Nathula pass, situated on the ancient Silk Road, linked Sikkim to China's Tibet autonomous region. It is one of India's highest motorable roads that provides a scenic view of the Indo-Chinese border. The meaning of Nathu La is listening ears and pass respectively. However, taking pictures on the actual border is strictly prohibited and can lead to military action being taken against you.
Nathula pass is Indo-China border area about 60 odd kms/ 2 hours drive from Gangtok. Situated at eastern part of Sikkim. This place is very beautiful and scenic, you get to see top view of Sikkim. China border is just barb wire away. Weather gets extremely cold in winter, mostly sub zero degrees. High security area, so you need to take a permit prior to the visit. Photography is not allowed at the border region due to security reasons.

It was a very beautiful location , nathula has 3-4 places to visit . Temi tea garden monastery, char dham Sai mandir rope way.. each point has its own beauty. Must visit places. Love being there. The natural view you will feel is a very good experience on the way.. and the clouds over the char dham temple will give you a kailash parvat feel. Inside the main temple there are a lot of sculptures of God Shiv about their marriage and all. You will feel very positive here ..

Visiting Nathula pass is an experience in itself.
Visited here with family in January first week. My younger daughter started having breathing. I too got breathing issues when I quickly ran on the stairs after 14000 feet.
You need to be really careful with high as altitude.. Do not exert too much too fast.. Take it easy and keep yourself covered in cold weather.
You have to register online with Sikkim Govt and get travel card and find a travel agent to do the rest of the approvals one day in advance.
Once on the top you can see China post.. If the weather is good you can even see China army personnel on the other side.

Nathula pass is india china border and the security is very strict around. only few vehicles are allowed per day on pay basis. They charge 4k per vehicle, we can go to the top which is the highest point and luckily we had snow fall during our visit. we can view the office where both indian and chinese military officials sit and discuss. It is a beautiful experience give a try.

This is the highest altitude, I have ever been to, 14,140 feet, almost half the height of Mount Everest. The experience at Nathu-La Pass through which the old silk route went across China is absolutely incredible.
An emotional swing of patriotism, because it's a border with China and ecstasy, knowing you are witnessing a place seeped in historical relevance.

Must Experience this location once and see how beautiful it is in its own way where one can witness China just beside them, and how our Indian Soldiers were doing their duty religiously in that freezing temperature a Big Salute to them

Nathula pass is located in the old silk route, connecting Sikkim to China's Tibet autonomous region. It's one of the highest motorable roads in India.
Nathu means listening ears and La means Pass.
Quite literally you can see the indo-chinese border and feel the thrills.
Taking photos on the actual border is strictly prohibited with actionable steps taken from military.
Make sure to get the certificate from here at a nominal price.
A valid permit is required to visit this pass and only given to Indian Nationals, so do carry a Valid ID Proof and 2 photos. No worries if you don't have photos, there are plenty photo booths peppered across Gangtok Mall road for exact same purpose.

Nathula Pass is nothing but a dream destination for all travellers. I feel very fortunate that I was able to visit this place which has been on my bucket list for a very long time. To visit Nathula you need to get special permission from the authority.
I have booked a package for the day which included Nathula pass, Changu Lake and Baba Harbhajan Mandir and they manage all the permits.
The experience was very unbelievable and it was the closest border encounter so far I have ever had where I can see China on the other side, it was amazing to see Chinese military soldiers saying Namaste to us.

Visiting Natula Pass, located on the India-China border in Sikkim, was an unforgettable experience. Despite the chilly temperatures in March, the journey was incredibly pleasant.
The road leading to Natula Pass was not only scenic but also well-maintained, making the drive enjoyable. Along the way, I encountered friendly locals who were supportive and willing to share insights about the region. Their warmth added to the overall charm of the trip.
As I reached the pass itself, the cold was quite intense, a reminder of the high-altitude location. But it was also a thrilling sensation, being at the border of two powerful nations. The serene beauty of the snow-covered landscape, coupled with the unique blend of cultures in this area, left a lasting impression.
Overall, my visit to Natula Pass was a memorable adventure, offering a glimpse into the natural beauty and geopolitical significance of this remote border region in India's northeastern state of Sikkim.

Tsomgo Lake, also known as Tsongmo Lake or Changgu Lake, is a glacial lake in the East Sikkim district of the Indian state of Sikkim, some 40 kilometres from the capital Gangtok. Located at an elevation of 3,753 m, the lake remains frozen during the winter season. A very sparkling place to make your photos enhanced everytime you click, go in Feb March. You may get ice there, however we went there last month with a little spoon of bad luck, neither clicked a picture with lake nor touched ice as they were absent. You may see the cow like creatures (I actually don't know the name of that species) get a ride, though it was optional. Make sure you visit the nearby market, food plazas definately disappoint you, although the washrooms are more expensive than iPhones in terms of accessing. May the photographs please you.

=> The temple was established in 1952 and since then maintained by the Indian army.

This shrine in Sikkim is located 11 kms from Gangtok,on the road to another famous attraction, Tsomgo lake, Nathula. A visit to this place will make you feel spiritual; as soon as you ascend the stairs, a far distant prayer comes into sight and religious music is heard. The best part of it all, is the view one gets, which comprises a site of a small part of Gangtok town and the alluring neighbouring hills and valleys.
The legends has it, Hanuman flew down to this very spot to rest while flying with Sanjeevani (herb) Mountain from the Himalayas to Lanka to save Lord Rama's brother, Lakshman.

Hanuman temple is dedicated to lord Hanuman, and maintained by the Indian army. It was established in 1952. According to the locals, when Hanuman was flying to Dunagiri (mountain) which had the life saving herb Sanjeevani to save Lord Rama's brother Lakshmana, he rested in the spot for some time where his temple now lies.
But according to our guide, someone from the ministry had a dream about the same and that’s why the temple is here.
Anyway, the temple is a good spot to visit. Must take laddu parshad.

Breath taking experience, great history to go with & marvelous scenic views. I would recommend to carry bubblegum or korpur, so that if you lack oxygen then those chewing gum helps to control the oxygen level. Recommend not to do any hard physical activities. The area totally under the control of Indian Army. Overall the experience is mesmerizing & I'm humble that i reached & able to share this natural beauty.

Amazing place with a peaceful atmosphere. Temperaure is generally lower than 0 degrees. It has parking space and has a toilet. There is a small snacks corner nearby which serves very limited food, mainly maggi and sandwich. You can find snow here, gloves recommended. Also the elevation makes it difficult to breathe for certain people so plan accordindly.

This is not a temple of God but an extraordinary soldier who had taken a pledge to serve the country even after his death. Yes, this temple is build in respect of soldier who passed away years back but still stayed on army rolls till he retired. After he died and his body was not found for days due to snow all around, he came into dream of his fellow soldier and told whereabouts of his body. From that day onwards he comes into dreams of soldier and tells about preparedness and mischief of neighbouring enemy china. He kept on receiving all dues from army till his retirement age even after his death. People come here with great faith. One to to respect this faith and appreciate the vibrant culture from which we all belong. The temple is fully managed by Army.

As one lands at this location one hears very invigorating songs expressing ones love for the nation,. The shrine itslef is very well kept and manged by the Indian Armed forces. As you enter one is overwhelmed by the divinity that surrounds the memorial.
I was surprised when I first heard the story behind this place. It's up to you to believe it or not, but the fact remains that it has become a famous tourist spot. This is close to Nathula Pass and after visiting Nathula pass, your tourist guide will take you to this place. The story goes like this, Harbhajan Singh was an Indian Army Jawan, who was patrolling the border and carrying his duty. One day he dies while he was performing his duty, but people notice that his room, his bed all are soiled / being used by someone even after his death. The belief is that he is still visiting this place and guarding the border. So, the locals have built a temple like thing around his living room with his artifacts. Everyone visit this place to pay homage to this great soul.

The Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is a museum, library and research center dedicated to Tibetan culture located in a picturesque forest setting. Established in 1958, it houses an impressive collection of culturally Tibetan/Buddhist artifacts including tantric skull-cap bowls and trumpets made from human thigh bones. The main hall features beautiful Buddhist statuary such as the eight-armed bronze image of victory goddess Namgyalama.

Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is like a special place that tells the story of Tibet. Imagine walking into a room filled with old things that show how Tibetans lived a long time ago—statues, books, and objects that are really important to them.
As you explore, it's like going on a journey through time. You can see how they worship their gods and goddesses, and you can even read old books that tell their stories. It's like a big treasure chest of Tibetan culture, and you can spend a happy hour discovering all these interesting things.
Close to the museum, there's a monastery up a small hill. It's like a peaceful place where people go to pray and find peace. Adding this visit makes the whole experience even more special. It's like getting a glimpse into their spiritual side after learning about their history.
One thing to remember is that you can't take videos or pictures inside the museum. Even though you can't capture it on your camera, it helps keep the museum a quiet and thoughtful place. Sometimes, it's nice to just look and enjoy without worrying about taking pictures.
So, Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is like a little adventure into Tibet's past. It's not just a museum; it's a place where you can feel the history and spirituality of Tibet. Even though you can't take pictures, the memories you make there will be like little treasures you carry with you.

This Buddhist temple, was built in 1840, and is a popular attraction in Sikkim. It consists of many colourful buildings set on a ridge overlooking the city of Gangtok. The name Enchey Monastery means 'the solitary temple' and it belongs to the Nyingma Order of Tibetan Buddhism. There are several caves, a waterfall, lots of greenery and recreation activities available nearby.
Sikkim is the home to some of the most stunning & spectacular monasteries in India. One such monastery is the Enchey Monastery, situated near the capital city of Gangtok. Gangtok, a then-modest village, was surrounded by a monastery that eventually became a centre of religion.

It is one of Sikkim's oldest monasteries.

Ganesh Tok is a small temple with viewpoint in Gangtok. Situated on top of a hill, the quaint place has mind-stirring views - the Kanchenjunga hill can be seen in its true form of glory from here and is at its best especially in the morning. The temple (dedicated to Lord Ganesh) is, however, so small that it can only fit one person at a time.
Colourful flags are tied across the stairs making it stand out. There is a place where shoes can be kept safe, and hands can be washed before entering the temple. There is also a lounge and a balcony in front of the temple which is the main attraction of the place.
Hanuman Tok, dedicated to Lord Hanuman is situated near Ganesh Tok at an altitude of 7200 feet and offers an amazing view of the Kanchenjunga range. The temple has a religious significance attached to it and offers a peaceful surrounding. It is known for fulfilling the wishes of its devotees. The Do Drul Chorten Buddhist temple is one of the most iconic sights in Gangtok, and is said to be able to drive away evil spirits. The temple features an elaborate, golden-domed stupa, elaborate shrines and carved prayer wheels.
It's a calm and spiritually uplifting place where you can hear the chanting of the monks and take a round inside the monastery too; but photography is not allowed there. The Paljor Stadium, originally known as Palzor Stadium was initially built to serve as a Polo ground. But after the Independence, it was converted to a football stadium. The stadium is currently home to United Sikkim Football Club and has a seating capacity of 25,000 people! 2001 saw the stadium grow to its best as it embraced modern amenities and included a VIP section, Hostel accommodation and an indoor Basketball hall among many other additions. The Palzor Stadium is also popularly known as Polo Ground. Chogyal names it around because Britishers and few members of aristocratic family of Sikkim played at this ground. While tracing the history of Palzor Stadium, it is very difficult to ascertain its origin. Palzor Stadium, is a football stadium located in Gangtok, Sikkim, India. The stadium is currently home to Sikkim Premier Division League clubs. It holds 30,000 people. Every year during Aug-Sep, the Governor Cup is held here and you get to see a lot of activities here. Another landmark in the city, which one must visit for a leisurely morning or evening walk to see a crowd of people of all ages scattered throughout the field engaged in exercises and sports activities.
The old timers recall this flat piece of land being used by the Tibetan traders to station their herds of sheep en route to the Sikkim and India. The ground hosts Independence day ad Republic day celebrations and also all major atheistic events.
It was on 24 July 1998 that a High Power state Committee constituted by the government took a decision to upgrade and renovate the existing Palzor Stadium. he modern look of the stadium was designed by M/S Architect Consultant Pvt. Ltd., Kolkata and its execution was assigned to Civil Engineers Enterprise Ltd. Kolkata.
The ultra-modern Palzor Stadium was inaugurated by Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the President of India on 22 September 2005 in the presence of the Governor of Sikkim and Dr. Pawan Chamling, Chief Minister of Sikkim.

On a good clear day, you can see the Himalayas, esp Kanchenjhanga. We went around 11:15am in mid-March, and while you can see the mountains, it was too bright to get good photos. So maybe going between sunrise and 9am or around sunset would be a better idea.
For just Rs.10 per person entry fee, you can climb higher and get a better view. We carried our own binoculars. There's a guy who stands with a telescope/binoculars if you want closeup views.
While the viewpoint is great, businesses inside it make customer experience tiresome. I'm not saying people shouldn't make a living off the tourists, but a persistent sales pitch isn't something I enjoy.

In the heart of the Eastern Himalayas, where every twist in the road reveals a new facet of nature's grandeur, Tashi View Point emerges as a celestial balcony offering a panoramic spectacle that transcends the ordinary. My recent sojourn to this elevated sanctuary left me mesmerized, as Tashi View Point unfolded its treasures – a breathtaking vista of snow-clad peaks, lush valleys, and the serene charm of Sikkim's capital city, Gangtok.
Tashi View Point is renowned for its sunrise spectacle, and it certainly lives up to its reputation. As the first rays of the sun caress the peaks, the Himalayan giants blush in hues of pink and gold. The transition from darkness to light is a poetic dance that captivates the onlooker, and I found myself utterly immersed in this celestial performance. The tranquil valley below gradually awakens, revealing the patchwork of terraced fields and quaint Sikkimese settlements.
For enthusiasts of avian wonders, Tashi View Point offers a delightful surprise. The surrounding forests and hills are home to a variety of Himalayan birds, from colorful sunbirds to elusive eagles. The rhythmic chirping and melodious calls create a natural symphony that enhances the peaceful ambiance of the viewpoint. Birdwatchers can find solace in observing these winged inhabitants against the backdrop of the majestic Himalayas.
In conclusion, Tashi View Point in Sikkim is more than a mere viewpoint; it's a sanctuary of serenity and spectacle. The unparalleled views of the Himalayas, the cultural echoes, and the botanical richness make it a destination that transcends the boundaries of ordinary travel. Tashi View Point invites travelers to pause, breathe in the crisp mountain air, and immerse themselves in the timeless beauty of the Eastern Himalayas. It's a haven where nature's grandeur meets cultural richness, creating an experience that lingers in the heart long after the journey is over.

=> At the top, you will find a restaurant where you can try Momos and Maggie.
=> Since the view point is having limited space, it mostly remains very crowded during the day and hence it is advised to visit either in the early morning or at the time of sunset.
=> Activities that can be done here:

**Get yourself clicked in a traditional Sikkimese attire;

We visited this monastery during our trip to Gangtok. This peace is so peaceful and calm, you'll feel very happy and relaxed. Inside the monastery is a beautifully decorated Large hall, though photography is not allowed there. The outside region has a beautiful view, too. There is also a prayer wheel. Overall nice experience 😊❤️

A beautiful place located on the outskirts of Gangtok. Best time to visit is during the early morning hours, when it is less crowded. You can sit inside and enjoy the silence.
The outer wall offers a stunning view of the surrounding areas from the top. In the evenings you can observe the monks having their daily rituals outside.
The place is spacious and clean, washroom and drinking water facilities are available.

My recent visit to Gonjang Monastery was an absolute delight, and it left me with a profound sense of peace and tranquility. This hidden gem tucked away in the serene hillsides of Sikkim truly exceeded all my expectations.
From the moment I set foot inside the monastery, I was struck by the captivating beauty of its architecture and the surrounding natural landscape. The monastery's traditional Tibetan design, adorned with vibrant colors and intricate details, was a feast for the eyes. The peaceful ambiance and the backdrop of lush green hills made it a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
I cannot speak highly enough of the monastery's dedication to cleanliness and upkeep. Everything, from the prayer wheels to the meditation spaces, was immaculate, creating an environment that encouraged reflection and inner peace.
In conclusion, Gonjang Monastery is a must-visit destination for anyone seeking solace and a deeper understanding of Tibetan Buddhism. The monastery's stunning architecture, welcoming monks, and pristine surroundings make it an unforgettable experience. My visit left me spiritually enriched and deeply grateful for the opportunity to explore this hidden treasure in the Himalayas.

=> This beautiful destination was also included in our itinerary for the Gangtok local sightseeing.
=> It is located at Fatak Bojhogari near Tashi Viewpoint around 8km from Gangtok.
=> This was one of the most popular & beautiful monasteries of Gangtok located at an height of 6066 feet.
=> Owing to its high altitude, the panoramic valley and lush green hills just in front of the Monastery gives a breathtaking view.
=> Photography was not allowed inside the Monastery but as a few of the tourists capturing photos inside, I also followed them.
=> Its traditional Tibetan Buddhist design beautified with the vibrant colors was pleasant.
=> It is a perfect blend of tranquility and spirituality.
=> Try to establish a dipper connection with spirituality by spinning the prayer wheels.
=> Entry Fee: 10Rs.

Like all monasteries, beautiful colorful temple vibes and a big open area in front of the Monastery with colored flags proudly sverwing in the air. The views of the mountains from the Monastery are exquisite and breath taking. Monk housing adjoining to the praying area. The space inside the main temple is relatively small compared to other places I have been to.

This is the religious place buddhism 🙏
To visit them all in three days would be rushed. The best is to spend some time in each monastery, see also the museum (e.g. Matho, Stok) and avoid the commercialized Hemis. From the taxi stand in leh you can book a taxi to see two or three monasteries in one day. The drivers have a tariff card, so you do not have to bargain. They wait patiently one or two hours for you to finalize your visit.
Scenes are very beautiful 😍
Atmosphere good.
Calm and peaceful place😍

Lovely place with a.lot of young monks in residence, some of who were playing soccer in the open space in front of the temple.
The temple itself is beautiful with very elaborate paintings on the walls and ceilings and amazing statues of padmasambhava and the buddha

Lake Menmecho, also known as Elephant Lake or Kupup Lake, is a picturesque mountain lake situated at the source of Rangpo Chu River. It is famous for its trout population and is located just 20 minutes away from Tsomgo lake. The lake's water has a stunning blue color that resembles the sky. Despite being under-maintained by defense forces, foreigners are not allowed to visit this place.
Just beautiful. This lake also known by kupup/Elephant lake. This Place is fully under maintained by defense forces. Foreigners are not allowed. This is second attempt, first time due to heavy snow fall we couldn't reached.

Also known as Elephant Lake which is in between to route between Nathula Pass and old Baba Harbhajan Mandir.
The lake is very beautiful and less visited compared to all the other places in Sikkim. So, if you planned to visit old baba mandir then take a halt here and visit the mesmerizing beauty and get clicked.

Beautiful lake surrounded by mountain, shaped like an elephant. It's can be reached from Gangtok via New Baba mandir or from Nathang valley side. High altitude lake, you will like to stop and spend some time here.

The photo below is of the Menmecho lake. While onward to the new Baba Mandir, we went past this lake. Excellent, breathtaking beauty!!!! The water was just as blue as the sky. Took the snap from the car. The lake is just 20 minutes from Tsomgo lake.
The location here map isn't correct. It's much before the new Baba Mandir.

This is neither Menmecho Lake nor Elephant Lake. This is called Batang Chu. It’s amazing how anyone can put anything on google map. Menmecho Lake is further westwards down from Baba Mandir. And Elephant Lake is just a name given to Batang Chu by the armed forces to dilute the local culture and heritage!!!!
