The Museu de Portimão is an amazing museum with a focus on the area's fishing and canning traditions. The museum features a variety of exhibits, including archaeology, underwater finds, and a re-creation of the fish cannery. There are also permanent exhibitions of classic and industrial archaeologies, as well as temporary photog. The Feu Factory is another great attraction at this Museum.
If you’re ever passing by I recommend you go see the museum. It’s really not that big and we got round in 30mins. Don’t forget to see the ladies in formation on the roundabout. Lovely statues.

Fabulous and very interesting walking through the history of the sardine factory in portimao. The video is informative and also very funny. A little propaganda for the factories of the time! Bonus... Free on Sundays between 10-1400!

Informative and captivatingly entertaining. The sardine factory turned museum is an absolute must to see. Makes you feel to have witnessed the factory when it was up and running. Other art effects the Roman and Arab influences are also very interesting giving a good historical background of this town. Highly recommended.

Old cannery put to good use. Great lithography machines and all old equipment used in canning sardines. One area closed off for maintenance.... Cheap entry

Fun little museum along the Riverfront. The main exhibit space is dedicated to the story and history of the Sardines and the factory that the museum is housed. little room is left for rotating exhibits, but they are usually well presented.

What a wonderful and educational museum. for €3 per person you enter the world of canning sardines. Do: watch the film in black and white that was made years ago at the factory. this is really worth it. the machines with which the tins were made at the time are on display and are provided with explanations in Portuguese and English. the museum itself is not huge so an hour should suffice to make the tour. in the entrance hall you will find toilets and with a bit of luck you can buy canned goods with tasty sardines or tuna at the counter. enjoy.

Very interesting well worth 3euros, how the sardines where court and packaging, give it a try 🐟🐟👍🇬🇧😎
Dennis Peskey — Google review
Really cool building but could have used a lot more explanation of how people worked, maybe something about the fishing and the impact of overfishing. Just a bunch of machines and a few statues... A long way for not a lot. But I loved it anyway, I just wanted so much more!
TL Wiswell — Google review
Beautiful location. Interesting museum about the fishing industry in Portugal, especially for the low price. We spent a little less than an hour there. Make sure to watch the film - everything else in the museum comes together once you watch it. We would have loved to buy a poster or old tin sheets in a gift store, but there isn't really a gift store (just some little trinkets in a glass case). The museum only takes cash, and doesn't have change for a 50€ bill, which I found surprising given that it seems quite fancy/new/well-funded! Unfortunately half the museum was closed off for renovations (we saw no renovations being done behind the cord, though).

Wonderful museum giving a description of the area from prehistoric times to the more modern industrial times. Lots of models and displays and many interactive screens in English and Portuguese. Also an art gallery upstairs. Would heartily recommend.

A really interesting museum about life in the local area particularly the sardine fishing and canning. Well worth a visit. Lots to see and interesting displays. Good walk afterwards along the traffic free river side into Portimao.

Only €1.50 for seniors

I was hesitant to visit, but I appreciated the museum and the exhibition. The lomg video explaining the fish industry and the factory itself were so interesting. And for only 3 euros !

The experience was educational about sardine, the evolution of Portimão, the history of some coins, tribes, machinery, and expansion due to the trading of sardines.

A fascinating historical museum.
Not just the sardine factory, but also the Roman and megalithic ruins, different coins, and auditory explanations.we had previously visited the megalithic monuments at Alcalar, which was an added bonus. Would have appreciated more English language on the exhibits, plus some signs are low down , and difficult to read. The photographic display upstairs was great, though.
Joanne Hunter — Google review
Well designed small museum showcasing the sardine canning industry which built this fishing town. There is also an introduction explaining the foundations of the area from before Roman times to the present. Ticket costs just 3€. A nice visit to learn something about the town and its people. Exhibitions are well thought out even if they are small and limited in content. It’s a quick visit you can do after walking the zona Ribeirinha of Portimao.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this visit. It was interesting, the information was in English and it was well set out. The video brought the workers to life. An excellent experience.

One of the most interesting museums I have ever been. These sculptures of workers are like alive.. interesting to know the history of everything how it had been there, modern and informative!

Surprised by the quality of this museum. Really friendly staff. It has one part focused on archeology and another regarding the history of the factory and fishery industry. Temporary exhibition upstairs too.

I found it informative going to visit the museum.
There were lots of artefacts of the distant and not so distant past, some going back to the BC period. Gives one quite an insight of the area's history.
Particularly liked that an actual sardine factory was turned into a museum.
There was also a photography exhibition and some artwork on display.
The Carvoeiro Boardwalk is a 570m-long wooden walkway that runs along a jagged coastline with stunning rock formations. It features steps leading to caves and small coves where visitors can spend hours exploring. The route starts at a church above the town beach, ending at a car parking area, but continues towards the lighthouse for about 3k. There are benches and seating areas available for visitors to relax and enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline.
Beautiful walk for all ages young and small, 650 metres in total. Be sure to take the side gates for loads of hidden coves and some beautiful fossils and caves. The walk down this secluded area can be quiet tough and there are signs advising the danger of it.

Such a lovely walk along the cliff tops with stunning views out to sea. Doesn't take long to walk from one end to the other however with plenty of places to sit along the way, it can end up being hours. Just sit, relax and enjoy the views 😎
Kate Tricker — Google review
This is a fabulous local resource and we used it several times during our stay. It is about 10 minutes from end to end if you march but there are so many steps down to little coves you can easily spend an hour or two along this stretch. There are also several benches and seating areas so you can just take in the view.
The route goes from a small church just above the town beach to a small car parking area. After the car park you can carry on walking towards the lighthouse along the coast but we never got that far (about a further 3k).

This Boardwalk was definitely worth the trip. The Carvoeiro Boardwalk is a walk with scenic cliffs and nice trails to go on. You will always stay in one path, with small walks off the wooden steps. There were picturesque views in along the trail, and many, many places to take lovely pictures! Overall, a pleasant experience.

We had a lovely stroll along the board walk from Algar Seco to Carvoeiro a few weeks ago. I would say it was accessible for most abilities and age groups. Amazing views and some great rock formations and caves all along the coast line. I think it was probably about 20 mins or so we were walking along the board walk but with it being quite hot when we went we were just taking it easy. At the bottom of the hill in Carvoeiro Square you can enjoy a refreshment at many of the cafes/restaurants.

Beautiful coastal cliff top walkway just up the hill on the east side of Carvoeiro. Well maintained, useful sitting areas along the way. Lovely views not just of the coastline, but also of the local flora and fauna.

It's absolutely worth visiting, I watched a stunning sunset here in the month of June, better than being at the beaches nearby for viewing the sunset. Arrive at least 30 minutes earlier than sunset time.
The path is a 15-minute walk, but if you'd like to explore the stairs that go down, you could be there for an hour.

Excellent wooden walkway along the cliffs above Carvoeiro with breathtaking views as far as the eyes can see. Much better and safer than the old stone path that was previously used. Leading out from the top off the cliffs overlooking the beautiful beach in Carvoeiro it leads away towards Algar Seco. Plenty of free parking available so well worth a visit

If you are able to take this hike just before sunset it's great, also part of it is lit up at night. Depending on the weather there is also a Bar/ restaurant that you can sit and enjoy the great surroundings.

Excellent experience we’ll worth a gentle early morning or evening stroll. Fantastic views out to The Atlantic. The boardwalk is illuminated at dusk, but just be aware that the lighting is proud of the boards and we found that looking at the view, we kept tripping over them! Our fault for not looking where we were going!
Praia dos Três Irmãos is a secluded beach located in Portimao, Algarve with towering rock formations and caves. It can be accessed via a staircase during low tide. Portimão has one of the most incredible beaches of the Algarve. It’s definitely a place to spending a day exploring. You can start from Praia da Rocha walking to Praia do Vau, passing through Praia dos Três Irmãos, Amado, Coreanos… unmissable spot!

Beautiful Portuguese beach with stunning red sandstone cliffs and mesmerising turquoise to blue sea. Bar / cafe and toilets. Quite a lot of steps down to (and then back up) the beach. Gets quite crowded at peak times.
Ian Curry — Google review
I parked up in the parking lot and went off hiking up on the cliffs. There are paths that go all over the place so you can explore. But be very careful you can slip off the edges very easily. Be sure only to do this when it is dry and did not rain, because then it will be no fun, trust me. I walked all the way to the next city which is an approximately 4.5 km and kept going. A total of 14 km hike I did in 5:15h with some stops for beer 😃
Between parking in the parking lot is free, but it is very dusty so when you come back, your car will be very dirty. Down at the bottom, you can explore all around on the sandy beaches. There are caves and holes that you can walk through if the water is not too far up. Beware that you don’t get pulled into the ocean. I would recommend this place. Good for people all ages - kids, dogs whatever!
There are also some restaurants and some snack bars around by the parking lot so if you’re hungry or thirsty….

Kath Green — Google review
Lovely, clean beach with stunning cliffs.
Fine sand, refreshingly cold water, specific to Portugal (that's the Atlantic for you), so don't expect to see as many people in the water as in the Balearics (which may be good, at times).
Plenty restaurants around to get a cup of coffee or the more expensive, 'fish of the day'.
The beach looks a lot different when the tide is low, when you can access a lot more places and have plenty more beach than when the tide is high.
If you dare to follow the small, narrow paths above the cliffs, there are many places to take vibrant panoramic pictures from above.

Gorgeous scenery, plenty of routes up and down the cliffs for all abilities, and a great beach bar next to it. There’s been a storm the day before we went which meant the sea washed up a load of debris - led to believe it is usually quite clean though. An absolute paradise! Spent an entire day at Praia dos Três Irmãos, and it was nothing short of breathtaking.
The pristine cleanliness of the beach coupled with its secluded atmosphere made it feel like a private slice of heaven. The opportunity to explore the adjacent coves only added to the adventure, while sipping a refreshing sangria from the nearby beach bar in the warm sun felt like a true bucket-list moment. Highly recommend this spot for anyone seeking a tranquil, unforgettable beach experience.

Praia dos Três Irmãos, also known as Three Brothers Beach in Alvor, shares the same stretch of sand as Praia de Alvor. However, it distinguishes itself with enchanting rock formations located on the eastern end, creating a landscape that feels like a different world. Jagged sea stacks, mysterious caves, and arches sculpted from rock define this beach, inviting exploration and adventure.
Witnessing this unique paradise is truly an unparalleled experience!

Autódromo Internacional do Algarve is a well-maintained motorsport track and off-road park suitable for go-karting, car, and motorcycle racing. The circuit offers small hills and undulations that create an entertaining track. The area has many viewing stands around the course to provide ample opportunities for spectators to watch the races. The racecourse is located in a scenic environment; however, the road leading to it may be slightly rough.
What a privilege to have driven the latest BMW M2 on this track with professional guidance, and to top it all...at night. The undulating track really tests your patience and skill. At some parts you are hard on the accelerator and all you can see is sky, then hard on the brakes as you reach the peak and are faced with a short breaking zone into a sharp left corner...so exhilarating...I absolutely would recommend getting on this track.

We attended the motogp that we love. But you cannot book general admission tickets and once you arrive at your designated area you cannot go anywhere else. The only food available was burgers that were cold and far from cheap 28euros for 2 burgers, 3 small merchandise tents no where near to the seating area or entrance. All in all we would not attend again.

Great track, great staff, good pricing vs alternatives with this standard of track and facility.
The skill level can vary massively within the session so slow drivers can be a nuisance. The staff are very happy to facilitate for fast drivers to go into different sessions to avoid slow traffic.
Good timing sheets.
On par with Rye House in the UK. (Championship karting track in England)
The full race track offers experiences and hot laps with pro drivers. If you have the budget I highly recommend going for a hot lap in a super car with one of the pro drivers. Excellent circuit. Also good for motoGP races.

Straightforward check-in process on arrival; staff helpful and informative and got us into the karts within ten minutes of arriving without an appointment. The karts are in seriously good condition, possibly the best I've driven, which made the whole experience a cut above most circuits. We drove for fifteen minutes and it didn't feel horribly short, definitely enough if you just want to play, although I think I'd go for half an hour if I came here again. Thanks for a great experience.

Had such a blast carting, definitely worth a trip! Beware that when you add time (ex: you paid for 30 mins and want to add another 15 mins), they charge you as if you hadn't already been. It's best to choose the longer time up-front. Have fun!!

Glad a great weekend for motogp a shame we can't walk around the track and are stuck in our seated zones.
Another down side is they only sold non alcoholic beer down in the fan zone. Not actually at the track where your seats were. Getting in on race weekend is also pretty lengthy. The same everywhere else though really. Police did a great job getting everyone out.

Great track, good viewing. However, the traffic control is terrible. I had to park in the back of nowhere, with supposedly a bus back. I was there 3 days, never saw a bus, and track officials didn't know about a bus service. I would have put 1 star, but the racing was good and has put me in a good mood.

I read through some of the negative reviews stating it's too full, it's too much for mass tourism and that is not incorrect. There are a lot of people. There are not the most beautiful buildings in sight from the beach. But it is still a beautiful beach with some nice rock formations on the side. The beach is quite shallow in the beginning and generally the sea is calm (with exceptions obviously), which makes it suitable for children and elderly alike.
There are more beautiful beaches in the area and in the world but for a mass tourism beach in a city this is very nice and relaxing.

Awesome beach! It’s huge so it never actually feels busy! Great boardwalk and wooden paths to get you almost all the way to the water. Seating and umbrellas are all over the place (usually free to use) and the places to eat are very good with reasonable prices for being right on the beach. We ate there multiple times on a single trip. Water is clean, beach is clean, and workers are always out to clean it up. I swear I never saw trash anywhere which is incredible to me. Exhilarating walk, first on the cliff tops between stinking older homes and the edges of the cliff. Several families have cultivated these magnificent succulent gardens, including the gargantuan all the way down to the M midst subtle of plants. Eventually one comes to a pad in the cliffs allowing you down to the beach among these ancient rock formations carved out of a sandstone and shell composition over millennia! Our visit way in mid winter with bright sun, vibrant blue skies, crystal clear ocean water, dynamic Atlantic Ocean waves, and 65°F air temp's. The walk ranges from 4 - 8 km, depending on your stamina in managing some moderately steep and scaley inclines. Free parking in winter, handicap spaces available, limited number of spaces; several lunch and /or coffee shops grouped near the beginning of the walk.
The Praia dos Três Castelos is a beautiful beach with white sand and crystal-clear waters. It's perfect for swimming, sunbathing, and relaxing. The cliff backdrop provides stunning views of the ocean, while the beach has all the amenities you need to have a great time.

Spectacular sandy beach with eroded rocks, that create, small caves and crevices, all making great holiday photo opportunities. There're quite a few restaurants by the beach as well if you need a coffee or a beer. Great spot for a morning/evening walk as well. The tide is in/out every few days and therefore the sand right by the ocean is very solid. This means you should be able to take a walk with a pram/stroller.

BEWARE we saw rocks falling onto the beach from the cliff and nearly hit a woman tanning, so be careful of your surroundings
Great place for sunsets
A few restaurants/bars on this side but not as many as on Praia de rocha
No toilets on this side unless you're a paying customer
Lifeguards are very present
Lots of small caves to explore
Plenty of sea shells here
Fewer seagulls on this side

Stunning and very scenic beach.
The water is quite shallow for a while which is very enjoyable for a swim. The cliffs and stand alone rocks really add to the charm :)

I'm not a beach expert! This beach has great visual appeal, caves(large erosions in the cliffs and rocks) compared to it's next-door neighbour, praia da rocha, it seemed less populated and pretentious. Plenty of room to walk and not too many rented chairs and umbrellas. We stayed in front of the Rocha Azul, nice for cold ice slushies and beer!
Praia de Alvor is an expansive sandy beach with a wooden boardwalk and multiple seafood restaurants and beach bars. The beach is quite deep, particularly during low tide, and offers ample space for long walks on the flat sand. Behind the boardwalk, the sand takes on a more dune-like appearance which extends to where sun beds and umbrellas are available for rent.
Beautiful long clean (most of the time!) sandy beach with a lovely rocky cove accessible at low tide!

It's a beach. A big beach. Often windy. Not much to see or do but no people in winter. Boardwalk to the beach is more interesting than the actual beach.

We stayed in Alvor in February and this beach was our favorite place for an early morning or sunset walk. Very relaxing atmosphere: there were just a few people around and most of the cafes were closed due to off-season.

Lovely beach. Several concessions along the beach offering clean sunbeds for ten euros. Parking is plentiful and free. A board walk runs the full length of the beach and various bars provide good food and drink.
Being the Atlantic the surf is great and the beach itself is spotlessly clean. Really nice place to be.

I spent my days at Praia de Alvor (Alvor Beach) over the past week. It's a beautiful place and the people are really friendly. Just sitting by the water on a day like today is enough to clear your mind of any worries or stress.
My favorite part was being able to be with my partner to see the waves break and hearing that sound they make as they recede back into the ocean.
I hope you visit soon!

Lovely and fairly quiet (we went in July). Lots of beds available. Two beds for €12 which is a great price. There are public toilets in between the restaurants. And lots of drinks and snack options in the restaurants nearby. Easy to get Ubers there and back.

Beautiful sandy beach, especially at sunrise, when I was there it was nice and clean. Stretches far so there is lots of space, it's nice to walk along the shoreline, or along the boardwalk which leads down near a lighthouse and also down to the dock area. Enjoyed walking up the staircase over the left side of the beach, great spot for a photo as the view is good.
nicole — Google review
Alvor beach is magnificent. It is very deep, especially at low tide and very long too which is great for beach walks on the flat sand. Backed by the board walk the sand is more dune like which then extends out to where the sun beds and umbrellas are positioned that can be rented. Slide down the gentle ridge and you can head for the flat sand and the sea. Certain parts of the beach are more popular than others but as you head further west and almost as you pass the last beach restaurant then it becomes much quieter and more deserted. Worth the walk to the man made breaker which you can then walk along to the small light house.

The Portimão market offers a diverse range of food products, including fish, meat, cheese, fruits and vegetables, bread, wine and flowers. Additionally, there are a number of cafes available for visitors to enjoy. Local vendors also sell clothing items such as shoes and handbags outside the market stalls. The market is bustling with activity and provides an excellent opportunity to people-watch.
Headed to the market today. Great variety of foodstuffs for sale. Fish, meat, cheese, fruit and veg, bread, wine, flowers etc, also a few cafes in and out. Also some locals selling their own stuff, like clothes, shoes and handbags outdide. Great place to people watch, a lot of permanent stalls but some smaller that locals come and sell stuff from their gardens. Loved the hustle and bustle. Will definitely head back before we head on. Overall we have seen more architecturally nicer markets but overall a wonderful place. Cheers 🍋🍓🍎🍐🍉🥝🍊🍌🍅🫑🥑

Always a pleasure. Fresh, local produce. Cheap, and juicy fruit. Veg is lush and if you're into your fish, this is the place to go. Visit everytime we're here.
And the little café in the market make the best "tosta mista" with sourdough bread. Amazing.

Great market with amazing selection but make sure to get there early to get the best choices. Make sure to check the produce thoroughly, some sellers will sell rotten items or items past their best, hence get there early!

We visited Wednesday when is open until 2:00PM. Is bustling with action. On one side, there are the home goods, clothing, shoes, handbags, etc. The other side has fruits, vegetables, fish, meats. All looking delectable and tempting. It is a great opportunity to experience the local flavor of Cascais. Unfortunately, as a tourist, is not possible to buy anything else but fruits from the market, if staying at a regular hotel. My husband bought a very good pair of leather shoes for a reasonable price compared to France. He is very happy with them.

I'm not entirely sure that I saw the whole market, so I apologise if the info is incomplete.
I saw fresh seafood, meat, bakery, fruits and veggies. We bought bread rolls from the bakery and they were still warm. That was so so good. It was difficult to choose between the different vendors because everything looked equally good. Herbs were inexpensive, but mangoes cost a bit more. All in all, I thought this was a nice market. It only got 4 stars, because it seems a bit small. But again, that could be because I might have missed some of it.

Loved it. Clean place and fresh produce. Price are reasonable. Went two mornings in a row, because they didn't have fish on Mondays.
The seafoods only are available Tuesday onwards. The squids -amazing - comes in various forms and sizes, some bigger than my 2 palms put together. We loved the exotic barnacles (percebes) too - boil for few minutes in water with salt & sliced ginger - easy to cook and taste good and super fresh.
The chicken is cheap - we used 1 whole chicken to make Chinese ABC soup for 10pax. It cost less than €4 per chicken The chicken meet was sweet, juicy and the skin didn't have fats to it. Delicious!
Vegetables and fruits were fresh and yummy too.
Most of the sellers don't speak English but were friendly, willing to help us and explain to us some of the vegetables that we were not accustomed to.
Oh, the pumpkin jam with walnut or almond is a must try. They sell many types of cheeses too... 😋😋
Highly recommended to visit than just buying these produce from the hypermarkets.
However for strawberries, we found them much cheaper at Continente or Pingu Doce, more then half off!

Well suited for self-catering.
Praia João de Arens is a stunning beach with breathtaking views from its top paths. However, visitors need to be cautious as there are steep drops along the way. It is advisable to wear trainers instead of flip flops when traveling down to the beach, which can only be accessed via a narrow cliff pathway. The beach itself is renowned for being a nudist destination and offers an opportunity for visitors to explore caves in their natural form.
Very exciting boat trip and dolphin schowcase from marina de Albufeira to Ponta da Piedade with crazy brazilian girls.

Beautiful wild beach, very secluded and quiet most of the time.
No official maintained access or stairs. You will have to hike down to it or access by kayak. It is an UNOFFICIAL clothing-optional wild beach, so be prepared. But as a note: people claim it is a gay men's beach, but it is meant for all people. Including spearfishermen!
Some visitors can act a little hostile to women and/or people who don't want to remove their swimsuits. There is no law that says you must be naked, so you do not have to listen to these people. Perhaps people should relax a little. This beach is for "uso e costume naturista", but it is not officially nudist. It is tolerated and the tolerance is meant to work both ways when visiting unofficial (by the FPN) wild beaches. Men complaining about people wearing swimsuits here should keep in mind that there are only 3 official nude beaches in Algarve and this isn't one of them. You can complain there. Not here.
If you are uncomfortable with naked people or gay men, you shouldn't venture here, but otherwise, a public beach is a public beach and is allowed to be used by all. No one group owns the beach here.
The biggest problem is the same as many central Algarve beaches have now: "seaweed" or invasive red algal blooms (Asparagopsis armata) from Australia overtaking the coast due to climate change and ecosystem imbalance. It can make the beach unusable depending on the waves bringing it in. Sometimes, the entire sand is covered. When you swim out a little, you'll find a lot of it. Quite unpleasant when there is a lot of it, and is a sign of unhealthy water as it releases many toxins into the water to kill competiting organisms so swim and use the beach with caution when algae levels are high. This little cove can collect quite a lot.

In the case of this beach, the water did not look completely clean. Maybe luxury at other times, but we probably wouldn't take a bath that day, so just a photo from above. But otherwise the colors are amazing.
Radim Lokoč — Google review
the beach may be nice at other times but today it was 100% all over full of algae/seagrass. you couldn't go in the water anywhere without swimming through 5 meters of dirt first. naturist beach.
Matthias Ha — Google review
Absolutely breathtaking area! Took a bit of walking around the perimeter to figure out how to descend to the beach, but was happy to do so because it's so beautiful and scenic.
Gorgeous clear water, rocky coves, caves to explore and fish to see when snorkeling.
Only thing I'll note: based on reviews I assumed this was a naturist beach, with a gay section through the cave. I've not found this to be the case. Myself and my boyfriend were often one of only two, or three, naked groups both times we visited, and definitely the minority as quite a few people are there this July. Many kayakers also dock on the beach, and boats stop in the bay, so it can feel a little exposing. The supposed gay section didn't feel very gay either bar the odd couple.
Even so, absolute must see. It's a glorious area. Also as a top tip for folks without cars - an Uber is less than 5eu from portimao!
River Molloy — Google review
Very beautiful nudist beach. Yes it’s a nudist beach and it’s a great experience to walk into the caves naked!!! Can crawl to the gay beach section through the cave when the tide is low. Nice view from the beach. Just be cautious that the walk down to the beach is through a narrow cliff pathway.

Amazing walk but difficult to get to the beach there is no access that we could find so you have to climb down the cliffs, so not very safe. Of course you could access by boat. The problem is, there is no information so we wandered for almost two hours trying to find access to the beach, we almost made it but I was with my dog and chose not to risk it. Then we stopped to eat and bam! From January to March please keep your distance from the pine trees! The pine tree caterpillars are very dangerous. Me and my dog were affected and it was very painful and disturbing so if you go there be careful there are a lot of trees - just be careful not to touch the ground and the trees. Otherwise a fantastic spot for a bike ride and a super nice view for some great photos. Please park your car in the parking space before the path to the beach or your car( and you) will be very sorry...
Alexandra Rosa — Google review
Beautiful views from the paths at the top, but be careful, there are some big drops. If you plan on going down to the beach I would recommend wearing trainers and not flip flops as whilst doable for most people, it would be more difficult in sandals. Once at the beach clothes are certainly optional….

This is definitely one of the best beaches I have been to in the Algrave. We went here after benagil beach and absolutely loved it ! It's a beautiful and tranquil hidden gem !
It's gay friendly and you can get naked at the far east end. ( There is a small tunnel to go through ). There were other small caves that you can easily walk to.
It's tricky to find the track to go down the cliff , there are two ways, one of them is by going through a bush ( photo attached )
You can easily find free car parking at the top of the hill.

Wonderful hidden beach, with amazing swim-through and walk-through caves. Stunning views from the secret beach through the cave, and a natural arch. It is a nudist beach , just FYI, but absolutely worth a visit for the views, calm sea and relaxing atmosphere.
Praia do Alemao is a distinct beach in Portimao, situated on the western side of Praia do Vau. The beach is well-known for its numerous rock formations that surround it, providing visitors with many hidden spots to explore, such as arches, grottoes and secluded small beaches. It has a large sandy beach and calm sea that make it one of the quietest beaches around.
Gorgeous walk on the cliff right on the beach. The views from the top are breathtaking, and one can see a number of caves below. The different formations as a result of water runoff, wind, and waves make it a very interesting walk.
It is a bit of a hike but definitely worth the views. One can visit any time of the day, but watching the sunset from the top is definitely something else.
Aditi Varma — Google review
Incredible serendipitous find. An Uber driver recommended this in Alvor for a short hike to see the sunset and we were not disappointed.
Lovely short 2 KM walk to the edge of the cliffs through shrubs, woods and places overlooking caves. The edge of the cliff at the end of the walk also leads to a Naturist beach that you have to climb down to.
You can swim in the cove and then walk to the cliff to see the sunset, all in a few hours. There are no sunbeds or places to get food or drinks which for me was even better.

Praia dos Careanos is a serene and secluded beach located between Praia do Vau and Praia dos Tres Castelos. It offers a tranquil atmosphere with lesser crowds as compared to other nearby beaches. Accessing the beach requires descending steep stairs, but the picturesque view of unique rock formations and a long stretch of sand makes it all worth it. The rocks are beautifully layered with colors ranging from ochre to fiery red, creating a stunning sight.
On the ocean, I love how the tides can change the look and feel of the coast. We were here on a trip and I took pictures of the rock at both low and high tide. First we went through a dry leg, then it became an island. I think it was worth coming back. Beautiful, isn't it?

Small beach with cafeteria and not many people. Sandy beach going into the water, so no worries about hurting feet over rocks in the sea. I swam about 150 meters into the sea and it slowly brought me back. Splashing waves near the beach. Nice stars down from the road with some free parking space.

fantastic rock formations, white sand, water at a nice temperature, not too crowed, walking distances to town and if you go there early in the morning you may even have a chance to have the whole beach to yourself, there are lifeguards and some wooden shacks where you can buy a drink, also the beach is impeccably clean, not a piece of plastic to be seen, which these days is a sad exception World wide

Praia do Submarino, a stunning naturalistic beach, boasts breathtaking cliffs and captivating tides that can be accessed by boat or board. While caution is necessary, the view from above is truly awe-inspiring. However, if one has already witnessed similar cliffs elsewhere and is deciding between this location and another site, it may be best to choose the latter. Despite the challenging approach to reach Praia do Submarino's shores, many agree that the experience is well worth it.

Directions to Submarine Beach, one of the best clothing optional beaches in the Algarve
Honestly I was scared going as the directions were very vague and I was not sure how I was going to find it. When I did find it I was soooo happy that I made the attempt as it was one of the most unspoiled beaches I have ever been on.
Step 1: Look up tide times as you can only access this beach in low tide and if you stay too long you will be trapped here so go when the tide is going out and stay only when it is half way in. you can do this by googling Tide times Portimao
Step 2: you will need to Drive and Park in the field outlined in the map attached
Step 3: walk to the end of the road towards Casa da Guarda; make a right and walk around the two Gruta's (holes in the rocks looking down onto the beaches); keep following the path to the right and the path will lead you down onto the beach. It seems confusing so I have done a map using google satellite and put arrows. There are some pictures attached as well.
The beach and surrounding landscape is spectacular and I would say that if you visit here you may even skip out on the Benagil caves as these are just as good. You can wear water shoes and do the walk to the end of the line to see other small amazing beaches which are awesome. This is a clothing optional beach but there were a couple of people with clothes on so never fear.
Pack a picnic and enjoy your time as it is amazing!

Access is via steep rough ground, good knees and footwear recommended. Loses light well before sunset do to cliffs also avoid 2 hours either side of high tide.
