Nice treat to get out of the cold. And when it's too hot outside, this would be a good break. There are lockers here, bring a quarter or two! Lockers are 25 cents and worth it. That way to don't have to walk around carrying a coat. Kids have fun here, especially when they've been taught manners or they have siblings present to keep them reminded to make wise choices.
Parents are good to have around to supervise and assure safety of all the kids. (Parents, this is a learning children's museum where kids learn to cooperate... give them a chance to work out issues and the coach them).
Really enjoyed being here. Can't wait to come back.
My children loved this venue. For 10 dollars a person, it offered a lot for them to see and do. Their favorite parts involved playing with the crane to move blocks, and building gliders to put on the track.
Loved our time here. With our 18 mo old we could only last 3.5 hrs if she was older though we could have played longer! There is a little food spot inside to buy things. You can also bring in snacks and drink from what I could tell. The whole thing is a giant playground so much fun to experience with them.
Really nice museum and the price is great! Both of my kids (5 & 11) enjoyed the visit.
Such a cool place for kids and extremely clean even when kids are running around everywhere. The staff is excellent interacting with kids. My 5 year old son and I both had so much fun.
Spectacular place! Children will not be disappointed. So much to do, learn, explore and lots of fun. Some outdoor activities, crafting, water play and much more. Parents will be exhausted after all the fun! Timing is important if you don't want a crowd. Weekends and weekday mornings can be busy. Many field trips on weekday mornings. Still fun even if busy.
This was our first time visiting the museum. My 2yr old son absolutely loved it. We will definitely be back again.
This Children’s Museum was absolutely phenomenal! We are so glad we came. It is accommodating for people of all ages. We had a group of 11.. adults(29-40), teens (17-13), & kids (4-10) Well worth the price. There was SO MUCH to try out and do that we didn’t even make it through it all. We were there for a good solid 2-3 hours. We also really loved the fact that there was a place to get a cold drink or snack, plenty of restrooms, even a gift shop and park outside to enjoy. Couldn’t think of another thing that they could add to make it better to be honest. We all throughly enjoyed our afternoon spent here. The Christmas Tree and slide was some of our favorite items this time of year. We went the Friday after Thanksgiving. 🎄♥️🎅🏽
First time visiting here with my 6 year old daughter, and we had a lot of fun!
Came on a 110-degree day and lived the cool inside and the wet splash pad outside. Great place and many things to do for hours!

I couldn't decide if it was big or not by the pictures. It was a pretty decent size place. We had alot of fun all my kids enjoyed it and the oldest is 8. They had a little Cafe with snacks, drinks, wraps, salad and ice cream.
$10 for everyone 1 yr and up. They have a nursing room (changing table only in there) with a comfy rocking chair. Well have to come back in the early summer to enjoy the splash pad and park way to wet and cold this visit. We spent about 4 hrs here. They also had lockers for $ .25, Perfect for ours coats.
Perfect place for a younger child's bday party!
We had a blast visiting here with our kids during our holiday trip home. We found so much to do and it was just the tip of the iceberg! The security guard was so friendly and helpful when I had to bring my daughter in to go to the bathroom before we got our tickets, and we found lovely stuff in the gift shop to make the most of our visit. We'll look forward to coming back again when our younger daughter is a bit older.

Really cool place. The interactive blood suckers exhibit with mosquitoes and leaches was really cool. I went with my 5 year old son and we both really enjoyed all the exhibits. The fish were great, but the baby turtles were ADORABLE. Super convenient as we were in town to go the the childrens museum and this is located on the same road. Definitely plan to return again, when it's drier. We would of walked some of the trails but due to the rain, it was a little too muddy for me. But I definitely want to go back to do the trails... the easy one anyway. Staff was very friendly as well.
Very nice clean museum the exhibits are a little bit small but they also have a lot of live animals which is cool. The best part about the museum in my opinion was the temporary exhibit that was all about the history of video games. I've never seen something like this in a museum before but it would be cool to see stuff like this in more museums
Fun museum, with a beautiful aquarium exhibit. I wish there had been more fossils and fewer video game exhibits, but I get it. However they had some really great pieces.
The nature hikes behind the museum are gorgeous. Hopefully the water levels will be lower next visit, as there were several trails we could not explore.
I'm not gonna lie and say this is an all day, knock your socks off museum cause it's not, but it is amazing and totally worth it.
We had 3 kids, ages 6, 8, and 12. They will enjoyed themselves. My son hasn't stopped talking about the two headed snake and my niece enjoyed the live animals, taking particular interest in a gator that apparently had a jaw injury at some point. My daughter thought the outdoor dinos was absolutely amazing.
It will only take a couple hours to go though, but it was well curated and appealing to both the kids and adults in our group. With it being right next to a wonderful playground, it made for a great afternoon!
In Jackson for the weekend and found this place on google. It took us about an hour and a half. It was neat and cost us $22 (2 adults, 1 youth). If you have young children may take longer to go through but gave us some entertainment for a few hours.
We hiked here from Lafleur Bluff State Park and it was a pretty cool experience. They had some very interesting things in there and lots of dinosaurs which I personally loved. My kids also had a great time and found everything in there very interesting.
Amazing display of nature past and present. Very reasonable price, only 8$ per adult. Impressive dinosaur skeletons and live tanks holding fish, reptiles and amphibians. Worth checking out if your interested in nature native to Mississippi.
We were very excited to go here! It's such a wonderful museum, they have tons of interactive learning exhibits which is amazing I learned a lot in one visit. There staff is very nice and sweet ,the place is well maintained and clean. They have live exhibits of fish and reptiles, they have a cutest two headed snake and sea turtles that likes interacting with humans. In every section they have different games you can play, also there were sanitizers in different spots which was great they care about the safety of their visitors. One of the best experiences i've had so far.
Dinosaurs! Need I say anymore of course I will. This museum never disappoints. Always clean and the staff is eager to guide and educate you on the exhibits. The space exorbitant is very exciting as well I’m not sure how long it’s going to be there but in itself it’s worth the visit. Great family fun with live animal exits as well.
It was definitely fun for my children, ages 5 & 7. They were able to learn about their natural surroundings here in MS, and they were able to meet Peter the tortoise.
I personally found it a tad underwhelming, as there is so much more natural science in MS that wasn't on display.

This place is very big and well organised. Also very informative. There is a natural trail. That trail ends near at Pearl River. I couldn’t go upto that point since I was all alone in the trail. But anyone can enjoy it if they go over there with a group of friends and family.
Absolutely one of the best museums I have come across in many years..The staff here was very friendly and very knowledgeable...My daughter's field trip here was very informative and I was very pleased with the information provided here compared to our local so- called museums.. I for one give a 2 Thumbs Up Kudos to this Facility
This is such a great science museum. It has plenty of types of animals, fish and insects. You need to take your time to read all the information of each of them. You'll be very entertained with such a great museum! I enjoyed it very much because inside is big and you have more dinosaurs outside. You'll like it a lot!
Blood suckers exhibit was quite cool and very informative. Other exhibits are also well organized and interesting. Quite affordable, 8$/adult and 6$/youth. Lots to see and learn about endangered species in Mississippi. Brilliant to have the museum connected to the nature trail and to playground and Children’s museum. Not 5 stars because we did not feel welcome. From the admission lady who staring at her phone to the gift-shop staff or any other staff we encountered, no smile and no interaction. They were all looking like they wanted to be somewhere else!
We loved it... even bought a membership. We mostly enjoyed the trails around the museums. We are seniors and look forward to coming here often.
Wonderful way to spend a cold, wintery day. I saw and learned about critters I didn't know existed in my backyard aka ponds and I am even more determined than ever not to get back in. 💯😂🤣 Find out about the plants and wildlife you may encounter on your outdoor adventures in the great state of Mississippi. Nature is ever changing, abundant in wildlife, flowers, and creatures in different shapes, sizes, and habitats.
We almost didn’t make it here! The entrance was sort of blocked off, they are doing construction of some kind and originally we were going to try the kids museum but it looked closed, so kept on driving and decided to try this place out. I’m so glad we did! This place is very unassuming and I didn’t not go in with high expectations. There were few people and no line to pay. Fair warning, the animatronic dinosaurs might seem a bit scary for smaller kids, but we made it work. The live animal tanks are a great juxtaposition to the built habitats and honestly I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did! The outdoor trails looked great, and the various dinosaur statues were pretty fun. There was this interactive play station for kids showing a topographic map that was also super entertaining! Overall, highly recommend. Like I mentioned at the beginning, this place is right by the children’s museum so you could easily make a day of it, and there’s also a good sized public park!
My husband, two daughters (6&7), and I toured the museum for the first time Dec 30th. We were so impressed with the exhibits and nature trails. We really enjoyed ourselves and found the admission price to be reasonable. Definitely recommend.

First time there! It was a little different from the bigger zoos. There was plenty of space and time to explore. The animals there were fat and happy! They have a large variety of animals, and appeared to be acquiring more as many of the exhibits we're without inhabitants. It was early in the season and very happy to have the experience with my son, who LOVED it! The carousel was fun as carousels are! I bet it will be spectacular during the height of the summer season! I've been told the train should return then.
Be prepared to prepurchase tickets or have cash on hand to enter, as they didn't take cards at the door. The carousel rides are $2 each, so prepurchase at admissions or have cash on hand!
Also, remember to carry in something to eat and drink, as they don't have food nor drink available to purchase except for unreliable Pepsi machines and one snack machine inside the admissions building.
For the fun experience, friendliness of the park staff and especially the price of admission, it was worth trying on our spring break to Jackson getaway!
This zoo was lovely and was definitely much more beautiful than I anticipated. Loved the range of animals in there. Felt a little sorry for the lonely ones like the Giraffe, Tiger, Black Bear, Rhinoceros but that's just my animal loving sensitive side lol. I love how they made the habitats feel real for the animals in there. The only down side was, there was no real restaurants just a few food trucks. It would also be really nice to have a place for souvenirs as well. All in all, I am giving this place a 5 star because it surpassed my expectations. :)
This zoo needs some major help!!
Let me start by saying the staff were wonderful. Everyone talked to my 3yo and I as we passed by. But we were there from noon to 4 and only saw five employees total the entire time. One at the entrance for tickets, one at the carousel, one driving by on a golf cart and two zoo keepers walking by that stopped and talked to us.
The animals seemed well taken care of and happy but the zoo was practically crumbling down around them. Several closed off areas due to structural issues, broken and missing signs all over, and countless cracks/falling hazards in the pathways.
Everything was cash only which could be seen as a major inconvenience in today’s world, but I did my research and brought cash.
The fruit popsicle we bought had been previously completely melted and refrozen. My toddler didn’t seem to mind but it made for a huge mess and just a little distasteful.
We loved the Rhino, monkeys, hippo, and zebra.
My family and I are visiting Jackson Mississippi on vacation. We were excited to visit the Zoo and to our surprise we were disappointed. The grass is over grown, majority of the exhibits were closed and the animals that are there appears to be kept to the bare minimum. We were informed by an employee and another park guest the zoo may be moving and little monies is going into the up keep of the attraction. If the zoo isn’t going to be maintained for the better good of the animals, employees and park guests please close for business and move the remaining animals to another facility that will care for them as they should be.
The perfect place for an afternoon. Although there are obvious issues, you can’t deny that the staff at the Jackson Zoo are trying their hardest with what they have. Having more attendance and sponsors would help with the structural issues they face, as there is no denying that they are underfunded. Everyone was friendly as well! There are also animal wish lists on Amazon that one can easily access to help!!
Love this zoo. My kids have a ball every time. Animals look happy, you can get very close and they are very interactive.
Everything is run down. Grass is over grown. Animals are depressed. Staff does not care and the place is barely running. This place needs to be shut down and I recommend everybody to tell them to do the same. The animals are in extremely poor conditions. It’s a joke the city runs it the way they do.
Desperately in need of MAJOR funding, TLC, and animals. A lot of empty exhibits and attractions. The carousel was closed but the music was playing. The deli near the African Savanah was closed. A lot of doors open that said "staff only." And no train for the track at Livingston Park. When I drove in the gate, I had a feeling that I might not drive out. It feels empty before you see anything.
The animals they have: tiger, bear, monkeys, birds, rhino, zebra, turtles, ostriches, fish do look healthy and taken care of.
Needs some repairs, and updated really bad. Even if the walkways were taken better care of I believe you would have more guests come see your little zoo.
The setting of the zoo is lovely. It is a very old zoo, 115 yrs I think. That said, it has fallen on hard times, especially through the pandemic. They only have 3 full time staff I think.
The animals are all healthy and the grounds are clean. animals we have not seen elswhere:

7 alligators (we have seen token small ones at other zoos, but these guys were huge!)
Baby Black bear. Lost its mother and they are trying to find a buddy for him.
The carousel was fun! Lots of interesting animals to ride there.
This place should be shut down! Cages falling in, potholes, only saw 1 tiger, 1 bear, 1 rhino, a couple chimps, monkeys and GOLDFISH! Grass is taller than some exhibits, trees down all over the place(from a storm 3 weeks ago) No food/drink options. Best thing was the snake house with a few snakes! Splash pad barely worked. Aquarium building had dirty murky water full of goldfish!
the pictures should speak for themselves. it was way worse in person. i feel extremely bad for the animals. literally, couldn’t see half of them because of the weeds. they barely have any animals. from the looks of it, they care more about the splash pad. the cafe wasn’t open and grown up, restrooms too. the vending machine they did have for drinks, you have to click one drink to get what you want ( click a peach fanta for a pepsi). absolutely just sad. i would add videos. but the bear exhibit was the saddest for me. the bridges were literally dry rotted and falling apart. the picture of it was loose, and the video i have you can literally shake it and it almost falls off. won’t be going back! they should be shut down for the sake of the animals.
Great experience for the price! This zoo does an incredible job with the limiting funding they receive. They have several new exhibits opening soon!
The keepers were friendly and incredibly passionate about public relations. Moreover, the animals that are on exhibit were active with excellent viewing areas.
There is even a SMALL attached water park play area for those hot Mississippi summer days!
I would highly recommend a visit, show the local zoo some love!

So beautiful! We love visiting the Capital Buildings in each state. I'm curious to why the new one. The old one is just down the road. A little love and would be great. Both are beautiful.

Among the more impressive Capitol buildings, with its majestic dome topped with golden statue. The stained glass windows in the back are beautiful, too
I ended up with a private tour. Very nice experience with a well-spoken docent. Of course it's free and well worth the time.
Must-see Capitol building! The architecture and decor are ornate and interesting. Things were not very busy while we were there and we got a very informative personal tour by volunteer Steve, which we really appreciated. One of the better Capitol visits.

As a resident of MS and tour guide at State Capitol, I am very proud of how it represents us. It was designed by Theodore Link in 1901.
The photos were taken during the Book Festival so definitely a much larger crowd than normal.
What I like most is the fact that it has 10 different types of marble; foreign and domestic. There are also 4,750 original light fixtures. It’s built on Beaux-Art Style which was popular from 1890-1920.
Visitors who are touring all state capitols have stated that MS has one of the nicest.
There is so much history under one roof and it’s simply beautiful. I highly recommend visiting if in the area or passing through!
Being from Louisville, it's crazy that I just visited this place last week! However, I must say that I'm thoroughly impressed with my home state's capitol! It's undoubtedly beautiful and represents our state well. The tour guide was very informative and gave us some fun facts along our journey. I highly recommend the Mississippi Capitol for field trips. Perhaps you can even contact your representative to sit in on a congressional session!
My son and I visited the Mississippi State Capitol during a recent road trip and were very impressed with how lovely and well-maintained the building is. The people of Mississippi can be justifiably proud of this magnificent public building. The employees of the Capitol were extremely welcoming and pleasant and were kind enough to answer our questions about the history of the building. The stone work in the building was most impressive and truly beautiful!
I really enjoyed the tour here. We did the self-guided and they had a lot of materials to make the tour interesting. I thought the scavenger hunt was fun. The building is spectacular, a gorgeous example of the beaux arts. They really went in on the exposed bulbs.
Stunning State Capitol in Jackson. The architecture is beautiful, the theater lights in the archways give the building a classy feel. The rotunda is gorgeous. Staff were friendly and helpful, obviously caring about the Capitol and its guests.
The Mississippi State Capitol is the most magnificent building in the state! The building is a Beaux Arts masterpiece. The care and maintenance of Mississippi’s “treasure among treasures” is top drawer. You will not be disappointed when visiting this site. This is a “must see” ..the staff and volunteers are very knowledgeable and helpful and there is no charge to visit. I give the Mississippi State Capitol my highest rating! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️❣️

Wonderful museum. Free entry. We all learned a lot about history that you can't just learn in books. The kids really enjoyed it. Gentleman at the beginning was super helpful in guiding us the right direction and they had a wonderful map. He also informed us that we could tour the new Capitol building as well. Great place!

Awesome afternoon of exploring! The museum is free of charge and filled with great exhibits! They also have different ways of experiencing the museum depending on your interest (i.e. architecture, politics, hidden secrets, etc.). They provided a scavenger hunt for our kids, which included prizes for answering all the questions correctly. This experience far exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend it for anyone in the area!
This is a must-visit building if you are in downtown Jackson. The posted hours are Wednesdays through Fridays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. The architecture and history are beautifully displayed on the three floors.
Beautifully restored with helpful docents and plenty of exhibits. Definitely worth carving an hour or two out of your day to explore Mississippi history.
Friendly staff at the reception. Entry is free. Those who are interested in architecture and history, can visit this place. Building has three floors accessible for visitors for self guided tour, it has lift too.
This was an extraordinarily well done museum, particularly for being free. Informative and interactive while not being too detailed. Gives a good appreciation for both Mississippi history as well as the building itself‘s history. A top thing to do in Jackson.

We went to see the " what became of Dr smith" exhibit. Quite Interesting look aT days gone by. Dr Smith was a creative optometrist who disappeared in the early 1900's. Was found 40 years later in an insane asylum. His journey is chronicled in the art if his great grandson. Other great exhibits to see as well.
I’ve always enjoyed the Art Museum, my favorite showcase is the scholar showcase. Recently I went for an event they hosted in partnership with others and I had an amazing time there was kids run and playing out side there was kids in the inside along with adults doing the guided tours. I even over hear a little girl answer a question the tour guid asked and she got it right. The fun filled activities out side for both adults and kids. The Art museum even brought out Jackson Hinds for health screenings. There was several food trucks and in total for my entire time spent there I spent roughly 33 dollars. Not to mention they hosted a movie from the Cspire stage while everyone hung in the Bankplus green. I look forward to future event the Art Museum have.
Jackson has over 20 museums. This one is near the Jackson Convention Complex and the Russell C. Davis Planetarium. It is located behind Thalia Mara Hall in walking distance of the Westin hotel. I attended the 2023 Mississippi Invitational, which highlighted 15 young Mississippi Artists. The building is showing its age a bit, but is still very nice. The staff is friendly, courteous and efficient. The Art Garden is not to be missed.
We visited this time on a high school field trip. Our group's guide was very knowledgeable and patient. She fielded the students' funny comments and sincere questions very well. The classroom activity really inspired some thought and allowed the kods to connect with the pirces we viewed. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and hope to come again soon when we have more time to appreciate all that the museum as to offer.
The Mississippi Museum of Art (MMA) in downtown Jackson is an artistic oasis! It's Mississippi's largest art museum, overflowing with stunning permanent collections and captivating special exhibits. Special exhibits, while ticketed, bring in fresh collections that'll leave you wanting more.
But the MMA offers more than just art. Take a break in their gorgeous Art Garden, a green haven perfect for unwinding or enjoying a picnic lunch. With a calendar packed with events and programs, the MMA is a lively center for Jackson's art scene.
Absolutely incredible destination in Jackson Mississippi! Not only is there historical pieces but they support young artists! Such a powerful experience! Highly recommend!
Great exhibits, I went on a Monday at 1:30 and it was serene and an awesome experience.
Went on first Saturday which was advertised as free...nope. so I spent the 13 bux .
Had some nice displays but the lighting was so low, I couldn't see the paintings.
The patrons were friendly and happy.
I was spoiled since I went to Picasso display in Atlanta which was a complete display.
Was nice to see young folks doing their own painting.
A lovely mix of international and local artists. My favorite local was Gwendolyn A. Magee, whose quilting rises to the level of museum masterpieces. I paid $18, and I think part of that was for access to the traveling Picasso landscapes exhibit. Wow! There was even a hands-on component to the cubist exhibit: sketch pads and pencils with tips for how to draw in the vein of Picasso. To see so many of his works close-up was a real treat. Guide/docent Kenya was engaging and generous with her time. Thank you for sharing your personal touch!
This is a wonderful museum and grounds. Visited at the beginning of September as part of our Jackson roadtrip stop. Entrance was free and there was plenty of great pieces and interesting installations. But by far, the best part, was the kids’ section! My daughter absolutely loved it, so much in fact, that every art museum we visited after she complained that it wasn’t an art museum because she wasn’t allowed to make any art. Which, hard arguing with that logic to a 5 year old 😅
The space is smaller but if you’re bringing kids it’s honestly better, because you don’t leave feeling like you missed a whole section or a whole floor, etc. Overall, highly recommended!

I toured this museum during the Mississippi portion of a road trip, and I was really impressed! They have an excellent permanent collection of amazing works which are free to the public, and the invitational exhibit which is $15, but definitely worth it! I am always happy to give my money to parks and museums! The staff here are also very friendly and the museum is very beautiful. There is also a gorgeous Art Garden outside of the museum where you can sit and enjoy beautiful flowers and trees and sculptures.
I feel like this is an underappreciated gem in downtown Jackson. It's never been busy any time we have gone, even when free. It's a nice, peaceful place to spend an hour or so. Lovely garden on the grounds, nice, somewhat small permanent and visiting exhibits. Free on Sundays until Sept 2022 and some other days here and there - check website. Also worthwhile for special events like live outdoor music or the children's art festival. Free parking as well.
One of the best museum that we have ever visit.
Pros: The place is pretty nice both from the outside and the inside. They are free so it is so amazing and everyone can come and visit that is so awesome. Let me pay the excise be a “special and there’s many activities that you can do while you are there.
Cons: There’s not a lot of parking space and it is downtown so that may be quite something going on. Because it is free so there’s not many special pictures of arms that you can see.
