The Waimarino Adventure Park is an amusement park with various water activities, including kayaking. It's a great venue for families to have fun. However, some people dislike the fact that visitors have to pay $10 just to get in.
Had the best family day with my grandchildren, so much to do great value ,
We didn’t want to leave , would definitely recommend, ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was one of those tourist activities that I wasn't sure would warrant my time but I was wrong (yet again). After a short drive in the minibus with Josh our guide and with Kayaks in tow we arrived at McLaren falls. Josh got some drinks and snacks ready for us whilst he unloaded the kit. The river ride (we were in the 2 seater kayak) was very rewarding and the fading twilight made it quite dramatic but the glow-worms (Māori name is titiwai, meaning ‘lights reflected in water’, and their scientific name, Arachnocampa luminosa, translates to ‘bright spider-worm’) were fantastic. Josh was a fountain of knowledge, honesty and humour and this adventure is right up there with the best of the glow-worm tours. I can totally see why this is such a hit with the cruise ship passengers. Thank you.

Not your standard water park with 'plastic water slides', but sbout a dozen different kind of activities all revolving the close by river. The free kayaks on the tranquil water were amazing (and free...).
We didn't know what to expect, and all the family from 8 to 50 y/o didn't want to leave...

The service was pretty average. We weren’t greeted with smiles and comments of great to see you what a fantastic day. It was all about the money. We even had to pay to be there in the park plus use the barbecue extra cost. I just would say it was average service.

A great family day out if the weathers good. 2 adults 2 children $135 (also add on 15% public holiday supplement which brings it to $155.25) Theres a choice of slides, ropeswings, kayaks, paddleboards and the Blob inflatable. Advise you to take your own food and drinks to keep costs down. Plenty of picnic tables and shaded areas. I think the cafe is the only area that needs improvement, staff are young and inexperienced and waits for coffees and snacks were long even with a small orders being placed. Maybe getting one person taking orders and 2 people on the coffee machine would be helpful.
McLaren Falls Park is a spacious park situated on the edge of Lake McLaren. It offers a scenic hike that leads to a beautiful waterfall, as well as opportunities for kayaking and camping. The park has plenty of shaded areas with trees, making it ideal for walks at any time of day. There are also designated picnic areas with BBQ grills available. However, visitors should be aware that some toilet facilities may not be well-maintained, particularly those close to the waterfalls.
Some of natures best is on offering here. The camp grounds are still closed, but we were really just after a walk around, and this place was perfect. We went on the Waterfall Track, and the bush gets very thick and dense, you really get that whiff of fresh forest air, it’s so refreshing. The walking track itself is also very easy, 20 min loop, we did it with small toddler, very walkable. There is a car park at the entrance and also public toilets. Very cool walk, lots to see and honestly some of the best native trees I’ve seen.

This stunning location isn't just about the breathtaking views; it's incredibly visitor-friendly too.
From the moment you arrive, the ample parking space makes the beginning of your visit stress-free. Whether you're here for a leisurely stroll or a more adventurous exploration, you won't have to worry about finding a spot to park your car.
The cafe near the entrance is a delightful spot to fuel up or unwind after enjoying the scenic trails. The selection of snacks and beverages is ample, making it a perfect pit stop to refresh and recharge during your visit.
One of the standout features of McLaren Falls park is its cleanliness and maintenance. The park is kept in pristine condition, which enhances the natural beauty and makes for a pleasant visit. Additionally, there are plenty of toilets available, which are well-maintained and conveniently located throughout the park. This is a huge plus for families and groups spending the day exploring everything the park has to offer.

I love the waterfalls but my family enjoyed the walk and the scenes much more.. The area is well shaded with trees so you could go for a walk there at any time during the day just get your insect repellent spray in hand. There are nice areas for picnic and grills for BBQ. Toilets are available and clean except the ones that are very close to the waterfalls were very dirty with sh*** in the basin!!!
I forgot to mention that the walk tra k is suitable for families with baby pram until you reach the falls, there are steep stairs and it is difficult to continue the road with the pram

About a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Auckland! It's a great idea to chase the tail end of autumn before it ends. Unfortunately, I arrived late, and most of the maple leaves were gone. The weather was also not very good, which was a pity indeed.
However, the sense of solitude brought by the bare branches adds a different flavor.
It's a perfect place for a picnic and to enjoy the natural scenery!

Beautiful camp grounds. We opted to forego the lakeside views and stay at pin oak flat as opposed to top flat which had too much duck poo on the camp grounds, not ideal for the little ones running a muck. Pin oak flat was perfect with a big open field, great facilities including hot showers. Beautiful nature walks, water holes, noticed an animal petting zoo and kayak fishing on the lake.

We stayed at the hostel in the park. The house sleeps ten, has two toilets and two showers. The kitchen was well equipped and had all the plates etc . Two fridges, two microwaves , an oven and air conditioning. Very good value for the price. The house is situated at the back of the park and is very quiet and secluded. Plenty of space for camping, a fire pit and deck along the back with magnificent views across the park and Mt Maunganui.
The park is beautiful with several good walks and the opportunity to swim, kayak, paddle board on the lake.

Mount Maunganui, located in Tauranga, New Zealand is a popular tourist attraction with stunning ocean views. The volcano at the summit of the mountain is extinct and there are hiking trails that offer panoramic views of the sea.
When you live in a beautiful country, you got to make most of it. No visit to Mt Maunganui is complete without climbing the summit of the Mount. The access is from the beachside and there are two options to climb to the top. Ones a short one but is steep and has loads of steps. The other is a longer one but few steps and mostly a gravel track. Recommend the steps for the fit as the views are amazing.
Hemal Jani — Google review
Well worth the effort to get to the top. I Recommend taking a pause on the way up and take in the views which appear at each turn. It was pretty hot on the day I climbed so take water to keep hydrated.
Decent was harder than the ascent. Pretty slippery at stages. Not a real issue, just take care.
An awesome view from the top

A lovely place to stroll and trek, good for family as well.
Overlooking the Pilot Bay, the path here is manageable and wide enough so it’s comfortable for families with kids.
We walked here before sunset and enjoy the scenery along the way. There are many information boards regarding relevant rules on fishing (which many people do on the Pilot Bay Harbour and some parts of the beach) as well as about the native plants, statues and history of the place. Very interesting.
Parking spots are available near the entrance and along the bay.
indah nuria Savitri — Google review
Almost gave it a 4-star as the main trail was very steep with mediocre views. But the view at the top is worth it. On my descent I took the back route which was longer but a more gradual incline and beautiful views - the better option in my option.
It’s around 20-30 mins to walk the fastest (steepest) trail, 30-40 using the back trail. You can also walk the circumference which is longer again and almost completely flat

Honestly a pretty fun climb. Not terribly difficult and plus there is a walking path that goes around if you don't want to climb to the top but rather just enjoy a nice stroll. We did both and it was worth it.

The most visited place in Tauranga, you should go early in the morning to find a parking as it can get very busy throughout the day, cafes and restaurants get really busy from morning.
The walk around the base track is scenic and great for kids, and it's stroller friendly, go prepared as it can take up to 2 hours for some to do the full track.
Dileepa Navaratne — Google review
A nice wall up. Take your time, can be a bit strenuous. Shade more at the top and going down than on the way up. Take the steps up and walk ocean side going down. Beautiful views both ways. Take your water with you as there is no fountain or anything at the top. There are bathrooms at the base, so go before you start. Parking duringnsummer holidays can be hard so I recommend going early, park as you can and walk. Going early will also help to beat the heat and the crowds. Enjoy!

Do you love beaches? Walking? Hiking?Nature? Name it and you can do it all here, it is not that crowded, it is just fine to enjoy the nature while hiking until you reach the top of mount maunganui summit and you will find the picture perfect view for you😁 the view is really breathtaking for me.

One of our fave places to visit. Parking a bit tough because its so busy but we usually get parked.
A walk around or up the mount is a must. Amazing views from the top and equally great sea views when walking around.
Great cafe's and eatery's, plus good shopping.

More of a mound than a mount but it's a nice, pleasant walk to the top. There are 2 ways to get to the summit with one being steeper than the other.
The view from the top is spectacular with the Pacific on one side and the town of Tauranga on the other.
Dosen't take long to climb up so it's worth it if you're in the area and want to get a birds eye view of the area.

Third trip here and loved it everytime. Round the base of the Mt Maunganui mountain is a lovely walk with beautiful views of the harbour and the sea.
For the brave, a climb to the top at 761 feet is a nice workout. It is an extinct volcano. Provides some spectacular 360° views.
The area around has evolved into a nice place with shops of all kinds. Good coffee, food, surf shops among others.
Plenty of beachfront rentals if you want to chill out for a few days.

The walk around the mountains was met with stunning views off the see and the wind can get sometimes the better of you at the backside of the mountain . The walk is really nice and not to tiresome . Do wear the right shoes . Sandals will be uncomfortable.

Truly stunning spot with incredible views over sea & land. Quite steep to the top and lots of steps but I'm not that fit and I managed it easily enough. Great exercise!! The paths up and around are well maintained and structured. Can get quite busy but everyone is friendly.
Mark Titley — Google review
I'd recommend taking the Pilot Bay side for the ascent and main beach side for descent. You'd see locals/regulars completing it like it's nothing and then visitors like me making a lot of effort to reach the summit. Taking breaks means you can absorb changing landscapes in all their glory. A picture speaks a thousand words, totally worth the effort. Be cautious on descent, gravel can be slippery.
Saurabh R — Google review
Brilliant views, quite a steep climb and a pretty busy track. It took about 2 hours up and down with my 6 year old grand daughter. Not too hot yesterday which made it pleasant. Council are finishing an attractive star dial on the summit.
Dora Green — Google review
Amazing short hike. Many routes to take. Well signposted. I hiked during day, so can’t say much about hiking in the night/dark, but I did not see any lights on the way. So I assume maybe it will be difficult to see in the dark? 😕
The hike can take between 25 mins to 1 hour depending on how fit you are and which route you take. There are multiple routes you can take, with different routes having different levels of elevation - so some are moderate, easy or hard. It will tell you on the map at the base of the mount.
Hike back down is quicker, but when wet, it can be slippery, especially down the steeper route. So take extra care.
On the steep route which goes past the watertower, there are plenty of places with benches to stop for a moment of reflection, with a view of Tauranga Docks (west of the mount).
On the route there several posts with information about local history. The routes are well signposted to point you in the correct direction.

On the island surrounded by the sea, the white sand beaches mingled with the blue water, and the coconut trees swayed in the breeze. Distant coral reefs loom in the transparent water, and colorful fish swim among the corals. The white clouds and sunshine in the sky make the whole island picturesque.

The best day in New Zealand!!!
We climbed to the top of Mauao and loved it . It took us about an 45 min to get to the top and the same time down , but the views are spectacular.
Mix of light rain and wind did not change our opinion. These trails are amazing.
You can choose from different trails accordingly to your choice and experience, but all of them are spectacular. We started from the side of the port and got down on a side of main beach.
With view of water, clouds and natural forest.
Atlantic the bottom we found a lot of ships that met us very friendly.
Nadezda Musatova — Google review
Spectacular views from the summit and throughout the hike up! Make sure to wear appropriate hiking shoes and bring a backpack for water. It is a couple hour journey round trip!
I would recommend to walk UP from the ship/harbor side and walk DOWN the beach side. The reason for this is the way down has many stairs and is easier not to slip on the gravel because it is quite steep in some areas compared to the harbor side. The harbor side is mostly gravel with a lot less stairs.
We also did the flat path that goes around the base of the mountain, which was much easier and more relaxing!

Embarking on the Mauao / Mount Maunganui summit hike is an exhilarating journey, offering awe-inspiring panoramas from the summit and captivating sights throughout the ascent. The hike, typically a 45-minute to 1-hour climb, rewards the adventurous with breathtaking vistas that make every step worthwhile. It’s essential to come prepared with suitable hiking shoes and a backpack to carry water, ensuring a comfortable and safe experience.
For those seeking a challenge, the route starting from the beach side, adorned with numerous stairs, presents a robust pathway. This route is particularly recommended as it reduces the likelihood of slipping on steep gravel sections, a common feature on this trail. Conversely, if a more relaxed hike is preferred, beginning from the pilot bay side, characterized by its gravel path and fewer stairs, is an ideal choice.
During the summer months, it’s advisable to plan your hike for early morning or late afternoon. The cooler temperatures during these times offer a more pleasant experience, as the midday sun can intensify the heat, making the journey more strenuous.
Descending the trail, which typically takes about 30 to 40 minutes, provides a different perspective of the stunning surroundings. The beach side descent, with its abundance of stairs, complements the ascent on the harbor side, making the entire experience well-rounded and deeply satisfying.
Whether you’re seeking a vigorous challenge or a leisurely stroll with nature, the Mauao / Mount Maunganui summit hike is a must-try adventure that promises to enrich your spirit and invigorate your senses.

I was encouraged to visit Tauranga to climb Mt. Maunganui, and despite the squally, rainy weather intermixed with sweltering sunshine, I’m so glad I did. The hike is a bit challenging, but most will be able to handle the ascent, and what great views! It’s a must-do for any visit to the north island. You won’t be disappointed.
Kaiate Falls is a popular waterfall in Tauranga, located about 17 kilometres away. It is often visited by those who want a quick weekend getaway. The falls consists of two waterfalls, each with a swimming hole.
A beautiful walk. Track is slippery when wet. Nice swimming to be had but very cool fresh water. Nice place for a picnic or to chill and just take in the negative ions and recharge.

A lovely day outdoors in outstanding weather under blue skies in late March... Several walking tracks provide access in and around this bush reserve. A stream feeds four waterfalls, three of them above viewing and one at ground level. A rocky terrain could provide a base for swimmers or those wanting to sit, observe, enjoy the ambience and partake of a picnic... A toilet is available adjacent to the car park.
Steve Dyer — Google review
Nice hike down to see the waterfall. The signage is not very good. You'll probably get a little wet. It's steep, around 50 meters in elevation. You walk down from the car park and then back up. You can go in a circle or take the same route down and back.
There are 14 parking spots in the car park. The car park can be used for freedom camping as well. There is one porta potty, one garbage can, and one picnic table at the car park.
The road is mostly gravel/dirt, up and down part of the mountain. Very narrow road. Google Maps gets a bit lost and doesn't know exactly where the car park is, but follow the scenic lookout sign and you'll be fine.

A beautiful place that is not being respected by the vandals that think they are artists. However, when you can look past tagging and burnouts on the road getting here you find a very special water fall system that should be cherished as a place for peace, reflection and enjoyment, a place to ground and be one with the power that exists here if you take the time to appreciate what life source is here. If you have to leave anything here, then you have a lot of growth and personal development to embark on. Look after these places, they will, in turn, look after you when you need it.
A good amount of parking and a basic toilet. Plenty of steps. No special needs access.

Located at the heart of Tauranga's CBD, the Hairy Maclary and Friends Sculpture is a must-visit attraction for families. These life-sized bronze statues depict characters from the popular storybook series and are set against a picturesque waterfront backdrop. The adjacent play areas are perfect for keeping kids entertained, especially during summer months. Visitors can also enjoy stepping down to the estuary to dip their feet or indulge in delicious fish n chips from nearby restaurants like Bobby's.
The kids had the best time ever. Loved naming the animals and searching out each one. You can spend quite a bit of time searching and playing as an activity before you even get to the playpark next door. Suitable for various ages too. Different heights mean our 1 yo and 5 yo both had fun climbing and playing around the statues.

The lookout trail can be steep in places, but there are plenty of stairs and steps to make the hike easier. You can hike to the lookout in 30 or 40 minutes.
At the lookout, there are amazing 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside, beaches, and ocean.
It’s one of our favorite short hikes in New Zealand!

The Cider Factorie is a charming establishment located in a former avocado packing shed, offering stunning views of the inner harbor and Kaimai ranges. They are renowned for their award-winning ciders, including the distinctively New Zealand feijoa apple cider and the exquisite Reserve range crafted akin to top sparkling wines. The venue provides a variety of ciders at reasonable prices, making it an ideal spot to gather with friends.
This place is fantastic. The food was great. The staff were great. The view was lovely. We could not fault it. They had several big groups dining yet they still managed to get all our meals out on time. There cider was delicious too 😋 we will be back.

Tasty ciders, tasty food. Busy when we went Sunday, so book if you’re going on a weekend. Picturesque outlook.

My visit started out comfortably, but ended a little confusingly..
I emailed the Cider Factorie asking if they could do coeliac-friendly meals, and the response was a resounding YES! So far, so good.
On the day, I told the waitress I was coeliac, which was duly noted and she discussed the menu options with me. Still good.
Unfortunately, with 7 of us dining, the first two to get their meals had finished eating by the time the last meal came out. I thought that was a bit poor. Then we ordered desserts, mine being a GF special sundae. What turned up had to be sent back as it had a wafer sticking out of it. They got it right on the second attempt, but it did leave me feeling a bit off. The waiter (not the one we started with) didn't seem at all up to speed.
On the bright side, the food is absolutely delicious and averagely priced. The burger buns and fries in my meal were visibly quite different to what everyone else was served. The ciders are also good, mostly not being sickly sweet as so many NZ-made ciders tend to be.
I still recommend going there to dine, just be careful to check you get what you order if you have any dietary restrictions. It's a great environment, especially on a sunny day.
And make a booking - you very likely won't get a table if you're not booked.

A lovely location, friendly helpful staff, delicious, delicious drinks...Grab a paddle to sample their delights, order some food & enjoy or just go for the mojito cider, you won't regret it!

Nice selection of ciders and a beautiful view. Their opening times didn't match the ones posted so we thought we missed them one day and the day after we waited around for an hour before as we really wanted to visit them. Service could be better, we didn't feel particularly welcome when we arrived.
They allow dogs outside which was very nice.

Great experience, dropped in early and did a paddle tasting of 4 Ciders. 4 very different flavours. Bought some bottles at what I think was a very reasonable price. Def call again

The Cider Factorie has a variety of ciders and an excellent view to enjoy them from. The flight price is reasonable. It is an excellent place to spend some time catching up with friends. The ciders themselves were good for people new to cider or looking for something easy to drink. There wasn't much in the way of novel/uncommon ingredients when we tried our flight. That could be different during other seasons.
Navigating to the factorie was easy due to all of the helpful signs.

The tasting trays are great - I especially like you can choose your own mix of 4 ciders. The hop was my highlight! The food is good too. The view is pretty spectacular so definitely worth stopping in for lunch or for a tasting!

A little gem to find. Cider is refreshing different from your usual beer and wine. Food also great with pleasant atmosphere. If you're outside then the views are spectacular too.
A little of the beaten track but worth the visit.

We went there for some lunch and cider tasting. The cider was good but not special. Coming to the food. It arrived more than an hour after order !!! There was no one coming in the meantime asking or telling is anything about the delay. When it came it was disappointing. Some food came 15 min before the other and the last plate came even later. The quality was below bar food and to expensive for the quality and size ( served on small breakfast plates) . All in all a disappointing lunch experience.
Second visit: totally different experience. The dry ciders we had where fabulous. The burgers just great. Happy we came again and had a nice stay with great food. Thanks to the team.

The Cider Factorie is a must visit in Tauranga. Stunning water views, peaceful countryside feel, delicious cider with plenty of options and incredible food. Also bonus is Harper the welcoming comittee pooch onsite. Highly recommend. Great vegetarian options and plenty of things for non cider drinkers. Highly recommend the cauliflower share plate and the pork belly bao buns.

Great place for lunch. Really enjoyed our visit here. The tasting paddle was great and we could then choose which cider we wanted to enjoy with

Stopped in at the Cider Factorie on a whim during a bike ride. We had no reservation and were lucky to get a table on a sunny, busy afternoon. As always, great food, great service, great ciders.
Marshall's Animal Park, a 35-acre zoo located in Tauranga, offers visitors the chance to interact with farm animals like horses, goats, and rabbits. The park boasts a wide variety of animals that are well-taken care of and can be seen wandering around the premises. In addition to the animal exhibits, there are also picnic areas where families can enjoy their meals while taking in the sights and sounds of nature.
Go as fast or slow as you like around the small track past the paddocks. Plenty of farm animals to see and you are able to pat or feed some. Pony rides were available and a couple of good flying foxes. Value for money.

This is a lovely place to visit and enjoy the variety of animals there. Deer, sheep, alpacas, guinea pigs, peacocks, pheasants, Clydesdale horses, a couple of Texas longhorns, and even more. However, the one year old was most enamored by a maintenance vehicle!

Marshal Animal Park is a fantastic destination for families, especially those with children eager to learn about and interact with animals. The park provides a wonderfully engaging environment where kids can get up close with a variety of animals, adding both fun and educational value to every visit.
One of the highlights of Marshal Animal Park is the opportunity for children to feed the animals. This hands-on experience is not only exciting for the kids but also serves as a great educational tool, teaching them about the dietary habits of different species. The park conveniently offers feed for purchase, ensuring that all visitors can participate in this interactive activity without any hassle.
The park itself is well-maintained, with clear paths and signs making it easy to navigate through the different animal exhibits. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, always ready to share interesting facts about the animals and answer any questions. This commitment to education and visitor engagement truly sets Marshal Animal Park apart.
In addition to the interactive experiences, the park is equipped with essential amenities to ensure a comfortable visit for all. There are ample resting areas, clean facilities, and a snack bar to refuel after an exciting day of animal interactions.
Marshal Animal Park is highly recommended for anyone looking for a family-friendly outing that combines fun, education, and the chance to interact closely with animals. It's a place where childhood curiosity can be fostered, and memorable family moments are made.

We had a great time today at the park. Our daughter loved feeding the baby lambs, holding the guinea pigs, exploring the playground area and feeding all the other animals. We're grateful for how friendly the animals were and we enjoyed connecting with them, especially the horses, deer, and donkeys.
We highly recommend visiting.
Thank you for the special and memorable time for our family.

Great place to visit for families. Big farmland with large variety of animals including goats, sheep, deers, donkeys and alpacas. They were cute and friendly and our kids love patting and feeding them. There is an open area where the goats, chicken and turkeys freely roam and mingle with you. Well worth a visit with very reasonable admission price. It's also very close to the Mclaren's Falls Park where you could splash in the rock pools or hike along some beautiful tracks.

Finally borders were open and we could travel a bit further. Tauranga was chosen and this animal park seems quite interesting to visit. We just learned about few days ago and we thought it would be nice for our children to get in contact with some nature and animals. It seems like a little zoo in the middle of a splendid park. Quite a variety of animals, well maintained. Little pigs wondered around, little kids loved them. There are some picnic areas inside, it is so good to see many families enjoying some freedom after a period in lockdown.

Noticed this place on the map while we were checking out the nearby falls and thought I'd stop buy. It's cute, cheap and they let you take your car through. I loved feeding the deers, that was something I always wanted to do. My only complaint is that I feel really bad for the bunnies and what not in the small cages. Hopefully they get lots of love.

Came here with the kids. Absolutely loved it. It was my first time and there is so much to see! The kids ranging from 4 through to 14 enjoyed themselves.
There are seats at the start and also near the swings and flying foxes so you can stop for lunch.
Prices for entry were reasonable, leave some extra change for the feed. One bag per person for the kids and I think you can easily get away with one bag between two for the adults

Awesome animal park to take the kids to. It's located with the McLaren Falls Park, so make a day of it. Reasonably priced and the park is nicely spaced out. We'll maintained paths and you can feed most animals. The guinea pigs were a hit with the young ones, as you get to cuddle them. Bug spray is recommended

This is a great place to bring the kids. Their favourites were holding the Guinea pigs & seeing the red deer. Beautiful established trees & well maintained big farm to wander around. Short horse rides for $5 were a nice introduction for young kids. Bring a picnic, just watch out for the friendly goat trying to eat your lunch.

Minden Lookout is an attractive location that provides clear views of Tauranga and Mount Maunganui. The area features shaded tables for visitors to enjoy, as well as another vantage point nearby with superior views. However, the scenic spot has suffered from littering issues that threaten the natural beauty of the country. It is crucial for individuals to dispose of their trash properly and respect the environment to preserve its magnificence.

View breathtaking. Lovely place to just sit with a coffee and ponder on life. Even got 2 levels. I call them the looking level and sitting one. Would be amazing at night with city lights but I'm a bit wary at that time. By the evidence of all the broken glass I'd say it was a popular spot for young lads (and lasses) to meet up for a few drinks in the evening. Hence not 5 stars.

Minden Stairs is definitely not for the faint of heart 😲It sits 288m above sea level and has over 350 steps 😱
Located near Te Puna, the 1.5km loop walk follows a bush track that travels alongside a stream 🏞 through regenerating forest, dominated by rewarewa and manuka 🌲🌴🌳 trees and (apparently) opens up to a picnic area. I don't know, because I was dead before then 😐🥀 and had to turn around
There were some incredible views along the way 👀 and I can only imagine how spectacular the views would have been from the top ☺
If you travel further along on the same road, you'll find Minden Lookout that provides amazing views over The Bay of Plenty 🌊 and Mount Maunganui (without all the stairs) 😩

Beautiful place, you can see Tauranga and Mount Maunganui, there are tables, shadow, another point just up the road where you can see better the view, and I’ve just spent 1 hour of my spare time to take ALL YOUR RUBBISH on sides of the road and at the main point, this was disgusting and this country is beautiful, it needs to remain the same, so if your parents didn’t give you the right education, don’t bother coming back here as karma will get you one day 😉 by the way, there is a rubbish bin on site. Be kind, respect and look after each other! ❤️

The Lion & Tusk - Museum of the Rhodesian Services Association
The Lion and Tusk is a museum dedicated to the Rhodesian Services Association, which served in the Malvinas/Falklands War. It is located in at least 300 miles from any battlefields or war memorials, making it a unique museum experience. The museum contains a large collection of memorabilia from the war, including medals that were stolen and later recovered. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful, and payment details are clear. The medals arrived quickly and in perfect condition.
As a former member of the Rhodesian Ministry of Internal Affairs, INTAF, I ordered from the Rhodesian Services Association the new embroidered unit badge to sew on the blazer I wear to remembrance events here in the UK. I was able to pay for the badge in the UK, and it was sent by Air Mail from New Zealand.
When I received the badge, I was amazed at the exquisite quality and richness of colour. I had a choice of colour for the backing, which was matched perfectly.
A highly professionally manufactured badge that makes me extremely proud to wear.

I had excellent customer service when I ordered the Lion & Tusk Museum's 2024 calendar. I hope to visit this museum when I travel to New Zealand within the next few years.

I needed an embroidered wire badge to wear on my blazer pocket for attending military events here in the USA as I wanted to represent my former army unit, the Rhodesian Light Infantry (RLI). I ordered one from the Rhodesian Services Association and the ordering, payment, and shipping from the other side of the world went without any problems, and I received the badge within a few weeks of the order. Like others that have provided feedback, I was absolutely delighted to find that the badge was of an exceptionally high quality and color, which is a breath of fresh air in this day and age! I hope one day to visit the museum and personally thank Hugh and all involved with the Lion and Tusk :) Thanks again.

My medals having been stolen I took a chance and asked The Lion and Tusk if they could be replicated, and was pleasantly surprised by a prompt reply in the affirmative. A most detailed quote was provided. Upon confirming my order I was again very pleased to see that identification and proof of service was required, which took some finding! Glad to see that only genuine applicants would be able to obtain replicas. Hugh is very helpful, payment details were clear and the medals arrived in a very short time, exactly as quoted. Thanks Hugh, your service is exceptional. I am looking forward to being able to travel internationally once more and will most certainly have the Lion and Tusk on the itinerary. Derek Young

I only recently discovered that I qualified for a Rhodesia General Services medal, so contacted the Rhodesian Army Association & Museum Trust in the UK, who gave me Hugh's contact details, as I now live in Australia. That was less than 6 weeks ago from start to finish of the whole process, and I am now the proud owner of an expertly-made solid silver medal supplied through The Lion & Tusk online store. The service has been fantastic, and very quick, and the mail tracking was easy, and I highly recommend the Museum to anyone who is after Rhodesia memorabilia. I will certainly be visiting the museum when I eventually "cross the ditch".

Being in the UK I have only been able to 'visit' the Lion on Tusk on their Facebook page. From a display perspective, the Museum provides a real, hands-on, insight into our war, and should prove very interesting to veterans and Military enthusiasts alike.
The good folks there are also doing a fantastic job preserving Rhodesian history in a time when it's not always popular due to the inaccurate and maliciously untruthful information often found online. They are educating future generations on the real history of that land.
Go and visit if you can..... if you can't, visit it online!

We visited at the end of Jan this year. The museum is an excellent display of the history of the Rhodesian armed forces with an incredible number of items extremely well displayed. Hugh was our host and we had a informative time with his wide ranging knowledge of all the displays.
This museum is well worth the visit and not to be missed.
The best part for me was meeting Hugh face to face, we hadn’t seen each other since we demobbed in 1978, and we had a long walk down memory lane talking of Intake 152 and all our mates.

I appreciate the time spent with Hugh and Tony. They provided very precious information on Rhodesian politics and history. The museum has got a variety of valuable exhibits that would spot some light on the conflict in Rhodesia. They also sell some goodies that would substantially help with museum's expenses.

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Lion and Tusk and I would highly recommend it to those interested in history. The exhibits were very well maintained and the collection boasts a comprehensive array of artifacts from a nation lost to the world.
The staff were very welcoming and were pleased to answer any questions my Gran and I had for them about the history of Rhodesia. If you have a particular interest in military history, I would highly recommend you visit this museum on your next trip to the Mount. Whether you have heard of Rhodesia or not, there is plenty to learn and much to see at this attraction. Many of the exhibits tell personal stories of soldiers and civilians from Rhodesia and offer some insight into the hardships they endured due to the Communist insurgency. For this reason, the collection is valuable as a fascinating window into a way of life that is hard for those of us without a connection to Rhodesia to imagine.
As is customary for a museum, there is a gift shop with quite an array of tasteful offerings. I can personally recommend the history book on the Rhodesia Regiment which was put together by a number of authors including those involved with the museum. This book is a treasure of a reference and like everything else at the museum, the result of a lot of hard work and dedication. I was surprised to hear from the volunteers in the office, that when they did not have one of their nice green poloshirts with the Rhodesian lion on it in my size, that they could simply take my measure and have one made across the street and delivered to me. It is great to see this museum working with many local and small Kiwi businesses. They also offer some items in the iconic Rhodesian bushstroke camouflage which will no doubt interest military history buffs.
All in all, this place was well worth the visit and the long drive and I could have happily spent hours in the library alone. Do take the time to speak to the volunteers and buy a few gifts to help preserve what is one of very few Rhodesian collections remaining and definitely the best.

I have not had the privilege of visiting the Lion & Tusk Museum other than on Facebook and virtual displays. However, the museum represents and displays a vital aspect of the former Rhodesian community. Keeping our heritage is an essential part of history and every effort should be made to support and preserve the museum. The museum provides a vital link to former Rhodesian Servicemen that are dispersed across the globe. Thank you for all your extremely hard work

Took my 2 young nieces along during the school holidays. They loved the different styles of art on display and it sparked some great conversations about the works. Had a lovely time.

Great Experience for old and young. We had a Art Gallery Homeschool class there from Rita Angus how to draw a Portrait and I can just highly recommend it, the Lady was so lovely with all of the Kids. Many thanks for organising things like that for our Community 💚

Great exhibition, staff could have been more proactive at both introducing the exhibition and asking for donations. We had a brilliant time and enjoyed everything going on in the building.

Not much of an arty person myself, but we had visitors with us that day and thought we'd have a noisy. We all really enjoyed it.
It's worth a look even if art isn't your thing.

Beautiful experience in gallery space right in the heart of downtown with interesting exhibitions of four Newzelanders artists: Rita Angus, Hiria Anderson- Mita, Ron Te Kawa and Dream Girls Art Collective that have transformed the Gallery's atrium in a psychedelic world dominated by tree very big murals. Friendly staff and great presentation of artwork.

I had such a nice time at the Tauranga Art Gallery. The staff were all so nice and Samm was very helpful in giving me the inside scoop of things to do around Tauranga and the Mount. I loved the exhibitions and found them to be a very interesting look at NZ art and culture.
10/10 would recommend.

This is a very modern art gallery with changing expositions. It's free and has a little shop area included.
The lavatory was neat and clean.

Really great free attraction with the area! The Terminus Exhibit was on while I was in town. It was a really interesting virtual reality gallery. I think kids would love it as well. I highly recommend!

Loved it! This exhibit was so whimsical. Photos don't even do it justice. Wanted to see it a second time, but there was a new exhibit. Entry by koha.

Oh, what a delightful little escapade I had at this art gallery! It was a carnival of colors and creativity that sent shivers down my spine. The Joker's Gallery of Grins, as I like to call it, is unlike anything you've ever seen before. I assure you, it's far from your typical snooze-fest museum!
As I stepped through the entrance, I was greeted with chaos and madness that even I couldn't resist. The way the paintings seemed to mock the traditional norms of art was simply marvelous! You won't find any pretentious landscapes or saccharine portraits here – only a riot of imagination!
And the artists, oh my! They must be a bunch of lunatics like me, because their masterpieces exuded a kind of madness that I wholeheartedly appreciate. The brush strokes danced like maniacal laughter across the canvas, and the colors clashed like a symphony of chaos. I could almost hear the canvas scream in joyous agony!
The curation was just as brilliant as the artwork itself. Each room seemed to play a part in a grand theatrical performance, and the transitions between them were as unpredictable as my own plans for Gotham City. The Joker would be proud!
To top it all off, the staff were dressed to kill (not literally, of course, I do that part myself!). Their snappy and mischievous demeanor added an extra layer of charm to the experience. They truly embodied the spirit of the Joker's Gallery of Grins.
So, if you're tired of mundane art and crave an adventure that will make your heart race faster than a ticking bomb, this gallery is the place for you! If you're lucky, you might even catch a glimpse of the elusive Joker himself. And trust me, a night spent at this gallery will leave you with a smile you won't ever forget. Ha-ha-ha-ha!
Remember, dear readers, "Why so serious?" Embrace the madness and let your inner Joker revel in the twisted beauty of this gallery. Bravo!
