It was really a worthwhile visit to the light house...loved the view from the light house and also to see such a historic monument. It's well maintained. And the visit time is from 10 am to 1.00 pm and 2.00 pm till 6.00 pm. There is a basic ticket rate of Rs. 20 for adults and Rs. 10 for children, Senior citizens Rs. 10 and foreign nationals Rs.50. The famous Thangassery Lighthouse, which can be seen rising up majestically above the coconut palms. The cylindrical lighthouse tower is painted in catchy red and white oblique bands.
Visitors can enjoy the glorious sun setting over the Arabian Sea as they drive down on the Lighthouse road. The Thangassery beach Lighthouse was built about 120 years ago to guide fishermen and sailors along the reef-riddled coastal waters. Its beacon can be seen up to 20km out at sea.
Visitors are allowed to climb to the top of the 140feet high Thangassery lighthouse tower.
A lift is available up to 3/4 of the tower and rest of the tower is reachable with narrow and steep steps. The spectacular 360 degrees panoramic view of the Arabian Sea and splendor of the backwaters and Kollam city is a treat to the eyes.

Entry time: 10 am to 6 pm
Entry fees: Rs. 20 for adults. Rs. 10 for children. Extra fees for mobile and camera photography.
We parked outside as we did not see any dedicated parking space.
You can reach the top of the lighthouse either by climbing stairs or taking the lift. Usually you'll have to wait 5-10 min in a queue to get into the lift.
At the top, you get an exhilarating view of the coastline, the harbour and the distant sea. You feel at peace, gazing at waves crashing on the shoreline, and the cool sea breeze brushing against your face, before the watchman shoos you and tells you to keep moving.

Thangassery light house is a wonderful place to spend during evening time. The ticket fair is 20 rupees per head for adults and 10 rs per head for kids. Monday holiday.
I went during evening time and had a very good experience. Everyone is allowed to stay on the top of the lighthouse for 10-15 minutes (may vary according to the crowd during your day of visit).
On the top of the lighthouse, the view is a must experience one. The view facing the sea is wonderful.
There is a small kids park at the feet of the lighthouse.
In front of the lighthouse there is a 2 km pathway through the sea. The ticket fair is 10-20 per head. The pathway is a very photogenic place.
If possible add Thangassery lighthouse to your travel plan in kollam.

I recently had the opportunity to visit the Lighthouse, and I must say it was a truly unforgettable experience. Nestled along the breathtaking coastline, this lighthouse offers a unique combination of beauty and thrill that is hard to find elsewhere. Here's my review of the Lighthouse:
First and foremost, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the Lighthouse had a lift facility. This made the journey to the top much more accessible and convenient for visitors of all ages and physical abilities. The presence of a lift ensures that even those who may struggle with climbing stairs can still enjoy the panoramic views from the lighthouse.
I highly recommend visiting the Lighthouse during the evening hours. Not only does it provide a stunning backdrop for capturing memorable photos, but it also offers a respite from the scorching daytime heat. The cooler weather adds to the overall pleasant experience, allowing visitors to explore the lighthouse comfortably.
While the Lighthouse's top observation area may have limited space, this in no way diminishes the awe-inspiring view that awaits you. As you ascend to the summit, the anticipation builds, and once you reach the top, you're greeted by sweeping vistas of the surrounding coastline. The unobstructed views of the shimmering sea and the rugged cliffs are simply breathtaking, making the climb well worth the effort.
However, I must warn you that climbing the Lighthouse can be a somewhat intimidating experience. The narrow staircases and steep steps add an element of excitement and adventure, but they may also evoke a sense of fear, especially for those with a fear of heights. If you're up for a thrilling challenge, climbing the Lighthouse will surely get your heart racing.
Overall, my visit to the Lighthouse was a delightful and unforgettable experience. The combination of the lift facility, the cool evening weather, and the awe-inspiring views made it a must-visit attraction. Whether you're seeking a scenic adventure or simply want to soak in the beauty of the coastline, the Lighthouse offers an enchanting experience that will leave you in awe.
I highly recommend visiting the Lighthouse, but do remember to check the operating hours and plan your visit accordingly. Enjoy the beautiful vistas and embrace the thrill of climbing to the top

Tangasseri Lighthouse or Thangassery Lighthouse is situated at Tangasseri in Kollam city of the Indian state of Kerala.
They charge(cost) around ₹10/person for going to light house and it opens from 10Am to 5PM.
The coastal views for the top of light house are amazing you should try once.
Also from the seaside you can watch the sunset extremely pleasing.
You can also see the waves crashing at the rocks nearby at the seashore.
You can go there from Kollam Railway station by an auto from there. As such no bus service directly to that place.

Thangassery Light House is a must-visit attraction in Kollam, Kerala. The lighthouse is a signature of Thangassery and offers a breathtaking view of the breakwater and small fishing harbor. The fishing boats here are very colorful and so are the houses we see from here. There is a lift that takes you most of the way up, but if you don’t need one, I would recommend walking up the steps and spending time at the windows. The lighthouse is well-maintained and the old equipment is well-preserved and taken care of.

Palaruvi Waterfalls is a picturesque destination with a scenic view of water cascading down the cliffs. A walkway leads to a viewing platform and picnic areas, though it can get crowded at times. Visitors have to pay 50 rupees per head for the bus ride to reach the waterfall, with an equal charge for parking. The site requires climbing some stairs to get closer to the waterfall, but currently, its bathing location is under renovation.
Check between June and mid-October for the finest experience. Please take note that admittance closes at 4.30 p.m. There is no parking for personal automobiles inside. The forest bus pass, which is accessible at the counter, must be obtained, taking a 15–minute bus ride. You can obtain a close look of the falls by walking upward for 5–10 minutes Enjoy the natural shower because there are changing rooms accessible. The swimming and bathing area is under restoration and is not close to the waterfall.

Palaruvi waterfalls was an amazing experience.
We went there from Tamil Nadu. Buses were easily available that went directly to the waterfalls stop. We didn’t know Malayalam but somehow managed to communicate in English with the forest rangers who were very helpful.
Private vehicles are not allowed beyond the entry point.
A shuttle bus is provided which takes us to the waterfalls.
The ticket price is 70₹ per person.
The way to the waterfalls is quite scenic.
Coming to the waterfalls itself , there are changing rooms available for ladies and separate places for families and men.
You can get into the water where you can enjoy as much as possible. There are rangers everywhere for safety. The place is very clean and the rangers continuously keep it clean and tidy.
I must say this is one of the best tourist spots I have visited and I am giving it a 5 star.

Wow! Very Nice place and Waterfalls. Palaruvi gave us such a good experience that we thought we had not been here for so many days. Looking at this place it seemed that the Kerala tourism department has maintained it in a very beautiful way. When we went, the water was rushing very fast in the waterfall. It is a very beautiful moment.. It is a very beautiful place to see and enjoy..We came as friends and decided that next time we should bring everyone with family..Only one hour is allowed. However, isn't an hour enough in that beautiful place? That is the only minor disappointment but everything else is very beautiful..

Palaruvi is under the maintenance of the kerala government. It has parking facilities. We have to park our vehicles beast the ticket counter area and from there we’ll be taken to the falls through their bus. Once we reach there we can have coffee or snacks in their canteen . From there we need to walk some steps to have a bath in palaruvi waterfalls. As the steps are of rocks it might be hard for old people but during our visit I saw many old people climbed it effortlessly. So they can take rest in middle and reach the falls. There is a dressing room for women which is quite neat. So ladies can use them but must have the belongings safe as there are monkeys around .

Falls in the middle of Kerala forest is well maintained and clean, strict rules are enforced about not throwing plastic and waste about, which is a good initiative. Few pointers
1. You need to take only the local forest bus up to the falls so you need to buy tickets. During the day, queues can be quite long. So go early or ensure one person from your group stands in line before another buys the tickets
2. There is a small cafe where the bus drops you off near the falls. Limited items available. You may have a long wait before you are able to actually get what you paid for.
3. The walk up to the falls and even down to the bathing area is very uneven and slippery at times, so be careful while walking.
4. The view point at the top is beautiful, although a very steep walk ahead
5. There is a changing room for the women, which is a huge plus point.
6. If visiting during day, advised to carry enough water and small snacks while you wait to get on the bus.
7. Treat people with respect! And don’t be a nuisance!
Beautiful views, nice memories to create 😀 worth the visit if you’re up to quite a hike.

This is one of the best waterfall I have seen in South India. Ample of parking space available that to inside the jungle. You have to take the entry ticket and then you have to get inside the government bus which will take you to the waterfall which is approximately 3-4 km from parking. When we went there there was heavy water flow which was mesmerizing. but the bathing area is little small so that in case of heavy crowd they will allow only for 1 hour for one group.. beware of the monkees out there..

There are 4 buses taking to the water falls. The entry fee is Rs 50 per person and parking cost Rs 50 for car. Overall great experience and good place to visit.

Milk flowing from up the sky, palaruvi waterfalls literally give this feel. From the ticket counter to the waterfall it's 4 km distance. Only 4 buses operated by the forest department commutes the visitors to and fro the waterfalls located at a pretty good height up in the mountains. 70 rupees per head is the charge plus 60 rupees for car parking. Keeping water bottles handy will be useful. There is only one small tea and snacks cafe operated by the Kerala Forest department staffs which is crowded usually and takes time to fetch a small cup of tea or banana fry like snacks. Those who come prepared to take a shower in the waters flowing from the falls can enjoy amidst the crowds. The falls go fully functional only during steady rainy season. It takes minimum 1hr 20 minutes to just see take pictures and come back from, including the waiting time to board the bus.

Palaruvi is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Kollam district. I reached around 3 pm, the place was pretty crowded because of the holiday. The view from the top of the small rock cascade is serene and the water is so cool. You can bathe under the waterfall if the water level is low. The rock in the down can be a bit slippery as well.
To reach here, you can use, public transportation or a Pvt vehicle. The ticket will cost around 75 rs per person. Palaruvi is located 4km from the ticket counter, so they offer a small bus ride, inside the forest, that's wonderful to go through.
The best time of the season is after the monsoons and avoid dry seasons. If you want to bathe, consider taking towels because I didn't see many souvenir places around.

Palaruvi is one of the best waterfalls in kerala the name of the waterfall is 100 percent suited for the view of this waterfall. The water flowing looks like milk falling from the top. Palaruvi is situated 4-5 km inside of the main road. There is a lot of parking space in the jungle near the parking space there is a ticket counter. We can pay and collect the tickets from the counter and wait for their bus for 10-20 minutes. They don't allow our own vehicle to reach the waterfall they provide government buses for transportation. The waterfall is 3-4 km away from the parking space. The water flow rate is low because we went there in february first week which is not a rainy season. In rainy season the water flows rate increases and there is a rush occurs due to the visitors. There are 3 bathing spaces allotted for family, gents and ladies. Beware of the slippery rocks and monkeys both are dangerous in some situations.

You have to go to the top of the mountain to see them. There is rope car service available or you can go by walk. The rope way is good to experience. There is Bhagwan Ram's footprint preserved here. At the top you will get beautiful views and cold air blowing. You can have quick bites here at reasonable prices. Overall it's a must have experience if you are visiting Kerala, we loved it very much.

Best place with pleasant and peaceful surroundings. Well and clean maintained. Recommend to visit bit a early in the morning. We have a good viewpoint. Have the option to take a ride in a rope car, or we have around 800 steps where we take around 30-45 minutes to climb up and around 15-20 minutes to climb down. We have a Rama temple up there and canteen for snacks or food. Plastics items and food are strictly prohibited.

Very beautiful place and must visit. Kindly reach before 12pm to have darshan of lord rama at the top of hill. Go by cable car as you can enjoy ride and view. Going by steps to hill during sunny day is not recommended.

Good place for people who enjoys short treks, but opening times starts from 09:30 AM so its Sunny and very hot during Summer.
There are 2 ways Cable Car and Walkway with around 863 steps (1KM) which are almost the same price with separate entry fee again for both the ways.
Water bottles (Plastic containers) are not allowed but there is no sign of this information at the entry. Only during security check they are informing this and refraining the bottles to carry.
Entry time atleast around 7AM could be suitable for the trek during the hot weather.

"Visited Jatayu Earth's Center, home to the majestic concrete sculpture of Jatayu, a symbol of women's safety and honor.
The place exudes serenity, with pristine surroundings and ample drinking water facilities.
Perfect for a family outing, especially with parents, offering trekking options amidst breathtaking views.
Although the helicopter service was temporarily suspended due to Covid, the experience was still unforgettable.
Highly recommend for a memorable visit in Kerala, capturing stunning photos and cherishing the tranquility."

Kollam Beach is a bustling location for strolls, weddings, and fishing boats. It features a prominent lighthouse and adjacent park. This beach is considered one of the finest in Kollam offering a peaceful atmosphere with plenty of ice cream shops to visit. Visitors can walk along the beach or fly kites purchased nearby, though it can get crowded during holidays.
incredibly clear and clean beach. It is not a dirty sand. People will visit and appreciate this location from all walks of life. Reasonably priced are the small restaurants in the middle and along the road. The deeper the water, only a few metres from the edge, the less favourable the conditions are. There are powerful currents. Where the beach extends farther into the sea, play cautiously. We appreciate how well the Kollam community uses this public space. This was one of the nicest sunsets I've ever seen.
MG Park was a children's park located directly across from it. It is also a great place for families with children. Each entry cost is 10₹. Snacks and rides have separate prices inside.
A must-see, highly recommended location!

A clean beach frequented by locals more than tourists. The beach is very lively during evenings especially on weekends.Entering the water is strictly prohibited. Life guards won't let you venture beyond a particular point. There are shacks selling quick bites which are worth trying. This beach is nice. It is usually very crowded. Flying kites is a main activity here. There are a lot of kites available. It's fun here. Nice place to enjoy the sunset too. I prefer visiting this beach after around 4.30 in the evening. There are few vendors. Icecreams, juices and some snacks are available. It is risky to go too deep into the sea, so there are guards at the beach. The beach needs to be little more clean though. Overall, it is good.

Very clean and clear beach. The sand is not polluted. People from all walks of life will come and enjoy this spot. Small eateries all along the road and in the middle are reasonable.
The more important…. The waters are good, but it is deep in just meters from edge. The currents are strong. Play safely where the sand appears for a longer stretch into the sea.
Thanks to the Kollam people for using this public place so neatly.

A great spot to spend your sunset for those who visit Kollam. The attractions include a swing tied between two coconut trees, a sandy beach, a walk along the rock barrier along the beach to see the beautiful sun setting down the Arabian Sea. One can also catch a glimpse of the famous lighthouse from here. The lucky ones will also enjoy the strong breeze which sometimes makes you wonder if you are going to fly away.
Just before the sunset, this place is perfect for siestas. There is a kids playground too. And a lot of benches to sleep. There is a statue of Gandhi without spectacles which enhances the serene mood one finds here.

largest freshwater lake in Kerala, it has been a popular destination for travellers. Sasthamkotta is home to the historic Sastha temple. The abundance of additional smaller bodies of water and wet areas makes this area a haven for different species of waterbirds. The lake is also rich in freshwater fish. The lake is a source of drinking water for the 500,000 inhabitants of Kollam district as well. The presence of cavaborus larvae which consumes bacteria in the lake accounts for its being regarded as safe for drinking.
The lake has been recognised since November 2002 as a wetland of international significance by the Ramsar Convention. Visitors who come to the lake are devotees who visit the Sastha temple. For visitors, it is a time of introspection and an opportunity to connect with nature, as they feed the monkeys and fish. Dharmasastha, another name for Lord Ayyappa, is believed to have a loyal retinue of monkeys. Rowboat rentals are available too – a must to appreciate the lake's breathtaking magnificence in its entirety.
