The Central Deborah Gold Mine is a historical tourist attraction in Bendigo, Victoria, offering a subterranean tour of the mine and gold panning activity. The mine operated between 1939 and 1954, making it one of the last commercial mines to cease operation on the Bendigo goldfields. Over 700,000kg of gold was discovered in the area during this time making it the 7th largest gold producer in the world.
Its an amazing tour to see and understand about mining in the early 1800s. The guide is very knowledgeable and the tour is very interesting. We went 61m underground and walked through the area. Best thing is that they encouraged everyone yo take as many photos as we want and post them! Absolutely worth it!

I dropped in when I saw the sign. Parking was easy. The ticket lady let me know that there was two types of tours. One was the below ground tour of the actual mine. And the other was a self tour of everything at ground level. There was a charge for the below tour but the self tour was free. It took me about 1 hour 30 minutes for free tour. I just loved it. I will be back for the below tour when I have more time…

Did the Deborah Central Goldmine tour on 28/11/23. Mainly because of my name. Lol.
Maddy did a fantastic job as tour guide answering all questions, making it entertaining and very real.
I learned so much. Felt quite emotional seeing the miner’s change area with all the jackets and cardigans still on the hooks above ground.
Was surprisingly wet underground but nice and cool. I could see my breath 😳
Women in the gift shop/café were exceptionally kind and helpful. 10/10 to all.

Excellent underground gold mine tour with fantastic guide who was truly knowledgeable. Exciting ride down in the lift. You get to wear helmets with lamps to light the way provided. Be sure to wear flat enclosed footwear and dress relatively warmly. No toilets down there, so go before you go. Tram goes right to the front door. This was my second time, having done the tour 6 years ago. This time was just as much fun, and my kids got to enjoy it this time. Plenty to explore and activities like gold panning above ground included. Allow 2 to 3 hours to do everything. Well worth the money spent.

We went on the mine tour and went underground. Never been in a mine before and loved it. Our guide was informative. We roamed on the surface in the old buildings and machinery. Well worth a visit into Bendigo’s history.

My mates and I had a good experience here, you can enter for free and have a look around and enter the museum.
There is a fun activity, you can swift the sand to find small semiprecious stones in it, it's a fun activity for kids and adults.
If you want to have the mine tour with a tour guide, you need to purchase a ticket which is approx $30-40 pp,
There are lots of parking spaces.

Well worth the reasonable entry fee. Interesting above ground display and museum.
The underground tour is something to really enjoy. Our guide , Bazz, was friendly helpful and informative.
The tour is about 75 minutes. Accessibility for those with a mobility issue is quite good, although naturally the path is a little uneven in parts with small puddles and old rail tracks which have been covered reasonably well. Highly recommend this as a different experience.

This place was just an awesome experience, one of my top places to visit of all time !
Above ground having a huge display with so much to see and learn about the working and process of ore to extract gold. There is a huge amount of old hysterical machinery on display.
We then ventured underground on a mine tour ..an experience I will never forget . The guys that took us down were so informative, and explaining so much in detail.
Although we went so deep underground I felt safe at all times.
I have never experienced being so deep underground, let alone an actual gold mine ...this is just something you have to experience for yourself.

We did the 1h tour and it was extremely interesting and enjoyable. Zoe was really knowledgeable and explained how was working in the mine back in the days. She also showed us how to spot gold among other minerals. Highly recommended. I wish we did the 3.5h tour!

What an absolute fascinating part of Australian history.
Highly recommend both walking around the surface and doing the underground tour.
Knowledgeable tour guides and lots to learn and see on your own.
I would recommend it and I would go back if I was in town again
Lots of photo opportunities as well

Amazing tour! There are two tours: above surface and underground tour. Both were fun and informative. Make sure you book tickets in advance for underground tours, and put on enclosed shoes for your tour. The underground tour is 75 minutes long and its definitely worth your time. Also, you can host parties underground--what an interesting fact!
The hop on-hop off tram takes you right at the entranceof the mine, there is also a bus stop 2 minutes away, and this place is a 18-minute walk from the Bendigo station. There is a variety of souvenirs you can buy such as cool fridge magnets, beanie, gold nuggets, gold jewellery, hoodie, gems, postcard, coin purse, and so on. You can also buy hot food, ice-cream cones, cold drinks here.
The staff is extremely helpful, friendly, and welcoming. Loved the overall experience here. Awesome and one-of-a-kind it is!

Taken 75 minutes Tour.
Ticket : $35 per Adult.
Expensive, price should be less.
It’s just 10-15 minutes under ground walk , but they took 75 min to explain the history of Gold Mine.
We booked in Advance.

Excellent. The above ground is free to view and had a lot of things to see. The gold mine underground tour was excellent and the tour guide was very good and talked abut interesting things. The tour is $35 for an adult ticket but well worth it, is lasted over an hour.

Central Deborah Gold Mine tour was quite interesting. The tour guide, Sarah Jane (SJ), gave a very good explanation about the process of gold mining, how 929kg gold was extracted, and how the widow maker got its name.
Wearing helmets and going down 183ft below ground and walking in the mining cave was a thrilled experience.
Would recommend this to anyone who is new to Australia.

Fantastic place to absorb some information about gold mining. Work and life in the days of mining.

A very unique, educational and special experience everyone would love to try!
We had an extremely passionate guide name Nathan, which was not only knowledgeable about an impressive number of things but also very emotionally intelligent.
He shared a lot of fun facts as much as personal life lessons that will stick with me for a long time.
Wonderful to see such tender people loving their job !
Definitely recommend!
The Bendigo Art Gallery is a regional art museum that has exhibits from all over the world, with an events calendar year-round. It was founded in 1853 and is one of the oldest museums in Australia.
Loved the Elvis exhibition. Well presented. Very organised on arrival, very busy. Parking a bit busy as a football match was on at Queen Elizabeth oval. Allow time to find a park.
Can't wait to see what they have next. We drove from Melbourne and stayed local, would definitely recommend.

This was an amazing small gallery! It was so spacious and well planned. Above all of that it was free too. There was a Chinese exhibition that was stunning and 2 rooms full of first place local artists paintings to view. It's always lovely being able to see art so up close and seeing the way art is heading is very interesting.
If your travelling through just like myself I would totally recommend a stop here!

What a great depiction of “La Belle Epoque” that the gallery has created. Many fascinating art works, posters, clothing and music. Lots to see in pleasant surroundings.

look at this, definitely the piece of art standing right in front of me.
somehow they look minimalist but not at the same time. this visit just for a day, so we sort of run out of time. don’t get a chance to pay a visit. next time, next time we will give it a go. wanna see how’s the inside look like. also the garden next to it are so cute and pretty.

Wonderful gallery. We spent a morning perusing Australian landscapes, a collection of Chinese art, and impressive artifacts from the Golden Dragon Museum, which had a bit more room to breathe here in several dedicated halls vs their normal home. No need to buy tickets in advance because entry is also free!

LOVELY ART GALLERY WITH GREAT GIFT SHOP!
I took the free tour and the art is varied and the visiting exhibitions were good. I loved the zoetrope!
The gift shop was worth the visit, with an amazing array of goodies.

One of the best art galleries we have ever visited. Smallish, compact, not overwhelming for anyone you may take who is not into art as much as you! Very very beautiful inside. Gorgeous. Top cafe, garden area and gift shop. A must stop in Bendigo. We loved this town very much. Can also climb up the viewing tower outside from the cafe (charming staff, yum food, we had salmon bagels) and get views right around Bendigo. We both felt happiness after our visit. P. S. Easy to get around, for prams and wheelchairs, flat and very spacious rooms. Excellent.

Bendigo Art Gallery never disappoints me. Enjoyed Australiana Designing a Nation. Very interesting, beautiful pieces. Australian Women's Weekly exhibition was also on, which was extensive with very interesting reading.

Wonderful free art gallery that is highly worth while making time for when visiting Bendigo.
They currently have an exhibition to celebrate 90 Years of Women's Weekly. Don't dismiss it as I did at first! It contains some stunning photographs, outfits and inspired staging.
The rest of the galleries don't disappoint either.
Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Clean and tidy throughout.

Visited there today to see the Australian Women's Weekly 90 yr exhibition. It was a free exhibition. I did not enjoy it as much as I thought I would. It wasn't a great exhibition. Apart from magazine covers through the years and 6 dresses and a couple of videos, there is not much more I can say. Surely the Women's Weekly could have exhibited much more than what was on display. It was a bit boring.
Mary Mezzee — Google review
Great experience in the gallery and cafe.
The gallery was great with a real mix of contemporary and historical art which we loved.
For free entry we couldn't complain! Great way to spend an hour or two on a rainy day. Really interesting display. Everyone got something out of it, even the kids. There could perhaps be some colouring-in stations/art appreciation worksheets or something for kids.
The cafe was great and the grounds were lovely, even in the rain. Perhaps put puppachino in a seperate category for pets so people don't order it for their kids, or put some explanation so people know what it is, as we had a mix-up there.
Highly recommend for a visit.

Bendigo Art Gallery has been an all time favourite from Elvis, Marimekko, Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly, The Windsor’s, Mary Quant, Women’s Weekly and Edith Head. Their exhibitions are always fun, a little left if centre for Bendigo and never ever disappoint. If you get the chance just go go go ☝️👏

The gallery was a Lovely experience. Free, in a pretty central location near the heart of Bendigo , and they had a pretty diverse collection, especially considering it is a regional gallery and not a state or Commonwealth facility.
I saw it all in under an hour, though I rushed myself somewhat. You could comfortably see everything in around two hours.

If you are looking for some great Australian art, you will find it here at the Bendigo Art Gallery.
This would have to be one of regional Victoria's best galleries!
We came here for the Australian Women's Weekly exhibition. While somewhat interesting, that exhibition was very much underwhelming. Just not enough content to satisfy.
However, the gallery remained worth the visit as the area housing traditional Australian art has recently been refurbished.
These rooms are absolutely stunning! The curators have done a very good job of presenting the art works in traditional gallery style.
So, while the Women's Weekly exhibition was not quite the 'blockbuster' I had hoped for, we will visit this gallery once again when next in Bendigo.
Here are some photos of the Australian Women's Weekly exhibition and the wonderful rooms of more traditional art at the gallery.
The Golden Dragon Museum in Bendigo is a living history museum of the Chinese people of Bendigo from the goldrush period to present day. It features displays of historic Chinese artifacts, as well as educational experiences for all ages.

Very nice to visit the lovely gardens, the goldfish are enormous. Some areas of the garden are fenced off possibly for repair or upgrade. We turned up while they were setting up for the harvest moon festival. Kids enjoyed sitting and watching the goldfish swim up to them. Will have to come back once fully opened up. Good place to bring a young family.

Overall rating: 3.5/5
Atmosphere:
The place is definitely worth to visit; It educates people about Chinese/Asian occupation early years in Victoria.
The Chinese garden was captivating.
Accessibility:
Easy to navigate. I didn’t worry about finding a car park.
The place is just a walking distance from Rosalind Park.
Price: $16 entry for adults and I think kids below certain age are free.

This was a pleasant place to visit on a day we hadn't planned to! The history and toes Bendigo has with Chinese people was lovely to learn about. And the Dragons with their historical photos were amazing to see. My son also loved the drawers of ancient coins.
There isn't anything interactive, and certainly some fragile pieces on display so probably wouldn't recommend young kids if you want to avoid stressing out! The gardens are undergoing restoration which will be good for an upgrade.

I was blown away by the find. Who would have thought there's a Chinese museum in a regional town. It was really an interesting experience and I was amazed by the collections. No wait on a Sunday. The restaurant next door is worth a try.

We visited the place as a family on a weekday. The family ticket was about $40. During school holidays, a guide will provide a free 5-10 min introduction. It was interesting to learn about Chinese history in Bendigo and their contribution to the local community. The museum collection is also unique. There is a small pond with fishes in the museum garden, which is just outside the museum. The garden area was being renovated when we visited. Car parking is a challenge as the museum is in Bendigo city centre. Free parking may be available in nearby streets and some paid parking options are also available. Thanks.

Amazing afternoon, lots of action and colour.
More big screens for the size of the crowds would be food.
Also the seats for the important people LOL, took up way to much space.
We are all one community, there shouldn't be segregated spaces

Small area but great if you want to know more about the history of Chinese diggers and migrants. As much as I find it interesting, young children may find it boring. The small Chinese garden outside is beautiful too. Note: due to shortage of stuff, the museum may close early, so it's better to be there early than late!

Loved this place more than I thought!! I don’t know what the reviewers are saying about this place being small when it’s quite a decent size but also JAM PACKED full of really interesting items that had great displays and descriptions so you could follow along well. Now it does say no photos are to be taken in the museum but you can in the gardens. My advice would be to really take your time in looking at the pieces, read a few descriptions, check out the Loong gallery area that’s part of the building and you’ll have a great time. I’d say the $16 ticket was just worth it as it exceeded my expectations

A fascinating extremely well displayed museum. The mixture of 18th century to modern day history was really cool. The staff was excellent, incredibly friendly and helpful. Price was exceptional for everything included. The walk through the gardens was especially enjoyable just to watch the koi swimming around. The gift shop as well was reasonably priced.

September 2012 We drove for about 2 hrs and spent about 2hrs. The place is so chanting and magical every statute, artefacts, art tells the story how the people live in olden days. The front lotus flower is so cool. We loved taking the photos. My dad is no longer alive would love his pictures to be shown to the world. Hope you be able to see how passionate my father was towards history and nature. If you in Victoria this is the must place to go.
Lake Weeroona is a beautiful spot in Bendigo and was once a mine. It's surrounded by shady parkland and has facilities for barbeques, which makes it a great place to spend a day out with the family. The lake is popular for school kayaking races and events, which are well run.
Spent a few very pleasant hours at Lake Weeroona and it's surrounding park, circumnavigating it and enjoying the peaceful surrounds on an easy, level, bitumen walking/cycling path.
Dozens of places to stop and enjoy the views across the lake, lots of benches sprinkled around the lake, with plenty of shady trees for protection from the sun.
Benches and picnic tables, drinking fountains for people and dogs, Doggy Doo disposal bags are sprinkled all around the park.
Toilets, free BBQ facilities, car parking, extensive children's playground, occasional food trucks and coffee carts are all located along the Eastern side of the park.

The Great Stupa of Universal Compassion is a large, earthen Buddhist temple in Bendigo, Australia. The structure is meant to last for 1,000 years and is modeled after the Gyantse Stupa in Tibet.
A sanctuary for Buddhists & a great exposure to the way of the Buddhist culture & philosophy for non Buddhists.
I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to The Stupa. This was my second visit & the Stupa looks superb with the completion of the crown (top) since my last visit.

Miraculously we found them all! The toast was great too! I love the exquisite items at the shop, took me a while to finally decide, thanks to the helpful explanation of Skye and Adam. Really inspiring to see the prayers embedded outside the temple.
Cafe is also fantastic. The ambiance and the silence when having your coffee right outside the the cafe, overlooking the temple is just incomparable.
The only improvement I can say is I hope the renovations in the temple gets finished soon as it takes away the authenticity and the mood inside.

Such a peaceful place. Relax, reflect, appreciate. The peace gardens are lovely with interesting sculptures from many religions. The temple itself stands majestically on the top of a hill. It is filled with Buddha's, relics, traditional and meaningful decorations. There is lots of information available for a self tour or a guided tour. There's a lot of work still to be done - plans are to paint the walls inside, to paint the still white Buddha's, and they're in the process of painting a ceiling mandala.
There's a cafe with snacks and small meals available, as well as a shop for souvenirs etc.
Staff were all very lovely- friendly and helpful.
Entry by donation and your dog can come to.
Next door at the Atisha Centre, they do meditation, retreats and Buddhist courses.
Well worth visiting.
Rosalind Park occupies a significant location in Bendigo, and has been the site of public gatherings for centuries. The park includes large open spaces with well-maintained gardens, as well as playgrounds, an historic conservatory, and historical monuments.
Beautiful gardens with some elegant statues, water fountains and historical buildings. A few Christmas decorations scattered about at the time we visited including a huge Christmas tree. Limited shade throughout most of the park, but great for short runs or taking the dog for a walk. Connects onto the adjacent gardens and the Conservatory too, and is quite close to Bendigo city centre.

Absolutely beautiful park in the centre of town with many grand old trees and gorgeous gardens. Immaculately maintained, a credit to the city. Be sure to visit the lovely old conservatory. And be warned - avoid lingering too long under the resident colony of fruit bats.

Rosalind Park has to be one of the major jewels in the crown of Bendigo no matter what the season. An early morning walk around the park recharges the batteries as you stroll past some of the many features such as the Cascades waterfall and fountain, the Poppet Head lookout tower, the rotunda and fernery. It is also worth noting that some of the many trees in the park date back to the 1800’s. One of the paths will take you alongside the Bendigo creek. The leaves on the trees here in Autumn become a wash with colourful, vibrant and bright hues. If you want your spirits lifted and your senses elevated, I highly recommend a visit.

Beautiful, calm, and quiet place for a family day out. Just go for a few hours or spend a full day, you won't get bored. Well maintained garden, however, you'll still feel the nature. We heard the bats and saw them hanging on the trees. We also saw a few lorikeet families on the tree hollows. Nice playground for little ones and long walking trails for the big ones.
There are public toilets and plenty of food options nearby. So find a sunny day and take your picnic mat with some 💰 That's all you'll need for a healthy and happy 😊 day. Highly recommended.

Amazing park...a must go when in Bendigo. Very cool on a hot day with lots of shade and benches to sit. The tower look out is excellent. If you have trouble walking I'd advise parking up near it and the hills are quite steep if you walk through the park to it

Rossi Park is always nice to visit. It's fairly clean and has some of the best views looking over the city from the poppet head at the top of the gardens. If you can get up the hill!!
Down closer to the city, there's always something in the Conservatory Gardens to see, and you can't miss the bats that have made it their home, too.

A really nice park with cool scenic walk ways.
While walking through, you should defs check out the art gallery, the observation tower you can walk up to see a wonderful view the whole 360° view of Bendigo and a brisk walk to the Golden Dragon Museum on the east side.
Tho the bridge that goes over the Bendigo creek had a nasty smell of toilet sewage that lingered while walking over the bridge which was unpleasant.

Rosalind Park is a wonderful place to enjoy when visiting Bendigo.
The park is well maintained. When we visited, the tulips were just starting to emerge from the ground.
This central venue hosts a number of prominent statues and monuments, along with a war memorial. The park is just across the road from the Shamrock Hotel and the always impressive Alexandra Fountain.
The photos here will provide an idea of what you can see and do.
When in Bendigo, visit the Information Centre (in the Town Hall next to the park), then walk around this impressive public space.
You won't be disappointed!

The depot and workshop tour is conveniently located next door to the attraction, and features tours of the tram fleet that travel along some of Bendigo's most iconic streets.

I recommend buying tickets in advance, on the website. But you can also by them on the tram. This is a fun, family friendly way to travel across Bendigo. They provide lots of interesting facts about the history of the town.

Whilst we were in Bendigo with my Mum for the Elvis exhibition we were able to score tickets to the Shake Rattle and Roll Tram. Talk about a great way to spend an hour and a half in Bendigo as the sun went down!!!
The ticket included an Elvis themed cocktail on arrival and a tram ride around Bendigo with Elvis’ music creating the soundtrack. We had so much fun we did not want it to end!
The staff were fun, attentive and made the experience well worth it.
Would recommend this even if you are not an Elvis fan but note that it’s only running during the exhibition and most nights are selling out fast!!

A fantastic activity for the whole family. You buy an all day ticket for a very reasonable price. You can hop on and off the tram at the 5-6 different stops throughout Bendigo CBD.
The first stop was a little challenging to find at first, but there's plenty of free parking at the starting stops (stop 1 & 6).
There is an audio that plays throughout the ride about the history of Bendigo that is very informative.
My children (aged 2-10) all loved the trip and so did my husband and I.
We had a pram and nappy bag with us and were able to fold it away and store is neatly next to us on the tram.
There is also a tram timetable online so you can plan your arrival at the first stop (tram was very punctual). You can either pre-order tickets online, QR code/pay at each stop or directly pay the tram conductor.
A very enjoyable family adventure!

The conductors/drivers are passionate about what they do. I regularly visit Bendigo and use the Trams every time. Out of all my visits I haven't been disappointed.

We picked a beautiful day to try out the Tram Depot Cafe. It is set out with lots of options for seating. Our coffee was served hot how we requested and the savoury scone we shared was beautiful. My only comment would be that the coffees need to be a priority getting out. I saw one gent ask for refund after waiting too long.

Free maps available and brochures of a range of places. I didn't see any particularly local ones but asked the staff about what to do on a rainy day with kids and a lady was happy to help. She told us a little about a couple of places I was interested in from Google maps like there being big windows to look out to the park from at the cafe in the art gallery on a rainy day. She told me some things I already knew but also mentioned that the War Memorial is currently closed which was helpful.
Customer service was decent.
There were a couple of displays to look at but weren't particularly interesting according to the family so I didn't bother looking too far. A highlight was the external view of the building. I would've liked to see more gold rush history here to show the kids.
The gift shop had a few interesting bits and pieces from candles to cute linen purses to Bendigo peanut brittle and chocolates.

Pottery is a must visit in Bendigo!!

You must purchase a few items as a keep sake.

What a amazing place, where history meets today.
The disused pottery kilns mixed with the collection of pottery is well thought out.
The collectables section is also interesting.

Bendigo Pottery is a must see if you are interested in the history of Victoria.
To say its astonishing is an understatement. I was introduced to their wares many years ago, but to see where they were made is a different thing altogether.
But the great aspect is, its a living museum, as Bendigo Pottery still is in operation - but not using the old kilns.
A bonus is the antique shop, where there are over 40 market stalls with gorgeous antiques.
On top of that is a cafe as well, with fair prices.
Access is easy, and wheelchair friendly.
Parking limited.

My family visited this beautiful pottery that had a lot of things to see and learn about. There was live viewing of how the objects are made out of clay in the wheel which was really nice for the kids too see and learn about. There was an antique shop there too which was interesting to look at as the objects were quite intriguing. Staff were so helpful and charming.

Lots of history and local charm. Went on a cold & wet weekend, but it didn't spoil the experience. Easy self guided tour where you can see the original kilns and way the pottery worked, in days gone by and a lovely large undercover shop featuring an assortment of ceramic pieces made on premises. Great for self or as gifts. There is a cafe on site, ample parking, opportunities to do workshops if you have time and some other local artisan shops on site. Not far from central Bendigo. Do yourself a favour & make time to visit. Enjoy.

There is glass blowing / miniature glass toy making - live. The lady does this makes wonderful glass toys. And some of them are for sale - 12 AUD and further. Lovely.
And there are sculptures (metal) also for sale. And then the pottery exhibition- too good - jugs , oil dispensers , cups, and many other items. We can purchase a bock of clay to play for $5 and use the tools at the table to make something and take home. There are take home tool kits for $23.5 and souvenirs to collect.

My parents visited here about 20 years ago and have never stopped bragging about the place, so the moment we were relocated to VIC for work, this was the first place on our bucket list for visiting. We certainly were not let down. This place is incredible. The rich history, the beautiful old kilns, the wonderful craftsmanship of the pottery and local art work is amazing. The two ladies at the front were really friendly and had a good chat to us. It’s lovely to have some gold old fashioned customer service where the ladies can strike up a conversation other than selling something. Of course we did but something …how could we not. The pottery is gorgeous. I’m coming back for the bread pot 😉 when Hubbys not with me lol.

Never knew about this place and a local from a cafe mentioned it to me and I’m glad she did. It’s a great place! The pottery is amazing and it was so beautiful to be able to walk around the old kilns that once worked. There is also a little cafe and other little artist studios that you can visit when they are open. Really sweet place to visit just a 9mins drive out of Bendigo. Well worth it.
Severine Josey — Google review
Worth a visit if you've never been.
Large selection of overpriced pottery which I would not describe as outstanding in any way compared to other artisan pottery.
The other half of the warehouse is filled with opshop quality "antiques" priced to suit those who don't know any better.
There is a cafe on the premises but was closed on our visit, so I can't say much about their wares.
There are a few artisan shops on the premises, sculptures, jewellery, clothing, soaps...etc.
As I said, worth a visit if you've never been.

What I loved about this place was the huge number of stalls of quirky vintage and antique goods next to the pottery.
Very reasonably priced and hundreds of thousands of items to look at or buy.
What I didn’t love was that the place is closed on TUESDAYS so I went on a Wednesday only to find that some areas of the premises are closed on the Wednesday.
But that huge area of wares needs 1-2 hours to scour properly. Absolutely blown away.

Had a class booked, made a vase and bowl, lots of fun worth doing.
You pay for the class and then you can choose to keep the artwork and have it painted from a selection of colours for an additional $10 for each piece. Something to consider if you are going with your family and you have multiple items you might want to keep, budget in another $100 on the day.
Would recommend.

A public garden with beautiful flowers and a nice big playground for the kids.
It's got a lake/watering hole for the animals that live there.
The extension gives us a cafe and an ampitheatre.
Lots of lovely green grass and trees to give shade.
Bbq amenities and tables and chairs.
Entry to white hills swimming pool is just inside one of the multiple gates you can use to enter.
We've attended a wedding here, picnics, birthdays and it's also a good place to play Pokemon go.
Dogs are welcome while on leads as long as you pick up after them.
Lots of concrete and gravel stone like paths so wheelchair and pram access is not a problem at all.
Plenty of car parking around the gardens, not too many parking spaces inside the gate, but it's not really needed with how close the other car parks are.

Just okay! Went for high tea and tour.
Some constructive critiques:
- Tour went for a long time and high tea did not. We were given very little warning that we were leaving for the tour so we had to leave most of our food 😬
- Scones were not cooked properly which was not ideal but they were eventually replaced.
- Drink service was fairly slow, considering the price per person, a bottle of sparkling could be on bigger tables for top ups.
- Venue not at all accessible and considering the upgrades made they could have one accessible entrance that services the high tea area. Its worth noting that the tour is not good for those that are disabled, elderly or pregnant and can't climb stairs. Also hard to keep up with guide regardless in large groups. Maybe a smaller tour for those people only on ground floor could work while others go upstairs?
- Toilets inaccessible during tour, not great after drinking sparkling! This could have been communicated prior to leaving high tea rooms, as there was one toilet on the outside but we also didn't know this at the time.
- High tea didn't include all options on menu (one savoury was missing) and as a lunch high tea I think this would have been a better balance. This missing item could have been replaced with a savoury alternative.

We had High Tea and a tour of the villa and grounds by the actual owner. The High Tea was beautifully presented and delicious along with the champagne. The tour of the villa was comprehensive and the owner, Paul was very informative and friendly. The property has been meticulously restored and is beautiful. A credit to Paul Banks.

Absolutely beautiful restoration of this divine mansion. I cannot recommend more highly the High Tea and tour. The food, quality of champagne, wine, teas and coffee are excellent. The staff are efficient but friendly and attentive. Paul Banks, the owner, conducts the tour with wit and humour, as well as imparting interesting facts and the history of Fortuna. The original owner, George Lansell, had very good taste, which is evident in the design of this home. The gardens and mature trees which frame the house, are magnificent. The restoration revealed some hidden elements, such as the Roman Baths and tunnels. Some later alterations and additions by the Army, (when Fortuna was the base for Survey and Maps divisions), concealed original features. Underneath, these remained largely intact. Due to Paul's persistence, commitment and vision, Fortuna is once again a Grand Old Victorian Lady. Wear comfy shoes as there's some walking involved, but it's worth it.
A 5 star hotel based at Fortuna will be open to the public in 2021.

Went for high tea, food, decor and service was excellent except after one glass of wine our glasses were taken away while others had more wine, beer or a cuppa?? Very impressed with all the renovations (didn't like the glass framed showers). Being an immediate neighbour (over the back fence) I have toured before when the army invited us all for a tour and supper. Enjoyed the day with guest from Melbourne. Not sure when construction of stage 1 houses will start but there will be none behind me. Booth St needs a little attention where the edge of road needs repair and witches hats removed. The end lol.

Fantastic venue for a special family birthday. We all enjoyed the food, the tour and the magnificent restoration. Just a bit of - hopefully helpful - feedback.
The High Tea started at 2 pm and we were all enjoying a drink and working our way through the local delicacies when we were suddenly told we would be leaving the room in 5 minutes and would not be allowed back in - that was around 3 pm. Strange! We sought clarification and it was confirmed - there was a lot of food left and the birthday cake had only just been brought out. Luckily Mrs Banks said that they would serve the cake after the tour in another room. We all felt that the meal was rushed, conversation cut short and drinks left behind with the food.
The tour with Shane was fun but too long; at the end of the tour some more snacks, drinks and some milling around (our party had the cake). Can I suggest that the high tea time be extended by about half an hour, the tour shortened and the drinks at the end would not be necessary at all. Failing that, it would be a good idea to inform all guests of the timing of the event, so that they know what to expect.

When it was built in the 1870s, the Bendigo Joss House Temple was a Chinese place of worship dedicated to the god of war and prosperity. Today, it remains one of the only examples of its kind in Australia and is an important part of Bendigos cultural history.
Such beautifully maintained Chinese temple of worship, built in the 1860's. A must visit in Bendigo, rich in history. It represents the history of Chinese people in Bendigo.

This in such a beautiful place.
I was blown away by the person that was running the place on the day , taking the time to explain about the temple, it's care, and why it"s some important for the community to maintain this temple.

Last time I was here, I thought it'd be a cliche for a Taiwanese to visit a temple. So I labeled the place and thought, maybe next time. This time I read about Kwan-Di in the temple, I had to visit my family God. It turned out very soothing for the home sick me. Educational as well. The gentleman serving at the entry was brilliant in answering questions regarding many aspects of Chinese culture. I was stunned by his knowledge.
It was a visit of great comfort ❤️

For a 150years old building, it is well preserved and the guide was very friendly and communicative
For any non-buddhist visitor, it is A TEMPLE, means its for worship, dont expect something ridiculous rich, if u want that, go to dragon museum.

Pretty average temple and small. Free entry with donations.
If you have time then visit otherwise you can skip it.

We visited this lovely temple four years ago. I was surprised by how well the owner maintained the temple, and lots of understanding of the Chinese culture he possessed, especially he is not any Chinese descendant.
I worshiped Guan Gong here and soon after that I got my first job in Australia. That was amazing.
I am very surprised that the temple is free, but as I always do and encourage my friends to do, is to donate to help the owner preserve it. Remember it is also to preserve your own culture overseas.
Thanks to the owner.
Discovery Science & Technology Centre is a hands-on science museum with exhibits on a variety of topics for children and adults. There is also an area for small kids, a planetarium, and a large slide.
Thw discovery Centre is one of a kind, hands on fun learning space that allows kids of all ages to get stuck into stem, the cool way. Loads of hands on experiences and activities and even has a dr who phone box and an amazing planaterium that absolutely everyone loves, including the adults (sorry bout the time I was so comfy I accidentally went to sleep, hehe)..
They also reciprocate Melbourne museum entry along with science works, immigration museum and Melbourne planetarium, so win win! Handy access to the vline hibz and the shopping centre. Not far from the talking tram tour. An excellent way to waste a lazy wet food afternoon in the cold weather and also has bathroom facilities, storage lockers so you can play about with the kids, and the staff are kinda just a little bit cool too!

We spent a good 2.5 hours here. Our 6 year old really enjoyed it as there were lots to keep her entertained and my husband loved the DaVinci Machines exhibition. The gravity drop slide is fun but pretty scary! It runs at 11am, 1pm and 3pm. The staff were all very helpful and lovely. My only criticism is that some of the exhibitions are looking a little old and could use some TLC.

We spent a very enjoyable morning here on a rainy Saturday. Our 8, 6 and 3 year olds were all entertained the whole time and didn’t say they were bored once! Everyone especially enjoyed the science show and the presenter Miles was fantastic at keeping the kids enthralled! Thank you very much!

Our kids (aged 3.5 and 1.5) loved it. Lots of interactive displays appropriate to different age groups. We will visit again next time we're in Bendigo.

A very educational and fun day out with the Grandchildren. The staff are super friendly and helpful.
Harry was an absolute standout. Fantastic with the children on the vertical slide and did an amazing job in the planetarium with an interesting presentation on our spectacular solar system.
Harry was very engaged with everyone and was happy to answer any questions. Facilities are exceptionally clean and we were allowed to exit the facility and re-enter with our picnic lunch.
Would not hesitate to revisit in future. Thanks to all staff for a very enjoyable and educational 'day out'. The Grandchildren were very enthusiastic when recounting what they had learned throughout the day.
Highly recommend.

The staff were incredible there were two men on shift and they made the experience a 10/10 so polite and explained everything perfectly.
Was an amazing experience for children and us adults. So much to explore and learn we really enjoyed it. Very thing is well priced and fit for all ages. I would of given it 5 stars but some of the activities where either broken or not working.

Went to the string quartet. Excellent. Then it fell apart. The visuals were nothing better than photographs. The seating shocking. No control over rude elderly crowd racing to get it. Could have had better lighting while people being seated. Had feet stepped on a few times, hair pulled as people balanced on back of chairs znd even had head bumped by other heads from people trying to sit.
Won't be back until we hear they have lifeted their game.
Feel bad for the misicians as they were great.

Just looked from the entrance, though think it must be interesting and knowledgeable for children.

Not sure what to say about this place. It's got some fun hands-on activities esp. for younger kids, but the space has a very low-cost feel to it, all the stuff is aged / a bit dirty, some things don't work, the space is not heated (good to know in winter months), the gift shop is sparse and filled with mostly low-quality stuff.
It's like the poor cousin of Scienceworks in Melbourne.
Sami Makelainen — Google review
First ones through the door on a Saturday morning and have to say we found the state of the place quite undesirable.
We had a look at a few of the activities before heading to the under 5 playspace for our little ones to roam around, although I had to spend 5mins collecting popcorn pieces as it appears the floor had not been touched by a vacuum in some time and I wasn't a fan of my 8m old choking on these.
There were pieces of brick falling from the walls in the corner that hadn't been attended to. None of the activities had been reset at all. Is that common practice here? Why have a dinosaur skeleton that's just in pieces with no instruction on how it is meant to look?
It seemed like everything in the little kids area was just broken, and nobody bothered to do anything with it.
Overall, it was a very average experience. If you have young children, I wouldn't waste the time, probably be alright for kids between 8 and 14 at my guess as they would at least enjoy the vertical slide that's there.

Nice place to educate the kids while they still have fun. It's very hands on so good for younger kids too.
Spent about 3 hours here though you could do it in 2 pretty easily.
And make sure you do the vertical slide. It's pretty high but after 1 turn you won't care

Must visit this garden in Bendigo, a traditional Chinese style garden. Very beautiful and you will feel yourself In China. Entry is free but the tickets enter the dragon museum next to this garden.

Beautiful, free, lovely Chinese garden with a pond , traditional Chinese architectures and several lovely trees in bloom when we visited.
It had a temple as part of the complex next door which was also lovely.

I was surprised to find out that many Chinese had arrived Bendigo back in the 1800s to mine gold AND it made up 20 percent of the Bendigo population - oh, how little did I know! This beautiful garden and its authentic architecture and construction was based on the Imperial Palace in Beijing. A must see if you’re traveling to Bendigo

I enjoyed visiting the mining site. There is old relics and a good view from the tower. The walkway is a bit hazardous. Quiet area, public toilets and a park. A good place to visit if you get the chance

It is a lot cleaner and popular with the kids after recent renovations. The park is well worth taking a look when you have the time!

Thoroughly enjoy walking through Victoria Hill and looking at the mining history
Lake Tom Thumb is a beautiful and peaceful place where people can enjoy a nice walk. The track around the lake is well-maintained, making it easy to access and explore.

Bullock Creek Vineyard is a prestigious winery that produces some of the finest Shiraz wines in the area. The friendly and knowledgable staff are always happy to help, and the wine is fantastic - perfect for enjoying with friends. The vineyard is unique in that it occupies a small plot of land nestled among the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, providing a truly refreshing experience.
The Kangaroo Flat Botanical Gardens is a large, well-maintained park that is home to many unusual and beautiful plants. The gardens are full of trees, flowers, and bushes that are native to Australia. There is also a pond with kangaroos living in it, as well as a petting zoo.
Great little spot for a picnic, and far enough away from the busy roads. Kids have plenty of space to kick the footy and run around. BBQ and drink tap facilities
Wayne Bevans — Google review
Calling it a Botanic Garden is a bit of a stretch. A nice enough park with a mix of open space and good shade, large covered BBQ area, tables, taps and and toilets in a quiet spot behind the KFlat shopping strip.

We had a family BBQ, totaly uninterrupted and a very pleasant experience by all. It was a good day. 🤓

I feel like "native botanic garden" is like calling KFC a dine-in restaurant. I mean, grass, some trees..
Secluded for a quick.. well.. whatever your thing is.. but yeh. Not on my "attractions" list.. and shouldn't be on yours.
Kel Grace — Google review
Nice little park, water tap and container provided for dogs. Multiple tables and a little walking track along the creek.
Nicole Franklin — Google review
Native Botanical Gardens is obviously local council speak for run-of-the-mill bushland typical for Bendigo area but also includes sheltered BBQ area (east end of Camp Street) with seating for over 20 people & public toilets (Station Street entrance) 200 metres from picnic/BBQ area. About half an acre of well kept grassland in the same part of these "Gardens". A dog park is located on the east side of the railway line on the corner of Allingham & Chapel Street. It is accessible from the main part of the "Gardens" by following a pedestrian pathway south then beside a creek under a railway bridge. This east side of the rail line also has a children's playground. This is on Allingham street near the Muir Street corner. Depending on what sign you read this area of bush is variously call "Kangaroo Flat Native & Botanical Gardens" or "Kangaroo Flat Native Botanical Gardens" or simply "Kangaroo Flat Native Botanic Gardens". I guess one of the above is probably correct. Anyway at this time of year (early December) there are hundreds of Monarch butterflies in the tree areas. Strangely the Harcourt Oak Forest (often referred to as the "Magic Oak Forest") 30 minutes drive away at the foot of Mount Alexander has thousands of Monarch butterflies, not hundreds, at a different time of year (mid May to mid June) & is incredible walking through a mass of butterflies with every step.

Very sad area (has been for years) regardless of drought etc. Big undercover BBQ area OK, toilets are about 200mtrs from BBQ (didn't use). Plenty of parking and shade. No playground etc. As with most amalgamated councils the attention is given to CBD.
Dianne Allen — Google review
It's a nice spot to sit around the back at the barbecue area ok for a walk if you're an able body person but if you're on a walking frame it's a bit harder
Judith Dawson — Google review
Walk here everyday. It is good for a walk with the kids and dogs, but by no means is maintained for the amount of people that use it. Would be great If council could fund it a bit more and make it something that it easily could be.
