(Translated by Google) You know that trip you regret? It's this one.
I left São Paulo, the capital, and went to the city of Amparo, today - 11.05.2024. Easy route.
I had very high expectations, as I was in the Atacama Desert and saw, with the naked eye, a stunning sky at night, full of hundreds of stars, including "stardust". Magnificent.
However, at this Amparo Astronomical Center I hoped, with the help of the telescopes, to have a really privileged view, clear, magnified, sharp. But all I saw were "pinpoints of light" in the telescopes. I'm not exaggerating. It was just that.
Telescopes have a 1cm diameter lens, which is tiny, much smaller than a watch lens, for example. You have to try hard to see. Terrible!
If I had known telescopes were like this, I would never have considered going.
Furthermore, there are several people in the group, and you don't spend much time at the telescopes, and in fact, you don't even need to, as little can be seen.
As it is an Astronomical Center, I was actually expecting a great immersion, even if it was short-lived. But, unfortunately, it was nothing like that.
In the second part of the visit, they directed us to the planetarium. Then I was sure that the ride, in addition to frustrating me, also started to bother me. The content shown was almost juvenile in nature, with a boring approach for adults. They mention which planets make up the Solar system, zodiac signs and that's it. The quality of the images also left a lot to be desired.
Anyway, the visit was extremely disappointing for me, as I expected much more than mere specks of light in a telescope.
The staff are attentive and answer questions.
For me, watching NASA documentaries on TV, or even recent Netflix productions on the subject, was infinitely more enriching than going to the Amparo Astronomical Center.
