Beautiful square, with shops and some cafes around the outer part. The building itself is very photogenic and definitely worth walking by the take a picture.

The Lüneburg Town Hall is an example of medieval and early modern architecture in northern Germany and is also the largest medieval town hall in this region. It's fortunate that the Lüneburg Town Hall didn't have to suffer any war damage! It's truly beautiful to behold! 🤩

If you walk from the train station, it will take you about 20 minutes to reach the Town Hall. Quite beautiful, there is an information office for tourists where you can buy souvenirs and get a map of the town.

Unlike many other North German Town Halls which are mostly built in Gothic style in traditional red brick, this one in a charming town of Luneburg differs. It's built in a beautiful Baroque style, occupying the central Market square. Plenty of cafes around to relax and enjoy the atmosphere

Lüneburg's town hall is a storyteller, administrative seat, landmark and gem all in one. With its 259 rooms, it is one of the most outstanding architectural monuments in northern Germany and the largest medieval town hall in the north. The construction of our town hall began around 1230 and was repeatedly rebuilt and expanded over the centuries. Thanks to its 700-year building history, traces from various epochs have been left throughout the town hall: Gothic and Renaissance court arbor, prince's hall, old archive, chancellery and mayor's chamber. Masterful woodwork adorns the large council chamber, which is one of the largest Renaissance halls in Germany. The Hall of Homage and the market facade date from the Baroque period. In the tower there is a clockwork with chimes made of Meissen porcelain. The town hall is still actively used as the seat of the administration of the city of Lüneburg. However, the most beautiful rooms are open for you to visit as part of a guided tour.

If you come Lüneburg, then make sure to take the guided tour of the City Hall. The city hall is supposed to be one of the most beautiful city halls in Germany, which was as the city itself was luckily was not destroyed during the war. If you come on a Saturday, you cN combine the visit of the market right outside the city hall, with a guided tour. This is a medieval port ramp used for (un)loading salt and other products from boats. It's set in the very center, but more we liked the relaxed vibe of the area. There're several bars and restaurants around with outdoor seating, and people sit on the bridge with their drinks enjoying the beautiful scenery around

Great atmosphere, stunning environment, and nice restaurants to eat or just have a beer are all must-sees if you're in Lueneburg. Today (June 24, 2023), we went on a weekend trip. Lunenburg) is a charming and historic town on the Ilmenau River, bordered by the Lüneburg Heath in the North German state of Lower Saxony. The town is located about 50 kilometers southeast of Hamburg and is the capital of the district of Lüneburg, with a population of approximately 75,000 (2018). So very beautiful, do visit. And lot of Restaurant are also there.

You would basically have to try avoid seeing this if you’re in Lüneburg, but the crane itself is pretty cool and the area around it is the perfect into to Lüneburg. People watch and look at history for a few minutes :)

A short trip to Lüneburg is the natural consequence after visiting Lübeck. The salt that made Lübeck rich actually came from Lüneburg! At the former harbor in the water district (Wasserviertel), you'll find this "Old Crane," a (secret) symbol of Lüneburg. This is where the precious salt ("white gold") was shipped, bringing great wealth to the city during the time of the Hanseatic League. In the Middle Ages, the crane was an important tool for lifting heavy loads, especially salt bags, onto ships or onto land—thus allowing the salt to be transported further to Lübeck through the Stecknitz Canal. Two old ships can still be seen there. And there are plenty of lovely Cafés around the square - a true tourist magnet! 🤩

Considered to be Luneburg's landmark and rightly so! Located at a scenic location. I also found out that this town has the most pubs in Germany!

Surprisingly, I had a wonderful time touring the Salt Museum. They offer an audio tour in English for 1€, alternatively you can borrow a binder of translations of the exhibit for free. The space is much larger (and deeper) than expected and gives you a thorough history of Lüneburg and its role in the middle ages. Loved the maps and models of the original town layout and interactive models of the saltworks. As a solo traveling 30 yr old, I highly recommend it if you like history and salt :)

Salt salt and salt! Amazing small-ish museum. The audio-guide (in English and German) was only €1 and it was quite interesting. The museum shop had so much salt! Also, the posters of Lübeck was only 30 cents! There were also some cool postcards (6 for 50 cents). It was great!

Fascinating history very well presented. The use of the headphone guide is strongly recommended to get the full detail of the museum.

The experience overall was pretty nice. The history was pretty interesting, and I personally loved the fact that there are little fountains that let people taste the water like it was back in the day. The stuff was very friendly, but we got a little confused with the directions. We asked multiple times where the start was, and we never got a clear answer. Long story short, we started from the end, and we finished at the start. The ticket costs 8€ and I think it was 4€ plus if you want to have the little device that explains everything during the experience. It was pretty good for 1 time but not a must, in my opinion.

Grat place, very friendly staff. We've been the whole family, all of us took audioguides and we all enjoyed it, and learnt quite a lot. Very well organised, also for kids. Definitely worth a visit!

A hidden gem! Staff was super nice, and while a salt museum may sound boring it was super fun and accessible for guests of all ages. It is mostly in German, but it’s worth a visit for anyone! also great gift shop

This is a definite visit if you are in the area. Opportunity to relax and reflect in an old old historical building. They supply a good range of language guides -a donation can be given too.I normally hold Churches as cold however this building really ‘talked’to me -to calm down. I believe ‘this life’ is Heaven, we are all experts so we think! but we are all very lucky that we are a part of a Planet just the correct distance from a burning Planet that allows the very essence of life -atmosphere/water/temperature -someone might have had a hand in this ??!!

Nice church with a tower of a very interesting shape, located on Am Sande. Church tower can be seen from the nearby water tower observation deck.

Must come if you visit Limburg. There are hundreds shops around that you can buy souvenir , gifts or food . Come !

It is the oldest Lutheran church in Lüneburg, built during the XIV century. A good example of the brick architecture that is so widespread in Northern Germany. It can be reached after a 10 minute walk from the train station.

Lüneburg is such nice architectonic jewel! A medieval little town, very well preserved with thousand of little details to make a nice photo.

This place is worth exploring inside and outside and offers many discoveries. While you are here, enjoy the medieval surroundings. The church itself is open and invites to be visited, offers a quiet surrounding away from the hustle and bustle. This church and the town generally are absolutely worth to visit.
