Daisen is a prominent mountain peak located in the Chugoku region and holds religious significance as a center of worship with a Buddhist temple. The trail to the summit takes approximately 2.5-3 hours, including a tea break, and is generally well maintained. However, in mid-November, snow and slippery conditions can be expected from an altitude of 1,600m. The autumn leaves below 700-800m are particularly beautiful.

Climbing Mt. Oyama in the intense heat of July. The wind near the summit, which is 1,700 meters above sea level, was cool, but I sweated a lot as I climbed. In midsummer, it is more comfortable to act before dawn. I climbed from the Natsuyama mountain trail at 7 o'clock, but I think it's more comfortable to leave around 5 o'clock.

2.5-3 hours to the summit (with a tea break in between) and the path is mostly well maintained.
In mid-November, it was quite snowy and slippery from around the attitude of 1,600m. The autumn leaves were quite nice below 700-800m I would say...
We liked the small shelter at the top of the mountain where we (and most of the people) had quick lunch break.

Very nice climb. I enjoyed it solo, but encountered many other climbers. It was a nice and hot day of August (18), 2017. The summit is as expected covered with clouds, which, if you're lucky, will dissipate and let you see the nice bay below.
I will do it again. It took me about 3 hours to go up and down. Yeah i know, i'm a fast climber. :-)

Pretty sweet hike; I'm a total beginner at hiking, but I made it to the top with a group of friends in about 2~2.5 hours.
The first half of the hike consists of climbing stairs, followed by climbing slopes and rocks, ending with a tranquil walk on a boardwalk. The summit is very beautiful, with a lot of vegetation and nature there; the only problem is you usually can't see anything from the top because it's very foggy.
There's a restaurant at the top that sells (overpriced) snacks and soda, but I don't recommend buying anything there.
Bring bug spray, or you might regret it.

It’s a beautiful mountain that’s has a well maintained route.
The problem is that the ‘summit’ isn’t actually the summit. There is another peak that’s about 20 meters higher and short distance away. You used to be able to go there but the route was closed and you’re not allowed there anymore.
There doesn’t seem to be any work underway to open the route back up.
Some people might not care but for me I don’t see the point in putting in the effort to climb Tottori’s tallest mountain if you’re not allowed on the tallest part.
I’d like to visit again but will wait until the entire route opens.
Ogamiyama Shrine Okunomiya is an ancient Shinto shrine situated in a serene mountain setting. The shrine can be accessed via a long, cobbled path made of rocks and gravel, flanked by old pine trees. Visitors are advised to wear appropriate footwear when visiting the shrine. This peaceful and tranquil location is not crowded during weekdays, making it an ideal place for beginners to visit if they wish to be alone with their thoughts.
Very quiet and peaceful. Beautiful shrine surrounded by forest and nature. Honouring the Mountain God.

Peaceful and tranquil shrine, and not crowded during weekdays. Great place to be alone with your thoughts. Recommended for beginners, just be sure to wear good footwear as the cobbled path is made of rocks and gravel.
From this shrine you may begin your ascend to Mt Daisen, or another midway point that is 20 minutes up (800m trek).

The Daisenji Temple is a serene temple located on a hill, constructed in the 8th century. It offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding forest and mountains. Visitors can climb up to another shrine or proceed towards Mt Daisen from here, making it an ideal spot for beginners with moderate difficulty levels. However, visitors should ensure that they descend before sunset as there are not many lampposts around.
This is the stairway entrance to 大山寺。entrance fee was 300yen per person. There’s a path on the left side of the stairways that leads to another shrine . We didn’t take it as the weather was too cold. Else it would be a lovely 15mins stroll in the woods. This is probably free.

Quiet and peaceful temple, sitting on a hilltop. There is quite a climb up to the temple. From the temple, you can also climb up the stairs further to another shrine, or to begin your ascend to Mt Daisen.
Recommended for beginners as it is not difficult. Be sure to make the descend before sunset as it can get dark without many lampposts.

(Translated by Google) Village ruins from the Yayoi period (3000 years ago – 1750 years ago). It has been designated as a national historic site. The ruins are large, covering an area of 156 hectares.
It is believed that the area from Yasugi City, Shimane Prefecture to the Tsumaki Banta ruins was the center of ancient Izumo, which flourished in the late Yayoi period. From 1995 (Heisei 7) to 1998 (Heisei 10), the ruins were discovered as part of the Keihan Group's large-scale resort development plan, including the construction of a golf course.
Because the ruins are large and valuable, the Keihan government decided to halt development. It was designated as a national historic site on December 22, 1999, and later preserved and maintained by Tottori Prefecture.
An area of 17.2 hectares was surveyed, and 395 pit buildings, 502 remains of dug pillar buildings, 24 Yayoi mound tombs (including four-cornered mound tombs), and ring trenches were detected. The village was in operation from the middle of the Yayoi period to the beginning of the early Kofun period.
It is a highland village thought to have been influenced by the Wakoku War, which occurred in Japan in the latter half of the 2nd century (late Yayoi period), and is described in the Biography of Gishi Wajin.

Although the station building has been renovated, this location has not changed since the original shipment. At that time, it was the largest transportation hub in the San'in region. It is located in the middle of the Izumo Highway, which runs from the Nakaumi-Shinjiko Economic Zone, which has been going on since the Edo period, and the only commercial zone in San'in, to Sanyo via Tsuyama.
Now that its role has ended, it has become an unmanned station and stands quietly.

The mountain trail is very well maintained, and from here you will have to climb about 1000 meters in altitude, but it will take you about 3 hours to reach the top.
The views just below the summit and along the way are worth seeing.

I used it for climbing Mt. Daisen. Very convenient for using the Daisen Natsuyama mountain trail. About 30 units. It's basically free, but only in winter it costs 1,000 yen (paid when descending the mountain). There are clean restrooms available 24 hours a day, even in winter. There is a climbing notification submission box. One thing to keep in mind when it snows is that the area to the right of the entrance is covered with tall trees, and as the temperature rises, the snow and ice on the branches will fall rapidly. Please be careful if you are driving a luxury car or changing clothes after descending! Note: Whiteout means descending immediately! Happy climbing everyone!

Morinokuni Forest Kingdom is an entertaining destination located in a wooded area, providing visitors with various outdoor activities such as rope challenges, bike paths, and guided hikes. Additionally, it features a spacious play area for children to enjoy.
We were here on a weekday afternoon and there were only a few people there, so paying admission and getting in was a breeze. My 1 year old had so much fun and didn't want to leave, and we were very impressed and intrigued by the whole area and equipment they had set up. It's obviously not a brand new park and the equipment reflects its age, but it's not a problem for us because it all still felt well maintained and safe. We hope to come back again sometime in the future!

Very nice place for children and family to play and do camping.
The entrance ticket is 1500yen while free pass is 2000yen - of course free pass ticket seems to be more reasonable, but people in same family need to be same ticket, so adults need to buy free pass ticket too even do not play anything :(

We went on a weekend holiday so the park was packed. We waited long to get checked. During the wait, the kids got so thirsty and we had a little trouble finding potable water. They should put up signs on the faucets if it safe for drinking or not. Rest of amenities are good. The kids enjoyed the playgrounds.

What a fun Forest Kingdom!! Not just for kids but also for the adults! It was ¥900 each day pass for adults and ¥700 for kids age 4-12. There are plenty of things to do. We brought our pop up tent 🏕 to relax while we watch our daughter play. Our daughter didn’t want to go and said “I wanna stay here forever!!”

A good place for camping and to have bbq! There is an obstacle course and treasure hunt activity, good for both adults and children. You may pay a fee to spend a whole day at the adventure course.
There is plenty of free parking available, and the you may bring your dogs to the park.

I can't even begin to explain how whimsical and wonderful this place is. We spent the entire morning, had lunch, spent the afternoon, had ice cream, and came home!! The kids had the best time and got to build confidence and problem solve through the obstacle course. Highly recommend it to anyone with kids!

Daisen-Oki National Park is a vast nature reserve featuring volcanic mountains, flatlands and the Oki Islands. The area offers hiking trails and educational museums. Despite its scenic beauty, it appears to be an underrated travel destination with low foreign tourist traffic. Visitors can enjoy a picturesque drive with multiple stops along the way and taste the iconic Daisen milk. It is highly recommended to stay at least one night in town accommodations for an optimal experience.
Mt. Daisen is my single favorite day-trip mountain in Japan. It is not only very accessible, but in less than 3 hours of leisurely hiking (I saw kids as young as 3 and elderly people as well) you can reach the peak area's boardwalk for some amazing views of the Japanese Sea in the distance. I even saw a tanuki up there! This mountain has such incredible views without needing to hike for an entire day to see them. The small town and Daisen Temple at the base of the mountain are also quite beautiful, and I recommend a newish looking gift shop and cafe that has a lot of local products for sale. The hike has two routes to reach the peak, and the one that is more often taken has a parking lot right at the start, though I parked at the impossible to miss large parking lot in front of the Daisen info center.

I believe very few foreign travelers choose a trip in here. Scenic driving and multiple stops available on the way here. There is a iconic Daisen (大山) milk nearby. Choose accommodation in town for at least a night. You won't regret. If you got lost on where to go in Kyoto or Tokyo. Try destinations only local people will consider and even young local people have limited knowledge of it. Do it.

The altitude here is quite high, and you can see the Sea of Japan and the Yonago city area, so the view is already good.
There are evacuation huts near the 6th station and just below the summit, where you can stay overnight in case of an emergency. The summit hut also has a toilet and a shop. The rich forest of Japanese fir trees is wonderful, but beyond that, the trees turn into shrubs, and if you look back during your break, you can enjoy a spectacular view of the world below, so it's a pleasant climb.
The area near the summit is gentle and has a wooden path to protect alpine plants, making it feel like you're walking in a park in the sky! I felt that it was one of the 100 Famous Mountains, the highest independent peak in the Chugoku region.
