The Saline of the Laguna Marsala is a working salt pan and salt-processing facility that offers boat tours and a museum. It is located on Mozia Island and has an incredible history to tell. The bike path runs the length of the laguna, but unfortunately it does not go all the way back to Masala nor up to Trapani as it should.
This place is worth visiting, especially if you are interested in food and want to learn more about sea salt production. The tour was very insightful and you can feel the passion of the company to pass on information on the tradition and craft of salt production. I can recommend to do the tour around sunset time as this is a magical moment. I was there mid of November, if u want to see the truly pink waters, your should go visit in late summer before the harvest period starts. No matter when a beautiful and enriching experience.

A fantastic place to enjoy the sunset, good wine and perfect music. By the way, Vito was very kind. We booked online, 30 euros and we had a table on the edge of the salt flat, you could drink as many glasses of wine as you wanted and they served us a fish couscous and a granita. The music was good company and at the end of dinner we enjoyed dancing. Keep in mind that you have to be on time to see the sunset!

Awesome view especially sunset!
We were there in the same day 2 times around 16.00 for get apéritif and 19.00 for dinner. Everything was perfect unless 2 moments:
- waiter forgot 3 times to bring additional drink
- on dinner we ordered meat tartare and after it both of us had really strong diarrhea and 🤮 … looks like meat was not fresh.

Good insight in to traditional process of salt production. The guided tour starts with 10 min informative video followed by small museum visit.
The guide then takes you across different areas of the premises to show the process in real life.
Worth visiting.

we would have really liked to do the tour, but when we went, we were
told there is only one tour per day at 12(noon) and we had missed it.
We then thought we would get a drink in the cafe/restaurant and just enjoy the view,
but the staff there were rude, especially when we said we didn’t want food, just drinks. The drinks we wanted we were told were not available and then we just left…

Booked a tour of the salt plains and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of walking through a place where man and nature worked together to produce something that flavours our food so well. Kudos to our guide, Marta, who did a great job of providing a concise summary education of the still very manual salt production and the delicate ecosystem of the salt pools. Don't miss this if you are in Marsala!

Purchased the “Salt Workers For A Day” package and have zero regrets! Great experience learning about the salt pans of the area, how salt is made and harvested, and loved the experience of getting to try it ourselves. We came on a lucky morning and harvested Fiore Di Sale and got to take some salt home from our “hard work” ;) Our guide seamlessly switched between giving us the English speaking version of the tour and then the Italian version for the others in our group.

The Ettore and Infersa salt works established in Marsala in Phoenician times are a wonderful and beautiful experience. We travelled from Trapani-Birgi airport along the provincial coast road and followed signs for Saline e Mulini and the Mothia and Stagnone Nature Reserve. After watching a very informative film about the saltworks our guide Alide took us on a very interesting tour of the saltflats explaining ever important detail of the work carried out and exactly how the salt was obtained and produced from this fascinating place. I quote from their leaflet “Anyone who truly wishes to discuss saltworks must come to this place in the west of Sicily the old very old saltworks founded by the Phoenicians”. (Voltaire)

Great place to go. Both for dinner/dawn as to spend the day. Take the time to go to Mozia island as well as to visit the windmill.
Incredible place with a lot of ancient history to tell
Cantine Florio is a winery in the neighborhood of Rome that has an interesting history and large selection of wines. The wine is tastefully presented in the cellars and barrels, making it a great place to visit if you are in the area.
Great Experience. I've seen a lot of wineries and I have to say this is one of the most astonishing for the dimentico s of its cellars and barrels, and also for the history linked to such a place. A must place to go of you are in the neighborhood
Davide P — Google review
Quite a letdown. This winery is so historic - this is where the Italians invaded Sicily in 1860, and there is a book and series about the Florio family (the Lions of Sicily). You can also read about it in The Leopard, the classic novel that's basically the Gone with the Wind of Sicily. The Targa Florio car rally that still happens in Palermo was started by this family. The wines are wonderful, but this is the most touristy place in Sicily. They herded us like cows, and we had to stand up for the tasting. Very stingy on both the wine and the food. It's on the water, but there are no vineyards here. The only thing I would change about my trip to Sicily would be to skip this place.
Sue D — Google review
Great guide who shared a ton of interesting historical information. Fun to see the barrels larger than anything we'd ever seen before.
Super lame they only let us try 3 wines with prepackaged snacks for 20 euros. In a smaller Cantina we'd tried ~15 wines for 10 euros and bought many more bottles since we'd had the chance to try a variety of them.

Place is great. Beautiful architecture, full of history and a really nice place to know more of the history of Marsala Wines. The low note is for the tour guide, who at the entrance was really impolite at my request of doing the tour without tasting wine. I was driving and my mom didn’t want to drink, and at that request she was really rude and made faces as it was disappointed (?) - you see, Giada, we are also owners of a vineyard in Brazil and and we treat our customers with the utmost respect despite their preferences on the visit. The treatment made me feel bad the whole experience and I wasn’t able to enjoy the moment. It’s unfortunate that one person can make such a big and strong place like this feel small and not welcoming.

"tour florio selection" €25 organized tour full of thorough history explained in great detail by a considerable and thoughtful hosts: Valentina Gambino, Maria Ellen Bello, and Sara Montalbano, of the oldest winery in marsala: cantine florio (duca.it) guided tour of the cellars (in italian & english) + tasting of 4 fortified marsala vinos: 2 marsala riserva, 1 zibibbo, and 1 passito di pantelleria, with 4 small food combinations : from 10:30am - 1p (2 1/2 hours), walked through the historic and working cellars with massive old oat barrels, and newer smaller wood one’s too. learned about the garibaldi & mussolini connection; and then the tasting was on a 3rd level outdoor terrace overlooking the sea, and ended in the vino shop. the best of the tasting was aged blend 15 + 25 year marsala semi-dry.

This historic Cantina has much to offer in terms of it’s Marsala wines but the tasting tour leaves much to be desired. I don’t recommend it unless you’re traveling in the winter or spring seasons. The tour was in an enclosed “cellar” that was very hot , with high humidity, and some mold which could bother some sensitive people. The guide was pleasant but her English was hard to understand. At the end , there was a tasting with no seating. Some guests were not able to stand the heat and extended standing- it was uncomfortable and unpleasant. None of these conditions were disclosed in the confirmation.

Mozia, an island city dating back to the 8th century BCE, displays striking monument ruins, salt pans and mills alongside a notable museum. Though expensive with the ferry ride costing 9 Euros and entry fee of 5 EUR, Mozia's natural beauty is breathtaking. The island offers an extensive area that can be easily explored within an hour's walk. It is a must-visit for those interested in ancient Phoenician history due to its rich maritime heritage and impressive museum collection.
Wonderful Archaeological island, founded by Phoenicians in 800 BC.
elza niero — Google review
We took the shortest boat ride to the Mozia Island. It costs 5€ per person. The entry to the island (museum) is another 10€ per person.
From a historic viewpoint the island is very important and the things we saw were absolutely fascinating.
But overall the experience was not good at all. Many info boards, especially in the museum, were only in Italian. You get a map with a recommended path to visit all of the sights on the island in the museum. However, the path is not really marked so you will get lost. We walked back and forth to really see and read everything.
Unfortunately, many info boards were damaged by the sun and unreadable. The maintenance of this place is bad. Some fences were torn down or missing. Some paths were overgrown. Also the attractions are not being maintained. Many were overgrown with flowers, grass and bushes. But on the other hand, if you want to pick flowers, which a group of teenagers did, you found the right place.

Nice little island that will cost you 9€ to visit and about 5€ to get there. The museum has some impressive pieces but is not particularly well presented. Walking around the island there are many signs that cannot be read and it feels like things have been somewhat abandoned.

The island of Mozia itself is breathtakingly beautiful, however expensive. The ferry there costs 9 Euros (they leave every 30mins), and the entry to the island is another 5 EUR. You can easily walk around the island within an hour, and there is a small coffee shop as well for your coffee and sandwich needs. I would recommend it if you enjoy scenic walks rather than exhausting hikes.

Very impressive ruins of Carthaginian city, still under excavation (there were thee groups of diggers there today). Very interesting g museum and lots if signs in English around the island explaining the ruins. The sacred lake area ( i think it was a Kothon?) especially good. City dates from 800s BC and was abandoned circa 260 BC (ish). So the ruins were not built over as in almost every other case. The 20 min ferry trip was nice too on a hit day!

We found this beach during the way from trapani to agrigento.
It is clean, friendly, with perfect sunbeds beige colors with small cusion and pockets
Price after 14:30 during working days in august 2023 was 25€ per two persons, But you can stay there as long as you want/need.
Toilet and shower are included. For shower you need 0.5€ coins but this is included in the payment for sunbeds.
Sea is really clean, long walking in the water with the hight till of the knees. Maybe 500m maybe more distance.
Time to time is possible see on the bottom the sea grass. But it is depend of the waves.
We really enjoyed stayed here. Nice price, well maintained beach and friendly staff.
Clean sea but this is done by nature.

Wines were very good. We appreciate all types of wine really, and left feeling like these wines perfectly represent easy drinking wines from Sicily with single varietal focus. The Motya Museum, located on the small island of Mozia near Sicily, displays an impressive array of Phoenician artifacts gathered by Joseph Giuseppe Whitaker. The museum is housed in a building created as a country house by Whitaker himself and includes a teaching room with models and illustrations detailing the history of the Phoenicians and their civilization.
Another of Sicily's hugely important historical sites, massively worth the boat trip and certainly worth spending the time to walk around the island.
The museum has featured on TV due to the importance of several of the finds on the island. One part that I particularly like is that to the north what looks like a causeway is actually the remains of a Phoenician Road.

There is even a little cafe serving drinks but not food.

The other option is a prefix menu but both parties must order it and sit lower tier. If you have a small appetite like is thats too much food and wine. View was great

Entrees were delicious but rices were too salty.
Too hungry to return dish but could have done it. Manager for feedback but did not offer any alternative. Next time will return food.

Slow, slow, slow. Nice food but don’t appreciate that it took almost 2.5 hours to receive a cold salad starter and a grilled fish main, that’s only 1 thing that needed to be cooked. It took 40 mins to receive wine. 4 tables seated after me all received menus and food and drinks before I had even been asked for my order. Everyone received bread baskets yet I didn’t receive any bread, oil, salt or pepper yet they put coperto on the bill. Not impressed.

If you are an Italian then you are good to go, food is fine, big portions. If you are not Italian and you don’t speak Italian at all, then you will be omitted, you will wait for food at least an hour (if there are other Italian guests) and you will suffer to order anything because the menu is only in Italian and there are basically no English speaking waiters - apart from 1 guy who knew at least something (at least during our visit). Not even the managers know a word in English. So for foreigners - just don’t.

Nice location with view on the sea, good food at reasonable price. The stake, mixed vegetables and spaghetti were delicious and waiting time about 20 minutes.
The Catholic Church of Saint Thomas the Apostle in Canterbury is a beautiful, ornate church with intricate frescos. It is frequented by tourists but there are no restrictions to enter or be questioned. The atmosphere is peaceful and lovely, perfect for contemplation.
Beautiful without being too ornate.
Not many tourists when I was there. Lovely to go and just sit for a while and contemplate bigger things.

Intricate, beautiful, and very typical Sicilian frescos inside. With a visit if you're in Mazara.

Visited last month, arrived around noon, the church was closed. Spoke to locals and they said it should re-open at 4.30pm. Since virtually nothing in Marsala is open in the afternoon, we weren't going to wait till 4.30pm to see the church. Very disappointing since no mention of the hours are made on the website or on Google Maps.

Alagna Vini is a winery that was founded in the late 1940s and has been open to the public for 70 years. It is very traditional, with visits available only upon prior reservation. The winery grows grapes such as Zibibbo, Grillo, Catarratto and Damaschino which are used to make Marsala wine.
We visited Alagna Vini upon recommendation and we really enjoyed the experience. We received a guided tour of the whole premises by the son. The underground canteen and the story of its creation was impressive. We tasted very sophisticated and subtle Vergine Marsala and loved the different liquor wines they have, specially the almond one. The whole team was very welcoming and generous. If you want to visit an authentic family wine production, this is the place! Wines are excellent and fair value.

Great little 4 generation winery in Sicily. Our tour guide was excellent and the wine and food tasting went above and beyond. We would definitely visit again!

Perfect place if you want to discover historical wine of Marsala!!
We were there with a group of 5 and got our private trip through the whole winery, production process and tasting and the end. For the price of 10 EUR we've got a chance to try 16 wines (with food pairing), most of them Marsala, so if you've never tried it and want to this is the perfect place.
The staff working there speaks fluent English and explains everything, from the production details to the tasting and food pairing! They've been very nice and welcoming!
If you are in Marsala you can't miss that spot ;)

Great wine and marsala tasting experience supported by delicious sicilian snacks and pastries. Very nice owners explain everything about the products and answer every question you might have. We had a lovely time and learned a lot about the products, highly recommend if you are in the area.

Really nice wine tasting, we tried many wines, paired with local Sicilian snacks that were also very tasty! A relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, and the guide was nice and knowledgeable. Much recommended! The place is easy to find, and it was very convenient to book by just writing to them here via Google message. Super affordable experience.

I had a wonderful morning at Alagna. I was able to taste 8 different wines, all beautifully paired with local delicacies. The tour is very good value (at other wineries you taste only 3 wines) and the guide was extremely friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. Highly recommended.

We had a 45 minute tour of the wine making facility and tufo cellar in the basement, followed by an excellent tasting of about 12 wines accompanied by local snacks. Really loved the oiled bread with herbs, the goat cheese, and orange blossom honey. Our guide, Sylvia took great care of us and also kept our young daughter entertained while we did the tasting. I particularly liked the vermouth, wine with almond aroma, and grape must. The moscato paired well with the dried grapes, and the wine with almond aroma paired well with the almond biscuits. 😋

Fantastic tasting experience. You get to taste more than 10 wine types and typical food starters. We were guided by son of owner. We met owner, all of people are really nice. There is wine shop where you can buy selection of wines in Good prices.
My favorite was Moscato and Marsala Superiore Dolce.
Would be nice if the tour would have some more visual guide about wine making process.

Extremely accommodating staff and owner for having us during low season. We were the only guests for wine tasting. Silvia was wonderful, she explained to us about Sicilian wines and pairing in detail. Taught us new things about Sicilian culture, wine and food. Generous pairings for €20 per pax. We left with a few bottles of topnotch produce. Their Vermouth rosso worth a mention, absolutely delicious. High recommended when in Marsala!

If you are in Marsala do take some time to stop by this winery. They make 22 different wines within the region. Amazing history, very knowledgeable and great tasting wine. Highly recommend!
Lido Playa Blanca is a really pacefull and welcoming place on the beach. It feels immediately like one of the family and good food, good people and service make it an ideal spot for private party, dinner or lunch with friends and family. While it can always be improved in areas such as presentation, food is fresh and flavoursome.
Good seafood. They are doing a good job here. The platters are big and tasty. Food is fresh

That is, I had a shock, luckily I poured it into a transparent glass but it was truly an indescribable thing. I instinctively threw them in the garbage and now I can't find them anymore because they were small enough to make people feel sick

The Museum of Fine Arts houses art from the 16th century, when tapestries were at their peak of popularity. The magnificent works of art were donated to the Mother Church by Mons. Antonio Lombardo in 1589, and are now on display in a tiny museum. Tapestry fans should check out these eight pieces, which were made by the Brussels tapestry maker Cornelis Tons with an elegant intertwining of finely colored wool and silk threads.
Marvelous

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately I can only give one star because when I arrived in Marsala convinced it was open, as indicated on the site, I found the door locked and no sign to justify the impossibility of access. We ask for information at the souvenir shop opposite only to be told that it is temporarily closed... What can I say... Nothing.
I would appreciate there being some notice on the museum's website.
I therefore advise anyone who wants to venture out in this season to call in advance

Furthermore, they are located in spaces without air conditioning and, much more seriously, they can only be reached by climbing up quite steep stairs. Dismantling architectural barriers. Cost 4 euros.

Barriere architettoniche a sfare. Costo 4 euro.

(Translated by Google) Instead of ancient ruins, shards, figures... eight precious tapestries made of wool and silk from the royal workshop in Brussels are exhibited here. It is certainly possible to capture the entirety of the huge tapestries in a photo. Only the lighting could be better, as this would show the carpets and their details even better. And the museum is not very busy either. In July 2019 I was there alone.
