The Rostock Zoo in Rethwisch Borgerende, Germany is a modern zoo that boasts of spacious and naturalistic habitats for its animals. It also has a high-tech visitor center that pays homage to Darwin's work. The zoo staff is creative and hardworking, as evidenced by the impressive animal light show they have put together. Walking around the entire zoo during opening hours allows visitors to see all it has to offer.
Amazing zoo with a big selection of animals from different geni. Also the animals are having a lot of space and the zoo has taken care of generating an environment where they will feel more comfortable.
Also, the zoo park is so large, going early to go through the whole area by evening is a must.
The price is definitely worth if as this place needs to be maintained.
All in all, awesome place, best zoo I've ever visited!

Amazing zoo! The park is integrated into the forest which makes the experience very good. We had our kids 2,5, and 10 years old, all enjoyed the experience. The Darwineum was a super cool way too explain the evolution from big bang all the way to humans / animals.

Overall it's a fine zoo. However when I was there in May 2022 and they had 2 young polar bear cubs. The polar bear exhibit was extraordinary. Very impressed. The rest of the zoo is pretty large and has a lot of stop off areas for kids to play. The food situation isn't great.

I am visiting Rethwisch Bõrgerende Germany from my hometown of San Francisco, California and i decided to support the local Rostock Zoo by visiting the animal light show. I am impressed by the creativity and hard work the Zoo staff has established. The crowd visiting the show was very light and it was easy for us to walk around the light show with our Black Labrador (€4.00) and we did fine. The weather was cold so we did not stay to late but we did get a good view of the show. I recommend a visit with your kids or family.

A great place to relax between the woords and fresh air. Its spread across a large area so it takes almost a day to cover each and every part. The most highlighting part is the aquarium which hold the polar bear. The zoo is very clean and well maintained. It can be accessed via Tram which drops directly next to the zoo.

The Zoo Rostock is a nice place, especially for children and families. The prices are getting a bit too expensive for my personal view, but still, if you want your children to have a quiet, enjoyable Zoo experience, I would definitely recommend visiting Zoo Rostock.
The Evangelical St. Mary's Church in Rostock is a significant 13th-century building that boasts an exquisitely crafted wooden altar and a massive pipe organ. The church has a simple yet enigmatic exterior, and its interior is adorned with stunning architecture that attracts many visitors. Despite the large crowds, the atmosphere inside remains peaceful and calm, making it an ideal place for contemplation or reflection.
Beautiful church with stunning exterior as well as interior. It really feels like this church shows how strong Rostock was back in the days. If you are a student, you only pay 2 euros for the entrance fee. It’s a neat church overall, but the astrological clock inside is amazing. It really makes you wonder how people of the past could come up with the idea of creating it.

This church is very special! Highly recommended. There are some decorations related to the characteristics of this city: harbour. In addition, the astronomical clock is also amazing. It has worked for more than 500 years and provides a lot of calendar/astronomical information. I like this clock more than the one in Prague. After visiting this church, I donated some money because I hope that anything in church can be maintained in a good condition.

It's not much to look at from outside. Inside it's quite beautiful but, in my opinion, still overrated. The thing that makes it famous is its astronomical clock which is unique. The church was quite crowded around the clock and monuments because of tour guides and tourists, but I guess this is a sign of its popularity. I wasn't overwhelmed and, nice as it was, I wouldn't bother to go back a second time. It's one of those places where you can truly say 'Been there, done that, got the T-shirt'

Impressive. First mentioned in a document in 1232 and built as an early Gothic hall church, St. Mary's Church was converted into a multi-nave church (basilica) as early as 1290. The addition of the huge transept began in 1398. By 1454 the church (apart from the tower) was completed as a Gothic central building with a vault height of 32 meters. You simply have to see it. Really nice. Admission is free.
Warnemünde is a coastal town that was once the residence of the famous Norwegian artist Edvard Munch. The area boasts an extensive stretch of shoreline and a beacon structure.
Alter Strom, located in the heart of Warnemunde, was originally a canal connecting Rostock's port to the Baltic Sea. Over time, it became a charming area with colorful houses where fishermen and sailors settled. Visitors can now enjoy strolling along the picturesque promenade, shopping, and savoring delicious seafood while watching seagulls.

An almost incredibly wide beach there. You can take a nice walk along the old stream itself. The many small houses are home to shops and many restaurants and cafés. Even some of the old fishing boats are now snack bars. Caution! The seagulls are crazy about food and will sometimes grab a fish sandwich straight from the hand of an unsuspecting tourist. we absolutely recommend staying with klaus under a thatched roof in rostock-lichtenhagen ! he kindly provided fresh fruit and hid easter themed chocolate bunnies for us in the apartment, what a sweetie. from there it's just a short bike ride to the beach – through a field of fragrant blossoms that will make your heart bloom in awe 🌸
the stoltera nature reserve will charm you with an abundance of ivy growing over the trees, a carpet of moss on the ground and cute little white flowers dancing out of the soil. go admire dogs living their best life on the beach as well as the interesting formations of the steep cliff at kap geinitzort. not far from here is the gespensterwald (buuouhaouuubuhhh !) with its bizarre trees shaped by the salty, humid sea air. it's so windy that locals say your curls might disappear, but you can warm up with a hot sanddorn juice in one of the slightly overpriced cafés.
enjoy the breathtaking sunset at the beach and have a dip in the ocean if you are brave enough. the water was just 8°C in april, great opportunity for practicing the wim hof method and reenacting a scene of t. peters' de-transition baby. if you reach a fever pitch and are left breathless, a lifeboat with the name ~adele~ will come to your rescue.
the wooden stakes in the water are called buhnen and they are supposed to break the waves, but we think they might also have been built for balance exercises and bird rest. there were three seagulls digging a hole in the sand and mining for the most beautiful rocks – one of my favorite activities as well. we found a whole array of different kinds: bernstein, tiny grey ones, chalk rock, but you gotta be careful with potential phosphor findings ~ don't set fire to the rain ! ! it is by official rule not allowed to feed the seagulls, though they will likely steal your snacks anyways. we saw one grab a whole ice cream cone, their favorite flavor seems to be vanilla.
on the strip in warnemünde you can buy fisher hats with a cow pattern and heart-shaped rocks from a vending machine, my friend got the orange one that stands for sensuality and the body. at warnemünde harbor a large amount of people who seem to be huge fans of monogamy placed love locks on a bridge, fooling themselves about the eterny of their sensual bond. one heart shaped lock already broke apart and seems to be chasing pavements now. rumor has it that this love is water under the bridge and your heart might melt to stone. but i do prefer a rock over a lock anyways 🧡

Warnemünde Strand is a coastal paradise, and its sunsets are absolutely stunning. The beauty of this beach goes beyond its sandy shores and clear waters—it's the sunsets that truly steal the show.
As the sun begins to set, the sky over Warnemünde Strand transforms into a breathtaking display of colors. The warm oranges and pinks mix with the cool blues of the sea, creating a mesmerizing painting in the sky.
You'll have plenty of space on the beach to find your ideal spot for watching the sunset. Whether you decide to sit on the sand, take a leisurely stroll along the promenade, or relax at one of the beachfront cafes, you're in for a treat.
The soothing sounds of the waves in the background add to the magic of the moment. And as the sun dips below the horizon, casting a shimmering reflection on the water, you'll be left in awe of nature's beauty.
These sunsets at Warnemünde Strand are not just a visual delight; they're an experience that leaves a lasting impression. It's the kind of sunset that makes you pause, reflect, and feel grateful for the simple joys in life.
In summary, Warnemünde Strand is the perfect place to witness some of the most beautiful sunsets imaginable. It's a destination that reminds us of the wonders of the natural world and leaves us feeling deeply appreciative.

Lot of places to eat around and also enjoy the water. There is a kinder park near by but there are not many stuff for kids to do.
Water is warm in summer just the cold wind makes it uncomfortable to stay. Anything above 20C is perfect of beach 🏖 and some sun. There are some places you can rent but it cost around 5€per hour.
The Warnemünde lighthouse, a 19th-century historical landmark located in the charming village, boasts stunning views of the sea and surrounding areas. The tall structure offers plenty of seating options for visitors to take in the picturesque scenery while enjoying snacks on-site. However, transportation to this location can be challenging due to limited public transport choices and scarce taxis available. Its notable features include an old lighthouse and a large ship and ferry port.
The lighthouse in Warnemünde was for centuries a meeting place and a place of happenings, and so it is still today. As it once guided the people of the sea through the storms, now it guides the countless visitors that are gathering at the seaside on the sunny weekends. I recommend tourists to come to this place and plan their tour through the town from this point on. Best regards!

The Culture Museum Rostock is a 13th-century monastery that displays paintings, crafts, furnishings, and other cultural artifacts. This museum showcases an array of unique items including historical toys which are particularly interesting for visitors unfamiliar with German toy culture from a century ago. The modern design seamlessly combines the old monastery's original items making it a must-see place in Rostock.
A lovely place. The texts explaining each exhibited piece are both in German and English, the workers are friendly and the items on display interesting. There are also interactive elements for children or anyone curious :) The entrance is free, taking photos costs 2€. A very nice fountain in the pedestrian zone in Rostock. The university building of 1419 completes the great view.

It was working on this May 1 visit to Rostock. My wife’s name is Joy and the fountain is named Joy so what more do I need to say?

nice fountain sculpture, even in winter

Cities should establish more fountains like this one! It was a perfect place for kids to play, running around the water in hot weather while parents could sit and enjoy beer/Rostock. 5stars

The fountain is right in the center and heart of Rostock city. It's very old and it's part of Rostocks history. It's a nice refreshing place specially in hot summer days, you can sit on one of the banks which are arround the fountain or walk in the park which is right behind it.

A must visit when you are in town. City center with lots of people. Good to hang out. Eat some food. Kids can play in the water.

IGA Park is a vast and open public space that offers various recreational activities for people of all ages. It has well-manicured gardens, playgrounds, sports facilities, and cultural events that cater to the interests of visitors. The park also features a serene chapel-like woven tree space, woodland walks, and a picturesque lake that provides an ideal ambiance for relaxation.
This is a lovely little park with a springy bridge, if you walk at the resonant tempo, a peaceful chapel like woven tree space, woodland walks, a lake, and a bunch of strange nautical art objects. I'm uploading a few pictures of some of these. There's a big cargo ship that's a museum too, though it was too late when we arrived so it was closed. See lots of propellers, winches, dry dock pieces and more. If it weren't for the revoltingly expensive trick tunnel toll, I'd go there again.

We went there in hopes to find a nice place to hang out with a lot of shadow and a calming atmosphere but we were shocked to see the all burned grass, the Japanese garden basically destroyed and everything looking a bit lost in time and space. The good part was the Chinese garden, which was still intact and looked great. But apart from that it was just okay, if not just disappointing. I understand that it’s free of charge, but the garden looks sad like that, maybe there is a solution for that issue someday. Apart from that the concerts are great there.

Nice and large park with a beach, mini golf, flower garden, japan garden, china garden, etc. The area is clean and tidy. Minus two stars for a dog park. Is that a joke? Three benches and a sign..Asking one euro for using it?! The area should be fenced - no, “fenced” by a bicycle road is not acceptable. Are you alright?! No water access either. Hope your children are playing on the playground enclosed by the road. Bad and sad.

IGA Park is located between Gross Klein and Schmarl, It is easily accessible from either the Lütten Klein Train Station or Lichtenhagen Train Station either with a bicycle or by Bus 31. The Park has several attraction listed below:
▪ Shipbuilding and Maritime Museum
▪ Japanese themed Garden (Japanischer Garten)
▪ Willow dome (Weidendom Rostock)
▪ A set up stage for events.
The Park is environment is serene and filled with greens, the air is amazing coupled withe the fresh breeze from the Warnow River. The IGA Park also has a parking lot, a miniature golf course, and two suspension bridges. I’ll recommend you pay it a visit during your visit (especially summer period).

Nowadays this is a pleasant park with lots to explore - including a beach, which not many landscaping parks have! We also loved the willow structure you can get married in. Easy to get to from the nearby S-Bahn, but signage could be improved.
Very good port facilities and great street food places. Came to know when visiting Germany/ Warnemunde. Modern and we'll equiped. From here one can go to Berlin by train. Enjoyed it. 👍👍

Kröpeliner Tor is a 13th-century Gothic tower that serves as one of the four major towers in the city. It offers history exhibits and tours, allowing visitors to explore its rich past. Located near sections of the city wall and a bustling market place, it provides easy access to exciting shops and popular places. The gate area was widened in the 1960s to handle increased traffic. Additionally, there is a beautiful dockside nearby featuring a fish stand and restaurant with outdoor seating.
didn't go up but it's well kept and worth the visit

Nice historical building, very well maintained, interesting exposition inside. I was expecting a good view of the town at the top though, the field of sight is quite limited
Yolan Chériaux — Google review
The Kröpeliner Tor was built in the Gothic style around 1270 as the westernmost of the four large gates of Rostock's city fortifications . Even then it was very large with its two floors and remained one of the mightiest of the up to 22 city gates at times. Whether it was named after the small town of Kröpelin , towards which it leads, or after a patrician family of the same name, is still a matter of debate today. It represents the western end of Kröpeliner Straße .

Tour guide gave history from a personal view. Very nice and engaging . It is tower gate to a once walled in city. Gate area widened in 1960's to accommodate increased traffic according to tour guide.

The Tor & The Defensive wall are quite amazing, if you have a chance walk up the street(lots & lots of shops, restaurants) to the large courtyard by the train tracks, on weekends there is a flea market there

Has an elevator to the top for a fantastic view of the city or you can take the very small, winding stairs (which is also fun)

Anytime I’m visiting Rostock, I try to catch a Hansa game. Love coming here and catching a game. Prices for beer are much cheaper than any U.S. stadium. Their fans are insane. Love it!

Its noise is far too uncontrolled as it can be heard clearly in another city part which is especially inappropriate during the night when people are trying to sleep and cannot close their eyes thanks to screaming fans, drums and overtuned speakers. This building needs a sound-proof roof!
It was very helpful to be able to use the free internet and the staff were friendly and informative. We enjoyed doing the suggested walk on the map provided. A beautiful town.
