La Cambe German War Cemetery, located near Omaha Beach in Normandy, is a peaceful and understated memorial to the 21,400 fallen German military personnel from World War II. The cemetery's somber granite grave markers and scattered maple trees create a poignant atmosphere. A central pathway leads to the "Kamaradengraben" topped by a basalt lava cross flanked by "Trauernde Eltern" statues.
Very impressive yet super modest. One of the best reminders why wars are useless..
R K — Google review
It’s a complete contrast compared to the American cemetery. The latter is in fact much better kept. They really want to keep their memory alive. On the other hand, the German cemetery is not as tidy which is bit sad because maybe some soldiers were sent to be killed and did not necessarily assent to the nazi ideology
Alex Char — Google review
Worth a stop. The German cemeteries are always a big contrast to the Allied cemeteries.
Visit the information centre first for an insight into how the cemetery came about and a few who are buried there. It was informative and interesting.
J B — Google review
A peaceful cemetery located near Omaha beach were fierce fighting occurred during the Allied Normandy landings of 1944. Other German dead were reinterred here after World War two from burial sites in surrounding areas and nearly 21,400 fallen military personnel now rest midst beautiful scattered maple trees. A central pathway leads to the huge "Kamaradengraben" summited by a basalt lava cross which poignantly is flanked by two "Trauernde Eltern" statues. Wandering amongst the rows of flat grave markers one becomes struck that Indeed some of those buried here far from their Fatherland were tragic victims of circumstance of their time, arising from the evil which was National Socialism!
Ezra Pankratz — Google review
This is a well kept cemetery, that has an informative display which contains personal stories about the soldiers involved.
Benjamin Moye — Google review
The cemetery itself is beautiful and the layout is poignant. The Visitors Center provides context to the occupation, the war, and the D-Day invasion. It is a very balanced interpretation, showing in great detail the atrocities committed by the Nazis, but also examining the humanity of individuals who died in Normandy. It provides a meaningful contrast to the American, British and Canadian cemeteries and memorials. A visit is highly recommended.

Very unique experience of visiting war cemetery 🪦🪦🪦
Joemon Thekkaekurikattukunnal — Google review
A very well kept cemetery of the fallen German soldiers during the Second World War. Very informative and rich in history. You get the feeling of lost life here. The 5 black monuments, with one bigger in the middle are graves of the soldiers. Usually, 3-4 were buried under each grave. Very peaceful. It's a recommended visit!
Stefan Mitikj — Google review
A must see for people who want to know the complete picture of about the second world war. This cemetery is made for the fallen soldiers who fought on the German. This is a good place to show you that there are no winners in war and that a war only knows death. I think both soldiers earn their respect. This is also an special place because this is the resting place of the tank ace Michael Wittmann.
Melvin Trilsbeek — Google review
Impressive cemetery for the German fallen soldiers of WW2.
Such a vast difference from the Maison Blanch World War One Cemetery.
The Canadian maple leaf memorial garden is a somber place to reflect.
Information Center gives some historical information and also includes a free public washroom.
Alex Dugal — Google review
A ln amazing peaceful place, many young people lie here peaceful under the trees and stars. Worth the visit, bit off the beaten track but highly recommended. Toilets are working, the information centre is getting a rebuild by the looks of it.

The German Military Cemetery at La Cambe is the largest of the six German cemeteries in Normandy. It was greatly expanded after the war when German casualties from all over Normandy were concentrated here.
Today, over 21,000 men lay in this beautiful and peaceful cemetery.
Simon Abercrombie — Google review
Quite a simple cemetery commemorating German war dead. A good presentation in the Welcome building, but not on the scale of the Allied memorials
Major Catholic pilgrimage site built from 1929 to 1951 with an interior of ornate mosaics & marble.
Great cathedral. Peaceful place.

Come pray in the great Basilica in Lisieux Normandy, supreme building with a stunning atmosphere and amazing architecture to come and look and admire, come inside to pray and worship and if needed ask for divine support from God himself came at 15.00 hours was not to busy to find a quiet spot and reflect on life

A beautiful basilica with St. Theresa and her parents relic. You could fill the holiness of the place. Visit to pray, learn more about God and holiness of life and St. Theresa
immaculata muoghalu — Google review
Few people still know about this holy place and for many it is still undiscovered ( I had a small trip from Paris to Lisieux by Train for one day) . This building is about a hundred years old and Pope John Paul II visited it for the first time. The type of building is a combination of modernity and traditional architecture with granite stones and paintings, as well as a large dome with the ability to reflect sound in the centre of building, At the top of the hill, beautiful and quiet and easy to access (on foot or by car) with parking and a boutique.
(I still don't know why different types of stars are used in the exterior design of the building)
hamed kian — Google review
A fascinating experience, with lots to reflect on and give thanks for in the life of St Therese of Lisieux. The cloister gets relatively few visitors, but it's the clearest glimpse of her longing for all people, even the worst of criminals, to find peace in God's love
Jeremy Parsons — Google review
Wow... wow... wow..... It was a fantastic and significant journey. Never considered inventing this place. I am so grateful that St. Theresa of Lisieux brought me to see her so I might be refreshed.

Wow, impressive. Really well worth a visit. Don't miss walking up the 300 steps to view the dome as well as outside to look over the view. it's €2 per adult and €1 for a child.

• Cost 💰: TGV 17€/person
• Parking 🅿️: Available ✅

• Activities : Follow the blue line drawn on the street and walk with st Therese to her old church, house, new church and where she died.
Reina Bou Khalil — Google review
Quite the trek by train from Paris to get here and it's BEAUTIFUL and worth it! You can no longer see the entire body of St Therese, but her relic is there inside the church. She's a modern Saint for the ages and a grata example of humility amd perseverance in the face of suffering

A very vast, impressive Cathedral. Pity the gift shop only sold french books. Definitely worth a visit.

Always an interesting place to bring visitors. An impressive structure with very nice parking area and easy access to the basilica. The mosaic work is incredible.

Beautiful and very imposing basilica finished in the 1950's and dedicated to the life of Saint Therese. Be sure to visit the crypt and the tableaux which commemorates the stages of Saint Therese's life from birth to her death at the age of 24. All entries are free.

This church has great access for handicap entry.
Her whole life story is shared in pictures of her from childhood through her years in the cloister.
There is a gift shop there for those who would like a memento.

The Basilica of Sainte-Thérèse of Lisieux is a Roman Catholic church and minor basilica dedicated to Saint Thérèse of Lisieux. Located in Lisieux, France, the large basilica can accommodate 4,000 people and, with more than two million visitors a year, is the second largest pilgrimage site in France, after Lourdes.
Thomas Jeyakumar Joyel — Google review
One of the most beautiful basilicas I have ever seen!! It is well worth the extra walk up the outside backstairs to the stations of the cross. That you will find the burial site of St Therese's parents.
Richard Ferris — Google review
This is a large building dedicated to St. Teresa of Lisieux. There is a lot to see on the site beside the church itself. Inside the church is beautifully decorated with mosaics of many saints and holy images. Because of the size it wasn't crowded or noisy inside despite the number of visitors.
I would have liked to have been able to spend a couple of hours here but wasn't able to.
Zoo de Cerza is a wildlife park that offers an exciting experience for visitors. It features a variety of animals including big cats, rhinos, kangaroos, and reptiles. The park also provides lodge accommodation for those who want to extend their stay. Visitors can enjoy up-close encounters with the animals and even have the opportunity to feed some of them. The park has well-maintained walkways and new features that enhance the overall experience.
Fantastic Zoo. Penalty to see and do. It is great how close you can get to the animal. Would definitely recommend a visit
Chris Ransom — Google review
Had a nice time at the Safari park. The day was cold and blustery and some of the animals were sheltering from the wind so didn't make an appearance. However we really enjoyed seeing those that braved the weather. The park was clean and accessible and there has obviously been a lot of work building new features, such as walkways, and maintaining existing ones. I recommend a visit, but maybe on a warmer day. Our highlight of the day was definitely the Gibbons' acrobatics! 🙂
Simon Taylor — Google review
Absolutely wonderful healthy looking happy animals with incredible huge habitats. The two walking routes allow you to see everything in an orderly way (save at least 3.5 hours for the two) and the walks were not strenuous (my 3 year old coped fine). The giraffes come right up within 20cm of you, the tigers also come very close and it’s honestly the best zoo I’ve ever been to. All the animals in Cerza have been bred in captivity but have fantastic homes with a lot of space to be away from the public when they want to be.
Charlotte Moseley — Google review
Absolutely fantastic place. We spent all day here with 2 young kids. Under 3's are free and adults are only 23 euros each. There's 2 different routes with lots to see on each and you get much closer to the animals than any other zoo I've been to. The red route is definitely easier to navigate than the yellow one. There's also a train which takes you round different parts of the park you don't see while walking which is included in the price . If you're in the area then definitely make the trip you won't be disappointed.
Mark Farquharson — Google review
Probably the best zoo/animal park I've been to. Huge enclosures for animals, but then pathways are well designed so you can see them. My advice with small children: walk the yellow path first (about 2 hrs), then see the red path on the "train", it covers a similar area.
Dino Scaramanga — Google review
A nice open zoo with large area’s for the animals. The red path is a bit more difficult and steep to walk with a stroller but certainly doable. The safari train is loud and only shows a few animals there not visible from the path.
The burgers with fries I wouldn’t recommend, the fries were flat and the bun a bit soggy.
Joris Spruyt — Google review
The best zoo I have been so far. It is huge, you can spend an entire day here without getting bored. It’s also surrounded by the nature, not like those in the city, so it brings more atmosphere to the zoo. You can find any animal here and get close contact with them. The entry price is worth it, for all of the fun it can give you here!
Zhen Yu (BlancoBear) — Google review
Great experience at Cerza zoo. We never though it was possible to make a safari in Normandie
Very positively surprised: a lot of animals in a very large park. A lot to see, the little train is always appreciated by the kids and everything is clean and well organized.
Recommended!
Laurent Dumortier — Google review
If you are in the area or even passing by, this zoo is well worth the visit. The price of the ticket is relatively cheap for all the extras on offer - train rides, feeding animals and a petting area for the kids. We were lucky enough to have had the chance to hand feed the giraffes which in some zoo’s can cost hundreds. An amazing place and look forward to visiting again next year.

Have visited many Safaris in UK in the last 20 years but this one stands out by many factors. I must say, never been to so many amazing animals that close. So much variety of animals. Foot safari is so amazing and exceptionally well facilitated by making high level platforms, bridges, viewing areas and walking routes.
Just amazing. Full marks
M. Fawad Ansari — Google review
Incredible safari park! It's beautiful to see how well the animals are doing. No apathetic behaviour, just animals living in semi freedom. All other zoo's should look at this one to see how they should build their park and care for the animals. There was one big irritation factor, wasps everywhere. Really annoying. But that is not something you can control in summer in France.
Rue du Gros Horloge is a renowned promenade known for its ancient constructions, boutiques and an exceptional astronomical clock with a rich past. This street runs exclusively for pedestrians and boasts of buildings that have been standing tall for centuries, reflecting the city's history and heritage. Visitors can explore the shops offering diverse products while admiring the beautiful architecture of the structures around them.
The Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Rouen is a stunning example of Gothic architecture, built in the 12th century. It replaced an earlier Romanesque church and underwent construction over several centuries due to various obstacles. This historic monument showcases its beauty through Claude Monet's paintings, which highlight its significance. Visitors can take tours of the cathedral, including a visit to the remains of a crypt from a previous Roman structure located on-site.
This Cathedral is an amazing piece of art built and rebuilt over eight centuries from 8th to 16th century, with an earlier one standing there as early as 4c. Therefore, you can spot very different architecture styles best seen in its three towers each in different style - Gothic, Flamboyant and Renaissance.
The facade is simply astonishing being the one of the best I've ever seen, and I saw hundreds of them all over the world.
It's grandeur is overwhelming compared to Rouen size which is in fact a small city. The interiors are pretty much the same as many others in this part of France with huge tall Gothic arches, fantastic stained glass and rose window.
On the square in front of it, by the right tower is a plaque signing the place from where the famous impressionist Monet painted many paintings of the Cathedral in various weather conditions and different times of year.
Another spot of his from where he painted, as well a beautiful place to capture the entire Rouen panorama is Cote Saint Catherine (see that review), from where you can clearly see how this Cathedral dominates the city.
Dejan Braki — Google review
One of the most popular landmark in Rouen. The cathedral is accessible at any time and you’ll be delighted to discover how big it is. The statues, the window glasses. Come in and enjoy
Eric Jetner — Google review
In the early evening (in August) the sunlight falls beautifully on the cathedral. Next to the cathedral there is the cathedral’s garden that is worth a look.
There is an impressive light show (Google Rouen Cathedral Light Show and check the hours - until September 19, 2021). The light show (with two creations) plays twice in succession. We also stayed for the second showing and the big crowd was gone. It felt more like a unique experience.
Matthieu Covemaeker — Google review
What a place. Visually stunning, some seriously old stained glass windows. Free entry. They are renovating various parts at the moment - but there is a lot of original architecture which is amazing.

Very pretty on both the inside and out. We visited rollo's tomb and got to take a look at a ceremony, yet, somehow, my feet started burning when i set foot inside. Doesn't that happen for everybody though?

Rouen is a beautiful city in the Normandy region of France. This city although small is one of the prettiest I have ever visited.
The cathedral is just one of the city’s rich architecture. The cathedral is imposing and can be seen from various points in the city. It is nice inside but fairly modest than cathedrals and churches in Italy.
The surrounding buildings are beautiful. Rouen is a place you have visit to see it for yourself. You can reach here from Paris by train. It is fairly easy to get there by car as well.
It’s free entry with a small gift shop inside.

Absolutely stunning cathedral amazing stone decorations/carvings on the outside and the inside of the building
Got to admire the detail and pure talent of the stone masons
The stained glass is stunning
I'm not religious but you really don't have to be to admire and be in awe of this truly beautiful cathedral
It's open to the public and free of charge to go inside and look around or pray if you want
But it does kindly ask for a voluntary donation.. Please do
As this helps preserve this truly important
Piece of history for the future
Inside it has a number of chapels and tributes to various saints
My reason for my venture inside was to see Saint Jeanne of arc as Rouen is steeped in her history
But many other saints are prominent inside
Words truly do not describe this cathedral and I could go on and on about the stained glass windows
The high arc ways that go so high inside
The highly carved alters etc..
But one thing I must mention is don't miss the 15th century stone staircase..
So if in Rouen this cathedral is a must see
mark smith — Google review
One of the most famous sights in Rouen, the Cathedral is really imprssive. The building is huge and one of the tallest in Europe. It began to be built nearly 900 years ago, and survived fires, wars, hurricanes, etc. It was painted by Monet and other artists. The entrance is free. You can see tombs of some of the rulers of Normandie inside.

Beautiful church lovely lady in the church shop spoke English very helpful I asked her to open cabinets and she was very helpful. Lovely to see so many lit candles in memoriam. Considering it was badly damaged during the war the restoration has to be admired as it blends in so you really can't tell.

The vast cathedral with notable spires seen across the river from all over the quaint little town. Beautiful is least to say. A must visit if you are walking around Rouen.
They do guided tour and price is nominal. Climb up the tower to have a great view of whole city.
Walkable distance from city center

Rouen cathedral is a must see when in Rouen, in the summer months , they have an interactive sound and light show beamed onto the front of the cathedral every evening, something which may have Richard the lion heart (buried inside) turning in his grave. The cathedral is grand , with a decent array of normandy medieval tombs and good stained glass. There is, though, something that doesn't quite elevate it to say Amiens cathedral architecturally although the historic tombs more than make up for that in many ways. The light show outside in the evening is well worth a look so do come back to take a look at that too.
kevin mills — Google review
Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen stands as a magnificent testament to Gothic architecture, a marvel that captivates visitors with its intricate details and soaring spires. Beyond its architectural grandeur, what makes the experience truly magical is the enchanting Christmas market that unfolds in front of the cathedral. The market adds a festive charm, transforming the square into a winter wonderland of twinkling lights, seasonal treats, and artisanal crafts. The juxtaposition of the cathedral's timeless beauty with the lively holiday spirit of the market creates a unique and memorable atmosphere, making a visit during the Christmas season to Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Rouen a truly delightful and festive experience.

Pretty cool place to visit. Beautiful area with plenty to see without paying to enter museum, but worth the entry fee. Easily can spend 2 hours or more just walking around and enjoying everything. Be prepared for uphill walking. Very limited parking (5 cars at the top), but there is free parking near the beach which is about a 10 - 15 minute walk to the chateau. Defiently worth visiting.

For sure the visit of Dieppe Castle is a must in Dieppe. Nice castle, excellent view on the city. The museum itself, I mean, okay if you have time, if you will miss it, not a problem. Thanks to the city of Dieppe, parts of the castle you can see without buying a ticket. Anyways, best is the view…

The Medieval Festival was very interesting, a lot of shows, shops, food, the museum was open for free, a lot of music, many beautiful disgused persons.

The Chateau is a lovely place, it’s very old & historic. The view from there is fantastic! The tickets are around 5 euros small children don’t pay. There’s the bottom part of the castle available, you cannot access towers. It’s like a museum & gallery in one. There’s an Ivory museum too. But gutted as there wasn’t an English guide to read so didn’t actually learn anything about the history of this place. It’s open currently 10-12 & 2-5 and shut otherwise.
There’s free toilets on the premises, it has entrances from the bottom & top of the castle. I wish the people working there were a bit more pleasant but as a sightseeing & historical place it’s lovely. Family friendly. Recommended to visit if in Dieppe.

If you say you close at 12, you close at 12. You dont rush the visitors out of the door at 11:40 after you have been opened for less than 2 hoirs and for sure you learn some english if you have any pretense of being some sort of a museum guide.
The museum is too focused on its own history and nothing else. Nothing really stood out, but the whole atmosphere created by the staff was unwelcoming and tense

For me, Treport's funicular is a way of transport that you must to test at less one time in your life. Day and night funicular give you an incredible panorama of Treport's beach and town. You can take funicular for free and cross cliff easily. It’s good way to avoid the big hill to join cliff’s high if you want walk on the cliff. If you come in car, it’s preferable to park you in high of cliff and after go down. If you have time go behind high funicular because you have sort of point of view with binoculars.

Yes, it is a beautiful place and you can watch birds BUT unfortunately on that day it was not that good. There were some swans, ducks and the usual animals. Aim to get there at 10AM when it opens. Plenty to see. If there is a coach load of school children ahead of you don't bother, come back another day as they will scare off everything. Yes I am a grumpy old man.

Not cheap, but a great experience. Fantastic bird life, accessible and the guides at the hides were very friendly and helpful. Some iconic species, spoonbills, stork, avocet, hobby. Bring your binoculars, but you can also hire them. Very popular with families and great to see children excited about wildlife. Highly recommended

Fantastic trip, such a joy rumbling through the beautiful countryside on a steam train. Great price 4 of us for about 60 euro return. If you have children, grab the first or last carriage (they swap engines around half way) you can stand right beside the train drivers.

It takes the train 1 hour to get to Le Crotoy while by car is just 20minutes. The views from the train are more or less the same as from the road.
Le Crotoy is not big deal; Valery sur Somme is much, much better.

It's already not easy to understand anything: the line goes from Cayeux to Crotoy but after 08/26 only from St Valery to Crotoy. For the same price, 15€ per person return. You then have to choose whether you take a round trip or a round trip without necessarily knowing the options other than the train (crossing the bay on foot for example and returning by train). Choosing steam or diesel but without really having a choice because it depends on the schedule. In short, at reception they don't explain anything to us other than insisting on having our time of return because we have to choose in advance. We were lucky the train was not full but clearly with a crowded train in times of covid and given that everyone is screaming, wandering and taking off their masks despite the drivers' reminders, I do not recommend. Especially since 1 out of 2 carriages remains closed because they are the "1st class carriages" (no idea how we reserve them) and if they open them the carriages are damaged by the passengers...
The landscapes are nothing extraordinary, you don't see the bay but some beautiful lights all the same. On the other hand, you drive about 25 to 30 minutes over a 1 hour journey because the train stops at Noyelles station then the locomotive detaches and re-connects at the other end of the train to leave on another track and that takes time. We made Saint Valery towards Crotoy at 2:30 p.m. arriving around 1:30 p.m. time to park and use the toilets. Arrival at Crotoy at 3:30 p.m. Return to the station around 5 p.m. for a departure at 5:30 p.m. It's short but it allows you to see the bay and walk around a bit.
(Original)

La Cathédrale Saint-Pierre, located 60km north of Paris in Beauvais, is a stunning example of Gothic architecture. Construction began in 1225 and the cathedral boasts an intricate facade and medieval stained glass. It holds the record for the highest ceiling in a gothic choir. Despite being unfinished, it remains a breathtaking sight with its ambitious design. The cathedral also features a complex astronomical clock that displays not only time but also planetary movements and starry night skies.
Amazing gothic church. It was a pleasure to attend the mass. Parts of the church are under renovation. Worth visiting and going through the history.
Mano Mathew — Google review
Shocked to find out the astronomical clock has been forcibly stopped and is NOT working due to the new priest requesting silence during his mass ! It's a unique mechanical piece of art, 1000 years old that was precise to the second; displaying tides, the night sky and tons of other beautiful things.
Egomaniac much ?
Absolutely scandalous lack of respect for cultural heritage.

Beauvais is perfect for a quick stroll, you’ll find some cafes and bakeries near the cathedral too. The cathedral itself is (as all French cathedrals are) very impressive, towering over the whole town.

Its designers had the ambition to make it the largest gothic cathedral in France - ahead of Amiens' gem.
Victim of two collapses, one in the 13th century, the other in the 16th century, it remains unfinished today; only the choir and the transept have been built. The planned nave of the cathedral was never constructed.
(As an outstanding example of the Vanitatum Vanitas) today Saint Pierre of Beauvais is the highest cathedral of the 7 Picardy cathedral wonders.
note:
Although it has no main nave & towers you can visit the famous astronomical clock inside {paid feature}

Beautiful Cathedral which surely worths your time to visit. I think it has a unique "clock" which is grandios and beautifully crafted, which shows not just time, but also planet view to the sun, view of the stars in a night sky (planesphere celeste).
Damoc Cristian — Google review
A very beautiful cathedral of the 13th century. Beautiful gothic architecture.
It has the highest Gothic choir in the world.
At some point in time, in the 16th century the cathedral of Beauvais was, with its tower, the highest human construction in the world.
It was designed with the ambition to make it the largest cathedral in France and you get the feeling when entering the Cathedral.
Demetra Panaretou — Google review
Wow what a magnificent cathedral. Awesome to visit and marvel at the construction which has stood for centuries. I have to say this that one need’s to behave and dress in a respectful manner as in any place of worship. There is a souvenir shop here and it’s wheelchair 🦽 accessible there are no toilets here. Well worth a visit when your journey takes you to or through Beauvais.
Dave Pearson — Google review
Now this is a cathedral that’s both impressive and quiet within. Worth a visit to wander round and in many ways, much better than those in Paris which are far busier.
Robert Saville — Google review
I was really surprised how damaged and of weak structure this building is. It may have the highest ceiling but architectural it's a mess. Metal to support the weak structure everywhere on the outside. Massive wooden support constructions in the inside.
The entire building describes the weird wish to have the biggest cathedral without considering aestetical aspects.
If you wish to see a perfect cathedral, I would suggest visiting Amiens.
The cathedral of Notre Dame d'Amiens is a 13th-century Gothic edifice famous for its lavish decoration and carvings, with two unequal towers. It is considered one of the best examples of Gothic art, and is one of the largest medieval cathedrals in the world. With a surface area of 7,700 square meters, it could easily fit a football pitch.
One of the most beautiful cathedrals I have seen in my life due to the fact that it is quite old, with preserved orginal patterns and not very well-known! It has an amazing exterior and also an interior that you can enter for free! 😌

OK, I like visiting historic churches and cathedrals, so unless I find it hideously expensive or in a very poor state when it is advertised as something wonderful I'm going to give it a good review.
But as Cathedrals go, it was particularly impressive. A UNESCO world heritage site it is one of the largest 'classic' Gothic churches of the 13th century.

Amazing Roman Catholic cathedral in almost perfect condition! Very interesting interior.. I saw the portrait of Jesus in very different styles, there’s a labyrinth in the center of the ground. Baroque sculptures.
The area was completely destroyed during WWI, but the church was kept untouched thanks to the peoples protection.
The 300-acre Les Hortillonnages garden is a beautiful, well-maintained example of a modern water garden. The gardens are located on swampy islands in the Avre and Somme rivers, making it an accessible tourist attraction only by water. The gardens are home to many varieties of plants, including roses and lilies, and feature canals interspersed with fertile fields. Saturdays are a good time to visit the market where you can buy produce from the garden.
Really nice attraction! Unfortunately they don't have tours in English but even just swimming through cannals was quite idyllic

The boat trip was fine, although commentary was only in the French language. Gardens were a disappointment. Wild bits are totally unmanaged, meaning mainly stinging nettles and stagnant water. Lots of blocked off channels marked as private. Predominantly small privately owned shacks/huts, the majority of these are unkempt or derelict. There is no access to the public. No car park, no access for disabled. There is a toilet.

Guide is terrific and explains everything and has a deep knowledge in this area, especially how to protect and sustain this beautiful area. They use electric boats which is a better choice for the protection of the area. The most important is that they accept my little dog to be on board!

Excellent museum with audio visual and actual exhibits of the battle of the Somme. The museum is in Albert is close to the front line and is next the Basilica which was raised to the ground before and after the battle. Very informative with English French ab German translations. The museum is built in an underground tunnel which gives an eerie feel but adds to it overall delivery. We’ll worth a visit as a starting point any SOMME tour as it sets the scene well and gives great context

Very nice. If you want to get a feel for what took place around the Great War, this is a good place to visit. It’s built in an old air-raid shelter, a large under ground tunnel. This means that the place where you enter the museum is not the same as where you exit. So take note of where you park!

If you need to gain an understanding of the conditions humans waged war across France from 1914 to 1918, this is your first point to start. The entrance is a nondescript plain door squat beside the basilica, there is free parking nearby next the church, the foyer is tiny by museum standards, guarded by mounted cavalry, ranks of soldiers from regiments local and far flung. Canadians, South Africans, Australian, New Zealand, Algerian, French, German with British. On display are ranks of brass shell cases reworked into mundane or exotic vases, umbrella stands maybe works of art created from violence.
The museum is a long tunnel underground reached from a flight of brick stairs.
Case after case house the rusted war bric a brac parts of rifles, caltrop (vicious four way spikes designed to maim horses or foot soldiers) water canteens, parts of helmets. The story of the campaign local on the Somme or nearby focus on the regiments, tactics and technology used by the different forces, numerous oiled rifles, French, British, American. Bullets, machines guns; trench construction, living conditions. Finally a gruesome run-through tunnel the loud sounds explosions of war you'll not wander along but run for your life.

Very unique and interesting museum in the centre of Albert. There are some steep stairs to get down to the museum so could be difficult for anyone with mobility issues. Didn't notice if they had a lift or not.
Unusual layout in that it uses the tunnels from WW2 to show all the exhibits. Lots of interesting items to see from the British, French and German armies of The Somme conflict.

Carrière Wellington is a site of historical significance that features underground tunnels which were strategically used in 1917. The location offers guided tours and exhibits that provide detailed information about its history. Visitors can enjoy an educational and engaging experience with attention paid to small details to ensure a smooth visit. Guided tours are available in both French and English, with the guide effortlessly switching between languages to cater to their audience's level of understanding.
One of the best experiences I’ve had in a long time. Educational and engaging. One can notice that lots of attention has been paid to the small details to offer a smooth visitor experience.
The guided tour was offered in French and in English with our guide switching effortlessly between both and adapting the level of the explanations to the audience. We had kids with us and they were able to follow and understand everything.
The audio guides fragments provide complementary explanations and are nicely woven in the visit between the guide’s explanations.

This is a fantastic attraction. Medieval quarry that was forgotten and then rediscovered during WWI, which allowed the British to interconnect a whole swathe of quarries, under the Arras region. The tour is well-thought out and uses projectors and headset, to give information and act out soldiers' letters home, to really give a feel for what it must have been like, whilst waiting for the whistle to blow for the eventual attack that was launched on the German lines there. A worthwhile visit.
The Museum of the Great War, an up-to-date establishment created by Ciriani, showcases both military and civilian memorabilia from World War I. The museum provides a pleasant experience as there are plenty of intriguing artifacts on display and a well-planned timeline. Additionally, the informative film about the conflict adds to the richness of information provided in this excellent museum. Notably, there is also a good account of the castle's historical background presented in conjunction with its role during WWI within the museum.
Excellent museum full of interactive activities and memorabilias available. Good for all generations.

The highlights were Otto Dix's graphical work, depicting the horrors of the trenches. Five stars!
And then the movie at the entrance, going through, summing up the patchwork of alliances and unions of countries, kingdoms, states that existed / made up a very different picture of the Europe we know now. Interesting!
The rest resampled a motley collection of uniforms and curiosities.
Jan W — Google review
An excellent adventure into the minds and lives of those who fought in and lived through the great war. Also, comparing the recruitment strategies used in their desperation to the American recruitment strategies was very enlightening and a bit funny.
The Dix collection is a must-see: it privides a raw, heart-rending venture into the tormented mind of a brave soul who fought both enemies internally and externally. I am truly grateful to have experienced this. (Out of respect, I did not take pictures, plus I may have been a little rattled).

I found the building in which the Museum is based more interesting than the Museum itself. The cafe was closed when we were here (not mentioned on the entrance sign, it's being rebuild), and interactive displays were turned off due to Covid, including VR headsets, bit strange since in the Verdun Museum, similar headsets were active and cleaned.
Was hoping to see a bit more interesting stuff, but felt more like a library, lot of empty spaces and no character. Boring imo.

very well done, if a bit word dense, ww1 museum. fantastic display of different equipment and uniforms juxtaposed with propaganda posters and art from all parties involved.

Fantastic museum at Peronne. It's well worth visiting.
Really informative exhibits, and a few bits and pieces can be touched and encouraged to try on, like helmets & body armour.
I'd recommend buying a joint ticket with the Thiepval Museum as it is a lot cheaper to get them together; they also offer a discount for service personnel or veterans.
There is a free car park outside and many restaurants on the main square just in front of the main entrance.

This is a really great museum and a lovely facility for visitors to Peronne. The castle’s history is interesting in itself and the WW1 exhibits, films and collections were just what we wanted. One 30 minute film was only in French but not sure what we could’ve done about that! Otherwise English and German translations were available. €10 entry for adults. Bike racks would be an improvement.
Julie Abel — Google review
It is a good museum for familys and children. It never gets too bloody (except for the part by the german painter...hush hush kids) and it has a good storyline and explains many things in a way which is easy to understand.WW1 nerds and techfreaks will probably miss some hardware and more tactically orientated storyline. They can take it as a supplement to other places ,and enjoy the exhibitions of uniforms plus gear. The museum-shop has a lot of cartoons (plus books and stuff) about the great war in French.
The Louvre-Lens Museum is a contemporary gallery that showcases artworks from the Louvre in Paris, as well as temporary exhibits. The Galerie du Temps offers a unique and minimalistic display of art from Europe, the Near East, Egypt, and India. Unlike traditional museums, the artworks are not hung on perimeter walls but are arranged geographically and chronologically to create a three-dimensional experience for visitors.
Loved this, a capsule collection almost - showcasing world history in an accessible way, with some English interpretation boards. Free entry for all and a lovely little gift shop. Outside there are further boards explaining the history of the site as a coal mine, with a view of the famous pyramids of coal waste. Inside there is also a model of the site as it was as an industrial coal mine.

I had always wanted to visit the Louvre-Lens and I finally went on a Sunday. The bus lines were not running, so I had to walk from the train station. It is a very long walk, longer than what they advertise on the museum's website. The museum is in a beautiful building, and the visit is relatively short. They have relatively few, but very interesting works of art spanning several centuries. The gallery is one large open space, and I noticed kids get less bored with this configuration compared to a regular museum. The indoor picnic area is quite convenient, I strongly recommend bringing your own food. Oh, and it is free. Worth a visit!

I thought this museum is a great idea to spread arts culture to a depressed city. I guess I was disappointed by its size, they should call it micro Louvre,
... 2 rooms compared to the 450,000 rooms in Louvre! I was hoping for a bit more...

This is a wonderful place to visit. I loved it! The very open plan design of the museum was so inviting and the special exhibition of Fantastic Animals with the masked attendants in the foyer was spectacular. I would have given the visit 6 stars out of 5 were it not for the dreadful parking facilities. We drove around the nearby residential streets for way too long (the offsite recommended parking lots were small and full). If you build it, they will come. If they come, you need to provide parking.

A small but very impressive collection from the Louvre located around an hour away from Calais.
Impressive building design and architecture and contents spanning human development to the present day.
Parking available close to the museum, recommend to allow 1-2 hours for a comprehensive visit.

The gallery of time is fascinating (from Egypt to Romanticism), highly didactic and can be accessed for free. Temporary exhibitions can be accessed for a reasonable fee. They are wonderful, with all the resources of Le Louvre behind.

Small museum in the village of Lens in the north of France. Displays a number of items from the main Louvre in Paris. For school students and local residents a wonderful way to get ideas about who we are, where we come from, why we are who we are.

Very nice and interesting museum. Not too big ,ideally if you have about 2-3 hours time. The permanent collection is free, the special temporary collection is 11 EUR but always worth it! Ability for a drink in the main hall, and a nice museum shop.

Amazing building to begin with, impressive architecture. Once you get in, the non-permanent exhibitions are always worth the trip, stenography at its best, and multiple experiences available on top of the main exhibition. Must go !

Great collection. The grounds are lovely too. I also enjoyed the special eclair in the cafe. It was made to celebrate the mythical beasts exhibition - which annoyingly for me started the day after my visit and would have been exactly what I’m into. Despite my timing a great gallery.

It’s hard to get a car between the train station and the museum, so factor 30 min of walking time each way. The museum is nice, not as big as i thought. If you don’t appreciate a good Sanaa building, you might be little disappointed with the exhibit alone.

Unexpected treasure. We didn’t know it exists till we went to this area. They should do more promotion. And only one, it would be nice if there will be one pyramid infront of the museum 😃🥴😉

Zoo de Lille is a compact and lush animal park that houses various birds, mammals, and reptiles in themed sections. Situated near the charming city of Lille in northern France, this modern art museum boasts an impressive collection of paintings by renowned artists like Miro, Klee, Leger, Cezanne, Braque, van Dongen, Picasso, Modigliani, Masson, and others.
Always a pleasant time. I really like the fact that they have a lot of birds on display in very nice enclosures.

Nice zoo with not too much variety of animals. Feel like they have more birds but I am not too into them. It would be perfect for a day out with the children, as I saw mostly family with babies and toddlers there. Without the Lille city pass, it's only 4.5e for adult fee, which was worth it.

Small but nice zoo. We went in the morning so it wasn't too crowded. But I guess the monkeys were still sleeping. The entrance is €4.5. 25 minute walk from the city center/train station. Good activity to do on a Sunday in Lille.

A nice city zoo that is smaller than the landscaping would make you think. There were several areas under renovation on the day of our visit, but a nice way to spend an afternoon in Lille. There is no beer in the bar area, but not a major issue, I am assured the pineapple ice cream is amazing, there was none to share...
Gerry O'Mahony — Google review
Small zoo with reasonable pricing and lots of animals to see! We particularly enjoyed the red pandas and the giant tortoises :) The enclosures had good information on the signs in English and in French, and the layout of the zoo was easy to understand even without a map. We liked how a lot of the habitats had more than one animal in!
Only four stars as some of the enclosures felt very small (arctic foxes and fennec foxes in particular) and some felt a little unclean - stagnant dirty water surrounding the monkeys, for example. Of course, the monkeys don't swim in it, but it wasn't particularly pleasant to walk past as a guest.
We still had a good time though, and we'll be coming back!

A nice little zoo with a good variety of animals (reptiles, birds and mammals) to keep the kids entertained. Takes about an hour to walk through (9 and 10 y/o walking pace). No pet dogs are permitted at the zoo.

A great little zoo with a wide variety of animals for its size. There is a small shop for refreshments half way round. We spend 4 hours here but you only really need 2/2.5 to see everything leisurely. The entrance fee was very cheap €6 each and we didn’t have to queue although when we left a long queue had formed so I suggest going earlier in the day. The animals seemed to have ample space and well looked after.
James Pollock — Google review
A great variety of exotic animals, I expected to find white and black pandas but there's was a different type of pandas the one in the image.
Check the map to see all sorts of animals available in the Zoo.
Your visit should last at least 1 hour and a half so you can see all the sites.
For the tickets we paid 6 euros for adults and 4 euros of you have kids.
Recommended for families, kids and groups

Good for a quick trip to see some great animals in an afternoon or morning. Food and drink reasonably priced. Facilities were clean. Entry price was reasonable. A little bit difficult to find at first in the middle of a park- it would be useful for more signs to direct you to the entrance.

I visited on a weekday, but even though it was during summer holidays, the zoo was relatively empty. I enjoyed the quiet atmosphere, though, and it was relaxing to stroll through leisurely. I enjoyed the wide variety of animals they had, and I was also glad because enclosures seemed large enough and organically designed.
I was unaware before I visited, but this zoo also has my favorite animal, the Manul/Pallas cat!! It pretty much made my day

The animals there looked safe and like they actually take good care of them.
Except the fact that the kids are actually disturbing them with loud noises and trying to get the animals' attention, this is a good place to visit.

I absolutely recommend it.
There are some animals up close!
One important fact is the animals look good. The tiny ones such reptiles and little birds have small spaces.
You can enter a habitat with large birds, and the the primates part is lovely, I recommend you wait and see the charming way of Gibbons walk 🐒 ✨

Very nice zoo for families. Most Important: they have a selection of animals we have not Met anywhere else. That’s probably the best reason to go there. 15€ for a family of 4 is very ok. Takes you about 1.5 hours to cover everthing.

What a great zoo. At €6 it's a steal. The ground beef bird was sensational, what a character. And don't get me started on the Superb Starling. Unmissable. It certainly lives up to it's name. We saw the biggest ducks I've ever seen. The gibbons were very active. A great day out for brachiation fans.

The Mining History Centre is a former colliery that has been transformed into a museum showcasing the history of mining in the region. Visitors can explore the underground tours and view the machinery used during that time. The experience is realistic, transporting visitors back in time. Plan for at least 3 hours to fully appreciate everything on offer and wear comfortable shoes as it involves walking. We liked our visit at the museum. Everything is in French and they offer an audio tour in several languages.
The audio tour is not quite tourist-childfriendly because of the highly detailed information, but our 8yr old picked up enough to get a grasp of what she was seeing.

The museum is so realistic, you have the feeling of going back to the past.
Count minimum 3hours for a full visit and wear comfortable shoes, it's important.🤪
There's a small shop for souvenirs, many other activities for almost all ages throughout the year.
If you're visiting the Nord-Pas-de-Calais, then you should definitely stop by this museum. It's worth your curiosity especially if you like history though this one isn't a joyful one.
To those who have read "Germinal" of Emile Zola, this museum is the best way to feel like you were present in those days, meanwhile many of us weren't even born when it all happened.😊

Really nice museum, with a very nice collection.
There are lots of stuff and info for small and big.
The entry to the "mine" is very informative.
If you plan to go plan atleast three hours to have time enough to get all the information. We spent nearly three hours with two children and did not manage to see it all.
The reason for only 4 stars is the missing information in English in the permanent exhibition.

Pairi Daiza is a 65-hectare park located on the grounds of a former Cistercian Abbey that houses over 5000 animals, including lions, pandas, koalas, gorillas and lemurs. The zoo features geographically themed areas inspired by various regions around the world. Visitors can explore recreated African stilt villages, East Asian temples and the largest Chinese garden in Europe.
Its a wonderful place, we enjoyed every minute in the zoo. Everything is tight and in order, nice restaurants and the most important thing, the animals look great and well maintained. My boys were excited to see pandas, wolves, bears, lions, giraffes, tigers and many more wonderful animals.

This is one of the most beautiful zoos in the World. We actually stayed here with the polar bears for a couple of nights and it was simply breathtaking. I have to say that for me the best part was the bats. It was simply amazing to be in there with them while they flew near you in all directions; this was superb. Plan on being here for at least a couple of days, there is so much to see and you don’t want to miss any of it. It took us two days to see everything and then spent the third day seeing all the things we loved the most. The park is simply beautiful and very clean. All the animals look happy and they have plenty of room to roam around. I can say that the food prices are a bit steep for what it is so maybe a great choice to bring your own lunch. There are plenty of areas around the zoo to have lunch. We signed the kids up to feed the elephants and this was a cool experience for them. Overall highly recommend, beautiful place.

The park is amazing ! And continuously improving !
Spent the night for the second time this year 😊 The first experience was so great we had to come back (and will come again) !
Staying in a lodge is expensive but totally worth it, because you can enjoy the park later at night and earlier in the morning, when the one-day visitors have left 🤩 The park gets calm and the animals start their night life, always a pleasure to observe 😌
Eating in the park is more than what you'd expect, some restaurants even offer more sophisticated menus, but comfort food can be found almost everywhere 😋 Don't forget location influences prices 😅
The whole park is a must-see ! But still try and plan your visits with the feeding schedule, that way observing animals is more entertaining! This can be done very easily, using the paper map given upon entrance or the app, both free-of-charge 😊
I strongly recommend visiting this zoological park, note that it has received multiple times the title of "Best Zoo of Europe" 🥇

From the beautiful grand entry of the place around the whole lovely park till our sleeping accommodations at the Paddling Bear - every step was greeted by a new sight and around every corner a new delight. I thoroughly enjoyed all three days in the park, including both breakfast and dinner at the restaurant Octopus.
Unfortunately, not all the shops were open, so we had to walk all the way back to the entry to get a cup of coffee. Nevertheless, the plants and animals all around were fantastic and I would love to return during another season.

Though pricy, definitely one of if not the biggest and most aesthetically pleasing zoos I have visited. The enclosures are large, varied and well-maintained, and the animals seem to be well-taken care of. I will note that there is so much to see that you simply cannot fully experience everything in just a single day. Then again, I would very much consider another visit.

Omg I wish to go back lot of times to the zoo. It’s not right to call Pairi Daiza a zoo. It’s rather a royal animal kingdom. You would get to see a variety of animals, birds, ambiences and habitats as per need of the animals. The place is huge so keep some good stamina to roam around but ensure you cover everything nicely and not miss out any of the beauty preserved inside. If you wish to frequently visit, the annual pass is a better option. Time flies inside there so plan the internal stuff nicely. Make the most out of the visit. And it’s cute to see animal’s getting feeded in their lunch times. If you are an animal lover, this place is heaven for you.

Best zoo in Belgium, you can observe lots of animals in a close distance. For many of them , especially the big ones like elephants or gorillas, they have very huge place to live in. The train is one thing you can’t miss, on the train you can take a good look to the elephants domain, witch what is hard to visit by foot. The whole zoo is base on a old monastery “Cambron” and it’s beautiful. The beer “Cambron” blonde, I like it very much also.

Most probably the best zoo experience. I can imagine that all zoos should be like this - proper zones for animals, and good conditions. This place is probably the closest you will get short of a full safari. Great experience for kids. All places are built to be easily visited by kids, most areas are accessible with strollers. I recommend a full day. There is enough parking for everyone. Be sure to pay for the parking when buying your entrance.

Pairi Daiza covers an expansive area of approximately 140 acres, making it one of the largest zoos in Europe. The park is divided into different themed areas, each representing a specific region or habitat, such as the African Savannah, Indonesian Archipelago, and Kingdom of Ganesha. This place is home to a diverse range of animal species from around the world. Visitors can encounter animals like elephants, giraffes, lions, tigers, pandas, gorillas, penguins, and many more. The zoo places an emphasis on providing spacious and natural habitats for the animals, allowing them to thrive in environments that closely resemble their natural habitats. Alongside the animal exhibits, Pairi Daiza features stunning botanical gardens with a vast collection of plants and flowers. The gardens are beautifully landscaped, showcasing various themed areas like the Japanese Garden, Chinese Garden, and Rose Garden. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks, admire the colorful displays, and experience a tranquil atmosphere.
These include ancient buildings, temples, pagodas, and other structures imported from different countries, creating an immersive experience reminiscent of a journey around there . The zoo is committed to the protection and preservation of endangered species, supporting various breeding programs and conservation projects worldwide. Additionally, educational activities and interactive exhibits are available to inform visitors about wildlife conservation and environmental awareness. Definitely one of the most beautiful zoos you can visit.
The entrance feels like Disneyland & throughout the whole park there are amazing buildings and landscapes. Animal enclosures are integrated in their surroundings.
The park has restaurants and there are places to sit everywhere.
Besides having pandas! the park has a very nice selection of animals. White tigers, beautiful birds, elephants, rhinos, etc.
The park app has a map which makes it very easy to locate everything you need. Sadly it only seems to be in French but it could be I missed a setting somewhere.
This is not a cheap outing: entrance, food, merchandise, etc all cost a fair amount of money. Bringing some drinks and sandwiches is not a bad idea.
However you can easily spend the whole day here if you want to see & do everything.
In my opinion, it's well worth the money considering how lovely this zoo is.

And the same when you check out.. just leave the bags in room, and you will get them in reception when checking out..

One of the best zoo I've ever been to in the world. It's worth every penny. They have pandas! And the attention to detail will blow your mind. It is the most unique zoo and it's huge.
Christine Butler — Google review
Actually, known as the one of the best zoos in Europe I had many expectations. And I was quite disappointed. It’s more like fun park than something showing real wildlife. It’s really cool for people looking for fun and something big, but I was just hoping for more natural vibes. And Christmas music playing around the whole area, even after Christmas was enough for me. The one thing that really gets me the wow was walrus, because I’ve never seen it. Next time, I’d prefer Zoo Leipzig, this is not worth so much money for me.

Love this place.
Yearly passes have also made life easier as we don’t try to do as much as possible in a day but take the time to relax and enjoy with the kids! Activities around St Nick were also fun and Christmas lights are a big hit too.

Nice and beautiful zoo and park. Many places for picnic, food corners, for chilling. And pandas 😍
Parking costs 10 euro per day and a lot of space for parking. Tip: animals more active after 15:00. Before, most of them were sleeping. Most of all we liked Chinese area, very beautiful 👍
Have a great time, guys 😉
Had a great time during the Christmas market...They ask for your COVID safe ticket at the entrance but that is totally understandable...Totally recommend, it's a beautiful spot to visit

It's always nice to see it, but especially during Christmas with the market. Do not forget to place your left hand on the head of the small monkey to give you luck. You can find it in the front wall of the city hall.

Great and very vivid place in the center of the city with a lot of nice places for a coffee, a lunch or simply a glass of wine. The statues of Plensa are unfortunately temporary but still without these great art works the main city square is highly recommended, during XMAS a XMAS fair and when I was there during the Easter period, a nice Easter setting was done.

If you are lucky you can see some beautiful decorations from the municipality during the different periods of time. Especially this summer they decorated it very well. I'd like to say well done to the Commune for this excellent job. You can also follow Ville de Mons instagram account to learn more about the events they organize at Grand-Place.

Went here twice. The first time, the grand place was filled with decorations and so many people were enjoying the installations. The second time around which was when there was lockdown and restaurants were closed. The area was clean and not much happenings but you could still see tourists.
Bois du Cazier is a UNESCO site that comprises two museums showcasing the history of industry and glassmaking on an industrial heritage site, along with a former coal mine. The staff is exceptionally polite and helpful, making it a must-visit destination. This historical place sheds light on the working conditions of people who provided energy for the country in earlier times.
Nice place to understand industrial changes and get some information about 1956 tragedy.

We spent most of the day here as there was so much to see. I loved the narrative guide; it was like a conversation between a lady and a gentleman personas who worked in the mine, so I found it alive and captivating.

Staff doesn't speak English at all, but the place is worth visiting, as it is the important site in Charleroi history as an industrial and mining city.
Rus?an Taran — Google review
- We saw people walking around with audio guides towards the end. we were not told this at the entrance.
- The proposed tour starts with an industrial museum and then a glass museum. This is all well and good, but I suspect that most people who visit a mining site come for the mining part, which comes at the end of that tour and when I got tired of reading the non-mining stuff. Moreover, the part about the mines is very sparsely developed. The video about the mining disaster, for example, was still reasonable, but it's in a corner behind a wall, where you could miss it! There should be much more focus and attention for this, so the 'logistics' on the site can be made much better in an easy way. For a Unesco world heritage site, this should actually be much better!

Excellent! Excellent! the parking lot was full so we parked in a nearby street, the entrance fee is valuable, kind staff speaks English, toilets are for free, the area is quite large, we walked independently with an electronic guide, many exhibits are related to mines and coal, machines, industry, electricity, short the film shows the history of the mine and industry and the minning accident, everywhere was clean, the spaces for visitors are outside and inside, you can spend about 2-3 hours there, interesting even for children, there is a cafe and a restaurant, I highly recommend it!

Excellent museum well worth visiting. It teaches you a lot about the industrial revolution and mining in this area and is very in depth with sub museums also inside such as a glass museum. The staff speak good English and the displays also are in perfect English. I spent 2 hours here so this is highly recommended. Free entry also.

UNESCO site of industrial heritage. Staff is very polite and helpful. Definitely worthy of your visit. Amazing to think in what conditions people lived and worked to provide energy for the country. It is also a place of a human tragedy which took lives of several hundred people.

One of the best museum experience! A must visit for all ages. Thanks to a great audio guide, recordings of a former miner and his sister let you introduce you the life of miners and revisit the tragedy of Marcinelle and its lessons for the future, as you walk through the places which became both source of glory and shame for the country. Very moving. You cannot walk out indifferent. Could not keep my tears.

The Manneken Pis is a bronze sculpture of a small boy urinating in a fountain. It is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Brussels and is an embodiment of Belgian humour and rebellious spirit.
Visited this place which is one of the tourist attractions of the city. The lanes and the surrounding showcase the old golden era of Belgium and city of brussels. Lot of old building and old rides are attractive. Many statues in this area symbolic to many beliefs of the people in the country. These lanes have many restaurants too where u can enjoy waffles and other food items. U also can have horse cart ride and enjoy the street musicians there performing in front of crowd.

This is also a must do if you come to Brussels....but don't expect it to be huge and magnificent..... it's actually really small. Small doesn't mean unrelevant, or to be disregarded. It's like an awkwardness!
This little guys is being dressed differently all the time. And the streets to to it are beautiful

A small statue of a naked boy child pissing is kept in the famous square. Has a historical significance.
The original statue is kept in the Belgium museum as it was stolen so many times. This one's a replica.
And there's always a huge crowd to watch this statue. The irony is there isn't a single restroom available nearby, if you felt like pissing!
There are many shops lined on the road towards the Statue from the Grand Square, you can't miss the crowds.
A restaurant right next to the statue has a huge queue as well for people wanting to fine here.
I loved a Lace shop exactly diagonal to the Statue. It has lovely white & Black lace objects like handkerchief, decorative items, artifacts, etc made from white Belgian lace which was once a very handy, delicate & famous Art form. I bought myself a White laced Umbrella for thirty Euros from this shop as I am a big fan of hand made articles, as I come from India.

I wonder why so many people gather to see this little statue of a boy pissing! It is a success of promoting a city! They prepare different clothes for the boy on special occasions and you can see its previous clothes in a museum just a fifty meters up the street from the statue. To avoid crowds, visit the statue early in the morning

The Delightful Charm of Manneken Pis
Manneken Pis, the tiny bronze statue, is a delightful gem nestled in the heart of Brussels. Despite its modest size, the playful spirit and quirky personality of this little guy bring joy to visitors. The tradition of dressing him in various costumes adds a whimsical touch to the experience, reflecting the city's sense of humor and creativity. While it may not be a monumental landmark, Manneken Pis holds a special place in Brussels' cultural tapestry, reminding us that even the smallest things can leave a big impression.

Icon of Brussels, small than expected but interesting tourist point. Unfortunately I did not visited in one of the special costumes were used, however is the same street you can find a place that you have all costumes exposure. Interesting fact, the original one is in a museum, the one on the street is a replica.

30/04/22: having been to Brussels 4 times, it is only in the last few years that I have documented places I've visited, as a part of my Google legacy. This time in Brussels I was celebrating my Stag Do with 18 friends. Probably one of the most famous photo opportunities in the whole of Brussels. Scout Day today, hence the little wee lad was eventually dressed as a Boy Scout!

From everything I’ve seen here in Belgium, Mannekin Pis sums it up. I don’t understand how this became emblematic of this city but it embodies the charm and overall fun Brussels is. It’s really cute but a bit overrated. The statue is really small. I was there a few times during a day just to check the if the dress is different, but I realised that it’s one costume per day from 9am to 6pm. Close to the Grand Place, iconic place for Brussels

Everyone knows how tiny it is in real life🤭 When we visited The Order of the Friends of Manneken Pis (I think) was hosting some sort of induction ceremony, and had it dressed up in a robe and hat so kinda obscured anyone’s view. But it was a friendly gathering nonetheless.

The Grand Place (French: [ɡʁɑ̃ plas]; "Grand Square"; also used in English) or Grote Markt (Dutch: [ˌɣroːtə ˈmɑr(ə)kt]; "Big Market") is the central square of Brussels, Belgium, and widely considered one of the most beautiful squares in the world. Here's a breakdown of why it's worth visiting.
The Grand Place is a stunning ensemble of baroque guildhalls, representing the wealth and power of the Brussels guilds in the 17th century.
The ornate facades, with their intricate details, sculptures, and gilding, are a feast for the eyes.
Two prominent buildings flank the square: the Gothic Brussels Town Hall with its towering spire and the neo-gothic Maison du Roi (King's House), now housing the Brussels City Museum.

Initiated around 1837, the project led by the young architect Jean-Pierre Cluysenaer aimed to revitalize a disadvantaged neighborhood by constructing a building that would accommodate residential units, shops, cultural venues, and recreational areas. Construction commenced in 1846, and the official inauguration occurred on June 20, 1847, with the presence of Leopold I.
The place formerly known as the Umbrella of Brussels was designed in the Florentine Renaissance style. Its most notable feature is the ingenious glass roof, supported by a series of self-supporting arches. The roof is adorned with fish-scale style tiles, which enhance ventilation and prevent condensation.
Royal Gallery of Saint Hubert is a great place for shopping and browsing, both for locals and tourists. I can say that it offers a shelter from the unpredictable Belgian weather. There are a variety of shops, restaurants, and cafes, with a focus on chocolate ateliers and gift shops.
The prices at the mall are higher compared to regular shops, as they mostly offer luxurious gifts and souvenirs.
It is a pleasant place to spend time and admire beautiful things. The mall tends to be crowded during the day.

An excellent attraction. Easy to get into, a reasonable cafe and gift shop at the entrance/exit. Lots of interesting information about the building. Exciting and interesting art installations to provide something to post online! A fabulous view from the top.
The only slight issue is the queue for the lift to the top. It takes about half an hour but is well worth it. The queue to come down is much shorter.

Extremely cool visit. Was glad to see that they managed to keep the full tour going while accommodating all the new Corona guidelines. The travelling art installation in the higher spheres had everyone stopped in their tracks as soon as they entered.
Michael Karman — Google review
A good place which is the information about its history and construction. The lift takes you directly to the uppermost sphere from where you can watch the city all around. The other spheres can be explored only after coming down. The audio visual display could have been better.

While this is a Brussels landmark it’s really rather boring. It looks impressive from the outside, but you can save your money & look at it from the outside. The interior is an observation level on the top which is only 95 meters high. I’d recommend not paying to go in. The coolest thing is at the end they have some funky lights going up and down the last escalators.

Well restored expo monument in Brussel next to Mini Europe. Lots of available parking and next to train stop for easy access. Views will vary depending of weather but on good days you can see clearly across town. Good place for small children to visit or whole families.

Buy your ticket online and use the qr code to get in! No wait on a weekday, take some time to see the amazing view at the top!
Well worth a visit and it really is cool for people with an architecture background! Highly recommended to visit once in your life!

Personally I don’t think the view from up there is amazing or even breath-taking but just beautiful. I think it’s ok if you want to visit it provided that you have already visited the other more worth-visiting places in Brussels such as mini-Europe or European Parliament. Baring in mind all above, the amount of 16€ that you have to pay is too much unless you are a student and have a student card - in that case you pay 8.50€.
However, if you are interested in the atom composition you can enjoy your stay a little more there.

Worth the trip and fun to see but the tickets are expensive for such a short visit. We parked in the Mini-Europe parking lot which added an additional 12 Euro cost. The best pictures from our family visit were the free ones taken outside the building. I would recommend purchasing tickets ahead of time, it will save waiting in line and avoid possibility being sold out. When entering, you will be directed to wait for an elevator to an observation deck. We were not initially allowed to use stairs or escalators. After the observation deck, the elevator will take you back to the ground floor where you will then go through the light display escalators, exhibits and museum. At first I was worried the whole visit was only the observation deck because we had no other option but to go back into the elevator to the ground floor. But this was not the case. The light displays were fun and enjoyable. It really is an impressive landmark.

A must do if you are in Brussels. What a construction piece!!!! was extremely futuristic when built prior 1960s.
You better take tickets online as I forgot and could not take them on the same day and needed to stay in the cue for almost an hour.
The tour takes approximately an hour , once you manage to go in. You can read about its construction, you have a nice view up there and have a light and sound show.

This was such a pretty place especially when the sun hits it correctly. With the tour it’s 16 euros per person and 8.5 for kids. A little pricy but you can combine it with the Little Europe tickets! I definitely recommend for a good view and lovely photos! Overall a 4.5 just because the top is a little boring as you will probably only stay up there for a 10 minute experience. But the light shows and the glowing escalators made up for it and was absolutely beautiful!

My visit to the Atomium in Brussels was an absolute delight! The futuristic architecture of this iconic landmark left me in awe. It's a must-visit attraction that truly stands out in the city's skyline.
I highly recommend experiencing the light exhibition while at the Atomium. The dazzling display added a whole new dimension to the visit and made the entire experience even more memorable. It was a fantastic way to appreciate the structure in a different light, quite literally!
Booking the tickets online was a smart decision, as it helped me avoid the long lineup and save valuable time. With the place being busy, it's definitely a tip worth following to make the most of your visit.
One of the highlights for me was discovering the lovely picnic spots around the Atomium. The picturesque surroundings provided a perfect setting to relax, enjoy some delicious snacks, and take in the beautiful views.
All in all, the Atomium is a must-see attraction in Brussels, and the light exhibition is a great way to enhance the experience. Whether you're a history buff or simply looking to admire stunning architecture, this place won't disappoint. Plan ahead, get your tickets online, and don't forget to bring some snacks for a delightful picnic experience!

It's a nice place but it's out of the way from most tourist attractions.
I tried taking the tram but there was some type of service interruption and the tram was stopped earlier. I had to pay $30 for an Uber each way. Plus the tickets are $16 each for something that's not even a real museum.
Ruth — Google review
Really great to see it from the outside and it's pretty cool when you're up there. Also a good photo opportunity. Although the price of the tickets doesn't justify it unless you understand and appreciate the history and architecture and spend the time reading everything on the tour.

Was genuinely a great experience. Loved the vivid light show as well, definitely a pleasant surprise. Interesting and informative exhibits.
Free ticket to the design museum included in ticket price.

Well worth the visit. The view from the outside is stunning. The view from the inside is stunning. The light art installations add so much to the experience. Enjoyed the history of it as well. A little something for everyone. Well worth putting in the time to visit.

Great location. Nice park for small picnic with family and kids. Ample parking available at site. Walk and bike riding dedicated spaces available.
Day well spent given weather is ideal.

It's amazing! A real work of art, engineering and architecture. I've passed by it a couple of times over the past few years and I've always been amazed by it, but, unfortunately, I never got the chance to visit inside. Finally, this summer I chose to tick it off from the bucket list and I'm so glad I did it! First of all, approaching the park and seeing the Atomium from afar leaves you speechless because it's something you can't find anywhere else. The exhibition at the lower levels shows the whole history and construction process of the building it's so interesting and enriched by photos, documents and flyers from the '50s. Seeing the initial designs and then what it turned up to be, proves that the human mind is capable of grand things! The ID#2021 - Symbol exhibition is a full immersion in sound & light. Simply mind-blowing.
Going from one sphere to the other is exciting and getting to the upper sphere and enjoy the panorama is really great.
If you happen to be in Brussels, you definitely have to reserve a couple of hours to fully enjoy the Atomium!
Fabiola Falsetti — Google review
There are two parts of a visit. First, you take the staircase to levels and enjoy light shows with music. Second, come back downstairs and queue for the elevator. The elevator takes you to watch tower part where one can have higher look at view. Tickets can be purchased in the entrance (with combination of Mini Europe optionally).

The Atomium in Brussels is often praised for its unique and futuristic design, offering panoramic views of the city from its observation decks. Visitors appreciate the historical significance of this iconic building from the 1958 World Expo. Its interconnected spheres provide an interesting museum experience with exhibits about the Expo and the structure itself. Overall, it's considered a must-see attraction in Brussels.

Highly recommend going early as it can get quite busy.
Beautiful building from the world fair.
It's a fantastic experience, the panoramic view at the top isn't all that great since there isn't much buildings around.
However the exhibitions are quite interesting and fascinating as it takes you through the history of the world fair and the construction of the building itself.
Also there are some nice light shows in some parts of the exhibition.
Keep in mind that you will have to use stairs in some parts of the building.

Loved the attraction, very interesting building. Good views from the globe's. Easy to get to from the city. Bad points were: huge queue to get a ticket to get in. Also the internal queue once your in for the lift was taking almost 1hr (so we didn't bother with the lift to the highest point).
Andrew Chatterton — Google review
Very nice place, with panoramic views of the city.
You have to queue for 10-15 min to take the elevator and go up, I recommend taking tickets online to avoid the queue for the ticket too.
Arrived at the top, games of lights accompanied the visit.
Recommended as a monument symbol of the city a bit 'far from the center but easily accessible.

I was not sure about this place and almost missed it, but finally decided to visit it - I’m very happy that I did it, it’s great.
The construction is impressive, very photogenic. View from the top is great, the whole city is visible. I really like the light exhibition inside, almost psychotic (in a positive manner).
If you are not sure if you should to see it, the answer is yes, you should.
Paweł Berestecki — Google review
An amazing piece of architecture that harkens back to a time where anything felt possible in Europe. Built in the 1950s, The Atomium feels as futuristic now as I imagine it did back then.
The queue was roughly an hour, but it was a busy weekend so I guess that is to be expected. Although the queue was large, it never felt busy or packed once we were inside.
The restaurant at the top was fantastic, I would recommend a traditional Belgium beer and a traditional Belgian waffle if you don’t want to break the bank too much. The views were spectacular.
The light show inside one of the “balls” was phenomenal. A technological marvel only triumphed by the marvel of the “building” itself.
The Worlds Fair museum in another of the “balls” was fascinating. Why don’t we have a Worlds Fair anymore?!
This is a must for anyone visiting Brussels!

I left it bit late to get here so the queues were pretty busy with other tourists and school kids. Def recommend buying your ticket before hand or being there early just before they open or leave it until the end of the day. The structure can be seen for miles around, even from the big wheel in the city. Its an impressive building and one of the must see attractions in Brussels.
The parkland surrounding the site is great for a picnic afterwards. Plenty of paid parking on site but there is a tram stop nearby if you don't want to take the car. From the city its a good 90 minutes walk but a pleased walk nonetheless.

It's a worthy place to watch. Great view and scenic photos. Big parks and quite crowded on weekends. It ia good to purchase tickets in advance to avoid long wait lines. It can be accessed through metro or day tour bus. Highly recommended.

Excellent attraction when visiting Brussels or Belgium, Mark, not overly priced and we waited a little while, but it was a weekend to be expected. Places to eat and drink nearby are limited, but they are available. A great experience, and one that I would definitely recommend to take some fantastic pictures, and experience the whole elevation

Only half a year ago I found out that such an object exists in Europe 🫣 I was interested. I liked it even more after seeing it live, the object is exceptional. I didn't go inside, I didn't wait in lines. Since the weather was good, I enjoyed the view with a cup of coffee and a waffle🧇☕️

A lovely full day out to this here with some amazing parks with this popular attraction. The Atomium certainly doesn't disappoint, unlike Mini Europe (a separate attraction) which its capitols in minature form, did look a little worse for ware - buildings, figures collapsed or boats flooded. Like the message it tried to convey itself about the European Union - it was very tiring, boring and desperately needed updating.
Karl Cleveley — Google review
It's a wonderful place to visit, really not what you expect when you go inside. It's lots of fun, but the queue to the top floor is super long. And also check out the mini Europe while you are there.

It’s a must. This place is special for many reasons, it certainly holds a lot of history and offers a great view from Brussels. I visited during a week day early in the morning and it got busy quite fast. I recommend going early and getting the tickets in advance. You can take about an hour there. It’s outside the city center. If you have a private car or mobility, all good but if you don’t, you can take the metro (which is included in the Brussels card). They have a historical part, with information on the building itself and everything that is behind it and they also offer exhibitions. Every sphere is a different story so give it a chance and visit the Atomium!

Great place to visit. I loved how cool it looked. It is a little away from the town center. Take the train to get there. It’s cheap and fast.

Be prepared to wait and spend a lot of time. Usually there are a lot of people. Designed for the 1958 World's Fair, the Atomium represents a magnified iron crystal unit cell.
Its nine steel spheres connected by tubes offer a unique and futuristic look.
Panoramic Views:
Take in breathtaking panoramic views of Brussels from the highest sphere.

As many have noted, we were kinda skeptical about visiting but SO glad we did! This place was really neat! Built for the World’s Fair it showcases what we believed technology would become… It’s a fun interactive exhibit with a great light show and great views of the surrounding city. It was one of our favorite attractions!

A great looking piece of art and engineering. It is beautifully made and very large. When inside you have a beautiful view of the surrounding area. Well worth a visit.

Our visit to the Atomium turned out to be a delightful surprise, as we embarked on an adventure to discover one of Brussels' most iconic landmarks.
Initially drawn to the Atomium by its inclusion in a top 10 list of must-see attractions, we found ourselves thoroughly immersed in a day filled with exploration and wonder. While the Atomium itself offered a relatively brief experience, the surrounding area and nearby parks provided ample opportunities for additional discovery and enjoyment.
Ascending and descending the Atomium proved to be quite the feat, however, the effort was more than rewarded by the breathtaking views awaiting us at the summit. From this vantage point, we were treated to a panoramic spectacle that captured the essence of Brussels in all its splendor.
Overall, our visit to the Atomium was a memorable and enriching experience, offering a perfect blend of architectural marvel, natural beauty, and family-friendly adventure. It's a testament to the enduring allure of this iconic structure and its ability to captivate visitors of all ages.
Villers Abbey, located in Villers-la-Ville, Belgium, is a well-preserved ruin of a Cistercian abbey that was abandoned in 1796. It is considered to be one of the top attractions in Wallonia due to its beautiful gardens and relaxing walks. In addition to its rich history and atmosphere, the abbey also hosts an annual choir festival.
Great experience of the old ruins of the abbey in Villers-la-Ville. The entrance fee of 9 Euros is reasonable as it is a huge complex you can explore on your own or with help of an audioguide (extra fee). I was there in the very morning and for photography fans this place offers exceptionable spots and locations. It is not crowded at all. Additionally, you can learn lots about life in the abbey and its surroundings. Also, there are abbey gardens that teach you about plants and the four humours and temperaments. Parking is free. Worth a visit, or two.

This Abbey was so cool! They have like 4 different gardens, based off of plants for cooking, medicine, etc.
They still hold services in the main chapel. There's so much real estate to explore, and it wasn't insanely crowded.
There's lots of great views and the gift shop has a lot of local products.
It's not very accessible for those with limited mobility, unfortunately.

This visit was tremendous! The visitors center is worth the entrance fee. Neat products and great historical information. Outside, we were in awe of the ruins. The kids ran around and explored all the nooks and crannies. We enjoyed our time and photos. We should have experienced the Brasserie.

the biggest abbey I have ever seen, in fact the whole valley is one big abbey, even the railway goes throught it, the monks had everything for their lives there, from bedrooms to dining rooms, workshops, warehouses, stables, toilets, gardens, prayer rooms, of course the main church, to the hotel and even the prison, free parking, the entrance fee is excellent, there is also a small shop and restaurant at the reception, toilets available, there are only ruins inside so there is not so much to do but the area is huge and in summer the bloom flowers must be beautifull

Very good for a walk and beautiful site for some pictures. Ample space for parking.
I advise for some hiking as it can be very pleasant otherwise it worth a visit anyway.

Lovely gardens, relaxing walks. The kids loved playing in the underground passages.
If you want to take advantage of everything, plan to be there for the whole day. A lot to read about everything + extra information online - you just need to scan a QR code. We didn't do it so I cannot comment on this.
Bring a picnic or snacks or wait until you finish the visit - there's a restaurant once you get out.
Teachers get free entrance.

We went on a sunny day and enjoyed walking through the ruins of the Abbey.
Lots of good photo opportunities. And enjoyed fresh beer sitting in a lawn.

I highly recommend visiting this place! This monastery is almost 1000 years old and it's still standing. There's a small museum exhibition in the beginning with some information, but the highlight it actually walking around the runes and reading the information signs. If you come here in the winter, dress accordingly to the weather!

Nice and pet friendly.
Dogs are allowed inside the place with a leash, which is great and mine enjoyed it.
Parking place is not big enough, it was too crowded but there was another one close by.

Beautiful place. Unfortunately, i was too late to reach as it was closing, so I couldn't get in, but the view i could manage was enough for me to realise that it is a beautiful place.
It is big. The entrance goes through under the ground. The way they preserved the valley, the beautiful stone structures were mesmerising.
This place is a must if you are nearby or 6 around.
