The National Botanical Conservatory of Brest is a stunning location where visitors can enjoy pleasant walks surrounded by nature, just two minutes from the city. The botanical gardens are dedicated to conserving endangered plant species and feature tropical greenhouses, exhibitions and a shop. The National Maritime Museum in Brest, located on an imposing medieval fortress overlooking the bay, features a rich naval history and traditions from around the world. The museum has a large collection of model replica ships from French fleets and paintings with maritime themes. Audio guides are available to help navigate through the exhibits.
Oldest Maritime museum in Europe if not the world. Housed within a castle. Only 7euros for adults - excellent value. Good history of the castle and the dock areas in addition to the navy and the different types of ships. Get the audio guide which is free and comes in different languages.

I love to visit this types of museum. But found this one quite boring. Short to no signs in English (and only a few in German), you got a audioguide in English, but the guide itself was slow and not always that interesting in my opinion. Many many stairs into spaces and rooms that was sparsely equipped with forced facts. Would not recommend because I feel like you can visit better museums in this region and get more experiences for your time. The personnel was nice. I found no toilets while visiting.

I am fascinated by the current trend to reutilise old industrial facilities. Here in Brest they have gone one better, not only revitalising the massive machine hall but also preserving some of the old machines which worked there. Its a great opportunity to marvel at the technology that fabricated our past. Along side the old there is the new, modern start ups, micro brewery, food hall and coffee bar. The you step out on to the belvedere, a great view and then take a ride in a "ski lift". A place not to be missed.

Great building with many opportunities for cultural and other exhibitions and events.
On the first floor was an exhibition about the destruction of Brest in World War II by the Allies and the reconstruction of the city in comparison to Dresden.
On the ground floor is the gondola that Napoleon used during his visit at the beginning of the 19th century.
The cable car also arrives here.
And there is a lot of open space with smooth floors where children rode bikes and young people rode skateboards.
Since everything is covered, it's easy to stay here even in bad weather.
There are several restaurants in the basement.
This has been implemented excellently for a new use of the old halls.
You should take a look and you can easily reach it with the cable car from the other bank.

The Pont de Recouvrance is a lift bridge spanning the Penfeld River in Brest, France. It was inaugurated in 1954 and ranks as the second largest bridge in Europe. The structure replaced a swing bridge that had been destroyed during an Allied bombing raid in 1944. Its location near Rue de Siam connects to Quartier de Recouvrance, showcasing evidence of Brest's military and naval significance dating back to Roman times.
The Recouvrance Bridge is a lift bridge that crosses the Penfeld, in Brest, Finistère. Dominating the arsenal and the military port. It was built in 1950 - 1954. The National Bridge, inaugurated on June 23, 1861, collapsed into the river in September 1944, during the Allied bombings for the liberation of Brest from German occupation.
Post-war, after temporary solutions, such as the use by civilians of the Gueydon or Kervallon bridges. If you are visiting Brest, I advise you to visit this masterpiece.

One of the top and extremely helpful tourist offices I've ever been to. Very welcoming, knowledgeable and very helpful staff. They helped me find a clinic that does PCR tests. They helped me with my travel arrangements. That says a lot about the people from Brest and that is they welcome everyone and they want your stay to be good. Brest is a very welcoming and lovely city. I love you all and I will come back to Brest. I'm so glad I went to a place that treats you like family! ❤❤❤❤❤🙂🙂🙂

The Fort Montbarey museum tells the story of the Second World War in Finistère, France. The forts that make up the museum date back to the late 18th century and were originally built by Louis XVI. The fort is very interesting and worth a visit, especially if you are interested in military history.

The Henri Ansquer square features a bronze statue donated by Les Amis de Recouvrance association. It depicts Fanny de Laninon and Jean Quéméneur, immortalized in the Lament of Jean Quemeneur song. One of the least favorite marinas we stayed in while cruising France. Needs a serious upgrade. The visitors area is a long way from the facilities and office and so you tend to get forgotten about.
On the plus side very close to the rail station and the excellent TGV service if you need to get to Paris and on back to the UK.
Parked our boat here for 4 weeks and everything was fine. Plenty of cruisers about.

Musée Mémoires 39-45 is a remarkable museum that vividly portrays the World War II era. The fort's construction by 200,000 French workers and subsequent capture by the Germans is showcased in a spectacular manner. Visitors can experience the feeling of wartime bombardments through a specially designed room. The museum offers multilingual information, personal stories from various perspectives, reconstructed living spaces, access to bunker levels, and restored trenches with panoramic views.
A must visit. The properiters were very friendly and allowed to have some drone shots. The best part for me is that everything was accessible in English.
