Sacro Monte di Varese is a historical complex from the 17th century that boasts multiple chapels filled with art and frescoes. The uphill walk to the top may be tiring, but it can be done at your own pace while stopping to rest, take photos, and enjoy the view. The small village at the top is charming with its alleys and stone walls, offering a wonderful panoramic view. There are also museums to visit and restaurants with reasonable prices.
Winding mountain road from Varese, beautiful. Once at the top, park on the street (paid) and set yourself loose to explore this historical UNESCO city. Be generous with alloted time, you will need a few hours to go around. Lot of up and down hill walking, bring comfortable shoes.

Beautiful place, nice walk, great view. It's a pity that we didn't really find a coffee or restaurant nearby the parking point (First Chapel).
I was happy that the church was open.
The statues inside the chapels are not easy to watch and there are no English texts.

Great walk uphill, I little tiring but you can definitely do it at your own pace, stopping at each point to rest, enjoy the view, take some photos and drink some water. But GO TO THE TOP. The small village at the top is the cutest with all the alleys and stone walls. Plus the view is just wonderful. I wasn't sooo lucky because there's a bit of fog, so I couldn't see as far, but it was definitely worth it. Might go back to visit the museums and try to get a clearer sky. Plus, the restaurants have really reasonable price (haven't tried any as I took my own lunch).
I'd say it takes at least 3 ro 4 hours to truly enjoy all that Sacro Monte offers, whitout the visit on the museums.

Great place to visit if you are around! The "Santuario di Santa Maria del Monte" church on top is a must see! The lack of parking spaces makes it a bit hard to visit. Also if you don't speak Italian it's quite a puzzle to figure out things. All in all; a great experience!

Great but hidden unesco site that you should visit when in the neighbourhood. It concerns an unpaved road up the mountain which can only be walked. Along this secret way 12 chapels have been build. Each differently and inside being decorated with historical carved statues. It is a nice walk up and very calm and relaxing environment. Parking is a bit problematic but we finally managed to find a place.
Ewald Van Der Helm — Google review
Magical place. Follow a cobblestone path along many chapels, in each a depiction of Biblical stories though statues and fresco's. Not all the lights work in the chapels, which makes some art hard to see properly, but it's worth the walk uphill and pressing your head against the glass - especially if you think of the fact that all of these chapels were made in the 1600s. On the top of the hill, you are greeted by the lovely and storylike village of Santa Maria del Monte. There are a few free parking places at the foot of the Sacro Monte di Varese, but parking is reasonably scarce. The walk or "hike light" uphill is not too steep and very doable for anyone with okay condition, but might be challenging for people who have trouble walking up more than two flights of steps. Definitely worth the visit!
Santa Maria del Monte is also a great place to start a hike through the national park from, if you want more of a challenge.

So worth the walk up hills. Very interesting and surprising. Be care if you want to go in Santa Maria del monte church as no short shorts or vest style tops. There is a gift shop up there too. The village is interesting and pretty

Great walk in the Varese neighbourhood with 14 chapels up to the 'Sacro Monte di Varese'.
It is a nice walk, that you can decide to take from the bottom to the top as a pilgrim for atonement. If you are less fit, you can decide to start the visit from the top and visit the chapels in the opposite order (if you came by car, a bus would bring you back to the top).
It is not easy to see the interior of each chapel, but you will see more clearly on your mobile phone screen, if you put your device on the window glass of each chapel. Definitely a beautiful walk and a moment to think immersed in a nice environment.

Very beautiful panoramic view, the amaizing 14 architecture capellas related to Christian religion, with sculpture installations inside, you can even press the button and turn on the lights inside the installation!) There are also the restaurants on the top, so you can give yourself a reward for climbing on the hill)

Beautiful place for quiet reflection, and a peaceful walk.
Amazing view of the surrounding areas too.
Would make sure that you are surefooted, and probably not suited for a pram unless it’s a Thule buggy or similar as the cobblestones are quite large.
There is also limited parking facilities, so would suggest trying to visit at non peak times too.

We had the most amazing time visiting Sacro Monte. We were so fortunate to meet a guide who acted as a tour guide for us, his name was Vittorio Valenta. We asked if he had a map and he told us all about the churches and took us to a few. We would have viewed the chapels and enjoyed the experience. But Vittorio made the whole experience come alive with his knowledge and enthusiasm. We have a 12, 10 and 8 year old who hung on every word he said. We can’t thank him enough. We were hoping to say thank you on our way out but he was busy doing exactly the same for another family. Thank you Vittorio it was a highlight of our visit. Gina and Joe (Cardiff, Wales).

A must visit site if you find yourselves in the area. A beautiful settlement on top of a hill with a beautiful view of lake Varese and its surroundings.
There is a path you can follow to visit each chapel. There are also cafes and restaurants that you can visit to have a nice, drink or a meal while enjoying the view.
5 stars, Highly recommended!
Villa Panza is an 18th-century mansion located in a vast parkland, featuring both old and new art collections. The contemporary American artworks contrast with the neo-classical rooms and African/Latin American icons. English language support is limited, but a digital tour can be accessed via phone. For a fee of 15.00 per person, visitors can enjoy beautiful surroundings and take pictures in the park while experiencing various artists' monochrome and neon-heavy displays worth stopping for.
The villa was very beautiful, nice atmosphere and great places for taking nice pictures. The ticket per person is €15.00 and there is a parking place which costs €3.

There are not so many people in the park. So you can enjoy absolute calm and relaxing atmosphere. The house itself is good but I did not find something amazingly interesting there. The entrance is 12 euro
They have a nice restaurant Luce. It was full, maybe it should be pre-booked

Christoph Swiss — Google review
Please note that I am no fan of modern art, but I feel it would be wrong to judge them on that, since I did go willingly. The 3 stars are for the house and garden being lovely. Minus a star because €15 strikes me as expensive for the relatively few, (and monotonous), pieces of art on display and for charging €3 to park. It is very niche, but if one favors the school represented, one would probably rate it 5 stars.

Great location for interesting collection. We came in for the Turrel, we stayed for the mix of old and new. The big neo classical rooms contrast with the contemporary collection and the African and latin American icons.

What a fascinating place both inside and outside. We went mainly to see the modern American art. But found everything worth seeing. The grounds and garden are lovely. And the interior furnishings are spectacular. Then there are the surprising pieces of American pop art from the 60's intermixed throughout. The light installation across several rooms by Dan Flaviny was luminescentp and impossible to capture on photos. A delightful experience all the way around.

Parco Naturale Regionale Campo dei Fiori is a unique destination that blends nature, religion, and culture. The park boasts expansive massifs, beech forests, and wetlands that offer breathtaking views and hiking trails suitable for families and nature enthusiasts. Visitors can also explore the numerous chapels scattered throughout the park. At the peak of the hill lies a charming town with easy access to Varese.
Beautiful area, mystic forage with art, lots of hiking and beautiful plants and trees. Great for every kind of hike: long, strenuous mountain hiking or a family walk. Little downside is that many paths are made with cobblestones or have lots of rocks on the road, which for small dogs isn't ideal.

Fascinating and quirky villa with a diverse collection of art, sculpture, architectural pieces, glassware, ceramics and more. Great views from the Red room. Pretty Italian garden is small, but it's worth a good 1_2hours and can be combined with a visit to the chapels at the Sacre Monte Di Varese as the Museo is on the same site, near the top. Parking and snack bars also available at the top if you don't want to walk up from the bottom of the elevation.

We were so suprised by this house museum! I didn't expect this museum would be so rich in the collection and the architecture is so particular that I have never seen. I love so much the gate of Milan's Cathedral in the hall, the classic scene like pantheon, the building mixed with different languages but harmonious. Every detail tells his story, his passion and his unique personality.
The staff were very friendly and were willing to tell us many things about the artist even if we arrived quite late.

Absolutely delighted to visit the museum. So many beautiful artefacts. Hugely recommend to everyone.
This is how history is most effectively taught!
A wonderful example of how authentic history and anthropology is communicated well, this museum set in the beautiful gardens of the Villa Toeplitz Is worth spending a full day in! The collection of artifacts and photographs are carefully curated to give the visitor a great sense of the adventure that the Castiglioni brothers had and their dedication to recording the cultures that they knew were disappearing. These are then brought to life with explanatory videos that deeply connects one with the material being exhibited.
Besides the wonderful collection of prehistoric rock art (11,000 years old!) casts, what struck me most was the exhibit of the life of the Tuareg which is vividly conveyed by a diorama of a Tuareg tent with an explanation of all the items and their respective uses. We have all seen human mummies, but where else would one see a mummified camel?
If one is lucky enough to arrive on days when Marco Castiglioni is in the museum, one will be treated to an experience of speaking to an enthusiastic and passionate storyteller. Marco manages to convey all the salient points of the cultures of the people without overly romanticising the lives of these tribes. Talking to Marco, one is immediately entranced by the anthropology of these tribes and saddened by the loss of diversity that accompanies progress. However the sadness is balanced by the knowledge that the fact that his father and uncle managed to capture many practices on film before they were lost. I am also extremely heartened by the existence of Marco who, with knowledgeable flair, conveyed to me a huge sense of interest in the subject of African anthropology.
Words nor pictures will not replace what will be an unforgettable experience in this museum, so stop reading and get yourself to this unmissable experience in Varese. It is so much more than a "visit to a museum"!

Inside the archaeological museum and the civic museums.
Outside there is a beautiful park and a beautiful terrace where you can have breakfast, aperitifs, etc. In the shade or under the sun. Excellent service and reasonable prices.
Only one complaint goes to the management of the greenery in front of Villa Mirabello: please avoid cutting the grass with tractors or using the blower on Saturdays! Air and sound pollution. Thank you

The Basilica di San Vittore is a 16th-century church that features elaborate frescoes on its ceiling, an impressive bell tower, and Baroque-style architecture. The basilica showcases intricate designs throughout its interior and exterior, boasting ornate details that are characteristic of the period in which it was constructed. With its towering structure and grand aesthetic appeal, this historic landmark stands as a testament to the architectural achievements of early modern Italy.
The city hall is beautiful and the garden is gorgeous and it is massive as well. Most of the rooms are nice however the entrance is quite lack luster and dirty. Also there aren't many things to do. It is a nice place and it is very beautiful. However I had to stay there for more and 3 hours and I could only walk around, there was a choir but it was crowded as the room was quite small. Good experience and the scenery was amazing.

Despite planning the wedding from London, the communication from Carolina was excellent and we knew we were in safe hands. Their knowledge of the venue, local suppliers and how to manage a big wedding of 120 people made everything run smoothly (even with the tricky weather we had!). Their staff are very attentive and helpful and they were on site to support us throughout the day. The fireworks set up was WOW!
