The Basilica Notre Dame de Fourviere is a neo-Byzantine religious confection of Roman columns and religious iconography, located in Lyon, France. Its towering exterior is meant to impress with its gleaming marble, gold gilt, fantastic stained glass and hallucinogenic ceiling, making it one of the city's most popular attractions.
Our Lady of Fourvière is an imposing church on the top of the hill with panoramic views of almost the entire city of Lyon. Inside, the rich decoration gives a grandeur to the temple that fixes you. I believe it is the most important attraction of the city without this meaning that this beautiful city does not have many hidden beauties for the traveler. Also for the climb to the hill I highly recommend the picturesque wagon with the cog railway.

The church is located up the hill of Lyon city, the view is spectacular. You can see almost all the building in Lyon. Also the church and art are beautiful both in and out. It is not crowded by the time I visited. It is easy to get here by train. Recommended to come as it must be the bucket-list for Lyon city!

Great view from this hill. Take F2 line up and enjoy the long downhill stroll through old town. Also check out the amphitheatre nearby before you head down.

The Basilica is beautiful inside and out, especially when seen up on the hill. The view looking out over Lyon is even better, you can see for miles and look down on all the other landmarks that you probably walked past on your way to this one. Stunning.

A beautiful piece of art. A great location to enjoy the view of city from the height. It is an equivalent of scare couer of Paris but maybe slightly better I feel. You can either walk uphill to this place, or can take a cable train or even a car since the place is well connected with roads.

Impressive cathedral overlooking Lyon from the top of the hill. Very particular architecture design. It is quite impressive from both outside and inside. The entrance is free and not much to wait to enter. You can visit both the cripta and the main church.

Mosaics, stained glass and paintings are more impressive than many places I have seen architecturally and artistically. The location is very good and you can see Lyon from a bird's eye view. We went on foot, I recommend everyone to go out by walking.

I think it is the most beautiful place of worship in Lyon and I think it is difficult to say otherwise. It is definitely a place that amazes externally and internally indeed and it can be seen from literally every corner of the city center of Lyon! It can be reached by funicular and from the hill you can enjoy a splendid view! Admission is free and it is possible to take photos.

A beautiful, ornate cathedral that I would highly recommend visiting for anyone who appreciates such places. It probably won't be quiet, as it's a big draw in the city, but it won't matter. And there is a great view from just outside the cathedral as well as a restaurant and café. Parking your bike isn't super easy, is my only criticism, as there doesn't seem to be any dedicated spaces for them. However, I was pretty easily able to put it somewhere.

Visiting this magnificent cathedral provides an opportunity to appreciate the exquisite beauty of architecture, transcending its purely religious significance.
It is highly recommended to maintain a sense of decorum, refraining from raising your voice, and respecting the solemn atmosphere during Masses when exploring the cathedral.
Upon concluding your visit, you can savor a splendid panoramic view of the city from the nearby lookout point and indulge in a delightful coffee and snack at the outdoor café in close proximity.

While spending the day in Lyon we saw this beautiful white church high on a hilltop. We found an old funicular (one of the only four in the world) to take us to the church. The ride was unique but sadly passed through tunnels without any views. Once we got out, we saw this beautiful church both inside and out. In the crypt area, they had an exhibit about the cloth of Turin. There are also spectacular views of Lyon at the backside of the church. Definitely worth the visit if you're in the area...

This is an amazing Notre Dame! One of the best I’ve seen in France. There’s a few way to reach it, there is a metro station stop directly in front, you can climb up the steep steps and the steep hike they Jardin de rosary (which we did) or you can drive up and park nearby. Highly recommended.

Very beautiful church. The priest passing by greeted my family and I sitting in the pews and struck up a conversation in my native language, my children loved it. It was a great heart warming welcome for the children as it was their first time in Europe and inside a church.
A side note, as a visitor to any holy place, please be respectful, keep your voice down and control your children. Always make sure you are aloud to take pictures (never assume you are allowed to take pictures just because there are pictures online). While we were there there was was woman who thought that everyone in the church couldn't hear her.

Just had an incredible experience at the Notre-Dame Basilica Fourvière in Lyon! 🙌✨ The journey to reach this magnificent landmark was absolutely worth it. Climbing the steps up the hill, taking in the stunning views of the city along the way, and finally standing in awe of the basilica's beauty – it's a memory I'll cherish forever. An absolutely gorgeous place to visit with some incredible architecture. A great view of Lyon from above at the back of the basilica.
It was quite busy when we visited in the middle of the day, so it was not the best time to appreciate everything in a peaceful atmosphere.

About 15 mins after you cross the bridge into Old Town. It’s a long upward ascent to the Basilica, but the view at the top makes it all worth it. The architecture is beautiful and the Priests were also very welcoming when we went inside. Recommended to visit.

This is quite simply one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world.
The Stained Glass windows are wonderful, especially around the altar.
The mosaics around the knave are incredible.
The views are spectacular.
The external building is so well cared for.

One of the most spectacular places to visit in Lyon during the summer. You are able to see the city of Lyon from the terrace of basilica and in the middle of the summer this place can be quite crowded. If there is no clouds the view can be amazing as most buildings starts to reflect the sunlight, making a unique view. Inside the basilica is spectacular with French architecture is showing its best of times. Good place to pray as well if you are keen on doing so.

Absolutely beautiful with amazing views of the river and the city. The funiculaire was quite busy to go up, so I walked instead. The walk was moderately challenging with lots of steps. I took the funiculaire back down, and it was much less busy on the way down. There is so much to see at the Bassilica. Check out the crypt and the chapel for Mary, too. Beautiful

A beautiful cathedral overlooking the city of Lyon. The church is a functioning place of worship so please treat the area with utmost respect. The intricate details on ceilings and walls show how much the people cherish their religion. Downstairs there's a crypt that one can visit. Don't forget to go behind the church to see a beautiful panorama of Lyon. Best way to get here is to take the furnicular.

We walked through both floors and around the Basilica and it was very amazing. Tons of extremely impressive mosaics and lots of gold. A very amazing and dramatic view. They very well explain all the mosaics and art in the hall. The descriptions are only in French so make sure you either have your translating camera or someone to read the descriptions to you if you need as they are quite interesting. The lower floor was super unique showing different countries views on the church which isn’t super common it feels.

Magnificent basilica and not a castle as it looks from afar.
Also spectacular view from the monument's terrasse. A view only beaten by Mont Martre towards Paris in my book so far.
We had the pleasure to participate to the mess on Sunday and it is also breath taking as it is full of visitors participating in the singing.

Just stunning - the highlight of Lyon for sure. They call it 'the upside down elephant' because it resembles an elephant on its back and it's strangely apt. The inside is beautiful and FREE to enter which is nice. Also really enjoyed the innovative contactless votive candle payment system. Great gift shop across the street too. Just beware the very steep hill and stairs up to the Basilica - they're no joke!

This basilica is located in the most strategic point in Lyon to get a great view of the city. Just walk around the basilica to the other side of the plaza and you will see all of Lyon in front of you. You can see the two rivers, and all the areas up to the far mountains.
For the basilica itself, I really liked the lion statue at the entrance, it's a great piece of art.
The candle stands inside are so beautiful with all the colorful candle cups.
I also liked the stained glass and paintings. I'll share some photos here.
This museum is devoted to hyper-realistic miniature scenes and movie props, as well as special effects exhibits. It is another unusual attraction that many tourists find fascinating. The museum has over 400 pieces of movie memorabilia, including costumes, accessories, and sets. Additionally, the museum houses a collection of 120 miniature movie sets meticulously created by artist Dan Ohlmann. Visitors can enjoy posing in front of dinosaurs or walking through a miniature version of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
A really great museum and fantastic way to spend an hour or two in Lyon. The first few floors are props, costumes and other items from major films. These are all pretty interesting, but the highlight is in the top floor. A series of absolutely incredible miniature scenes painstakingly created with astounding details. I could look at them for ages, marvelling at the skill. Never seen anything like it. My photos here are all models, no more than 2 feet across.

A fabulous museum. I last visited in 1998 when it was miniatures only and the highlight was Bible verses on a grain of rice. Now it has a wonderful display of cinematic props and models, costumes, prosthetics, weapons and other artifacts. Wes Anderson has his own gallery. The miniature rooms on the top floor are simply amazing, both intricate and beautiful. Well worth a visit.

This is one of my favorite museums in France and is a great museum for a movie fan. You could spend a lot of time there without being bored. There are a lot of nice props, costumes, and film technologies, etc that are amazing. My favorite part of this museum is the miniature part. The miniatures are so incredible, and painstakingly created. I can visit and spend ages looking at all of them, and still not be bored at all. Dan Ohlmann and other artists have done a wonderful job, and I would like to thank them for creating such an amazing museum like this. I highly recommend visiting this museum when you are visiting Lyon.

Visited this place a little bit before closing and I had to fight myself to believe that it was miniature. The first floor is major film props like Harry Potter, but the top floor is the main standout, A collection of incredibly detailed miniature scenes that were meticulously built. You could be amazed at the skill for a very long time, next to nothing you've ever seen. All of the images of the sets are pressed to the window, no more than 15 cm.

I came to this museum because I had access to it with the Lyon City Card pass (super easy to use when visiting Lyon). I really enjoyed this museum; it had 4-5 floors with 8-9 different exhibits. It’s a nice tourist attraction for cinephile and families that enjoy looking at movie props. I spent probably 1h30 doing all the floors and could’ve spent much longer if I wasn’t on a tight schedule.
There is lineup to get in here, but it wasn’t long (probably 15-20 mins wait). I recommend this museum to all that visit Lyon, especially if you want to escape the afternoon summer heat.

A privately owned museum that will delight film buffs and newbies alike! The ticket paid for itself with the ground-floor Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade sidecar (a reproduction that you can get in and photograph), as well as the idol from Raiders (that you can also play and photograph yourself with). I won't spoil your fun with more details: just know it is totally worth visiting 😊

It's rare that you go to a museum that's truly different and spectacular at the same time, but this is exactly what this is. You start with visiting various parts of the set of the movie Perfume. Then there are a few floors containing various items used in many popular movies. You finish at the top floor containing lots of absolutely stunning miniatures used in films. Overall a brilliant experience and I'd say this is a must for any movie fans visiting Lyon.

Brilliant if you are a movie fan. Real sets, props and costumes from some the biggest movies in history. Some of the displays maybe a little upsetting for very small children, but otherwise very family friendly. The building is very old and atmospheric. Loved the Alien Queen as used in AVP and the Predator costume.

From the outside, the museum looks very small. This place has nine floors, stacked in a beautiful building in Lyon's old town. The miniature exhibits are out of this world. They are meticulously designed and illustrated with lighting. The cinema part of the museum is also fun. Do not miss this place if you are in Lyon.

4 floors. 9 rooms. More than 500 items from Hollywood film studios and other studios from the world! Incredible experience. I literally saw decorations and costumes from original Star Wars, Back to the future, Batman, Spider-Man (all movies that were made before the digital era) - all these amazing things!
These emotions and feelings have to be experienced. Thanks to Dan Ohlmann for collecting it!

This museum was so incredibly amazing, we loved it! So many great movie props, costumes and prosthetics from the actual movie productions - what a collection! Definitely check this one out!

Came here over 7 years ago and I returned today. Such an endearing place, a Lyon must and, if you love films/design, you will enjoy it so much.
My only comment is that it lacks accessibility; the elevator was not working and the exhibitions are inaccessible unless you go up and down some slipper stairs over and over again.
Love place!!

Fantastic! Set in an amazing multi story building. Lots of neat movie props and history as well. Information signage is English too. The miniatures on the top floors are lifelike and excellent in the recreation.
Well worth the cost of admission and set inside the old town so lots of great stuff to see nearby too.

Definitely a larger focus on older movies in this museum which is only natural. I’d say you need to be 25 or older to understand everything but it’s easy to appreciate for movie fans. Lots of cool props, the sets are rather niche but cool as are the miniature sets.

An amazing museum with so many items that would turn the heads of movie addicts. Real items that were used in blockbuster movies. The miniature part of the museum is really unbelievable, the level of details is incredible. A highly recommended destination whenever in Lyon
The impressive ruins of the Roman theater dating back to 2 BC are now used for open-air concerts and festivals. The ancient theater is situated on Fourviere Hill near the Notre Dame Basilica and from it you can see the grand remains of the Odeon of Lyon.
Beautiful Roman amphitheatre proving incredible views over Lyon and the surrounding area. Free to visit though a fee is required to go to the museum. Definitely worth taking the funicular railway to get there though as it'd be a steep walk!

I am always impressed by the architectural design with remarkable acoustic qualities of such Roman theatres. The setting, with the enhancement of sound and lights by modern technology, offers excellent experience and enjoyment. The downside is it is open air, so events could be affected by weather.

Really beautiful amphitheater . Always a lot going on there as it is still being actively used. When we were there there was a band doing sound check for a concert later that night. Our friends stumbled into a gladiator performance here.
Steep stairs but not so bad. Great views of Lyon… and free!

It's great to visit such old moments and imagine life long ago. It would be nice to have more information about what exactly the ruins are, maybe some pictures of recreations. One picture shows a sign that likes like it leads to other signs to discover what they ruins are, but when you go to those numbers places, there is nothing. VIP? Huh?
They had things set up for concerts in the evening. That sounds kind of cool, but the modern equipment detracts from the history. Well so far, it was one of the few places in Lyon I've seen without graffiti everywhere. We walked down to a boulangerie, grabbed lunch and ate in the theater, a fun day.

There was a lot of construction going on, but it was a cool site. Don’t miss the museum (I think it was 8€ per adult). It is a beautiful architectural design where you start at the top and wind your way down through the exhibits. The lowest level has a kids play area / discovery zone too. Many of the descriptions are only in French so you can use your iPhone camera to take pictures and use the text translate function to read the descriptions if desired.

Great museum for adults and kids. The cost is low €4.5 per adult from memory. I had pre-booked audio guides in French and English for a group of 11 at no extra cost. The quality of the sound was good and the explanations very informative. The building itself is amazing, the museum very well organised over 5 floors, it has well signed stations to start playing your audio guide (a kid version is even made available), and there are many interactive stations to entertain and educative kids and adults.

We took the venicular up to the Basicila and then walked the 400m to the ruins.
These are so intact and truly exceptional. There is also a museum on site that you pay to enter, but was not open today. We visited on a Monday.
We walked back through the town and took in the stunning views back to the old town.

Beautiful ruins and view out over the city. It does feel a little surreal to be able to walk and climb amongst something so ancient.
I love that performances and cultural events still make use of the ampitheatre, but some of the modern installations do detract from the authenticity. I wish more thought was put into how they might be integrated less clumsily - like how the nearby museum is built into the hills.

A beautiful Roman amphitheater on the hill next to Lyon. Entrance is free and best way to get here is the furnicular to the Church at the top of the hill. It's a short walk down the street. We were fortunate that our visit to this archaeological site in October 2023 coincided with a special festival of Roman civilization that takes place once every two years.
It was an incredible experience that offered us a deep insight into the components of the Roman camp, the organizational structure of life within it, and the diverse range of handicrafts that accompanied these camps to fulfill the needs of soldiers and officers.
We witnessed fascinating demonstrations, from blacksmithing to leather tanning to weaving, which showcased the ingenuity and skill of the ancient Romans.

The main idea I had is that the museum deserves greater laud. It has 3 main cathegories: paintings, sculptures, and fine art, I can say goods. It's not too big, not too hard to understand the idea, and with important historical periods and art directions. This is the museum for different "grades" of observing and enjoing. You know...I would like to come again, so you should come too, and ✔️ your first time.

This museum definitely worth a visit. From modern paintings to ancient Egyptian mummies. Consider spending minimum 3 to 4 hours. I knew that the Musée des Beaux-Arts de Lyon offered the largest art collection outside of Paris. And yet I seriously underestimated the length of the tour through the halls of this beautiful 17th century abbey. The ticket price alone would justify the walk around the amazing building. It's good to know that access to the heavenly inner garden is completely free. The museum is literally in the heart of the city. Next to it is the Bartholdi Fountain and Lyon City Hall.
My friend was disappointed by the lack of world-famous masterpieces. I, on the other hand, happily went through the cultural history of five millennia. I paid particular attention to the works of Rubens, Rembrandt, Rodin, Gauguin and van Gogh.
The Museum of Fine Arts met me with artifacts from every single major civilization from antiquity to the present day. This is probably the most valuable jewel in Lyon.

This museum has a good selection of items split into 3 main areas: 1) sculptures, 2) artifacts (featuring many from Ancient Egypt / Greece / Roman Empire), and 3) artworks (from the usual abundance of Christianity works, to classical scenes and portraits including works by Claude Monet, to some more modern paintings). Takes about 2.5-3 hours to see everything at a wandering pace. Easy to navigate with free maps available. Only French information next to objects/paintings, though the titles are translated to English where applicable. €8 entry seemed reasonable to me. Café was expensive (€5 for a cappuccino or can of coke), but most cafés in Lyon are expensive. Free lockers available. I would recommend it to those that enjoy looking around museums/galleries, or if the weather is bad.

Beautiful museum and home of the famous Perseus vs. Medusa statue. In this interpretation Perseus is right about to behead Medusa, and you can see the pain and horror in her eyes. In contrast, Perseus appears focused and committed in finishing the task, and there is no sense of remorse. Compare this statue to the one in Florence where Perseus has already beheaded Medusa and is raising her head in victory.

The Mur des Canuts is a colossal fresco of a silk-weaving neighborhood in Lyon, France that is one of the largest in Europe. The mural has been revised several times to reflect changes made to the nearby structures and is now a popular tourist attraction.
This is a wonderful and detailed mural painting in Lyon. Starting with an idea to use the mural paintings to decorate a huge blind facade and its advertising hoarding in 1986, and after a couple of times to record the new changes, Mur des Canuts turned out a famous picture spot in Lyon time by time. I highly recommend this as a place to visit, it’s definitely worth the time to go there.

We took the train to visit this very impressive mural.
It's hard to believe it's a painting as you are walking up the street as it has an amazing 3D affect.
The wall is actually flat (it's the back of an apartment block) but the mural gives the illusion of stairs, multiple buildings, trees and even people.
It is very cleverly done and I would recommend seeing it yourself if you are visiting Lyon. There are not many examples in the world as good as this one.

This is a must do and I would encourage the walk up to see small pieces of wall art along the way from the lower part of the city. Art installations like these being so much vibrancy to the area. Also if your in need of a caffeine boost after walking burning cat cafe in the area is a great place.

Murs de Canuts in Lyon is seriously mind-blowing! This place has this massive fresco showcasing rebellious silk workers from way back in the 1800s. It's like stepping into history with a splash of art!
I was left in total awe. If you dig Lyon's past and love cool art stuff, you gotta check it out.

This mural is amazing! 10 ish stories tall, on the side of a flat building. Looks 3D! We had to go up to the building to see if it was actually flat. Metro line C gets you within 1/2 a block.

Wonderful painting located on a wall in Lyon. I visited two times and it looks always beautiful. You can reach by Metro and nearest station is Hénon. It is open area, can be visited at anytime. I recommend to visit if you haven't watched any large mural painting yet.

Very impressive mural, and incredibly well detailed. The characters in the mural look very real and the activities they do are relevant to the current day. The murals are redone every decade or so in order to reflect the current architecture styles, and themes of the day. For example, the walls done recently have a theme of sustainability (as seen by the wall gardens, which look very real by the way). Will definitely recommend a visit if you are around

Unique and Captivating spot
The Mur des Canuts is primarily recognized as a historical landmark, as it features a beautiful mural showcasing the city's history. The ambiance of the place is quite charming, as you can feel the authenticity of the city's culture within its walls. The staff were friendly and attentive, making me feel right at home.
While my experience was overall quite positive, there were a few areas where I felt improvements could be made. For example, the service could be a bit quicker during peak hours, and the seating arrangements could be more comfortable. However, these minor issues did not detract too much from my overall experience.
What truly sets Mur des Canuts apart from other establishments is its unique historical significance and cultural importance. The mural is a beautiful work of art that truly captures the essence of Lyon's rich history. I would highly recommend visiting this spot, as it truly is a one-of-a-kind experience.
In terms of suggestions for improvement, I would recommend the owners invest in more comfortable seating arrangements and perhaps offer more diverse menu options. These minor changes could help attract more customers and enhance the overall experience.
I would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking to explore Lyon's rich history and culture.
Fresque des Lyonnais is a huge painting on the side of a building in Lyon that portrays famous people from the city. It's an incredible trompe-loeil painting that was created between 1994 and 1995 by various artists from the Cite de la Creation.
Quaint and unique this windowless building facade has been transformed to a pictorial history of Lyon!

The Gallo-Roman Museum of Lyon-Fourvière is a museum in Lyon, France, with a large collection of art, pottery and coins from the Roman period. The permanent collections are set within an impressive archeological site on the heights of Fourvière hill.
Great museum! Astonishing view to the amphitheater!!
In December 2021 there was a temporary exhibition about power in Roman times... amazing work!!
Unlike the Beaux Arts museum this does have descriptions in English which I highly appreciated.
Overall, this is a must visit museum in Lyon.

Great theatres, great museum, great view, great place overall. Cheap museum (4€/person) but with more to see than most have energy for. Excellent exhibition with one small exception and that is very small signs and not consistent in english. The theatres outdoor may be missing a lot of structures compared to for an example the theater in Orange but you can still imagine the grandeur they once had. Overall a must visit if you like history/Roman time

A must if in Lyon, even if high on the hills. The museum is beautiful by itself, all architecture enthusiasts should visit. Amazing historical objects! This collections are reasonably well organized and extremely adapted to children in the cutest way possible. Unfortunately, only accessible in English for Adults, while the games for children are all in French. Museum has some accessibility: touch figurines, ramps and elevator. If in hold of a City Card (2023) it’s a guarantee of free pass. My complains are about the not so warm reception with tourists - the classical French stereotype of dismay. Also the very few working hours, which are also typical for France. Ten minutes before the closing it’s announced on the speaker that you should start going to the nearest exit, however, in my case, minutes before the time, the main exit was already closed and the other ones very hard to locate, since the attendants insist on speak French even when they know English it’s a bit hard to ask for help. However, it’s still a must visit if you go to the ruins of the theater cos of the beautiful models and explanations they have for what the place looked like at its prime.

An interesting museum on the history of Roman settlement in Lyon. Organized in a spiral downwards, there was tons of artifacts, such as beautiful mosaics and old roman art.
At only five euros, they was plenty of information on the daily life of the Romans in this area and why they settled it.
Lots of little activities for kids as well. Overall, it was a very informative museum with lots to see. Plus it was directly overlooking the Odeon. The museum bottom floor exits to the odean as well, which was pretty cool.
Overall, definitely worth seeing. It may not have been the largest museum on Rome I've seen, but it was definitely one of the better organized ones.

The museum's location atop the Fourvière Hill provides a breathtaking panoramic view of Lyon, setting the stage for an enriching experience.
Inside, the exhibits are a treasure trove of artifacts, sculptures, and archaeological finds from the Roman era.
The highlight of my visit was the remarkably preserved Roman theater, which is part of the museum complex.
The museum also offers interactive displays and multimedia presentations that bring history to life, making it engaging for visitors of all ages.
The staff at the museum were friendly and knowledgeable, readily sharing insights and stories about the exhibits.
In conclusion, the Gallo-Roman Museum of Lyon-Fourvière is a must-visit for history enthusiasts and anyone curious about Lyon's ancient past.

Really amazing to learn about Romans founded Lyon and the artefacts and mosaic were immaculately preserved. So many things to see and one can easily spend hours here. Tip: Bring own bottle of water. I haven’t expected I’d be spending such a long time here. But there were no places inside to get a drink. Understandably since it’s a museum, but definitely will bring my own bottle next time.

Surprisingly large and well organised museum that looks a bit dull from the outside. Once inside, which is free for seniors, there is a long ramp that brings you down to the lowest level.
On the way, there are many interesting items on display, like sculptures and large mosaic floors.
On the side there are large windows where you get a good view of the theater outside.
That theater has free entry for all and is huge. There is a smaller theater which was used for music or oratory performances

Lots of cool ancient Roman texts, sculptures, bowls and especially the mosaics. The Lego exhibit was really well done with various builds alongside actual exhibits, it’s a good way to show what the past looked like and also engage the younger audience.

The Gallo-Roman Museum in Lyon-Fourvière is a must-visit for history enthusiasts. Spread across several floors, the museum takes visitors on a journey through Lyon’s Roman past, with exhibits showcasing everything from intricate mosaics and sculptures, to ancient coins and weapons. The highlight is undoubtedly the restored 2nd-century theater, which is still used for concerts and events today. The museum also offers guided tours and workshops for children. Overall, a fascinating and well-curated insight into Lyon’s rich heritage. France was an important part of the Roman Empire, known as Gaul at the time. Julius Caesar conquered Gaul in 58-50 BCE, and it became a key territory of the empire until the collapse of Roman influence in the 5th century CE. Many Roman ruins can be found throughout France, including the famous Pont du Gard aqueduct and the amphitheater in Nimes. The Romans left a lasting impact on French culture, including the use of Latin in language and law, and the development of a centralized government system. The Roman Empire had a significant presence in Lyon, which was known as Lugdunum during Roman times. Lyon was the capital of the Roman province of Gallia Lugdunensis and served as an important political, economic, and cultural center. It became a major hub for trade and had several Roman structures, including a theater, amphitheater, and aqueduct. Lyon continued to thrive even after the fall of the Western Roman Empire and played a crucial role in the Middle Ages and beyond. Today, traces of its Roman past can still be seen in the city's architecture and archaeological sites

Really beautiful facility! There’s always a lot going on there. When we were there, they were setting up for a concert and the band was sound checking. Our friends have been there before and got to see a real mock Roman sword fight! The history is really incredible and the facilities are in great shape. This location is free to enter and no tickets are required.

This was a really great museum; one of the best museum experiences I've ever had. The layout was great, and the special exhibition of the Legos is a really great addition.
The Parc de la Tête d'Or (Parc of the Golden Head) is a large park in central Lyon with many different attractions, including a lake and rose gardens. It's a great place to spend a day walking and enjoying the fresh air.
Maybe the most beautiful city park I have ever seen.
There are a large variety of spaces for people to just stop and enjoy. If you stop in a quiet place and look up, you might see some squirrels in the trees.
It's also great for walkers and runners.
Dogs are allowed (except in the zoo part, but we saw some anyway) and it's a great place for them, with big green parts to run and play.
The zoo part of the park is really cool: the entrance is free, the animals are well-cared and their spaces are large and complex enough for them to live in it. We only saw one animal that seemed very stressed, but it was probably because of some visitors that weren't respecting the calm attitude the zoo ask to have near the animals. Also, the zoo makes an effort to be transparent about the way it functions and the choices it makes.

Beautiful park with a beautiful iconic golden gate at the main entrance. Inside there is a beautiful lake, lovely gardens, zebras and giraffes, plenty of ducks, and playgrounds for children. There's a shaded path around the lake. You can walk around the whole lake pretty much in an hour, or you can hire the quad bikes to ride around. I only had a few days in Lyon and wasn't sure about spending time in a park, but now that I have been, I think it was a wonderful choice.

A nice strong away from the touristy environment of Lyon you reach this tranquil and large park with many activities. A beautiful park with many large gate entrances. Very surprised there is a zoo that is free to the public - but don’t expect to see exotic animals…the central pond is just relaxing, the botanic garden is a boast for the flower and plant enthusiasts. Really enjoyed and visited it a few times as it’s also close to the museum of contemporary arts.

After lunch we were surprised to learn that the zoo is free. There is also a beautiful botanic garden. We didn't have time to take a boat on the lake, ride the little train or do any of the other activities we spotted. Would definitely go back when next in Lyon.

The Lyon Cathedral is a large, Gothic-style building that was built in the 1300s. The eastern end of the cathedral contains the apse and the choir, while the nave and facade are in Gothic style. The cathedral also contains a treasury museum with objects from different periods in history, as well as an astronomical clock from the 14th century.
An amazing cathedral in a top spot for the view over the city. Even if you are not interested for the catholic building you definitely want to take a look in Lyon from above. Great sunset or even better sunrise, a small cafeteria for a break, but take notice for the thousands of people visiting in vacation periods. The lift in the metro station can easily take you up, and if you feel like walking, the path leading down has graphic spots for nice pictures.

Beautiful, historic building on top of a mountain in Lyon. It offers beautifully detailed artwork especially looking at the colourful windows and amazing architectural details. - The fact that it is situated on top of a hill also creates an unmatched view onto Lyon. A beautiful old church with a lot of history, but not quite as elaborate as the Bascillica on the hill that overlooks it.
We were treated to an organ practice which made the experience even more enjoyable.
Make sure you visit in the afternoon, as the sun streaming through the stained glass windows provides the most amazing light and patterns on the beautiful columns.
Visiting in the afternoon does mean there are more people around.
Don't forget to look up to admire the ceiling too.

The origins of this cathedral go back to the 12th century when it was built in the place of three smaller churches and a cloister.

Vieux Lyon is located on the banks of the Saône River and features historic mansions with terracotta-tiled roofs and hidden courtyards. Mini World Lyon is an indoor tourist attraction that showcases intricately designed miniature models of both urban and natural environments. It's an ideal spot for families with children, as there are a plethora of small yet intricate details to explore and enjoy. The exhibition features light and music shows, and the displays continue to expand over time. With easy access from the nearby commercial center's free parking lot, visitors can spend hours exploring the exhibits regardless of their language skills; all miniatures have descriptions in French and English.
Myself and my kids loved this small, quirky museum. You could easily spend a long time here because there are so many details to explore. The creators of the mini worlds have a brilliant and bonkers sense of humour - some of the scenes are hilarious with random penguins, dinosaurs and monkeys scattered around, and people in compromising situations. An added bonus is the 3d cinema showing 2 short films. Free entry with the Leon City Card.
Also very quiet - probably because it's a bit out of the city centre.

I came here because it was included in the Lyon City Card and I enjoyed my time here (even though it seems like it’s more for kids). They have a lot of displays with miniature dolls and scenes. They even give you a booklet to try to find all the popular ones like Marilyn Monroe, Aliens, Mary Poppins, Harry Potter, Nemo, Jurassic Park, etc. I wouldn’t come here again alone (as an adult), but I would definitely come here with kids and easily spend 2h: trying to find all the characters. It also wasn't crowded when I came during the weekend.
Alex — Google review
I'm absolutely obsessed with this place! In terms of square meters, it's not really that big. However, because the displays are made of miniatures, there's so much to see. I thought I would maybe spend 30-45 minutes here, but before I knew it, two hours had passed by. There are so many interesting and silly details to explore in the displays, such as someone hanging on for dear life off a derailed roller coaster cart and a murder scene in an apartment building. The mini Lyon feature is amazing. It has all the important Lyon landmarks, although some stuff isn't geographically correct, but who cares when it's all there and accurately depicted. If you're a local, the annual pass is totally worth it because it's just a hair over two times the cost of one adult admission. This is a family-friendly place, but adults will enjoy it as much as the kids will.

Quite an amazing place, not what we expected. Great quality of the miniatures and the diorama. Attention to details is visible. Lot's of funny elements too. Worth a visit. Takes about 2 hours to see it all.

Look no further for a super entertain the kids on a wet afternoon adventure. It's anybody who ever had a model railway dream trip out but it's also created with stunning attention to detail and a sense of humour in the "who is where and with whom" miniature crowds (expect film stars, musical heros, Disney characters even Telly Tubbies in a golf-cart!). Enough to keep keen eyed adults busy. The moving parts are not just model trains but vehicles, ski lifts, dancers and scaters too.
Every 20-minutes the whole exhibition goes from dawn to dusk and tiny streetlights, car headlights and illuminated hoardings plus night skies reveal a new vision of mini world.
Finally, a three set display of Lyon's landmarks that gets a fête de la lumiere display at night.
Decent WCs, free lockers, stroller parking area and a café inside.
Don't miss,...look over the controllers' shoulders at all the CCTV cameras, as several screens give the view from the trains.
Visit time, allow at least a couple of hours. And, it's a short walk from the T3 tram.

Is beautiful in the day and better in the night. Highly recommend to all travellers. The colors are spectacular in night. A lovely neighborhood full of shops, restaurants/bouchons, buildings with French flair and museums. I would love in this neighborhood if I lived here! Great spot to wander. Lots of shopping, restaurants, fountains, places, museums, etc. Metro line runs the length so it is easy to get around. Great central location for exploring Lyon.

This 5-star hotel is located in the heart of Lyon, and features a chic restaurant and a casual bistro. It also has a spa with an indoor pool.
Great location in Old Town Lyon, with a nice companion restaurant next door (one of the worst pours by the glass; better buy the bottle). Rooms vary significantly but share lovely attributes. Staff is all-out service oriented. Don't miss peaceful garden terrace on top floor.

This place was super quirky but had a lot of good things going for it. The location is right in the center of the old city with a ton of classic Lyonnais restaurants in every direction, as well as plenty of patisseries, gift shops, and the marionettes museums.
The building itself is VERY Lyon, with the classic stacked staircases look you'll see throughout the old city and its traboules.
But the rooms are weird. We stayed in one of the Ateliers suites. Ours was film themed. It was strange that the bathroom was along the staircase to the master bedroom, like you walked past the sink and drying off area. But then the toilet was downstairs without a sink.
And there seems to be many technical issues. Ours was that the internet barely worked. There was one area my iPhone would work, but my wife's Android wouldn't connect from anywhere. Other reviews also seem to indicate that air conditioning is not reliable (but we came in November).
Making up for it all though is the service. The concierge was great. The bar had excellent cocktails. The restaurant is renowned.
I am happy we stayed here but in the future I'd probably stay someplace more updated, probably in the 1st arrondissement, where it would be easier to explore the entire city.

Beautiful building, very unique and sexy rooms (albeit some may think they're slightly claustrophobic and in need of refreshing), great service, and the best location. Really, the location simply can't be beat.
The downside is that many of the rooms badly need renovation, especially since some don't have a shower (!!!) and the spa could use some renovation as well. I was told that Raddison is going to renovate soon. I'd be interested in staying again, but only after that happens, only if the room has a shower, and only if the price is comparable to a 4-star hotel, as that's what this hotel actually should be called.
Note that parking is expensive and they don't tell you about that in advance. There's not anywhere else close to the hotel to park, since it's in the old area closed to cars.

Came to this hotel after a terrible choice prior and we are so glad we did. The hotel had a beautiful ambiance, historic and welcoming all the same. The rooms are unique, clean and comfortable. The location is unbeatable in the heart of the old village.
The staff was wonderful. Special shout out to Lucy at reception who made our experience possible.
Great experience and I would return in a heartbeat.

Awful location.
The hotel itself is fitted inside of an old “historical” building. It doesn’t make for a pleasant environment. While the location is in the old town, the hotel is cramped in one of Vieux Villes shady backstreets. This means no view, no natural light and difficult to access by car. For the price this is unacceptable. Rooms were clean however and the staff were friendly. I am impressed they managed 5 stars.

We booked a suite but upon arrival we were informed that all the suites were taken. They gave us another room that was dusty. The bedroom and sink were upstairs but the toilet was downstairs. It had an improvised shower that was tiny. We all left with a terrible allergy.
Don’t be fooled this is NOT a 5 star hotel.

The Musée Lumiere is a museum dedicated to the Lumière brothers, who invented cinematography in Lyon at the end of the 19th century. The museum contains exhibits on both Louis Lumiere and his brother Auguste, as well as on their work in film production. Among the artifacts on display are some of the earliest films ever made, and pieces from Louis Lumiere's personal collection.
Very interesting! Specially for some super high resolution pictures taken more than 100 years ago!

An incredibly thoughtful and well-done museum that pays homage to the Lumière brothers and their establishment of modern cinematography. Housed in the most beautiful villa, the museum educates thoroughly without being boring and features really cool pre-camera innovations. You also get to enjoy some of the Lumière brothers’ films. A perfect way to spend a few hours. There’s also a cafe in the venue and a lush green park for chilling in the sun.

This museum successfully captures the excitement and joy of the discovery of cinematography. A journey worth taking. I have visited it every 10 years three times already, and am always struck by the visual recordings of a time predating, and heralding, ours that's revealed in beautifully composed, endearing and sometimes a little disturbing detail. The advent of modernity and the immense changes in society that are looming on the horizon are fascinating to see through the eyes of these gifted inventors.
Top recommendation!

If you don’t speak French, you NEED an audio guide. There are some small descriptions with exhibits but they’re written in French.
Would’ve been nice if there were more storytelling around the history of their inventions and the family.
Ground floor is about their inventions. Upper floor is more about the family.
Don’t forget to visit the cafe and bookshop across the road. The cafe is charming during summer - you can sit outside.

An absolute must see if you care about the moving image. The Lumiere bros were so much more than the first films. They cracked open 3d in 1920 and you can see the images. They cracked open technology to take pictures instantly bringing mid air poses. The brothers invented a surgical dressing that would help healing without tearing skin or tissues in 1910s (only stopped being manufactured in 2007), a mechanical hand for the 1918 war survivors which sold 5000 but without taking a penny, brought beds in their homes for the wounded, had factories employing 100s of people... an amazing museum beautifully kept and curated, filled with facts, movies, images and all in French and English with a really good recorded audio guide if needed. The Lumiere villa setting helps too. Fantastic and an absolute must see

Lyons famous indoor food market offers around 60 stalls selling unique foodie treats making it a great place to get some fresh meats and bread for a picnic during summer or join locals for a leisurely brunch on Sundays. Compared to other markets, Les Halles de Lyon Paul Bocuse is more specific about what vendors will be there so you can be sure of getting the best items.
Such a great experience to walk around and see the most amazing French foods! We visited many of the fresh produce stalls and wished to be staying someplace where we could cook! It's absolutely inspiring to see all these amazing ingredients. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. Will be back again next time and highly recommend everyone to make a visit.

There are plenty of options to eat and buy food related items, but it still feels like it's missing something.

Located in the charming and peaceful Place des Jacobins, Le Coin Vert is a restaurant surrounded by elegant 19th-century townhouses and an intricate white fountain adorned with stunning sculptures. This tranquil square is somewhat hidden from the bustling tourist paths but remains conveniently located near major shopping districts. The area features an array of restaurants and cafes that offer visitors a chance to relax while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

The location is amazing, and the food very delicious, but the staff, especially those two older waiters absolutely disrespecting. They were busy so they said wait there 5 minutes, so we waited, and after 3 tables were free they cleaned them and gave first to other people which came after even if they looked at us, said nothing until we went and talked with them again. Then they came and always talked with their nose up in the sky, disrespectful and talking with a superiority which asked more for a slap than to order something, probably because we weren’t from France or i don’t know why. So yeah, i don’t know if all their waiters are like that, but horrible people, can’t say much more.

Small square with an interesting fountain in the middle. It is a bit hidden from tourist paths, so it is not as crowded as the other plazas/squares in Lyon. Nice square, beautiful fountain, plenty of shops, and close to Bellecour. Nothing to complain about here.
Rue Saint-Jean is a pedestrian road in Vieux Lyon that features various shops and restaurants. This street, which is named after the Saint-Jean cathedral, used to be the primary thoroughfare of the area. It leads north from Place St-Jean to Place du Change, where money changers operated during ancient times. With its cobblestoned path and charming establishments, Rue Saint-Jean serves as a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike.
Rue du Bœuf, located parallel to Rue St-Jean, is a charming street in Lyon known for its architectural features such as traboules, courtyards, spiral staircases, towers, and facades. One notable traboule can be found at No. 31 on this picturesque street.
Bellecour Square, also known as Place Bellecour, is a vast and tree-lined public square in Lyon, France. The square features flower stalls and a small art museum, as well as an ice rink during the colder months. It is located at the heart of Lyon and is popular for local festivals and outdoor concerts. Several statues lining the square are worthy of attention, including an 19th-century sculpture of King Louis XIV seated on horseback.
Very spacious square where you can have a sit and relax there. with the view of the city streets around. The statue of King Louis XIV on the back of his horse is in the middle of the square. It is a huge statue bigger than real life scales. A lot of pigeons in the square here and there in case someone likes them or wants to avoid them keep it in mind.

So disappointed!!!
Christmas with NO Christmas tree nor any Christmas lights to be seen anywhere in the Belcour square and in Lyon for that matter, only the big wheel and half a dozen big balls were lit, nothing related to Christmas. NO Christmas lights other than in one street and all this during the Festival de la Lumière! Really? What a disappointment! Even the Festival of lights projected on buildings was disappointed in comparison to 7 years ago. It seems it has lost its way.
The only one thing that was still well organised was the crowd control.
For me, it is no longer worth flying in or traveling any distance nor to pay for expensive hotels or Airbnb's for that very poor show.
I heard quite a few comments about the ecological mayor... my message to him, if you can't do a Festival of light with clean energy, then don't do one at all. Please don't take tourists for more stupid than we are.

For being the main square in Lyon, I have to admit it really sucks! It's empty, it's literally impossible to find any benches, it's filled with some kind of strange sand that doesn't make any sense at all. I don't really find any sense of the existence of this square!! The only good thing is that it is very convenient from a transport point of view

The Musée des Tissus et des Arts Décoratifs houses the world's largest collection of textiles, including 2.5 million pieces from throughout history. The museum is located in two 18th-century townhouses, one of which is used as a hotel. It showcases Lyon's history as the capital of the silk industry and presents an international collection of textiles dating back to antiquity.

A nice museum! I really enjoyed the focus on the Lyon silks in the Musée des Tissus. The Napoleonic-Era clothes were very interesting, and the temporary exhibits were fascinating and impressively-curated. The history behind everything was well-documented and accessible. The Decorative Arts were really interesting too, though I found the crowded arrangement of each room a little overwhelming and things were not clearly labeled.
I would recommend this museum to people who are curious about the fabric history of France and Lyon. If you're short on time and are not interested in textiles or the process and the products, I would suggest checking out some of Lyon's other museums first. That said, I've been to many museums in Lyon... if you know what to expect and have the time to come by, you certainly won't lose anything from the experience. A fascinating, unique museum experience. Again, really enjoyed the temporary exhibit.

A Majestic Gem in Lyon -
I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Hotel de Ville Lyon in Lyon and I must say, it left me absolutely mesmerized! This stunning building is a testament to the grandeur of French architecture and is truly a sight to behold.
The ambiance of the Hotel de Ville Lyon is simply breathtaking, from the ornate details of the exterior to the sophisticated elegance of the interior. The service was top-notch and the staff were always friendly and accommodating.
The rooms were spacious, well-maintained, and equipped with all the necessary amenities to make your stay comfortable. The quality of the products and services offered was impressive, ensuring that guests get their money's worth.
The only criticism I have is that the food in the hotel's restaurant was a little underwhelming, which is why I deducted one star from my rating. However, the restaurant's ambiance made up for it, and the drinks were fantastic!
What makes Hotel de Ville Lyon truly special is its rich history and unique features that set it apart from other hotels in the area. The grand staircase, chandeliers, and exquisite artwork all add to the hotel's charm.
My impression of Hotel de Ville Lyon was so positive that I would encourage the owners to offer discounts or other incentives to loyal customers.
If you're visiting Lyon, be sure to make Hotel de Ville Lyon a part of your itinerary. It's an experience you won't soon forget.

Bartholdi Fountain is a famous sculpture in Lyon, France. It is made of copper and iron and it was unveiled in 1892. The fountain stands on Place des Terreaux, which is the most emblematic place in Lyon. The restoration of the fountain was completed in March 2018.
Fountaine Bartholdi! It is the most magnificent fountain I have ever seen! And very interesting history! The fountain was meant to be for Bordeaux in 1857 but somehow it was sold to Lyon and it’s been there since 1892. The female symbolizes France and and she’s on a chariot controlling the four rivers of France. It is a masterpiece by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi who also designed the Statue of Liberty.

As I approached the fountain, I was immediately struck by its graceful design and the sense of serenity it exuded. The fountain's intricate details and the sculpture of Liberty Enlightening the World (the same sculptor created the Statue of Liberty) were truly captivating.
The sound of flowing water added to the soothing ambiance, making it a perfect spot to take a moment and appreciate the artistry of Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi.
Located in a charming square, the Bartholdi Fountain offers a delightful escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. It's a place where you can sit and unwind, enjoying the play of water as you reflect on the beauty of the sculpture.

The Bartholdi Fountain in Lyon is a beautiful and iconic fountain located in the heart of the city. Designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi, who also created the Statue of Liberty, the fountain is a stunning work of art that's definitely worth a visit.
The fountain's central sculpture depicts France as a woman holding a torch aloft, surrounded by a group of cherubs and animals. The intricate details and beautiful design make it a true masterpiece of art and engineering.
The location of the fountain, in the Place des Terreaux, is also worth noting. The square is a vibrant and lively place, with plenty of shops, restaurants, and bars in the surrounding area. It's a great place to people-watch, relax, and take in the sights and sounds of Lyon.
Overall, the Bartholdi Fountain is a must-see attraction in Lyon. Whether you're a fan of art and sculpture, or just looking for a beautiful and peaceful place to relax, this fountain is sure to impress. Highly recommended!

The square where this fountain is was already a hive of activity when we arrived. Located at this square is also Hotel de Ville with its gold adorned roof.
Surrounding the square on 3 sides are restaurants, cafes and shops. On another side is the museum.
The fountain itself is a great piece of art. The horses are so life like. The expressions on each of the horses’ are different. Take a closer look at the hooves. They are unlike any I have seen with claw like protrusions. 🤔
After your photo opportunities, have a drink at one of the many cafes and take in the scenes and the people walking by. That’s before you embark on your tour to see the rest of the city.
Make sure you put on your most comfortable pair of walking shoes. There are lots to see in Lyon.

A beautiful tourist attraction with a beaux de art museum just opposite to it. The carving is so fine and marvellous but the fountain water was not clean. Plastic and alcohol bottles were floating in the fountain, spoiling the beauty of the place.
People should have this basic courtesy to not throw waste in the fountain and maintain the ethnicity of the place.

I visited here in 2017 and the fountain was being renovated and was surrounded by scaffolding. I returned in July 2022 just to see the finished renovation. Absolutely worth the effort - a magnificent series od bronze sculptures, especially the prancing horses. Highly recommended

It is quite comfortable to have a cup of coffee in some of the options one can find in this site while beholding the square, the buildings and the fountain; perfect to spend time with friends or family and enjoy a casual chat surrounded by such a beautiful architecture. Recommendable undoubtedly.
The museum La Maison des Canuts in Lyons covers the history of silk production in the city from the 6th century to the present day. The exhibits tell the story of Lyon's once-prominent silk weaving industry, which was once one of Europe's largest and most successful businesses. The museum features authentic ancient equipment and artifacts, as well as interactive displays that allow visitors to explore how silk is produced and what it takes to create fine garments.
Interesting museum, I'd recommend sticking around for the demo (note the demo is only in French). The offerings are a little limited for an English speaker but they give you a laminated guide at the beginning with English translations of the exhibit which helps a lot. Pretty small museum but a lot of content.
Ivy Antunes — Google review
This is NOT much of a museum but is more a shop with some old artifacts. There is no active weaving and they give you cards to learn yourself. I expected something more but only costs 2 euros. Shop has lovely items.

General silk Museum just 2€ each entry. Fascinating exhibition about development of silk trade, threads and cloth in Lyon
Andrew — Google review
For a delve into the history of the silk industry of Lyon it is well worth a visit to La Maison des Canuts. Aside from the gorgeous scarves and shawls they have (100% made in Lyon) there is a lovely collection of old pieces, from looms and spindles to the tiny tools of the trade from the early ateliers. The staff are lovely, very helpful and knowledgable about their products, and the history of silk in their beloved Lyon.
Cathy Evatt-Davey — Google review
A very interesting museum retracing the history of Lyon’s once-prominent silk weaving industry. The museum features some of the ancient authentic equipment.
Our guide (of Brazilian origin) spoke very good English.
There is a shop by the exit stocking some beautiful silk scarves and other clothing items.

A bit pricey but various range of choices for silk products, especially for scarfs.

This was awful. Very small display. We saw larger in shops. They permitted a group of school children to line up to use the one toilet
It is difficult to get to and not worth the trip. Do not go
Harry Graham — Google review
Fascinating but short tour. Very little English in the “English ticket” tour — as advertised. A bit difficult to get to. Staff was helpful. Their site may need a bit more info to clarify how much English is provided; as you can see, many customers were confused, not just us. Hopefully they do not reply to this review in the same way as many other reviewers (as doing the same thing will only get the same result).

Interesting to find out how the silk weaving looms worked and some of the history. Not very English friendly though. Felt a bit second class because we didn’t speak French. English explanations were very brief and the guide’s attitude made us think we were inconveniencing him.
Kylie Perry — Google review
The museum is nicely made and focuses on the history of the workers and the revolution. Maybe we should have waited for the guide to walk us through and explain the things
Christian Orellano — Google review
It was interesting but as an English speaker -even though the tour was advertised as in English, only about half of it was English. Second half was all French. It was interesting to see the looms though and the demonstration of how jacquard is woven was pretty amazing. And the shop next door had some beautiful silk scarves and other silk items.
Pat Harris — Google review
Great insight into Lyon's silk weaving heritage. Including a demonstration of weaving on a historical machine. Very interesting. Partially in English but sufficient.
Bruce T — Google review
The museum itself is fine, but leaves much to be desired in terms of content. All the exhibits are in French, but you are offered a translation booklet in English when you enter. I was very hopeful for the tour, but 90% was in French with little to no translation.

Recommended for understanding the societal impact of silk weaving industry in Lyon during the early industrialization period. The riches and heyday, exploitation of silk-workers resulting in large scale rebellions and finally coming to the end of an era.

The Lyon Zoo is a large and expansive zoo that houses a variety of different animals from all over the world. It is great for families to visit and is especially popular among kids. The zoo also features a big botanical garden, public bathrooms, and lots of green spaces to relax in.
Great place for kids to see quite interesting animals

Wonderful free zoo in Lyon’s largest park. You can see the whole thing easily in two hours. Monkeys, big cats, giraffes , flamingoes, birds, reptiles, zebras, and more. Vendors selling snacks, hot and cold drinks, plenty of benches, and virtually flat terrain. Clean and well maintained enclosures, and attractive landscaping. There are a number of empty exhibits, but for free admission it’s impossible to complain.
Jason Randal — Google review
I have no idea how any one could give this place less than 5 stars. It is a free zoo which follows the best possible practices for the circumstances such as having animals who were born into captivity and can’t be released into the wild safely and easily. The animals as well are provided plenty of space to roam and are given shelter from bad weather or humans if they want. As well they had monkeys, giraffes, flamingos and many more animals to see. I went Christmas Day and it was not only open but had plenty of animals out and about

The park is huge. One can spend an entire day there without getting slightly bored.
The zoo is magnificent with a lot of different animals from all over the world.
Had a great time roaming this park.
Zahi Ismail — Google review
Absolutely terrible exploiting wild animals caging them in tiny spaces like this, especially the leopard all alone, they look miserable. Seriously shocked at how small the spaces are. Even then, it doesn’t matter, because it’s not okay, they should be roaming free in the wild, not abused. What did they ever do to us... Seriously makes me wonder how advanced humanity really is when they lock up natures most incredible animals merely to look at them. Can’t believe zoos still exist. Release them back to their natural habitat.
Chloe Saffron — Google review
Although small.. its has a variety of animals that are fun to see. Walking around is easy and nice.
Ward Makhoul — Google review
Very interesting for humans but sad for animals like the giraffes and zebras. I saw 3 magnificent giraffes pacing anxiously in their tiny enclosure, twirling their necks around and breathing warm air onto the glass walls, and looking morosely at me (not sure if they’re locked up in the glass enclosure because the zoo is closed today). I feel so sorry we humans have done this to them. Not sure this is good education for the little ones. Wish more space were appropriated from the abundant enjoyable open space for humans in this beautiful park to serve as basic moving room for these big animals which are used to roaming free on the expansive plains of Africa. Free 4 humans but not free at all for wildlife

Kinda not smart to go here in 37°C. Both I and the animals were hiding in the shadows. Unfortunately I didn't look it up beforehand because it seemed to be some sort of renovation ongoing. The Musée d'art contemporain de Lyon is a contemporary art museum located in Lyon, France. The museum showcases a rotating collection of post-1960 art, and often closes for several weeks between exhibitions so check the website to make sure there's currently no exhibition open when you're in town. It's small but nicely designed, and worth checking out if you're in the area.
I really enjoyed my visit. The museum was not crowded, and the exhibitions were thoughtfully laid out. Recommend!

The museum venue and location is very nice. The staff were friendly. The admission is steep for what is on site, but gives you access for a few months to a number of other museums in Lyon. This venue is fairly small on three levels. There did not appear to be any permanent installations, and the entirety was devoted to art from Lebanon during the 60s and 70s. While it was interesting and had some ties to a few businesses in Lyon, it was a bit disappointing. The entire focus on one subject may work for some visitors for some subjects. A different experience could be had with a different exhibition....
Joseph Wheaton — Google review
The museum on its own is quite nice.
However, the curator's complacency is disastrous. The only single task of not ruining the impression from the art pieces is masterfully failed by provincial pretentiousness of the descriptions written by the curators.
If you ever visit this museum you can, in fact, do it two times: first just enjoy the artworks and the second time just enjoy the overwhelming ego of the ones who organized it.

The museum is in a beautiful location next to the park, and the museum is well-run and organized. Love it or hate it, modern art is what they have on exhibit. General admission is very reasonable (7€). It's not a huge museum; a slow visitor can get through it in a morning.
Lauri Scharf — Google review
Spent a very happy Saturday afternoon here after a work conference. The work is engaging, and passionately curated and presented. Some of it is cool, some funny, some weird.. just what you want from a modern art gallery. Many people have said it's small, but I didn't find this at all there lots to see, but not so much that you can't do it all in a couple of hours. A great experience thank you!

It was a pretty good modern art museum. They had 3 unique exhibits although one was extremely small and was a series of the same piece of art but with a few differences. Worth checking out if you have the time or an exhibit is interesting to you but not a priority if you are on a time crunch. Definitely do not go here with too many expectations.

There was only one person ahead of our group of four but the clerk took a very long time to sell her a ticket. All the exhibits were depressing, goofy looking and lacking any artistic flair. The shop didn’t offer any interesting merchandise, maybe just a reflection of the place itself. Worst museum ever!

We were walking past these ruins and stopped to take a look.
They are not as impressive as the ones at the topic of the hill near the basilica and you cannot access these, but they are still remarkable to view from above.
It's remarkable that they have stood the test of time and that there are now major roads and houses surrounding this historic site.

It’s neat. As an American, anything old holds fascination but … that being said, there is some kind of event held there obviously and it looks like a stage. We knew there was a fence and that we could go TO it. I would not recommend this as a stop unless you happen to be in the area like we were. We had coffee down below and then were looking for a path to ground.

Amazing history and to see something from the 1st century is a special experience. It's a quick stop because you cannot enter the amphitheater anymore. You are able to walk all the way around it from an elevated path and look down from all sides. The neighborhood is not the safest, so go early during daylight. Parking is also difficult so try to plan around weekends and evenings when everyone has parked for the day. Overall with the effort!

The Amphitheater is very well preserved, access is very easy either by walking or by taking the bus and stop at the town hall of the first district.

Temple du Change, located in the heart of Place du Change, is a 17th-century building that was originally built to house the Bourse and later converted into a church. The exterior of the building is quite striking and it now serves as a Protestant church. Inside, the simplicity of its design stands out with minimal ornamental features. Currently, it also hosts delicate and poetic exhibitions for visitors to enjoy until May 15th.

Temple du Change is currently used as a church for the protestant faith. The building is striking looking from the outside, if only for its central location in the middle of the square called Place du Change. The 17th century building was built to house the Bourse before being converted into a church at the beginning of the 19th century. The building is simple on the inside with hardly any ornamental features.

Before buying the ticket, we were assured that there is English language support, but - it turned out - that was mostly lacking, as everything was in French, bar some high level paragraphs in English. It would have been really beneficial to add English language!

The Metallic Tower of Fourviere is a landmark in Lyon that resembles the Eiffel Tower in Paris. It was built in 1894 for the Exposition Internationale and stands 85.9 metres high and weighs 210 tons. Some locals refer to it as the Eiffel Tower or the Picon, although there is no proof that Gustave Eiffel was responsible for its design.
It serves its purpose as a radio/ satellite tower. It kind of takes away from the historic site as it is a modern piece.

You can get a very good view of this by going to the Notre Dame which is just next to it. I wouldn’t recommend walking. You can take the funicular up the hill for less than €2 (2022).

Small Eiffel tower
Ugly
You can clearly see it from the cathedral
You should go up by funicular not by foot (go down by foot by the gardens it’s beautiful)

Seeing this tower was my best experience; ever. The Eiffel tower is just a rip-off. Its the best thing ever build out of metal. The perfect symbiosis of metal and tower penetrates the sky like no other object created by mankind. The only bad thing is the Notre dame de fouviere blocking the view and distracting.
The Court of Appeal of Lyon is a neoclassical courthouse originally built in the 1840s. It boasts twenty-four Corinthian columns and has been the location of many famous trials throughout its history. While it is unclear if the public can enter just to view the building's impressive architecture, simply admiring it from outside is an experience not to be missed. The structure draws inspiration from Greek temples, with colonnades on its front rather than its sides.
Neo classic building with an architetural originality imposing respect for the Court. Beautifull

Superb architecture, inspiriting design and amazing colonnade; it is wonderful that that is built next to the river because it is possible to see it without obstacles by walking though the front bridge; on the other hand the sculpture in front representing a man lifting another looks very nice.

Not sure this place is worth visiting but the view of the old town from it is quite charming.

I've never been inside (not sure if public is allowed inside just to look?) but it's a stupendous building that commands attentions! I crossed the Palace of Justice well-being bridge across the Sâone river and you can't help but notice the twenty four Corinthian columns of the front! This adds intriguing features to Vieux Lyon side. It certainly took inspiration from Greek temples architecture but the colonades on the front and not the sides. Wish I was able to visit inside but a marvelous experience just to admire from the outside the enormity and glorious architecture of this building.

La Maison Thomassin is a historic home that dates back to the 1200s, featuring a Gothic facade and a remarkable painted ceiling. The building has been modernized into apartments, offering visitors an opportunity to stay in this ancient dwelling. Its central location allows easy access to various places of interest in the city. The restaurant on-site provides delicious food with a homey atmosphere and friendly service, although it can get crowded at times.
We stayed in a modernized apartment in this ancient building in 2012. What a lovely experience. You can walk to just about anywhere of interest from this location. Will post some photos one day.

The food was really good but I had to wait for very long to actually taste it. Just make sure you it's not packed when you go there. Otherwise the food was delicious.
