There's an easy 20-30 min walk to the falls and a longer walk along the river, it is all very easy and quiet. Dogs are welcome on leash on most of the track.
There's rubbish bins and toilets at the car park, self-contained camper vans are allowed to stay overnight.

Gorgeous waterfalls and has a very safe pathway for walking.. there are lots of table and bench for people who want to have a picnic time with family.. been here multiple time but still love to comeback from time to time..

Quite an easy walk down to the falls - no handrails to cross the water at the top but it isn't very scary. Small children might need support to cross.
Pathways down were sturdy and lots of handrails to support most of the way down.
Stunning greenery on the walk down and absolutely gorgeous falls and river at the bottom.
I wish I had time to take one of the longer walks.
Free parking and very short walk to the track. Campers can park for 1 night. Public restrooms available at the top.

Good views of the waterfall can be seen from the top, near the carpark and even more so from the base of the falls.

Amazing amazing amazing 🤩 views. A big waterfall with a picturesque view , we can feel water all over us even from a distance. May be because it was raining those days but the waterfall was quite full and big. Can’t get enough of it. The nearby access was all wet so be careful if you go during rainy season.

Visited day after a rainy day, and it was marvelous. The roaring falls were overwhelming and luckily we met a very bright rainbow. The short trail itself, down to the bottom of the falls, is beautiful and calming.

Amazing experience. Would have been greater possibly when it isn't raining.. the route to reach the waterfall is great too

Whangarei Quarry Gardens is a nature space operated by volunteers, located on the site of an old quarry. The gardens feature subtropical flora and fauna, with a man-made lake and several walking paths that weave through the area. Visitors can explore parts of the old quarry integrated into the planting while enjoying delicious refreshments at the onsite café. Entry requires a small fee of a gold coin, making it an ideal stop for those passing through with little time to spare.
This place is "heaven"! Gorgeous gardens all year round with a lake, shady spots, gorgeous sculptures, beautiful flowers and plants, and a wonderful cafe opened from Wednesdays through Sunday. It is the complete package! This place is not to be missed! The gardens have been a community project created and maintained by volunteers for over 30 years! Sinply delightful for all ages!

Quarry gardens? Really? That's what I thought as well. But, wow, what a stunning experience this was! From artistic sculptures to indigenous plants and trees and exotic beauties, its all here. And best of all, you can do the whole garden in under a hour with easy walkways and clearly identified paths. The Echo tunnels were a nice surprise too! We did not get to see a real Kiwi (aww!) but maybe next time. Lovely cafe on site and pay for entrance by means of gold coin admission. Or just be a jerk and don't donate...

Gorgeous gardens that just opened back up about a month ago as it recovered from the cyclone. There is a pretty but small waterfall at the lake area. It’s an easy walk to the lake area.any of the higher paths are still not open but it is still worth a visit. They have a lovely cafe, nice toilets, and a wonderful staff. The gardens are mostly run by volunteers and they do a great job. As others have said, there is no entrance fee but they ask for and deserve donations if you go into the gardens.
There is parking at the top by the entrance but it fills up quickly as this is also the parking for the cafe which seats quite a few. There are other nice paved parking areas lower down the hill.

Small garden and short walk but good variety of flowers to see. Small entry fee of a gold coin. Good if you're passing through and have a few minutes (10-15 mins) to spare.

Beautiful gardens that are coming back after last year’s cyclone.
Personally love the native NZ plants in the garden but many subtropical plants here too.
Quail cafe is a little special, such a great spot, great food and lovely service.

Embarrassing to admit but I lived in Whangarei for the first 21 years of my life and never went here. Finally popped in and was suitably impressed. An old quarry had been turned into a an amazing area to walk and explore. Huge Fig trees like I've never seen before, a man made lake, walks and paths all over, and parts of the old quarry are integrated in the planting. There is a lovely cafe onsite too. Take a hat and walking shoes and lose yourself for a while!

Very nice little paradise. Unfortunately the garden was hit by two landslides due to the cyclone recently and some parts were not accessible. But it was a great experience anyways and it’s lovely to see how nicely everything is arranged and taken care of

This was a lovely day out with family, and I’d really strongly recommend it to anyone with the time.
Started the morning off at the Quail cafe, enjoying stunning coffee, and a range of food options including great Vegan options.
From there, we meandered through to begin a pre-booked Golf Cart tour with Nancy, who was a wonderfully friendly and hospitable tour guide. The cart is a great idea, and enables those with limited mobility to get up and enjoy the entirety of the gardens.

Beautiful spot to visit even with the recent landslides. Grabbed some orchid flowers too which are gorgeous. Lovely reception lady. Thanks

Beautifully landscaped. Too bad there was closure due to the weather to perhaps the best part of the quarry. But hey can't complain if it's by donation. :) be generous, it's a beautiful place for a picnic and a stop over to stretch your legs. Don't forget rain or shine they have umbrellas you could use. Unfortunately, I only saw it on our way back, but it would've been nice to have it offered :) as I was sunburnt 😆 And they sell plants too, so go prepared.

We visited before the storm damage and was upset with the prospect it would be too bad to restore but we are glad to hear that this wonderful garden is still open. It is unique in NZ with such a variety of exotic plants that are well named. Lots of great landscaping design is incorporated into making this a fabulous visit.

I loved coming to these gardens. It doesn't take too too long to explore the place but just about everywhere in the gardens are easily accessible. There is also plenty of picnic tables too. We were happy with the donation entry too.

Great little walk with plenty of plants to see. I bet it looks different in every season! Most plants have labels so it's really cool you can read them all. Plenty of parking with a Cafe aswell. There's plants, rocks, waterfalls, rivers and even a man made cave you can walk through. Check it out! Entry by donation.

Kiwi North is a unique destination consisting of a museum, Kiwi House and Heritage Park. It showcases historical artifacts, as well as the native kiwi bird and geckos. The 19th-century buildings are also a highlight of this attraction. Visitors can expect to be warmly welcomed by informative staff upon arrival. The experience is fun and interactive, making it an excellent alternative to the Auckland Museum. Kiwi North is affordable, with admission fees contributing towards the trust that maintains it.
Been here with my husband and was lovely place to spend on your weekend..
The kiwi so cute, you can see them cleary during lunch hour. There is two of them, and they will come out for eat or walk around their cage.
Also there is a walk path behind the museum which is very nice too.
We spend an hour doing whole tour and was worth it..

Well worth a visit. Great Kiwi House, with cameras inside the den so you’re guaranteed to see something. Plenty to see and do on site. Really nice grounds with a couple of bush walks available as well. Not all the clubs are open each weekend (including the trains), so pays to check the website.

This is the best school holiday destination for younger kids up to about 8 years old. On Wednesdays till 2pm in the school holidays there are miniature trains, a big train and tractor rides. All $2 or $2.50 each and kids ride free. There's a gorgeous model railway, too, complete with Thomas and Percy. Bring your lunch to one of the many picnic areas and enjoy a low cost day out! (NB. The kiwi house is more expensive)
Annaliese Garton — Google review
Cool little place. Saw the Kiwi, have to wait quietly in the dark room and it came out for a walk along the glass window. Interesting displays at the museum and had a little ride on the old train. Cool model train display too!

A really great little museum/heritage sight with the highlight definitely being the kiwi enclosure. They are more likely to come out at feeding time (3pm) but we were told they are active most of the time, we just had to be patient. We checked back a few times during our 1.5h at the centre…they have a cctv screen so you can see if anything is moving. We saw one that was walking around and feeding 😀 There are also lots of geckos to look for.
The rest of the centre is well laid out and perfect for a family day together.

We visited Kiwi North this week and had a great time. From arrival, we were greeted by the wonderful Irene who took the time to explain everything to us and made us feel right at home. You rarely get that kind of engagement these days so it was a nice surprise for us.
We enjoyed seeing the geckos but the star event was of course the kiwi house, where we spent most of our time watching! We arrived just in time for feeding time which I recommend you do the same.
After that, we spent some time exploring the exhibits upstairs and the grounds. It’s very good value for money and the perfect activity for a rainy day!

The main entrance is at Gate 1, but Google Maps directs you to Gate 2. Look for the brown sign for Gate 1. They have a variety of things to see and do throughout the complex. There are 2 Kiwi birds which you can see and a Museum upstairs. Outside, there is the miniature trains which are run by a club. Tickets for this are separate to the entrance fee

Lovely staff with good information and experience. We also bought quite a few souvenirs as there were good products as fair prices. The kiwi room was good and I encourage it to go at 3pm which is feeding time to have then at their most active.

A very quaint Northland museum. We were lucky to see the kiwis, got some pictures of the lizards, and walked around outside a little. The staff was friendly and helpful and I enjoyed learning more about the history of the area.
Jessica Meleah — Google review
At $25 per person the price is quite steep to see just 2 kiwis, 11 gekos (of 3-4 different kinds), some stick insects and a whole heap of cicadas. Apparently the ticket entitles you to visit bunch of other things, we found all of them to be free (volunteer run societies and buildings - even the museum upstairs was free entry). Wouldn't recommend buying the tickets unless you happen to visit the Kiwis during their feeding time (at 3pm) as you'll most likely get to see one of the most active Kiwis in New Zealand (running around looking for food like it's had few dozen Expresso shots)
Thiranjith Weerasinghe — Google review
Fantastic! You can monitor kiwis while they forage, even calling, I was fascinated. Lots of information about kiwi and geckos, the museum is also very interesting so are the heritage sites. You can spend quite a time here. Really nice place.

Had a lovely trip to this little treasure, rode the train and tram with the boys, they also enjoyed the large train model with lots of details to appreciate. We walked around the well kept grounds and watched the kiwis being fed, leaving there we spotted some well hidden and camouflaged lizards and geckos and finished the visit with a look around the souvenir shop.

Cindy Scholtz — Google review
We went on Easter Sunday, nothing much to see, all the outside buildings are locked up, we thought it was due to the holiday but was told by a local lady it has always been like that, other than walking around you can't do nothing and see nothing. We didn't end up pay to go inside museum in case there is more disappointment. It is a waste of time. They could have done a lot to the whole park to make it more interesting and attractive for tourists and locals.
Catherine Zhang — Google review
Real cool place to walk and have a look. You can see historical buildings such as a homestead, blacksmith and school. Even an old women's jail!
There is bush walking tracks aswell and sometimes the train will be running and buildings will be open to public containing multiple old engines and other machinery. All these are free to see. There's even a gemstone store!
You could pay some money to visit the Kiwi museum (with a pair of actual kiwis) and an actual museum containing lots of interesting things like a Moa skeleton. On site is also an observatory and bird sanctuary. Family friendly and smoke free. Really interesting!
Whangarei Town Basin is a credit the Whangarei District Council. We really enjoyed the Hātea Loop walkway between the Town Basin, Port Road and Riverside Drive. We walked from the basin along the river through Hihiaua Park and over the Kotuitui Whitinga footbridge, a rotating bridge over the Waiarohia Stream. It rotates one section to allow boats through. we then headed South and watched the Te Matau A Pohe bridge raise to allow a catamaran to travel downstream. After crossing the new bridge, we checked out the new Camera Obscura and read about the first cameras. This is well worth a visit. Following the path along Pohe Island Road and alongside Riverside Drive and across Victoria Bridge to complete the loop while checking out all the boats. We ate at many of the eateries in the Basin while we were in town, all were great. We visited some more than once. Alongside the Claphams national Clock Museum is the fairly new Rolling Ball Clock, well worth checking out. We also visited the Hundertwasser Art Centre, an extremely eclectic building. On the weekend we visited the markets in Putahi Park at the North end of the basin. All in all, the Town Basic in a lovely place to visit. The only downside is the parking, however it isn't too hard to find a spot a short walk away.

Claphams National Clock Museum is a fascinating place to learn about the history of timekeeping. The museum houses a collection of over 3,000 clocks, dating from the 16th century to the present day. The clocks are from all over the world, and they come in all shapes and sizes.
I highly recommend visiting Claphams National Clock Museum if you are interested in clocks or history. It is a great place to learn about the science of timekeeping and to see some amazing examples of clockmaking from all over the world.
Overall, I had an amazing time at Claphams National Clock Museum. I learned a lot about the history of timekeeping, and I saw some amazing clocks. I highly recommend this museum to anyone who is interested in clocks or history.
Here are some additional tips for visiting the museum:
Allow at least two hours to see the entire museum.
There is a small entrance fee.
There is a small cafe on the ground floor where you can get snacks and drinks.
The museum is open from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm, seven days a week.

Amazing place 3 caves to explore all are partly filled with water. If you want to explore them properly come when there is good weather (no chance of rain and flooding) to get in to them you will climb down a few boulders and then wade about exploring. The floor is slippery and you might end up in the water so best have a waterproof torch!

Definitely a cool spot. You gotta have some caving experience, go with someone or as a group, and be prepared to wade through waist deep water in some areas. Flashlights, torches, and headlamps are essential. Some eels swim about. Once you get to the middle cave, TURN OFF the lights to see heaps of glow worms on the walls and ceiling. Don't lose your way tho!

A bit steep on the north end, but manageable with lots of well-maintained stairs.

I found a baby fantail on the ground in the Bush track during horrendous weather. I couldn't leave him there so I gathered him up, but quickly realised I wouldn't be able to look after him. A phone call to the bird recovery centre and a short drive later the little fellow was in good hands and had the best chance of survival. What a relief, as I did promise his Mummy that he would be okay. So thank you to the amazing team at the bird recovery, you do wonderful work!!

We came hoping to meet the famous Sparky and got so lucky: Robert and one of the volunteers invited us to join a guided tour that was about to start. Such an amazing place, they do incredible work.

The Bird Recovery Maunu Whangarei is the most trustworthy and safest place to take an injured bird/s when a bird is in need of help, the people who work there do a marvellous job in caring and rehabilitating the birds back to a safe recovered health so that the birds can be set free back into their wild world.

We had a fabulous visit and I learnt so much. Absolutely loved it. Lived seeing my first Kiwi
Ros Stansell — Google review
The bird recovery center is truly a gem of New Zealand, I had the opportunity to meet Robert on a recent trip and it was the highlight of my vacation.
During my visit I got to meet Sparky one of the only brown kiwi that people can see up close and personal in New Zealand.
Robert's passion for education and sustainability of endemic birds is unmatched.
As with many kiwi houses in NZ kiwi are kept in darkened rooms to stimulate their environment and in accordance to regulation and law. The bird recovery center allows for the occasion to see a kiwi up close and personal, unlike the darkened blob at many other locations. This darkened environment is not entirely natural as the kiwi is not a nocturnal bird and provides a disservice to those looking to learn more.
Sparky is a wonderful little bird, he lost a leg in an animal trap but has been is now healthy and full of energy.
Robert uses Sparky as an educational tool to teach the people of NZ about the national icon.
This is truly a gem and recommend anyone visiting NZ to make the trip up to Whangarei and drop in. Though location may not always be open(sometimes the sign says closes) , keep a look out for Robert's truck, as he may be in the back feeding!
The aviary is open and free to visit. You can even see Sparky hunt for worms!
I highly suggest providing a donation to help sustain the center and feed Sparky and his friends.
I also had the rare opportunity to see a kiwi chick that was recently hatched, Robert ensures they are healthy and in good shape before releasing them into the wild!
Thank you again to Robert and the center for the opportunity of a lifetime!

The work they do is absolutely brilliant, nothing is too much trouble for these wonderful volunteers. Our birdlife is so lucky to have this team.

We visited this centre today about 1pm to realise the unattended information room was the only public access available.
Very disappointing as expected to be able to view the rehabilitation of Birds in the Centres care.
There was a Donation Box in the room and YES we did make a. donation regardless of our disappointment

Awesome work these volunteers do, awesome place for birds to recover and the grounds are full of birds that are free to fly after they have been released & have chosen for stay, aways bring injured birds here! Wonderful place!

Spoke to Rob on the phone and a couple hours later we were at the Whangarei Native Bird Recovery Centre getting a tour of the grounds with the man himself!
Rob is the kind of man who is living the “do what you love & you’ll never work a day in your life” phrase. Very passionate about the work he’s doing and is more than happy to have a yarn with a couple tourists and let them meet the world famous Sparky the one-legged kiwi! The highlight of our NZ tour without a doubt.
Please be sure to donate to the centre if you visit too, they need all the help they can get to continue doing the great work they do!! (It may even increase your chances of meeting the cutest little bird in NZ!!)
Thanks again Rob, you gave us a great memory!

What a remarkable experience meeting the birds especially the Tuis who had memorised and repeated such phrases as “come up here” and “give us a kiss“, whistling tunes especially “pop goes the weasel”! All of these have been learned apparently from another bird, but originally from Robert, the bird recovery guardian!
Beautiful walk around the Whangarei marina and water way leading to it, it has water stations and toilets along the way.
It’s cycling friendly and incorporates a sculpture trail which has some pretty cool pieces.
If you’re in whangarei and looking for a good walk then this is it.
Highly recommended for beginners to seriously fit gym bunnies lol

Really well set up walk/bicycle way with great paths, plants, with lots of beautiful sculptures, places to stop and sit and enjoy the views of the river, Te Matau A Pohe Bridge and the marina. We started the bike path at Beach Road Onerahi, right into town and around the Hatea Loop and stopped and had a picnic on the grass at the marina. This is a fantastic asset for Whangarei. #loveithere #whangareipark #LetsGuide #childfriendly #wheelchairaccessible

Really loved this walk! Great place to take kids, lots of things to look at and read about relevant local history and events. Council has done a marvelous job of setting this up

This is a fabulous walk for all ages. Legs, prams, scooters, bikes, dogs ... all are welcome! There is plenty of seating along the way with views of the boats in the basin. Lawns for a picnic stop. There are sculptures, 2 large playgrounds, the camera obscura, bridges. Definitely a worthwhile walk.

Wonderful glass and ceramic pieces and fun to watch glass blowing at rear. Very helpful owners trying to overcome NZ Post office now EXTREMELY exorbitant rates for exporting items. Beautiful original works. Well worth the visit.

This is always one of the.must see stops when we have visitors to Whangarei.and visit the town basin. Love to buy NZ art as gifts for special occasions from Burning Issues. Staff are friendly and helpful and watching the glass blowing is a treat.

Great place with heaps of really neat stuff created by really talented artists. The glass blowing is the highlight with plenty of items for sale and catering for all tastes.

Great selection and variety of artworks available for sale. The glass blower’s studio at the back of the store is usually operating and open to the public, quite interesting to watch and I could watch for ages.
Hamish Haywood — Google review
We often call in to this gallery when we visit Whangarei. Nice selection of glass objects together with an eclectic range of other artists work. Love watching the glass blower's at work. Also close to a number of good cafes/restaurants.

I purchased a beautiful piece online from the gallery. They went the extra mile to send me photos of other options and then to sort out a shipping issue that arose (through no fault of their own). The standout customer service and lovely products would make me choose them as my first port of call for a special/significant gift in future.
A pleasant surprise to pump into this tour. Prior to the tour, we were explained in detail where we would be visiting, price, and length of tour together with safety instructions. The weather was perfect, and we really enjoyed the ride and serious pose.

Great pit stop. Has a few picnic tables and public toilets, accessible without having to go inside the building. A nice little bridge and playground for those with kids who may need to stretch there legs. Stop there every time we travel that way.
Snazzy Dragon — Google review
Not kept as clean as they used to be. The toilets seem to be hit and miss these days however, they do have a shower room which is great for the freedom campers. They could do with a coffee van which would be a good break for the long distance traveller.

The ISite itself is wonderful. Very well laid out and clean, workers are relaxed and helpful.
The food truck outside? The awful, horrible woman working there made my autistic sister breakdown and cry.
I could not find which business ran this truck, so I assume it is sponsored by the ISite since they had a sign promoting the truck. My sister was having an awful day and just needed some kindness, or even just to bet met with a basic/neutral attitude. Nope. The woman was impatient, rude, and mean. It was lucky I was there so I could step up and order for her. Not that either of us felt much like eating after that interaction.
Megan Hoffman — Google review
A handy place to stop for a coffee or for using the toilet facilities but it all looks and feels tired.
Originally, the building (toilet block) was adorned with artistic features but neglect and a lack of appreciation has worn it down.
The same feeling of gloom hangs over the cafe and info center: "I do my job but don't ask me to get exited about it.'
Council: do your job and keep it pristine! Staff: pick up those trailing serviettes and refresh those wrinkled posters. Cleaning the tables (cafe) after visitors left should not be too daunting too. Or a smile when taking the orders.

Has showers and lots of toilets that are clean.
Information centre I have been into once and gotten a coffee but bit expensive but nice. There is a large park opposite the parking you can sit in there and eat or the kids can play in the park, especially if it is a pit stop..toilet, eat and run around and stretch their legs.
frances fergusson — Google review
Lovely people who were helpful as, they have hot showers there too which is a bonus for any first-time off-griders and the like. It's $3/token bought from the info centre and it gives 5 minutes of hot water. Epic!

These wharepaks are always clean and it's our favourite rest stop on those long trips down the line. Lots of parking space, shade, a play ground next door and sometimes has a coffee/Kai vendor there too. Very convenient.

Good spot to stop on the journey north, toilet facilities are pretty average, could be cleaner but also get a high foot traffic. The toilets do lock at night but there is a 24 hour toilet available

Exceptional food. Fast to come out to your table. I had the salmon sashimi. 6 good sized portions. Super fresh and served beautifully, like roses. Good quality soy sauce and Wasabi. I also had the tofu and soup with ginger, this was super good. And I tried the waffle, matcha ice cream and red bean paste. Exceptional flavours and generous portion size.

Hot shower costs three euros for 5 minutes. It has a coin system, the coins you can buy in the information centre. Freedom camping area for 5 cars for only one night. Nice place with 24hour toilet. It is next to the road, so it can be a little noisy.

Not much inside, and the car park is full of suuuper dodgy people. I'd never leave a car unattended there. Gang members there last time I stopped also. They do have toilets at least

Very informative lady, plenty of parking. Heaps of souvenirs for anything you may need. Talked to Saehee about all our needs and she drew up a full itinerary for us. Highly appreciated! Heaps of maps, brochures and just everything. Joint to a cafe as well so you can flick through all the maps you just got. Would recommend if coming through Whangarei
The Whangarei Growers Market is a vibrant community event that takes place every Saturday morning from 6am to 10am. It offers a wide variety of locally grown produce, including elephant garlic, limes, olives, feijoas, and even pineapples during specific months. Visitors can also sample and purchase homemade chutneys, sauces, preserves, honey, and olive oil while enjoying the music from buskers.
It still has a variety of fruits, veggies, plants & other food , fish.
Head down Saturday mornings there maybe something there for you or a hot cuppa & a catch up ( chin wag ).

If u live in Whangarei or just visiting this is the place to buy ur produce. Meeting the growers and cutting out the middleman allows them more profit and buyers cheaper prices. Lots of advice and tips given also. Don't forget to get in the que across the road for lovely warm treats and savouries. Well worth the wait. Sat morning growers Market is a tradition and the longest running growers Market in the southern hemisphere we are told. Big 👍

I eat. Fruits and Veges and drink coffee . I shull out oysters when they be in season. I love fresh produce.and then home made cheese. I just bought some pepperoni salami. It tastes delicious. I don't want to share it with my parents , because they are dedicated tik-tokers. This way there is more to go around for me.

Great market with a range of stalls selling fresh veg, fruits, berries, herbs, eggs, cheeses, salami and fish. Also a stall with seedlings - tomato's, chilli's, capsicum, zucchini etc. Opens at 6am so awesome for the early bird.

Great opportunity to buy local. Parking is a juggle and prepare to be there by 9am. 9.30am stalls are mostly packed up
Christine Crawford — Google review
I find there are too many stalls at markets that think they have the massive overheads that the supermarkets have, and the prices are dearer now than supermarkets. The commercial vegetable stall, huge as it is has product 50% dearer than the supermarkets and and certain stalls like bananas and watermelon are twice as dear as supermarkets.
I spoke to Robert at the markets and he said just don't buy from them.
The Chinese guy who sells strawberries and now watermelon is 4 times the price of the supermarkets, and can't understand English just laughs at you. I suggest do your due diligence before you go to the markets as some of the stalls there are totally taking advantage of you cheers.

A cozy market. You will find all you need, and most comes so fresh from the field or from the garden. You can have breakfast and drink lot's of good coffee. It's only a pity that they start so incredibly early on Saturday.

A lot of great produce. 👍
And, I was finally able to get my hands on the pineapples..
I was pleased to find a good range of arts and crafts for sale, and really pleased to see the prices are quite a lot lower than the touristy places nearby. I recommend you have a browse here, as well as a walk around the beautiful quarry gardens. Great to see artists working on their art, it makes the products more appealing.

The Quarry Arts Centre is an interesting and eclectic place, brimming with creativity 👀
It is an artist commune, where artists from different genres and different mediums 😯 (ceramics, glass, wood, etc.) reside together at enclosed by bush covered walls of the old quarry.
There are different gravel and unpaved tracks to follow, which will lead you to interesting garden art and sculptures 🗿surrounded by lush green bush🌲a flowing river, and an awesome waterfall near the back of the property.
There are many artists busy at work, creating their next masterpiece 🖌 Some welcome a chat, while others are too immersed in their work.
There is a cafe, a gift shop, a place to buy art supplies 🎨 and a dedicated gallery to the famous Yvonne Rust.
They offer kids classes 👨🎨 holiday programmes, pottery, NZQA certified Diploma Courses, workshops, and online shopping 🖱
Although extremely interesting, it seems a bit dilapidated and in need of some TLC ❤

Visited on a Saturday of a long weekend but most shops closed. Rather neglected look about it, which was disappointing to my friend who had fond memories from back in the day at the Quarry. Directional signage to the Centre from the highway was poor. I could see that it was a really cool place in days gone by.

I ❣ this place, I buy small pieces of art for my friends here sometimes. They have artist studios, ive been in them, the artists are friendly, ive struck up many conversations with some of the artists and artist run shop, the cafe is pretty nice, the grounds are super lovely. There are sprays of colors exploding through the cracks of very old cement walls as one walks about here. Plant life abounded with new and livid colours , spreading new shoots for life reaching out. Every new zealander srsly needs to visit here, it feeds your brains 🧠 🧠 🧠 if you show signs of creative life within the arts. Its simply a must go place, where you are free to become the saunterer, absorbing , it all in. Take stock of all the surroundings,
