A firm 3 stars or even less. First issue was that it’s not a direct docking port. 20 minute shuttle ride from the ship to the port. And the water is normal rougher heading back to the ship later in the evenings. Now that’s an awkward, fun and angry experience depending on who you are and where in the shuttle you sit. Your face and all your contents could be wet in no time. Sorry for sounding so unfair because I am reviewing the port as a cruise passenger that docked there. For people living in and around the area, they might have a slightly different view. Because, the port do have a lot of restaurants to eat, bars, store, gift shops, micro businesses and more. I really dislike the fact that it’s hard to find the exit of the complex. Since the exit is where you’d find the local tour offerings and excursions that’s are not necessarily working with the ship but are highly trusted and recommended by the ship to use these services. That’s was a run on. I’ll say it again. I dislike the fact that the exit is hard to find. Cause the extra excursions and local services was located there. And that’s what I was looking for. Other ports have them more up in your face which is actually a good thing on a cruise. Other than that. The port wasn’t big at all. Quit small because of the location of the country. Great country overall. I will recommend anyone to visit. I’ll go again anytime.

We got to see a lot of very cool things in Belize. It is a beautiful place. Make sure you call a local tour company and eat the local food. You won't be sorry. Red beans and rice with chicken.

Visited one of most un-belizable place.... walk through cruise terminal enter in the downtown area. Safe for tourists. Belizian beer is famous...do give it try.

100 % recommend. The best part of our cruise was spending the day with Mel in Belize. She was wonderful. We got to see dolphins, monkeys, crocodiles, bats and a lot of iguanas. The lunch was delicious. Then we went to Altun Ha. The Mayan Ruins are magnificent ❤️ We're planning on going back.

Lots of variety, very friendly locals, good tour options. Must arrive very early to have the opportunity to book the best tour options, as the tours are further out and require a few hours to be able to participate in them.

The cruise ships anchor 5 miles from shore. Water shuttles will transport you from ship to shore, about a 15-minute ride. There are stores and restaurants in the tourist area. They even offer free passport stamps. There are swings along the walkway for the young and old to enjoy. Make sure you allow time for the shuttle back to the ship so you don't get left behind!

Haven't been to Belize since 2014. When we went then we had a snorkel and beach excursion from Royal Caribbean. Had a beautiful time then. This time I decided to explore the port and all it's shops. They have a ton of shops and just have to look around for better pricing. Some shops were highly priced while another with same merchandise was substantially less. There was a lot of buying going on by everyone. They also had a DJ with good music. Food flowing and drinks everywhere. Had a wonderful time. Also this port you have to tender I to. Meaning a smaller vessel come out to the ship your on and takes you by boat about 20-25 minute ride ashore. Saw some dolphins swimming as well. Smaller ships are not to bad waiting however I do believe bigger ships like Oasis class would be a nightmare waiting with so many people going ashore. My advice would be to do Serenade of the Seas. We didn't wait long at all going or coming back.

Lots of shops. Some good photo spots. You will have to take a tender (shuttle) from your ship. Beware, like most of the ports, you get alot of pressure from shop owners, tour companies, etc.

Loved it! Went on a Carnival Cruise and this place is beautiful! Spent a few hours walking the shops and bought drinks, coconuts, mango and chicharrones. Kids enjoyed the island!

This area is definitely a tourist trap with higher prices than other ports. But often the best shopping is in Mexico where you can bargain with vendors if you or someone you’re with speak Spanish.

The area is OK overall. Lots of tourist trap types of experience. My kids were saddened by the "junk" we bought they were told the jewelry glowed it was just cheap paint. Like most places, they try to get you asap. You gotta know how to say no and look around for a bit. Lots to do if you have a bit of time and go away from the main area.

Nice walk to excursions! I took a pedicab from the Regal Princess to the street where I found many options for excursions. I choose the float down the river through caves. This was a 1 hours drive to the river. There was a 45 minute jungle walk with 3 river crossings to get to the floating. Helmets, life jacket and big tube provided. You need sturdy water shoes for the hike and float!

I was able to experience this beautiful place because of the Carnival cruise line. The port was small but nice. We had to take a tender boat just to get off the ship. I'm not complaining, but it's not good if you are disabled. Again worth it we didn't do any excursions here, but we did tour the city of Belize and the Rum factor. The locals are kind and friendly They have plenty of shops to visit to purchase souvenirs. OMG the food and drinks were amazing. They also have plenty of photo spots. Nice small port of Belize, where you get dropped off by tender from your cruise ship. Lots of shops, but a bit pricey compared to shops outside. Don't get tempted to book your excursions inside the port village ( just check the price), walk outside and you can get them for half price, that is what I did and it worked out very well for us.

It's a sign folks but as far as going to signs go - this one is decent. It's on the coast so you get a great view of the coastline. No wait. There is a kiddie park for the little ones so they are never bored. If you're in Belize you might as well go and have fun.

Relaxing and scenic place to hang out alone or with friends to watch the Caribbean Sea, take pics or just talk. The last time I was there I saw a traditional fisherman throwing his net. Net came up empty [for the curious] so he walked a few yards down and deeper into the sea to try there.

Great landmark and good little Cafe across street. Unfortunately there are exceedingly rude staff from BTB taking up two and 3 parking spots illegally as well as taxis doing the same thing. Very rude.

Cool place for pictures. The playground and area around is kinda run down. But you can still get a nice picture with the ocean in the background.

This monument sign was smaller but the walk was good along they trail. There's a small, great restaurant to try on the water. Need to try!

Looks amazing with the background. Make sure the sky is clear so you get the amazing background when you pose for pictures. Climbing the rock letters with a suit on is very hard lol

This is a very beautiful place . We were able to take a couple of pics, It wasn't crowed so it was nice. My very first time here and we were lucky enough to enjoy the good weather and the beautiful food around. The place is very calm, so it's very relaxing and it offers a beautiful view.

It's the perfect tourist attraction and place for children to play. It can be romantic if you have a partner who would walk the promenade with you. You may leave with a smile and some iconic pictures.

Gustavo the Bossman in charge was extremely helpful. Upon arrival to the ferry station I wasn’t sure if it was the best one for us to take. He ensured us that it was. After purchasing my ticket to board, I realized I had lost my phone. He was able to contact our cab driver that picked us up at airport and locate my phone which I had accidentally left in his car. Something told me not to panic and go talk to Gustavo. I’m so happy I came in contact with him and was able to retrieve my cellphone. That is great service. The ferry ride was a little long but very nice to see and relaxing.

Horrible experience. Got left on the wrong island, there were lines for San Pedro and Caulker so we go on the boat with the San Pedro line. Just off the plane, last ferry of the day and people were packed in like sardines. No one said anything about multiple stops or which island we were on. We had to find lodging for the night on the wrong island and pay for a new ticket even though we had round trip ones. After discussing with the front desk we were called liars and that it wasn't possible to have made a mistake. I reached out to hr and never recieved a response. I'd never use this taxi service again and neither should you. Read the other reviews. They are greedy and bad customer service.

Do not use this service if you are on a rigid time schedule. Bought 4 tickets to Caye Caulker from Belize City. We stood in the boarding line, and as they announced boarding, 15 minutes late, about 40 men that all appeared to be construction workers came along the side and cut in front of us. As we got to the gate, they announced that the boat was full. We had to wait another 20 minutes for another boat. Depending on which boat you get (there are several shapes and sizes) you may either have a smooth comfortable ride, or the exact opposite. We actually made it to San Pedro before the original boat that was full. Had to wait 30 minutes for our luggage. Took the service from Caye Caulker to San Pedro 2 days later. We were the only travelers with luggage - we saw it on the cart on the side of the dock as we were boarding the boat. Upon arrival at San Pedro, we had no luggage. They did not load the luggage on the boat. When I pointed this out, one of the workers showed me a picture of our luggage on his phone and asked if that was our luggage - so apparently they were aware they left it. They told me I could come back in 1-1/2 hours to get our luggage. WT"? I told them they needed to deliver the luggage to our hotel - which they did. Not a good experience. If you're on a budget, it's the cheapest way to get to the islands, but that comes at a cost...

I paid in advance online for airport pick up from BZE, and a one-way ticket to San Pedro. I was told by email that someone from their company would be waiting for me outside the airport with my name on the sign. When I arrived on time, there was NOBODY waiting for me. I was getting worried because I do not get cell phone signal in Belize and therefore I couldn’t call their office. Almost 1 hour later I saw a driver with their company van arriving to pick up other passengers. I walked up to the driver and he found my name on the list. I was able to take that shuttle and it was a comfortable trip to the ferry terminal. After that everything went smoothly, I was actually able to get on an earlier ferry than the one I scheduled and it was a nice pleasant ferry trip to San Pedro. The ferry was nearly full but there were seats available. No complaints about the ferry itself, but I was surprised that they were a little disorganized with regard to the airport pick up.

The seat arent as compy but they are good. I love traveling early morning so that i can get to see the sunrise its just beautiful. They also have upstairs and downstairs

We've used this water taxi about 4 times and we've had a good experience every time. They arrive and depart pretty much on time. The boat is always clean. The ride is smooth. No complaints really. My only advice for travelers with flights that same day: Give yourself plenty of extra time .You don't just hop on the taxi and hop off. You have to wait for luggage to unload, find your driver, ect. Just give yourself an extra hour or more. But otherwise it's a breeze every time. Lastly, I want to mention that the staff is always really helpful and friendly. I had to make last minute adjustments to reservations and the customer service was great.

My boyfriend and I booked a cab and water taxi to get us from the Belize International Airport to San Pedro. We had absolutely no issues and everything was set up very smoothly. The driver was waiting for us outside the airport with our name on a sigh. The van was air conditioned and the driver made an effort to teach us about the wildlife and the culture of the area during our journey to the ferry. Once we arrived, the checked our luggage for us and lead us to the office so we could pick up our tickets. The ride over on the ferry was windy and there were a lot of people (as expected). I would not say that it was overly uncomfortable. We felt safe and their was access to life jackets in case of an emergencies. I really wanted to write this review because a few days before we were ready to leave for our trip I was reading some really nasty and scary reviews that literally made me lose sleep. NO NEED TO LOSE SLEEP, this company was organized and everyone was friendly and helpful. They were also secure as you had to show your luggage ticket in order to get your luggage back or identify an item inside if you lost your ticket.

The boat was filled beyond capacity. We were stuck in the middle of the ocean. They had to have a second boat come to the middle of the ocean to take passengers in order to reduce the weight so we could make it to the other port. During the confusion my luggage was damaged. I was told that the manager was off today, They refused to give me a number or email address. They said they were not responsible for luggage. DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE!!!!

Really helpful- booking the van transfer for the airport was a must, and even with delays and a date mixup on my ticket, they got us where we needed to be. Very cool ferry terminal, lots of shops and a few bars restaurants too, boat ride was BEAUTIFUL and smooth. Easy, affordable and stress free way to get to the islands! Thanks so much team!!

We had a great experience with the SPBE water taxi. We were a group of 12, so I booked via email in order to get the group discount. This was fine but there was some miscommunication at first when I was checking in (they thought I was at the wrong water taxi terminal). We sorted it out quickly and everything was good, just something to keep in mind if you book via email. It seems like it's a different system than their regular booking. The ride to Caye Caulker was easy and quick; same with the return trip. We all rode on the top deck and were very comfortable. The terminal area is very large with lots of little shops (pretty much everyone had forgotten something, so this was very helpful!), food places, and a coffee shop and bar, so we were well entertained while waiting for the boat. The entire process was easy, not to mention MUCH cheaper than flying Tropic Air. Traveled in November 2021, 12 people in group, water taxi to Caye Caulker and back three days later.

Great way to get to San Pedro and Caye Caulker. Round trip tickets today were $37.50 each. Luggage is accepted so no worries if you're staying a night or two. Caye Caulker is about a 30-45minute ride and San Pedro is about a 90 minute ride. Use the bathroom before you get on board the taxi. Go to The Last Cup cafe near the ticket office, buy up a coffee and you can use the bathroom without paying the $1 public restroom fee. The smaller boats with the fiberglass tops can get rather hot during the summer. Be prepared and take some water along with you. The larger boats with soft tops are a little more open and a little cooler. If you found this review helpful, please hit the like button.

Traveling to CHETUMAL? READ THIS FIRST!!! The ferry says it leaves at 8:30am and arrives at 10, but that is 10am Belize time, 11am Mexico time. And realistically it takes MUCH LONGER! After the boat ride and clearing customs, we did not clear customs until 1pm!!!! If you are taking the ADO, I would recommend booking a 2:30 or 3:30pm bus, to not feel rushed and have some time to eat before the long ride!! Ride itself was great, ferry was clean, good seats, and not a bumpy ride. Would definitely recommend, but plan your time accordingly!! Not sure why they lie on the website??!

It was like the many other ruins you find in area. This one is in the middle. There are bigger and there are smaller. If trying to decide which one to visit, this is good choice. If limited on time, you can do this and something else all in 1 day. We were on a cruise and did this and cave Tubing through Royal Belizean Adventures (a local tour group).

This is a historic site that can be easily gotten to for disabled people. If you are able to climb, I highly recommend going to the top for the view! An archeologist excavated part of this temple and found the remains of some of the royals. They were buried with jewels which would allow the totals to keep their stature in heaven.

A really cool area to see some well maintained Mayan ruins. We spent about an hour there and saw all that's available. A couple short but steep climbs to get to tops of temples. We stopped here early before heading to airport which was perfect amount of time we thought - if you're staying in the southern part of Belize it probably isn't worth a full day trip.

First Mayan Ruins and would go again. It is a beautiful location and a non strenuous adventure. Our tour guide Wallace from Belize Exotic adventures was amazing and informative! He even helped with photos and told us to take as much time as we would like! It was not busy in the morning at all we had the place pretty much to ourselves.

This was one of the best hikes I’ve had. Just looking at these ancient wonders was remarkable. I would recommend waking up early and being one of the first because it gets full. I suggest climbing the pyramids to have a better view and definitely take the walk to the hidden lake just looking at the foliage is like a jungle like feeling. I climb all of them and took many pictures. This is a must go to spot as soon as you get to Belize.

Impressive Mayan site. Easy access for people who can't get around as much as they used to. Very clean. Our guide was fantastic. We enjoyed learning about Altun Ha. I did climb to the top of the Sun Temple, but it wasn't easy. There are railings to hold on to but, I kept thinking....what if I fall?

Truly epic!!! It felt like I was stepping back in time. Our tour guide was from the area and answered all our questions and gave an awesome retelling of history. 10/10 recommend. Wife said it was better than Talum.

Visited this place in august which was off season and we were the only ones there! It’s not a huge place so not much walking. You can climb up some of the temples, really cool. It’s so hot so be prepared with water. Bring BUG SPRAY. They sell some there but probably at double the price. So many bites. $5 usd per person to enter. No time limit. We quickly saw it all in about 45 minutes, but you can go with a guide and learn about it all it can take a lot longer. Some nice souvenir shops around. Very clean bathrooms!

You can climb the temples. I came on a tour and it was very informative learning about the Mayan history. The steps are steep though so maybe bring some comfy shoes and not flip flops. It’s also very hot so being sunscreen

Altun Ha was amazing. The energy there was magical. Our tour guide was the grandson of the man that discovered the Jade Head and he was both informative and entertaining. I will definitely be going back again.

Very beautiful, relaxing and grand experience. We went in July, it was extremely quiet. Cheap to get in, very clean and well kept. The ruins were stunning, especially the large sun temple. Few stalls to buy knickknacks outside and a couple spots to get food after. 100% recommended

Beautiful location, one of the cleanest Mayan sites in Belize. Road to it is mostly paved as well which makes it more accessible than other sites. Worth the detour off the highway

Great experience. Amazing history and impressive designs/ architecture. The landscape is well kept. Lots of flies but ir was no problem. It was expected. Our tour guide was very informative and answer all questions presented. The store/ shopkeepers all will want you to purchase items but all items are overpriced by at least three times its original BZ cost. They will want Dollars. In some cases i notice 4 times expensive. And i understand that they want to make a profile but you will feel worse when you get to a store in the city and find the item you bought dor 10 Dollar is really 5 BZ ... The experience overall was great.

I love visiting Altun Ha. We were surprised and didn’t know that it is free for Belizeans on Sundays. That was a plus. Several little gift shops to choose from. A couple of the ruins had ropes that we couldn’t clime. The weather was extremely hot when we visited. I suggest taking a backpack with water. We did get water right at the entrance though. Was a nice family trip.

Interesting to compare this larger (wider) lock compared to the original lock that we passed through in our cruise ship. Original lock had small tug-trains to pull the ship compared to the larger lock using only large tugboats to assist the large container ships.

Alton ha is a small Mayan site in Belize. The ruins are well maintained. The site is only small because a small portion is only excavated and is available to public. If you want to understand what those different buildings were all about , it’s recommended to hire a knowledgeable guide. It’s possible to complete a tour of the complex within a couple of hours

Altun Ha is a well-maintained ancient Mayan ruins. There are several very tall structures that can be climbed safely and easily. The views from the top are fabulous! You only need an hour or so to wander around and climb if you would like.

Altun Ha was amazing! It was so mesmerizing looking at all the Mayan architecture and feel the spiritual energy surrounding you. It was truly an experience of a lifetime. Visiting has inspired me to go visit other ancient Mayan Ruins. Our tour guide was Onofre and he was superb! Very knowledgeable about the area and the surroundings of Belize city.

Park, souvenirs shops, toilets were more than ok. Museum is great, its in English so it is easy to understand history of those Mayan buildings. No words for Altun Ha piramides - great. Tour guide was also great and helpful, ready to answer on all questions.

Nov 15, 2023: Visited the Altun Ha Ruins as an excursion offered through Carnival Cruise Line. It is located about 50k/30mi out of Belize City (the 45-ish minute bus ride is worth it). Upon entering the actual grounds for the pyramids, I felt a sense of calm/groundedness - I am really unable to convey the feeling as I have never felt it before. I was able to ascend and descend the multiple ruins fairly easily; it would be difficult for someone with a weak gait and if you utilize a wheelchair/buggy I do not think most of you would be able to access the top of the ruins. PLEASE NOTE that if it is raining the stairs are extremely slippery and they do NOT allow you to climb the ruins at that point (it started raining when we were about to leave, and while I was coming down one of the ruins I slipped a little). This is was my first experience with any type of ancient ruins and it certainly did not disappoint. As with any commercial travel area the vendors do try to hustle you, but I simply stated I was not interested with a firm "no thank you" and kept moving - there is no need to allow it to negatively impact your entire experience/rating.

This ancient site is just amazing. Our guide was full of knowledge and clearly as a connection to the site and its importance in Mayan culture and trade. The unique location relatively close to the coast and the artifacts discovered at the site are fascinating. I highly recommend a visit if possible. Additionally, this site is not fully excavated with the oldest section still to be explored. I look forward to hearing about future excavations and the knowledge that will be gained.

Loved the history of it!!! YES you get to climb the ruins if it's not raining. 45 minute bus ride, a few hours to explore and lunch on the way back. I highly recommend this excursion!!!

Stay away from the food /snack areas.. Would have been 5 stars.. if the snack people weren’t such swindlers ..at one point I didn’t know who I was buying from they need to get it together. Took away from me and our friend’s experience. They will try to rip you off. Very grassy Mayan Ruins. No Cenotes or Bodies of water around.

It moves much faster than the other company that's what I like about it but what I don't like is sometimes the music played is not family friendly (talking about some of the Jamaican music)

They gave me a good price to San Pedro, no hassle or struggles. The trip went as planned. I was a little bit worried at first due to some reviews but I can attest to their service being legit.

We site show $25 per person they actually charge $46 I asked why and they said the web site is not updated. Other ferries are $33. Not the deal it looks to be when planning your trip.

Vary nice, local artists, and historical including slavery.. While waiting for the the door to open. We were early. The guard explained a lot about the culture and slavery. Everyone knows who Abraham Lincoln is in Belize.

Interesting and laid-back museum about local cultures, primarily the Garifuna but also other groups. Has a gallery devoted to the history of the Atlantic slave trade, and another on the history of piracy in the Caribbean, and their affects on the cultural and political formation of Belize. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It’s the sort of place you might take a classroom of kids, but of course is educational for adults who are unfamiliar with Belize’s history. They have special exhibits sometimes.

Brilliant display of history, art and culture. It's brief, it took me no more than an hour but it's very worth visiting. The staff were really welcoming and helpful.

The museum had an array of interesting exhibitions. Slavery in Belize, The history of the former prison that the museum is in, Different types of traditions, An art exhibition by a local artist, Beautiful birds, and An insect exhibition underway. They were all very interesting, and there is something for everyone. To me, however, the most interesting part was about slavery. It always blows my mind how awful our history is, and how we always find ways to justify why we do the things we do. How there's very often someone who for one reason or the other think they are more important and more valuable than someone else. Even though we are all human beings, equally important, since we are all needed no matter what part we play in society. It's the type of exhibition that isn't uplifting, instead it makes you think. And to me that's imperative if we are ever going to learn from our past. I also had the privilege of bumping into one of the employees a few times and she gave me a more in-depth experience and understanding of what it was like, so if you're able to get a guided tour or have someone to ask all the questions you are left with I urge you to grasp the opportunity. No photos were allowed, hence the pictures of the building. I highly recommend a visit to the Museum of Belize if you're in the neighborhood.

Welcome to Belize! Like everything else, you have to see it to Belize it! This is a small museum and in some need of repair, but it does give a strong sense of the slave trade that helped form Belize. So if you are looking to see Belize from a historical perspective, definitely worth a stop.

The first floor had relevant history. The history was told in an easy to follow layout with interesting displays to keep your interests. The second floor had art. The paintings had incredible colors. Definitely the WOW factor! I recommend visitors and locals to visit the museum. As a visitor, I would go to the museum each time I visit Belize.

Not an archeological museum displaying artifacts of pre-columbian Era. Rather, a facility providing Belize history post Columbus. Also serving as an art museum. Understood that archeological section of museum damaged during last hurricane. Hopefully, the relics of the past will someday be on display during my next visit.

Great experience and I learned a lot. Super nice staff and great displays of national history and culture. There was zero Myan information which I found very odd. To me this is a HUGE omission. But, this stop is still worth the time!

There is not much else to do if you get stuck in Belize City. You can get lost in here for at least 30 minutes for $7 us. A little info on slavery, the building use as a jail previously, a local artists painting, and a corner of local birds that have been hit by cars.

It's a small yet well laid out museum inside an old prison. It's focusses on the slave trade and the economic development of the region from the 1700s onwards.

The Museum of Belize was built in 1857 and served as a colonial prison until 1993. The Museum of Belize was opened in 2002. A must do! There are quite a few amazing artifacts to view. Guaranteed you will learn something you didn’t know before!

Amazing museum with a great special 20th anniversary exhibit of works by Belizean contemporary artist (also a musician) Pen Cayetano. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff as well.
