Nice to walk around and read the signs. Fun little activity to do on a sunny day with the family. The signs have cool information and shows lots of facts/people involved in Oregon Trail. Really awesome adventure to take 4th grader as the study the Oregon Trail in school. Sad that the center was closed. Would love to come back when it is open.

We visited this site spontaneously, as we drove by it, and it was great! We spent some time taking photos and looking in the gift shop. There are interactive elements in their museum, a few videos and other sites with the locations of the historic Oregon Trail to see too. We didn't purchase for the experience, but it looked cool and you can purchase tickets on-site. Bought a few things from the gift shop and we were on our way from there. Also there are events that happen here for all ages to participate in to have a fun time.

This museum & interpretive center stands at the end of this amazing 2000 mile long historic Oregon trail, which started all the way from Missouri and ended in Oregon City. The visit through the center itself could take a few hours through the three sections, each depicting a wagon from the outside. But it’s worth taking a short stroll along the outside. Coming out of the visitor center & gift shop, take right turns all the way around and keep continuing along towards the garden and main street side and you’ll get to the historic marker, designated end of the Oregon Trail, which is marked by two monuments. There are several flowers and herbs grown in the garden which are varieties the pioneers brought with them across the Oregon Trail. There is plenty of parking and there was no lines for entry to the museum. There was a private event going on in the garden side while we visited. Apparently there are outdoor concerts and events happening here especially during the Summer months.

This place is wonderful not a soul there besides animals. The museum is not open which is a bummer, but it is wonderful for a picnic and mini walk. The only thing is that we saw one homeless person.

My mom and I visited here since we both enjoy history. It was fun for both of us. The museum has a couple of easy hands on crafts making a candle, doll and journal. These crafts along with the short movie put a more personal experience on the whole thing.

Nice Park for Outdoor Concerts & Events, such as weekly Music in the Park and OC Art Festival during summer. Museum and interpretive center has some interesting stuff to look at as well as unique historical books for sale

Great final stop on an Oregon Trail trip. The staff were knowledgeable and very friendly. Definitely recommended.

I had been here as a child 23 years ago. I had fun memory of the place. When i visited this time i was less than satisfied. I enjoyed the hands on, self guided tour. There were many informative pieces and a cute 30 minute video. I givethis a 2 star review because we felt cheated and walked away from this experience incredibly frustrated. We paid for the inside, self guided tour, and the outside tour. The outside tour is a waste of money. First, we went to the meeting place for the tour to begin and NO ONE came out to let us know they decided not to do it. After 15 minutes i went inside to find out what was going on. The young woman i talked to was unprofessional and sarcastic with me. We came back to take the tour at the 3rd time block as we had already paid for this service and the woman who gave me attitude was our tour guide. She was unprofessional. I did not pay to hear her opinions or watch her sarcastic attempts at humor. It took 90 minutes and we could have done the walk in 20 minutes ourselves. Much of the "facts" she gave us was contradictory to the information we had read inside the museum. It is NOT worth the cost. If you are new to Oregon Trail history, do not waste your money on the guided tour. Additionally, this exhibit did not feel like a crucial historic place. It felt like a poorly maintained city park/tourist trap. It is probably great abd better staffed for school field trips. But insanely overpriced and under maintained for a historic location.

Nice and quiet today but has lots to see. Clearly a ton of history, a stage for concerts in the summer, a garden and across the street from Amtrak and Coaster Crossing. Has an interpretive center that is staffed with knowledgeable humans.

Very informative. Not to expensive and if you're looking for a free experience... there's displays outside that highlights the Oregon Trail experience.

This is a really cool place to learn some Oregon history. The park is nice and has a garden of native plants. I enjoyed my walk through it.

We stopped by here on a Sunday around 5:30pm and walked around and took pictures. The visitor center closes at 5pm on Sunday, so we didn’t get to go inside, but it was still neat to walk around outside. I grew up playing the Oregon Trail in school so I was excited to visit the site. Would recommend stopping here if you are close by!

Great interactive museum that tells the amazing stories of the pioneers and indigenous people of the area. I highly recommend visiting if in the Portland area.

I was just there with my kids on a field trip. The museum itself is great, with a lot of hands on activities available. However, myself and the other parents where disappointed in the tour. The guide was really nice, but did two lectures back to back. It was about an hour and a half long in total. They didn't even show us the movie. The kids did get to handle some furs, but it was far too much sitting for elementary students. We did get to make candles and butter, but nothing else. We asked if we could go through the rest of the exhibit that was skipped over, and where told we would have to pay AGAIN if we wanted to go back in! There were fifteen hands on activities that we didn't get to do, that we could have done if we had just gone not on a tour. They said they had a staffing issue, but it didn't make sense to not let us see the rest of the museum. We didn't get to look at anything else. There were plenty of chaperons, so we could have done the rest of the museum, regardless of staffing. Overall it was kind of a let down. It just felt like a money grab, especially because of course we could still go into the gift shop. I still recommended going, just not on a school tour.

Great fun, plenty of room to sit, shade or sun. Beer sold and allowed to drink on site. Food available, check for live music during certain dates, clean fun for all. Family friendly...

The river and the water falls is always spectacular to see.

The Willamette Falls is a natural waterfall on the Willamette River between Oregon City and West Linn, Oregon, in the United States. It is the largest waterfall in the Northwestern United States by volume, and the seventeenth widest in the world. The falls is a horseshoe shaped block waterfall caused by a basalt shelf in the river floor. The 40 ft (12 m) high and 1500 ft (457 m) wide falls occur 26 river miles (42 km) upstream from the Willamette's confluence with the Columbia River. Operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the lock was a four lock canal and was the oldest continuous operating, multiple lift navigation canal in the United States. The public can view the falls from viewpoints on the bluffs of Oregon City, from a signed viewpoint along Highway 99E, from the Oregon City Bridge, from a viewpoint on northbound I-205, or from boats in the river.

Not much to see for public, not worth to go at all. It is a private falls, not open to public access yet.

Shame on PGE, open the waterfall up to the people and stop gatekeeping a sacred location. This is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in North America and it's been cut off for hundreds of years first because it to force Native Americans away from their sacred grounds and now out of pure selfishness. It is a crime that such an incredible place is owned and clogged ny disgusting buildings. FREE WILLAMETTE FALLS.

Willamette Falls is the 2nd largest waterfall in the country (by volume) averaging 30,849 cfs. Beautiful at high water, or low. A staple attraction of our area!

I imagine it was much cooler before the power plant addition. As it is, it doesn’t impress much.

I went here because one of my kids is obsessed with elevators and both my kids enjoyed going up and down a couple of times . I can't say the view was incredible, the river is surrounded by horrible old factories . My understanding is that half of them will be demolished and they will hopefully build something more appealing. The very nice employee of the elevator recommended a little walk that gave us a better view of the river .

This is an old landmark of Oregon City. The lookout has been there far longer than the elevator. There are lenticular photographs depicting what was and how the local landscape has changed...some for the worse...such as waterfalls destroyed by manufacturing. They run along the breadth of the half circle, concrete wall. The view is beautiful at some angles. You can see the small bridge, built in 1922, from overhead. There are some concerning cracks and signs shoring up is soon needed in the floor but it appears stable for now. It is interesting to read how the elevator was originally steam powered and took over three minutes to ascend. There are also 722 steps you can take instead. I did the first time I saw this lookout. A smooth, wheelchair friendly, downward sloped ramp feeds pedestrians under the train tracks and into the face of the elevator. There is no cost to enter and sometimes there are people on hand for questions or to explain facts, such as dotted outlines depict what once was and no longer is, as well as telling you about the lady of the mansion who fought the elevator as it was built in front of her palatial abode.

Great historic place to visit. Excellent views and a nice walkway with benches along the way. The staff working at the top was very nice and helped answer questions.

Kind of cool they don't charge. Some old 3D like photos at the bottom and top that are historical. Take a walk along the promande to Williamette Falls overlook.

What an interesting landmark with very cool views of old town OC, the industrial area and the falls. We were meeting my SIL for brunch and she told us about the Municipal Elevator so we made a point of parking up on the hill so we could take it down. On the way back up we stopped and learned a bit of its history by Beverly, one of the lovely volunteers who work the desk at the top. Beverly even told me that as a child she accompanied her father to the dedication ceremony when the current tower opened in 1954! Thank you to Beverly and other volunteers who help to keep Oregon history alive. I’ve lived in Portland for more then 32 years and never knew about this area and now I want to go back and explore more!!

Decided to check this place out after dinner with my family. It is not kept very clean and the elevator gives you the vibes that make you want to carry your child and not let them touch anything. Still very very cool once you get to the top. It was a more impressive view than I thought it would be, very cool at night and recommend checking it out as long as you are not afraid of some dirt and germs.

Interesting elevator. Better to go to Watch the sunset and watch bats fly around. It’s actually pretty clean. The view isn’t spectacular but interesting enough. It is unique and the walk from it is nice. If you are in the Oregon city area this is a nice walk with the river view! Check it out!

Wonderful views and I liked seeing the history on how the building was being built on the land. Definitely want to revisit again sometime.

It’s a one stop elevator that offers views over Oregon City from the viewing deck. There is a little tourist information desk at the top also selling some nick knacks, guy tending it was very helpful and informative. We parked close by for free and used it going down and back up again.

Nicely laid out, great vendors, easy parking. The flower bouquets are bug and beautiful with $15-$25 price tag, great local ciders, fruit stands and unique veggies.

Great range of everything from liquor to produce to baked goods to various lunches!

Fabulous fresh and locally grown Fruits and Vegetables with a nice mix of music, several opportunities for kids to participate and made to order Food Carts. This market focuses more fresh produce than Jewelry or other non-edibles. They have a weekly Summer market on Saturdays and a Winter market every other Saturday.

Love this market! Have my handful of favorites I always go to, like Sun Love farms, and enjoy the rotating booths as well. So many amazing humans and delicious produce!

A little bit of everything is here! Oregon Artisans are well-represented here as an abundance and variety of goods are in this small-ish market. Fresh berries and breads and flowers being the main offering there’s also meats and cheese and fish farmers, artists and craftsmen to round out about 40+ vendors. Musicians performing too. It’s low key and a great location, plenty of parking.

It’s such a great farmers market! The flowers are the best and the live music is fabulous. We buy produce and pastries on Saturday to get the weekend started. You can get your knives sharpened while you wander. It needs to be on your list of hints to do on Saturday’s between 9-2 May-October!! It’s located up by the Public Service Building for Clackamas County.

Fantastic local Saturday market. Baked goods, coffee, live music, flowers, berries, fish, meat, crafts, and wonderful veggies. I highly recommend Coyote Ridge Farm (beautiful certified naturally grown veggies), Campfire Farms (excellent meats), and Grano (bread loafs). Plenty of parking. Great variety of displays hosted by helpful and informative vendors. They were extremely patient with all of my questions. Very family friendly and I found everything was very reasonably priced. What more could you ask for? Oregon City Farmers Market rocks!

Sara’s Tamales are the best! I go there just for her food. If you want real authentic tamales Sara’s is the place.

Oh my gosh so many good vendors! This spot has very unique vendors. I especially was excited to find Lions Mane mushroom being sold! This is a good one to visit in Clackamas County.

This is a freemason establishment that is deceiving the public. The two obelisks in front of the building are symbols of freemasonry. The gals at the front desk were aware of this when I asked if they knew that the museum was a masonic establishment. As we continued to chat, one of the staff members even tried to tell me that humans evolved from fish, not monkeys... I replied back and said those are both lies. Charles Darwin was also a deceiving liar freemason. “That is why I am here today, to sort out the lies and notify the public.” They have a few native artifacts on display with very little information about them. The story about the falls that is shown behind the petroglyph upstairs, is mockery towards the natives! The natives lived here for thousands of years before they were purposefully tormented and murdered. They were not incompetent dumb animals as these stories seem to suggest. The natives were highly intelligent and completely dependent on nature. The information shown at this museum does not tell the truth and does not show respect to those who were here before. It is a maze of deception with bits and pieces of the truth. I have been to every museum in the area and have had enough of the lies and freemason deception. Look up pictures of the Lewis and Clark exposition and old world fairs and other old world expositions. You will start to understand and look at things differently. Old world buildings are everywhere, Oregon city has plenty. The museums don’t show them openly though. Even the Oregon city elevator shows glimpses of old world buildings that are in the form of holographic pictures. A deceptive way of showing the old and new without being able to see the differences clearly. Hopefully this museum will redesign their space and showcase more of the people who lived on this land for thousands of years prior. Such as the Molalla Indians which were not mentioned at all in this museum. The past will not be forgotten especially the natives who lost their land, resources, family, culture, and lives.

Great displays that tie in well to the ever changing themes at this museum. Small enough to browse through quickly, enough detail to spend a couple of hours learning about the area around Oregon City and Clackamas County. Photos are part of the regular non-rotating exhibit. Old pharmacy items.

I walk this neighborhood often with my dog and life to go by the museum and the falls. I recently went by and saw a large group of Proud Boys attending some type of meeting. I was honestly SHOCKED that a local public museum would welcome a group that has such hateful and violent rhetoric towards our LGBTQ+ & BIPOC community. After the riots in Clackamette Park that resulted in a few of those members getting jail time for their violence, and then Oregon City Police not allowing them to reserve park space any longer I thought this city would be done welcoming violence.

Definitely worth a look as well as great views of Willamette falls.

This is basically the Oregon City historical society's museum, focused mostly on how indigenous groups used the falls and on local industry. The collection is small and mostly unimpressive.

A wonderful place to visit, my young daughter loved the topography sand box.

The museum itself is awesome. Unfortunately they exclusively use a caterer in for the Tumwater Ballroom who is sympathetic to alt right causes. Last night they held an event using Proud Boys as security. The Tumwater Ballroom lied to concerned community members and neighbors about the event being canceled, it still went on. Giving your money to the Tumwater Ballroom supports bigotry.

Great museum. If you are interested in Oregon history and Oregon City history this is the place. Beautiful views and interesting exhibits.

Always a fascinating place with outstanding park ranges and volunteers. The McLoughlin Memorial Association can Always use new members!

McLoughlin's home, saved from demolition by the McLoughlin Memorial Association and moved to its present location in 1909, was added to the National Park System in 2003 as a unit of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. The unit includes both the McLoughlin House and the neighboring Barclay House. Park staff and volunteers help keep it open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10 AM to 4 PM. Tours are free, and depart from the Barclay house located nextdoor, at the top of every hour.

If you love historical sites definitely recommend 👌 checking ✔️ out. He is the father 👨 of Oregon.

I really enjoy history, especially of the towns around Portland. We did a city walk with our family . Started at the McLoughlin house and walked Oregon City for four hours. Got Lunch at Singer Cafe and really enjoyed our day.

Every person on the west coast should pay their thanks to this man. He was essentially the first person at Fort Vancouver to look south and envision what Oregon and California for that matter would become. He did all this as a British citizen, only becoming a citizen of the United States in 1851. 1 year before he died. I don't know what you think of the British, but I do know what you should think of this guy if you live anywhere on the west coast.

A must stop for Oregon history. The local descents are very knowledgeable and entertaining.

It was a bit of a lackluster National Park. Not my favorite. Historic for Oregon for sure.

Interesting historical site in Oregon City, and annex to Fort Vancouver National Historical Site in Vancouver, Washington. The former home of John McLoughlin, Governor of much of the future United States northwest (and western Canada) for England's Hudson's Bay Company, the home is an interesting historical side trip. The docent on hand had a terrific knowledge of McLaughlin, the house, and Hudson's Bay Company history. It is only open for tours on Fridays and Saturdays, and only during the warmer months of the year. (They close the site for the winter, but you can still walk around the outside.) At the time of my visit, I was told they may be closing the house soon so that some restoration work can be carried out. They said the planned work, once started, will take several years to complete. I gave the site four stars because the structure is in desperate need of that renovation. But it was still worth the visit.

I was wowed standing in a historical house that my 5th great grandfather stood in asking John McLoughlin for advice before he signed the treaty of 1855. And the gift shop left me loving this pic of my 5th great grandma's brother chief Joseph. We truly need to value the history and historical places we have here. They truly are few. I left smiling and felt happy from this piece in our history here. By the way Ancestry DNA is awesome!😁😊 I also discovered that my 4th great grandparents were that indigenous chiefs daughter and a high ranking worker for the Hudson Bay company for John McLoughlin. 😀🙂So wow!

This place is a joke of a museum. There is practically nothing in the house that is original. They expect us to believe that just one horse pulled The McLoughlin house all the way up the hill to its current location….The ranger started to put the picture book away before showing me the last page. I said “hold up, I didn’t see that last page.” She showed me the page and I took the picture that is shown below. This is a place to hear stories not the truth.

Wonderful Oregon history. John McLoughlin is considered to be the Father of Oregon. Oregon City was chartered in 1844, the oldest city in the United States west of the Missouri River. San Francisco's plat map was certified in Oregon City!!!
