Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon, also known as Wat Nong Wang, is a stunning Buddhist temple designed in the traditional Pagoda style. The temple boasts nine levels that recede beautifully and are crowned with a towering golden spire. Visitors can expect to hear wind chimes as they ascend the non-uniform stairs to reach the top level which offers breathtaking views of Khon Kaen town.
Gorgeous pagoda temple with a dinosaur sub theme. Visit on a windy day to get the full effect of the wind chimes that adorn the spire.
The climb to the top is not too difficult but don't expect the stairs to be uniform in height. The climb is worth it though, the view from the top is amazing.

I came here on my last trip to Thailand back in May. Very beautiful temple and very well maintained. I was absolutely blown away from the moment I arrived with the pyramid shaped temple and the art work when you walk inside showing both old and new traditions. Definitely worth the visit and the views from the top are amazing too. Khon Kean is another one of my favourite provinces with so much to see and do. This is one province I will always come to

Most probably the best temple in Khon Kaen. Enough space for parking. Sometimes of course a bit busy, but never too crowded. Make sure you make it all the way to the top 9. floor. Yes, the view up there is breathtaking but also one will be Buddha very close.

80 meters Stupa composed of 9 levels. The first contains relics of Buddha and 4 images of him.
There are stairs leading to the top. At each level, there is a peculiar center of interest - 4th floor for meditation, 5th floor as museum, 6th for Buddhist Masters...
The view point from the top over Khon Khaen is stunning.
You can easily spend a couple of hours there to visit all the stories in detail.

Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon
(Thai: พระมหาธาตุแก่นนคร) Kaen Nakhon, 'The Great Buddha's Relics' or 'The Nine Story Stupa Located in Wat Nong Waeng,' is a Thai royal temple of the old town. Wat Nong Waeng is located close to Kaen Nakhon marsh on Klangmuang Road, Muang District. Phra Mahathat Kaen Nakhon was established to celebrate the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej's accession to the throne and to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Khon Kaen province's establishment. Its thorough spire, Isaan fishnet shape, Indochina-Dvaravati Era Style, imitated Phra That Kham Kaen. Its base is a square shape of 50 meters on each side and 80 meters in height, where are situated the four-mini-Buddha's relics in each corner sheltered by a seven-head-nāga crystal wall.

The Ton Tann Market is not really unlike many other markets around the Kingdom. Little kiosk style shops selling a myriad of clothes, cell phone stuff, shoes and assorted trinkets. As with most outdoor markets there is a high percentage of food kiosks with the nice addition of a few Chang brewery service points so you can enjoy a few beers with your meal.
The market has a little stage area with tiered seating where they often have some entertainment to watch while enjoying a snack or a bit of a rest from touring the market
There is loads of parking which is a nice bonus. The market really is an evening market where locals come to walk around and take in the lights and shopping "nik naks".
The real difference between this market and others is that it is very clean, wheel chair accessible on mostly flat nicely paved walkways and thoroughfares complimented with proper lighting and a bit more of an "upscale" Thai market experience.

I arrived at the place and saw a nice night market, an open area with a lot of parking, there are many Thai food stalls and other types of food in the market, it changes from time to time, there are local foods and all kinds of strange and delicious foods, there is a grill, there are kebabs, there are types of drinks, fresh natural juices, and also a cake stand, special homemade cakes , worth finding the booth. To sit or just walk around and take a walk in the place, there are also clothes at inexpensive prices, it would be nice to come to the place and see. What I would fix is to add a garbage can, there is not much place to throw the garbage. Close to the market there are large food stores, food chains and a huge supermarket. The area is an industrial area on the main road

Advantages: a wide range of general dishes based on Thai and East Asian cuisine (very narrow ones for Western cuisine, though), moderate prices, airy but quite relaxing ambience, generally clean premises, ample parking space
Disadvantages: crammed tables for dining, not many choices for everyday purchase (e.g., shoes, ornaments), few signs (such as where to place used plates and dining utensils) for new customers

Wat Pa Thamma Utthayan is a serene and peaceful temple in Khon Kaen, Thailand, perfect for meditation and prayer. It's described as a Buddhist theme park with various attractions such as statues, shrines, and places to meditate. The temple is filled with hidden gems including buddhas, temples, and shady trees. Visitors recommend arriving early to enjoy the day there and suggest taking kids along for an enjoyable experience.
Very nice place. Worth a visit. Go early and wear a hat. It's very nice to take kids there, take a taxi for 120 to 150 baht from Khon Kaen and enjoy the day there. Have a few restaurants and very very cheap nice coffee places. Live animals, birds and fish feeding.

Dino Water Park is an attraction that offers aquatic entertainment for people of all ages. It is a park with a dinosaur theme, and it features various activities such as a wave pool, enormous slides, and rafting experiences. Visitors can partake in thrilling adventures while enjoying the water at this park. With its unique theme and array of exciting options, Dino Water Park provides an enjoyable experience for families looking to have fun in the water.
Excellent place to come and hang with kiddos!!! The kids slide area (pictured here) is fantastic, and really feels newly updated! The wave pool is huge, and super fun, too!! Right now you can pay only ฿200 for the wave pool and the giant kids play zone pictured here for the day. Then, it’s only an extra 200 baht for three big slides, but we had so much fun at the two previously mentioned spots, we didn’t even need to do that. Yes, as others mentioned in previous reviews, there are a lot of slides closed, probably a COVID season casualty, but the stuff that’s open is great, and a really great value! We’ll be back, Dino Water Park!
Chris Barbee — Google review
I used to bring my daughter here a few times a month before Covid. Since they’ve reopened, we’ve only been back three times. The first two times, it really wasn’t very clean, but I thought maybe they were still trying to recover from being closed for so long. I took my daughter today and I don’t think we will be coming back. The water was a very dark green color, not the clear/blue like it was before. It also had a very strange smell. We didn’t stay long, maybe an hour. It’s sad to see the park is not being taken care of the way it should be. They should shut down, clean and repair the park, then reopen. I think they would attract more people if this place was repaired and cleaned up. I have spoken to quite a few people, foreign and Thai, many of them refuse to go because the water is never clean.

The first moment I thought this Park seems really nice. I best describe it in plus and minus points:
+ beautiful rides
+ wave pool has white sand around and a nice blue colour
+/- 600 baht (£15) is not expensive for a water park but expensive for Thailand
- staff doesn't speak English
- there are no signs explaining what equipment you need to carry up to the slide. E.g. Spaceshuttle requires to wear a helmet but no signs telling you that.
- I hurt myself on every slide due to badly designed water flow
Elia Franke — Google review
The water is not clean but the kids didn't care. Majority of slides working. Wave pool is good. Everyone was satisfied with the experience.
But some extra maintenance and cleaning is required to make it acceptable to tourist's.

Checked the water park website today. It said it was open and not too busy. Travelled to Khon Kaen for the day to visit the water park and it was closed. The security guard said it was closed for the week for repairs, from looks of things it had been closed a lot longer. This information should be posted on their website so people do not waste their time. Disappointing!
Travis Humphreys — Google review
All coasters are out of function, except the ones in the kids water land and the wave pool is operating (maybe because of the season?) I'm sure the kids gonna have a blast of fun, but that would also be the only reason for going here (to drain your kids energy), not much for adult when all the coasters is closed. Food and drink options limited, but okay. You are not allowed to bring food and drinks. Current price: 200 adult (foreign and Thai) kids under 90cm get in for free. If no swimming half price.

As opposed to some of the other reviewers here, I fully understand why this park does not have many visitors - it is a straightforward scam! We paid full price at the entrance, to find out many of the attractions are not in operation any more. Entrance fee is already quite expensive (THB 500 for us per person) while the park has certainly seen better times. On top of that, you get this feeling they are taking any chance to rip you off after you have already entered the park. Of course a place to sit for a family is not included in the entrance fee! The so-called 'cabana', a few wooden benches with a table and roof will cost you THB 400 and another THB 200 deposit (no idea why), wood splinters in your hands and feet included. You basically have no other choice but to rent this thing anyways, I mean who wants to sit in the sun for several hours at 33 degrees! Some of the waterslides are a safety risk to me, at least I got my back injured on one of them. Food and water are unnecessarily expensive, and of course you cannot bring your own inside. They are charging THB 20 for a small bottle of water. I hope some people will read this review before going, so I can save you the money, time and help you avoid exposing your children to this unsafe place.
The City Pillar Shrine, also known as San Lak Muang, can be found in various provinces throughout Thailand and is considered a sacred location. I'm actually interested in SE Asian history and this museum has potential if it were bigger but charging 100thb to foreigners for such a small place that can be seen in 15 minutes is a joke. It's not fair charging foreigners 500% more for a place that is nothing special. It shld be 40thb tops which wld still be double the price Thais pay. Contrary to past reviews though there's actually a lot of English descriptions in the place and some decent sculptures that are 1,000 years old plus. It's just so small there's no point coming here unless you're actually interested in this stuff. Being closed Mon and Tues also doesn't make it easier to visit if you are just passing they KK. Please stop thinking you are accomplishing something by overcharging foreigners, it just lowers people's opinion of Thailand

The wholesale market is NOT what it is supposedly to be. Maybe because of Covid, many shops are now vacant....looks sad.
However there are still shops open and is enough to walk around. You can find formal wear to casual, beach wear to inner wears, native Thai textiles, handbags, shoes and beddings etc. There is even a gold shop here.
There are also some food and drink stalls to cater for the hungry and thirsty.
I hope this market can grow back to its former glory.

Old hotel, with some recent upgrades and acceptable for a short stay on the outskirts of town.
A 3.5 star rating would be most appropriate, but Google only has 1 to 5 and it’s not quite at 4* level, due issues with internet during our entire stay.
The hotel is large, there must be around 100 rooms. We stayed during a 6-day long public holiday weekend, and the hotel and the area around was very quiet. However, it looks like an industrial zone, and I can imagine that the hotel gets busy on normal working days.
Staff is friendly and accommodating. We asked to switch rooms due to poor Wifi signal, the receptionist came up and even helped us moving our suitcases. As for the Wifi: although we had much stronger signal in the new room, the internet connection still dropped frequently. It was as if the internet was on/off/on in 30 seconds intervals. I ended up having to use my mobile phone as a hotspot, burning through a lot of data.
Rooms are quite old but have some recent upgrades, such as new AC units and flat screen TV’s (which appear to be early generation LCD). The furniture shows signs of heavy wear, with chipped paint and dents. Beds are a bit hard and there’s the occasional poke of the steel springs noticeable. Showers utilize a central hot water system; it can take quite a while for warm water to flow through the showerhead. A fair amount of black stain mold on grout in bathroom.
Room has hot water kettle with instant coffee, sugar, creamer (thankfully not the sweet 3-in-1 kind).
Breakfast was included in the double room rate for under 600B on Agoda. There’s a choice of 8 Thai dishes that are freshly prepared to order. We were also served a bottle of cold water each, and instant coffee is available at a self-service station. Some reviews complained about the breakfast - we disagree, it was good. We didn’t mind that there’s no western choices.
The hotel now has covered car parking spaces, which are on the east side of the hotel entrance, where a Chinese restaurant use to be located. It has enough space to park about 10 cars and some motorcycles. When I checked on Google streetview, it still showed the Chinese restaurant at the location of what is now the car park.

Hong Mun Mang Mueang Khon Kaen, Khon Kaen City Museum
Located by the Kaen Nakhon Lake, Hong Mun Mang Mueang Khon Kaen, also known as Khon Kaen City Museum, is a repository of the city's historical records and serves as a hub for research and education. The museum offers insights into the evolution of Isaan beliefs and heritage over time. Despite some maintenance issues, it features informative exhibits showcasing traditional life, religion, and local history in five distinct zones.
Two great informative museums in Khon Kaen- the national museum and the city museum “Hung Moon Mung”. This one explained the history and traditional culture of Khon Kaen . I learned more how the “Isaan” beliefs and heritage evolved through the centuries. Most of the information is in English also.
Unfortunately, ( as with many Thai municipal government projects), the professionally built museum has not been maintained- so the lighting is poor and in some areas the roof leaks. Sad to see the government neglect such a city treasure.

A museum not taken much care of it, though the story of folk life is very interesting. 90 bath for foreigner is quite pricy.

It is museum about city history. Very nice organised and good place to learn the history of and surrounding area.

The varied exhibits illustrate traditional life, religion, and history of people in Isan. The museum is in 5 zones in a large semicircular arrangement. Open Tuesday to Sunday 0900-1700; closed Monday and holidays. Foreign admission is 90 baht. Worth supporting.

Interesting history on the start of Khon Kean .
I wasn't impressed at being asked to pay tourist price of 90 baht when Thai are 10 baht . It's a nasty Thai problem called discrimination and illegal in most places around the world.

For history buffs. Nice compilation of the city's history. Easy to miss.
Has deteriorated badly for a relatively new building. Not much to see there and tom toms do not know how to make a cupaccino

Mostly Farang things, what can i say.
What a filler up, over priced for some things we got cheap at home, plus who wants to go to Starbucks when therr starduck down the road, better coffe and cheap, by thr way star duck is like a little cart shop, pretty good no joking, i hate coffe but, they make that *@^# sweet abd fresh, fresh like ... anyways.
Good thing is that some of our westerb delights like subway and kfc are actually cheaper here then back home i feel, so up to you boss.

Subway also is nice for the quick sandwich grab ( favorites are tuna and then roast beef with cheese , onions, lettuce ). The breads are always fresh with quick and kind service ! Next visit may include their newest offering a Korean BBQ !

Not really huge mall. Location is not really far from Central Plaza. You can walk from Central Plaza to this mall. It's quiet place. A lot of Korean foods restaurant here.

This is a very nice place during December and January, when there is a flower festival. My wife loves to go here. I'm not into flowers, but it looks nice.

The final attraction to visit in Khon Kaen is Wat Pa Saeng Arun, a Buddhist temple known for its unique blend of architectural styles from the central region and northern Isan. The pinnacle of the temple is crafted from pure gold and stands 60 meters above the ground. Situated on the outskirts of town, this well-preserved temple boasts an impressive interior that captivates visitors. The expansive temple grounds offer ample parking space and are adorned with beautiful gardens and various intriguing tableaux.
Great temple with gingery colors. So many docile and lovely dogs in the area. Also have a nice chedi that you can go inside and some statues and life size diorama.

Local temple of Pra-Lab sub prefecture. I'm be here for the funeral event. The main building has air conditioning that modern for the local temple. The location closely with the Maliwan main road of KhonKaen prefecture.

A beautiful temple on the outskirts of town (Khon Kaen)
Nothing too much out of the ordinary here, but it is a fine temple in excellent condition and the interior is particularly striking.
Easy parking within the temple grounds, which are quite large.
Within these grounds are gardens and a number of interesting tableaux. You may well bump into a monk who wishes to chat ............. in Thai.
Recommended, and easy to find with a map and car.

This temple is quite far from the city centre so the easiest way to get there is by car or motorcycle.
The temple grounds are quite spacious and the main building is quite beautiful. Well worth a visit.
