My husband and I spent the weekend in Staunton, celebrating our anniversary. We love history and the arts so we thought it'd be a good choice, and seeing Julius Caesar performed at this theater was a wonderful addition to our weekend plans. The staff were great and the actors were amazing. They really stay true to the Shakespearean experience and it's something to behold! Everyone did a magnificent job. My only complaint is that we sat in the second row on the second level and there was absolutely no back support. It's just a bench, which can be uncomfortable after 2+ hours. It appeared that the other seats had at least partial backs. Just something to make note of if you're making seat selections. Other than that, terrific!

We went for the matinee of Romeo and Juliet it had a modern spin and was all and all a wonderful performance. The venue is great with great acoustics.

The missus and I attended the opening night of Taming of the Shrew, and had a rollicking good time. Delivery was fast-paced and energetic. I can see why this style of entertainment would have been popular in 1592. Minus 1 for the seating. While we weren't standing for the performance, the thin cushions on the wood benches began to become quite uncomfortable after about 90 minutes. At least there were seat backs. All-in-all, it was very interesting for us to experience Shakespeare as it would have appeared in the Bard's period. We would love to return for another performance.

What a fun place! The small cast puts on a few different plays during the season. I saw pride and prejudice and had a blast. Lots of laughs. They cast also plays some music before the show so get there a little earlier to see that. Would love to see more of their offerings.

Decent performance. The staff is incredibly Rude! A family of 5, spending $300 to attend, which pales to other theaters but the treatment was nasty! One member having severe asthma and literally cannot breathe for over two hours with a mask, only slightly pulling it away to keep from unnecessary attention, but attendants acting like we were criminals. Unnecessary and totally unnerving! We followed their rules but what a horrible experience!!!! Perhaps after Covid it would be okay but from people who have literally gone to the theater all over the world, not worth the fuss! Note, seats on the side also show less than 50% of the show.

They make Shakespeare so fun! Just watched As You Like It and had an amazing experience. Laughed so hard at one point that I started crying. Wonderful actors and productions and a gorgeous venue! Definitely worth the visit!!

It is a very nice theater, though the seats can be a bit more comfortable. I attended a performance of Measure for Measure. Most of the cast was capable, however the actor playing the villain whispered too many of his lines and could not be understood. The theater includes a small bar and gift shop, though I did not avail myself of their services. It is worth a visit when in town.

I came here about a month ago for the first time with a couple of friends of mine and I was so enthralled at the beautiful space, the friendliness of the staff, and the absolutely wonderful performances of the actors. We saw Much Ado About Nothing and I loved it so much that I brought my mom and sister with me to another showing this past weekend. I am so glad that I know about the American Shakespeare Center, it is definitely going to become somewhere I plan to frequent whenever I can. I particularly loved the incorporation of music in the breaks before and in the middle of the play. These actors are so incredibly talented, I really cannot say enough nice things about my experience here.

We have been to the Center several times over the past decade, but this 2023 season is exceptional. Fantastic acting, costumes, scenery. The play we saw was the Christmas Carol and our adult children agreed that it was a visit unlike any before. Highly recommend!!

Excellent, excellent, excellent. If you have the opportunity to visit, go. The players and cast are amazing. They pull you right into the performance. I was somewhat skeptical at first. But you will not be disappointed. We are looking forward to returning.

Shakespeare has never been so accessible and perfect! Love the bar. Wish the gift shop had more stuff to buy. Some of the performers could not project their voice and need to learn that. Loved it when they had the synopsis of the first half of the play printed out

Love love love this place! You are transported back in time with the decor and set up but then the actors bring fresh content and present humor and I love seeing them play music and have fun together! Always entertaining and if you want to have an adventure can sit on stage sometimes to participate with the actors.

The company has so much *fun* onstage, it's contagious! Performers are top-notch, and their interpretation of Shakespeare is modern and accessible. We love the musical numbers beforehand and at intermission (with song choices usually hilariously relevant to the play). Maybe I've only seen comedies thus far?

This is a gorgeous recently renovated theater in Staunton, Virginia. We went to see The Tempest by William Shakespeare on a weekday. The acting was excellent. Bonus points for labeling the gender-neutral bathroom and for the actors telling us their pronouns in the talk back about the show. This was my first time in Staunton and my first time at the theater. We will definitely come back!

Beware of upper level seating... I bought tickets ($60 each ticket) for my family to see Christmas Carol. It was incredibly disappointing. We were on the second level and could not see the stage. If we stood up and leaned over the railing, then we could see; otherwise, we could only see the tops of a few heads on the far end of the stage. If we stood up, we blocked others view. We left at intermission. I called the manager. In a condescending manner, she told me I should have read the frequently asked questions. So, just beware the upper level view (on the sides) is almost obstructed. We have decided against going back in January to see a Shakespeare play.

The Frontier Culture Museum is a great place and a must see! First thing, you can either walk the path or get a golf cart. We opted to walk it with a toddler and a stroller and ended up stopping and my husband ended up going up the path after Germany to get a golf cart so we could finish all of it. The interpreters at each location were all very knowledgeable and were able to provide much detail on each location and various activities. There are animals and my toddler loved that. She would go up to the fence and watch them. Germany was my personal favorite. The lady sitting in the Germany house was amazing and gave so much information about the times and how families would live. My husband liked new America and the two at the last houses were so knowledgeable and explained daily life in those time. This was a great place to go to and explore and your able to take your time and not feel rushed during your experience. We loved it and will be traveling back to visit.

Super fun outdoor museum with enthusiastic and knowledgeable staff and very cool original buildings. The museum is $12 for adults and has free parking. What I really appreciated was that there is an old world and new world exhibit where you can see from where many of the new world immigrants were from as well as the evolution of the houses in the new world. I liked that the vignettes of the houses included many places of the world including Africa and many European places. The museum also does a decent job of addressing the many dark and objectively bad things that happened during these times like the slave trade and wars with the Native Indian tribes. The museum was fantastic, with many cats and staff in period dress showing us their trades. I would definitely return next time I’m in Staunton.

I believe 2 hours would be adequate but 3 would be best. I was by myself at the end of the day in April. There was a costumed person at each stop. Dedicated folks. Wish I knew about golf cart rentals. Had no idea how large and far between things were. Shuttles mentioned but never saw except some bearded guy zipping around. Very hot day. I saw most things and almost made the church. Lady watering the job pen said the bearded guy would probably give me a lift.... Not. Anyhow the lovely gentleman working the garden area was starting exit and said he would get the interpreter's golf cart to help me out. Old lady, little service dog, red face. Great clues a ride would be helpful instead of an ambulance. Anyhow, the bearded guy hollered at him. Hmmm. Hope he didn't get in trouble.

Place is amazing. Had a great time. Get the golf cart or will be walking alot. Place is up kept and beautiful. The interpreters are very knowledgeable. Good for all ages. Can't praise it enough.

Awesome museum! You can explore the different houses and surrounding area of the different “countries” they set up along a long looped path. There’s also sheep, chickens, goats, pigs, and a cow spread out at the various sites; along with four very nice mouser cats.

Loved this museum. Perfect way to spend a cool Saturday morning. We did have personal guides in the form of the rescued cats that wander the grounds. The staff was very informative of their respective areas. Grounds are huge - lots of walking but if/when you get tired they do have shuttle golf carts to help out. Glad we stopped in.

We’ve been in the area for several years without visiting, so it was nice to finally see some of the museum! What a neat concept. We visited the new world side with an individual tour guide since it’s the winter model. I appreciated that it included a ride in a golf cart, because this could be a ton of walking!! I’d like to return in the non-winter season when the people are actually out on the property. Still need to see the old world part of things too! I think during the non-tour guide model, I’ll want to rent one of the golf carts unless I’m in the mood for some good exercise.

This was such a fun experience. It is a lot bigger than it appears from the highway. It took 2 hours and we did it kind of quickly. They have a golf cart to rent so you don't have to walk the whole thing. At each area there is someone to tell you about that era. The fella in the American Indian display was a wealth of knowledge. I would highly recommend this.

Beautiful property with tons of history and information. We chose to pay for a golf cart, mainly because the walk back is where the kids tire out. Worked out perfectly. Definitely recommend going when there's nice weather as it's all outdoor in-between exhibits. Super interesting and cool to see and hear how folks used to live hundreds of years ago.

The weather was perfect high 40’s, we walked most of the grounds. The staff was excellent in knowledge of each display from different countries of yesteryears! I would recommend this place for numerous reason, but mainly it was a great memory!

Top quality living history museum with something for all ages. Great place to take a stroll, admire the buildings and learn something from the staff. Be sure to go to their special weekend events, there's so much more to see and learn during those.

Fantastic! We loved the clothing display at the museum office and each area with real authentic buildings. We rented a golf cart for $25 and it made our visit even better. We lived listening to the interpreters and seeing the buildings and gardens and way of life. It is an excellent place for families and homeschoolers. We visited 3 timed from NC and will be back. Entrance fees are very reasonable. Love it!

This open-air museum was amazing! I thought it was just going to be American focused, but I loved how there were historic homes from other countries as well. I was able to spend 2 hours here with my 4-year old without her getting bored or antsy. There was so much to keep her entertained. She really enjoyed seeing all the animals as well!

This museum was amazing. The tour guide was great. He made it fun for the kids and kept them engaged throughout the whole tour. I highly recommend this museum and I highly recommend getting a golf cart which they have available for rent.

I've passed this place many times and wanted to stop by but time was always a issue. On a beautiful March day (today) I decided it would be a awesome time to visit. My wife and my two youngest grandsons made the trip over the mountain and made our way to the museum. What a awesome time we had. We rented a cart, and off we went to explore the past. There is so much to see and hear. My 6 year old grandson was full of questions and I was very pleased that the interpreters took the time to answer all of his questions on his level. Everyone we encountered were awesome. This museum is a must see trip. We purchased a yearly pass and are definitely looking forward to the next visit. We are even planning to bring a picnic lunch and just enjoy the beautiful outdoors.

Compared to Regan, Carter, or Bush Presidential sites, this stop in American history is modest in size and scope but also appropriate for the location’s place in Mr Wilson’s life for though he was born here, his family moved to Augusta, Georgia before he was two and where he would spend his boyhood during the war years. He would return to visit before his presidential term began and his second wife sought to remember his legacy of a progressive leader through supporting the preservation of his one-time home. Though modest, we found the exhibits well executed, the tour genuinely led, and the staff friendly and helpful. I was pleased to have toured and commend it to others seeking an introduction or greater information on this president who brought the popular election of senators into US politics, sought multiple popular reforms in politics and strived to keep America out of war but who now is known also as being an imperfect man of his era. Exhibits cover his parents, his marriage and devotion to both of his wives, time as an educator and writer and his terms of office. An exhibit on trench warfare brings home a taste of World War 1.

I'll be honest. I'm not a great fan of Wilson...but I learned a lot through this tour and got to see a little more into his character. The museum is not very big, but it comes with a tour of his birth home (the manse) and a well-informed guide to answer any questions. $15 might be just a bit high for this museum, but it was worth it for one visit. Plan on a half hour for the museum and a half hour for the tour.

Staunton is a quaint town off I81. This museum is small but informational. However, it cost $30 for the two of us to see the museum and adjacent house. It is handicap accessible, but difficult with wheel chair and no handicap access to lower level WW1 exhibit-which was a cool exhibit.. Tricky parking and really tight and difficult for handicap parking. They do not give a veterans discount, which is odd for historical museums of this type. Nice elderly woman guided us through house but seemed to rush us along. The town is worth the stop but the price is too high for this small museum.

This museum was interesting for those that are History minded. I would not suggest to stop unless you are already in the area. Also it is $15 per adult which I feel is over priced. Should be in the range of $10-$12 per adult.

They had a lovely tour of the house he was born in and then a very informative museum which focused on his presidency. The house tour could be an issue for people who struggle with stairs. Tour guide was very thorough and had lots of interesting stories to tell. The museum itself had a lot of information about Wilson's presidency and also about America at the time. They had a good exhibit down in the basement of a ww1 bunker with sounds that I believe were actually recorded at the time. Good exhibit....and I have visited actual WW1 trenches in Vimy Ridge.....so I can vouch for the athenticity of the work. The gift shop is very good. Quite extensive. The garden needs some work....but it does look like they are in the midst of some garden project which I hope will brighten that area up and make it a little more inviting. I only have one tiny complaint. When we were walking around the museum there was a meeting (an interview I believe) happening upstairs in what I presume were offices.....the voices really carried and it was a bit odd and a little intrusive. Maybe a closed door next time would be helpful.

Unfortunately didn't get to make it inside as the place was closing in half an hour when we got there. But it was cool to see the place from the outside and read any historical information they had on display. After viewing the place, made me read up more on Woodrow Wilson.

We didn't go inside, but walked around the outside of the buildings and garden area. Wilson's birthplace from 1859 well preserved for public education.

The home is a guided tour that takes about half hour. The museum is a self-guided area that would take quite a bit longer. The way that the WWI exhibit was made is particularly interesting. I liked how they tried to capture the feeling of being in the trenches. The staff was awesome. Knowledgeable, pleasant, and super helpful.

We splurged for the Behind-The-Scenes tour, arranging it ahead of time by calling and speaking to them, and fixing a date. In hindsight it was not expensive - it was WONDERFUL! We had what must have been four separate tours led by their various specialists, including the library as well as the house (Manse) and museum. We were able to ask as many questions as we wanted, and take our time. The curators, director and librarian planned some items out in advance to show to us as well. It was the highlight of our weekend in Staunton.

I very much enjoy going to Gypsy Hill Park because there is plenty of room to walk around and exercise plus play sports and the one thing I really enjoyed the most is going around the pond feeding the Canadian geese ducks and swans while admiring the cory fish.

Awesome experience. Loved the duck pond. Train was fun.

Thanks to a tip from a local we chatted with while visiting Downtown Staunton, we came here to look at the Tiffany stained glass windows from the outside. It was a Sunday and services were just ending and a few members of the congregation who saw us invited us inside the chapel to see them up close. It is a gorgeous church and I wish we’d known earlier as we would’ve come here to attend Sunday services at 8:00 or 10:15 AM. During weekdays, the church is open from 1:00 - 4:00 PM (M-F) for visitors.

A friend called me and said they were going to the Church for lunch. I was thinking it was the one across the street.i went in with them and it was quiet thought there were around 8 to 9 people seated. I went and got my tray and sat down. it was a nice lunch and I enjoyed it. The only thing that there me off the whole time was...None of the staff said a word. I even asked where do I put my cup of juice with juice still in it. No one said a word and I found that very..uncomforting. I mean this is a Church.

We went there for my grandson's high school graduation. Wonderful structure. Beautiful architecture.

This is a nice church with beautiful Stainglass.

Don't miss this gem with Tiffany windows, a locally built pipe organ, gorgeous architecture, a historic cemetery, and friendly members.

This is more than just a beautiful, historical church. It's also a place that actively feeds and clothes the underprivileged regularly, offering all kinds of support. The volunteers that dedicate their time, love, and compassion to the people in this community are absolutely fantastic. There is also a playground behind the church that is a very safe and quiet place. I wish I could give more than 5 stars.

Beautiful church. We were there for a concert of early music for harpsichord and forte piano. Acoustics were excellent and sight lines were very good.

Forgot my reason for the visit, but I do know that I was blessed.
