What a great place to bring the kids and spend the day! Large open playground with a great selection of activities for all ages. Splash pad is small but lots of fun. The stroll along the woods to see the animals was amazing. the train ride was a bit further away but worth the walk. there is a small $2.00 fee There are mosquitoes neat the snack bar so have bug spray. plenty of picnic tables around to sit and lots of shade from the tall trees. There were washrooms all around and were very clean.

My kids loved it. There are quite a collection of animals and they looked really well taken care of. The area is clean and I would say kid friendly. The playground is really good as well as there’s an option from toddler to big kids to use. The kids enjoyed the splash pad as well. The kids love the train ride and the payment for the ticket is very affordable. You just need to go to the very end of the zoo to ride the train. There is a picnic area and a lot of free parking. There’s a washroom at the entrance of the zoo and at the end as well right pass the waste water treatment plant.

I still can't believe that the zoo was free! It has everything! Animals, craft area, snack shop, little train (that costs $4/adult), 2 playgrounds and a splash pad. If we lived in Peterborough, this would be our go to place. My kids when asked me to move to Peterborough purely because of this place!

This is such a cute place, small but interesting. Its also free, and you can make donations at your discretion. It's especially great if you have kids. There's a good park right next to it! They have cool animals like reindeer, camels, peacocks, and meerkats! But also more common animals like pigs, turkeys, tortoises, and snakes. It's definitely stroller or wagon friendly, and there's lots of parking. There isn't an incredible amount of walking to do, so if you want a nice short day out it's perfect.

Park and snack bar , water splash pad. Great zoo for all ages . Best suited for families with younger children. My friend and I took 2 teenagers . They had a good time as well ! Recommended ❤

Fantastic place, you can tell all the animals are so well looked after. Excited to watch the baby dwarf crocodiles grow up over the next while. Snack bar is now open as of Victoria day 2023 and has very fast service.

Beautifully maintained ground and adorable animals. Perfect for an afternoon visit. The canteen is delicious, just be patient with the staff. The train is too cute and honestly refreshing on a really hot day as you cross the water at some point. It’s worth the trip and please don’t forget to donate!

I've lived in Peterborough for over 4 years and I just went to the zoo for the first time this past weekend with my boyfriend. The zoo was very clean and there were lots of animals to see. It's completely free of charge to visit and there is free parking. There is a canteen to purchase snacks and refreshments and a train ride for "kids" that cost $2/ride. I went on it and it was a cute date. Also brought my nephew here with my mom and he had a blast.

This is a nice small zoo that all, including families with young children will enjoy. The parking is as is the entrance.

We loved our visit. Very well maintained and free! The landscaping is well done. A great place for a nice walk and the kids enjoyed seeing the animals. The train ride ($2 per person) is amazing - I highly recommend it.

Amazing time. I grew up nearby and I was so happy to be able to bring my own daughter and husband here 💓 we loved seeing the animals and learning about them. The splash pad and playground were great fun! The train ride broke after we waited close to an hour for it but that happens it was out of anyone's control we got a refund and didn't take away from the fun we had. Great place for kids and adults it can get hot and crowded so water and hats are helpful.

Amazing time at this free zoo..kids loved the camels, llamas, peacock, lynx etc. The splash pad was a hit and kids went crazy! A bit of a drive but such a well maintained zoo and a good spot for a laid back picnic and cheap train ride! Worth a visit with kids.

There's a $2 fee for the train ride and such a wonderdul experience. We had a great day here and will definitely come back. The zoo has limited amount of animals but still great. Amazing experience for a free zoo! Even on a wintery day, we saw a python, camel, otters, monkeys, a giant tortoise, and so much more. The play ground is large and washrooms are available. It was small enough that it was easy to do with a toddler!

Awesome zoo. Animals are well taken care of. There's playgrounds hiking trail and open all year. It is also free.

My family and I went to the zoo with my grandson. I enjoyed the zoo, more than I thought I would. I was very impressed with the knowledge of the staff pertaining to the new bird to the zoo, who was still getting socialized.

This was a excellent zoo to go to with family! Free parking and free admission. They have a little train ride that is $2 per adult, kids under 2 are free. It took us about 3 hours to explore the zoo. Great shade area for lunch with a snack bar or bring your own lunch, and a splash pad. Highly recommend.

A fun place to spend a day near Peterborough. Entry is free and is open almost all days. There are not many animals to see but the train ride was awesome and kids enjoyed it. Splash pad was a nice touch to cool of the summer heat just before you head out from the zoo.

This place is fantastic in the winter. The ice is great, lots of room for everyone to enjoy and its blocked from the wind as the ice is down in the waterway. The ice is maintained well and lots of parking around for everyone. Plan to visit next winter for sure.

More fun than I expected - pretty cool to see the locks in action, but just in general it's in a nice spot, plenty of green space, picnic tables, ample parking, and not too far removed from town. Definitely a good spot for a summer afternoon

We had a good time on the Lift Lock Cruise in Peterborough. Seeing the World's highest hydrolic lift lock was amazing. Being over a hundred years old and still working. Over 77ft lift up in total was epic to experience! Definitely recommend seeing this historical wonder of Canada 🇨🇦 👌 👍 😀

I have been there twice and it’s a must watch . Kids find it intriguing and love to watch the lifts going up and down. You can do picnic as well as watch boats.

Stopped here to visit this landmark on a road trip. The facility was closed for the season however the park was beautiful and we enjoyed a picnic. The waterway is impressive and we enjoyed walking around. The only thing missing were garbage cans anywhere in the park.

Well worth a visit even if only as a spectator and not "locking through". Quite a marvel of engineering considering it's age of over one hundred years. Some decent geocaching too if that's your thing...

Don't come to this area often enough but when I do I have a blast. Great area to visit and see how the locks work. It's amazing. I lucked in this trip and got to see about 60 kayakers taking a trip up the Trent.

What an experience! Must stick around for 30 min or so, so that you can see boats going up as well as coming down, and do do this from both levels. If you have more time then you can take the paid (no advance online booking possible) waterway and locks cruise.

It was my birthday and was an incredible experience, learning about the locks,how they work, the hydronic cylinders,and the system. My partner was right it was better than having balloons, flowers and just sitting blowing candles . It was the first time I have ever seen such a system. Best ever birthday !!

Amazing feat of construction. The Peterborough lift lock was completed in 1904 and is the worlds highest hydraulic lift lock. I recently participated in the lock and paddle ‘23. It was an awesome experience. The staff are super friendly. They answered all my ridiculous tourist questions. Lmao.

Pretty remarkable that this was built so many years ago and still operates today. Lots of people come from around the world to see it. There's a tunnel underneath that you can drive through and it's a must to blare your horn and accelerate as you pass through.

Over 100 years of history wrapped up in this mechanical marvel. Tallest lock in the WORLD!! The speed of the links is much faster than I expected and it's a great place to bring a picnic! GORGEOUS view from up top!!

The gentlemen who are operating the locks were amazing folks. They went out of their way to explain to us about how these locks operate. They also had little gifts for the children. Will definitely visit again. Such a beautiful location

What a great experience at the lock on Saturday. It's such a marvel! Almost 70 kayakers went through together as part of an event. The staff were so kind and also funny! They were very accommodating to us. Thanks for a great time!

First time visiting the Canadian Canoe Muesum in Peterborough. I found it very informative and interactive. Lots of items to see and work with. Worth visiting the workshop as well. Any of the staff we talk to were quite helpful. Definitely take the time if you're ever in the area and go to the Muesum. You will not be disappointed! ☺👍☝☝

It's quite an amazing new facility that just opened on May 12, 2024. You can see the history of Canada through many of the old canoes.

Pretty niche museum but as a someone who does a lot of canoe camping it was cool to see how the technology and designs have developed over the years. There is also some great info on how Canoes were used commercially back in the day which we found interesting. We didnt know they still had a mask wearing policy. They gave kn95 masks to walk through which I know a lot of people dont like. Id consider bringing your own mask.

Never really knew that canoes had such a huge contribution to what we are today! Must visit this museum at least once. It's so informative, will definitely widen your perspective. The whole place is beautifully maintained with staff who have a very good knowledge on the subject. Each & every object has detailed information and explains the historical impact & importance. Being an immigrant myself, this place helped me gain so much knowledge about Canadian history. Definitely worth the time for people all ages. Their is also a memoir shop inside with things such as miniature canoes, books & magazines, collectables, t-shirts and so on. Price for an adult is $14 but you can avail a discount if you're a student. My friends definitely did. We paid $28 for the three of us. Totally worth it!

The fact that this museum was only about canoes and nothing else made it a kind of boring and after a while you have the feeling of already having seen everything already. On the other hand it's an awesome service to get in for free on thursdays and the souvenir shop has many things to offer! I think I actually spent more time in there than in the museum itself.

The Canadian Canoe Museum presents how indigenous peoples and their creation of canoes and kayaks allowed this country to be discovered, mapped, goods transported and communities built. The Hudson Bay company giant transport canoes were mind-boggling! The display on recreational canoeing (and sail canoes!) was great. It was and is a way to see this magnificent country from angles it could not otherwise be seen. The differing styles of dugout, birch bark and wooden strip & plank canoes and seal skin kayaks was amazing. I especially appreciated the extensive information on how different indigenous communities shaped them differently to suit the kind of water they were dealing with. It is also the story of the passion and vision of people who collected & preserved this important part of our history. The gift shop is also wonderful and I bought several gifts - and a comfy Canadian-made sweatshirt for myself. The volunteers were extremely helpful & COVID-19 protocols carefully observed. It was a wonderful outing for myself and my niece. She actually got married there a few years ago. I recommend it if you are in Peterborough.

The Canadian Canoe Museum is awesome! Anyone who has a love for canoeing will enjoy this museum. They have a very impressive collection of canoes. My favourites were Bill Mason's, Pierre Trudeau's, Gordon Lightfoot's, The royal family, and The Starkell's canoes! I will be returning for another visit once the museum moves to the new location on the river. The current building looks a little depressing from the outside but once you get inside you realize how amazing this place is. The only complaint I have is that while I was there, the Gordon Lightfoot plaque with the music wasn't working, so I couldn't hear what the song Canary Yellow Canoe sounds like. This song is hard to find because it is not on Youtube or Spotify or anywhere else on the internet and the only way to hear it is by buying the 4 CD box set that costs $55!. Hopefully they get the speakers fixed soon. When we arrived the person at the front desk gave us a great introduction and he was very excited to see us. We also had the whole museum to ourselves as we were the first to arrive all day. Other people did show up throughout the day. I hope you enjoy the museum as much as I did!

Amazing museum! The amount of information to learn is great for the avid learner while it can also be consumed in bite sized chunks if necessary. Highly recommend a stop here if visiting the Peterborough area or Southern Ontario.

This centre was amazing. It's absolutely huge with giftware, moccasins, food items, clothing, an art gallery and a museum. If you're in the area, this is a must stop! They're also dog friendly and encourage you to bring your dog in with you!

What an amazing find! I had driven passed the centre thinking it was a community centre (given its name). I finally visited the store this past weekend and was blown away. It is much larger than meets the eye. The variety is really great too, including jewelry, moccasins, mukluks, authentic clothing, purses etc. We got there a little late so I didn't have the opportunity to spend much time in the art gallery. The artists are also on site which makes the experience even more appealing. There is even a museum section in the basement. It's definitely worth stopping by!

Awesome place to stop and shop. So many things to look at and learn about. The moccasins are amazing and so many colors and styles to choose from that it's hard to pick just one. Fast and friendly service and a great experience. Loved going here so much that my husband and I went back the next day so I could purchase a beautiful purse and matching wallet 😊

I love going to this place. The staff are very helpful. The prices are about average with other places. They do have a small museum in the lower level. Once in awhile they have the artist available to meet you. I have been going for many years. And I will continue going.

This is a great place for great crafts and artwork. The items speak loudly and proudly of the people that life in this wonderful community. We never return to South Carolina without a visit and bringing home some wonderful pieces. My wife loves the moccasins and always purchases a few pairs at the store or online.

My daughter asked to go to the Art gallery . It was a great experience. My favorite piece was the Brown bear painting , gorgeous! Tons of items to purchase . They have alot to see for everyone . And there are 3 large areas to explore. They also sell moccasins that are very well made !

Really special place, staffed by super special folks. The people here are so friendly and caring, always willing to go one step further to make sure your experience is too notch. Interacting with the artisans working in the gallery is a treat, and if Freddy is there, he'll chat with you while he paints and it's wonderful! From jewellery to clothing, paintings and sculptures, beautiful hand made objects, ornaments, and footwear - this place has everything. Even downstairs with the historical museum, there's literally something for everyone to enjoy. Love coming back here again and again!

Me and my boyfriend came across this store spontaneously as we were sight seeing. The exterior of the store is inviting and welcoming and the owners are the same. I wish I had gotten their names, but they were extremely kind. The lady informed us of a Powwow that is taking place in 2 weeks that we are extremely excited to attend. The inside of the centre is breathe taking. We could have spent the entire day there looking at all the artwork, clothing, books, etc. As a teacher, I picked up a few books for my classroom to share with my students. We wear orange shirts for Canada's National Day for Truth and Reconcilliation. We also have an orange flag waving in the front of our school in commemoration and honour of the lives lost in residential schools, the survivors and communities impacted. On the daily announcement the principal gives a brief spiel of appreciation to the First Nations, Metis and Indigenous people. Yet our classrooms still do not have adequate books to spread awareness and knowledge of the history. The reason we wear orange shirts and why these announcements take place is missing. The truth and the reason are interchangeable. I am told it is because the books are to graphic, gruesome, sensitive or not age appropriate. Which is far from the truth. These books are the truth and my question was how can we fully reconcile without knowing the truth? I want to educate my students to be knowlegable, kind, respectful and compassionate. This store has the most beautiful resources and I am graciously thankful. Would highly recommend to stop by if you are in the area.

Very good collection of the gigantic reptiles who once ruled this planet. A few exhibits are too good - almost too good to be true. The drive through is also mapped out very well. There’s a mini-golf course as well. If only the facilities were a bit more elaborate, it would be a 5-star place. Only one chip-truck to chose from and the gift shop is pretty decent

We went as a family and all of us loved it. Our kids are 1.5 and 3, they both had so much fun! Especially seeing how active the turtles were. Shoutout to Nikki (not sure on spelling). They were super friendly and knowledgeable, and great with the kids! The walk through was just the right length for the kids. Would definitely go back again.

Excellent place to go with kids. They do have sitting and play area as well. Drive through is easy with kids and You'll definitely learn about the dinosaurs 🦕😌. There's a food van too with decent food options. One can easily spend 3-4 hours at this place.Around $38 for a car entry. Since, most of the dinosaurs moves with sound effect that would definitely create an excitement among kids.

Great place to stop when traveling to Toronto from Ottawa. Especially with kids. Good value. Not as many reptiles as we were expecting but way more dinosaurs. There is a food truck for food or you can take a picnic. Also mini golf for an extra fee. Under 3's are free for the reptiles and walk round.

Took my son here for his 4th bday. I must say it was an amazing experience. Very friendly staff and very well maintained. Can spend a full day here..but it was a bit too hot for us.

A very nice experience. The indoor exhibits with reptiles and turtles are obviously well maintained. The dinosaur walk was filled with a great selection of life sized (maybe) Dino's. Young kids will live this. The cross walk was also a huge hit. We did not do the drive. My only beef as usual is having to go through a gift shop, twice. Overall though a great place that the staff seem very welcoming and informative. Price was as expected.

This was so much fun! My husband and I stopped here while on the bikes and did the walk through. They have a large selection of rescued snakes, alligators, turtles. Of course the dinosaurs are the main attraction.

The kids enjoyed the experience and seeing all the different dinosaur fossils bones. The kids liked the animated dinosaurs and reptiles at the park. There are 2 different experiences at the park one is walking through all the exibits, the other is driving through on a different path. The cost to see the dinosaurs is used towards the reptile rescues which you will also see throughout the park. One suggestion is a larger bathroom facility, while most adults can wait children can't wait in a line for long periods of time to use the washrooms.

Great experience! Great place for really young kids i.e. 5 years old or under that are dinosaur enthusiasts. Went together with family and bought the tickets online which usually cost about $35. The staff were friendly and professional. The self-guided driving tour was rather slow and boring, especially for us older adults. A lot of dinosaurs, especially T-Rex. With some odd bunch of insects which don't necessarily fit the theme. Overall, a one time experience sort of thing that I wouldn't do again.

Went there on Thursday and was really shocked at how much there was to see and do. Lots of animals and lots of great animatronics. So many snakes, turtles, crocs, gators, etc. the walk through is what we did because the drive thru you wouldn’t be able to see the animals. Worth it and all proceeds go to the animals and attractions as it’s a non profit and all animals are rescued, not purchased. 5 stars, 10/10 recommend!

Great for all ages. The dinosaur park is pretty cool and the museum has some great information. We personally loved all the live crocodiles. They also have a chip truck and picnic tables if you want to take a break off the highway. And they have mini-putt, who doesn’t like mini-putt 🤷‍♂️

It was such an amazing experience , a perfect way to spend quality family time. So very much to see without having to walk for miles and miles . I absolutely loved this and will be returning many times with my granddaughters .

The dinosaur park is definitely worth visiting. Despite the scorching heat, we opted to drive through. The lifelike moving dinosaurs were almost too convincing for my young daughters, while my son had an absolute blast.

Came here with our boys. Had a great time even in the rain. The staff are very friendly and have great sense of humour. Very clean gift shop / entry to walking indoor and outdoor self-guided tour. Take your time and enjoy. Followed up with the drive thru tour which was great as well. Will return again. They are now taking donations on go fund me following a contractor abandoning a started project on site. Please support. Every bit helps. Not only for the animated attractions but the live animals and breeding programs as well as the currently unfinished expansion of the park.

The dinosaur park exceeded our expectations in terms of the number of dinosaurs and exhibits on display. The animatronics and sound effects made for a very cool experience for the whole family. Very helpful staff with lots of great information.

Good small venue. Not super accessible. Theatre itself is good, on 2 levels. Good seats, and good view of the stage. Good place for a concert, and in good condition.

Got to see Gerry Dee here and I was so glad that the venue was nice and cozy. Very intimate experience to see a big name performer. The staff were so helpful and friendly and although the beer was expensive, it was not as expensive as many places I've been to, so there's that. Good experience!

Saw a concert by Justin Hayward last night. Excellent concert. Excellent accoustics. Sound volume was perfect. Not to loud or too quiet.

Fun night out to watch the PSO at the Showplace. Roomy seats, great views of the stage and the sound was on point. Looking forward to attending more PSO shows in the years to come.

Best concert I've been to in years in every respect.

Saw a cover band, Queen. It's a kind of music. Band put on an absolute great show. Super band would go see them again in the future. The venue itself was good the only thing was when they opened the doors at 7:00 all the partons where huddled in the entrance with not much room to move until the opened the seating part of the venue. Other than that, a great time was had by all.

Had a fantastic experience while attending the Fiddler on the Roof performance. From the venue, smiles on the staff and the talent, it was an excellent evening.

I've always loved coming here. Saw the Next Generation Leahy Christmas here last week -- wonderful and inspiring. The theatre is big enough for big shows, yet small enough for every seat to be excellent. A great resource in Peterborough.

I saw the celebration of The Band's, The Last Waltz. Incredible musicians!!! A great venue. Not a bad seat in the house!!

Recently renovated, this theater is very good for live concerts. We really enjoyed "Relive the 50's & 60's show, which featured 5 musicians and 8 vocals & dancers. 4 male & 4 female. All were terrific and it was the best live show we have seen.

Kim Mitchell rocked our old bones back to life! Great venue!
