Beautiful site. Take your water shoes and protection for your phone if you want to climb the rocks towards the basin. Papa is the fall on the left and Mama on the right. Based upon other reviews I started to climb by myself up the rocks and got pretty far. However, I'm 58 and although I think I'm in pretty good shape. A guide named Golden (23 yrs old) came and helped me. It was well worth it (your discretion on tip--I gave him 50 XCD) as he knew all the spots and was very helpful and mindful of all the hazards. Trail starts up the left side. Kind of hidden of course. It was a great experience especially at the top where the warm geothermal water and the cool river water mix.

Very lovely falls and was almost deserted when I visited in early October. Small souvenirs sold at the entrance and a steep road getting up there. Lots of parking. A few minutes walk down a marked path was very easy to follow and leads to a viewing platform. The falls are gorgeous, though it seemed too rocky to swim or get into the water. Believe a rock slide buried the pools and baths that used to be at the bottom. Still worth a quick visit. Very peaceful and majestic.

What is better than two falls for the price of one? Nothing. Amazing views. Need a site pass if you're not local

Trafalagar Falls was my favorite waterfall on the island. Getting to see a side by side waterfalls that were both unique was really fun. The hike to falls was easy enough and a really nicely maintained path. Once you get down to the falls you can go explore out of the rocks and you get to see so much more! So many little pools and streams are hidden amongst the rocks, I really suggest it. There were guides that you could hire to take you to the pool of the actual falls. We didn't realize that til we were already out farther exploring and saw them coming down or we would have tried that too. But you can still make your own little adventure between the falls. The view of the valley is pretty stunning too! Just wear appropriate shoes. The rocks in places were slippery!

Awesome tourist location, but be careful climbing the rocks though. Some of the rock are slippery some are sharp and you will definitely regret falling.

Five minute walk to the falls up hill. Not hard and worth the effort, beautiful falls and great view of the massive jungle surrounding the waterfalls.

Beautiful twin waterfalls. The path is made well but it is a gradual but long climb with steps. Take your time and enjoy the view from the platform at the end. It will get busy.

Beautiful falls with a tiny pool that you can dip your feet into. Some tried to swim but the water level was very low. Even without proper rain in a bit, the falls were beautiful. The walk is maybe 10 minutes or less, and it's paved and not slippery, but there are a few steps. It's perfectly manageable for the majority of folks, and I walked in sandals which were perfectly comfortable. The entrance building has a small bar with drinks, bathrooms, and a room with signs about geology and wildlife. We came here as part of a tour.

The twin waterfalls at Trafalgar Falls near Roseau, Dominica, consist of long skinny Papa Falls and short plump Mama Falls. Papa Falls plunges 38 meters into a deep gorge while Mama Falls is 23 meters high. Trafalgar is the most popular of the 12 larger waterfalls on Dominica and the viewing platform is often crowded as it's just a 10-minute stroll from the ticket office. The rules and regulations of the park are spelled out on a signboard at the entrance to the park.

Breathtaking! A short walk in the jungle (5 minutes on gravel and a few stairs) will bring you to a gorgeous waterfall with a small "pool" where you can bathe (water is cold but so worth it)!

This was a very picturesque place. The air is crisp and clean. There is a charge of EC$14 for entry. There are a few trails that take you to spectacular views.

We stopped by during a good rain, it absolutely worth seeing but you definitely are going to swim and it's not emerald.

Dominica is so lovely with its natural beauty. Visited Emerald Pool and I loved it. The water is cold but once you get it, you do not want to come out. Very simple but nice visitor/ interpretation centre and a nice walking path with railings down to the waterfall/pool. It takes about 10-15 mins walk.

Beautiful pool and waterfall. The trail is well-managed and paved, fairly flat, not slippery (it did rain while I was there), and the steps are perfectly manageable. It took 10 minutes to walk, and the tour guides were around to assist older folks if they needed it. The platform is large enough to suit many people and there are tour guides who can take photos of you. The pool is cool and refreshing, and you have the option of walking up behind it. There is a little cafe with drinks and bathrooms and a room that tells you about the geology and history of the area.

Beautiful place to visit. Short walk to the falls and pool. I would bring a swimsuit so you can get it. Suggest water shoes as rocks in some places are slippery. This is a must visit. Try to avoid cruise ship days or go early those days and it is less busy.

One of my favorite spots in the area. Clean clear waters that are great for a swim. Lots of parking and some small souvenirs sold near the lot. This site is protected under UNESCO so you'll need to buy a government pass, either EC$5 for a single visit or EC$12 for a week pass, able to visit multiple sites. A quick 10 minute walk down a marked path. Very easy and peaceful walk until you reach a few wooden platforms at the base of the falls. Easy to step into the water and you can also walk up pretty close to the falls and behind the falls.

This rainforest is a truly amazing place! The water is so refreshing to swim in. I definitely feel younger, and the waterfall force gave the best back massage ever! So beautiful .

Easy walk highly recommend it for families and small children the whole trail is paved, if you don't mind a few stairs this is a great hike for the whole family.

Go early! This is an easy 15 minute walk to the waterfall. The cost is 5 usd per person, but if you do more than three sites of the island, you better get the weekly pass for 12 usd. Emerald Pool is a MUST visit when in Dominica, beautiful UNESCO heritage site. Put on your bathing suit at the main entrance and do enjoy the refreshing water of the fall. Also, once inside Emerald Pool, on the right side you will see what looks like a natural kids pool where the rocks are brick red, and it's because of the sulfur, get in there and put some sulfur on your skin!! You will look younger in seconds! (You welcome 😆!!!)

The Emerald Pool is a beautiful pool under a waterfall. Cool clear water. Do get there early or on the first bus off your cruise as it's best with minimal people and does get very crowded. Remember, leave no trace. Don't stack rocks or carve things in the rocks.

I’ve hiked all over the world and this was my favorite ever! We arrived at 7am and reached the lake at 10. We stopped to have brunch at the lake and then stopped in a hot pool with a waterfall on the way back. Best bath/shower combo ever! The wild orchids and dense plants were full of color. The Island of Dominica is so clean, I did not need to pack water there are delicious fresh water rivers and streams all over. We reached the exit at 12:30pm and then swam up the Titou Gorge. I cannot stress enough that you MUST swim up this gorge. It is a long channel with high walls. When you reach the powerful waterfall at the end (you swim right up to it) the sunshine filter through gorgeous vines and flowers dripping down from the high sculpted smooth cliff walls. All of this & the hike is free. Free life jackets are provided. I recommend going with a guide as the boiling water can be dangerous. Nigel George of Calibishie took me and he was full of knowledge about the plants and island. He was also a lot of fun. His rates were quite low.

Incredible hike mixed terrains and beauty all around ! Not an easy hike through mud and rivers and streams .. up and down but well worth it

Here is a few things everyone should know before heading boiling lake. Above of all you must know that it's a 10km hike and you will climb up to 800m (maybe a bit more). Though I hiked for weeks in the Manaslu National Park in Nepal and Tongariro in New Zealand, among other places in France, boiling lake is by far (for now) the hardest hike I did in my life. - A guide is recommended but not really useful as many hikers will be there when you arrive. So excepted if you're alone, I'd much recommend to be accompanied otherwise it's not necessary (and you will save some bucks). - If a guide picks you up from Roseau it should not be higher than between 75 and 80$US by person, if you're alone they might charge double (150$US). If they are charging you more, pass your way and find someone else or negotiate. 80$US can still be negotiated if you're more than 2 people. (Always negotiate prices in Dominica). - About the difficulty: beware as it's a VERY VERY difficult hike! Not made for kids at all (do not even try or think about), neither it's made for people in bad or fragile health conditions. This hike requires a lot of techniques and a lot of efforts : it's almost only climbing and stairs in the mud for 3hours on the way to go, and over 1 hour climbing on the way back still in the mud. Most people can make it in 6 hours but it can take up to 8 hours according to your pace. - Once you're aware about that, charge the battery of your camera, take a waterproof backpack (much recommended, it may rain), bring a nice picnic, wear your swimsuit, buy a juice to the ladies at the entry of the Mornes Trois Piton National Park, and be ready to be amazed by the landscape you will meet while hiking! Don't forget to take a hot bath on your way back, you will really appreciate it before climbing back ! And of course don't forget to jump into Titou gorge as a reward once you reached the parking you came from in the morning ! Last advice, you should absolutely NOT leave after 9:30am at the LATEST otherwise you may comeback by night which is very dangerous as the path is damaged and difficult. 7:00am would definitely be my best recommendation if you want to take your time and be sure to back on time or early. Enjoy your trip, be ready to have harmful muscles the day after 😁 !

Long hike, amazing views .

This is one of the toughest hikes I've ever done...but so worth it! There is a lot of up and down! I can't emphasize this enough! You will get wet and muddy, so wear something you don't mind ruining- I still haven't gotten all of the mud out of my leggings. It was a rainy, windy day when we did it and I was so glad to have a hiking stick. It's not just hiking, you will be using your arms too(see pics). We hiked with local guide Chadi Symes (IG @chadi.767treks)and he was terrific!! Not only is he so much fun, but also very knowledgeable about the flora & fauna of the island.

One of the best hikes ever. Our guide from Dominica extreme, Berani, made it such a fantastic experience for us. Smart, funny, open and super helpfull (i suddenly got knee pain during the hike and 5 seconds later Berani fixed me a walking Stick which helped a Lot). Would definitly reckommend to do hiking or canyoning with the crew from dominica extreme. 5 Star Service.

This was a fantastic, albeit truly exhausting hike. Well worth it though, the views were stunning and getting to the lake and seeing the boiling cauldron was so cool. A few things to note: Despite the STOP TRAIL CLOSED sign: It is not closed While you DO NOT need a guide, if you have the budget for one, you should get one, I did, help the local economy. If you are backpacking and on a budget, don't. I've seen a lot of posts either here or others that shame people with " if you can afford a trip to Dominica, you can afford a guide." For the every day luxury traveler, that might be true, but I have been a backpacker before, and if it the $85-120 per person guide fee isn't in your budget and you are fit, then do it on your own. Enjoy, it was a great experience .

Guide definitely recommended, as hurricane induced landslides means the latter part of the trek is along the river bed. This is a pretty tough trek, made more challenging by the heat, humidity and at times strong wind and rain. 7 hours (for us) including various stops along the way, so start early. Well worth the effort as the views are stunning. Come prepared with good shoes, waterproofs, walking sticks, food and water. There is a natural spring just beyond the valley of desolation which we refilled from and can vouch for (no adverse effects)! On return the ladies should be there selling cold drinks, snacks and sorted souvenirs. I hope so, as you'll have earned it!!

This was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen/done. 10/10 if you like hiking you must at least try to do this. It was one of the harder hikes I’ve done and I’m a moderate-experienced hiker, but we made it there and back with many stops in about 7 hours with no problems. You MUST go with a guide. Do not try and attempt this on your own, because you will get lost and potentially hurt. We went with guide Roine (works with Alain of @Alaindominicatours who offers tours) and he was amazing. We learned so much about the landscape, plants, history, and culture. He also took some pictures for us so we could really soak in the moments. The hike itself was beautiful (so again even if you don’t make it all the way it’s still worth a try!), with streams and rivers, lush jungle, and incredible mountain and valley views. You will get wet, muddy, and tired. Bring water and snacks, and a hiking stick if you like (I usually don’t bring hiking sticks but it really helped with this hike). There are stairs at some places, but once you reach the peak and start heading toward the valley of desolation you will start walking through rocks (and it gets steep!). But just take your time and you can do it. The lake itself was insane, pictures don’t do it justice, and I can say with certainty that it was the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. A must do for visitors of this beautiful island.

A friend and I were visiting Dominica for a week and as it's dubbed 'The Nature Isle' we just knew that a hike to the Boiling Lake was on the agenda. Sadly my friend got food poisoning so I had to go it alone... Upon finding Chadi's details online (@chadi.767treks on Instagram, Chadi Symes on Trip Advisor) he seemed like a good guide and I decided to book with him. BEST DECISION EVER. I arrived alone and straight away Chadi came over to me with the biggest smile on his face 'Hello! You must be Christina!' What followed was the best 6/7 hours of my whole trip. Chadi is incredibly knowledgeable and has a real passion for what he does. I remember him telling me that growing up as a teenager his peers would ridicule him over his passion for nature, but now he gets to see the smiles on peoples faces after every single one of his many treks and that this fills him with a great sense of pride. I've travelled extensively over the years and met many different guides but none have stood out to me as much as Chadi. I actually took this particular tour some time ago now and we still keep in touch since I arrived home. Chadi's personality is so infectious and his love for what he does is so apparent. The hike was no easy feat, with steep inclines, rocky streams to cross and different terrains to navigate but Chadi made sure everyone was doing ok and kept us safe at all times. We painted our faces with berries and natural mud, boiled eggs in one of the springs en-route and took in some incredible views/stunning scenery. The whole time Chadi was relaying information about the biodiversity within the area, his knowledge was staggering. At the end of the hike we had the chance to cool off with a dip in Titou Gorge - it was freezing at first but once in, swimming through the middle of the high cliffs felt incredible. I truly hope to be able to visit Dominica again and the first thing I'll be doing is booking another of Chadi's tours. I simply cannot recommend him enough.

Beautiful and varied walk that transports you away from the normal, balmy jungles of Dominica to a blustery and foggy oasis. Due to a miscommunication I wore beach attire on this walk and initially was regretting this choice, however, after a brisk start I quickly was happy in shorts and a t-shirt. I also did not have any appropriate footwear and undertook the entire walk barefoot. Overall the walk provided sweeping views of the valleys surrounding freshwater lake and panoramic views from inside the clouds.

Beautiful. Concrete steps and railings...about 76 steps down to falls. Large flat uneven rocks from bottom of stairs about 25' to the falls. You can swim. Not an easy ingress or egress, but refreshing. Worth the effort! Recommended.

Very beautiful waterfall just a few minutes walk from the roadside. The falls are private so you must pay a fee to enter, believe it was EC$7. Follow a set of steep steps down to the falls, super easy and quick. A bit rocky at the bottom but clear gorgeous water.

Beautiful spot, it’s secluded but free for everyone to go to. A lot of steps to go down, but at the end it is stunning, you can swim there, we saw young school kids chilling with music that was good to see.

Great stopping point. Didn’t walk down to falls as it had just rained and we were told it could be slippery so we watched from the observation platform. Complimentary Rum punch was very welcome before the bumpy ride back to town.

Beautiful falls area to visit. This was part of an organized tour we took through a cruise line, the falls are great, but I kind of question the distance and time it takes to get there and back. It severely cut into other things we might have been able to do. The road there is very long and zig zags up the mountain. It can be fun, but it is a long drive. The falls area is touted as wheelchair friendly (and we had a WC user in our group) and it is to an extent. We were able to wheel over to an observation deck far above the falls, but could not go down the long stairs that lead to the falls directly. We could visit the "bar" also, it offered rum punch, fruit juice and fresh fruit.
