The Stone Trough Inn is highly praised for its beautiful location, excellent service, and delicious food. Reviewers highlight the stunning views from the conservatory, the quality and presentation of dishes like plaice and beef pot pie, as well as the friendly staff who go above and beyond to make guests feel welcome. The venue's flexibility in accommodating events like weddings with exceptional service stands out, along with its dog-friendly atmosphere and cozy setting by a crackling fire.
This is a beautiful little pub in a wonderful setting, the staff are helpful and very friendly. The food is fantastic, well presented and reasonable in price considering the location and quality of the food. A pint of beer will set you back around five pounds and the average of a plate will set you back fifteen pounds a main. The beef and bone marrow pie is higher in price, at twenty pounds, but I am sure it would have been worth every penny. All in all it's a worthwhile stop, especially if driving long distance through the countryside.
I enjoyed a lovely lunch here. I had the plaice which was delicately cooked.
Booking a table is easy using the website and worth doing as it did seem to be filling up quite a bit with visitors including those enjoying the outdoors in the area (walkers and cyclists).
There is a very large car park.
I was seated in the conservatory which looks to be a relatively recent addition and, due to planning, can only be accessed internally. It was heated which was of benefit today and it had decent views across the Derwent Valley.
Went for the Christmas menu over the weekend and the food was amazing, can’t fault it and such good value for money! Cosy atmosphere and staff were very attentive and welcoming. Would definitely recommend!
I've visited here several times over the years but our latest visit (since the arrival of new management!) was special. My husband and I took our little dog out for a walk on Boxing Day and wanted to follow it up with a few quiet drinks at the pub.
Alex and Shannon were only too happy to welcome us and the atmosphere was lovely, with locals and off-duty members of staff all chatting and supping together. The pub was decorated so festively and it looked great.
They allow dogs and our young pup was fussed and treated like a queen. (The pub dog Tweed is a very good boy.) We passed several very happy hours relaxing in the bar and are eager to return to try out the food menu!
Come here if you like good old-fashioned pubs with a crackling fire, friendly staff and what looks like a delicious new menu. You'll get a warm welcome!
Booked for lunch after a stroll along the river bank - it was quite busy - staff very polite and friendly just had to wait for a few minutes for our table as we were early. Quite a varied menu at lunchtime with the main menu also available. Two of our party had sandwich and two had the steak pie - the pies were delicious and proper pies and packed with steak. My friends said the sandwiches were delicious and looked great.
