The Saline di Trapani e Paceco nature reserve is situated on a salt production site and boasts marsh vegetation, seabirds, and a museum. Visitors can witness the salt collection process from the sea beds, where it evaporates due to exposure to sunlight. The area also serves as a stopover for migratory birds that come here to feed and breed. Flamingos are among the many species that frequent this reserve.
Fascinating place. If you’ve never visited a place like this then it is worth visiting. The visitor area was closed when we were there but there are plenty of places to walk around, just remember to respect the signs and the wildlife.

Unfortunately, we were more than disappointed with the Trapani salt pans. There is little updated information online, but it remained unclear when the salt would be removed. Where you can park remained unclear. It remained unclear whether there would be a tour on a Sunday. The mill itself was closed and the information office was closed when we arrived at midday. Unfortunately, I can't understand the good reviews.

At 20 minutes from Erice, it worth the detour to see the sea beds, from which they collect the salt after evaporation from the sun. vVarious migrating birds stop to nourish themselves, and nest their offsprings. We saw plenty of flamingo 🦩
It’s a bit hazardous, as it’s is located between a road offering no parking and where cars go really fast. Just be careful when crossing.

The Museum of Illusions Trapani offers an exciting opportunity to explore the history of optics, as well as indulge in delicious dumplings and ducklings. With over 100 pathways and extensive exhibits, visitors can delve into the rich legacy of pioneers. The museum is highly recommended with an included guide providing depth to the displays. It's important to note that ticket holders do not have to be present at opening time and can enjoy access for the entire weekend while Viator customers should be advised accordingly.
WAS JUST THERE LAST WEEK.will have you tapping your toes. Book this admission ticket and discover history of optics, dumplings and ducklings. An included guide adds depth to the extensive exhibits, with more than 100 pathaways to bring liveliness to the displays. Delve into mostly mogglywiggly legacy and learn all about the pioneers.
The museum was awesome. But a little piece advice. Advise people that purchase tickets that they do not have to be there at 10 when the museum is open. We rushed to get there only to find out we had all day...well as long as they were open and the tickets were good the whole weekend. Several people that purchased tickets from viator showed up thinking the same! But everything else was awesome

It is a guided tour, which has its pros and cons but the guide really knew what she was talking about. It's a small place but she took her time explaining the history behind everything and how it worked. Don't buy tickets on your laptop as the website doesn't have the correct format. You need to book a slot using the mobile website and then you just pay when you get there.

I've been to two other museums of illusions, but this is the only one with guided tours, which is great. Our guide, Clara, made it a very fun experience and explained everything in a way easy to understand. The guides also take pictures for you and direct you on how to pose.
The only downside for me was that you have to wear shoe covers, which kind of ruins these great pictures.
Reservation is a must as the groups are small, so the slots fill quickly. You are required to pay upon arrival.

The Museo Civico Torre di Ligny is a museum housed in a watchtower dating back to around 1671. It offers stunning views and exhibits local artifacts. The tower is part of the medieval city fortifications of Trapani, Sicily, which included other towers such as Torre Colombaia and Torre Nubia.
When I went there the museum was closed. So I didn’t go inside. But I walked all around the structure and there was so much beauty to enjoy. There were rails all around so it was safe. There were steps to go down to the rocks but be careful! The waves were pretty big. I really enjoyed it.

A fortification tower at the NW end of the old town. The tower is about three storeys high and has a small museum inside. The entrance fee is €1.00. The best part is the terrace on top of the tower, which provides a 360° view of the Mediterranean and Tyrrhenian seas, and over the town of Trapani. In the past, the four corners were furnished with canons. The tower still functioned as a lookout point during WW II.

A very disappointing evening.
The service is very lackluster.
We ordered a chicken and veal deconstructed burger. The veal one was ok, but the chicken one was awful. A small, thin piece of chicken, which was overcooked and dry. So dry it had curled at the edges, so they had cut it to try an make it lie flat. Greasy, overcooked dipper chips, three thin slices of old tomato and a lot of lettuce., to fill the space where the meat should have been.
Would not recommend this bar for food or service, there are much nicer places around.

Mercato del Pesce, also known as Trapani Fish Market, is a vibrant and authentic seafood market located near the old port of Trapani. Here, you can immerse yourself in the bustling atmosphere of Sicilian markets and witness the colorful spectacle of fishing boats unloading their morning catch. The market offers an array of fresh local fish, as well as an opportunity to pick up some fresh vegetables and fruits from the stalls outside.

Good place where to get local fish, fresh vegetables and fruit. But beware old or imported fish. If you cannot tell the difference, get help from some local. Vegetables and fruit are cheap and usually of high quality, but the quality of fish varies due to the weather (and richness of the catch of the day).

Great fish market. But the smell of drains and piles of rubbish let it down. The drain smell was so bad it puts you off buying anything. I'd also advise the local authorities that they need to tackle the litter and household waste issues in the area.

The Cattedrale di San Lorenzo is a grand Catholic church that was constructed in the 16th century. It is located near the Port of Trapani and boasts numerous examples of religious art. The church's roof panels are highly decorated, while its marble components feature eight pointed stars and intricate details. The cathedral of San Lorenzo is a pretty baroque cathedral in the center of the old city. As with many churches in this town, and in Italy, the church façade and gates are lining up flush with the residential buildings to the left and right. I visited the church on a public (Feragosto) and religious holiday (Assumption of Mary), and a long procession was coming to an end inside the Cathedral. A very moving display of Italian Catholic religiosity.

The Chiesa delle Anime Sante del Purgatorio is a small church that showcases wooden sculptures used in Catholic religious processions throughout the year. These sculptures are part of the traditional Misteri procession held on Good Friday in Trapani. The church itself features scenes from the New Testament depicted through sculptures instead of frescoes, making it unique and worth visiting. During Good Friday, big stations of the cross are carried around town as part of the festivities.

You can’t go to TrapanI without visiting the Chiesa Delle Anime Sante Del Purgatorio.
This church houses the 20 life-size statues used for the annual Good Friday procession in Trapani. This tradition began in the 16th century.
Each statue sits on a platform carried by 22 men for 24 hours. A marching band accompanies them. Many people from the town follow the procession throughout the night, which covers the entire city.
I was fortunate enough to experience this 15+ years ago. It is one of the most moving religious events I’ve ever attended.

Very easy, affordable and trustworthy car rental service. I communicated with Gianni via emails and he was flexible and gave us a great offer. The process was straightforward with no need of a credit card and a reasonable deposit for the insurance. I would definitely recommend them for those who want to support locals and stay away from big companies like Avis who overcharge and have very poor customer service. This shows why positive reviews matter and that renting a car doesn’t need to be stressful and suspicious. Even in Sicily!

Recommendable rental without credit card and deposit! We also appreciate the possibility to pay with cash and debit card. Really very good contact with the client via Whatsapp. We got a car in accordance with the order: Opel Corsa quite new, with a mileage of 41 thousand km, in good condition, meeting our expectations. We took out full insurance; the car was returned without detailed inspection and without any problems. The company very efficiently picks up customers from the airport and brings them to him after returning the car.

Porta Oscura - Torre dell'Orologio is a charming historical site in Trapani that dates back to the fourteenth century. It served as a boundary between the original fortified city and its later expansion. Therefore the base of the tower and the arched passage below constituted, since the origins of Trapani, the northernmost gate of the fortified city. Precious is the astronomical clock that was installed there in 1596, one of the oldest in Europe. Above is the quadrant of the Sun, below that of the Moon. In the first the longer hand indicates the hours while the shorter one indicates the position of the sun in the twelve houses of the zodiac; in the second the longer hand marks the lunar month while the shorter hand marks the moon phases. A very interesting and superb masterpiece of astronomical mechanical engineering.

The lights have also been positioned very well and the ancient buildings are thus even more evocative. It is no coincidence that the city of Trapani has had a very significant boom and is very popular until the end of October. Of course this is the very center and the city is at its best, unfortunately there are still many points to be exploited and others even abandoned. However this is a place worth visiting

The Agostino Pepoli Regional Museum is a cultural hub that showcases various forms of art, including paintings, sculptures, and crafts. The exhibits on display also offer a glimpse into the rich history of the local community. Housed within a 14th-century Carmelite convent, this museum boasts an impressive collection of artifacts from different periods. One particularly intriguing item is the guillotine on display, which serves as a chilling reminder of the area's darker past.
Great regional museum. Worth a look for the coral works and nativity cribs. Very good painting collection. €6 entry (2023).

A stunning museum in such a beautiful environment, the ex-convent of the Carmelites, placed side by side to the Santuario dell'Annunziata (Sanctuary of our Lady of Annunciation) known also as Madonna di Trapani.
The rich patrimonium of the museum is originated from 3 private collections (Fardella, Pepoli and Hernandez') . There are very important manufactures of the Malophoros shrine in Selinunte and other referring to the Phoenician culture coming from the escavation of Mothya, Birgi and Lilibeo. Incredible amphora with its lid and gymn scenes painted dated back to VI Century A. C. This is "black figures" whereas among those with red paintings the most relevant is the Crater decorated with a design of a Dionisiac dance. Important archeological finds coming from First Punic War are also present.
The museum preserves also hundreds of pieces that testimony one of the most important activities of Trapani, the art of coral, know abd esteemed all over the world.
Definitely a must stop museum.

The Chiesa del Collegio dei Gesuiti is a magnificent religious building, although it may be difficult to gain entry as it is often closed. Visitors may have the opportunity to witness a wedding or other celebrations if they are fortunate enough to encounter an open day. Admission costs one unit per person and receipts are not always provided. The church is breathtakingly beautiful and well worth admiring for its architectural splendor and spiritual significance.

(Translated by Google) But what stuff is it? Offer obligatory at the entrance to view the Church (?) The royal nativity scene (?) And the catacombs (! ?!). The dusty church, with rubble and without sacred furnishings: practically an abandoned construction site. The royal nativity scene? Dilapidated. Parts of a ..... nativity scene that has very little of "regal" about it. The catacombs? Apart from the staircase to go down which does not comply with any safety regulations, they tell us that they cannot be visited (just 5 minutes earlier they had praised them). Truly a joke!

Western Sicily , with its Arabic lines and atmosphere, has the colors and scents of Africa . The history of the area is linked to the sea. Its cities are ancient trading ports surrounded by small fishing villages and its landscapes are enchanting white salt plains that offer dreamy sunsets .
The port city of western Sicily , Trapani , also called the city of the two seas, lies on a crescent of land that juts out into the sea with two peaks dominated by the Torre di Ligny and the Lazzaretto.
Due to its strategic location, ancient Drepanon was first an Erice warehouse and then a Phoenician commercial port. The city subsequently became a Roman province, but it was the three centuries of Arab rule that scarred the city the most .
