The Nano Nagle Place heritage museum tells the story of an 18th-century nun who fought to educate the poor and is now preserved as a tranquil oasis of beauty. The museum features exhibits on the nun's life and work, as well as beautiful gardens. It is perfect for a relaxing afternoon or evening out.
We really enjoyed our visit to this gem. Really friendly, informative and helpful staff. A wonderful museum area which tells the story of the beginnings of school education in Cork city. Peaceful gardens and a great coffee shop. Amazing value. Really worth a visit!

Nano Nagle devoted herself to religion and helped and educated the poor, Catholic girls and boys more than 200 years ago when the Penal Law was employed. Her work and the Presentation Sisters deserved more attention and respect.

Our first visit to Cork. This was the highlight of our stay. The museum is lovely. The restaurant was bonus (with excellent food & wine). Agnes, the "Ambassador" for the museum, would be my new best friend if I ever moved to your beautiful city! Her passion for Nano, the incredible "inside tour" and token gift she gave me, made a memory I will never forget. I knew nothing about the amazing Nano Nagle before visiting, but I know hold her dear to my heart and even have a print of her in my office. Thank you for putting together such a beautiful place (architecturally, it is a great site to visit in of itself). The other staff were also very helpful and friendly. 5 star visit!

The friendliest museum I have ever been to. I was greeted by ambassador Agnes, who lives and breathes the heritage of Nano Nagle and the museum. Be inspired by the story of Nano Nagle, that provided education for Catholic children in a time where it was forbidden. And enjoy the lovely peaceful garden in the middle of the city. Just what I needed on a Sunday morning.

Cannot believe it has taken me so long to visit this fantastic oasis of calm in my native city. Immaculately preserved and presented buildings, cemetery and gardens. Museum, bookshop, café and restaurant on site. Entrance is free of charge. Well worth a visit as it is only a short walk from St. Finbarre's cathedral. Parking extremely limited....so leave the car at home.

Pleasant surprise stumbling across this peaceful spot in the middle of Cork city. We were greeted by a very friendly and informative worker. Didn’t take the paid tour, but enjoyed just walking around the grounds. Will have to return to try the little restaurant someday. Few people just relaxing and talking, and a couple others that looked like they were also there for the first time. I’m not sure I’d say it’s a must do if visiting Cork, but if you are here for an extended period of time, definitely check it out.

Nano Nagle Place is a unique complex in the heart of Cork city. The place has a museum, heritage rooms, gardens, the Good Day Deli, both a design and gift shop, and a Cork focused book shop in the museum. The gorgeous regenerated convent buildings are home to many educational charities. I advise anyone who hasn't been there to go there. Visiting this place is a magical experience as it retains a balance of cultural history and a modern green walkway.

A beautiful hub of knowledge complete with a museum and gift store with quaint and cute little handcrafted and artisan things. Has a beautiful garden tea shop/cafe. Even if you don’t go to the museum, this is still worth a visit because of the natural gardens and the crocheted flower garden. A work of art!

We visited on Friday and had a wonderful guided tour with Agnes. I would highly recommend doing the tour as you learn so much more and get the human side of the stories. Agnes was a great guide, she had a really soothing cork lilt. It almost felt like asmr sitting in the sun hearing her tell the story of Nano Nagle.
The gift shop and book shop are fabulous, filled with jewellery, homewares from Irish designers.
Overall definitely worth a visit and they have lifts on site so great accessibility

Nano Nagle was a wonderful treasure we happened upon. Agnes and Tatiana were lovely to chat with and the museum was absolutely beautiful! Definitely recommend a visit during your stay in Cork!
Spike Island is a small island in Cork Harbour, historically significant for its role as a monastic settlement and later as a prison. The island is also home to the 200-year-old Fort Mitchel, which served as an important prison holding over 2300 prisoners during the Irish War of Independence and from 1984 to 2004. Today, visitors can enjoy a guided walking tour of the former prison buildings before exploring on their own.
October 2022: we ended up going to Spike Island on the recommendation from our BnB host. We had a great time on the ferry over, and the tour was informative without being overdone. The island itself has lots of information on placards, and if you’re not into going into the prison there’s lots of lovely walks outside. We found lots of berry bushes and little goats. Be sure to dress for the weather; we started the day with sun and a bit of wind, and throughout the day the wind picked up and we ended up in a cold rainstorm. Since this was at the end of tourism season, we made sure to pack a small picnic as the tour lasts an entire day and the small café on the island was closed.

Good place to spend 3 hours of time. It started with a 10 minutes boat ride from Cobh to Spike Island. There will be a free guided tour for 40 minutes in which they will explain why this fort was built and how it was used during British and Irish. After the short introduction we have a option to take a trail outside the prison which will take 30 minutes max and then rest of the time you can spend inside seeing the history of the prison. You can see different types of guns used for defense, different weapons and dresses used by military people. Also you can experience the dark room which was used a punishment cell during British era and modern prison also. Overall it is good place to visit once and learn about the history.

Loved this tour. Amazing views of Cobh on the way out to and back from Spike Island. Our tour guide was great, gave us lots of interesting information about the area and Spike Island itself. Would highly recommend this to anyone visiting Cobh. You'll be on the Island for just over 3 hours which I felt was a bit too long. But still a well-deserved 4 stars.

Great tour of a very interesting place. Could easily have spent another couple of hours at the various exhibits especially the independence display. Our guide John G was very knowledgeable and friendly and was more than happy to answer any questions or to him. Nice boat journey between Cobh and the island too.

A place I would highly recommend visiting. Full of History, the tour we had allowed for 3hrs on spike island however that time flies and 3 hours just doesn't seem long enough , we stayed for a bit of a guided tour to get some of the history of the place.

The Island is picturesque and has a rich history. We visited with our 1 year old baby and found the facilities there fantastic. It’s a must see place in cork.

Very interesting place with an interesting atmosphere.
Best to visit when not too windy and ideally not raining.
The tour takes ~3h, and it's enough time to see almost everything.
Restaurant is a bit expensive (as you may expect) and food could be much better for the price (better than nothing) Overall, interesting place and would recommend to visit.

Spike Island was an amazing piece of history. We had the best guide call Rob from spike island tours. He was knowledgeable and it was very informative. It was a lovely experience going over on the boat, then being able to walk freely around the island.

Great place to visit. Full of history. I would advise following along with the walking tour. Our guide was Karl, he was very well versed in the history of the island and had a very pleasant demeanor which is great to see from a guide. The walking tour is about an hour which leaves a further two hours to explore on your own as well. The time flies which is always a good sign.

Fascinating place absolutely packed with history. The boat ride over only takes around 10-15 mins. It was a very smooth journey on the day we went. The island has literally hundreds of years of history all built on top of each other. When you get off the boat the guide gives you some options including to stay with him and walk up to the gates with a guided tour by him on some of the history. 100% do this! It only takes about half an hour and is a great introduction. Some people rushed on in and missed all of it.... there is a one way system around the fort which works well in guiding you where to go next. Make sure to walk around the coastal paths of the island too. It doesn’t take long and the views are incredible out into the bay where Titanic was once moored. There is a small gift shop too upon exciting the fort. A great experience and one of my favourites on our trip to Cobh. Amazing value for the price!
The Ballycotton Cliff Walk is a stunning path with fantastic views of the ocean. It is perfect for a walk or run, and is also a great place to take photos and enjoy the fresh air. The path is well maintained, and it is easy to follow.
We walked all along the cliffs and along the bird trail , saw a few seals and amazing coves and views along the way.
The path is easy to follow and there is parking about 250m from where trail starts. It is quite safe , path is stable and warning signs where you should not venture to close to the edge.
It's an easy walk , pretty flat and we walked for an hour and had not reached the end. We stopped for quite a few photo stops. We saw many walkers including young children so it is quite safe and can be a family outing

Nice and easy walk for all. Nothing too fancy but worth the trip. Worth picking a nice day so the ground isn't too wet. Good set up at the start with plenty of parking. There are some nice places to stop and sit if needed and areas where you can pop down to the beach area and have a picnic.

Did the entire walk from Ballycotton to Ballyandreen. It’s just amazing and so scenic. Really beautiful. But not recommended to do it on a rainy or even wet day because the mud is heavy and can be dangerous. I’d recommend to always wear appropriate shoes to reduce risk of getting hurt.

This was a great hike! Because we had to wait for lost luggage from Air France (not a fan!) We did the hike the day after it was sunny. Even with the rain, the hike was beautiful! Wear comfortable hiking shoes (weather proof/goretex if it's raining). The views were all amazing and you should try to make it to the stranded shipwreck!

Haven't completed the whole walk yet but from what I have done I can say it is nothing short of amazing. Also, on my travels I stumbled upon my new favourite beach in Ireland, which I never expected to happen as I initially thought it was just cliffs. The beach here is beautiful and the locals were super friendly. Could not recommend this place more 💚

From a visually breathtaking experience, I couldn't find it more picturesque. The foot path could use a bit more rocks to help with the mud as it can be quite muddy and slippery.

A stunning trip! Also suitable for children. A stunning route along the sea, on the cliff. Lots of blooms all around. We took the circular blue route and went down through the village, it was long and not so comfortable. It is better to return on the same route on the cliff.
Don't miss going down to the beach, it's fun to go there with the kids too.
Jenya Gashinov — Google review
This cliff walk offers great views and it has 4-5 different circuits to choose with for a walk based on the distances. It has seats on its way at different intervals for a break if needed. The walk way is slippery so a good gripped and comfortable boots is a must. This cliff walk is good one for kids and with pets but with extreme caution. The cliff walk has car parks in 3 different places. It doesn’t have a public toilet. The view of light house and the sea is fantastic. There is a beach on its way to have a nice break. The sunrise and sunset views are amazing here. It’s a great place with tables on it’s entrance for a short break and a snack/coffee. It never fails to amaze us in our every trip.

Went during weekday, so there wasn't much crowd.
1) There is one parking which is near to the entrance but only few cars can be parked there. Another car park about 150 meters from the entrance. We can park there also. No parking fee
2) There are no restroom.
3) The entire walk down the cliff is easy and you can reach the end in 40 minutes and there will be small beach where you can swim.
4) You can't use strollers or wheel chair.
5) There are few restaurants in the town to get the food.
6) There were many kids who were walking so it is okay for kids also.
7) They have placed many chairs where we can sit and enjoy the view.

Camden Fort Meagher is an ancient coastal artillery fort in Ireland which played a key role in defending the country and its shipping against attack. The fort is now a popular tourist destination, with visitors able to explore its deserted ramparts and craggy stone walls.

Fitzgerald Park is a beautiful green space in the middle of Cork that has been enjoyed by locals for over 100 years. The park is 18 acres and features a variety of statues, gardens, and pathways. It's perfect for a relaxing walk or to visit the Cork Museum. Kids love the playground, and adults love its variety of sculptures.
A beautifully kept public park. Neat, tidy and home to Cork public museum. An 18 acre, large city centre attraction, you should definitely pay this park a visit. If you are looking for a peaceful stroll by the river, a wild session in an ultra modern playground, a relaxing picnic or a game of football with the kids, this is the place for you. We love this park! Live outside of Cork and will sometimes ride in to enjoy it. It is the perfect green space for Cork city. Plenty of flat green area with paved sidewalks to ride bikes or scooters. Nothing too huge in terms of fields for sports but there is enough for a game of frisbee or soccer. There’s a great playground as well as a museum and some statues on premises. I wouldn’t say it is a “must see” of Cork, but if you are in town for a few days, would check it out especially on a nice sunny day.

The park was on our way from Cork City Gaol Museum to University College Cork. We didn’t know that the park was famous. The park is not big enough since it is in a residential area. Its uniqueness is its existence on the brink of the river.

I love the park! It's a good walk to get to it, and you have options for paths by the bandstand, past the kids playground, or by the river and rose garden. They have a great little cafe on site, plus the Governor's Pavilion has exhibits, there's plenty of concerts and other events, and you can walk over to the Shakey Bridge (not it's real name) to see if how much bounce it has! I was pretty underwhelmed by the English Market, as someone who generally enjoys going to markets as we travel. There's not much variety inside, and it seems like they've lost some of their vendors over the year. The market is predictably a little cramped, and you'll find yourself needing to push through people who are waiting/browsing stalls. We were hoping to find something for lunch, but couldn't find anything that looked worth our time.
There are multiple entrances to the market, none of which are prominently labeled. The market is a big rectangle, and there is an entrance about in the middle of each side/street.
Cork City Gaol is a restored nineteenth-century prison with exhibitions, night tours, and a souvenir shop. It is located 2km north of Patrick's Street in Cork. The castle-like building once housed 19th century prisoners, who got a fascinating insight into day-to-day life behind high walls that ensured no escape and denied law abiding citizens the opportunity to see one of Ireland's architectural treasures.
This is my second time visiting Cork Goal and would definitely recommend it. It brings a bit more of Irish history back to life and it is great to see how it evolved over time. Very educational.

It’s interesting, yes. Gives a unique experience of the times and the stories behind it. Lots of the jail is closed off, would be nice to be able to see some of this as the curated rooms are very clean and almost inviting (much like the jail would not have been).
Could be a little more gritty and real rather than manicured.
Also access to all the top floors were closed due to damage apparently so we didn’t get the great views. There was no eta on when they would be open again.
The staff however were absolutely fantastic.

Had a very good time at this historical site! It is well set up, the map with information they give you is great and the audio guide (for additional 2 euro) was somewhat beneficial but I found the pamphlet provided gave enough information if you want to save a bit of money. Would recommend!

I visited on a weekend and bought the ticket on site. You can purchase ticket with paper guide or they have audio guide as well. I went for the paper guide because it was cheaper and pretty much everything is written in the leaflet. They preserved the jail in 19th century and has prisoner’s name and statues in the rooms. It is described in the leaflet as well. If you love history, must visit. They have a little projector room when you reach the end. I was amused to read the prisoner’s story and to view how the jail looked like back then. In the first floor, they put something like a horror story with lights. I was pretty scared to look at it. I would recommend to visit the jail.

This was a pleasant surprise. My expectations were fairly low, but we’re exceeded. This is a very cool walk through an old structure that has a pretty rich history. There are life size figures throughout and a number of interactive audio visuals. There was a small gift shop with snacks etc in it. This is indoors and outdoors with staircases. It can be a bit chilly indoors as it is all stone. There are bathrooms inside. Fun place to check out if in Cork.

It’s a rather gloomy place, you realize this when, walking through the green courtyard and climbing the stairs, you see the dungeons of bondage. Joy comes that the prison was closed in 1929. The Radio Museum is interesting, this is the next page, bright, musical. It’s even a pity that this period has also ended.

I recently visited Cork City Gaol back in October of 2023 and I was not disappointed. I've been passing by this landmark site for years and always wondered what the tour was like so on a random Sunday in October we decided to visit!
The Staff:
The staff are very knowledgeable about the site and they are more than willing to answer any queries that you may have with their friendly nature!
The Tour:
You can book ahead or show up on the day. We chose to pay for our tickets at the front desk.
There is a couple of tour options to choose from as there is staff guided tour and two self guided tour options either with the use of a paper guide or an audio.
We went for the staff guided tour as we felt that it was worth it and the tour guide was full of information about the site.
The tour started off by bringing us through the Warden's quarters and giving a breif history about what it was like for the warden's family living at the jail. Then we were brought to the dubble sided prision wing which was once for the men. This wing has been renovated and preserved by the private owners of the site.
The tour will take you through the cell's here and they have various examples of life sized male and female prisioners that depict what conditions were like for the prisoners.
Some graffiti belonging to the prisoners has been preserved in some of the cells and is really interesting however, some people have since left their own graffiti in other cells damaging the 19th century masonry.
At the end of the tour there is a projector room and a room with a diorama representing what the jail once looked along with all of the various buildings that you can interact with.
Gift Shop:
There is a small gift shop in the main jail building selling snacks, drinks, books etc. but it is quite small.
Note:
This site is spread across a large area that will take you outdoors first and then indoors to the old prision so bringing a rain jacket is good idea.
The prision is a stone building and in October it was a little chilly indoors so having a warm fleece wouldn't go astray either.
Be prepaired for a number of staircases however, the tour moves at a slow pace so you won't be out of breath to keep up.
Overall Opinion:
Cork City Gaol is very interesting and I am glad I finally got a chance to see it.
The old structure is full of history and the tour is very informative and I think it does justice for this Cork City landmark!
It would be lovely if the state or the private owners might one day renovate and preserve the building in its entirety as well as some of the building out back for future generations to see and enjoy!

Visited on a hot day in July, and despite the walk in the heat up there due to road closure at the time, it was definitely worth it. It is great for young and old to take in the history of the Gaol.
Deniece Anthoney — Google review
Very interesting. Worth the 20m walk from city center. Self guided with audio 21 stations. You can see the outline of the original jail. It was circular until expanded to look more like Kilmainham. Exhibits give a good feel for what it must have been like.
Dennis Mooney — Google review
Great experience for all ages. Crazy to think children were held to the same standards as adults and were held for petty crimes. They’ve done a nice job restoring areas for the public to view.

This Gaol is from the 1800s and has a great self guided tour that shows the history of the Gaol and Cork city laws back in the 1800s. Parking is limited and is free outside the Gaol for upto 2 hours. Tour takes 30-45 min.
Glenview Gardens is a charming attraction that impresses visitors with its hobbit house, fairy displays, and animal enclosure. The owners' hard work and creativity are evident throughout the gardens, which feature high flowers and bushes dividing the space into different areas. Benches and seats are plentiful for those who want to sit down for a picnic or simply take in the lovely surroundings.
Magnificent place, great for families, lovely walk around it, lots of things to see and do including the hobbit house, beautiful gardens with access to a tea room and toilets, great day out.

Highly recommended. We visited them yesterday and I was very happy that I added it to my "Must see" list. To be honest, the very beginning (parking lot and first stood in the garden) is a little bit to clean and can create the wrong picture. But as further you get, the more it manages to be just awesome. You will find a lot of places where you can just sit and relax or where your children will have fun. And the creator of this garden is a really great person. Was a pleasure to meet and talk with you sir! Thanks for the great stay. And I loved your sign in the toilets (men left, women right cause... visit it to get the whole text 😉).

An absolutely stunning little oasis of pure pleasure, tranquility and beauty. Every colour you can imagine and then some more, this is a must visit place.
Multiple gardens, all different, all breath taking. Around every corner is another pure delight of one type or another.
Models of animals, dinosaurs and fairy houses will delight and entertain your smallies. The hobbit house is fantastic and decorated so appropriately.
The vegetable garden and orchard are amazing too and serve to educate kids as well as impress them.
And then, the flowers. Just wow!!!
The themes, the colours, the styles, the arrangements are stunning and so satisfying to see. No words can do them justice so just check out the attached pictures.
The owner told me they are constantly changing depending on what time of the year you visit.
Bring your own food or picnic, find a table or bench, there's loads to choose from.
Take your time. Take it all in. Travel up and down every twist and turn. Allow yourself at least 2 hours so you won't have to rush.
You will take home a camera or phone full of stunning pics.
Just go. Enjoy. You're welcome.

Came today with my wife and her parents, truly a hidden gem. You can tell a great deal of love and care went into the garden. A great spot to being th kids on a day out. Seems to be family run. Very clean and worth a visit.

We try go here as often as we can as it's only half an hour from our home. It's a really beautiful place. The gardens are so peaceful and the kids have great fun finding the fairies houses dotted around. Also the hobbit is great for the kids as are the goats and other animals there. It's a really nice way to pass a couple of hours.

Glenview Gardens is a unique 4 acre garden in West Cork. It's full of gardens with various types of flowers, trees and sculptures of animals. This place also has spaces for picnics and a self service tea room. There's also different animals in this place such as goats, chickens and rabbits that you can see. It's a beautiful place that gives you the vibes of a farm, garden and outdoor museum all at once. I enjoyed my visit to Glenview Gardens and would like to thank the people who work in that place for making my visit a great experience!

We had a lovely day, the hobbit house, fairies, gardens and the animal in closure are fantastic. You can see that great thought and hard work was done by the owners.
We were disappointed that the cafe was closed, but we were advised by the owner where to get buy food nearby.
I think that they should give people a map with directions of what way to go around, and where things are situated, plus bigger sign posts given directions of which way to go, as it's very easy to loose your way.
Mary O Brien — Google review
My first thought was, this place doesn't look very interesting.. I was very quick to judge because this place amazing! If you like fairytales that's your place to go to! The most admiring thing about it is that the owner of the place built it all by himself and it took him 12 years to do so! Everything you will see there is his make, and everything started from that little gnome house next to the bridge with the beautiful blue flowers!

great day trip destination. perfect for family trips. it's not very large though, you can easily walk through it in an hour. bring food, the next restaurants are quite far away. still very cool with kids.

Amazing! Such a nice surprise! We were expecting a little garden center and we're totally blown away by the beauty of this place. Definitely will be back and will totally recommend to friends and family.
Ashley P — Google review
An absolute gem! A wonderful garden which the kids (and ourselves) thoroughly enjoyed exploring. A huge amount of tender loving care from the owners has gone into creating this haven. Bring a picnic and enjoy it in any of the picnic areas, and there is also a garden room where you can make you own tea / coffee. The fairy trail is really lovely, with quite alot of fairy houses along the way which makes a change from most fairy trails which often only have a small few random fairy doors spread out. The Hobbit house is fabulous. It's great that you can take your time to enjoy the truly wonderful garden in your own time. We met the owner on the way in and as we were leaving he came over for a friendly, light-hearted chat. It's obvious that the owners take great pride in this beautiful garden, and rightly so.
The derelict and now-famous Shandon Bells stand atop a beleaguered tower at St Anne's Church in Cork, giving visitors 360-degree city views and the unique experience of ringing the bells. The church dates back to 1772, is intricately detailed with stained glass, and has a history of popular song-writing.
Really pretty church and climbing to the top was a unique experience. Being able to ring the bells was fun.
Prior to the last staircase there is small 4 step ladder, if you have mobility issues this would be difficult. Great views from the top and very interesting to see the bells. Probably spent an hour here to slowly enjoy it, but you could do it in 20 minutes.
Megan Higgins — Google review
Fortunately the bells were open again so we all had the opportunity to ring them , not to difficult as the ropes are easily accessible.
The steps and passage up to the top is quite narrow but it's worth it for the views of Cork.
Apart from ringing the bells and the views there is not really much to see, it's a small building. It is still worth the climb and the fun of ringing the bells. If you quick enough with the ropes you can create a decent tune
Andre Hackart — Google review
Breathtaking view of Cork city. Quite surprising the tricky climbing through narrow staircase passing right next to the bells 🔔 and behind the giant clock 🕰
Alice Hampert — Google review
A great place, must visit, Corks' The most attraction. Rich history.
Visit the bells, play with them, there are few short plays you can try your hand on.
Mind your head, keep the ear plugs on at all times, especially walking through the stair case with bells
Staff is courteous.
Vivek M — Google review
Definitely worth a visit to ring the bells and check out the views from the top.
Colin Long — Google review
On top of the tower, you can ring the bells and catch mesmerising views of the whole city.
Fun fact: Shandon bells has found an innovative and fun way of ringing the bells. There are notes written of various songs that we can refer to and ring the bells that brings out melodious tunes of those songs.
I found this as one of the most fun ways to discover the city.
Note: the steps are steep to be careful and have fun on top :)
Jai Sakhalkar — Google review
Quite beautiful protestant church in Cork. From the outside is quite nice with the two different colours, grey and red. The inside of the church is nothing special. For 5 euros you can go on the top of the tower bell and ring the bells.
Jacopo Cecchini — Google review
This was our first day out in Cork , once the weather smiled on us in Feb 2023. The Anglican church sits in a quaint neighborhood which sits atop a hill. The setting is quite scenic and once you reach the top most vantage point the panoramic view that it offers of the city is really splendid. Cork city has very few such vantages that sort of gives an overall perspective of the city fabric and this visual should not be missed by any one touring the town. A small fee is charged for going up to the bell tower , but it also gives one the opportunity to pull on the bell ropes , its quite hard to play a tune if your not used to it but definitely a peek into the past of the church choir.
Eldo Alias — Google review
Very nice, well preserved, the way up to the tower is a little tricky, probably not for everybody, but it's worthy.
Nice view of the city from the tower.
You get to play the bells, lovely!
Marcia — Google review
Amazing views from the top but need to be fit around 130 steps and gets narrow or you could ring the bells instead
Tim Donovan — Google review
Come here for a visit & you can ring the church bells yourselves. There’s several choices of songs you can follow by pulling on number coordinated bells pulleys. From “joy to the world” to the Lord of the Rings along with many others. I thought it was really cool as I’ve never rang church bells before. Also, you can climb the 132 steps to the top of the bell tower for a nice view over Cork.
Refcon — Google review
It was awesome seeing and reading about the Bell tower. The view from the top is amazing, and getting to ring the bells is fun, especially with the tunes they have pinned up. The only real issue I had was that being around 6'4"/195cm the climb got very tight in places. Just be warned that if you are similarly tall that it might not be your thing as im not 100% sure i would have done it if id known. Overall though the experience was amazing and well worth the €5 cost.
James “Stratosphere545” Lee — Google review
It is a worth visiting place.
The 132 steps climb up to the tower terrace is fully refunded by the spectacular Cork City panorama view.
The free ringing of the bells by the visitors adds more interest to being there!
I pitty people living in the neighborhood for their suffering of this.
Cork's Crawford Art Gallery is a welcoming space devoted to showcasing a collection of 2000 paintings, sculpture, glass and video works. Permanent exhibitions rotate frequently, with an emphasis on art from the citys history. The gallery is housed in the former Custom House, which was originally built in 1724 and has been augmented many times since.
Always good exhibits in this welcoming and safe space. Good place for all ages, exhibits change around quite regularly, so Always something new and fresh to see. Great to see new artists visible in this amazing space. Always great to see there is an LGBT trail for Pride 2021. There are special posters dotted around two floors so you've to keep your eyes peeled

One of the great founders of modern Cork the history of Crawford alone is great. The Gallery hosts some very historic and amazing art pieces.
What makes this Gallery special and unique is that it is free entry relying on donations. Not many places around do that.
With a selection and taste of art for all. The new extension to the building that is planned will be a great addition.
For now comparing to Gallery's around Europe it would have to get a 3 *
It also has a cafe check ahead for opening times.
Great work done by all the people involved in keeping it busy. Guided tours are also available. Or wonder around yourself. Also free entry. Highly recommended. Great for the City.

Located next to St. Finbarres Cathedral, Elizabeth Fort is an imposing 17th-century stone fortification that played a pivotal role in the siege of Cork in 1690. Originally built to help protect the city from artillery, the fort has had a variety of roles over the years, from reinforcing walls against new threats to playing a key role in civic events such as coronations. When it reopened to visitors in 2013 after renovations, it was one of Ireland's most popular tourist attractions.
Located on the southwest end of the city, this Elizabethan fortress offers wonderful views and scenery from the turrets. We visited the exhibition that was on charting the prisoners that were sent overseas to serve prison sentences.
We were assisted by the very helpful and informative Jennifer, who gave my partner and I some advice on other sites to see around the city.

Went there on the second week of February 2022, this was a quiet time because of cold weather and that was on weekdays. No public car park, I just parked my car at the corner of the small road behind the fort. Parking paid through phone number display on the Parking sign. But it was hard to going though the phone line.
We had a quick visit the Fort (about 15 minutes) with very friendly welcome receptionist, she explained everything and gave my sons some stickers. It was no fee of charge. And just one round up the the top of the Fort, from there you can seen almost Cork City and best church viewing from the top corner. They also have a museum at the ground floor but I did not enter there because just I feel a bit worrying about my car parking.
Everything was fine and I could say it is worth a visit, well maintained place.

The 54 hectare park, Ballincollig Regional Park, is located west of Cork City Centre and offers a wonderful natural woodland setting, with a variety of trails and picnic areas. This important recreational spot was used for the production of gunpowder for over two centuries up to the early 20th century, and still contains some remnants from this history. The park is great for the whole family to enjoy and is perfect for a summer day out.

There are a number of beautiful walks and trails which are flagged and signposted, ranging from a short 1km loop around the sports fields to a longer 7km trail following the river, sports fields and the Gunpowder Site. Ideal for running and walking along!
The facilities in the park also include a number of full size football pitches, GAA pitch, basketball courts, full playground, outdoor gym and a nice skate board area for kids!
Near the main entrance carpark by the river there is a little free library whoch is a great idea. Its a great honesty library and has a range of books for adults as well as kids!

The imposing Saint Fin Barres Cathedral is a Victorian Gothic-Revival style church dedicated to the patron saint of Cork. The cathedral is made up of intricate stonework and striking spires, and is a must-see for lovers of Gothic architecture.
From the outside, this must be one of the most astonishingly beautiful gothic cathedrals, period. The interior is less spectacular and doesn't quite justify the fee of 6€ on its own. The staff is extremely friendly, though and they will give you detailed information on the history! Definitely visit the cathedral to look at it from the outside and take a walk around the labyrinth and the old graveyard!

While not ancient, Saint Fin Barre's cathedral in Cork still manages to be awe-inspiring. Visiting is made simple and informative by the leaflet you get at the entrance, and the staff issuing tickets is also very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. The architect charged with the construction must have been quite a character, and it is probably not by chance that he is mentioned everywhere as you visit the church.
A feature of churches - primarily in the British Isles - which I find very endearing is the connection between the religious building and the memory of the young people from the congregation that were killed in a war. This cathedral is no exception, and the names of the fallen are preserved neatly in a thick book that can be admired close to one of the transept pillars.
Giorgio Berardi — Google review
Saint Fin Barre's Cathedral in Ireland, built along the Lee River in the city of Cork.
Dedicated to the city’s patron Finbarr of Cork (born 550) who founded a Monastery and his remains were brought to the site around the 7th-century AD. The original building survived until the 12th century and over time the site was rebuilt and used with various religious structures.
In the attempt to build a much more powerful structure the Victorian architect, William Burges design won a competition for the current building. He designed most of the cathedral's architecture, sculptures, mosaics and interior. The foundation stone was laid in 1865 and it took until 1879 until the 3 limestone spires were completed.
An estimate suggests that in total of some 1,260 sculptures include 32 gargoyles, each with different animal heads are included in the construction.
Burges's highlight of the design was the western façade which includes the theme of the last judgement and the twelve Apostles bearing instruments of their martyrdom. A gilded copper "resurrection angel" facing eastward on the main spire is the cathedral's most iconic feature, designed and installed by Burges in 1870 as a donation.
He originally won the award with a budget of 15,000.- Pounds but knew he needs at least double.
With the details of the designs features its final cost was above 100,000.- Pounds.

A beautifully maintained cathedral of grandiose proportions, St. Finn Barre's is welcoming and pleased to share its gorgeous design with visitors. Details of its history are everywhere, and there's a more than a few unique points of interest. It can be traversed quickly and the entrance fee is currently a modest €6. The grounds are also spectacular!

A beautiful cathedral in the heart of Cork.
There is an entrance fee but when you see the amount of stained glass windows, you can see why the charge is needed.
It is not a big cathedral but we'll worth the visit.

A great place to worship and to visit.

Maybe it's the prettiest attraction in the city. Amazing church. If you are planning to know the city, this should be the top 1, alongside the Hill (#2) and the Crawford art gallery (#3).
Every part of the church is pretty. Everything about it is awesome, and the €7 is a cheap price to pay.

This is in the top five of all of the cathedrals I have seen around the world. The amount of details found here is breathtaking. Make sure to take your time to appreciate all of the intricate details, especially on the facade.

I don’t always support the church, but…
when I do, its got to be gothic!
Highlights include the stained glass windows art and the angels carved into the stone.

Very interesting cathedral, got a very good tour by a knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide. Well worth a visit, interesting book of photos showing the reconstruction in the 1860's - interesting mainly for the dress of the people in the photos.
Also has a war memorial for the dead of the 2nd world war, which is unusual in Ireland.

Amazing cathedral with so much to look at. Stained glass tells stories from the Old Testament, lots of scenes I recognised, others I'll need to read up on. Beautiful ceiling in the sanctuary but also check out the mosaic floor.

Fantastic must see attraction when in Cork. Today's structure dates from the mid 19th century but is thought to have foundations from medieval times. Lovely manicured grounds to walk around with some headstones to view dating from the late 18th century. Small charge to view cathedral itself (€7). Parking available.

This is a Must Stop if you are visiting Cork. It's an incredible cathedral with a rich history. We were lucky that one of the docents, Steve, came and shared all sorts of amazing stories about the church, the stained glass, the eccentric architect who dressed like a court jester and ran 10x over budget, the relocated bodies of over 19,000 people, and the challenges with the pipe organ. There was also a story about the only female mason known! He was a font of knowledge about this place. It was awesome!
I recommend getting there right when they open. This place gets busy.

A beautiful theatre in Cork City. It sits in the shadow of the stunning Shandon bells. Intimate and cosy, ideal for smaller plays and performances.
The larger room holds approx 2 to 300 people. Comfortable and warm, definitely worth a visit.

Was told by church next door we could use the toilet. Woman at desk was bothered with my disabled mother using it. She said will have a word with the church. If you don’t want the embarrassment of being scolded, don’t do what we did.

Saint Patrick's Street is a famous curved urban street in Cork, Ireland. It is a popular shopping destination with a large variety of shops and restaurants, as well as some beautiful historic architecture.
Main shopping centre in Cork.
Pity the pedestrians don't care and look where and when they cross the street..
It's getting out of control

Patrick Street in Cork is in decay. Some buildings are falling down, a lot of them are closed. Immigrants are sleeping in shop doorways. Beggars are everywhere. The streets are dirty with lots of litter.
Paul Scally — Google review
it’s a good street as far as.. streets go? why is this on the list of the top 5 things to do in cork? (also it smells a bit of urine)
Chloe Turvey — Google review
Great street with great history and a wide selection of shops. Some of the most well known have gone over the recent years such as Poters etc. I have to give this 3 stars as there is not even public toilets in the City Centre.
A simple solution would be public toilets with a top up card such as a leap card solution might not be for everyone but it would be a start of some sort.
Most business owners are accommodating but there is an extent to which the can only go. For such a modern tech city it is a shame.

Curraheen Park Greyhound Stadium offers an enjoyable night out for families and groups. The three-course meal served is tasty, while the staff are friendly and helpful. Betting on the dogs adds to the fun of the experience, with seats available near the finish line. Although some may feel that the restaurant deal is a bit overpriced, it's worth it for those who want more than just a standard meal out. The atmosphere is relaxed and pleasant, making for a great time overall.
Fantastic night out. Friendly staff Great atmosphere and good food and drinks.

I tend to go here 3 times a year and I really do enjoy it the staff are amazing and the food is good but they could put the money back into the place the chairs are hard and the handles are falling off. I went here when it first opened and my uncle even had a few dogs running. But it is a good night out for couples and family

The restaurant deal is a little over priced for what it is but the seats we had were right on the finish line at the front. The food was OK, service was great and the whole night is a bit of fun. Is better than just a meal out. Also great to bring the whole family.

This was a really enjoyable evening out. We were in a booth so we were able to watch the races in warmth and comfort. We also had access to the bar which wasn’t too busy at all. The staff were lovely and the finger food was very nice. I am fairly sure that most of my digs are still running but that’s my own fault for not having a clue about greyhound racing….well recommend this as a night out with a difference.

Blackrock Castle, a 16th-century fortification which is now open to the public and home to an observatory, has been a popular educational centre for science, engineering and technology in Cork for centuries.
The best part was the friendly and skilled team. The presentation is engaging and the Castle is worth a visit, there is a nice coffee shop. I would say the planetarium is adequate for children at least 8 years old. Would not be quite interesting for those under this age.
Agnes Queiroz — Google review
The Blackrock Castle Observatory is a small castle that was renovated and is now used as an observatory and restaurant. If you take a tour there is only one room in the tower where you learn about the history of the castle and the rest of the tour is more about astronomy and the telescope. It is interesting and probably a great experience for kids but nothing for people who expect a great observatory. However, for the low price and the great restaurant definitely worth a visit if you are around Cork.
Gery & Michelle — Google review
the castle is very small. opposite the castle, a miniature statue of the castle can be seen on the wall next to the road.
in the planetarium we listened to a lecture on astronomy and then on the history of the castle.
we looked at the cellar and went up to the tower.
the staff is friendly. the lecturer is prepared and his presentation style is very good
Eszter Urbancsok — Google review
Visiting Blackrock Castle gives you access (in one ticket) to 2 very different things, and both of them are worth the visit!
First, of course, there is a very interesting looking castle with great history and a breathtaking view.
Second, a space exhibition with a tiny planetarium and many interesting facts about space.
Barna Dora — Google review
Very nice place, but if you want to go inside the castle, you have to book the tour. Very beautiful nice walk around.
Tereza Andrejkov? — Google review
An interesting excursion, the children should really like it, there is a spiral staircase inside the castle, the historical excursion from the guide is quite detailed! Nice view from the tower above.

Well can I say a big thanks to the staff of The Blackrock Observatory, today was my sons birthday,a request was made by him today to visit the place. We had no booking, but the staff fitted us in,each of the three staff members were so obliging, kind and caring. They made the trip one to remember. I hadn't visited the place in years, and 100% would recommend a trip there. A birthday we will remember. Thank you ladies for being so kind.

A great find thanks to Google Maps.
An interesting exhibition, accompanied by a planetarium presentation and a look around the old castle.
The telescope 🔭 dome is at the top of a narrow, steep, spiral staircase, which is fun for the able-bodied, but unfortunately inaccessible to anyone with mobility issues. However, it is what it is given the age of the building.
A quirky place to spend an hour or two visiting. 😃

Yes a fine castle and souvenir shop. The observatory we didn't do but I'm sure it's great. Nice stop off whilst on a cycle of the greenway. However, the restaurant was expensive and I would not get coffee there again.

We visited the Castle on a Tuesday at 1.50 pm, there are tours on the hour and the immediate one at 2 was completely booked so we had to wait for the next for an hour, moreover the restaurant on the premises remains closed on Monday and Tuesday. The guided tour was by a knowledgeable person who expanded on the history of the place and its role as an observatory.
Suitable for kids below 8 years. The walkway around the castle is wonderful and has to be visited.

We both loved the tour and our guide was very knowledgeable on the history of the castle. It's starts off with a great introduction on space and the solar system. Afterwards, we went to the castle cafe which was a very enjoyable experience.

Lovely spot to stop in, take in the greenway walk, get some food at the top quality cafe, hand a gander in the gift shop, and take in the tour. The wonderful tour guide Eva (Eabha?) gave us a great run down on what was visible that night in our skies above, a history of the Fort/ Castle and brief run down on the science now being undertaken on site. The exhibition is a must for those wanting to learn about space exploration, too. Definitely worth the visit.
Eoin Ó Nialláin — Google review
It's a small castle, so don't expect too much..
During the visit inside the castle there's only one room to learn about the history of the castle, the other places are more focused on astronomy.
So maybe the kids will enjoy more than adults..
The Everyman Theatre in Cork is a Victorian landmark that showcases Irish and international drama, dance and ballet performances. It attracts the best of theatre, comedy and music, but can be difficult to get tickets to if you're not lucky enough to snag them ahead of time. The venue is also home to the annual Guinness Cork Jazz Festival which takes place in October.
Attended the Wrong Jovi gig 29/3/24, beautiful cosy venue and the best tribute band I've seen, the closest to the real thing you'd ever come across and a big shout out to seanie who was very helpful with a situation.

Hadn't visited The Everyman for many years up until a couple of weeks ago when we attended The Addams Family. What an absolutely stunning theatre! Seriously, the decor is amazing. Everyone we dealt with (tickets, bar) was very friendly and welcoming. Of course the show was also fantastic.

I have no complaints about this theater. Saw a Christmas Panto here with the family and it was a lovely little theater. It feels intimate, but I didn’t feel like it was too tight. Seating grade isn’t too steep so for smaller kids it could be hard to see around a taller adult. There is a second level, and a really nice little lobby with a bar. The sound and lighting were both good. A great experience. I’d like to get back to another show. (Not the greatest pics here, but just so you get the feel of the seating area)

The Donkey Sanctuary Ireland is a place where rescue donkeys and mules who have been abused or neglected can find shelter, love, and the necessary care they need to live happy and healthy lives. The sanctuary is open to the public for free, and you are invited to walk among the animals, meet some of them in person, and sponsor one if you feel moved.
Such a lovely place with such a beautiful cause. Can't fault the adonkey sanctuary. People there are so nice nice friendly. Lovely atmosphere. Plenty parking. Grounds are kept immaculate. You can tell by the donkeys that they are well looked after.
Went today for a little Easter hunt. Very well layed out and organised. Very very reasonable. Making a donation. I think if anything to try maybe get a little funding that a minimum 5 euro price for even parking your car there wouldn't go astray. I know it is completely based off donations but if everyone paid even a fiver it would all add up. I think even a fiver per car and 5 euro admission most definitely should be charged. Because it deserves it.

Absolutely beautiful place, very accessible and easy to visit. Great initiative and can only recommend.
One thing that irritated me though was the barbecue taking place right next to the visitor center, I guess I expected a more holistic pro-animals attitude, and not rescuing the one farm animal whilst grilling the other

I visited this amazing place several years ago and have been a supporter ever since. We are yearly adopters of a donkey and usually gift another. They do wonderful work and if you get a chance to visit go! Now we have our own rescued donkey Angus and we support here and rescues in the US. They are smart, loving, totally committed long-living creatures. We learned that at this sanctuary.

Lovely place to visit while in Cork to see all the donkeys been cared for so well, lovely stroll around the farm all for free. Nice gift shop and opportunity to make a donation to this worthy cause as they rely on donations or for people to adopt a donkey. Well worth a visit

A bit off the beaten path and if you’re in the area it’s 100% worth the visit.
We went on a weekday when the visitor center was closed since we had adopted one of the donkeys (Roma). The workers were very helpful in showing us where she was and bringing her over to us with a snack.
You can tell the donkeys are well cared for if you’re familiar with farms generally. The donkeys aren’t very shy either they’re keen to get some pets and especially a carrot.
There are also footpaths that go beyond the houses into the fields but it was closed due to the weather and also probably just the time of the week.
The place has a sanitation station and clean toilets.
