La Gruta offers a unique dining experience inside a cave, creating a magical and historical ambiance. Reviewers praise the delicious traditional Mexican food, including chicken mole and green mole, homemade corn tortillas, and guava ice cream. The atmosphere is highlighted as exceptional with flickering candlelight and rich history. While some mention slow service or average food quality for the price, most visitors appreciate the extraordinary setting and friendly staff.
Walking to this place from the pyramids was easy. Google Maps gave detailed directions. The guacamole is a must order. Holy guacamole that was the best I've ever had. The goat was just okay. The service was exceptional. The atmosphere was jaw dropping. I mean you're in a cave! We came during the summer in June, but the place was cool.
Such a cool experience to eat in a cave! I have a lot to say but the overall thing is that the food is great. Be warned, there are quite a few bees in the morning so if you order sweet items (or near someone with sweet items), they’ll be flying by you. The coffee was great and some of the best that I’ve had! The bread was also good but we got charged a different amount then we thought when they ran out of the bread we originally wanted. Our waiter was super nice and told us the history of the place. Would love to come back and do it again!
Great for Carnivores, not so good for veggies and vegans - only one main choice which for committed veggies is not a choice at all. For meat eaters there is plenty of choice including more unusual options such as caterpillars or grasshoppers. Situated inside a cave it's definitely atmospheric and the staff were fast and friendly. Recommended.
This place offers good service and prepared food. While the spacing between tables is narrow, it’s understandable given the cave-like characteristics and unique atmosphere. The servers were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Honestly, I didn’t have high expectations after reading many reviews mentioning the food being average. The nacho chips were warm and tasty, and serving the tortillas in a pouch kept them hot, which was great. The meat in the fajitas wasn’t heavily seasoned but was decent. The side rice was flavorful, and the avocado was fresh. The drinks were probably the highlight; the post-meal ritual of burning incense in the cave to leave behind any bad luck was amusing. Overall, it’s a good place for a fun experience rather than exceptional food.
Really nice vibe because you’re in a cave.
Had some okay sopes (fried corn cakes) and bean soup. Service is sort of slow, though that’s okay because you’re in a cave.
Prices are sky high, which is ironic because you’re underground in a cave.
All in all, not a bad place to eat and is sort of worth it because you’re in a cave.
