spare, it’s worth a quick visit. If you stroll up there, be on the lookout for some of the streets that go down, where there are beautiful picture opportunities.

A place where you can find the best view of San Miguel de Allende. Great for some photo taking but nothing special other than that.

Great scenic view of San Miguel centro and Church ⛪️. One can see the view through a binocular or a binocular vision machine available here at 5 pesos per person. On the day of our visit it was not working. But it's a breath taking view from here both during day and night to the San Miguel city.

A cool spot overlooking the town of San Miguel De Allende. You can see the Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel from here and quite a few homes around too. It is quite a walk (about 20 minutes) going uphill to get to this point on a busy street. If I had to do it over again, I'd probably walk through one of the side streets and meander my way up to get to this spot where there's less traffic and not on a hot day like we did. Otherwise, enjoy the view!

For a city known for its views, the vistas from El Mirador can't be beat.
The Centro Cultural Ignacio Ramirez El Nigromante is a fine cultural centre located in an 18th-century convent that has previously served as an elementary school and housing cavalry regiments during the Revolution. There are exhibitions on display throughout the year, and it also provides classes and studios for artists.
Very nice area with some resting and dining area. It also has a few museums.

If you are just wandering around and there isn’t much to do this is the perfect place yo just take it slow under the shade, appreciate murals and maybe even witness a performance of some sort. There is a new coffee shop inside as well with very affordable prices and some of the nicest servers around. It is a perfect stop if you just need a break. Years ago I was here for a Spanish Guitar concert and it was packed, so I am glad I got to come back for its relaxed and freer times, if nothing for it amazing architectural beauty and the views of the domes from the terrace. I recommend.

I came here to SMA for several weeks way back in 2001 and this was one of my fave hangout spots. Back then I used to go to a little café inside the courtyard there and practice my guitar, inspired by the scenery.
Haven't been back since, but boy, I wish I could just up and leave and make my way back out there.

This public museum is situated inside a well preserved historic landmark building. The exhibitions are great, you’ll have the chance to take a look at truly original murals from Siqueiros. Just be mindful it’s not a pet friendly visit, even when you get inside no questions asked from the receptionist… the guards inside will kick you out!

Beautiful courtyard but the public was not allowed entry anywhere else including the hallways, rooms, or upstairs on the two occasions I visited. On one, the bathrooms opening onto the courtyard were locked and the guard advised they were not available. They were open on the other visit when a bazaar was being held in the courtyard. Nice bookstore, Spanish-only that I could see. I would return only during specific events.

Admission was free upon this review, nice small art/cultural center with great murals and art. No public restrooms though but a small cafe inside. There also is an ice cream vendor on the corner that probably served the best and cheapest ice cream!

This is a beautiful space, with small separate galleries. A very peaceful place to visit. We returned a few times while we were in SMA, including to see a great free guitar concert one evening. Check out their bulletin boards for events.

Amazing places to visit and to take a coffee! I think this was one of my favorites places across the town.
Free pass and sometimes they offer 10 minute tour telling you the history of the place so I recommend to take it.
Go early also to enjoy the place with less people possible 🙂

There is a wonderful courtyard with views on the church and bell tower. There are a lot of gorgeous murals. Place is a quiet retreat from busy streets.
The San Miguel Adventure Park is a great place to go if you're looking for something to do outdoors. It has zip lines, swings, and other activities that are perfect for those who love adventure. The park also offers horseback rides and quad biking, which provide plenty of excitement and adrenaline rushes.
This was our first time visiting this place. We found it on Google and it was great. I was able to make a last-minute reservation the night before and didn’t know what to expect in the morning. We had the zip line/suspension bridge package. It was way better than expected and worth the money. It’s a total of 7 zip lines which gives you a lot of time to get used to it, take pictures and videos, and enjoy the landscape. Our guides were super nice very professional, and helpful. They took pictures with our cameras and we had great conversations as well. I would recommend this place. Safe travel. Prost

Did the Zipline/ATV/horse riding package. Zipline was really fun and there's some amazing views while doing it. ATV was definitely the highlight of this trip, one of the guides brings you all around San Miguel and up to a beautiful look out point and then through the city and out to the country side then back to the park. Horse riding is a little boring and slow but there's some lovely views in the dessert. Pedro was our guide and he was fantastic. The ATV tour is a must if it's your first time in San Miguel.

Great day on the ATVs. We thought we were going to be in the brush but it was a great tour with Gustavo of down town, the farms, reservoir and much more. Very pleasant experience.

Five of us went here to go zip lining. All except the 8-year old were nervous. The guides reassured us and went with us. It was a fun a adventure.

It was an unforgettable experience! It was definitely worth it. The view is amazing and the tour guides (Luis and Pepe) did a great job! They were funny and joked around the whole time. Made us feel welcomed and safe. Next time I'll make sure to visit them again. Would definitely recommend.
