Kosice

Košice is a city in eastern Slovakia, close to the Hungarian border. Its origins go back to the medieval period, and the central Lower Gate archaeological complex preserves fortifications from the 13th century. Hlavné námestie, the main square, is home to 2 Gothic churches: the huge St. Elisabeth Cathedral and the 14th-century St. Michael Chapel. Nearby, St. Urban’s Tower contains a museum of wax figurines.

Definitely the standout landmark in Kosice, one of the most beautiful cathedrals in Europe. Beautiful during the day and at night. Free to visit the interior, and 3 Euro to climb the tower to get the best view of the town. Interesting fact is this and the other churches in Kosice were all connected via underground tunnels/catacombs - which you can walk through also.

Main church of Košice. It's world eastern-most Gothic church. According to legend there is one stone which could cause whole cathedral to collapse once removed from the wall. Cathedral went through reconstruction in recent years. For few Euro you can visit tower (entrance from tower's outside door). This is definitely worth of visit since you have great view on historical city center from above.

Good site for a quick visit (around 30min. counting the tower), unless you're a devout Catholic. Then, time is of no importance. The biggest plus is that the tower is reportedly the highest place in Košice, so you get a nice view from the top. We went up the tower with our three children, but I would not advise it for children under 6-7 (except if you want to do a quick workout, or learn patience and endurance). The remainder of the church is child-friendly and some zones are handicap accessible. You should, however, be mindful of the people praying in the pews.

It is definitively a number one must see when visiting Košice. Question is, which tickets are worth of buying, as this cathedral offers various combination. There are no guided tours available at weekends, so we bought whole cathedral (5 eur) plus entry to neighboring chappel of st. Michael. Included crypts in cathedral are nothing special, but access to two towers is definitely worth of buying whole package tour/ticket.

The Cathedral of Saint Elizabeth is a beautiful church well worth visiting. It is a wonderful example of high gothic architecture with some very nice altars, including the spectacular central one. You can go up the rather unique double helix stairs and take in the view from the balcony. You can also go down into the crypt and climb the tower. It is located in a pretty garden in the middle of the main road.

A stunning church to visit. There is no entry fee, but they do charge you 2€ to take photos. Beautiful architecture, organ, stained glass windows and many alters and prayer rooms to see and experience. Anyone is allowed to sit and pray or meditate or just have a rest inside. You can also buy a brochure about the church in english for 1€ at the little shop inside the church. I found this very handy when walking around inside and out, with much information and history of the church outlined. On the left of the church entry, is the entry to the church tower. Do yourself a favour and pay the 2€ to go up - totally worth the money and effort! The view for the top is fantastic! A great was to see Košice!

If you want to take your kids or your grandparents out, hear some instrumental music, sit and relax, wath nature, breathe some fresh air, the Singing Fountain is the right place. Located in downtown Kosice, it is one of the favourite attractions of the city. The fountain is synchronized with the music and it seems that the water is singing. On late hours there is a plus: the Fountain is illuminated.

Beautiful park and fountain that’s super calming to sit and just watch. Music plays along with it, as it is the singing fountain, which makes it a wonderful experience. Nice place to sit and just enjoy the day, especially when there is a slight breeze. It’s a must see, when you come to the city. If you are a geocacher there is a fun geocache here too.

Very nice zoo to go to. A loď of animals to see. There is also Dino park as part of the Zoo. You will have to pay extra to go in. There is possibility to go to see 3D movie about experience of baby dinosaur traveling in "dino world". My experience of Košice Zoo were very pleasant and positive.

The Zoo itself is very big and you will do a lot of walking and conquer some small hills as the pavilions for various animals are not so close. You will find all the main animals, that your kids are looking for. I would add but more signs on where the animals are exactly located. The environment is very nice and feels like being in the forest. Recommending checking when they feed the animals with commentary as this is very nice to see and you get interesting information. The Zoo is quite remote from the Košice. Don't rely on the navigation as it can take you through not very much maintained roads, although appearing the shortest way.

This Zoo is sooo much fun to go to. There are a lot of animal species and a lot of cafes. Next to it it’s DinoPark. There is a 3d cinema there (the movie lasts for like 12 minutes). Soo much fun!

Parking 3EUR. 3-5 min walking distance to main entry gate where you also buy the ticket. Common entrance for zoo and dino park. We paid 10EUR/adult for dino park but to get to dino park you walk through the whole zoo park. Very well planned, it stretches across many ha and offers a proper space for some animals. You keep walking like theough a park on aleys, sometimes concrete sometimes cubic stone pavement. Friendly with strollers.

It's amazing place. 😊 The environment is absolutely huge and georgeos, all of the animals truly happy here. There are limited parking places, so when it's busy you need to park near the road approx 1 km far from the entrance, but in nice weather this is just a pleasure walking. You can buy an adult ticket for 10€ / £8 (includong the Dino Park also), so it's a bargain price nowadays. All it all, we're 100% satishfied with everythig, definitely we'll get back soon! 😎

Good zoo. Very big territory, where you will spent around 2 hours or more. Maybe not very high variety of animals, but their enclosures are big, well-organized and close to natural. There is a time-table of feeding of animals, so you can enjoy watching the process. You can fing several fast-food cafes at the territory of the zoo. On holidays the zoo is overcrowded by local people.

Parking is in front of the entrance, it was 2 euros for a day. Entrance tickets can be paid by card. There were several coffee and snack automats, and buffets with hot meal, draft beer and Kofola. At most of them, you can pay by card as well.

A very beautiful monument built in old Town kosice, second largest city in Slovak republic. The column is situated in a small park and commemorates the gratitude to Mary for an end to the plague epidemic from 1709 and 1710. It was erected at the place of medieval gallows at Fő utca (Main Street, now called Hlavná ulica) in 1723. Local legend holds that the relics of Saint Valentine are hidden beneath the structure.

If you want to know more about Kosice's history this stop is a must. Miklus Prison shows part of Slovakia history from the years 1200 and the following centuries. You can see weapons, cells, the kitchen and more in three different levels, including a subterranean one, all of this with the help of an audio guide in different languages and introductory video.

Went to door of prison which was closed, so asked at the ticket office in executioners bastion and was told we could buy tickets there and she would let us in. So we did that, she let us in and put on a video for us to watch and explained how to use audio guides and then left us to our own devices so we wandered around the museum by ourselves. The museum is very interesting and has lots of interesting things to look at, I would recommend going. Cost is 4 euros for an adult.

It's ok, the signs telling you what the exhibits are need to be in multi language, so all can understand. The audio guide needs to be in some kind of order. The ticketing needs to explain what you get for each price. I got the ticket that includes everything but nothing says once you've done this area got to here. All very disjointed would have been a lot better with better direction

Very cool museum. Introduction video at the beginning of the prison tour in multiple languages. Additionally, they provided a hand held voice guide machine for exhibits. Price is very reasonable for the tour. I went with my two boys and only played 3 euros total. Very friendly staff at the booking office. To attend museum tour, we had to go through the corridor next to the church and pay in booking office. I am not sure if it is always like this, but it was for us.
