local hot spring spa, definitely worth a visit and experience with a view of the mountains and nature. it is one of the few interesting places in the area.. Info: it's a local Wellness, don't expect a hotel holiday inn but a great experience of the place 😂😉 Info two: at the entrance you pay an entrance fee of around 10-20 pen / the towel is included in the price, I can't confirm, I took mine from the hotel Info: there is a changing room for women and men separately, showers and free clothes storage, you get a key to your locker, everything is safe 🌞🏔️🌺😀

I thought those were awesome, I went twice! 20 soles for extranjeros. The walk is truly beautiful. Definitely check out the waterfall behind the hot springs. They just need to step up their game with the bathrooms.

These baths are not spa level that you get other places but they do the trick. They have warm and cold options and the price is extremely reasonable (20 soles). They get very busy at night and it is so cool to be there in the jungle after a long day at Machu Picchu. Don’t expect anything fancy and you will love it.

The waterfall is closed, not sure when it will be open, that is probably the best part of the hot pool. . About the hot springs, it is not a natural spring. The looks of the water was not really appealing. . It is 20 sol for tourists.

Rude people. Water is green. Been to a few hot springs and this just looks like heated pools. The walk up here is beautiful, with amazing views. Come for the viewing experience nit the Nasty waters.

The staff are very kind. The walk up is beautiful. The pools themselves leave much to be desired. Thankfully the lion head showers with hot fresh mineral water were amazing. The smell of the water from the lions heads and the wading pools is significantly different. I have been to many natural hot springs in my long life. These need help.

Very pleasing place. Just 20 soles to enter. To really appreciate it go early in the morning before the rush of groups start coming and the water have been cleared overnight. It has a waterfall included however when I asked during the rainy season up until end of march beginning of April they close this area as is it becomes dangerous as many rocks fall on the path. If you are at the gate and want to see the waterfall ask whether it is serada or apuerta. If serada than better luck during the dry season. But we really enjoyed the hot pools as they were clean and with less people until 11 am

Too loud, disco music playing and multicolor lights. Very disappointing. There are slots of one hour and half to enter. The earliest time to get in is 5am. You have to bring your towel cause is not available inside. There are some renting kiosks before getting there where you can rent one towel for 6 soles.

The baths ranged from 14 to 37 Celsius, but the baths were definitely nothing near then 30s as they felt very lukewarm rather than hot. The staff was friendly, and they had lockers to put ur stuff and even shelves near the baths to keep your towels and items you kept.

The beautiful plaza anchors the center of town with a fantastic backdrop of the Andes Mountain. Surrounded by restaurants and helps soak up the atmosphere.

Aguas Caliente is underrated. People just go there as gateway to Machu Picchu but this village is just so cool and relaxing. You can chill a d unwind here for a few days and enjoy it. I've only spent 2 nights as I had bought the ticket back already before getting there. If I could I would have spent at least 2 more days to absorb the local vibes

A really nice plaza with restaurant and snack areas all around. Clean. Full of tourists but considering this is where everyone comes back to after Machu Pichu it’s to be expected.

One of the best I have visited till now. The receptionists were really helpful and friendly. Great staff who knew how to serve the customer. The room was well equipped and the service was excellent. From the balcony, we could view the sea and feel the cool breeze. The location of our room was absolutely perfect.

Place where everyone gathers from train. You have everything on your hand. Beatiful place on earth. I recommend breakfast on mercado instead of overpriced restaurants.

Many choices of food, there are a lot of shops for tourists, if you need the train station you might get lost because they don't have signs, so you will have to ask around. Theres some stayed you can take pictures with.

The town center plaza. Their only third space aside from the wonderful nature they have surrounding the area.

The main square at Aguas Calientes. Has a good statue of Pachucutec. Many people here always, and many feed pigeons, which is quite a site. If you have time, this is great for hanging out and people watching, during the day or early morning. It gets cooler for my comfort in the evening.

Beautifully designed square in the center of Aguas Calientes with a statue of the Inca prince Manco Cápac. All around there are restaurants with more or less pushy staff.

You will not believe about how much the local cares and knows of their heritage. They ornate the entire plaza to represent their culture and heritage. Independent artists come together to flourish with their talents and to celebrate their history and to pass it on to make sure that everyone knows where they are into have them experience the same thrill of being somewhere so historically and beautifully preserved!

This square is small but quite beautiful. You will see a big statue of Inka King in the centre of the square. Right next to it is a small beautiful church "Parroquia Virgen del Carmen Church" which is open for visits. The square is surrounded by shops hotels and local eateries. Good place for photos with the huge statue.

A very touristic square. Not the best restaurants, not the best bars and just noise and many people and stray dogs.

I camped here the night before and after visiting Machu Picchu, a perfect place to relax in nature after my salkantay trek! Camping was only 10 soles and 50% discount to visit the gardens, which are really pretty and has a nice waterfall to swim in. Restaurant also has good food. Camping has a small outdoor kitchen with water and electricity. Overal a really nice experience! Slight downside, wifi didn't work great.

Perfect for a nice walk in a rain forest, to see a lot of plants and one or two animals like a hummingbird or a lot of butterflies.

Nice little forest walk. Easy to find. Just walk down from the area where you can take the bus for machu pichu. After you find a fork in the road with machu picchu letters. Take the right road and follow the railway track.

This place is unreal. So serene and beautiful. It was about a 45-60 minute walk from downtown Auguas Calientes and we spent almost two hours inside the park. So nice to slowly wander, learn, and explore. Would definitely go back again.

beautiful and tranquil spot. Hours walk along train tracks beside the river from the town, but well worth the effort. To be honest I preferred the scenery along the river to the tourist trap of MP.

To get here, you have to take a short hike that has no trail and just follow the railroad tracks (being extra careful to stay a safe distance away from trains). Once you get there, you have to register at a booth and pay 10 soles per person. Once through the gate, another short hike through a botanical garden to finally reach the waterfall. During your trip there, it offers great views of all the local flora, mountains and river. It was a fun activity to do the day after going to see Machu Picchu.

Unfortunately, this place no longer exists due to a landslide that occurred during the rainy season about 2 weeks ago and dragged a portion of the mountain, the waterfall, and its surroundings. It's such a shame, but that's nature.

If in the area, an ok area to do some shopping. But if you’re heading back to Cusco, it’s better to wait and shop there.

Cheapest and the most authentic. On the last floor of the market (the stairs are a bit hidden), a menu is generally 8 sol and 6 sol just a plate. Beer is 6 sol too. There is even a balcony to eat with a view. We hate to the one on the left of the balcony door and were very happy

Good prices at the different little restaurants. Great place to have tradition Peruvian food (not Inca food). Tastes great too!

Total tourist trap. A huge labyrinth of too many stalls selling largely the same mementos/trinkets, but at way higher prices than you can find elswhere (I looked at a chess set and it was more than twice the price being sold elsewhere.)

Rush there if you want a tasty, savoury and cheap meal surrounded by locals!

Food court on the second floor offers authentic food, generally 6 soles for a main dish or 8 for soup + dish. Delicious! So much better than all the tourist traps nearby.

Come here to eat local food and pay local prices!

This place is a butterfly garden and study laboratory. Even tho is small, the researchers do a really good job explaining how butterflies live and how they reproduce , also the have a frugal but well set laboratory where you can see in a microscope butterflies eggs etc. The room has some shelfs full of caterpillars and butterflies cocoons where researchers will explain to you the difference among them. Please skip the bad reviews that apparently are done by people who think Machupichu is Disneyland

Well worth a visit if you're staying in Aguas Calientes! It's a short walk from town and for around 20soles per person you get a tour of the facility with an interesting explanation about the life stages of a butterfly. They're doing great work trying to promote the growth of native host plants to support and protect different butterfly species.

Went with my teen and we had an amazing experience. 1800 species of butterflies in Peru. This sanctuary is carefully maintained and a lovely way to spend a day acclimating to the elevation.

Very cordial staff, which has reported in a 20-minute tour, in detail about the research and the projects. In addition, one gets butterflies in all designs presented. Highly recommended if there is some time. The entrance fee including English guide is 20 SOL.

Only 5 min walk from Aguas Calientes city, and this place is must visit. 20 soles only for a pleasure to see and learn something new. We been really impressed with enthusiasm of these people, only the best experience and impressions.

Beautiful surprise to come across such an awesome place! We learned so much about the local butterflies and got to see the different stages of development. Would absolutely recommend, worth the stop in. 20 soles per person and English or Spanish small tour.

Don't underestimate this humble but informative experience! Many reviews state its expensive and not much to see, but if you keep your priveleged minds open and understand what they are trying to do with their research here, its not only a bargain, but also a pretty cool experience. I learned a lot about the butterflies and got to see and handle many different species and really enjoyed it. I hope you do too!

The research they are conducting here is impressive. The short tour is educational. The lab and butterfly areas are both open to the public. Though the walk to/from downtown is dusty with frequent bus and van traffic from Machu Picchu, it is a nice little segue from downtown. Consider supporting this eco-conscious endeavor.

Absolutely worth the visit. Learned so much about the endangerment of the butterflies in Peru and what they’re working on to protect them.

So it’s a small butterfly conservatory and we paid 20 Pen each and the keeper gave us a very short guide from the reason for conservation to the life cycle and stages of a butterfly and some of the samples of pupae and larvae forming. To me the fee is mainly to aid in the conservation works and more than happy to contribute to the efforts.

The Mariposario of Machu Picchu was a great experience and tour. The tour was enjoyable and filled with information. Everything was explained in a very scientific manner as the Butterfly House also serves as a butterfly research and conservation facility. You will need to purchase a ticket for the tour. Ticket purchases can be made on site. We paid in Soles. One of the very few locations in Peru where we used cash.

Amazing! No visit of Machu Picchu would be complete without checking el mariposario!! Amazing service, knowledgeable staff, and you can tell they're passionate, without trying too hard. Also, orchids!!

My visit to Mariposario de Machupicchu left much to be desired, earning it a two-star rating. Despite the potential for a captivating experience, the butterfly sanctuary was disappointingly lacking in several aspects. Firstly, the facility appeared poorly maintained, with signs of neglect evident throughout. The lack of upkeep detracted from the overall ambiance and diminished the potential beauty of the sanctuary. Furthermore, the diversity of butterflies on display was underwhelming. With only a limited variety of species present, the experience felt somewhat lackluster and failed to fully showcase the wonders of these magnificent creatures. Adding to the disappointment was the steep entrance fee of 20 soles per person. Considering the subpar maintenance and limited diversity of butterflies, the price felt excessive and did not align with the value offered by the experience. In conclusion, while Mariposario de Machupicchu has the potential to be a captivating attraction, its current state leaves much to be desired. With improvements in maintenance, diversity of species, and pricing, it could offer a more rewarding experience for visitors.

The place is very beautiful, you learn a lot, you have a very friendly and intelligent guide. The road to get there is beautiful and calm, I recommend that you take a lot of water with you. The cost is cheap and you get an unforgettable experience. they will show you all the stages of a butterfly from a microscopic level.

I really enjoyed this place, it's a research center and they have a lot of information about the types of butterflies and their chrysalises and cocoons from the Machu Picchu area. If you have been to butterfly gardens in the US or the UK you might be disappointed they don't have nearly as many butterflies as the showier butterfly houses and if you like research you will love it here!

The best thing about visiting this place was the exercise, because it is not close. There weren't many butterflies. It seems like they don't spend time planting plants, there are only dry branches. Butterflies don't have any food. They didn't give me a ticket when I paid for my ticket. The toilets did not have soap or paper.

I couldn't get to the top, it's a nice little hike to the place where the ladder seems to have been removed, not sure if there is another way up

Can’t get to the top. Due to erosion and rain and no maintainence the path is lost 😞 it could be very nice trek if they cared about it but it that case locals would want your money 🤣

Trail not maintained. Pretty sketchy in the rain. Would not recommend to do this by yourself or if you are not used to steep, slippery descents...

Didn't manage to reach the peek due to bad weather. Be careful, the trail isn't very popular and not very maintained. You can encounter snakes and small wild animals in your way. During some seasons of the year, bears might wander there too.

This trek is very nice. We were the only one who were trekking there. Unfortunately there is no ladder anymore for what reason we had to stop at the rock wall. But the walk until this was beautiful. You can snap some really nice shots there!

The trail is nice, but there is no longer a ladder.

I tried to hike this trail in February 2018, and the ladders have been taken down. It is currently being redone so don't try this trail until they officially re-open it.
