A must-visit place while in St. John's. Top of the hill provides best lookout for entire area. No wonder, St. John's is the oldest town in Canada due to it's strategic location. Can you believe you are closer to Greenland than Edmonton, AB !!! This is very historically significant site from trade and security viewpoint. Glad to be here

Signal Hill is an important historical landmark for any visit to St John's. The info displays inside Cabot Tower are quite informative. The stairs to the top are steep and narrow however the view from the top is spectacular. We walked the North Head Trail which is challenging in spots and well worth the hour and change it took us to walk it. At the end of the walk down, we took the shortcut up to the Johnson Geo Park, then stay to the right to see the Queen's Battery then up the steps to Cabot Tower. What a great introduction to St John's!

Love the hiking here, we made plenty of stops to take pictures. Two sets of red chairs in 2 different hill side was a nice addition to this place. You can sit and enjoy the view as long as you want it. Take the car up here if u are not so keen on hiking, event it was an easy long pne.

I hiked the north head trail just before sunset and it was absolutely stunning. Definitely not for the faint of heart - it wasn't difficult but it was very rocky underfoot and had a lot of stairs. I'm so thankful I was able to get out and see it on this beautiful October day!

Beautiful views of St. John's and the Atlantic Ocean. Can see the eastern most point of North America from here. Walked from downtown area in about 30 mins. If you only have one day in St. John's as I did, this is a great free trip you can easily do. The walk up is a little steep but manageable. People in wheelchairs will likely want to get a ride up to the top.

Incredible views of the city and the horizon/waterline in the distance. Lots of great hiking trails too and fairly ample parking. 100% have to come here to see this place, its awesome in every way.

I've slowly and steadily fallen in love with Newfoundland and my Newfoundland wife, gotten to understand her better and the humble resilience and hard work that I found this Monday evening through the presence of a beautiful enduring Silver Fox... Educational little museum in visitor center I recommend visiting before heading up to top of Signal Hill. Watch video in theatre as well. It's windy up on the hill so bring jacket or sweater. Lots of different trails to walk depending on your ability and footwear. You can almost feel all the history of Signal Hill while exploring the area and the views of the narrows of the harbor and the city itself are amazing. I have traveled to many countries but the view from Signal Hill will remain one of the most memorable to me.

We really enjoyed visiting this place, we hiked along the Signal hill road, up to the Cabot Tower. Spent about an hour there and enjoyed great views of the ocean and the St John's harbor and city. We also learned the history of St John's military battles and the first wireless transatlantic communication. On the way back to the city, we hiked along the North Head trails which was the most beautiful and exciting hiking we had.

I would consider this one of the must-see sites in St. John's. The hill was the location of the last battle in the Seven Year’s War in North America and was later the location where Guglielmo Marconi received the first transatlantic wireless signal. Tangible sites include the iconic Cabot Tower and the various British military instalments around the hill, such as the Queen's Battery Barracks and the various canons which are scattered around. While you can drive up the hill, if able, I would recommend walking instead, as there are various interesting tidbits around the different walking paths, such as the ruins of the old canteen.

The Missus and I along with our West Coast travelling group visited the Signal Hill National Historic Site. It’s the location for the first wireless message transmission across the Atlantic to England in 1901 by Guglielmo Marconi. There are picturesque views of St. John's harbour and many trails to hike. We walked the North Head Trail back to downtown St. John's. Expect some elevation changes but nothing too strenuous. The Cabot Tower was also opened to explore its exhibits along with a souvenir shop. We were able to view the noon day gun blast ceremony and explore for a few geocache sites. There was ample free parking and no entrance fees. A must visit when in St. John's.

We finally made our way up here on our last day in Newfoundland when the fog and rain finally broke and a beautiful sunny day broke through. The views of the harbour are worth it alone, but Signal Hill is worth it for many other reasons. What happened here played a big part in the world of communications we live in today.

This is a must see stop while you are in historic Saint John's Newfoundland. Lots of trails I have done them all in the summer and the ones in the winter that you can. The views are fantastic and keep an eye out for a whale. I think while you are there looking into St John's harbour you feel the history of all the people who have sailed in and out .

One of the most beautiful places I have ever been. It’s a huge park and there’s lots of trails to walk and things to see. The tower at the top of the hill is historic, the view from the bluff is breathtaking. Just be warned, the stairs to get out to the viewing point way out in the harbour is MURDER to walk back up, but still worth the view. There is a large visitor center and plenty of parking. There also doesn’t seem to be any kind of entry fee, or even a gate. Not to be missed on a trip to St John’s

Lovely place with history , there is nice trail to work along . Best time to visit will be summer and spring but any season is still okay . Very good view of St. John and the waters bring chill to your spine that you are part of history

Breathtakingly gorgeous, stunning & surreal! The views of the Atlantic, coastline & lighthouse are magnificent! Due to time constraints was unable to tour lighthouse or hike that rugged 10k hike & complete the 98 steps to the top of the lighthouse! Due to the crowds & lineups would recommend online ticket purchase to avoid the crowds:) Gift shop & amenities available on site as well as parking. Park fees apply. Enjoy!

Cape Spear is amazing, I really really love it. When you are there, you are surrounded by beauty and have a high ground view of it all. Additionally, the trail simply around the light house compound is great for a quick walk around. It contains all the charm of some of the best of Newfoundlands coast.

Loved loved loved cape spear. So beautiful! Absolutely unforgettable place. Fog set in in our first attempt to visit the area, so we came back the next day and the view was incredible. Saw quite a few whales, the beautiful historic and current lighthouses. The staff was friendly and the park was clean. Parking is free and there are no admission costs to consider

Make sure to go early the parking is limited up top, if you park in lower parking take the shortcut up but expect to sweat a bit if you are out of shape. The view is amazing , beautiful place and we saw a few whales in the distance. Well worth the visit

What a beautiful place. This was my first time visiting but it won't be my last. Can't wait to go back when the weather is warmer and be able to take my mom, sister and stepchildren. Would love to actually be able to do the tour.

Incredible view with a lot of natural beauty. The light house itself is amazing. Walking around the area is free, but to get into the lighthouse you have to pay a nominal fee. Bathrooms aren’t available at all times, and there are limited hours at the gift shop.

This place was nice and clean, it is the most eastern part of Canada. We did partial East coast hiking trail and there were lot of wild blueberries plants out there to snack on as you hike further. Spectacular views of Atlantic Ocean in between for mesmerizing moments. Pet friendly place.

About half an hour from St. John’s, we drove out at around 4AM to catch the sunrise. We expected to stay for about an hour or so, but ended up staying for more than three hours, first enjoying the sunrise and then whale watching and basking in the beautiful scenery. Lots of trails to wander around and you’re almost guaranteed to see whales, especially if you happen to bump into a local who has a keen eye for it. History is abundant there and the cafe is also a must do!

Beautiful experience. King bedroom has 2 large windows facing the ocean and the lighthouse. Anne is an excellent host!!! The place is rustic and no tv, limited internet BUT worth a stay - we loved our experience and will recommend this location to friends.

Great place to spend a few hours. Learn about the importance of the Newfoundland coast to the WW2 effort, enjoy the light houses and the walk around the area and stand on the eastern most point of North America. And you may even see some whales, which we did today. It was a great day out, recommend for everyone that comes to St John's

You have to pay 8$ for entry to the historic site. Not sure if you have to pay to walk around. The worker were knowledgeable. Please wear good footwear lots of walking check out the bunkers and the pathways along the bluffs .

Great views, walking trails, lighthouse tour. We were able to see a few whales from a distance. Descent parking, but get there early because it did fill up, then you will have to park on the road far away. There is no charge to walk around, a small fee for touring inside of the lighthouse. The trails are part of the East coast trail system. Parts of this are handicap accessible, nice clean bathrooms and gift shop near parking lot.

This is the easterly point of Canada and the site contains the oldest lighthouse in Newfoundland. It's worth a visit to walk around the site even if everything is closed; there are also some walking trails but it was too cold and windy when we visited (late-May). My favourite part of the site is checking out the World War II defenses and the history behind them.

Totally worth the effort to visit, excellent views, absolutely beautiful route, and well, it's a necessity to visit the easternmost point of North America.

It's located near st. John's. It's the Easternmost point of North America. The parking here is free, you can avail the washroom and cafe until 6pm. The drive is very scenic overlooking the Atlantic and the hills adjacent to the road. The lookout is very scenic and has breathtaking panoramic views of the North Atlantic.

Just a spectacular building! Very well laid out and beautifully designed. The Rooms kept us entertained and informed all morning. The cafe looked nice and the staff were friendly and helpful. The views from 'the rooms' were brilliant. A must see in St John's. Plenty of affordable parking on site. Gift shop. Many interactive setups for children.

My visit to The Rooms in St. John's was absolutely fantastic! The architecture of the building is stunning and the panoramic views of the city and harbor from the top floor are breathtaking. The exhibits were engaging and informative, showcasing the rich history and culture of Newfoundland and Labrador. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable, adding to the overall enjoyable experience. I would highly recommend a visit to The Rooms to anyone looking to immerse themselves in the beauty and history of this region.

Beautiful museum. The architecture is absolutely beautiful here. The dark granite floors are stunning. The galleries are also very interesting and informing! I love coming here every now and again. The cafe is really nice too, fair prices and delicious! But my favorite thing here is the view of the city. Absolutely stunning.

This is first class museum that can compete with all of the national museums in Ottawa or even Washington, D.C. The Sobey’s family art collection currently on display on the 3rd floor is beautiful examples of Canadian Art!!!! This is a must see location in St.John’s. The views of the harbour are fantastic.

The museum is fantastic. The admission fee is quite affordable, yet there are so many things to see that we had to rush through a few sections to make sure we were not missing out on anything. The cafe was a pleasant surprise. The service was great and we enjoyed our meal surrounded by stunning scenery.

I'm a huge fan of the rooms! A mix of historic stories plus art, and local stories along with art is amazing. The layout is almost like a maze but in a great way! I really appreciate the attention that native stories and art have been given here in recent times too! There is a locker room for costs, bags and other things which they give you a key for. I took the stairs however I did see a few elevators so I believe it's accessible.

Great place for all ages because there you will learn many historical things about Newfoundland's culture, animals, sailing, fish's, bird's, Nobel peoples , war heroes and much more. If you want to increase your knowledge about NL, I would say go there and visit. When you reach the upper floor your get amazing harbor views from there.

Four of us visit The Rooms, one adult and 3 kids, two of the kids are age nine and the other is three. They all run up the stairs to the entrance door and ask, ” can we go through the spinney doors” Yes, let’s go! When we get inside, we were greeted by security and then we proceeded to the front counter to get our passes and a map of the building. It cost $2 for parking and $20 for admission. We were given four passes/pins to place on our coats, to show we have an access pass to the security in the building when accessing different areas. The room has four levels. Level one hoast the admission desk, elevator, washroom, and gift shop you can visit the gift shop on your way out, after exploring.

Great museum with a lot of exhibits - the rooms of each exhibit are quite large so give yourself a lot of time to walk through. They do have 2 observation decks for you to view the beautiful city. They have a kids area to enjoy books, activities, touch an iceberg and instruments!

This is a museum showcasing different aspects of Newfoundland history and culture. My favourite exhibit has got to be the "Beaumont-Hamel and the Trail of the Caribou" about the Newfoundland Regiment during World War I. The exhibit was very comprehensive and very well-organized. I learned a great deal from the exhibits and could've easily spent an entire day checking out everything.

Really solid museum and art gallery. Went on a rainy day and this was the perfect activity. Less than $10 for students so super affordable. Lots of Newfoundland history and some great permanent exhibits. Good info on the biology of the province and good history ranging from Vikings and early indigenous peoples to English and Irish settlers, to modern times including the history of fishing and farming on the island. The art exhibits are great and feature really powerful and important local artists. Lots of fun for families and kids and lots of activities throughout the museum. Would highly recommend! Don’t bet on the cafe tho! Long wait times so go out for a bite to eat before you come!

We arrived via cruise ship on a foggy rainy day so headed for this well rated museum. It is a good 15 minute walk straight up the hill but gives you a nice opportunity to get a taste of the town. Paid $10USD (converted from CAD) for each adult. The facility is large and open/ airy with a great modern industrial design inside. Lots of bathrooms and elevators. For us (walk fast and only read the exhibit of interest to us), this was an enjoyable 90-minute visit (all we needed) that gave us a great feel for the town and region from a wide variety of perspectives (art, nature and animals, natives, immigrants, history, artifacts). There is a little something for everyone here, this is the only museum you need to hit. There are little pieces of fun information everywhere - on the wall, up above you, in a display case, in little cards with supplementary details, or in large digital touch displays. This is a very thoughtful and well designed museum, kudos to the whole team. Great visit, highly recommended.

An incredible museum that is definitely worth a stop in St. John’s! Exhibits and galleries are well laid out with plenty of information, and the significant Indigenous art tells a very impactful story about Newfoundland’s history.

Interesting museum. Access to archives for genealogy search is free. Museum has teo exhibit halls. One with small fossil exhibit, indigenous artifacts and preserved wildlife, the other with maritime and indigenous artifacts. There is a small gallery displaying works from prominent east coast artists. The cafeteria on the top floor has magnificent views of the harbour. First Wednesdays of the month are noted to be free entry. Admission averages $6.50 to $10 all other times. Most of the exhibits are wheelchair accessible and there are some hands on activities for the kids. Check their website for special events or presentations. Parking on site is $2 per hour and there is a gift shop. Affordable local attraction.

We originally had a tour scheduled in Bona Vista that we had to cancel unexpectedly and we ended up doing this one instead, but I'm so glad we ended up here. In keeping with the name, the whole boat is staffed by O'Briens and they are all warm, friendly and enthusiastic. Our tour guide is also an actual researcher and kept providing a ton of cool information throughout the tour. We went through the Puffin sanctuary, which was both interesting and gave some amazing views. And we ended up seeing whales, even though they hadn't seen any the prior couple of days! They went out of their way to get us near to them and give us a good show, even though it extended the tour a bit. Do not think the photos attached to this review remotely do justice to the experience of doing this tour in person. Cannot recommend them enough. A fantastic experience that's well worth the money.

Great tour! The crew was amazing, the caption steered the boat well and we saw many puffins and other birds. No whales at this time, but shout-out to the driver for them that picked up the people from hotels! He was super knowledgeable about the history of the area, local saying and overall great on the ride there and ride back. Totally recommend!

What a great tour!! The tour guide was friendly and knowledgeable , not to mention, was Con Obrien from the Irish Descendants?! He sang some amazing newfoundland songs! We were brought right up to the birds ecological reserve, and saw thousands of Murres and Puffins- no whales on our trip (end of August so I wasn't expecting any). My only con is that the boat didn't stay still long enough or often enough for me to get any clear pictures of the puffins. They're tiny birds so once I located one the boat was on the move again. (This is just the birder in me speaking...haha) Great trip and I plan on doing it again next time I'm back in Newfoundland! Thank you!!

What an absolute delight. This trip was terrific. No whale sightings=a bit too early but the birds were flying and nesting. The songs and education were fantastic. You could get screeched in. There was a bar on board. We were to busy at the rail trying to spot a whale 🐋 . The staff of O'Briens were extremely friendly and approachable. Chatted with them especially about 🎶 music. Frank is a music student and my daughter is a board certified music therapist.

I would highly recommend this boat tour. You are entertained with music, singing and games. The captain is the father who had three sons managing and handling the whole experience. It was wonderful. Tip generously as this helps keep this boat tour be the best chance for you to see whales, puffins and other species. Highly recommend. You will not regret it.

A great company with a nice boat route going by neat rock formations and a bird island. The crew and captain had extensive knowledge of everything we passed, including the geology of the rocks, and the various species of birds. Highly recommend taking a tour if you're ever in the area.

Unbelievable!! Would highly recommend this boat tour to anyone visiting newfoundland. The welcoming nature of the people of this province came through in this tour with a fantastic positive energy. Noah was our guide and he has gracious enough to sing us a tune when leaving and coming back. Our boat size was on the smaller side and even with less people he really kept the energy up and up beat. We got to see the puffins and several whales along our trip out which we were all extremely thrilled about!! Great experience and recommend anyone coming out to go with Obrien's!!

Enjoyed a great two-hour tour with O'Brien's this week. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and had a wealth of information about the landscape and wildlife. We were very fortunate to see many whales, puffins and a variety of other seabirds. Really enjoyed the live performances of local songs sung by the crew but could have done without the music played a little too loud over the speaker for part of the cruise. Overall a very positive experience and well worth the cost of a ticket.

We had a really beautiful and rewarding experience with O'Brien's in mid-August for a 9am whale and bird tour with Con O'Brien, cousin of the original founder, and member of the band the Irish Descendants. Con educated our small group of 10 with really interesting facts about the area, Gull Island, all the seabirds we saw, facts about NL in general, and of course sang a few irish songs for us while we sailed. Con was available for a chat any time if you wanted more information about anything. He pointed out notable birds, explained about their habitat, and told stories of other tours he's done, and his traveling adventures. He's also really funny and entertaining, he's clearly very experienced in his role and a natural showman. The boat itself is really comfortable, with a closed cabin for those who want to stay warmer, and an open upper deck. They sell snacks, alcoholic, and non-alcoholic drinks, and have two bathrooms on board. We sadly did not see any whales, but did spot a seal, several jellyfish, gulls, murres, puffins, a sun shower, and a rainbow. Gull Island was particularly gorgeous with its mindblowing rock formations and massive bird colonies. The crew took good care of us, and were always consulting their instruments looking for whales. Safety demos were provided. Tipping is optional and could be made by dropping cash in a box at the exit at the end of the tour. When we docked at 11am, we noticed a huge crowd for the next tour, so maybe booking for the early slot is better if you don't want to deal with fighting for railings. Please remember that there are no guarantees about seeing whales and that the crew is doing the best they can to give you a great experience, but cannot pre-book wild animals in a vast ocean. O'Brien's website is really easy to navigate and book your tour, and the prices are extremely reasonable for the experience. We paid $170 all-in for 2 ppl for a 2 hr tour, which works out to $42/hr which is a bargain for the experience.

Awesome tour! Within the first 5 mins of leaving the dock, a whale was swimming around the boat. The captain provided play by play analysis of the encounter, ironically, he sounded and kind of looked like Brendan Gleeson. One of the tour guide was Daniel, very nice and warm singing voice. This was my wife and I second tour with this company and our kids' first tour. The excitement and sea air made them sleep soundly that night. We visited puffin island and got a nice history and info about it.

Beautiful spot to head out on the ocean. Great prices -children and student rates!! The guides were very friendly and hospitable! We sailed out to the echo reserve to see the puffins save sea birds. No whales today, but it was a great adventure! Gorgeous sights.

What a great day. We didn’t see any whales as it’s quite late in the season but the skipper and crew onboard were friendly, entertaining and enthusiastic. Saw 167,422 Puffins, Kittiwakes and gulls. The ride out to Gull island was exciting and the cruise back to the harbour was relaxing and enjoyable. Would definitely recommend.

Loved the 2 hours cruise 🛳. We were lucky to see a Minke whale, a large school of jelly fish, lots of puffins, common murres and several other sea birds! The crew was great and entertaining 👏 👍

Magnificent views, adventurous hikes, full of fun information in geology, this park is amongst the very top park of Canada. Every section is so unique in landscape and their geological traits. Be sure to plan enough time for exploration when visiting NL. I would say that you can easily spend 4-8 days in this park along.

Gros Morne National Park is ranked as top 6 most beautiful national parks all around Canada, right here, high mountains, deep cliffs, wide lakes, curve seashores, exotic gobi landscapes, etc. Only you cannot imagine, nothing you cannot found here. More detailed comments, I put it in the specific location inside this national park.

WOW, JUST WOW! This national park is way nicer than we expected!! There are tons of hikes to do, and each view is impressive! You have all kinds of hikes to do, from easy ones to tough ones! If you do some long ones, make sure you have enough water and snacks! Even if you don't like hiking, the views from the road and camping are worth the detour! It's a must-see!

Western Brook Pond boat tours was fantastic. Sunny day, view from the front of the boat and just perfect weather during our time here. The walk-in to the boat tour is quite long, so eat your Cinnabon from Robin's coffee first! The views were incredible to see. Another place you need to visit when on The Rock.

Completed the long range traverse hike in July. In hindsight I would have brought my fleece as evening temperatures were getting down to single digits. Lots of wet weather made for some wet trails therefore enjoyed the extra pairs of socks I brought. Would highly recommend the hike but it isn’t easy. The initial ascent is quite steep especially when you have all the weight for your full journey. Views can be stunning but can also close in with fog. Make sure you are comfortable with maps and knowing how to use a topographic map prior to coming. This isn’t the spot to be learning, but if you are comfortable, this is a fun (and tiring) hike. Completed the hike in two nights on the trail, started the hike late on the first day. Planned to slow down and enjoy the trail more but with bad weather we kept going and finished early. Watch the weather as the descent off of the top of the hills on the last day are down ravines that could be tricky during rain. Took in Gros Morne Mountain at the end, which is a great add on. For logistics, we flew into Deer Lake and rented a car to drive up to the park. You have to pass a navigation test (map and compass) at the park HQ before they will give you a pass for the trail. To start the hike you need to take a boat tour into Western Brook Pond, and they will not allow you off the boat without the pass. We arranged for a cab to pick us at the end of the hike parking lot (entrance to the Gros Morne Mountain trail) and left the vehicle there. Then took the cab north up to the boat tour. To make things all work on the day we flew in, we ended up taking the later boat tour. This meant that we were getting off the boat in the evening. It worked for us but it is something to consider as it did not leave a lot of hiking time before nightfall. Flight schedules have also changed a bit so will need to check the new schedules. There is a lot of water sources along the trail so you don’t need a pile of water but bring a good water filter.

The Tablelands is a great experience. One of the few places you can walk on the Earths mantle. Beautiful views as well.

This is a UNESCO World Heritage site that demonstrates evidence of continental drift. As such, there are a broad variety of terrains and drastically different landscapes. There are tons of beautiful hikes and other outdoor activities available. The drive in was gorgeous and it only gets better from there. If planning a trip, I'd plan around closures (such as the Gros Morne summit being closed to protect wildlife in May and June this year). Even if certain parts of the park is closed, there are still plenty of things to do. I'd start every visit at the Discovery Center, where you can learn about the different geographical features of the park.

11 days in this jewel of Canada made us dread going back to the U.S. Wonderful hikes without any crowds. September was a great time to be there. Such beautiful variety and peaceful. If you can only get to Newfoundland once, go here. The boat ride is worth the price.

You have to visit to experience the untouched beauty of this magnificent national park situated on western coast of Newfoundland. Pictures and video just cannot do justice to its unparalleled beauty. You get the mountains,ocean,beach,sandbanks,fjords,culture, beautiful sunset and sunrises all rolled in one when you visit the national park. I say it's one of those places you should consider as a bucket list when exploring Canada.

One of the most beautiful parks in all of Canada and the best place in all of Newfoundland. When I toured the island this was by far the most memorable place out of all of them. The best place to stay nearby is Cows Head or in Rocky Harbour as both are pretty close with multiple options for accomodations

See the Tablelands and take the tour. Lots things to see and plenty of hiking trails . Go to the Disvovery Center it helps you understand the area better . Go to Trout River and eat at The Blue Whale and buy something at the store . There is a museum stop for a few minutes. Need souvenirs there is a small shop in town there .

Beautiful place, we stayed at Lomond campground and hiked Stanleyville trail, beautiful calm bay at the end of the trail. We also hiked tablelands and the lookout trail. Had an amazing time. We had to drive to the hikes outside our campgrounds (tablelands 38km). Everyone in the town is super friendly and helpful. Will be back for sure!

Very beautiful, and an amazing site that all people of Newfoundland, and Labrador should see. Its far away from the main cities, so I advise you bring all the things you will need, and there is no cell service out here, But overall a beautiful park of nature, and good for hiking.

George Street Festival is worth every cent. Well organized and safe event. Music performances are great.
