The Shanghai Auto Museum is a must-visit for car enthusiasts, showcasing a diverse collection of vintage vehicles and classic cars. Located in the Shanghai Auto Expo Park at Anting Town of Jiading District, the museum offers an extensive look at the past 100 years of automobile history. With over 70 rare vehicles on display, visitors can explore the evolution of modern cars and learn about the assembly of different car parts.
Well curated museum and lots of information as long as you get a guide. Without a guide you're just looking at the eye candy. It's in the middle of nowhere if you are staying in downtown Shanghai so it may be a trek. If you love cars though, it's worth a visit. Although imyou may have seen all these cars before with the exception of the China specific cars.

Visited in February 22, on a Sunday. Started to get busy in the afternoon, but quiet in the morning. The museum shows great samples well preserved historical cars from different countries. It is definitely worth a visit if you like history of transportation. You also get a glimpse of what Shanghai looked 100 years ago for transport , roads and traffic.

Car museum located in the Anting Shanghai International Auto City area. Definitely a must see if you are interested in cars especially classic cars. 60 RMB for an adult ticket.
Open Tuesday-Sunday 9:30am to 4:30pm. Closed earlier in the day than expected so take note to get there earlier. I easily spent over 3 hours browsing the 3 floors of cars and information.
First floor has the history of the automobile from the wheel to the first diesel engine, auto transmission, and assembly line. Lots of cool stuff to see.
Next floor has a history of the automobile in China.
3rd floor is comprised of antique classic car collections and an extended range of miniature car models.
On the top level there is a learning and discovering area for children and adults which teaches you about how cars work and the parts of the car (engine combustion cycle, transmission, suspension, steering, etc.) All of the children's stuff is in Chinese however. Also F1 racing simulators on this level.
There is a gift shop by the entrance that sales lots of miniature car models.
Great if you can occupy yourself, not many guide options and only restroom I saw was on the top floor.
Definitely check it out for the classic cars alone.

One of the best example of automotive history I’ve been to. A fantastic blend of history of the car in China evolved as well as many international examples. Well worth the visit.

Many classic and golden era cars, few modern. If you like cars then it worthy to travel to the other side of Shanghai to see.

Nice place to see and enjoy with family . VW full part display is good . Nice to know how from ancient to modern technology .

If you are in Anting area, don’t miss the opportunity to stop by the auto museum.

Good storytelling from the birth of the car to the modern ones. They have a lot of old cars and a bit fewer really new cars. The area is a bit remote. The overall impression is very good, it's a must for car enthusiasts!
The Yangchenghu is a large body of water situated in China. It is characterized by its vastness and expansiveness, offering a significant amount of space for various activities and purposes. This aquatic habitat serves as an important source of sustenance for both flora and fauna, providing nourishment and support to a wide range of organisms that inhabit its depths. The expanse of the Yangchenghu also allows for ample opportunities for recreational pursuits such as boating, fishing, and other water-related activities.

Shanghai Zhujiajiao Ancient Town Tourist Zone, often called the Venice of Shanghai, is a historic water town with a legacy spanning over 1700 years. This charming destination is renowned for its ancient temples, traditional houses, and picturesque bridges that showcase its cultural significance.
A good chill-out place to go in Shanghai area. Tourists can get to there by subway directly which is very convenient. Ancient buildings beside the river make people feel like walking in the past. Many restaurants and street foods are available, and tourists can even pay to get on a boat for river sightseeing.
Antony Li — Google review
If you are in Shanghai and have half a day to spare, an ideal destination will be Zhujiajiao 朱家角. As in other water towns, there are many bridges here. Fangsheng 放生(Release into Freedom) with its 5 round arches being the most prominent. There are folks peddling small fish🐟, tortoise 🐢 to visitors to be released into the waterways. Then there are others in small boats nearby ready to scoop them up for resale, how ironic. Well, just enjoy the scenery, boat ride and food in this ancient town.
Sukuan Hon — Google review
Great experience! The town is culturally enriching as the vendors live behind or above their shop. Families work together and it’s a tight knot community. Some owners even have microphones to get you to visit, it’s very interesting.
They have shops that cook fresh fish, crab and even turtle for you - literally you pick the one you want. I wasn’t a fan of this, but it’s culturally acceptable so it was interesting to look at. Not sure on pricing because I didn’t opt into this....
Need Weechat to purchase most things, cash is accepted at some places as well.
Restrooms are difficult to find, be sure to go when you enter.
Paige Smith — Google review
A must visit place if you are in Shanghai. Awesome water town with amazing eateries, shops and people.
Bibhor Bista — Google review
Amazing place, but it can be very crowded. Recommend visiting outside of the worst tourist season.
Martin Hettervik — Google review
Beautiful little water town with lots of history. Expect to do a lot of walking as the streets are a bit of a maze and lots of little stalls to stop at. Great for lots of local foods at a relatively low price (given it is a tourist location). There are paid attractions but the town itself is free to enter. I particularly enjoyed the soy sauce market/shop which sold many local marinated/pickled goods.
Getting to zhujiajiao from shanghai city was relatively simple, albeit a significantly long journey. We too the mtro line 2 from nanjing road to hongqiao airport station, then switched to line 17 to zhujiajiao station. Metro fare was ¥8 one way for an adult. Be reminded that bags need to go through scanning for metros, so leave sharp objects at home. Going into the town, there is the option to hail a ride, rent a bike, or buy a boat ticket. The little boat is 20 min long, ¥40 per person and will take you directly to the middle of the water town, so while pricey, i thought it was worth it.
You can send a postcard to yourself at the post office here (they offer international postage), and also visit some temples dating back to the ming/qing dynasty.
The night view is spectacular along the river, but the streets will be pitch dark (little to no street lights). Store owners are very friendly and will happily guide you to the metro station if asked. A bit of a walk back to the station (maybe 15 min at a brisk walk) but not too bad.
This was one of my favourite tourist spots during my stay in shanghai, so if you like old style buildings/environments, i highly recommend taking the journey here.
Echo Mak — Google review
Just what you wanted to see when you decided to visit a historical part of China and not going too far away from Shanghai. Most people take the metro to come here, but instead I got a taxi from Didi app (Chinese Uber) and saved both time and my legs (specially on the way back after a few hours walking) and just relaxed on my way back to Shanghai. You will find lots of shops, tea houses, temples, bridges, gondolas and people, lots of people. Very enjoyable short trip , a perfect place for photos, street food, souvenirs and a glimpse of what life was like in ancient China.
Danielo D2 — Google review
A small beautiful ancient Chinese village at outskirt of Shanghai, settled at the bank or Caogang river & rivulets. Many older looking Chinese houses were lined at both side of river & transportation was by boat. A lot of stone arch bridges crossed the walkway for pedestrians. Many traditional Chinese shops, restaurants & emerging modern western restaurants were there. We were delighted to see a store selling dried snakes, sea horses, scorpions & various fishes. Pig legs, chicken feet, whole baby chicken, whole pork thigh etc. in different soya sauce were on display for sale. Also called Venice of Shanghai was a good place to visit.
Rajendra Sanjelchhetri — Google review
Very nice scenery. So refreshing with the nature. Recommend to visit around sunset the view on the old bridge really beautiful. Not too crowded on weekdays.

if you have already seen all the touristy spots in shanghai like nanjing east road, the bund and the oriental pearl tower, it wont be a bad choice to visit this place
small, old and quiet town with few shops and restaurants along the street
most of the shops seem to be closed due to covid. it's still quite empty here

Easily accessible from Shanghai metro line 17, this ancient water town is a must go for those travelling to Shanghai who love historical places.

Yes, it s for tourists (domestic and international) but intent is to show how many products are made, so food is freshly prepared and delicious. Pleasant stroll around when not too crowded!

Beautiful old town, we enjoyed the scenery but the place is not ideal for wheelchairs
mia Valmai (Mia valmai karjono) — Google review
Small village with charming atmosphere of old buildings, channels and bridges. Tourists can taste local food, buy souvenirs and travel along channels on Chinese-styled boats. There is a metro station nearby.
The Humble Administrator's Garden is the largest classical garden in Suzhou, dating back to the Ming emperor Zhengde. It is divided into three distinct areas and is one of over 50 gardens still in existence today. Along with eight other gardens, it represents the finest examples of Chinese Mountain and Water gardens. These gardens are known for their exquisite craftsmanship, artistic elegance, and rich cultural implications.
The exemplary masterpiece among all Chinese gardens. Make this your #1 priority coming to Suzhou.
Andrew Kean Guan — Google review
If I had to name this, "humble" is probably not a word that would spring to mind. Perhaps the Administrator might have been humble, but the garden is anything but. There is an explanation in the museum as to why there are so many nice (previously) private gardens in and around SuZhou. Think "keeping up with the Jones'". So maybe the Administrator wasn't all that humble after all, just like his garden!
We went on an "off-peak" weekday, but it was still quite crowded. Nevertheless, we were able to enjoy the various "rooms" that the garden is divided up into without too much crowding. As it was spring time, there were quite a few flowers out. Overall, this was a very pleasant place to spend a half day.
The only reason that I didn't give this five stars is that even though it was an off-season weekday when we visited, some of the paths were quite narrow and it was - at times - a bit difficult to squeeze past other park visitors. I personally probably wouldn't visit during a busy time - unless crowds are your thing.
Glenn McCall — Google review
The oriental scenery is so be beautiful, not recomended to buy souvenirs inside the garden, i would suggest to somewhere 3pm, then exit at 5.00pm, then wait for night event to see the lighting from 6pm.
William Hong Xian Long — Google review
There are multiple traditional Suzhou-style Chinese gardens in Suzhou, and 9 of these gardens have been inscribed in World Heritage list. The most famous and notable one is the Humble Administrator's Garden. It will take you about two to three hours to finish the walk throughout most of the places of interest. It's mandatory to make a reservation of your arrival time during a busy time like summer.
It is recommended to join a tour guide service to further understand the background history and trivia behind this garden and the story of the founder. The complimentary tour guide service lasts for half an hour, guiding you through some of the most crucial buildings in the garden. You can understand more by requesting for a paid tour guide service.
There are lots of photo opportunities in the garden, and you get to experience more when the history of these incredible buildings is revealed. The current price is RMB$70 in the off-peak season and RMB$80 in the peak season.
Sean Liu — Google review
One of the must visit attractions in Suzhou.
This attraction boasts of a traditional house from ancient times with beautifully manicured gardens. The bonsai garden is especially impressive.
Remember to book your tickets well in advance. RMB70 with special prices tickets for elderly and half price for off peak seasons.
Wilson Foo — Google review
The Humble Administrator's Garden (拙政園) is the largest, finest and most beautiful garden in south China. This famous garden was built in Suzhou (蘇州) in Ming Dynasty (明朝). The designer use spaces planning and incorporated both natural and man-made materials to present various but elegant views that visitor need to discover with mind. I strong recommend to hire a tour guide to lead you into this beautiful world and explain those astonish designs.
It is better to put 3-4 hours in the itinerary to enjoy the garden.
An important thing need to be mentioned: There are lots of cheaters selling the fake ticket in very cheap price. Don't be fraud. The true ticket is sold only in the official entrance.

This Garden from Suzhou is one of the 4 most representatives and famous landscape heritage spots from all China. It was created here a small piece of heaven on the earth. The water, the green and all the artefacts in this perimeter are genuinely disposed in an authentic compound. A huge effort to create a masterpiece. Highly recommended for tourists, wherever are they coming from!

Awesome garden! I heard it was the one I would need to go to if I could only choose one and I did not regret it. The crowds couldn't be helped considering it's China and it's a UNESCO heritage site. Definitely go on a weekend. The museum and Pingjiang road are all pretty close by and there are some eats available too.
The Suzhou Museum, designed by renowned architect I. M. Pei, is a treasure trove of Chinese artifacts, showcasing calligraphy and ancient craftwares. Nestled in the network of waterways that define Suzhou's unique cityscape, the museum offers a glimpse into the rich cultural heritage of the region.

+IM Pei design, impressive architecture! Unique design where combine Chinese culture and modern architect. Natural lighting and comfortable design.
+good quality products inside the museum
+there is a coffee shop inside selling quality coffee
-may not have a guide for non Chinese reader, may want to borrow a recorder for introduction
-many tourists, I will suggest to go during weekday....
Janet Tong — Google review
One of I.M.Pei's masterpieces. Every corner I turned delivered an amazing spatial experience. The architect's sensitive response to the vernacular architecture and integration with existing historical buildings makes me a very very happy person. The apertures are also to die for. At the time I went (August 2018) there was a cool contemporary calligraphy exhibition on. The rest of the exhibits are archaeological crafts and artefacts, well curated. One of the better museums I've been to in the area.
IMPORTANT NOTE 1***: Make sure you book your ticket online at least 1 week prior!!! The tickets are free, you just need to reserve ahead of time to skip the queue. (I managed to skip the queue because my grandpa pulled the elderly trick and jumped the line entirely, bringing me with him). Don't fall for tour guides trying to sell you tickets to the museum. Even if you waited during weekday it'd only be 30mins max wait. It's free!!!
IMPORTANT NOTE 2***: I went through the museum "backwards". Start by going in and turning left towards the stairs and waterfall.
Cherry Yang — Google review
Best museum in Suzhou, beautiful architecture and great collection. The New Suzhou museum was designed by I. M. Pei, a famous architect who designed the glass pyramid for the Louvre.
With a perfect combination in art culture and design in modern architecture form, this museum is very popular in tourists. The exhibition objects flourished in history & culture of Suzhou city from prehistoric time to the modern day.

Tiger Hill Pagoda is a 7-story hilltop pagoda that was originally part of a temple built in the 10th century. It is a cultural symbol of Suzhou and features the famous Yunyan Pagoda, also known as Huqiu Tower, which leans at an angle. The site also includes the Sword Pool, believed to be the final resting place for the king's swords. This ancient attraction holds historical and folklore significance and has been praised by poet Su Dongpo.
Great building from the time when we didn't have a shuffle... amazing perspective and a good lookout in Suzhou.

One of the best place to visit if you are in Suzhou. I think morning hours are the best time to visit this place.
Shantang Street, located in Suzhou, China, is a picturesque and historic area that offers visitors a glimpse into the city's rich cultural heritage. The street is lined with traditional Chinese architecture, including ancient buildings and charming stone bridges that span the canals. Visitors can explore quaint shops selling local handicrafts, sample delicious street food, and take leisurely boat rides along the waterways.
Lingering Garden is a large park in Suzhou, China, which is known for its extensive gardens and well-maintained grounds. The park was first constructed by an imperial official in 1520 as two gardens. In 1635, a Buddhist temple was built on the western side of the garden. The park is visited by tourists for its picturesque architecture and lush greenery.

Tongli Ancient Town, located in the southern outskirts of Suzhou, is a well-known water town with a history of over 1000 years. The town is characterized by its intricate network of rivers that divide it into several parts, creating a picturesque setting with old residences and hidden gardens. This ancient town has also served as the backdrop for shows adapted from Wuxia novels.
Like stepping into the pages of a Wuxia novel; in fact, some shows adapted from those books were filmed here. Love that it's off season as crowds were minimal and on the rainy days, we feel like we had the town to ourselves. Be wary of the electric scooters, though. They can sneak up on you as they don't make any sound. Also, some merchants are aggressive and unscrupulous and will lure you into their stores with free samples; as soon as you enter the store, you are an insect in a Venus fly trap! Also, most of the restaurants inside the old city serve pretty much the same dishes. For more variety, go into the regular part of town.

It is a very beautiful place to visit, during November the weather is a little cold and lesser people. However, I love it... a very well-preserved architecture. The entrance of Nanxun old town is free but you can hire a tour guide (RMB 100-200) to bring you around with explaining But all the history houses need to pay the entrance fee (age more than 60 half price will show your passport). Nice place to go

See the main areas but if you get there and it's too crowed just get around and explore you will see almost no one because the tours don't go that far.
It took me 3 hours and a half to see the whole are and I would have preferred to go by myself that to book a tour but it was cheaper. As soon as we arrived I left the group to explore by myself. It was the best I could have done.
The areas close to the last bridge are quite isolated and one can see houses of real people along the channel, they dry their clothes and underwear as well as fish in the river and cooked what they've caught, it's charming.
The most important or touristic parts are the old houses, the temple and the rice wine factory.

As one of the many Pretty Water Towns located in the Yangtze's Dalta Region, Nanxun holds its own Eastern Old World Charms. Dated as far back as 9th Century AD, it had been gradually developed into an important regional Distribution Center for Farm products, as well as Silk trades. Equipped with entwined waterways and arched bridges, NanXun's Old Town is a well preserved Cultural Center and a delightful Tourist Destination. I had visited NanXun on a Day Tour from Shanghai several years ago, which I enjoyed immensely. I am uploading a few photos as my recommendation.

The Wuzhen Water Wheel is a charming ancient town that has been meticulously restored and renovated, featuring picturesque canals flowing through its streets. A visit to this town is highly recommended when in Hangzhou, especially in the evening when you can enjoy a leisurely stroll for at least three hours. It's an ideal spot for capturing beautiful pictures, although it can get quite crowded. The best time to visit is from March to April when the weather is pleasant.

- The ticket process is so complicated. There are 2 steps for ticketing. One is at the main entrance and the another one is in front of Lingyin temple area
- The gods houses are set in layer from down to top as represent gods position in the heaven
- The temple and view is so beautiful. People come here for their believe and pray which make the place in peace even with a high number of people. It's worth to come!!!

Lingyin Temple (灵隐寺) in Hangzhuo is definitely a place to visit for those who are interested in Buddhist sculptures that were craved out from the hill rocks more than 1,000 years ago and the hall of the famous Master Jigong (济公活佛) for his wild and eccentric behavior and didn't follow Buddhist monastic rules by consuming alcohol and meat.
There will be a lot of walking and steps to climb, so go in a pair of comfortable shoes.
To go by the metro, can take Line 10 and Exit A, and there is a direct bus that could fetch you directly to the temple. Payment is best with Alipay (公交车) in Hangzhuo, of course 😁

Guoqing Temple, a Buddhist temple with a brick pagoda dating back to 597 and bronze statues now designated as national treasures, is definitely worth visiting. It is advised to bring a camera and water while being respectful of the strong morals and beliefs still practiced here such as not stepping on doorways. Information boards are available for those interested in learning about the deep history of the temple. Entrance fee is only a few RMB.
the guojing temple is over a millennium old, as it was established during the tang dynasty, which lasted from 618 to 907 ad. this makes the temple more than 1,000 years old (!). as an active buddhist temple, it maintains a community of monks who reside on-site, engage in religious practices, perform rituals, and manage the temple's operations. the monks offer teachings, guidance, and support to visitors and pilgrims who come to the temple seeking spiritual guidance. I saw couple of them today engaged into chores, cleaning and also some who were rushing to have their classes.
the temple complex contains numerous historical buildings, statues, and artifacts that reflect the rich cultural heritage of tiantai buddhism and chinese buddhism in general. my favourite part about the temple is the peaceful environment. it is located in the forest, has numerous ancient trees distributed on its premises which offer wonderful setting for spiritual practice, including meditation, chanting, and sutra recitation.
in tiantai buddhism, nature is often seen as a manifestation of the buddha's teachings, reflecting the interdependent and impermanent nature of existence. the beauty and tranquility of natural landscapes serve as reminders of the dharma, encouraging contemplation, mindfulness, and a sense of interconnectedness with all living beings.

Absolutely worth a visit. Bring your camera and a bottle water. Be mindful of the morals and beliefs that are still a strong virtue here (such as not stepping on the doorways (step over)). Take your time to read the information boards available to learn deep history. Only a few RMB to enter. If driving, recommend you tell security you are staying at the hotel just up the road and then walk, as opposed to walking all the way up the mountain road (my local contacts did this). In the summer time it is best to go in the morning due to heat.

The Tiantai sect is the first Chinese Buddhist sect to evolve from the original Buddhism after it was spread to China. Its founder, Master Zhizhe, lived on Mount Tiantai in Zhejiang for a long time - hence the name Tiantai sect。
From there, the Tiantai sect of Buddhism spread to both Korea and Japan during the Tang Dynasty 。

Tiantai Mountain Guoqing Temple is a Buddhist temple located at the foothills of Tiantai Mountain in the north of Tiantai County, Taizhou, Zhejiang, China. It was built in the Sui Dynasty and has a history of more than 1,400 years. It is the ancestral hall of the Tiantai Sect of Chinese Buddhism and the Tiantai Sect of Japanese Buddhism. The temple was built in the 18th year of the founding of Emperor Wen of the Sui Dynasty (598). It was first named Tiantai Temple. Later, it was renamed Guoqing Temple because "if the temple is completed, the country will be clear". The temple covers an area of 73,000 square meters. The existing building was rebuilt by imperial decree in the 12th year of Yongzheng reign of the Qing Dynasty (1734).
After Master Zhizhe established his teachings in Tiantai Mountain, he stipulated that the Bon Dharma Ceremony be held every year in various temples and nunneries. The time is from the ninth to the fifteenth day of the seventh month of the lunar calendar, a total of seven days. I thought it was a way to repay my parents for their kindness in raising me, and also to extend my life. At that time, believers from home and abroad gathered, numbering in the thousands. During the Dharma Assembly, the leader of the group lectures on the Ullambana Sutra in the Miaofa Hall every morning for about 2 hours.

(Translated by Google) 201905 Nanxi River is famous for its beautiful water, strange rocks, numerous waterfalls, ancient villages, and beautiful beaches and forests. It is the only scenic spot among China's national-level scenic spots that is famous for its "idyllic landscape scenery"; the water of Nanxi River is crystal clear and beautiful. The colorful scenery, swimming fish and gravel are vividly visible. We took a bamboo raft to float on the river. The Nanxi River is wide and shallow, and the water depth is generally only about 1 meter. On the river, we can see the green mountains in the distance and the beach forest up close. The scenery of the stream and mountains is refreshing.

The mountain features the Yongquan Temple, which is considered one of the best Buddhist temples in Fujian and houses grand halls and rare relics. Gushan Mountain, along with Yushan and Wushan, offers Taoist and Buddhist sites dating back to China's Warring States period.

Very nice mountain. It's so high that you'll need a half day to get to the summit. Some upper part of the park you can get clean spring water to drink.

Sanfang Qixiang is a cultural and retail district that features well-preserved Ming and Qing Dynasty-era architecture. Visitors can explore famous homes, view housing styles of late Ching and early Republic times, purchase souvenirs from shops, and enjoy tea in one of the many tea houses. Local guides are available to explain the meaning behind the design elements and provide historical context.
One of the famous old streets in Fuzhou, or the most famous of all (i think), this place is very near from Dongjiekou station. Right in the heart of the city, it has many unique architecture, which is quite different from any other place you’ll see in China. It is by far the best place to buy souvenirs in Fuzhou, as there are many different kind of souvenirs shops here. Good place to try Fuzhou snacks as well.

Unique experience for tourists to visit in Fuzhou. The streets and alleys is long enough to walk through, with a variety of gift shops, drink stores (including Starbucks), and restaurants. Not really needed to buy tickets for individual house tours, unless planning to come back for more exploring or staying longer than 4 hours, which is definitely worth to do.

Also some old building to show the housing style of late Ching and early Republic time
Also some shops for souvenir and many tea houses
Will be better to find a local guide to show the houses and explained some of the meaning of design and also the background history
Also enjoy a relaxing tea in one of the tea house, observing the tea practice is also an enjoyable event

Interesting ancient buildings. A little expensive but than again everything in Fuzhou is expensive, it's actually more expensive than Shanghai. A good street to buy gifts and try local food, that is quite different than anything else in China.
A windy clean nice island. We’ve stayed 2 nights here. We rent a car and almost visited all famous sites, too busy trip and would have been nicer to stay at one place for a longer vacation with the family. Miss the time spent with my mom!

Lovely island in Fujian Province not far from the city of Fuzhou. It's very worth the visit. Our friend from China told us you can see the bioluminescent algae but we couldn't see them when we went there.
