The Derry Walls are a 17th-century set of defensive walls in Derry, Ireland. They were built to protect the new English and Scottish settlers from attack, after they had moved to Ulster as part of the Plantation of Ulster.
Sad to say that this has been something that divides families and culture. But Derry is a beautiful city and has so much to offer as a city.
Regardless of which side of the wall you live in ... As a tourist I have to say that you have a beautiful town . That no walk will take away it's charm.

Great bit of history touring around the city walls. Lots of different shops, unique cafes, pubs and restaurants. So much history in this city - not all good but all very interesting. A must see. Not easy if you’re less able bodied though.

Walking this wall and listening to Derry's history and walking parts of the wall is a must. Through the stories you feel what drives this beautiful city and in the message of peace it has now.

Had a wonderful weekend in Derry. Stayed at the Shipquay Boutique Hotel. The place was gorgeous & the staff couldn't do enough for us. Derry is a beautiful city. The walls were a highlight to our weekend, the history is engrossing. The view from the walls is spectacular, especially if you understand the land. Amazing weekend!!!

Certainly a nice attraction to the city although I wasn't able to see as much of the city as I expected from the walls, also their not very accessable to those who travel with bike and on wheel chair. Having said that, the information spots are plentiful and a joy to read

This was a very interesting walk around the walls of Derry. Views from the top around the city are excellent. Our guide was very informative. Despite the controversy of events in history, he dealt with them very diplomaticaly. Very educational. A city steeped in history.

Was given an impromptu tour by a local resident friend which started at the Peace Bridge and went anticlockwise. All of the marked attractions are worth investigating further, and the opportunities to stop off for refreshments is easy enough. The walls share visual similarities to those of York and Chester. We also witnessed the nationalist Easter Monday procession and subsequent riot... From a distance!

Nice walk around history. It's an easy walk, depending on your level of fitness and doesn't take too long. If you're not local, a guided tour might be more interesting

This place doesn't require any entrance tickets, it's about walking around and enjoying the atmosphere. The historical center is pretty small, but it has really nice atmosphere. Right behind the old walls you can see the new buildings that quire disrupt the old nostalgic feeling, so I recommend to focus just on the historical center, if you go for it.
I liked that there were multiple information panels at various places that were providing some basic information about the history of the concrete place, its original purpose, and changes in that purpose by time.

In this day and age, they should be accessible and more inclusive for all (prams, walking aids and wheelchairs). Also, keep the yahoo's that are putting on performances from annoying people while walking the Derry City Walls.
It's nice to learn the historic side of our country and hear about it. But how these dressed up characters forcefully walk towards and after people making nasty statements about different historic characters is uncomfortable. They should make sure people want to hear them or even better set them up in a specific area and put on a professional show.
The Museum of Free Derry is a small museum dedicated to documenting the civil rights movement and early conflict era in Northern Ireland. The museum is located in Glenfada Park, which was once a housing estate that came under heavy attack during Bloody Sunday (1972). The museum provides a great overview of the political history of the city, as well as artefacts from Bloody Sunday and its aftermath. It's an amazing experience that should be visited if you're in Derry.
Outstanding. Chilling and educational. An absolute must if you are in Northern Ireland.
Mark Fischl — Google review
Don't deny yourself the chance to experience this museum and see Derry's history through the eyes of the locals that lived through these events. The content within is extremely engaging and tells the story of the people and Derry well with people who have experienced these events working there the day I visited.

I really appreciate that when you enter the doors to this unbelievable building, you are always made to feel comfortable with the help of the staff guiding you around what you are interested in. I have attended a lot of events from poetry night singers, and more importantly, in my opinion, all the events helping the people in Gaza. I would highly recommend looking at Eventbrite to see what is happening.

Freedom is never simple. History will make us cherish it more. I stayed here for a long time and I think if you come to the island of Ireland, you must visit it, including the streets and museums.

Visited the museum today 8th April 2022. Was very moved by the artfacts on display. I think a everybody should pay a visit to the museum. I feel very proud of the Derry people, who still fight for their civil rights to this day. Well worth a visit.

This small but fantastic museum, exploring the Irish struggle for civil rights in Derry and run by the Bloody Sunday Trust, was the highlight of my trip. Make sure not to miss the explanatory video at the beginning of the exhibition that helps frame the Troubles in context. Staff are very knowledgeable and helpful, and happy to help with any questions.

Pretty moving exhibits with the added emotion provided by having the older brother of one of the slain protesters, as a tour guide.

Very informative on a sensitive chapter of Irish history, delivered by the community with passion & an understanding no text can match.
Lorcan Scott — Google review
Overall informative for such an affordable admission.
I wish it had more about post Bloody Sunday events. It focused very specifically on this in intricate details and not other events after or anything else. My only other negative comment is you spend about 3-5 minutes getting a “host” to sort of tell you about what the museum is about and how to walk through. He was practically whispering while the automatic doors open and closed. Colleague about 15 feet away was speaking louder than him as they answered questions about Entry fees.
Worth it for anyone visiting Derry and wanting to learn about the history of this area. We went here first and it gave us the perspective to understand other tours we were given and the sports we visited.
Morgan Crockett — Google review
Very educational and informative of historical events in Derry. Within the NI education curriculum, it's a very one sided account of history. However, the museum has shown (with a plethora of evidence and first hand accounts) what really happened 50+ years ago. Highly recommend a visit.
K C — Google review
The museum itself is small don't be deceived it is well worth a visit and the reasonable entrance fee. Staff are friendly, make sure to book the free Derry walking tour at the same time. The museum itself gives a history of the bogside, free Derry, civil rights and bloody Sunday. Laid out chronologically including a mix of video and physical exhibits. Packed with information.
Highly recommend.

The people working at the Museum are incredibly friendly and informative, more than happy to have a yarn. The museum for a modest price presents the unfiltered truth of the area, and in my opinion is the most important thing you can do in Derry.
To everyone involved with the museum, keep up the great work!

It's one thing to know about events in other countries but it's quite another to see the impact those events have. One of the volunteers spoke to our group about his personal experiences during the The Troubles and people he lost. This was a moving experience
Audrey A. — Google review
Visited the museum today. Highly recommend to get the history and background of what happened. There’s a path you follow with some artifacts, pictures, and videos. I would also recommend combining with a tour with John McKinney whose older brother was murdered on Bloody Sunday. If you do both, you get a discount.
The Free Derry Corner monument commemorates the time in 1969-1972 when Bogside was an autonomous nationalist area of the city. It is a single standing wall in Lecky Road, which marks the entrance to what was once a row of terrace houses. The district has since been redeveloped and now contains many expensive homes.
The museum is a memorial, is small, but full of a great human history, a tragedy of the years where civil rights were fought. It is meant to be a moment of reflection on the past and an example for the future. If you visit the country make a stop here, it is located in the neighborhood where Bloody Sunday took place. Walk around the houses to admire the murales and then go to see the council chamber where the trial took place in 1998.

What can I say about Derry that hasn't already been said here. The most wonderful, amazing and enchanting place I think I've ever been to. If you don't know the history of Derry you need to dispense with Google and news papers and come here and be enlightened about how wonderful these people are. I've never felt a stronger sense of community and ownership of a home. Clean streets, fair prices and most of all friendly people who just want you to know about their history. "A nation that keeps one eye on the past is wise. A nation that keeps two eyes on the past is blind." Being from England I'd been steered in my understanding, I consider myself to have been educated by my visit. If you've never been to Derry, you're missing out in a very big way. Thank you Derry, you have a new and grateful friend.

The #Bogside murals in Derry, Northern Ireland, are a series of large-scale artworks located in the Bogside neighborhood. Created by the Bogside Artists, a trio comprising Tom Kelly, William Kelly, and Kevin Hasson, these murals depict pivotal moments and figures from the Northern Ireland conflict, known as “The Troubles.”
The existing twelve murals are located on walls in Rossville Street in the Bogside area of Derry.
No tickets needed if you are visiting this area by yourself. However if you want to know more about the history then I would recommend doing the walking tours.

A must-visit for all who want to learn significant Irish history. It can be very crowded with tourists and school groups so parking can be difficult, but if visiting from out of town it's not a far walk from anywhere in Derry. We visited on our own and found it easy to navigate the murals and history, but the city offers many different tour options for those who'd like a guide. Was quite emotional to read and feel the history in the atmosphere.

The Guildhall is a beautiful neo-Gothic town hall with stained glass windows and a local history exhibit. It is the civic and cultural centre for the people of Derry, and it houses many concerts and exhibitions during the year.
Very pleasantly surprised by the staff of the guildhall. It is free of charge as we walked in. We were greeted well. We were asked to take our time and go around and see the place. The history of dairy city is very well. Depicted photography is not allowed. We were allowed to take pictures of The strained glass work.
Very rich with history. It is right outside the row of canyons of the walled City. It is opposite to the peace bridge. Huge row of fountains outside was definitely a good amusement for the kids

I'm always tetchy about going into administrative buildings, but I was told it was free to go inside and worth visiting by the tourist office. And they weren't wrong!
Really friendly greeting at the door by a lovely lady, she told me what to see (the exhibit is good) and you get to see cool stuff like the grand hall with the cool blue & gold pipe organ, the committee hall and even a Nobel Peace Prize.
And given that IT'S FREE, it's totally worth going inside to have a look around and take pictures and stuff.

The Tower Museum is a museum in Derry that focuses on regional history. It has two permanent exhibits - The Story of Derry and An Armada Shipwreck - which tell the story of the city's turbulent history. The viewing platform at the top of the tower provides great views of the city.

An excellent introduction to Derry/Londonderry. An immersive experience in taking you from ancient times to the present day via the troubles whilst the Spanish Armada exhibits are world class (and rightfully dominate several floors of the museum).
And thankfully they also have a small display devoted to The Undertones who helped to put the city on the map, at least musically!
A bargain at Four Pounds for admission.

I had the great pleasure of visiting the Tower Museum in Londonderry a couple of weeks ago. I have to say that it was a fascinating experience in a really well laid out Museum.
The thought process in the layout was exemplary and the way finding simple to follow.
I was captivated by the exhibition of artifacts from a lost Armada ship. The descriptions of all of them were so well done that nothing was left to the imagination.
All in all a captivating Museum and exceptional value for a modest entrance fee.
The Lady on reception was welcoming and very friendly. She explained how to get the most from the museum and and all the artifacts.
Many thanks for a wonderful experience.

The Bogside Artists commemorate the citys history through powerful murals. One depicts the Battle of the Bogside, a large riot that took place in August 1969 between residents of the neighborhood and the RUC (Royal Ulster Constabulary).
The fire is still burning

For some reason the google map showed us to some shops and offices. It caused our group a lot of confusion and wasted our time. The Murals that we saw were great when you find them but the only one near the canons is of the rather funny TV show, the Derry Girls, not the political ones. The Free Derry political murals painted by 3 Bogside Artists are in Rossville St in the Bogside are of Derry, along with the Museum for Free Derry and the Bloody Sunday Obelisk - all worth visiting.

Finally something to look at. The paintings are a real gem of the place - wherever you go, the boring site is changed into something interesting to look at. At the same time, this is a nice contrast to an old part of the city where it's mostly about old walls and far history.

Very quiet when we visited, there is a locomotive, a railcar and some coaches plus the usual station & signals hardware, posters, maps etc. Personally, I thought it a bit cramped, and a little dull. Staff so helpful . Recommended Taxi tour as an option as walking tour didn’t suit us . Vincent from Foyle Taxis was our guide. We couldn’t more highly recommend . Vincent’s first hand knowledge of “ The Troubles “ as he was born near Bogside was so informative . He had empathy & respect for both sides . It was a wet day & yet he allowed us plenty time to pop out at viewing spots & important historical locations . ( He was getting wet we had raincoats !) We both learned so much from the tour & already have highly recommended it to our friends .
Vincent also was so positive for the future as he could see how much things have improved from living through it all. A most enjoyable 5 star tour told from the heart with a heart .

Awesome place... Has a lot of Irish souvenirs. They also put a northern Ireland stamp in our passport for one pound, just for a rememberance.
Located in the walled city of Derry, St Columb's Cathedral is a 17th century Gothic-style church that is home to a number of historical attractions, including an earlier Big Church dating back to the 1100s. The cathedral is full of historical artefacts and features a Planter Gothic style that was popular in the early 1630s.
Gorgeous cathedral, attended a fantastic candlelit concert here - highly recommended to all

NEVER OPEN?!
Even though they list the new-revised opening times on the door - it was seemingly never open when I went. Tried to visit twice, both times around noon (they say they're open 10:00am-3:00pm) but found all the doors to be locked solid. Not sure what's going on there, cool to look at from the outside though.

The church lies again. It says open mon to sat for prayer and meditation. Also for visitors. All doors were locked when i visited at 10am. I did see the vicar going out in his new car. Must have been going to get a gold filling.

Went to see the Christmas trees display. First time in here, and it was a lovely peaceful experience. One of the choir members was there as a helper he was very chatty, warm, and welcoming.

A very interesting building with a lot of history that most places would give there right arm for, well worth a look around.

Nice cathedral, but the people who were they were the best! They were so thoughtful and patient with us, as we trying to find where ancestors were buried, and information about them that we didn't know about.

Well worth a visit if you are in the city. Presently hosting a celebration of Christmas trees. Houses a collection of items from the city since the 1600 hundreds. Free entry, an active cathedral that encourages visitors and holds interesting events such as music concerts as well as religious services.

Absolutely had an amazing time at this event. The candlelight made a great setting and the acoustics in the cathedral were amazing.

The Siege Museum features exhibits on the Siege of Derry and the Apprentice Boys of Derry. The museum is located just a 10-minute walk from the Craigavon Bridge and it contains artefacts from the siege as well as first-hand accounts.

I really enjoyed learning nore if the history of Derry here. The video was very informative ans interesting. The only thing was the man at reception didn't have answers for some of our questions about the history. Although he was friendly and tired to give us the answers. Really great museum.

I really wanted to like this museum as I was interested in the subject matter, and the video was good but I found the content was otherwise presented in a biased and often aggressive manner, which I found off-putting

This is well worth including in your itinary of places to see in the Maiden City. It describes the history of the siege and the dreadful conditiobs endured by the people during the siege. The constant bombardment by the Jacobite forces, the diseases and lack of food etc show what it was really like to be an inhabitant of a besieged city. There is a lift if you cannot manage stairs and a nice gift shop as well.

The Derry City Cemetery is a well-maintained burial ground where the deceased are interred with care and respect. The graveyard's neat appearance is a testament to the dedication of its helpful staff who ensure that it remains in good condition. It provides a final resting place for individuals, including those who have been recognized as exemplary figures in their faith, such as Sister Clare, who has been revered as a model of holiness.

The Millennium Forum Theatre and Conference Centre is a leading performance arts venue in Northern Ireland. It features a large theatre stage and seating capacity of 1,000. The Piazza area of the venue has marble floors and is reminiscent of an Italian piazza. The Millennium Forum hosts a variety of arts and entertainment events throughout the year.
An absolutely wonderful experience awaits within the forum, specially at Christmas time.
The world famous travelling comic William Caulfield has been the resident 'big name' Panto star there for a number of years now. Supported by an incredible cast including Orla Mullan and Keith Lynch with Rachel O'Connor and Connor OKane sharing the stage.
This year was an absolute top class performance by the whole cast. With the little cast members impressing my daughter with their fabulous dancing! The music, dancing and singing was in my opinion slightly influenced William's love of vintage scooters and the music associated with them.
We decided on making this a family trip so we could remember my mummy who passed away Christmas 2018 with happiness and laughter instead of sadness.
I think we chose wisely 😀

Came here for Chaos MMA event on Sat 12th November. All the Milllenium Forum staff (bar staff, security, event staff) were lovely, like everyone we met in Derry. Our son was fighting and we chatted to one of the security staff on the way outside about a taxi. He gave us a lift rather than have us wait around late at night for a taxi and gave is an impromptu tour of the city, pointing out spots for us to return to the next day. So sound.. wouldn't even take the price of a pint off us to say thanks. Great venue with great staff in a great city with great people.

Dirty Dancing in Derry! The last of our tour in Ireland. What a cracker of a city to be in. I love it completely. Absolutely beautiful. Top five for me so far. It's alright, with a performer like Paul Heaton on stage with an incredible band you could forgive this place a lot.
Generally the place is shabby and dusty. Staff were nice but they held no rule with people arriving in over an hour late. People were shown to their seats up to 2 hours into a 3 hour gig. Very disruptive at a seated venue.
Yeah I probably sound old saying that but seats are more expensive tickets for that reason.
Philip Swan — Google review
Venue - Very Good, organisation- not so good.
Visited for a Graduation - the auditorium is quite intimate, seating comfortable.
Upon exit from the auditorium at the end of the event into the foyer the area was very congested. Nibbles were available in this area which contributed to the stagnation of human traffic. I was glad to get out though a side entrance where some smokers were congregating and I don't smoke.

Went here recently to see a comedy show. The venue itself was very easy to access and had stairs and a lift to move between floors. Staff were very helpful and friendly and we felt very welcomed. The show was brilliant. Our seats were very comfortable and we had no issues seeing or hearing the act.
Will definitely be back.

The Millennium Forum was built to mark the new Millennium it took over from the Rialto theatre where Primark is based opposite, it has a wonderful atmosphere inside the main arena when a show is on and has great views of the main stage from where ever you sit, my only thing I need to ask is we were not allowed to take in our coffee yet people who had alcohol were allowed? Since my last post we went to see Ben Portsmouth singing Elvis and I must say it was a fabulous venue for it lighting, seating view perfect would highly recommend a visit to any show at the forum

If you love shopping, then it is definitely worth taking a trip to Foyleside Shopping Centre in Derry. The mall features some of the best stores in the North West, including department stores and restaurants. Plus, there's valet parking for convenience.

Since this shopping centre opened I was a regular customer lots of various shopping 🛍. I was in the town area, Millennium Forum, for a new initiative, Drama Group facilitators Bernie Mc Farland, and her friend Gretti. That's what prompted me to go to Foyle side shopping centre for lunch. I have various medical conditions, mobility issues, and mental health issues that have gotten worse over the years. So it brightened my mood to be able to go out of my home from midday to late afternoon. This shopping centre is in Derry Northern Ireland 🇮🇪 my hometown x ⚘️ 🌈 🌎 🙏

This is the better of the two shopping centres in Derry. It has some of the major high street players but not all.
The centre is clean and bright but tends to get rather warm
I wasn't particularly fond on the food but that is down to personal taste. There's nothing wrong with it
The areas are reasonably assessible to most people with lifts and escalators but they do seem to be in odd places sometimes.
Plenty of parking in to be had in the multi storey

Brilliant shopping centre and ideal to have it available and so close to Coleraine - we need to use it more often as it is really only half an hour away.
Fantastic range of shops, and the City has a lovely vibe, like a mini Dublin in lots of ways and quite distinctive from Belfast which is great - it has its own personality and character and the people are really friendly.

The picturesque park setting of St. Columbs Park is perfect for a relaxing afternoon stroll or summer picnic. The manor house at the park was built in the 18th century and today it's used as a conference center with a cafe on the ground floor.
Fabulous place. Was extremely disappointed to hear that the rope swing area had to be closed due poor behaviour from youths. This park is a valuable asset to the community, it is well looked after and offers so much to all in the community. Every time I return I always make time to walk around it. Spent many years running around it and playing in it. My wee lad loves seeing it when he comes back with me now too.
