The State Castle and Chateau Český Krumlov display impressive Renaissance and Baroque architecture with well-preserved interiors featuring theater and art displays. The former is a 13th-century castle that underwent renovations in the 16th to 18th centuries under the care of the Rozmberk and Schwarzenberg families, while the latter is a striking Renaissance palace situated on a promontory above town.
This place is the highlight of the city. I do recommend you to visit. Here you will see the city bird eyes view. When you are up hill at the castle you will see the amazing houses with red roof as a background and the river surrounding the old town area. It was very good remarkable memory. Very beautiful town.

A beautiful little city and a magnificent castle complex. Truly fairytale medieval architecture. I made a day visit from Prague. Note: I was in low season, mid March so many tourist traps were closed… who cares? I spent a good number of hours walking in and around, the views from outside are breathtaking. Little bears live in the castle moat! Hopefully they are happy.

One of the best castles I have visited, views from the castle and of the castle from surrounding areas are amazing, Cesky Krumlov is a top attraction in Czech especially if you want to get away from the crowded city like Prague

Love the whole experience, the place is so beautiful that i cant described it, so im gonna be attaching some photos, but its definitely worth the time, u have to walk a lot uphill/downhill so my suggestion is to wear snickers, BUT its perfect for taking pictures so if u wanna cute pictures u should bring clothes so u can change. The place is magical, just like the movies beautiful gardens, houses inside the castle, they also have 2 bears that u can see there. The view at the bridge is great. Around the castle there are restaurants and places to buy some souvenirs and u also can do kayak there. Love everything about it.

One of the places I loved in Cesky Krumlov was the imposing castle. It feels like it surrounds the city and tries to protect it from all the bad things that could come.
I visited out of season, (in February) so I could not visit the interior, but even so I was very impressed. The season starts sometime in March from my understanding, and it lasts all summer, they have a breathing period and during the Christmas period it gets incredibly busy again.
Visiting outside season was good for me as I had the possibility to walk around and enjoy everything without having to wait in line☺️
Coming back to the castle, it has incredible views overlooking the city and the surroundings. The interior courtyard is well kept and you still have a lot of incredible architecture details and paintings to admire. There is a museum, theater, a souvenir shop, restaurant and a very nice coffee shop with a breathtaking view.
Definitely worth visiting!

Amazing place! Almost no people, I highly recommend visiting during late winter/early spring in order to avoid crowds.
There are brown bears, you can watch them playing, fighting or chasing pigeons (which are not afraid of the bears at all).

Beautiful little city! Definitely worth a visit or a day trip from Prague. The castle is free to to walk around but going in requires admission. Also there are no cars in this part of town so you’ll have to park outside the gates or take a bus in.

Wonderful historic castle. Even if you aren’t a history nerd, I’d still check it out for the views. (They say no photos allowed inside but I smuggled some for y’all anyway).
My favorite part was the giant golden carriage that was given to the royal family as a gift from the pope.

This entire town is gorgeous. The castle looks like it was in a fairy tale, and there are beautiful gardens and scenic spots surrounding the whole thing. I hope you get a chance to tour the castle’s interior because it is gorgeous. So grateful to see this beautiful city!

The main attraction of your walk above the city. The Castle is awesome, there is a muesum and Castle Tower, but the views are much better at higher viewpoints at the castle. I usually start at the Garden above the castle and then work my way down, and there is free parking along the Garden. #SeeTheWorld @ChuckDiesal

All I can say is this place is truly from a fairy tale. It is absolutely beautiful!! If you visit make sure to walk along the river as you get awesome angles of the castle and town!! Incredible place to visit and worth the trip if you are in Prague. The views from the Castle are stunning!
Lousy note: Seeing the bear caged in such a small environment is horrible. Please do something about it the condition of the area is poor. (December 2022)

Very nice castle where you can walk around for free or take one of several guided tours. Route 1 will show you the more fancy rooms, as well as the gilded coach and the Masquerade Hall. It lasts about an hour, some are available in English, costs about $10. Toilets are in one of the castle courtyards, clean, cost 20Kč. The bears in the moat have historical ties to the last Rosenberg rulers who used to demonstrate their relationship to a noble Italian family of Orsini (which means a bear).

You can spend some hours there even without visiting the castle itself. You have a wonderful view over Krumlov. Best time recommended late afternoon when the light comes from the side and puts the city in a very nice gloom.

Absolute geogeous town, so dreamy, with all the fairy tale elements. Castle, mountain, lake, curvy streets, I really can see why people say this is the movie beautiful town in Czech Republic and top ranked in Europe. When we visited, there was a rain and after the rain, we see the rainbow which falls right on the tower. You can't get more dreamy than that!!

Beautiful castle; Perfect place to visit when it’s sunny (but not too hot) and took us around 2 hours to finish the whole museum & tower tour. There are some good viewpoints to click amazing pictures!
The Český Krumlov Castle Tower features a high-rise structure built in the Renaissance style, complete with an extensive staircase that leads to an elevated observation platform. This platform offers panoramic views of the surrounding town and the winding Vltava River. The tower's design reflects traditional architectural styles from centuries past and is sure to impress visitors with its grandeur and historical significance. The observation deck provides a unique opportunity for sightseeing enthusiasts to take in breathtaking scenery while learning about the castle's history.
This was the last of the pieces we had to see of Český Krumlov castle. The Tower was worth the wait. We like to do a piece every time we visit and then go into town. The tower has its own castle and museum and the view from the top can't be beat. I highly highly recommend this to you.

It is a very worth ticket. Climb the stairs and see the inside of the tower as much as the city from a different angle.
The tower is partly Gothic and partly Renaissance, as is evident from the tower external appearance. The tower as well as the castle is a segment of a structure dating from the first half of the 13th century. The oldest part of it is the groundfloor and first floor. The origin of the second floor is around the 14th century, while the third floor is part of the Renaissance belfry.

Český Krumlov is the second most visited city in Czech Republic (first obviously is Prague). This little town is amazing and it's kind of hidden treasure. Something you must visit and walk the street to discover buildings, shops, restaurants and more. City is not as crowded as Prague, so you can feel city atmosphere and slow down during walk. The final attraction of city walk is castel with small museum and tower. Český Krumlov is a remarkable place to visit.

We read other reviews and visited because it was a museum not to be missed if in Cesky Krumlov. I am so glad we did. It was very interesting. It is very well presented and really does give an insight into photography. Having paid at the first house and collecting a headset in our language, we entered the main house. Each room was numbered, and selecting that number on the headset gave you an account of what was in the room. One of the rooms had a lot of artefacts and you could sit and watch a film, again in your own language by selection. We thoroughly enjoyed the house and gardens and glad we got to explore this house.

A very interesting place in Český Krumlov that you should visit is the beautifully reconstructed museum of a famous Czech photographer located in his house and studio. You'll explore fascinating original spaces from the garden to the attic, where original equipment, cameras, and all accessories are exhibited, including a functional darkroom where you can try developing a real photograph in a traditional way. The staff is friendly and helpful. I highly recommend it and also thank you for the great experience here.

When visiting the museum you get an audio guide which helps you get a good glimpse into a different time ~100 years, the work intensive photographing process and the life of a family. Food for thought and a wonderful house. Cannot recommend the Krumlov Card highly enough if you stay in the city for several days; this interesting museum is included and worth visiting.
With regards to the photo studio session in historical dress, my Mum and I did that as well and pre-booked a timeslot via email. The photographing team put in a lot of effort, were competent and the dresses and accessories were lovely. The only downside was that we're awkward around the camera (not photogenic) and the abrupt manners of the photographer and somewhat of a language barrier did nothing to help us feel at ease or natural, which shows in the photos. The 1 hour appointment went by quick. Still, 2 photo copies are good and 2 photo copies of different arrangement are okay for final price of 130€/ 3000 CZK

The church was built in the 14th century, and has undergone many renovations and additions over the centuries. Today, it is a stunning example of Gothic architecture, with intricate stone carvings and beautiful stained glass windows.
One of the most striking features of the church is the frescoes that adorn the walls and ceiling. These frescoes are some of the best-preserved examples of medieval art in the Czech Republic, and are a must-see for anyone visiting the church.
The church also houses several pieces of religious art and artifacts, including a wooden statue of St. Vitus that dates back to the 14th century. Additionally, the church has a beautiful organ that is still in use today.

Pleasant staff, some beautiful artworks (Tets Ohnari), but the individual expositions lack both: high-level context and detailed descriptions and all in all how it all relates together. Very often you do not know what you are really looking at or what that part of exhibit is trying to show - e.g. you are looking at a photo of Český Krumlov by Seidel, but the description is about Schiele.
My wife who studied art was completely disappointed by the Schiele part of the gallery saying that there were too few originals and even the copies weren't good - e.g. some of his famous work displayed as a copy changed from color to black and white.

The theater company is renowned for its creative outdoor productions, with a unique revolving auditorium situated in the midst of a picturesque garden between nature and a chateau de plaisir. By rotating the stage, seamless transitions are created from scenes depicting peasants to those set in court. Recently, an update was made to the seating arrangement and curtains were introduced around the auditorium. However, as of Spring 2022, these curtains have been removed to restore the typical atmosphere of summer theater.

The venue is located in the landscaped garden between 'nature' and a chateau de plaisir.
By rotating/panning the scene can change from "peasants to court" etc. in a smooth transition.
There was an overhaul of the seating of course but also a 'cage' of curtains around the auditorium has been built.
I'm not sure if it's meant to be permanent but for me it'be a loss of atmosphere typical for summer theater ...

Dracula at the revolving auditorium was seriously impressive. Worth the daily check if any leftover tickets had become available. The acting, pacing and scenery were top-class. The rotating seating is used cleverly as a storytelling medium. This became the unexpected highlighted of our 5 days in Krumlov.
The performance is in Czech, but subtitles in English and German are available via tablets which are offered on the way in (free but a 500CZK/20EUR deposit is required). The subtitles are abridged and paraphrased versions of the Czech script so you can follow the plot with a minimum amount of reading and looking away from the action.

Always a good place to spend an hour and buy iconic Czech treasures like Kovap clockwork toys.
The Moldavite Museum is a small yet vibrant museum that showcases interactive exhibits on moldavite, a precious stone formed from a meteorite. Visitors can also browse through the gift shop filled with beautiful pieces. This museum is perfect for those interested in science and provides well-written, contemporary displays explaining how gemstones were created by meteor landings and scattered across Southwestern Czech Republic. Overall, it's an excellent destination to learn about this fascinating subject matter.
Absolutely beautiful museum, ive never seen so many moldavite pieces! There are a few shops in town too but prefer purchasing from the museum. They also give you a certificate of authenticity!

We visited the Moldavite Museum a few times whilst we was in Cesky Krumlov. It is what attracted us to this city in the first place as many years ago we travelled from Prague down to Cesky Krumlov to see if they had any moldavite. My Husband has a keen interest in the stone and he was thrilled when we happen to stumble across the Moldavite Museum. He had no idea that there was such a museum. We booked two weeks in Cesky Krumlov back in December 2019 and we have only just been able to fulfil our holiday in July 2023. The museum is a fascinating place and you can buy pieces of moldavite in the stone form or jewellery from the shop. The museum shows you how moldavite came about and has lots of great specimens.

I only went because admission was included in staying at the hotel upstairs. It’s a very small museum with surprisingly well done audio visual displays and a movie. You can probably be done in 20 min or less. Moldavite is a type of “gem” created 50 million years ago when a meteorite struck the Bohemia region. There are interesting Moldavite jewelry and gifts you can buy at the gift shop/hotel reception which I think is the main point of this establishment.

I’m confused for anyone who would give less than 5 stars! This museum is small however FULL OF ENERGY! If you’re truly curious and interested about moldavite, you’ll love it here! Thank you Tereza for looking after us, the gift shop is full of stunning pieces!

In my opinion if you are watching this museum, you'll see it in 4 parts:
-Film
-Room 2
-moldavite stone room
-Crush room
(I named them like that)
Film -> in many languages (also English), my favourite part
Room 2 -> It's only okey
Moldavite stone room -> that room looks good
Crush room -> meteorite symulator

Interesting and not too big, so it doesn't get boring. There museum is quite interactive and they offer a 12 minute documentary that you can watch (in Czech, although they may have it in other languages too)

Though small it was surprisingly informative and fun.
My girlfriend is a geologist and told me I had to visit. And to my surprise, I really enjoyed it. It was very interesting to learn about meteorites and Moldavite! You should go there as well!

So cool, definitely check it out if you're into science. Well-written, modern displays explaining how gemstones were created from a meteor landing and shot all over SW Czech Republic.

Calming park within easy reach of the tourist core of Krumlov. There is one small jetty intended to give swimmers access to the river, but it's also a great place to sit with your feet in the water and watch the passing kayakers. You'll find it at the southern boundary of the park, a few meters from the public toilets.

My kids love the swings. There is a lot of green and flowers, you can also walk by the river where there people are rafting . There is also some gym equipment for adults. There are very big old trees too.

Lovely little park, to relax after a stroll at the caste and narrow streets....we visited during October last year (fall season), and the entire park was turned yellow and gold....

Lovely walk around area next to the castle of Cesky Krumlov. Views around the town from high altitude are fantastic. It may be a little too many walking up and down for the children if they are small but it's worth it. Perfect in winter time and I guess in summer :-)

Nám. Svornosti is a beautiful square in an old town, characterized by charming pastel-colored buildings and outdoor cafes where people can enjoy meals and drinks. The square also features the Plague Column, an impressive structure that adds to its unique charm. The plaza has been cobbled, giving it a vintage feel that transports visitors back in time. Despite being an old town square, Nám.
The Regional Museum in Czech Krumlov is a heritage museum located in a former school. It showcases collections and exhibits that trace the history of the region and local area. It's one of the top regional museums in Southern Bohemia, offering an informative experience for visitors. The museum has descriptions available in Czech, English, and German languages for easy understanding. The staff is friendly and welcoming, making it worth a visit while only costing 1 for students with an ISIC card.
Lovely small museum that is a must visit with the Krumlov Card. We liked the top floor with the oldest artifacts & the ceramic model of the town the most. But the traditional dresses of the temporary exhibition were eye opening, too.

Fantastic museum, extremely informative, with information in Czech, English and German.

Lots of detail and information, could be laid out a little better though, with a clear path through instead of having it all open to wander around. Most things have English text, although not in as much detail as the Czech text.
Jason Buck — Google review
One of the best regional museums in Southern Bohemia, and not crowded with the hordes of tourists you see on all other hotspots of Krumlov. Take 2-3 hours of time and enjoy!
Czech language skills are for sure benefits your experience, not all descriptions are translated.

Very interesting experience.
Could not find any mention of the town's Jewish population which was disappointing but there was an honest appraisal of the banishment of the German population. This was the first honest mention of Benes decrees I have come across in Czechia.

Small but very complete museum exhibiting works of local artists (we saw Martin Sital & Marie Sitalova's one which was amazing) as well as the history of this area from pre-historical ages up to today. The part about the war time was particularly eye-opening.
