We enjoyed our time here. It is worth a visit once. The entree fee is 5 EUR. You can spend as much time as you wish here. The place is not crowded at all. There is a hidden cell you can reach there if you use the concrete stairs. The employees are very friendly and I recommend this place.

Donegal Castle is very close to the town centre and was great for the rainy weather that day. It is indeed more than interesting – after passing the open part in front, visitors enter the building and find a toilet and rooms filled with information. Stairs lead up to another floor, where there is the restored dining area, and finally on top is another room telling of the history of the castle and the town.

I stopped in Donegal for lunch and visited Donegal Castle. The castle is definitely undergoing restoration. I took a guided tour with an OPW tour guide and she was absolutely amazing and she is the reason for the higher score. She explained the nine years war in such a dramatic fashion that I could have listened to her all day. I was literally on the edge of my seat. There are only a few rooms. There are some original parts like floors and ceilings left. You get a good idea of why the castle was designed its way. My favorite area was the fireplace, and again, the tour guide did an amazing job. I would definitely recommend stopping here and taking a guided tour.

Have visited many castles in cities around Europe and although this is small in comparison I found it more interesting than most. The O’Donnell’s were a powerhouse in the area. Red Hugh was the last. The castle was very interesting and in many respects a sad experience as Hugh O’Donnells last act was to burn it to the ground to prevent the English using it as a stronghold. It is well worth the 5 Euro entrance fee.

Loved the Donegal Castle. It was actually the first castle that we receive information in Greek, which we appreciated greatly. Small but well preserved. Christina our guide she was very knowledgeable. Totally recommend to visit

A small monument with a significant history. I really appreciated how well-maintained it is and the fact that at the front desk, they provided us with pamphlets detailing the history of the place, so we had a guide while walking within the castle walls. Inside, there's an exhibition with models that show how the castle has changed and evolved over time.

Very well kept, lovely place to visit, kids are given treasure hunt page! Which they loved finding the items, lots of history and information. Super friendly staff. Highly recommended 👌🏾

Me, my hubby and two children (aged 8 & 10) visited today (17th Aug) and it was just beautiful. The walkway is rocky and uneven so be mindful of this. So many artifacts and stunning pieces. Stairs are quite steep. I love history so it's been one of my favourite spots. Don't visit without stopping off. Entrance fees are: adults €5 Senior €4 Student £3 Family €13 Kids go free.

This is one of the best castles we have been to in Ireland. Nicely restored and the entrance fee is reasonable.

Nice lake, no fishing though with out a permit and license. Honestly not much to see or do unless you enjoy looking at scenary

We took the Lough Eske Nature Loop walk, recommended by our local hotel. It's approx 5.5km long along quiet roads with views over the Lough from time to time. One of the highlights was a large hand written sign covering a gate inviting international passers-by to take a seat and have a rest. The language's included were Icelandic, Ukrainian, Polish, French, Welsh and many more. Quite a random and quirky thing to find.

We found a short walk along a boardwalk which allowed us to reach an island on the lake.

Could not be more pleased with our stay here. Enchanting setting, lovely room. Were offered an upgrade and all the staff encountered were wonderful, knowledgeable and helpful. Enjoyed Cedars, the Gallery Bar as well as in room service.

Visited Ireland for a week and went to five castles with this being the best of the Best! Loved the atmosphere and freshness. Our room was spotless and had wonderful touches like free glass bottles of sparkling and still water and evening turndown service. You feel wonderfully pampered

A beautiful lake but not really accessible. You can't park easily, sit to eat somewhere, or spend time there. That said the lake is nice, but Glencar Lake is maybe better without those drawbacks, although more crowded

Lots to see and you can get a ride ( short) on a little train may not be suitable for younger children as they could find it a bit boring as lots of reading

Very friendly little museum. Staff will tell you many interesting stories about the narrow gauge railroads of Donegal. Models of some remarkable 'trains'. Well worth a visit!

Visited today ... Beautifully presented station house with lots of information about the good old days ! Must say we enjoyed the staff who gave us a tour of the venue his passion for the railway clearly evident ! Would definitely visit in the future and hopefully next time they will have track to compliment this brilliant venue for steam 😊

Great little museum for the big and the little. The staff is super friendly and helpful, they offer a ride on a move able Thomas the Engine which is great craic. Overall the museum is nice and cosy, offering a little bit of everything about the old Donegal Railway service. Great little stop on a trip to D'Gall!

Comprehensive, and fascinating museum of the long lost local rail network, stretching across Co Donegal. Super hand built models of local stations.

Really worth a visit, highly recommend it, staff very welcoming and Stephen in particular was very helpful and friendly. A great find especially for train enthusiasts and to find out about the Donegal railway network and hopefully bring some back to life again.

Had a wonderful tour of this place, followed by a video that showed how the railway looked in the 1950s. This was well worth a visit, and you can tell that the volunteers really care about the history and future of the town. They talked about potential future plans, and I agree that a scenic railway would be a beautiful addition and invaluable resource for the local community. I really hope they can get these plans off the ground!

A little gem. This is such a fabulous little find !!! The admission is €5/€4 or €13 for a family - bargain. There's a few interactive things for children, a 50 min video for adults, and old fashioned children's games to play. Little museum rooms to look at, a miniature gauge ride (only 100 yds forward then back). 3 or 4 old carriages, and the locomotive to stand in. All set in the old station house. It's small, but brilliant. And we were made so welcome.

This was such a cute little museum. They did a great job explaining the history of the railroad in the county. The kids loved this museum even more than expected. We covered the entire museum in about an hour but the kids could have stayed longer.

Great little museum. Staff were very friendly, knowledgeable about history, and went out of their way to show the kids a good time!

Spectacular views. We climbed it taking the 'easy route' with my 11 and 16 year old daughters so not too tough. We took our time and it took 2hrs to get up and 1hr 15mins to get back down. Pick a day with no cloud forecast.

Nice walk, a little challenging if the weather isn't on your side. I went up from the "Bridge of Tears." Excellent views from the top. There is another way up via the "Miner's Trail" I believe most of the youtube vids show that way.

A great hike with amazing views. You'll need a good head for heights if you take the Minors Path route. If you go up via the shrine it's a bit longer but good for beginner hikers. Bring extra layers as the weather can change in a heartbeat. Overall a great place to hike.

Better and more interesting than Mt Errigal. Follow the blue arrows all the way up.

Be considerably fit to climb the trail going up Muckish. Avoid climbing the trail on rainy Weather as the cliffs are made of loose soil and rocks.

Tough climb at times but well worth it

Absolutely amazing mountain with stunning views. Just do miners path and follow blue arrows, pretty easy to navigate. A lot of history is left on this mountain so it definitely worth going and exploring all of it ✌️🤟 - @arnygoesonadventure
