Omaha

From the 1890s through the mid-20th century, Omaha emerged as one of the world’s top livestock markets. The city derives its name from the Omaha Indian word meaning “upstream people.” Notable sites include the historic Old Market, the city’s arts and entertainment district; the Gene Leahy Mall, a long, landscaped park in downtown Omaha; the Heartland of America Fountain; and the nationally prominent Henry Doorly Zoo.
