Rosses Point is a locality in County Sligo, Ireland and also the moniker of the adjacent headland. Positioned at the inlet to Sligo Harbour from Sligo Bay, Rosses Point boasts Oyster Island as its slender elongated feature.
Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery is the largest megalithic cemetery in Ireland and one of the biggest stone age cemeteries in Europe, boasting about 60 monuments such as dolmens, passage tombs, and stone circles that adorn its rolling hills. It's located near Sligo and believed to be older than Newgrange by 700 years. The site offers guided tours and a visitor center situated in a nearby cottage for an immersive experience.
Truly an amazing place! You will walk a little in a field but it is easy. Definitely worth it!!

A fantastic collection of old tombs from the Neolithic Era.
This is the oldest of the four large Neolithic cemeteries in Ireland. There are a collection of stone circle tombs. They can be accessed via a visitor centre. The price is five euro entry for an adult and the tour is self-guided. The complex is the oldest and the simplest of the four, and the tombs are not as structurally impressive as Newgrange or Knowth. But the place has a great charm, and the setting is very beautiful, with Benbulbin and Knocknarea visible from the tombs. Well worth a visit for anyone interested in Stone Age history.

Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery in County Sligo is considered one of the “big four” sites of megalithic sites in Ireland, together with Carrowkeel, Loughcrew Cairns and Brú na Bóinne. Carrowmore is the largest megalithic burial ground in Ireland.
There are several stone circles on the side of the road opposite the visitor center. The large passage tombs, several dolmens and stone circles are on the same side as the visitor center. The top of the large passage is missing so that visitors can see the ground plan of the tomb. Unfortunately, ugly chicken wire is used to hold the stones in place.

Haven't been here in almost 20years. Great to see the developments. Halloween and Imbolc Solstice facing Portal Tomb (If I remember correctly). Very interesting. Hope it gets the UNESCO Heritage recognition.

Nice place - well, it's just rocks in the landscape and a small museum, but nevertheless: nice place.

Fantastic experience and beautiful area at the same time. Learn about the ancients and how they lived, from the information in the visitor area. You can either have a guided tour or choose to do as you please. The lovely staff (shout out to Sally) are very helpful and friendly, you will get a printed info sheet showing a suggested route to view the tombs with some information too. There are toilets also and large car park.

A pretty cool spot with some great history. The employees were awesome. We arrived at the site looking forward to it, but saw a sign that only cash was accepted. Given that we are from the US and only recently arrived in Ireland from the UK we hadn't yet exchanged our GBP for Euros. The employee allowed us in for free, but I did provide a tip of 10 pounds. The employee would not allow me to leave more.

Great place to visit. The staff were really helpful and answered all our questions. On entrance, you are given a map with a self guided tour on it and the staff explain how to use it. The map is handed in at the end to be re-used which is just excellent.
The tombs are all outside and there is a path to follow.
The little information centre is very helpful to place the tombs in context but it would have been good to see a few of the artefacts that were unearthed here (they are in the museum of archeology in Dublin).
Not dog friendly.

If you're interested in the neolithic age this is a fascinating place to visit, with 30 tombs across the area including the impressive 35m cairn at the centre. Also wonderful views of the surrounding mountains and tombs surrounding the area including Meabh's tomb.

Amazing history and beautiful area. Lots of history and views to inspire the mind and soul
Tobernalt Holy Well is a serene religious site featuring holy statues, where individuals can reflect and partake in ceremonies. The area is equipped with ample seating options for visitors to sit and pray or meditate, while the sound of water and birds singing create a calming atmosphere. Visitors should exercise caution when climbing the hillside stairs leading to some of the statues as they may be slippery when wet, but handrails are provided for safety.
Beautiful place. So quiet and serene. Very calming place. Can light candles if you wish too.

This is a lovely shrine, close to Sligo, which has an interesting history.
The location is quiet and peaceful. The soft sound of running water and the tranquil surroundings had a calming presence for reflecting. Be sure to look for the wishing tree

My very favourite place of peace and worship. Family trips have been made here and with many prayers and intentions over the years, it remains a very sacred place indeed. Great for the heart and mind.

Very relaxing and peaceful place. A nice little place to stop off. There are many seats all over the area so you can sit and reflect or say a quite prayer. The sound of the water is soothing along with the birds singing. There is steps up to some of the statues on a hillside, be careful if they are any ways wet as they can be slightly slippy, but there is also handrails. There is places at most statues to leave a light candle and a donations. Candles are supplied.

Once again we drove around, trying unknown roads to see where they would lead us to – and this time we stumbled upon this Holy Well. It's nice if you seek some calm and piece.

A favourite day trip when visiting my great grandmother many years ago; sadly you are not encouraged to drink the water any more. What is the point of going to a well where you cannot drink? There was an old tin mug on a chain back then.
The area is still well kept and is restful.
Sligo Abbey is a noteworthy historical site located in the heart of Sligo Town center. It boasts of Renaissance carvings, a well-preserved cloister, and a sculptured altar from the 1400s within its 13th-century friary. Visitors can easily park their cars and explore this remarkable monument without much hassle. Although there might be an entry fee depending on construction work updates, it's undoubtedly worth stopping by for anyone interested in history.
Nice to visit plenty of history here in the heart of Sligo Town center.
Don't shore if you need to pay entry because in that time they was doing works.
Easy to park the car and after you visit Sligo Abbey you can take a tour in the town center its beautiful worth a stop here definitely

This is a really good self guided tour. It's best to follow the guided map that will be given to you when you check in. You'll learn about things and see things, like hidden carvings, that might be missed otherwise. We really enjoyed it.

We managed to enter before they are closed for winter so do check if they are open before going. Entrance is ticketed but we entered free with the heritage card. We were given a laminated card that helps with the self guided tour. The kids have a cards of pictures where they go hunting for the objects in the card. Worth visiting although it's just a ruin, otherwise not much else to do in Sligo

The Abbey was very interesting and there is a self guided map of the historical highlights. The staff was friendly and very helpful. They helped me find one of my relatives gravestone from nearly 300 years ago!

Went on a Saturday and it was free. I am not sure how much it costs regularly but if you can visit for free it is a must in Sligo. Very informative and a lot of interesting things to see.

Sligo Abbey is one of the most historic cities in Ireland which shows glimpses of early days of history. Although much has been destroyed due to various historical events, the remaining parts have been conserved to demonstrate people of that time. The best part is the team of employees who love to talk and share the information about this historic site in detail to all the guests. A must visit if you are on a short trip to Sligo.

We visited here during our Ireland road trip. We passed through Sligo, Ireland, and googled things to see. The Sligo Abbey came up. It was free at the time due to renovations. Very cool to check out. As noted, it's a small area, but quite old and it was super interesting to check out all the stone memorials with hundreds-year-old engravings.

Sligo Dominican Abbey was founded by FitzGerald circa 1252. The beautiful monastery church has a 13th century choir, pointed-arch windows from the 15th century, a 16th century transept, and tower. The 15th century cloister with beautiful arches, columns and a pulpit is in good state condition and is one of the finest in Ireland.

Went here on an odd monday - it's a well maintained piece of history, and the people there are really knowledgable and happy to talk about it :)
There's also a cute little scavenger hunt for kids to find stonework reliefs within the abbey, which was even super fun and challenging for us adults! All in all it would be a 30 minute - 1 hour excursion

Actually a very small area, nothing much to see except old ruins. We were lucky to visit on the day with free entry. Nothing much to add more, if you are in Sligo you can visit, but be aware parking around the area gets busy and is paid parking only.
A great place to pass an hour or two. Brilliant craft market there every Saturday selling everything from Essential oils and creams to foods.

When I visit it, it was fairly hollow. It is hard for it to seem attractive when there is nothing really open. It is not bad other times of the week.

This is the first time we have been for a long time and we feel it has certainly gone down hill. There are not the amount of stalls and a lot of them are very similar.
I am sorry that you didn't like my review but my Grandmother always taught me to be honest. I was asked for my opinion and that is what I gave!

Most of it closed when we called in. I guess it would be more of a weekend jaunt.

Re: Market not Village itself - updating your Google info page to reflect when you are CLOSED seems like a simple & reasonable action to take if you are looking to attract business outside of locals. Issue is not limited to this market though, same for Sligo Abbey and nearby Parkes Castle. Very disappointing.

Lovely market. Beautiful crafts. Was hoping to get back next day, but didnt, to buy a poem from the man selling them. One in particular stayed in my mind. It was called the mother...about a vixen. Maybe I could buy it from him via post...don't need frame??
