Vikingemuseet Lindholm Høje is a contemporary museum showcasing Viking culture and history, along with a burial site containing gravestones. Aalborg's most significant historical legacy lies within the Viking period and the Limfjord, which acted as a motorway for longboat raiding parties' easy access to the Atlantic.
Very interesting museum in which to learn about the Viking Age. You can take a look at lots of recovered items and read about them. All of the text is in Danish but they have tablets with the information in English and German (maybe more languages but I didn't check). Definitely a place to visit!

An interesting museum to visit if you want to get a better understanding of the life of people living in this area thousands of years ago. Small but very informative.
The graveyard outside of museum is a must see as well.
The staff were nice and helpful. Cute souvenirs can be bought here. 👍

Wonderful museum with decent prices and great service.
We visited the museum as a group of 6 Germans and 1 Danish. The lady was very nice explaining us some stations only available in Danish and also gave us some extra information on the side. The souvenir shop is also decently priced compared to what museums usually take as well as the entry fee itself. The grave hill is even free to visit. There is also an extra exhibit showing general findings in the fjord area which was very interesting in addition to the local exhibit.

Nice museum, not only viking but also old age .
Outside the biggest found grave yard of the vikings.

The Viking museum was extremely informative and a must-see for those with Nordic ancestry. We were unable to eat in the adjoining Cafe as there was a large group event inside and all of the outside tables were full as well -- perhaps good signs about the quality of the food?
Many of the displays had legend cards in English, but some did not. There were iPads in the museum as well at some of the displays which could be scrolled up to change the language presented which was helpful.
Being able to walk in the cemetery among the stones and the ancient funeral pyre remains was a remarkable experience, but the path through the small forest filled with the constant cacophony of crows was a little spooky especially considering its proximity to all of those old viking souls. It felt like a Harry Potter movie moment.

Very interesting and beautifully designed exhibition, makes you feel like you’re walking through history. Many archeological items from the area of Aalborg are displayed, with information available in Danish, English and German describing the daily life of the Vikings. Next to the museum are the burial grounds, which don’t require an entrance fee.

Awesome place. Lots too learn, amazing all the stuff they uncovered. It's so wild that a place like that can be forgotten for so long.

One of the best museums I've ever been to. To be honest, I did not expect such an experience!
Milica Kovačević — Google review
Fantastic destination for anyone interested in Viking history. This is a large Viking graveyard dating from 600 to 1000 as, with burial mounds for many, including a number of warriors interred with ships. Only a statical glitch during the ice age saved it as the entire site was buried and thereby preserved.
The museum is very nice and worthwhile. Definitely visit and pay the fee to support the site.
Recommended, only a few minutes outside Aalborg. Easy to get to and ample parking.

I never knew what a viking burial was like until I visited Lindholm Hoje. It's amazing to me how old these graves are. The museum was cool to visit and larger than I expected. I came close to closing time so I didn't explore as much of it as I would have otherwise.
Mariah Schimon — Google review
The big surprise here was the large medieval burial ground on the hill close to the museum. Before they were birthed, the most significant people were burnt on a wood bed encircled by stones.
The museum was very well organised and also worth a visit.

The arrangement of the animals cage is amazingly designed
When we could not see the lions we thought they just hide in the back and it’s too bad we can’t see them but nooo there’s an indoor side in the back where we could see them so easily and they do have little babies 😍🥹!
The polar bears 🐻❄️ are extremely fun to watch! I can literally set hours watching them jump and play

A place with interesting tourist infrastructure, a lot of places for barbecues, to eat, to relax. Unfortunately, on Friday after 4 pm, life dies there. Interesting small dinosaur park. However, doubts are raised by the conditions for animals that seem sad and neglected, especially elephants, big cats, polar bear.

A very nice zoo.
We went on a work day (Monday) so it was absolutely not crowded. Everything is in good condition. We had the opportunity to watch many feedings with lots of explanations (Danish and English). There are interesting ways to watch the animals. Clean toilettes, a great playground and opportunities to eat.

A small yet special zoo with well cared for animals. Good for children with a great playground, as well as food for adults. The bus is easy and convenient.
Ewen McPhee — Google review
It was a wonderful experience to be able to visit the zoo with our dog! They must of course go always on-leash, and some areas are off-limits (like the tigers/lions area and children playground) but it's great to be able to spend a nice day with them. You can see several families walking around with their dogs. Inside the zoo there are several "dog bars" where they can drink water. The zoo itself is nice, the animals look well kept and clean (it's not depressing as other zoos we've visited). Adult tickets cost DKK 210 in the summer, DKK 125 for children (3-11 y/o), and students can get a discount and pay DKK 168. During winter it costs DKK 190 for adults, DKK 105 children and DKK 152 for students. If you go by car you can park nearby for free; otherwise you can get there easily by bike or bus. You can also buy food inside but there are not so many options, mainly pizza and burgers, but there's also the option to bring your own food and grill it there for free (this is not available on winter).

Excellent zoo. Easy to walk around with strollers, toddlers and seniors. Animals are well cared for and appear to have adequate accommodation.
Brasserie Kunsten offers a delectable culinary experience with their dish called "little treats from the kitchen" priced at 228 per person. This dining experience is truly amazing, starting off with a mouthwatering combination of shrimp and lime/tonic jelly that leaves a heavenly taste. Springeren - Maritime Experience Centre in Aalborg is a must-visit for maritime enthusiasts. Wonderful museum with lots of fantastic models and information! It's a must if you like the sea and/or want to get into a submarine. It's also a great place for kids as it has a playground and it's possible to celebrate birthday parties on site. A very human and pet-friendly place, you're allowed to bring your food and eat there, while dogs are allowed on leash. Come to see -among other interesting items- a model of the Royal Ship Dannebrog and learn some new things!

AMAZING maritime museum, in my eyes a world class museum with a near endless exhibits. I could sense the work, effort and passion that went into this museum and its displays. Must have been several hundred models of just about every type of ship you could think of. These aren't basic models these are INTRICATE and DETAILED pieces of art, that took months to create by real artisans. THEN there is the submarine!! I can't imagine a more intact submarine on display anywhere else. This one looks like the crew was in there a few days doing their work. Dials, switches and valves all worked, could even use and focus the periscope!!! In America a display like this would have been striped to the hull before opening it to the public.

A great maritime experience for adults and children. A huge submarine(Springer) is displayed outdoor which allows you to enter and explore the inner workings as well. An area is dedicated to explain the history of ancient houses of Aalborg with cute little models. The Shipyard hall contains wide variety of exhibits that takes us back in history. The information regarding each exhibit is explained in english too!!!
I would recommend to keep enough time in hand to explore all the exhibits.

An amazing time! I visited with some Naval Engineering colleagues to see the experience. The models and exhibit inside was ok and had lots to see, however the outside exhibit was by far the best bit. Lots of interactive activities for children and adults, including exploring the inside of a submarine, a small naval vessel and a helicopter in the hanger at the back.
You can also 'drive' two anti-aircraft guns on the grass (climb inside and aim the guns vertically) which was excellent fun. Really well put together and worth the ticket price!
De Syngende Træer (Park of Music) in Aalborg's Kildeparken has been a cherished attraction since 1987. The park features 94 trees, each planted by different artists to commemorate their visits. It's a unique combination of a public park and musical art installation, where every tree "sings" its own song when activated.
Writing, sharing my photos & posting the review for the fifth time now, I don't know why I even bother to share on the Google platform anymore as it is not the first time it has happened & therefore won't be the the last :(. Great place to go for an afternoon, especially if you're into the ww2 and cold war era.
There are exhibitions regarding life in Denmark during that time period, including a mock nuclear shelter.
There are multiple vehicles on display such as the M10 tank destroyer, chaffe light tank and centurion tank.
There are fixed gun emplacements such as a 40mm Bofors AA, 17 pounder anti-tank gun, etc.
Combine this with a short trip to the maritime Museum with an actual sub and you will have an exciting day :)
Ps, buy the combined ticket for both army and maritime museum either online or physically at the army musuem for the best price!

Great spot for a great price. There's two huge hangers, an outside parking and an underground bunker all filled with military equipment on display. The main hanger also features side rooms with extra collections like medals or WW2 resistance displays.

Went here for the horror night. From the stuff I managed to see through the darkness and scary decorations, they have quite a lot of exhibited items, and if you're a fan of.. Well.. War stuff, then it's definitely worth a visit. Very very big in size so I can imagine it accommodates quite a lot more than what I'd seen.
Con: creepy street leading to the museum. I think some extra signs and lights could be helpful, BUT maybe it was like that just for the horror event, in which case, disregard 😁

The Budolfi Church in Aalborg is a restored Gothic cathedral with a spire that stands 208 feet tall. It boasts stained-glass windows, a rococo organ, and murals that are full of fascinating detail. The interior of the Danish Lutheran cathedral is well-maintained and marvelously decorated. The high-fixed windows illuminate the towering arches and the picturesque white ceiling. While the exterior may appear plain, it remains an impressive and inviting place to visit.
Large and full of fascinating detail. We were so excited to stumble upon this cathedral during our walk around Aalborg. I have taken part in an event organized at the Salling Rooftop. It was such a great concept and the rooftop has the views, the vibes and the music on point! What is lacked was more staff to take care of the clients, the event was sold out and so were the moules frittes. The event's description was: moules frittes ad libitum. Not so much. When we asked for the second round, after 30 min of waiting, I asked again and was told that they were sold out.Not so good to hear. The first round arrived cold and half of them were not opened. This was the fourth time I visited Aalborgstårnet. I love to go there, take a coke and just watch the beautiful view. It's very relaxing. The staff there was very nice as usual. I recommend a visit.

It's a must visit place.
Be there before 5PM. You can see all of Aalborg from this place. They give you Binaculors you can see the Girafees from this watch tower.

Great place to get a complete view over Aalborg. It's small but there's a restaurant and you can sit down and have lunch with spectacular views. Prices are as expected from tourist attractions. When the wind blows you can feel a little bit of movement, so consider this if you're afraid of heights.

Wow what a great experience. Press the button at the bottom of the tower and wait for the elevator lady to take you up to the top. Enjoy great views of Aalborg from the tower whilst enjoying a nice cup of coffee (or lots of other things) served by lovely staff.

Expensive, old and no dogs allowed. But a beautifull view! Strange that you are allowed up for free but you have to buy a ticket to go down again.

Nice place, but there is also a view from the bottom of the tower. As I went to the top last year, it was not that extraordinary.

Lovely tower to get some excellent views of the city. Food was a bit for tourists (hot dogs, pizza, chips, etc.) and they sell cheap souvenirs, but everything including entry was affordable and did the job. Great if you want to grab a coffee whilst getting some great shots.

Very nice viewpoint! It takes 40 DKK to go up, but there is restaurant and souvenir shop up there. The views extend beyond Aalborg and Norresundby.
Nordkraft is an innovative cultural center that has been established in a former coal power plant. This unique venue boasts a range of sporting facilities and art exhibitions, making it an ideal destination for visitors seeking cultural enrichment. The preservation of the original coal shafts adds to the historical value of the location, which remains fully intact. In addition to hosting concerts, Nordkraft offers various options for dining and provides visitors with opportunities to experience exhibitions throughout the year.
Skråen hosts concerts in this location, which is a historic building repurposed for cultural enrichment. Would have been a shame to knock it down for another cheese grater building.

Perfect taste, simple and exactly hiw a Italian pizza should be.

Great idea for a culture centre and utilization of location and space. This centre is located in an old coal powerplant. Everything left preserved, I was impressed to still see the coal shafts.

The Church of Our Lady is a stunning sanctuary located in the historic part of Aalborg. Constructed in 1116 CE, it boasts a red-brick exterior and an intricate pipe organ. The church is easily accessible, situated near the harbor and offering visitors the opportunity to explore the city. It's open daily from 10 am to 2 pm and provides a fantastic opportunity for those interested in history or architecture to appreciate its beauty.
Very beautiful church with interesting details. Check out the back entrance gate with gable stones, the boards with priest listings from the 15th century and the grave stones in the hall walls.

At the Christmas service they exchanged half the salmes for modern ones. I come to church on Christmas for tradition, not for a disco. Not everything has to be modern.

Fantastic church in old part of Aalborg. Opens every day from 10 till 14:00. A beauty
Aalborg Historical Museum showcases the rich history of the city from its earliest times to recent periods. The exhibits include medieval artifacts, a 1600s living room, and industrial displays. The museum has knowledgeable guides proficient in both English and Danish languages. Though the signs on the walls are in Danish, there are pamphlets available with translations for English-speaking visitors. Notable collections include ancient instruments of torture, housing, common daily objects, classrooms and clothing.
It is a really nice museum to visit. The museum is small, but you can still learn so much about Denmark's history, and specifically about Aalborg. The museum has some really nice exhibitions and it's really worth visiting. The staff members are very friendly. There's a wardrobe where you can leave your coat while visiting the museum.

A great museum. It's filled with the history of Aalborg, since the first human occupations until recent periods. There are guides who speak both English and Danish. The signs on the walls that explain the exhibition's pieces are all in Danish, but there are panflets in English that have the translations. The collections are amazing. There are ancient instruments of torture, of housing, of common daily objects, of a classroom, of clothes. There's a part of the museum that is entirely dedicated to the German occupation during World War II that is really interesting, and the guide had many outstanding comments on how people lived through this period.
Ana Thereza Vasconcellos — Google review
The museum has done a good job with the English translations since earlier comments, so I recommend visiting them. It stood out to me how they tried to depict their subjects as human beings, be it a medieval folk hero, an executioner or a 14-year-old bride.

This is not a big museum, but it was packed with information. We spend a coulpe of hours in there and where entertained the entire time. If you live in Aalborg and have never been there - go! If you have any interest in local history and are visiting Aalborg - go!
It is really cheap and you get something for your money.

Nice little historical museum packed with the history of the town, well worth a visit. In addition to the usual 'city through the ages' displays, there is a nice exhibition on social movements in Aalborg through time (not just recent!).
David Lusseau — Google review
I went here with my parents and we do not understand Danish. This was not a problem for most of the museum, as there are small leaflets with translations of some of the text. However, I was very disappointing that the exhibit I looked forward to most, the section on the Nazi occupation, was not translated at all.

We came here on a rainy Tuesday morning in the week leading up to X-mas eve, in the footsteps of the Danish writer Hans Kirk, the author of the famous novel “Fiskerne”, The Fishermen. This novel written in the 1920’s describes the true story of the conflicts between the inhabitants of Gjøl and fishermen from the Danish Nort Sea coast who had moved to this small tow on the shores of the Limfjord. We were particularly curious to visit the tombstones from the era, wondering if anyone from thereunder had been part of this conflict.

Aalborghus Castle is a 16th-century fortress located by the riverside, featuring tunnels, a dungeon, and parklands which are open to the public. Despite not being a typical castle, this building boasts stunning architecture and an inner courtyard that exudes historical significance. Interestingly enough, some of the spaces within the building have been repurposed for local businesses, adding to its modern appeal.
It is a really beautiful old castle. Unfortunately, the castle was closed on Sunday morning, and I was not able to see it inside. However, this place is very beautiful, even in winter time, and if you have the opportunity, visit it. It's worth it.

Very nice park and castle. The prison is quite amazing and super cold in the hot summer months. For some reason all the lights were out inside the prison. The park is really nice and secluded also. Well worth a visit, although read up before you go, as there isn't much information available at the castle itself.

Not what you might expect from a "castle", but an absolutely gorgeous building nonetheless. We went in the off-season and were only able to explore the outside (including the inner courtyard), but it was well worth the short walk from our hotel. Even without going inside, you can feel the history that exists within this space...
Interestingly, they've repurposed some of the space within the building for local businesses, which puts a fascinating historical/modern spin on the entire place.
If you're nearby, a quick jaunt around/through the castle won't take more than a few minutes -- well worth the visit for a quick dose of history!

Gråbrødrekloster Museum is a small but charming underground museum located in a former monastery. It showcases medieval relics, ruins, and skeletal remains that provide insight into the history of Aalborg and the church that once stood there. The museum offers a unique experience as visitors ride an elevator to reach it, which can accommodate up to 10 people for one payment. Although unmanned, the museum provides helpful interactions while reading and offers informative signs in both Danish and English.
It was a nice experience. Super cheap as you only pay to use the elevator and can cram 10 people in there and only pay once.
The museum is small but quaint and with a lot of interesting information about the origins of Aalborg and the church that once stood in the place.
It is unmanned so the interactions while reading are very helpful.

Interesting concept but difficult to find if you don’t know you’re meant to look for a lift. I was by myself so it was not really worth the 50 DKK but if you’re a group or family it’s a good deal. Not too much to see there except the ruins and read some history. Unfortunately it was pretty full as I got there so I felt a bit rushed to read everything.

Small but charming museum in the center of Aalborg. The museum tells an interesting story about the history of the monestary and the monks, and the exhibits are all labeled in both Danish and English. For a group the 50DKK admission price is more than fair.

A great small place for everyone interested in history, hid away from the busy street level. Please note the entrance fee is for 1 elevator ride, not for 1 person.
Johanna Blåfield — Google review
It was SO HARD TO FIND!! We didn't really expect to be looking for a glass elevator... but when we got there it was a very cool and a bit different museum experience.
Also: you pay the elevator for as many as can fit into it!

Vary hard to find if you don't know you are looking for a lift, especially when a tour group is stood in front if it! You pay 40 kr to use the lift so not good value if you are alone.

A great experience. A piece of history uncovered and preserved in a great way. In my opinion they must do more advertising things at the entrance. I passed by there 2 days ago and never know that it was there. I visit it today based on a recomandation.

Old City Hall in Aalborg, Denmark is a historic building situated in the city center. Constructed in the 16th century, it functioned as the administrative hub for many years. The Renaissance-style facade adds to its charm, making it a popular spot for tourists. The town hall was built in 1762 and boasts late Baroque architecture. While it used to house the municipality's administration until 1912, today it is exclusively utilized for weddings and official events.

Aalborg Town Hall was built in 1762 in the late Baroque style, until 1912 it formed the framework for Aalborg Municipality's administration, but today it is used exclusively for weddings and representative purposes.
