The Charlestown Swim Centre is a pleasant facility with spacious change rooms and two pools. It is often used for various courses, such as the PST course organized by TAFE, where friendly staff cordoned off a section of the pool for life raft exercises. While the cafe may be a bit pricey, it does offer coffee and refreshments. Many people enjoy visiting this swim centre due to its welcoming and cheerful atmosphere.
We love visiting the pools at Charlestown. Such a friendly, happy atmosphere. Kids area is fantastic! Look forward to when its open again.

As a customer for the past 40 years, the changes haven't been progressive.
This centre is purely Swim Club focused.
General customers are not treated well.
Being under staffed might explain the rudeness of staff.
I suggest a single unisex/ parent, child change room. Children over 8 are not permitted in the opposite sex amenity block.
And the Canteen is ordinary, if you get served that is. Do better Lake Mac

What happenedbto the revamp went for a swim the other day you can't even buy a meal pie anymore what happened to Aussie tradition and the food was terrible. Death to the Aussie meat pie are we to good for that now. But the sad part those pool renovations what happened it's identical to what is wad when I went there as a kid 30 years ago. Give this place some life already and let Aussies be Aussies so sad to see sad individuals controlling what we choose to put in our bodies

Nice swim centre with big change rooms. Two pools. We went here for PST course arranged by TAFE. The staff was friendly and a section of the pill was cordoned off for us for the life raft exercises. The cafe though a tad on the pricey end did have coffee and refreshments

Rude, intimidating, unacceptable behaviour by life guards who were rude towards my son while he hung out with his mate.
This life guard was constantly nagging them, following them, yelling at them when the boys just wanted to have fun in the water!!!
Staff are two-faced towards parents and their kids!! Won’t let the kids have fun by themselves!!
WE WON’T BE RETURNING!!

Great pool, nice shade and amazing lifeguards. Only issue is carpark is fully open and means your hot car on a hot day is gonna be a cooker by the time you get back. Besides that it's awesome pool.

Super unimpressed with the quality of the Learn To Swim Program. Poorly trained swim teachers and ZERO communication with parents. Won’t be returning for another term. Waste of money.

This was the absolute worst experience I’ve ever had at a public pool. Staff rude. No respect towards swimmers at all. Many encounters with rude members of the elderly community, who seemed to think the pool was solely for their use. One particular lady became aggressive and started verbally abusing me and surrounding swimmers. This experience left me hesitant
to return and I hope no one else shares my experience as other times at this pool have been better.
Charlestown Square is a vast and diverse retail complex that opened its doors in 1979, boasting over 240 stores, including supermarkets and department stores. The shopping center spans over nine hectares and offers more than 300 services and shops to cater for all your shopping needs. It's considered the major regional shopping hub of the city with an incredible Christmas experience for children to enjoy.
Beautiful handmade creations. Great jewelry, Bath bombs, paintings, doll's, knitted creations, mandalas, origami, books, candles, vases... Just name it! My favourite store in Newcastle!

Great Christmas activities, today I specifically went to view the Reindeers that were wandering through the centre. Great Cafes here you would be hard pressed not to find something to snack on or have a meal on. Plenty of shops and bargains to be had.

Charlestown Square is a shopper's paradise. The multiple food courts offer dining options for shoppers making a day of it. The cinemas provide a fantastic movie-watching experience with comfy seating and top-notch sound. The mall itself is beautifully designed, with a plethora of stores to explore. It's a must-visit destination for retail therapy and entertainment.

I love the shopping mall which has most of essential shops. As one of the biggest shopping mall, the square accommodates from food to fashion. I often watch movies at reading cinema which I love very much. Indeed, the square also hosts Big W, Woolworth, Coles, great and complete food court, Kmart, and other famous branded shops.

This is my local shopping centre and has all your shopping needs. Has a great Christmas experience for the kids so I definitely recommend it at this time of year. The food court has some great options and also outside. You could spend the day here going to the movies shopping and there's a timezone and strike and places to get your groceries.

Is big, well maintained, with good shops, great food places and enough parking spaces.
Only bad thing about it is the Timezone place in here. The shopping centre management is doing a great job regarding the whole centre but they have to supervise the only entertaining place as is too small and with %50 of games broken/faulty.
Faraz Mirshokraei — Google review
A huge shopping complex that has every imaginable retailer/product spread over several levels. This means lots of walking and having a good memory as to what is where on each level. There are many nice eateries and coffee shops to take a break along the way.
The car park has green and red ceiling lights indicating empty and occupied spaces making it very easy to locate a parking spot.

This is a good quality shopping mall. It has a variety of retailers, and (most importantly) there are various coffee shops scattered throughout the complex. I would think that most children are interested in the play areas and the electronic gaming arcade.

This shopping centre has to be one of the best in the Hunter. The whole centre is very clean, a great variety of stores and food outlets in the food court. There are plenty of lifts and escalators throughout for easy access between levels. Toilets are plentiful. Great parking, free for the first 3 hours. Highly recommend.

Interior is fine but the exterior is disgusting. Both bus stops are always filthy as no effort is made to clean them or even empty the bins. The shelter over the bus stop stand A leaks so badly my shoes and jeans are soaked through from a 10 minute wait (No alternative shelter close enough to the bus stop to be able to see your bus arrive/signal it) and every chair was soaked from the shelter top leaking. Stand C is always so filthy it is preferable to sit on the garden wall a few ft away. Parts of the bus shelter were pouring water out in a steady stream onto the seats and "covered" area - i suspect the guttering has not been cleaned in a very long time.

Nice and big with lots of good store choices, dining selection is a little small and places like Kotara are better for that though if shopping is main priority then Charlestown is pretty good.
This playground is complete with a giant slide, a climbing tower, swings, a bike track and more. It's perfect for all ages and abilities and can be found on two hectares of land with picnic facilities.

A park by the lake. Perfect for bringing the kids on a picnic. The play equipment is safe and you can play freely and freely. The good thing about it is that it can be played by both young and old children.
It is interesting that there is sand, sound, and rotating play equipment. In addition, the play area is fenced off, so you can play with peace of mind.
Since it was Sunday, there was a market. It seemed like there were more handmade items than food and drinks. It was fun to wander around and look around and talk to the staff at the shops.
There are no shops nearby, so you need to prepare clothes, food, etc. There are some toilets that don't even have paper, so it's best to be prepared.

Great place to take the 4wd on the sand and stop for a bbq. Not too far from Sydney either. Would suggest you bring your own compressor as often the petrol station closest to the beach has a broken compressor and the one further south frequently has a long queue for it especially on sunny public holidays/weekends

One of the few places you can still drive and camp on the beach close to Sydney. The beach itself is 5 star. Downside is it’s packed on long weekends for the same reason. There are zero ammenities and no rubbish bins. Also they have recently stopped access to the majority driving on the dunes. I have towed a van onto the beach but would not recommend it to stock vehicles as it can get very soft. If you have to go try mid week as it’s not so crowded. It is a little pricey for the beach pass and be careful buying the annual pass as it expires the same time every year regardless of when you purchased it.

This place used to be awesome but there's not much your aloud to do here anymore. No camping, no driving up the dunes. After a bad storm this beach is almost unrecognizable so i don't know why all these restrictions are forced down our throats in the name of "protecting the dunes and environment" when 4 wheel drives couldn't do half the damage a natural weather event does to this beach in 5 minutes.

The self appointed BWSP greeny/fun police have completely ruined everything that was good about this entire area. Their single focus has been to lock out and exclude anyone that doesn't fit their narrow minded vison of how the park should be used.
This used to be a fantastic place to take the family camping, enjoy the great outdoors and have some good old fun, now all its used for is to take photos of BWSP wannabes planting a tree they can post a virtue signalling speal on Facebook and "watch birds"
Its a joke, thankfully these dinosaurs will be gone soon.

I only paid my park fees to camp on the beach. I was extremely disappointed the locals allowed this to change.
Its still ok at the red head end for the kids to play otherwise not worth the extra expense of a permit and cleaning the sand off the car...
Museum of Art and Culture Lake Macquarie is a national, international and Hunter-based museum that features rotating exhibitions with a focus on contemporary visual arts. The museum has beautiful views of Lake Macquarie from its sculpture park and cafe.
I am a huge supporter of Australian art. It was a huge shame that the original house on this site was under repair, and covered with scaffolding, but my wife assured me the work was for a very good reason - the presence of asbestos. When the house was built, the dangers of this element weren't really known, but the ease with which it could be used for building.was. So, fair enough that they used it then. When the house is restored the Museum will be truly stunning. What is here and now though is a world class facility with some pretty interesting exhibits including video art and a wonderful audio soundscape playing in the background. The modern expression of Aboriginal art is much like the ancient expression - with the motivation consistently being the meaning of belonging and the expression of place. Just that there's been the belligerent colonisation by the English over the last 250 years which adds anger and frustration to the mix. You see that in the current exhibition. I really enjoyed the gallery, but only wished it was bigger. The gift shop was special, especially since it had a large range of trinkets and art pieces by local artists and not endless copies of the Mona Lisa or worse, Andy Warhols soup cans.... Wait... Perhaps Andy sells.... Mostly the work of local artists, at least. Which is nice. The sculpture garden is a 10 minute walk well worth it. The three Bears cafe is a nice spot for lunch, but that's another review, close by.

Remarkably poor service, only one of the waitstaff could raise a smile, certainly we didn’t have a booking but we felt unwelcome. At least one thing wasn’t on the menu but we didn’t find out till we went to order, it all seemed too hard. Very different from the impression we got from the website, where the menu seemed far more extensive. We decided not to take up any more of their time, left and were delighted with a very different experience at Hippo Espresso nearby in Warners Bay. Good customer service is not hard.

First time visiting at this historic home of Ellen G. White!
It’s nice that the house that was built over 100 years ago is remained still!
The door wasn’t open but I was walking around and took some pictures there!
It would be nice to have a tour for it so make sure you book it ahead of time if you’d like!

The actual home of Helen G White. When my grandpa and grandma lived only a hundred or so metres away down the road and we used to visit, we'd all go for a walk to here and see the wonderful exhibits from the islands. One thing that stood out, was the plane that was mounted on a pole near the house! Being a Seventh Day Adventist community, opening hours were only on certain days, but still worth a visit!

I miss the community atmosphere of the Markets at Speers Point. Such a beautiful open space for families to buy food and sit & enjoy it on the grass under a tree or at one of the covered picnic tables, & then perhaps pop into the playground for a bit of fun. I understand the reason behind the move to Glendale, especially with the weather being so wet in recent times, but it's just not the same in a great big crowded concrete car park.
