If you find yourself in Repino, a trip to the memorial estate Музей-усадьба И.Е.Репина "Пенаты" is a fascinating experience. This was the last home and resting place of painter Ilya Repin, providing valuable insights into both his life and the historical significance of this area as it became part of the Soviet Union during his time here.
Couldn't get inside since the tickets booth closes down at 5pm but walking through the park is enjoyable even by itself. I would recommend going there at autumn, its especially lovely this time of the year
Karina Nemesheva — Google review
This place is about famous russian painter Repin. He lived there for a long time and paint a lot of his pictures. House was destroyed during WW2 and was rebuild again by the photos. Now there are museum and park. Museum excursion will tell about life and work of the painter. Walking in the park allow to feel the soul of that place.
Peter Kudinov — Google review
The wooden house was built in 1960 in accordance with drawings, which remained after the fire of 1944. That fire destroyed everything around. The house, which is more than 75 years old, requires significant renovation. There are just several original subjects there, which belonged to Mr. I. Repin. The several small and not well-known pictures by Mr. I. Repin and his students and several units of furniture exposed were taken from Repin's apartment in St. Petersburg; other subjects were brought from different places with the aim to give an impression of the epoch. It was very dark in the rooms, and most of pictures were almost invisible. The visitors, who want to see exposition, are advised to take pocket lights with them. The forest with paths leading to several sights of interest including the grave of the artist and summer theater, surrounds the manor. Unfortunately these paths are not properly lighted and poorly supplied with pointers.
Alexander Kossukhin — Google review
If you should ever end up in Repino, a visit to the painter Ilya Repin's last home, where he died, and also is buried, is a very interesting experience. Not only is it interesting to learn about the painter, but also to get insight into the history of this area, which became a part of the Soviet Union while he lived and worked here. The place is now a museum, and it is required to take a guided tour to get inside the main building. They have soundtracks during the tour in a bunch of languages. During our visit, we got English guiding, and right behind us they arranged for a visitor from China.

A very interesting building of the time when Emperor Paul was the Master of the Order of Malta.

Gatchina Palace, one of the largest and most opulent 18th century palace & gardens in Russia, has a museum with fine art, antiquities, and weaponry. It is located near Saint Petersburg.
Very nicely restored new rooms. Audio guide is recommended. Trip down stairs to the passage is fun especially for the children.

So impressive with this palace. I went there on autumn 2017. Outside in the morning was so quiet and no signs for tourists where is entrance but Russian pointed over there. Ticket price is 350 rubles for adults. There are 3 floor and 1 basement. Museum keepers was so nice and always try to tell history of this place even my Russian skill is fair.

The huge palace of Emperor Paul just started to turn into a museum. For a long time there was a naval school. Now museums are much smaller than a quarter of the building, but restoration work is underway. A special impression is left by the private chambers and the office of Emperor Alexander 3. Small rooms and low ceilings contrast sharply with the luxury of the rest of the building.

The Great Gatchina Palace is a palace in Gatchina, Leningrad Oblast, Russia. It was built from 1766 to 1781 by Antonio Rinaldi for Count Grigori Grigoryevich Orlov, who was a favourite of Catherine the Great, in Gatchina, a suburb of the royal capital Saint Petersburg. The Gatchina Palace combines classical architecture and themes of a medieval castle with ornate interiors typical of Russian classicism, located on a hill in central Gatchina next to Lake Serebryany. The Gatchina Palace became one of the favourite residences of the Russian Imperial Family, and during the 19th century was an important site of Russian politics. Since the February Revolution in 1917 it has been a museum and public park, and received UNESCO World Heritage Site status in 1990.

Empress gave this palace to her lover who killed her husband, the emperor. When lover died she gave the palace to her son, who hated her and loved his killed Emperor father. Son became the emperor himself and build a brand new palace-castle where he was killed by his men.

A very beautiful place. A bit underrated. Tourists skip this destination.
Dvortsovyy Park is an extensive lakefront recreational area that showcases lush botanical gardens, a charming amphitheater, and sprawling grass lawns perfect for picnics. The park boasts an array of plant life, including vibrant daffodils blooming in the bushes. Although some areas may have been under reconstruction during visits, the overall beauty and tranquility of the park remain intact. Visitors can also enjoy boat rides on the serene lake.
Absolutely love the park. Been there twice with 1.5 years interval and both visits revived my mind and body. Royal landscape designers did know how to do their job.

(Translated by Google) The park is beautiful. We spent several hours in it, not the first time, and not the last. We live nearby. But! I was surprised by the uncut, even neglected lawn, with bald patches of dandelions. I’m not talking about the lawn throughout the park, but where it usually was ideally. The park is not friendly to visitors. Entrance is 150 rubles and there are also paid toilets. 30 rubles each. The toilets themselves are not ideal; there is not much water in the tap or paper to wipe your hands. In a cafe where I bought tea and coffee several times, the saleswoman literally told everyone, why are there so many of you... And this was on Saturday, when in reality there were not many people. Ducks, swans, carps, pigeons and mice are beautiful.

(Translated by Google) Nice beautiful park. A great place to take a walk with children. The park is quite clean. The area is large, so it will take a whole day to get around it. The Gatchina Palace itself is also very beautiful - it’s worth visiting. And be sure to visit your own garden. Huge carps swim in the Carp Pond) In the park there are tame squirrels - they run up to get the nuts themselves. The only negative is that admission is usually free, but on children’s day they made it paid, thank you for at least letting the children in just like that. Well, the lake is not cleaned - it’s dirty. I understand that money is needed to maintain the park; perhaps the management should think about paying a minimum entrance fee on weekends (as in the Central Park of Culture and Culture), and not on Children’s Day.

(Translated by Google) The landscape is very beautiful, ancient oak trees and ponds are impressive. But! There are very few benches, you still need to look. Probably all the money went to the rolled lawn, as indicated by the signs under every tree. Accordingly, you cannot walk on the lawns. It’s impossible to even stand up to draw and choose a favorable angle. Disappointed.

Ландшафт очень красивый, вековые дубы и пруды впечатляют. Но! Скамеек очень мало, поискать ещё нужно. Наверное всё деньги ушли на рулонный газон о чем говорят таблички под каждым деревом. My favorite church of all Russia. It's more beautiful than the church on the spilled blood in St. Peter. And best yet, no line. I just walked right in on a Wednesday. It smells really nice in there and they can bless your crucifix or buy an icon there as well. Praise the LORD JESUS, Amen.

A very lovely cathedral both on the outside and within. For a small donation the workers at the cathedral will let you climb to the top of the cathedral and photograph the view from there. It was a lot of fun. Remember that this is a working church, so be respectful and quiet.

THIS IS NOT the Peter and Paul's Cathedral where the Romanov's are buried (that one is in St. Pet center within the same name fortress on an island).
THIS IS the same name Cathedral in Peterhof, around 45 min from the center. It totally differs in style and year of construction from the St. Pet's one.
This one in Peterhof is just across the road from the Peterhof summer Palace complex (read that review).
It's a beautiful classic Russian style Cathedral built around 1900, almost 200 years after the St. Pet one. It's just by the bus stop that will take you back to center so it's worth visiting its beautiful interiors

The Peter and Paul Cathedral is a Russian Orthodox cathedral located inside the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg, Russia. It is the first and oldest landmark in St. Petersburg, built between 1712 and 1733 on Hare Island along the Neva River. Both the cathedral and the fortress were originally built under Peter the Great and designed by Domenico Trezzini. The cathedral's bell tower is the world's tallest Orthodox bell tower. Since the belfry is not standalone, but an integral part of the main building, the cathedral is sometimes considered the highest Orthodox Church in the world. There is another Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul Church in St. Petersburg, located in Petergof.

So I ignored and went ahead anyways, there were just 2 guided tours. So no rush of tourists, still they would come to specifically to hurry up and move ahead. One of the lady even told me do not stop and go towards exit!!!!!Absolutely ridiculous. At least let me read what am I standing in front of. Waste of money and waste of time.

The palace itself is a stunning example of Baroque and Neoclassical architecture, adorned with intricate details and gilded decorations. Inside, visitors can explore lavishly decorated rooms filled with historical artifacts and artwork, providing insight into Russia's rich cultural heritage.
However, the true highlight of Peterhof lies in its magnificent gardens and fountains. Amazing place, Official tour in 2016;One of the most important sites of cultural importance in Russia is the Peterhof Palace. It is a series of palaces and gardens which are located in Peterhof, St Petersburg. One of the best features of the area that catches the eyes of the many tourists who come to visit the area is a 16-metre high cliff. One of the best features of the Palace is the Chesma Hall. The Hall is decorated with painting from the Battle of Chesma, where Russia won a naval victory during the Russo-Turkish war.

Peterhof Palace, often dubbed the "Russian Versailles," is a mesmerizing testament to opulence and grandeur. The sprawling palace complex, with its meticulously manicured gardens and glistening fountains, is an architectural marvel that never ceases to amaze. Its sheer scale and beauty are boundless, offering visitors an enchanting glimpse into Russia's imperial past.
One of the palace's standout features is its accessibility. The easy commute from the city center allows for a seamless transition into this world of regal splendor. The journey is well worth it, as every corner of Peterhof holds a new marvel to discover.
When planning a visit, it's worth noting that there are different tickets for the upper and lower gardens, the palace itself, and Alexander Park. To maximize your experience, consider taking the little train to access Alexander Park. This charming ride not only adds a touch of whimsy to your visit but also allows you to navigate the park effortlessly, ensuring you make the most of your time.
Peterhof Palace is a quintessential Russian treasure, offering an unparalleled blend of architectural brilliance, natural beauty, and historical significance. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking to immerse themselves in the splendor of Russia's imperial past. Be prepared to be captivated by its allure, leaving you with memories to cherish for a lifetime.

I visited Peterhof during a rainy summer day. When visiting Russia pay heed to the fact that Russia has rainy summers, not that sunny as one may expect.
I take my hat off to this well preserved palace! Everywhere you look one can spot glittery statues, breathtaking fountains lavish salons, and so on.
I’ve visited many European palaces, however, I must say they pale into comparison with the Russian ones.
Getting there may not prove easy depending on the weather. We took the hydrofoil which you can find just on the banks of the Neva River, right behind The Winter Palace. It’s worth taking it, but, in our case the service stopped on our way back due to the heavy rain and wind. Plan ahead second routes should you end up being affected by unexpected weather conditions.
Visiting the palaces requires paying at least three tickets. You may decide the sections from the palace you wish to see and wonder about. If possible purchase your tickets prior to your visit as the lines may be quite long and you may end up making a time consuming line under the rain or the bad weather. May you be lucky as to be there on a bright day, do share your beautiful pictures.
On the bright side, one can bump into many squirrels mingling with the crowds; they love being given treats, have fun with them !

The Peterhof Palace and Gardens, located just outside St. Petersburg, Russia, are a testament to the grandeur of Russian imperial architecture and landscaping. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Peterhof complex offers visitors a glimpse into the opulent lifestyle of Russia's tsars.
Designed by renowned architects and landscapers, the sprawling gardens feature meticulously manicured lawns, vibrant flower beds, and a network of cascading fountains. The Grand Cascade, with its golden statues and powerful jets of water, is particularly awe-inspiring.
Exploring the grounds of Peterhof is like stepping into a fairytale world of beauty and luxury. Whether strolling along the pathways lined with statues and sculptures or marveling at the synchronized water displays, visitors are sure to be captivated by the sheer grandeur of this historical masterpiece.
In conclusion, a visit to the Peterhof Palace and Gardens is a must for anyone interested in Russian history, architecture, and landscape design. Its beauty and magnificence leave a lasting impression on all who have the privilege to experience it firsthand.

One of the must-sees in St Peterburg. The Peterhof Palace is stunning, magnificent and majestic externally and astonishing, grand and remarkable in the intricacies and opulence internally. In addition, the well manicured gardens accompanied by the hundreds of exquisite fountains are definitely worth a visit

Beautiful place which is just 30 min away from the city.
There are plenty of food spots inside, and the view on the Gulf of Finland is nice.
Highly recommend to purchase entry tickets online to avoid the queues.

The Peterhof State Museum-Reserve (Muzeya-Zapovednika Peterhof) is an impressive 18th-century palace complex including a striking dome and gold spire. The collection of scientific archives, housed in the Historical Archives section of the museum, covers a wide range of topics from mathematics to zoology. The museum is popular with visitors for its beautiful gardens and collection of fountains.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get to the museums - there were very long queues. Although we went through the queue to the park quickly. If you compare the beauty of the parks with the same Versailles, then Peterhof noticeably wins! In general, we highly recommend visiting!

The russian orthodox church Morskoy Sobor Svyatitelya Nikolaya Chudotvortsa is a beautiful cathedral that was built in the early 20th century and is dedicated to fallen seamen. It has a unique design that combines Neo-Byzantine and Romanesque architecture with Russian features, such as its chandeliers and mosaics.
Worth visiting 30 minutes on the bus from Peterhof. 1km. slow walk from ิus stop. You may be could not find any better than with exception for St.Isaac Cathedral. Without admission fee. you can feel even better. You can sense feeling of greatness of the place and sense of local on the same time. It was considered on the best in St. Petersburg

This remains a functional church, also with a second floor (no tourist access) meaning the interior is less grandiose and relatively small, however no less ornate than other churches you may visit. Worth a visit of you have some extra time, the most beautiful views are from the exterior with the baby blue facade.

The Naval cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Kronstadt (Russian: Морской Никольский собор, Morskoj Nikol'skij sobor) is a Russian Orthodox cathedral built in 1903–1913 as the main church of the Russian Navy and dedicated to all fallen seamen. The cathedral was closed in 1929, was converted to a cinema, a House of Officers (1939) and a museum of the Navy (1980). The Russian Orthodox Church reinstalled the cross on the main dome in 2002 and served the first Divine Liturgy in the cathedral in 2005. In 2013, the Patriarch of Russia, with Prime Minister Dmitriy Medvedev and his spouse attending, conducted the ceremony of grand reconsecration in the now fully restored cathedral.

Beautiful church. It offers to buy candles and other souvenirs from this church. It is close to parks and the harbor. Definitely worth a visit. Dress modest when visiting. Best is to bring a shawl for ladies, because they require the head to be covered. They provide shawls in case you do not have one. No restroom inside, but there are restrooms closeby, you have to pay though.

Some of them are used for religious purposes for some reason: there are icons, fonts, booths for prayer, etc. Moreover, everything was done cheaply and ugly. It is perceived as visual garbage. The park has a ring path, dirt surface, one bench, and a memorial cross. And many, many signs stating that you need to leave the park during a hurricane) Nothing more.

The location is good, the estate itself is wooden and is in poor condition, so it is closed to visitors.
The park itself is old, but not as well maintained as it should really be.
There is a straight alley and centuries-old trees, yes, they are beautiful and powerful, but everything is overgrown with young trees and bushes, so that one would like to say that this is not a park, but a dense, impenetrable forest.
I really liked the cave and springs.
Nature truly created a miracle, very fabulously beautiful.
I won’t go there for walks with my family and children.

And the estate itself is located on a hill, and offers a beautiful view of the surrounding area. The estate is surrounded by a park. The central alley is decorated with centuries-old alleys and oak trees. In the depths of the park there are karst red-colored caves of natural origin. Springs gush out of the rocks. One of the springs is considered holy. They say the spring has healing properties (helps with eye diseases). We, of course, washed ourselves with water from the spring, and even drank a little, albeit from the palm of our hand. But people filled bottles with water. There is even a plunge pool that you can take a dip in (next to the locker room). We climbed through the caves. The weather was gorgeous, the sun was shining. The sky was absolutely incredible. Therefore, first we walked around the park, and then we went to the estate.

The museum costs 4 euros make sure to visit this place if you are in Narva! The museum has a tower where you will get an amazing view between Estonia and Russian castle, there is an elevator however it only reaches the 3rd floor from a total of 7.
They will also give you a coin that you are able to exchange for a souvenir, which is a really nice perk.

Museum with a very informative tour of the history of Narva.
At the entrance we were given phones that told us more info after scanning at a given exposures which was really helpful (texts in Estonian, English, Russian, Finish and Latvian).
The architecture and the design of exposition was very interesting and interactive, however, the navigation in the museum was a little bit confusing and we got lost few times ( and I guess we did not see it all 😅)
The overall tour was great and you can also see beautiful views from there, worth to visit!

I was born in Narva, but I left Estonia when I was around 18 years old. So, it's been around 12 years since I saw Hermann (=Narva) Castle (the white tower)! It is the most beautiful place in Narva in my opinion. It stands on Narva River which divides Estonia and Russia. When I was a child, I remember that the Castle had extensive collection of artefacts and items from various periods of time to showcase the history of Narva and the castle itself. I also remember that it was quite hard to climb upstairs for me! However, when I visited castle now, I was pleasantly surprised to see that they got elevator! The exhibitions are now skillfully curated to show different moments of Narva's history. It was great to see physical objects, 3D animations of the life in the medieval Hermann castle, 2D story of how life has changed over many centuries, and old movies of Narva. I loved the views from the top of the Castle!
Apart from that, you can explore the yard of the Narva Castle, see various crafts displayed (you can buy them also), and gift shop. There are usually various craftspeople from Estonia and around the world in the summer time, but I missed them because there was preparation for a concert in the yard. I grabbed some traditional drink, kali (or kvass), which was poured in lovely mug. I had to drink it fast because I noticed swallows flying around, and I managed to photograph their chicks on the Castle's wall!
The area around the castle is lovely for a walk. You can pass it and see "clock" scupture, for example. There's lots of swallows and seagulls flying around. If you fancy to explore seaside city called Narva-Joesuu, you can go to the port near the Castle and catch Caroline.
Overall, if you have just a day in Narva, you definitely should visit this place. The history of Narva is really remarkable.

Glorious place, the castle park on sunset, ancient oak trees and views over the rivervalley. By surprise suddenly at the Päts statue palace garden music started playing from radio, 1930ties and we danced.

Toila-Oru Park is a true gem of Estonia's natural landscape, offering visitors a stunning array of flora and fauna, as well as a rich history and cultural significance. The park's extensive gardens feature a wide variety of trees, flowers, and other plant life that change with the seasons, making it a beautiful and dynamic destination year-round.
In addition to its natural beauty, Toila-Oru Park boasts a rich cultural history, having been a popular destination for Estonia's elite for centuries. The park's historic buildings and monuments, including the Toila Sanatorium and the Oru Palace, offer visitors a glimpse into the region's past and its importance to Estonia's cultural heritage.
But perhaps most impressive of all is the park's commitment to sustainability and conservation. The park's management team has gone to great lengths to ensure that the natural beauty and biodiversity of the park are preserved for generations to come, making it a shining example of ecological responsibility.
Overall, Toila-Oru Park is an extraordinary destination that offers visitors a chance to connect with nature, history, and culture in a truly unique way. Whether you're a nature lover, a history buff, or simply looking for a beautiful and peaceful place to relax, Toila-Oru Park is a must-see destination in Estonia.

Absolutely lovely park to go and have a walk, a picnic or see a concert. We had never been and were so surprised at how absolutely beautiful this park is and how much elevation there is. The river and spring were so cool to. Completely gobsmacked at this find and we will definitely return.
Sidenote: You can also collect linden blossoms here end of June to mid July. Dried linden blossoms are prized in Estonia for their lovely tea, some also make syrups, essential oil, it's used in medicine as well. They are said to have many many health benefits. The park was full of them. Just be sure to be mindful and not break anything.
There are also many different nooks and crannies in the park to get lost in nature. Really, so lovely.

really nice and cosy park with great atmosphere.
worth a long walk or two, but take water/tea/coffee with you, as there is no place to buy it, except one little café at the enter to the park.
café is charming btw with nice couple who runs it (I suppose)

Really calm park with vast area to walk around. To explore all park be ready to spend here around 2 hours or more.

Beautiful park, has a lot of history. Pity that its former beauty was destroyed, apparently it was a jewel of the North before and people from St Petersburg were coming here for summer. The area next to sea is nice and you can wonder around for an hour or so.

Beautiful park with landscaping, big trees offer plenty of shades, have some ponds, streams. Free parking upstairs before the entrance, pebble beach ⛱️ with a workout area, swings, hammocks and decent restaurant . Great for running, strolling and chilling.

Beautiful quiet park, perfect balance of human touch and nature. The main avenue with big iron gate and old trees is dreamy, like from a french movie. Hope they don't change anything there.

Toila-Oru, Pühajõe, 41701 Ida-Viru maakond, Estonia
I'll never travel to Riga without this trip planner again
Cluster of churches around a 19th-century convent, housing an ancient icon of the Mother of God.
Absolutely fantastic! This monastery is well looked after and has the most beautiful architecture! I would advise anyone to visit it, great experience!!!
Richard Lukos — Google review
A must-see place in Eastern Estonia, even if you are a nonbeliever. Beautiful and well-maintained monastery yard, definitely worth to take a 30-45 min walk. Watch out for signs and avoid getting too close to wooden houses where nuns live. Parking lot near the main entry seems to be only for guests who agreed their visit in advance, so best to park your car a bit further.
Marina Nekrassova — Google review
Biblical Public loo is dangerously overpowering and rank. It took two days to get the smell out of my clothes and nostrils. In severe need of complete modernisation before the devil itself emerges from the appalling hole in the ground. No joke.
Western expectations of the healing waters probably include pure, sparkling, mineral water mystically lit with blue, white and UV LEDs; perhaps a faint whiff of sulphur, reassuring us of the volcanic depths from which this pure, natural water has emerged, accessed through beautifully white tiled and stainless steel changing rooms, gently ushered by glowing, hovering nuns, also in white....
Reality. Stagnant 'stream' with no flow. Large, dark, garden shed covers concrete ramp to small pool in muddy hole. Throughput is human, not water. 5,000 dunked bodies in one small pool gave us mild ear infections and healed, well, nothing.
Like the public loos, this facility would benefit from considerable investment.
The monastery, churches, and liturgies, however, are stunning.

Really amazing and beautiful place. One of the oldest Monastery (Convent) in Estonia that has been built in 1891.
A Must visit place even not for religious people.

Beautiful and peaceful place. You can visit freely, no tickets required, but since its an active monastery, one must remember to be respectful and not disturb the nuns living there.

Wow, beautiful place and probably must-see destination when visiting the eastern part of Estonia. Prepare yourself to be amazed by the self-sufficient Russian Orthodox community. Please be respectful of their faith and traditions.

Should be impressive for those who do not know nothing about Orthodox style of monasteries. But generally quite average. Too less gold. Nice bells' music. There is a little park to walk, well to drink.

The story of this spiritual sites dates back to the 16th century but the Orthodox cathedral was built much more recently at the beginning of the 20th century. There are 6 other churches inside the wall dedicated to their own saint. You can have a stroll in the park and get in the cathedral but you must be quiet at all times, there are over 100 nuns on the site. You can buy their honey (it s delicious) and help preserve the site.

Impressive church and adjoining buildings. Grounds very quiet. Ideal for meditation.
Very interesting tour. Guide was sharing stories from experience. Tour includes interactive trip to underground (train ride, drilling walls). NB! TOUR HAS TO BE BOOKED AHEAD: https://kaevandusmuuseum.ee/broneerimine/

Probably on of the most interesting places to visit in Estonia and yet often misheard of.
This shale oil mine was closed in 2001 and is now open to tourists. You can 8 meters below ground with a former miner who will even restart some machines to show you how extraction works. Worth a visit. On the way to the mine from Tallinn you can stop by Kivioli and admire the view from the slagheap.
Guillaume Février — Google review
A tribute to the people that spent and lost their lives in the mines of Estonia. The guides, actual miners, convey the methods and conditions with outmost warmth, while the museum itself it is well organized, digital and interactive, offered both for sort and long visits.

Great museum. Especially the guided tour underground. The exhibition in the enrichment building needs renovation. There are broken or stolen items. Also sad that the visitors vandalize the machines, which stand outside.

What an amazing museum and definitely worth a visit. The tour takes you into the mine, you learn all about the history and how shale oil is mined. You also get to see all the equipment actually tested in front of you and ride the mine cart.

Truly remarkable experience and impressive mining museum. You can visit underground tunnels and see all the soviet machinery. Most of it is in good condition, and the tour guide was a top-notch guy. They provide you with a warm jacket and helmets; I warmly recommend to wear it because it gets chilly and damp down there. They also have a beautiful restaurant area. Additionally, you can rent a 4x4 with a driver and explore the mining slopes and hills like a boss.
The Mku — Google review
A must visit museum! Tour guide was a guy who worked there for 40 years. He has lots of different stories to tell if you ask him. In the beginning you'll be shown a short video to better understand shale oil industry. After that the real fun begins. You will descent into the mine and watch various equipment in operation. The guide will explain how equipment and mining process changed throughout the time.

Established back in 1997, AHHAA Science Centre is the largest science museum in the country. It offers a variety of interactive exhibits and a planetarium that cater to visitors of all ages. This place is perfect for kids starting from as young as four or five years old and adults can also have fun exploring its offerings. The museum's holiday season was especially impressive and left visitors very satisfied with their experience.
This is the place for all ages-kids were super excited and didn't want to leave. Will definitely come here again after some time.

Very interactive museum. There are lots of interesting entertainments for both children and adult - various science inventions with descriptions and practical use, exibitions, also sport activities (basketball, running, football). Good that tickets are for all day and you can easily go in and out to/from museum.

Great museum experience. we visited many science museums in different countries and I can definitely say that this is one of the best. excellent zoning, a lot of topics and everyone can find something interesting individually. Plus a lot of cool visual objects where you can take good photos. To visit the city with children - the number one place. Particularly pleased with the huge space that presents new exhibitions every year and motivates repeated visits every season. Thanks to the leadership.

During our first visit to Tartu Ahhaa science center was 1st in the too to must go places and we did it. It is very interesting and full of activities. Kids just love it but there are interesting things for parents as well. Price for 2 parents and 1 kid was 54 together with planetarium ticket, and it’s full day multi enter ticket. Cant tell that planetarium was great, but from content perspective it was definitely great and interesting. We learned new things. There is a restaurant as well, so you can enjoy whole day there. I think we’ll definitely come back there again when we’ll be back in Tartu.

A great museum that everyone can enjoy. We are a science teacher and a physics graduate, yet we still learnt things! It is open late, so it can be left until later on a one-day trip to Tartu or a great place to go in the rain - there's an inside exhibition about sport with lots of practical exercise equipment to burn off a little (or large) one's steam.
The Museum shows science very practically and displays some of the more complex ideas at play.
We couldn't visit the planetarium as we arrived later in the day for shows in English. We would suggest checking in advance if you have specific language needs

The Botanical Garden of the University of Tartu is a delightful retreat for plant enthusiasts located in the heart of Tartu. The tranquil setting offers beautiful natural and man-made views with sculptures from various Estonian artists scattered throughout.
I recently went on a trip to Estonia and visited the second city of the country: Tartu! Have you heard about this city? 🇪🇪
It is also called the intellectual capital of the country! And that is for a reason! 😊 The city is full with concert halls, art galleries, theaters, events, creative neighbourhoods and lovely places for food and drinks.
Enjoy the pictures and stay tuned for for the article! 📕

When everything is cold outside, you enter into a wonderful heaven of plants and animals. The entrance ticket is 5 euros, and it completely worths it. There is much to see... for instance, the difference between the cold snowy of the outside and the miraculous green and warm of the inside. Its majestic. The air, the green surrounding the whole place. As me, I'm sure that you would be delighted to experience the Botanical Gardens of Tartu !

Entrance is free to the gardens. €5 per person for the greenhouse but absolutely worth it. I was blown away by the carefully constructed design of these gardens. You’re taken on a journey and there is a surprise around every corner.
The palm house has a brilliant selec of mature tropical planting, with the unexpected bonus of freshwater turtles! A hidden gem of tranquility in the city.

Wonderful hide away for nature and plant lovers in the middle of Tartu city. Allkind of plants starting from tiny and modest ending with big and flashy from all over the world. Plants are marked with label tags. Also many learning information plates around the park. Really piecefull place with wonderful views landscaped to look half natural half manmade. Many sculptures by different estonian artists are placed around the park. Most of those labeled with artpiece and artist name.
Outside area is free of charge.
I suggest to visit several times during the year to see the garden change during different seasons.

Beautiful oasis in the middle on Tartu. Most beautiful in the June when everything is starting to bloom (Peonys and after that roses) and is extra green but you'll find always and every day something new. One of the best places just to walk and enjoy the beautiful weather. You can also have a picnic or play with children on the grass and playground area on the other side of the park.
In winter time it is good idea to check in the glass houses!
I would say that if you come to Tartu just for a few hours then it would be good idea to visit Botanical Garden and Werner cafe (although there are other good cafes also close by like Tüümian and Säde). You can just walk in into the garden, no ticket but when visiting glass houses then there is separate ticket.
PS! If you're really looking then you may see cat and a squirrel who are living there.
PS2! Of course all photos are made by myself in this exact botanical garden during my visits.

One of the most beautiful and magnifecent town halls not only in the Baltic States but also in the whole world (seriously). Built in a Neoclassical and baroque style, it is well-preserved over time. It is impossible to miss it out during your stay in Tartu and I would say it is worth visiting the town hall during the ooen days. Also it perfectly correlates with the town hall square, and together they make amazing appearence of a medieval town. It's the reason why Tartu is so perfect.

The prices at the restaurant are worth the quality of the food, because they make everything from the seasonal products, so vegetables definitely dominate in the menu.
We tried three different dishes and their beer ice cream - everything was fresh and delicious, and the waiters can also advise you some beers to pair with the food. Don't miss the chance to use such an opportunity!

Dzirnavu iela 2, Valmiermuiža, Valmieras pagasts, Valmieras novads, LV-4219, Latvia
St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cesis is a significant medieval church located outside of Riga, Latvia. Built in the 13th century, it still serves as an active Lutheran church and boasts a rich history. The church facade is awaiting restoration, but the community remains vibrant and engaged. Visitors can explore exhibitions inside and admire impressive features such as the tombs of the Masters of the Livonian Order and miraculously preserved stained glass with the Latvian coat of arms.
Nice Church
Ian Y — Google review
It's OK at max. Maybe, if you stretch your visit might be able to stay 15 minutes inside. Although, that is not counting climbing the stairs.
But in the church itself there is nothing that you would not find in most other churches as well.
So, it will be a run trough visit at most.
Ah, almost forgot, the glass in lead windows are actually not half bad at all.

Pretty, very old, church with a terrifying (fun) option to tour the bell tower. The church is pretty, but let's be honest - all churches from that era are. For mere 2€ you can take your life in your hands and climb the stairs of the ~65m bell tower for a view. Most of the thrill comes from navigating the near-black steep staircase on your way up. Still, I enjoyed it.

Lielā Skolas iela 8, Cēsis, Cēsu pilsēta, Cēsu novads, LV-4101, Latvia
The Cēsis Castle is a romantic medieval architecture fortress consisting of two parts; the old Wenden castle, built by Livonian knights in 1214, and an 18th-century manor house that was once home to the German counts von Sievers. The former is characterized by sorrowful dark-stone towers that were destroyed in 1577 by Russian tsar Ivan the Terrible after its defenders committed suicide with gunpowder.
Once the mightiest fortress of Livonia, this castle in Cēsis is a great place to visit. You can climb up to the roof to enjoy the view of the town. Even though the castle is quite destroyed you can enter some of the inner chambers and explore the remains. Outside the castle there is an exhibition in the open air where you can see some tools, weapons and handcrafts. Overall it leaves an impressive image of a Teutonic Order times.

Great place, has loads to offer, a lot of information but only in English and Latvian. Have outside space with activities and people dressed in traditional clothing and doing asigned location tasks, like leather work, wood work, gardening, etc. Inside is great interaction where you can sit down for wonderful video of time starting from 1213 - 2019 years. There is also museum part with paintings. Full entrance price is 10 euro, garden and castle bit is 6 euro and museum is 4 euro on it's own. Would take about 3h to fully enjoy this place.

Just go!!!!
This castle is located in the most charming village of Cesis.
Everything is postcard beautiful!
Village and Castle are an extremely easy 4-5 min walk from the train station.
The Castle itself is a marvel and you see so much! They give you an antique lantern on arrival and off you go through spiral staircases to explore!
Parts of the grounds are also interactive with a working mid evil garden.
They have a wonderful video show at the very top of one of the towers.
Also, don’t miss the museum at the entrance as well. If you walk clear through to the library you’ll find access to the tower that has an awesome outdoor view of the entire village.
Save some time to eat at a cafe on one of the cobblestone streets.
A true highlight of our trip!

Best castle to tour in all of Latvia. Be sure to grab a candle lit lantern when you get tickets and explore the castle by candle light just like in the Middle ages. Also, don't miss the multimedia history exhibit in the castle tower.

I didn’t go on the tour so my review is far from complete. The castle is on a hill above a lovely park. If you want to see the inside you have to pay, which I opted not to do, but walking around the outside is great too. The walk only takes about 10 minutes but it offers some great views of the exterior and you can get up on an adjacent hill to see some of the town through the towers.

Definitely worth the time and effort to visit. The castle is 800+ years old. They give you a candle lantern to navigate the very dark stairwells which gives a realistic feel to your time in the castle. Nice museum on site as well.

Unique, historical, ancient, medieval Livonian knights castle. With a very tragic story… must visit place if you ever come so Cēsis town.

Beautiful castle with rich history. Visit the new castle which has big museum. Easily can spend 2 hours

Great museum. Very interesting approach with candles to lighten your way while climbing to towers. It’s especially interesting for kids. In one of the towers there were a tower history video with 360 degree - similar to planetarium. It’s possible to visit 2 old castle towers, medieval garden and main museum. At moment when we visited in museum there were an exhibition called “Hallo” about communication and phones. Most interesting part were 2 old phones with circle pad, where you can call from one to other. Kid loved it. It was an amazing experience.

The town is very nice and the castle makes it more interesting. The entrance is from a courtyard near the park. 10 euros the ticket. The exhibitions are very rich and the place is also very attractive. English around the exhibits and not on the piece of paper per room would be great.

Off to a good start with a very friendly cat at the entrance! Entry is worth the price with a very interactive and well kept castle with lots to listen to and watch. Some very interesting history and very accessible. A highlight was being given a candle lantern to explore the winding staircases.
One of the best castles in Latvia and well worth a visit

Very beautiful castle and park... liked the authentic atmosphere a lot... the castle is of course rebuilt/renovated in various areas to not fall into decay, but it is not subtracting anything from the experience
The trip with old light to the top and the multimedia movie in the tower is really amazing experiences
Highly recommend this castle

Cēsis castle is simply beautiful. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. I thought it would be a quick visit but we spent 2 hours. I was very impressed by the amount of interaction with the people working there. They have a cool games area where you can see and try ancient games, walking on sticks. There is a musician continuously playing traditional instruments and we had the chance of meeting a person re-enacting the trade of doing rosaries. Apparently on weekends there are more artisans. The animation in the masters chamber in the west tower is really well done. All in all huge applaud to the people working behind the scenes and the 2 friendly girls who worked the reception.

Pils laukums 11, Cēsis, Cēsu pilsēta, Cēsu novads, LV-4101, Latvia
42ha museum park about Latvian history & culture, with sculpture park, folk song events & a castle.
Very beautiful place, loved meticulously maintained grounds and walkways. Make sure you climb the tower itself for best views, no elevators there so be ready for a little work out. Definitely recommend stopping here.

Lovely partly ruined castle which is an impressive presence on the hill. We visited in February when some of the buildings were closed, but loved the views. There is a car park over the road, and a few mins drive away a good pizza place. I'm sure in summer you could spend hours there as there are several walks around the countryside.
Tracy Simpson — Google review
The castle is located in the very beautiful place, on top of the hill. I very recommend to climb into the tower. The view from there is breathtaking. It is 100m up from the river Gauja.

Pleasantly surprised by the amount of historical information there was around this place, multiple exhibits in different buildings and an overall large area with many archaeological founds!
Not to mention the great view from the top of the tower :))
There were probably more, but I got to visit three exhibitions within the same ticket, and it was quite fascinating to see the trinkets, coins, tools, weapons and other things that had been excavated from the 11-13th century!
Strongly recommend visiting if you are in Riga for more than two days :))

Wondering around the grounds give a unique sense of history. The tower of the castle gives an amazing views of the Panorama. The grounds a well kept and attractions are available in English language as well. Can you find a new discovery as They are still looking for hidden history.

Very pretty place and the national park around as well, I think the best time is summer, there are plenty places to make your own picnic. There is nice view from Tower in the castles, and also be prepared for so many stairs in national park.

The viewpoint from the tower was amazing. The castle is nice, I liked the garden. There are some nice art galleries, where you can buy hand-made jewelry and other souvenirs.
Elitsa Tsankova — Google review
One of the most beautiful castles I saw an amazing view from the top. It had a staircase which only had one way to either go up or come down so that was pretty interesting. I was glad they were not many people when we were there

Beautiful partially restored castle seated on a wooded river valley. I think it is the best of the 3 castle ruins of Siguldas.
There are museum exhibitions in the restored sections of the castle. The highlight is the large tower that you can climb to the top and get a great view of the Latvian landscape.

It was a nice experience to get to the top of the watch tower and observe the beautiful surroundings. Other buildings are okayish, not very immersive exhibitions.
The park and the area are quite pleasant to stroll around.
Ticket price is 2 EUR. Unfortunately many buildings were closed, probably to low season

You go there for the castle and you find much more fun at this complex. The castle has great towers and interesting exhibitions. The other buildings around the estate contain other exhibitions.

Such a beautiful place we didn't allow ourselves enough time here it is truly spectacular lots of walks to do around the castle and area
Sharon Perry — Google review
Very interesting and full of history. Ticket costs 6 euros, you can pay for the parking at the ticket office. And take at least half a day to see all the places, because that place is large. Theres is a lot of sights to see and walking up and down the stairs all day grows your leg muscles a bunch. I think its best to visit during the summer months, more things to see and you can also enjoy the beautiful, big garden.

Went on wintery day. Parking is a bit tricky - need to park on other side of the road and pay. Plus not to park on bus parking. Nice view, interesting to walk and read about history. Recommended.

No doubt one of the highlights of Latvia. The tower is likely the most important tihing to visit there as it gives you beautiful view over surroundings. Easy parking nearby with possibility to pay by app or at ticket office.

Turaida Castle is a recently reconstructed medieval castle in Turaida, in the Vidzeme region of Latvia, on the opposite bank of the Gauja River from Sigulda.
It's an amazing experience visiting the castle in autumn. With changing colors, falling leaves, slight cold air, and the breathtaking view from the top of the castle take you to another level. Must visit spot in Latvia 🇱🇻

Beautiful castle and it does need you to walk a lot of stairs to reach the top tower but it's a beautiful view from there. There is an old church also here which has lot of ancient and antique things.

The Castle of the Livonian Order in Sigulda is a 13th-century castle with restored walls, offering gate and tower climbs as well as guided tours. Built by Bishop Albert of Riga, it suffered heavy damage during the 16th-century Livonian War. The stone ruins have been fitted with stairs and wooden walkways, providing a lookout point with stunning views of the surrounding river valley.
We had a very nice surprise exploring this ruin. Not only are there some great old buildings to walk through, but the views of the valley are exceptional!
Jeff Suderman — Google review
A very peaceful feeling here. Quiet but you can imagine defending the castle during this period. A superior location for defences! The surrounding forests and deep valleys stunning!
Paul McIlroy — Google review
The place can be visited even outside the specified hours - the tower requires a ticket. There are some panels and the view from a platform towards Turaida castle is great.
Cristi — Google review
Nice views around the castle to the Gauja national park. Some architectural decisions (growing trees around the boundaries of the castle) makes it possible to feel the size of the castle. Entrance price is 2e for adults, 1e for a discounted ticket (students, etc.) and 5e for a family ticket.

Beautiful place to take a stroll. There isn't much left from the old castle, mostly ruins consisting in one wall with adjacent rooms. Still interesting if you got an hour or two to spend walking around, nice Grounds, couple souvenir shops.

Pils iela 18, Sigulda, Siguldas pilsēta, Siguldas novads, LV-2150, Latvia
Compact cave in sandstone rock displaying inscriptions dating from the 17th century.
I have always liked the Gutman cave. The carvings in the sandstone that date back to the 17th century give it the historical charm. The running water sound and the songs of the birds bring peace to your mind and soul.

While this was a worthy walk, we expected a bit more than the 10 minute hike and small cave. We are glad we went...but watch out for the icy stairs in the winter!
Jeff Suderman — Google review
Fascinating sandstone engravings fill up the entire grotto, some of the eldest dating back to 16th century! Branded as the largest in Europe by the description but I didn’t fact check.

2.5euro to park. It’s not a cave. More like a “wall”. Skip this place as others have mentioned.
Ohayō Phil — Google review
Be careful when using stairs, they are slippery. There's not much to do in winter time. Another location related with Rose of Turiada.
Esen Burak OR — Google review
The biggest cave in the Baltic states. Unfortunately, not deep enough to go inside and venture. Take a look at the signs engraved into the rock. Some date back to early 19th century. It’s easily accessible from the side of the cable car.
Mateusz Adamkiewicz — Google review
Wasn't much of a cave, more like a hole in the cliff. Beautiful park around it though with many trail hiking opportunities. It was a good spot to stretch our legs but I wouldn't go off my way to go there.
Jana L — Google review
Wonderful cave to visit if you are in the area. It is quite big and has a spring inside.
A lot of engravings in the walls, some dating a long time ago.
There is a legend about the cave, but I wasn't able to locate any information about it next to it, so look it up before visiting.
Everything around the cave is clean and well maintained.
Pity, that several people are not able to read signs "do not climb" and with their climbing keep destroying fragile sand stone.
Since there are no guards or cameras, they keep doing it...
Egita Gielen — Google review
A calm and nice place to come to relax, look at the writings on the cave's walls and enjoy the scenery. Only problem is, if you're travelling by public transport, the nearby bus stop's bus is quite unpredictable

If there is one place you visit outside of Riga, it should be this! Amazing sunset, soft sand, the best view. Even is you do not have a car, the train station is 20 minutes away and is perfectly safe to walk even when it is dark.
Eszter Kovacs — Google review
An amazing beach with a great view. I loved that it was not full of people and it has a great walking path higher off the ground which would make some amazing Sunset views. I also love that it was only ~30 minutes from Riga, which results in less travel time than going to the Jurmala beach. But take note that the parking here is paid (per hour), and it's was quite expensive.
Roberts Siminidi — Google review
Another amazing beach walk. You are walking along the beach on the wooden path with the option to come down to the actual beach. There's a children's playground. The view is spectacular.

What a marvelous place! Nice views, nice walk along the dock trail and along the shore, lots of information on sideboards along the trail. Great place to learn about the forces of nature, wind, sea and river.

Beautiful location on the coast of Gulf of Riga in Pabaži, 20 minutes walk from Pabaži station.
The White dune is a natural sand dunes with numerous wooden benches with the sea view. Near the White dune there is a small river Inčupīte that changes its way to the sea every year. So by one side there's the Gulf of Riga, by the other silent banks of Inčupīte - that an amazing mix!
To get there from Riga you can take a train Riga Skulte and get off it in Pabaži. It will take about 35 minutes.

I was looking for Amber. Not really successful...

Why is all the places here all have paid parking? It’s ok if it’s really worth but the view is not even that beautiful

Spectacular place showing what the nature is capable of and at the same time how fragile it is. Forest path is leading to this place where you also can see beautiful nature of Latvia's seaside.

I loved it! There is a very nice view to the sea and the river which joins the sea. On the dune is a wooden walkway with a benches and viewing points.
The beach is very clean. This place is away from the city so it’s not crowded. Good place to rest and enjoy the sun!

One of the best Latvian natures trail along the coastline and magnificient pine wood. It's called also White Dune.
Wooden trail starts at begginig of the Saulktasti and passes along 3-5km.
Trail has picnic zone and benches.
Trail's starting point opens the adorable view to the coastline.
Highly reccomend to visit.
