Constructed in the mid-17th century by King Louis XIV to project the absolute power of France, Le Grand Controle palace today provides a luxurious home base for guests seeking a unique experience of history and glamour. With sumptuous formal gardens and an enormous size, this splendid palace is perfect for families or large groups looking for an unforgettable stay in one of the most celebrated historical locations in France.
They weren’t kidding when they said this was an all-day trip. Pack a picnic lunch to enjoy in the gardens, and get ready to be blown away! This history, the architecture, the glittering gold gilt on everything... it’s just incredible! So worth the trip from Paris! If you get the right ticket, it also includes the Grand Trianon and the train ride back.

Amazing! This is a great experience. If you get the chance do visit. There is a free audio tour which you can download as an app. The rooms and the content are fabulous. Yes, it’s very popular. There are timed tickets for the Palace itself which are very good value. The grounds do require a lot of walking but you can hire a buggy. The fountains are beautiful and if you can do walk down to the boating lake. A good number of cafes and restaurants at the bottom of the gardens. We returned in the evening to see the water fountains display and fireworks. Over 3 hours of entertainment. My advice is to download the free map so you can see all the displays. You can bring a picnic for the evening.

Beautiful and large palace outside of Paris. It’s quite difficult to get to without a car. Inside the palace were plenty of rooms where you can walk around to learn about history and embrace the beauty of the walls, ceilings, statues and chandeliers. It took about half a day to see the entire place, but definitely worth a visit.
Narawich Poovarodom — Google review
The palace was super cool but there were so many people. As we walked around we noticed that there were huge crowds in all of the bedrooms and the crowd was less cramped in every other part of the palace. This was a cool experience but probably not something to go back to multiple times again. All of the rooms were pretty similar after a while and almost seemed like an art museum so keep that in mind if you’re not super into old art and furniture. Overall good experience.
Sa Br — Google review
It is one of the tourist destinations with the best history.
It is a very large place. 5-6 hours were spent touring both the palace and the gardens. The palace boasts very nice decorations and interiors both outside and inside, and the historical information provided with the audio guide was also very nice.
The garden offers an electric vehicle service that can be used within the garden. Since the garden is quite large, renting an electric car is a good option if you do not want to experience the inconvenience of walking.
And on weekends you can see a fountain show.
I highly recommend that anyone visiting this place use an audio guide. You can hear stories about some very cool history.
It is also recommended to reserve tickets in advance the day before your visit. If you visit without reserving tickets, you will have to wait for a very long time, and if you are unlucky, you may not be able to see the inside of the palace.
It's such a cool place.
I would like to visit again next time.
Jees Grey — Google review
It’s a major pain to buy tickets in person and wait in the entry line. Both lines are incredibly long and take hours, even in old, windy, rainy weather in late October…and while normally I’d NEVER wait in a line that long for anything, this was worth it.
It’s also a madhouse, super crowded and will peeve you, but my god I’ve never seen anything like this palace. It’s insane. Epic, grand, ornate, doesn’t do it justice. Feels like a wonder of the world.
It’s worth a day trip if you want to explore the gardens. I walked over 5mi and didn’t even make a dent in the gardens, so I’d plan to arrive early and bring good walking shoes.
Also an umbrella! Whether raining like it was on me or sunny, the line is so long you’ll want to have something with you to protect against the elements.
The palace is so intricate and luxurious it’s hard to wrap your mind around and it certainly makes you understand why the French had a revolution. It’s astonishing and will leave you speechless, angry, and amazed. A very memorable sight to see and a highlight of the trip.

France has the most beautiful sights. The architecture of these building to have maintained for these c nitrites is unbelievable. The French have truly preserved their buildings. Although dusty and slimy from the elements, the structure is intact. Inside the decor is absolutely amazing, with all the details King Louis asked for down to the smallest details. He asked for and received the best of the best for him and his family. They lived the luxurious life with everything available to them. There are rooms designed for each person, event and all in between. The walls, the fabric, the designs, the entire Palace is well maintained and well kept from the original years. Gold for days is seen throughout this Palace.

All time favorite tourist attraction while visiting Paris. Highly recommend giving yourself a few hours to visit. You still may not have enough time to see everything. The palace is stunning. Marie Antoinette was living in opulence. The palace is massive, but the gardens go on for miles.
PRO TIP- Rent the golf cart to visit the gardens. Better yet, rent a bike. The golf carts can only stay on their assigned path. If you venture off path, the golf cart will turn off.
*Marie Antoinette’s cottage house is not open. You can only view the outside.

This is a must do if you are staying in or around Paris! We took the train into town and walked about 5-10 minutes to the gates. Buy your tickets ahead of time and earlier in the day if you can. We got wonderful pictures and beat the heat of the sun in the gardens. We had passport tickets which allowed us to go pretty much everywhere.
Chelsea Wisniewski — Google review
We didn’t manage to get into the Palace due to lack of tickets. We were only able to walk through the gardens. The gardens are nice, but expected more. They are not that well maintained (grass and plants is not well watered in some parts). Still nice to visit if you have half (or an entire) day in Paris.

First went 25 years ago, back again now. What an amazing place. The history and the grandeur. A once in a lifetime visit. Make sure and book your tickets ahead of time and splurge on a guide if you want to get the most out of your visit. I noticed golf carts for rent to tour the gardens. We didn't get in due to time but I would plan for that and go see thengrounds and all the hidden gems amongst the gardens.
Chris Allen — Google review
Absolutely stunning. Wish I had more time to walk around this place, and maybe a guided tour would have been a good idea as well. Definitely buy tickets in advance as even having already bought tickets we had to wait over an hour and a half. Again be prepared very long waits on weekends and holidays, but I expect it wouldn’t be this bad usually.

Visiting the grounds of Versailles was a dream come true. I ordered my ticket a week ahead of my planned visit and went on a Friday. I recommend going as early as possible. I noticed it got very busy around mid morning and fortunately I was able to take pictures of the courtyard without too many people bombing pics. The palace is huge with so many rooms and so much history to take in. I managed to book a guided tour of the kings private rooms but again I highly recommend purchasing tickets days in advance. Also, get ready for miles of walking. Wear comfortable shoes and please be mindful that everyone is taking photos so please remember public etiquette.

The place is superb.
The castle is very big and the garden is huge.
Recommended for a family tour or couple tour.
We went in there for our couple tour.
It was raining and we did not finish the garden tour.
The experience was great.
Recommended for those people who loves history.

Legendary place, you need at least 4-5 hours to spend instead it. The palace itself is breathtaking but better to go around it with a guide to tell the details about everything. The gardens are amazing. Better to rent a golf cart to go around it. Be aware that you rent it at the beginning of the garden there is usually waiting time and you need a driving license.
If you want to go for a boat ride then you definitely need more time

Stunning palace of the Sun King.
Practicalities:
If using Google, remember there is the town of Versailles and there is the Palace of Versailles. To actually get to the palace from the town, you will have to Uber or taxi from the train station.
The palace gets crowded--and I mean, shoulder to shoulder, barely able to breathe crowded. NOT for those who get claustrophobic in such situations. Getting your tickets for very early can help this, as can trying to see the more popular areas (Hall of Mirrors, etc) as early or late as possible.
The gardens have stony paths. Recommend not wearing thin shoes.
Plan a bare minimum of 3 hours for your visit.
Fun stuff:
It really is one of the most beautiful sites you will ever see. Stunning artwork and architecture and treasures at every turn. The gardens are an absolute delight.
Wander_Woman — Google review
An absolutely stunning place to visit. Despite visiting in September during the week, I found the interior tour to be incredibly overcrowded. You could spend hours inside, however I found outside of the palace to be the best. Rent a bike or golf cart, and if it’s a nice day look the spend the majority of your time here exploring the beautiful grounds.
Ryan Ball — Google review
You must visit while in Paris. Just off to the West of Paris but worth the drive. Get there ahead of your ticket time as there is a queue even though you have a timed entrance. Parking is easy and right next to the entrance. Advise the audio and an am entry time if you can as we missed the gardens with a 4pm entry time not leaving us the time to visit the gardens as access is at the end on your way out. It was too dark at the time of year we visited by the time we had walked through all the rooms of this magnificent palace. Leave plenty of time for pictures in the main courtyard.

Just breathtaking in everything, the most magnificent art of that era that I've seen. It's a must visit palace, and I highly recommend booking in advance as the wait times could be unbelievable and expect lots of crowds so it's not easy to take photos.
Ash — Google review
The garden its huge so it could take you 3 hours to fully see everything. I would plan a better weather day to go (raining), so you could enjoy the boat ride, the palace itself, we could not make it ut was fully booked and no places were left

I would reccomending booking your tickets in advance and go early on in the day to beat the crowds, it's definitely worth it. The Palace and grounds are extensive and you can easily spend the whole day there. We caught the train here from Paris and it was easily one of the highlights of our visit to France, a definite must-visit! Absolutely stunning and lots to see whilst you are there. The ticket also allows access to other buildings in the grounds, which are not to be missed.

You will love it if you love history! I literally saw my History textbooks come to life. The hall of mirrors is iconic
The place is beautiful and definitely recommend a tour of the gardens and the estate of Trianon. Try taking the guided tour headset.
The entry is free for students which is something I love about the city and its monuments. It goes an extra miles to give the best student discounts and allows for curious students like myself to learn more.
ishan khalsa — Google review
Beautiful palace, but it gets very crowded, making it difficult to walk inside. It's hard to take nice pictures with so many people. It's totally worth it to get the garden pass; we probably spent most of our time in the garden, which is beautiful and not that busy. It's a long walk, so I recommend bringing a lot of water and wearing comfortable shoes.
The Hall of Mirrors in the Palace of Versailles is a large and ornate space with a series of mirrors on the walls. It is used as a meeting area for the king and queen, and has been called one of the most impressive monuments in France. The mirrors are made by various French manufacturers and are very expensive, demonstrating the level of economic prosperity in France at the time.
Magnificent place,elegantly restored history..
Must visit

Hall of Mirrors is the most elegant & glamorous room in the Palace of Versailles. The sight this hall creates when sunlight peeps through windows & lighten up the hall with intricate pieces of arts & mirrors is just magical. The ceilings are also covered with intricate arts.
Himantha Alahakoon — Google review
The Hall of Mirrors of the Palace of Versailles is the highlight of every visit. The area in the center of the castle, originally laid out as a terrace, was closed around 300 years ago and has over 350 individual mirrors. These imitate the old exterior facade with 17 large windows. At the time, it symbolized the king's wealth and the progress of the French people. This place is considered to be the most historic place in Europe.
mik losh — Google review
Hall of Mirrors is the most famous and beautiful room of Versailles palace.
It runs along the palace main wing on the first floor overlooking the gardens.
It is lavishly decorated in mirrors (as the name says), gilded statues and marvelous chandeliers. Beside its beauty the room is known as the place where the peace treaty was signed ending the WWI.
We've been lucky being there on a cloudy Jan day just before the closing time with very few people, having it almost to ourselves (see the pics)
Dejan Braki — Google review
The Hall of Mirrors is the jewel in the crown of the Palace of Versailles.
It was meant to make a strong statement about the god-given power of the
King, Louis XIV, who was responsible for the building of the Palace.
The Hall of Mirrors is also famous for being the site where several
important historical events have taken place,
one of them being the Proclamation of the German Empire in 1871, after the
German states had defeated France in the Franco-Prussian War, and another the signing of the Treaty of
Versailles at the end of World War I, in 1919

While many will complain about the extravagance of wealth and royalty, it’s good to keep in mind all who were employed in the building of palaces like this. Now all can enjoy the stunning art and architecture of this royal residence museum. Seeing the gardens is every bit as satisfying as touring the chateau. Rent a golf cart and plan for lots of time.

Thoiry ZooSafari is a unique destination that offers a combination of zoo, safari tours, world farm, maze, play areas and a castle with gardens. Visitors can enjoy a beautiful day out observing well-cared-for animals in spacious enclosures. The zoo features an array of animals, some of which may be unfamiliar to many visitors. There are shaded areas and picnic tables available for relaxation. The zoo also boasts playgrounds and entertainment options suitable for visitors of all ages.
Thoiry is undoubtedly the best zoo I've ever visited! I brought along my 2-year-old and 5-year-old, and we all had an absolutely fantastic time. The hyena and lion areas stand out with tunnels that allow you to walk through their habitats under a glass covering, providing an incredible view of the animals. Thoiry offers several playgrounds and a massive rope/trampoline/climbing area that entertained all of us, including my 75-year-old mother. What's remarkable is the spacious enclosures for each animal, which are meticulously designed to replicate their local habitats, setting it apart from zoos in the US. Though we missed the drive-through experience, we explored the entire zoo and will return during our next trip to France. I highly recommend Thoiry, especially if you have kids!
Elizabeth Norton — Google review
You can enjoy a safari for 30 euros (include the light show of Thoiry's castle). You will be able to sit next to ostrich and antelope. A rare things to do! There are also wolves, bears, elephant and giraffe! Be careful, if you want to see bears active don't go in winter or they will hibernate!

Very beautiful environment. Wonderfully set for the animals to feel at home and for the visitors to have a close-up experience. Great for all ages!!!

Waste of time and waste of money. We initially did the safari (taking your car and driving through), and barely saw any animals. They only had 1 elephant, 2 giraffes, 2 camels, 3 zebras, a few ostriches and small black bears.
Then we parked our cars and walked into the zoo. What another waste of time. We had to walk for hours just to see a few skinny lions, 2 tigers, 4 gorillas, a few small kangaroos and one medium size anaconda (just naming the few interesting animals that was there).
They also had chickens, frogs, small raccoons, very small otters, 2 horses and a few other animals like foxes, parrots and 1 leopard. In addition, the park was dirty and not well maintained.
Overall, if I knew I wouldn't have visited at all. It was a complete waste of time and money.

This is certainly not an African safari, but it is a very good urban safari.
I was surprised by the place, the beautiful manor and the well-kept surroundings, as well as the lion glass tunnel.
I would recomended everyone to visit this safari zoo.

I am not a big fan of zoos bit we took our 7yr old. This is a good zoo. The layout is very nice. They have a lot of interesting species that I had never seen, also tunnels through the feline enclosures. And a drive through “safari.” It’s all a bit small but very tidy, very nice. It always breaks my heart to see the gorillas bored to death.
The kids games a great. The food is absolutely disgusting, bring a picnic lunch.

The ticket includes the safari, the zoo and the castle. The safari had decent amount of animals. A separate section for the American animals. Overall the zoo is well kept and has some exotic animals.

Amazing place: safari is awesome, you almost can touch a bear, a lot of other usual zoo animals and side activities like a zip line and a rope city. Recommend to use 2 days pass to have time for everything, especially if with kids.

Beautiful day out seeing animals who looked well cared and had proper spaces cared of to live in. Lots of animals, some of them we never saw before. It is amazing to see so many of them. Lots of shadow in the zoo. Playground in the middle. Picnic tables available. We arrived at the opening and left just before the closure - plan the whole day there!! Started with walking through the zoo and finished off with the car safari - great idea as we were happy to sit down at that point!

The Fondation Claude Monet in Giverny is a captivating destination that showcases the house, gardens, and studio of renowned artist Claude Monet. This artistic haven offers visitors a romantic and unexpected journey through its ornate gardens, Japanese prints, and the artist's studio-sitting room. In addition to this iconic site, Giverny also houses the Musee des Impressionnismes Giverny, which recently celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2019.
There can be no doubt that this is a most beautiful place to visit, but I'd definitely recommend-
*Book tickets in advance
*Go outside of school/public holidays
*Plan your visit for when the water lilies are in bloom!
We went on Easter Sunday and it was VERY busy (fortunately I'd bought tickets in advance) and sadly the lake was bare- BUT it did not detract from the wonderful time we had.
The village of Giverny is well worth a stroll around too if you can take in so much beauty in one day!
Kirsty Keetch — Google review
A very special place to visit to see the work of this great painter. The garden is well laid out and signposted. Lots of photo opportunities as well as time to reflect on the beauty of the planting. The house is a bonus to see how Monet lived, his work, the amazing views of the garden from the house. Timed tickets. Spend about 3 hours. The gift shop is good value and there is something for everyone in terms of price options. Places to eat and drink in the village. Parking is well organised. Couldn’t give 5 stars as staff made us wait an hour in the sun due to staffing issues with no regard to the bill elderly members of the group.
Caroline Blair — Google review
This was my second time to Giverny. (The first was 30 years ago.) No surprise, the gardens were beautiful, the pond was beautiful, the flowers up close were beautiful BUT - and this is a big BUT - the crowds were too much, in both the house and the gardens. It was honestly stressful to try to walk along the paths because there were so many people crammed onto the grounds. I’m used to going to gardens to be reflective and to enjoy the experience. The crowds made it unpleasant (And this was a Monday. Imagine what it would be like on the weekend!) That’s why I gave the Monet house three stars instead of five.
I have no desire to go back, no matter how pretty my pictures turned out. I actually felt anxiety amidst the crowds.
I’d like to make a recommendation to the Foundation, if that doesn’t seem to pompous: please only allow a certain number of people on the grounds every day. Charge a little more to make up for what you might lose in ticket sales. But please reduce the number of people – and regulate (stagger) the times so that the there are not thousands of people, trying to navigate a place that is supposed to be tranquil and contemplative. (In my photos, I waited for people to pass – so you can’t see the crowds - but trust me, they were there!)
Martha Wilson — Google review
Beautiful, one of a kind place. It makes one wonder if Monet was more of a gardener than a painter. Once on site, it was easy to see where he got his inspiration. Beware, get there early as it gets overwhelmingly crowded.

We drove easily from Paris to Giverny and parked on the free Verger’s parking lot. 13:30 was perfect for us to visit the house and the gardens.
Worth the drive and the wait (line) to discover beautiful paintings of him especially when you can get up close !

The house and the gardens were absolutely a delight to watch. I went in June and I believe it's the perfect time to visit, because it was already spring and just the start of summer, hence it was full of blossomed flowers and not very crowded.

The house and garden where Monet spent his final years and painted some of his most famous pieces such as the water lilies or the bridge. An interesting visit and a good source of inspiration for artists. The village of Giverny itself is also quite cute despite the "tourist effect"

VERY NEAT FOR A MONET FAN. This was a great detour on our way to Normandy. Parking is challenging though if you wait king enough someone leaves. When we came there was also a market (Sunday morning) so that made parking even more difficult. We did not have advance tickets and only waited in line for 5 mins to purchase. The gardens and ponds are amazing. The flowers are incredible. The house is really neat as It has his first studio with replica paintings. The feel of the gardens shows how one of the great impressionists could be motivated to paint. It was beautiful.

Highlight of my recent Paris trip! Quite straightforward reaching this place (by train and then shuttle bus; signs are very clear once you reach Vernon). My recommendation is plan the trip yourself but buy entry tickets in advance. Spent about 3 hours here. Loved browsing the shop too. Even though it was crowded - I came in summer, there are little pockets of quiet where you can sit around and just soak in the atmosphere of this beauty of a place.

Possible the most beautiful garden in the world! I dreamt of this place for years before visiting. After finding a book about Monet’s garden several years earlier this place had been in my bucket list until I finally had the time to visit during a trip to Paris in 2023. I travelled from Paris as part of a coach tour and spent the entire day in Giverny. It was a rainy day, but did not take away from the magic of the experience. 8 full time staff tend the garden and the tulip beds are certainly a highlight. Although the water lilies were not in bloom during my visit, the lily pond was still amazing to behold. The Japanese bridges hold so much history and are iconic scenes. I brought my watercolours to paint while attending.
Would definitely recommend taking a day to visit by train or tour coach.

Beautiful place. A must on your list. An hour outside of Paris. It is less expensive to Uber if you have 6+ people.

Wonderful and moving experience. The home is charming and loaded with art (not Monet's but special nevertheless), photos, and furnishings to recreate how Monet lived in a key mature part of his artistic life and after achieving rare "success while still living". Although the gardens have been replaced, they did so with the greatest effort to make it exactly as it was. The garden is absolutely lovely as well as the pond where waterlilies and other masterpieces were painted. The village is lovely as well. Great experience.

Wonderful gardens but so very busy! Line at 30 min after opening was 2.5h long. Even longer when we were leaving. I'm thinking, get there an hour before opening (09:30 for our visit).
Japanese garden is certainly the highlight. Very beautiful.

Stunning and worth visiting early in the day. Visit through Monet's house before the gardens to avoid the crowds.
The e-ticket was poorly signposted if you catch the shuttle bus from Vernon Gare, it's actually the Group-entry gate near the underwater, rather than the main entrance up near the gift-shop.

Beautiful gardens. Visited in August 2023. Many flowers in bloom. Visited the house. Couldn't really take your time in the house due to the number of visitors. Arrived for opening 9.30am. Well worth the time here

If you love art and nature/garden, you should visit this place during Spring!
To get there, you could take the TER (train) and then you will get a shuttle bus from the station to the location. Once you reach there, you will have to walk for like 5 minutes to reach the garden.
If you are hungry or want to take something quick, there are a few restaurants and takeaway places outside of the garden. Keep in mind that if the ticket is single entry, you cannot exit the place and come back, in case you gets hungry! ;)
So the place, I really loved the garden, which was peaceful and beautiful at the same time. I spent quite sometime in the garden before entering to the Monet’s house. The house is filled with his and many other artists works, which are amazing.
Also, do lots of forget to go to the other side of the garden where you could find small water canal and a pond.
I spent almost 2-3 hours there and then grabbed a small sandwich from one of the takeaway shops after exiting from the place.
Also, one more suggestion, try to go in the morning time slot, something near 10:30 a.m. for a better experience.
I will highly recommend you to visit this amazing place at least one time!

This place is absolutely magical! If you are anywhere near here - within 100 miles - then go!!! Book online before going just in case there’s a queue or it is full. There is so much to see and explore and just get lost in the gardens. We went in summer and it was simply amazing. There were some crowds but it didn’t feel crowded at all. Park at the lot just opposite - plenty of spaces. Could have spent the whole day there but settled for 4 hours in the afternoon.

It was a very beautiful place.
I visited in mid-October and it was wonderful.
It was not crowded and I didn't have to wait in line, so it was comfortable.
I think it might be crowded in spring, but I would like to visit in each season.
I am truly grateful for preserving and sharing such a wonderful place.

Words & photos don’t do Monet’s Garden justice.
Beautiful/ Serene / Peaceful start to describe the setting
Small town with good restaurants well equipped to handle the crowds.
Strongly suggest you visit this treasure

The Fondation Monet is a must-visit for any fan of Impressionist art. The house and gardens are beautifully preserved, and it is easy to see why Monet was inspired by them. The gardens are especially stunning in the spring and summer, when the flowers are in bloom. I would recommend visiting early in the day to avoid the crowds.
The staff at the Fondation Monet are friendly and helpful. They were happy to answer our questions about Monet and his work. We also enjoyed the guided tour, which gave us a deeper understanding of the gardens.
Overall, we had a wonderful experience at the Fondation Monet. It is a truly special place that everyone should visit at least once

It was an incredible time at the Monet Gardens and house. We did this as a cruise ship excursion and while it made for a long day it was so worthwhile. Even in Mid-October there were still flowers blooming. We enjoyed wandering through the grounds and touring the house.

Worth the visit. Its a small place (house and garden) but the flowers and the paintings in the house are so, so beautiful. You probably will spend maybe 3 hours max. Can have a lot of visitors, so need to be patient when taking pics. Also, the shop at the end is super interesting! Couldn't resist to buy something!!
The Chartres Cathedral is an exquisite twelfth century Gothic cathedral that transports visitors back in time. The cathedral is filled with relics, intricate stained glass windows, and hundreds of tiny statues depicting the life of Christ, all of which makes it a fascinating place to visit. In addition to its beauty, the cathedral also houses around 5 museums worth checking out.
We stayed in Chartres for a day on our way to Rennes and stopped there to see the Cathedral which is part of UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites. We love Gothic cathedrals, and this is one of the most impressive cathedral we've seen. Surprisingly, It is a tad taller than Notre Dames in Paris. There has been extensive renovation work done in past 10 years and it is quite striking to compare between before and after renovation. When we came, the main entrance door was closed, probably because the mass was ongoing, but we were able to enter from the right side entrance. We were totally blown away by the beauty of the place, the statues both inside and out, the stain glasses and even more so by the wall of sculptures all around the choir. It took 200 years to complete it!!! I highly recommended to see the Cathedral if you travel by Chartres.

What an amazing experience! An amazing cathedral. The love everything was built with on and in this unique monument, is breathtaking! It is really astonishing how people managed to create such wonders centuries ago and with what tools?
When visiting France, visiting Chartres just for its cathedral is a must!
Unbelievable! ❤️

Grand. Historical. Not crowded at all. May not been as famous as Notre Dame in Paris, but no less magnificent without all the hassles in the busy city. Watch out for Google directions though, it led us through a restricted pedestrian zone which was barred from outside traffic on tiny one lane streets. Thankfully the parking attendant pitied us and let us through but it was a nightmare. Be sure to map to cathedral parking instead of cathedral.

Chartres Cathedral is one of Europe’s most beautiful and an experience that promises to transcend time and leave you spellbound. The cathedral stands as a testament to the zenith of French Gothic architecture. With harmonious designs, detailed rose windows, and balanced proportions, every nook and cranny speaks of the meticulous hands and visionary minds behind its creation. Every glance at Chartres Cathedral is an ode to the architectural genius of the past. Its towering spires seem to pierce the sky, and the intricate facade tells tales of craftsmanship that few structures of our time can parallel.

Amazing building and I especially loved the intricate sculptures and stained glass windows. Plus it's free ( able to donate of course) lots of work needed and scaffold up. Some bits covered but of course these things need to be restored

It's differently worth the visit with beautiful stained glass windows that are very hard to photograph. The story of Jesus in 40 Scripture scenes in great detailed the before through after his death on the cross. It was all pretty amazing and how they saved the stained glass windows during WW2 for the Cathedral. Now, you can view them for yourselves. Enjoy the Cathedral while you're in Chartres!

Our Lady of Chartres Cathedral is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture! I was in awe of the endless stained glass and detailed art carvings throughout. This cathedral is well known for housing the relic that is believed to be of the Mother Mary's veil worn during the birth of Jesus. This history of this cathedral is incredibly impressive. It's tough to comprehend the endless hours invested into the creation of this magnificent artwork, including the years of renovation. I highly encourage you to make the pilgrimage to see this unbelievable cathedral in Chartres France!

Impressive building in a pretty town. While Chartres is not as beautiful as some other French cities it nevertheless presents a very unique and homogenous center. The cathedral dominates the view. It’s surroundings are very touristic, so try to move away from it to get some food.
Guido Haak — Google review
Obviously the star in Chartres … generations have rebuilt this cathedral over and over again on this special spot … just allow yourself to be blasted away with the magnificent artwork you will see inside - small wonders of craftsmanship for centuries and centuries … if you come during the summer months you will be lucky to see some great light performance projected onto the cathedral - and on some other 10 sites in Chartres - starting when night falls and running until something like 1 am. Indeed to stroll around town (easily by foot no need for the tourist „train“) and suck in all these light shows and music performances that automatically start after sunset
Gordon M?ller-Eschenbach — Google review
Visited Chartres last week on a Tuesday afternoon. Our group enjoyed the stained glass windows, which were stunning! We spent a few hours walking around the grounds and the interior of the Cathedral.
The standouts were the stained glass, gothic architecture, and the non-existent crowds. Compared to Paris, this felt like a secluded getaway where time could be spent enjoying the Cathedral without having so many others around (we noticed probably less than 10 other tourists). This is especially key given at this time in 2023 Notre Dame in Paris is not rebuilt and is not available for entry. Come to Chartres (pronounced ‘Shart’) and enjoy the same era or architectural brilliance up close.
By the way, when mapping to Chartres, make sure to set your GPS to “Q-Park Cathedrale” and not the actual Chartres Cathedral. If you map directly to the Cathedral, your GPS might take you through the local streets some of which are very small with blocked-off access points without space for u-turns.

This is one of the best cathedrals for a day trip from Paris. The church and it's stained glass windows are very well preserved. I would strongly recommend anyone to rent the audio guide which was extremely detailed and the in-app videos and features definitely helped me to learn a lot about the history of chartres cathedral.

Amazing cathedral with beautiful colorful windows If you pay attention to details you will notice the immense maze on the floor quite entirely hidden by the benches. You could buy ticket for guided tour of cathedral tower. During the night there is a great facade light show. Different from Rouen show that is quite off topic and inappropriate this Chartres show is very well done highlighting the architecture of the facade with colorful scenes

One of the most amazing experiences I had in France. The cathedral itself is amazing. So well restored after the fire it looks like how it first must have when built.
The most amazing part however is the light show in the evening. This truly is a must see. Sensationally mind blowing.

Beautiful structure: historic, big, and inviting. The community surrounding the Cathedral was welcoming. The village of Chartes is clean and inspiring...especially to a history buff. The evening light show on the front was breathtaking.

A must see when in Chartres, during the day or after darkness when a light show uses the cathedral front as it's screen. It was nice to see the renovation of the interior which makes it look bright and airy inside, work ongoing. Don't miss it when in this beautiful French city

This cathedral is a must see! On a sunny day, the stained-glass windows shine with magical colour, the secret of which has not been revealed so far, and the magnificent sculptures describe in detail the life of the holy family and Christ.
Bourges Cathedral, erected in the late 12th century, boasts a remarkable design and features an extensive crypt that houses the burial site of Jean de Berry. The edifice's captivating architecture is comparable to that of Notre-Dame and there is no admission fee; visitors may make voluntary contributions towards lighting candles. The cathedral conserves some of the finest stained glass artwork, which can be examined closely to observe its layering techniques.
Art and architecture is mesmerising. Worth visiting the cathedral!

This medieval cathedral seems to rise out of nowhere as you turn the last corner upon approach. It's very hard to describe its beauty: not only its architecture is breathtaking but its stained glass are a superb masterpiece. We couldn't climb the tower, because we lacked the time, but we visited the crypt with a guided tour (the guided tour is compulsory to visit the crypt but it's worth every penny) and it was amazing. The guide gave us a detailed history of the cathedral and the works stored in the crypt. If you are in the region, this is a must-see.

The cathedral lacked the uplifting colours from the stained glass windows that it is famed for on bright days, today was dull. The scaffolding around the outside also spoiled the view of the wonderful exterior. Still awesome, just not at its best.

Really big with a huge range of animals and exhibits so prepare for lots of walking. Can get busy so plan for a full day, closes at 20.00 but most have left by 18.00 so you get a good couple of hours to revisit your favourites close up.
Otherwise, a 2 day visit is great value.
Food and drink of good quality, and fair pricing.
Only negative was that one zone (the one with the dome) has almost no translations to English like in the other areas.

One of the best zoos I have seen. The sheer amount of animals they have is impressive. We spent more than six hours there and have barely seen all animals. There is a cable car running from on side of the zoo to the other that gives you a good view and helps getting from one side to the other. The compounds of the animals seem to be larger than in other zoos (that are often within a city) and some animals seem to be more active. The glass dome with the jungle inside is especially impressive due to its size. Highly recommended. You should at least spend 5-6 h here.

One of the best designed zoo I have ever visited. It is huge and the path was designed so that one can go around each animals area so they have nowhere to hide from you. Château d'Azay-le-Rideau is a stunning Renaissance palace located on an island in the Indre River, creating a picturesque reflection in the water. This fairy-tale castle is renowned for its romantic charm and exquisite architecture, blending French and Italian styles. Visitors can admire the oldest surviving staircase in France, royal tapestries, and artworks depicting French royals adorning the walls.
What a charming and beautiful castle! The castle is on top of an island in the Indre River, and in a small town. There is a big garden to make the castle so peaceful. With the innovative Italian decor from the 16th century, and interesting French Renaissance architecture, the castle has something that makes you not want to leave in a hurry. It’s one of the most beautiful castles in Loire Valley, and a treasure of the region.

To be fair we didn't go inside of the chateau as it was closed by the time we showed up. But the garden and it's views were absolutely gorgeous. The town it sets in also was beautifully set on the same small river and every bit as charming as this white castle itself. May not be as big or majestic, it has a more petite coziness to it, made it more real and personal.

One of the nicer looking chateaus in my opinion. With a lot of information for each room and its paintings. I felt other chateaus didn’t really have much information on the paintings on the wall so plus point for this chateau. Loved the scenery around the castle too. They also had different translations for the explanations. Steps can be quite uneven though so do be careful!

Nice chateau. Very different from others in the area we visited. This one feels more livable and less like a show of power. The fine art exhibit was very nice. Off the beaten track but worth a visit. Nearby is a church where Jeanne de Arc stopped for a blessing on the way to her battle for Orleans.

My favourite chateau. This is taken out of a princess movie. Absolutely impressive and it gives that hint of magic. Not much to say about the inside as I was still shell shocked by its outside looks - but I am convinced it was beautiful and interesting. I will absolutely return, even once in this life.

One of the jewels of the chateaux of the Loire. Made of striking white stone and sitting in the middle of its own lake. It has different facades so make time to walk around the lake on the nature paths and enjoy it from different angles. Sometimes you can catch the chateau reflecting in the pool. There are rooms inside with decorations from different periods that it was occupied, and they span several hundred years. There are some lovely paintings also. A word of warning there are many staircases and the round ones are very steep. There is a restaurant onsite and a gift shop. There are multiple paid parking lots but a certain T navigation put me behind the castle, while the big G put me in the nearby town. Well worth the price of admission. If not too busy plan for 1.5-2 hours.

This beautiful chateau is a delight to walk around (especially with your dog). The gardens are not as spectacular as other chateaus in the area but better better shaded and with more green grass for just lazing about on while admiring the castle. The chateau itself is quite small inside but very well preserved.
Photographers will love the 360 degree shots you can get of this castle.
There is paid parking close to the castle.
Dogs are admitted to the ground but must be carried in a bag inside the castle.
The Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud, established in 1101, is a monastic city and Plantagenet necropolis. The abbey comprises separate churches and living quarters for nuns, monks, lepers and repentants. The Abbaye has been very well restored over the years - with shiny clean walls and floors and very little inside the main church - a few tombs and an altar.
We found the most interesting part to be the rooms recounting the history of when the abbey was used as s prison, after the French Revolution. There were lots of information panels and artefacts from the era - bringing the rooms to life.
Parking is in the centre of town and can be busy.

The grounds are absolutely breathtaking! This place is definitely very remote and peaceful, which would have been perfect for nuns centuries ago to get closer to their faith. When I visited, it left a large impression on me. The stone work on the outside of the building was impressive and felt like a building that could easily fit into the Paris landscape. Overall, if you want to experience something that most people outside of France may not know about, I'd say visiting the grounds here and seeing what performances are happening here would be a great use of time. Hope that anyone else who comes here has just as good an experience as I did. Not to mention there is also some excellent restaurants close by!

Beautiful Gothic Abbey with a pretty good Modern art museum also. There was a Monet exhibition when I visited with friends; this was exceptional!! Lovely grounds, Abbey is well maintained and preserved. Some interpretation is in English, but this is inconsistent throughout. The history about the abbey being a prison etc was interesting too! Cafe in the grounds is good value, and there is good ice cream shop just outside the gates. Recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

Main reason for visiting was to see the effigies of Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard I (and Isabella of France). Enjoyed the large screens which had information in English as well. Information about the nuns who lived there and their daily lives. And about the Abbey as a prison. There was more there than I expected.
The terrace cafe had about 4 choices if baguette. No vegan options and the vegetarian baguette option had sold out. Typical. A couple of salads available. I had the goats cheese one which was OK. Cookies, pretzels and muffins also on offer.
The museum with the modern artwork was OK for a wander around.

Terrible to find parking but it is signed in its own way. Came here about 8 years ago and wow have they transformed it. Brilliant for a half or even full day and considering what you get and what they have done with it the €12 entry fee is very reasonable. Lots of things to see and very good, detailed explanations in French and English.
Set in a lovely visit, again worth a trip in its own right a fantastic way to spend a lovely day.
The Oradour sur Glane memory centre in France is a haunting and emotional memorial that preserves the remains of a town destroyed by the Nazis during World War II. Visitors describe it as a chilling yet worthwhile experience, provoking deep reflection on the tragic events that took place there. The preserved ruins of charred and bullet-ridden houses and a church, along with ceramic photos of families, serve as poignant reminders of the village's harrowing history.
Incredible experience, tremendous museum that needs time to visit before entering the village.
Emotional and peaceful walk among the carnage as you wonder how this could possibly happen.

Such a Sad History with so much devastation & destruction. The Centre is fantastically set out with lot of detail & on the underground pass from the Centre to the Village is Photos of all the people lost to the Nazi Storm Troppers that day. The Village itself is beautifully persevered, it's eerily quiet with plentiful Lizards & very few birds. Allow a good few hours on your visit to truly take in the scene & appreciate the place. It's left a painful feeling when I first entered the Village but now feel great full that we have been, seen & learnt about a truly awful time in History.

It was a sobering experience but I'm glad that these beautiful people are memorialized. I can't fathom the tragedy that occurred in the little town I was privileged enough to walk through. It is a chilly time of year to go but I prefer it, as we had the place to ourselves and were able to take good photos and reflect quietly. I thought maybe there could have been clearer signage from the parking lot. Directing to the entrance. Overall, a great experience. Never forget.

Well worth a visit. A very sad place but I feel we need to know our history. Its free to walk around the town.

An emotive experience, very worthwhile yet simultaneously saddening.
Two friends and myself stopped here during a tour, knowing of the significance of this village memorial.
We were not prepared for the depth of feeling upon seeing the faces exhibition, the ruined charred & bullet ridden houses & church, nor the ceramic photos of complete families displayed either at their homes or on their graves.
To me this is a “must see” memorial, not despite the negative feelings, but because of them.
If only more world leaders would visit, perhaps we would all be living in a better world.

Incredibly sombre and evocative location . Hard to explain the brutality of war but this small French village suffered a massacre of almost all of its inhabitants. Free parking a museum and access to the village and all it stands for . Visit if you’re near to remind us all about the brutality of people and to stop it happening again.

It was a wonderful experience, it was very serene place, I'm so glad I visited when we were travelling through France.

A deeply moving exhibition and monument to an unfathomably dark momenr in time. It's a dignified remembrance to those who perished and should remain as-is to warn future generations. I recommend the detour and purchasing the literature available on site, some written by the few survivors like Robert Hébras.

Very interesting story, nicely preserved. Would recommend visiting the memorial centre first, as that gives you some background information on the cruelties that happened here.
Futuroscope is a cutting-edge theme park featuring state-of-the-art 3D and 4D cinemas, motion simulators, and high-tech multimedia attractions. One of its newest attractions, Tornado Hunters, promises an exhilarating experience with a tornado simulation on a massive circular screen with special effects. Visitors can also embark on space training at Objective Mars or take flight in Extraordinary Travel. For younger guests, Futuropolis offers an interactive play area.
Last time, we went on a weekday (Friday out of holidays), and it was perfect! Apparently there were approx 2000 people, waiting time was never more than 5 min. Some attractions open a liter later during the day, but early enough to enjoy the whole park without problem.
Vere V — Google review
Great place for family most of attractions are for kids at least 120cm, so pay attention for heights of your little ones.
We went in February unfortunately weather was a bit cold but the great advantage, we entered directly to attractions, NO waiting lines.
It’s was a bit annoying that most of attractions are virtually so at some point I felt dizzy 😵💫
Their final fountain show is just AMAZING, I had never seen something similar!

We spent 2 days at Futuroscope! First week of January. Less people so no qeueing during this period. The kids loved the futurpolis (kidsland) however my daughter was measuring 102cm and most need to be 105cm tall, so be aware! However we liked the park alot. The raving rabbit attractions was very good. 4D was amazing. The late night open air show is fantastic. We all have a blast! The only thing that maybe can be improved are the opening hours of the coffeeshops and fast food restaurants. For take away coffee they were closed at 18:00. So no hot drinks after in the cold. The fast food restaurant had a break from 16-18:00… why? The recycle cups we can’t get a refund in that restaurant and we need to claim it outside in one of the foodtrucks , which of course they are closed too.. what a hassle! But other then that we all enjoy our days in Futuroscope.

Really great park.
Most of the things are good for all ages, excluding the Rollercoaster and the dance with the Robot.
The restaurant was nice and cheap.
Even with rain it is possible to have a nice day there.

The park had good attractions but we were disappointed. We expected more, expected a bigger park.. we were told we’d need 2 days but 1 day is enough.
Akane Ogata — Google review
A great park that's unlike any other I've been to. The attractions are varied and very exciting plus we really enjoyed the magic show. A strange thing is that some of the restaurants close after lunch and don't reopen until 7pm, which I found odd/frustrating for a theme park. I'm still rating 5* because I think the afternoon closure is a cultural thing.
D Bear — Google review
We loved it... we took a fast pass for 5 attractions and it saved us a lot of time. If you want to do the Danse with robot, do the double not the tripple seat version as the double seat robot is much much more intense.

A good parc with some nice rides. The parc is not too big and can be done in one day.
There are queues but with the app and showtimes you can make the most of your day!
Perrine R. — Google review
Perfect Day out with our teenage son. We visited on a non peak day, so queues were very low and could almost walk on most attractions. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Always a pleasure to visit, and the new Aquascope attraction is taking shape, looks like it will be awesome once opened.

Various 4D experiences , suitable for kids(7-year old and above) and adults. Winter time maybe no need express pass, summer time …not sure how long you have to queue for the popular one.
My favorite is “l’extraordinaire voyage” and my son’s favorite is “Les machines à voyager dans le temps ».

First visit at futuroscope, really nice. A good part of the attractions in 3d cinema, very popular awareness of the environment, very pleasant park
A pleasant place for a short stay with enough to have a good time at an affordable price. A bit sad because we didn't visit Arthur attraction😞
Like all parks, there is quite a wait for certain activities. I recommend🙌
Lirung LIDWINA — Google review
A very dated theme park with only a single rollercoaster ride. All the rest of the rides are video / simulator type rides. There are a few shows which were enjoyable. The queues went down quickly on most rides.
It's no Alton Towers so if you're expecting an experience like that then you'll probably be disappointed. It's still a nice day out though.

I went there for 2 days great experience gold pass for 99£ a day per person is a bit too much but you literally skip the hole queue of 1h everywhere there is a big arcade with everything you could imagine it was soo great. Bioparc de Doué-la-Fontaine is a unique zoo located in a prehistoric sedimentary rock quarry, offering natural habitats for its diverse range of animals. Situated in Main-et-Loire, France, it is known for housing rare species such as black rhinos and okapis. The park's 14 hectares feature various animals like anteaters, zebras, snow leopards, Sumatran tigers, and gibbons.
Best zoo I have ever visited. The layout, enclosures and everything are amazing
Charles Haworth — Google review
Absolutely wonderful zoological Gardens set in a remarkable array of quarry pits giving a unique possibility to get close to some amazing animals.
Very knowledgeable and attentive staff gave fascinating explanations about the lifestyles and conservation projects associated with this wide range of animals.
The aviaries are absolutely spectacular. So much space for the birds that you walk through and really feel that you are in their environment.
Genuinely one of my favourite places to visit in the area.
Certainly, my favourite zoo – anywhere!
Alister Clarke — Google review
Spend time with the animals in as close to nature as you will find, this isn't a zoo, no depressingly small cages.
Andy Hill — Google review
We took family there recently whilst on holiday. The two boys, aged 6 and 7 and the adults all really enjoyed it. Set in a beautiful stone quarry, various of animals and birds, wooden carvings of animals (the boys loved climbing on these and having photos on them!). Cafe available overlooking the giraffes and zebras. Numerous little kiosks around the site to buy a drink or snack. Each zone is clearly marked, so it's easy to follow to ensure you don't miss anything. Great gift shop. Parking is opposite, across the road. A great afternoon out!
Julie Morgan — Google review
Wonderful place for people of all ages. Plenty of space for visitors and excellent facilities. Cafes. Toilets. All animals were kept in large areas . Great day out.
Vinny Galloway — Google review
Excellent zoo. Animals are set in their natural environment and there are two routes - through tunnels and normal path to reach them. Tunnels give you break from the heat in the summer and you appear from them into brand new enviroment. You get very close to animals and there is good choice to see for one day. We arrived just before 11am and stayed until giraffes feeding at 5.30pm ( where you get the chance to feed them yourself). Shows (around 15min) are in French only but you get to see the animals being fed right at the end of it so it is worth it. We stopped for lunch in the giraffe restaurant and it was bit confusing as you get your main elsewhere , all bit heavy for me to eat in the summer with limited salad choice ( if any) but they had vegan burger my daughter was pleased about. Good gift shop. Visit here is highly recommended!

Amazing zoo,so much to see and do. Loved the bird enclosure and the goats, nice to get close to the animals. We'll designed so you can follow the path and see all exhibits. You can easily spend a whole day here

Very unusual place and one of the most nature-like animal parks I've been to. Brilliantly constructed into the underlying rocks, makes it feel almost as if there are no fences. Not too many animals in the park when we were there, but it's okay. Kind of gave it a real life feeling of animal spotting.
Søren Hansen — Google review
An excellently set out park which we found totally accessible for someone with a wheelchair which we borrowed from the site. The whole place was well marked all the way through from Stop 1 to Stop 38. The signs were in English as well as French. There are plenty of toilets dotted around the park and nice eating places too. (Sadly no vegan options). The only thing we didn’t take advantage of was the feeding times which would be well worth it with the lions and rhino etc. A lovely day and well worth a visit. 🤙

We enjoyed our day out, one of the best zoo we've been . Bring water to drink with you for it is a long walk. Well there is bar and restaurant and small shop for snacks that you can go to. Our kids love the small sport activity at the end bits and we love the caves bit and birds area. It is worth a visit. They have big parking at the front side of the zoo and souvenirs shop . I love France and all it's amazing architecture, but I have to say that this was a delightful day to see something totally different on our tour of France. It was fun to see the animals in such a natural type habitat. I was at first worried that the large spaces would make it so we would not be able to see the animals, but the viewing areas are so smartly set up so that you can see most corners. My family was all super pleased with putting this on our trip.
Shaunas Adventures — Google review
It is a different type of zoo. Animals seem to be kept more freely there. We really enjoyed this zoo. It's smaller than "regular" zoos, but it's a very fun one. We enjoyed there and it's highly recommended.
Maxim Bulanov — Google review
The best zoo I have ever been to. You have to see it to believe what they’ve done to create the most incredible spaces for their animals. Must see if you’re in that area, worth travelling to from far and wide for sure.
La Vallée Des Singes is a unique park where visitors can observe various species of monkeys, lemurs, and apes in their natural habitats. The walk-through enclosures provide an up-close experience with the animals, especially during feeding times when they come out in front for observation. Despite some areas showing signs of wear and occasional puddles on the paths, the overall experience is worth it. The park also focuses on conservation and education efforts.
Wow what a great day .perfect family activities.well run clean and well maintained. The experience of being so close to these beautiful creatures made me smile all day would definitely recommend. Its worth the money. And the food is very reasonable prices
Les Dobson — Google review
An excellent day out. Plenty of space to walk around and view the monkeys of all different variations in each section. It’s very well signposted to get from place to place either in order or getting around for the feeding times. There are nice spaces to sit and eat and the feeding times are well spaced out on the map. Thanks for a good family day out. 🤙
Tim Lowe — Google review
Very enjoyable and I never new there were that many species of monkeys. Wished they had kids meal combo.
Aissa Habi — Google review
Superb experience. Being so close to the lemurs and smaller monkeys was just wonderful, and you certainly don't feel like you are in a zoo. They really emphasize their conservation work. On site food is pricey though, as is admission, but still worth the visit.
Dawson Wilkins — Google review
It was a rotten day weatherwise and on entry we were warned the monkies are not fond of the rain but we weren't disappointed. In fact we got close up to plenty that ventured out of their huts. Viewed one feeding session but preferred it when not quite so frenzied.
They seem to do a lot of conservation and education work. The park looked a little tired in places and the paths were very puddly in places but was well worth the visit. My 4 year old nephew will keep these memories I hope. Thank you
Nick Williams — Google review
Great day out ,but with 1 cafe functioning the queue for food / drinks was ridiculous.
Colleen Williamson — Google review
It is a wonderful place where you can observe different species of monkeys in their natural habitat. I recommend the feeding times, when the monkeys come in front and you see them very well.
There are a lot of trees and I didn't feel the summer heat. It's a bit of a labirinth but once you figure out how to use the map you receive at the entrance, it will be ok.
I also liked that the peacocks are not afraid of people and this makes the place more amazing :)

Magnificent experience to walk during the day surrounded by primates.
Araceli Garcia — Google review
This is always a good day out with the kids, sometimes you see more monkey than others, depends on the weather and feeding times.
There is a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes and a pushchair for toddlers.
There are a lot of information signs with details about the breeds, however the vast majority of them are entirely in French, which is a shame.
There are several play areas with climbing frames and swings dotted throughout the park, which can allow adults and children to rest for a short while.
It can get busy, you will especially notice the crowds at each of the restaurants where queues are highly likely. However the food is of a good quality and the restaurant seemed fairly clean.
We have been before and we will no doubt come back again on another holiday 👍

2nd visit (went last year too when holidaying in the area) we really loved it again! You can get really up close to the smaller animals which is great to see, and we always go in time to see the gorilla's being fed which is well worth it - just to see the alpha males face as a banana comes flying towards him ☺! We had a picnic in the parking area (sounds odd but everyone was doing it as even that area is so nice and green and lush) well worth the visit with farmyard animals and a restaurant too smile we loved it and will be back again ☺
Puy du Fou, a theme park in France, features epic shows from Viking era to Ancient Rome. The resort offers free WiFi and newspapers in public areas, as well as free parking. Front desk staff is multilingual and can help with luggage storage and answer any questions about the area. The park also has outdoor seating and wheelchair accessibility. Alcohol is served at the resort and credit cards are accepted. Table service is available.
The best experience I have ever had in a themed park! Almost every spectacle is really amazing and beautiful. Some are really touching!
Must go place in France, I think!
We all wonder how the park could be make profit with so many investment for the scenery, actors and stuffs…
Five stars are not enough, I give 10 if possible!

An extraordinary experience of variety of shows outstanding from any other there parks. The use of modern technology enhances each show where classical theatrical media of communication is enriched by unusual props and animals. Each show is absolutely outstanding. If you wonder what you can be surprised by in a theatre stage, you will never guess it before you can actually see it.
The cons might be quite long waiting queues for each show. You are not physically able to do all the shows in one day. Major language spoke is French. Most shows translated into English while using the park's app. You also need your own transport to get in. No local buses operating. Taxi sign outside the park- none of taxis ever arrived.
Must see place for definite ;)
Aleksandra Kupiec — Google review
Great value for money. The shows were so fabulous and involved, great theatricality and the sets were amazing. The performers were acrobats, swords men and horsemen which made the performances.
French language performances (I cannot speak French) did not detract from the story or the performance.
Food and drinks seemed reasonably priced for a captive audience too.
Well done to everyone!

Personally I am not a fan of amusement parks. This concept is more interesting compared to Disney. However, it is way too crowded. We went to the Viking show three times, only got in the last time because we were there an hour ahead of the starting time. Plan on the app ahead of time. Buy the fast pass if you can get one. It will allow you to get into any show at last minute, which allows you to watch more shows. I bought my ticket last minute, there were no fast pass available anymore. But it might be worth it if you are visiting this place only for one day. They stamp you if you have to leave and can re enter one more time on the same day.

Amazing theme park! Saw all the shows and all were fantastic. You are able to learn a bit about French history, culture from the Vendée region and it’s incredibly entertaining.
Marguerite Wang — Google review
We visited Puy du Fou as a family. The shows are spectacular and really high quality, but we won't be going back. Although they start every show with a recorded message about "the unique bond between humans and animals" and seem to have animal welfare in high regard, we tend to have a different view. In many shows the animals perform in a setting that is hard to defend as natural, with loud music and many special effects. Even tough they are trained and used to this setting, it feels out of place.
Especially the gladiator show feels like a relic from the past with a tiger and a lion in a circus-like setting. Probably a good representation of how it was 2000 years ago, but not something for this day and age. Of course that's a personal opinion, but I hope this will at least help you to make an informed decision.
Please keep in mind all shows are in French. They offer real-time translations via their app, so download this beforehand. The storylines of the shows can be a bit moralistic sometimes, but the kids didn't really bother.
There are plenty of choices in terms of food and drinks, ranging from fast food to fine dining. I do recommend to book lunch and/or dinner in advance if you don't go for a sandwich or crêpes.
Expect to spend some time to park if you come by car. There is plenty of space, but there will be some waiting before you can enter the parking space. It took us about 30 minutes in total to go from the car park to the Covid check and into the park. Although not cheap I do recommend to buy the Pass Emotion, a kind of VIP ticket, if you only have a day. This will allow you late access at the shows and reserved seating. I'd recommend Puy du Fou to make it possible to also retrieve the Pass Emotion digitally. It's cumbersome to queue for this pass while you have booked everything online and in advance.
I hope that one day they will be able to host high quality shows without the need to involve a large amount of animals.

We've been going to this park for years, each time we visit France. Its absolutely spectacular shows are amazing. However, this year it was ultra packed..as if they'd let too many people inside. Queues were immense and we were turned away from shows. Such a shame as all the other times it's been fab!
Sharon Irvine — Google review
It is a great theme park well worth the 53 euro entrance fee. If you want to experience French culture, this is a better place than Disneyland Paris. Shows of less than 30 minutes are of high quality. The carefully well prepared show is even touching. Even if you don't know French, you won't have any problems enjoying it. Both children and parents can enjoy it together. Perfect!

The highlight of our family holiday. We spent two days in the park and it was incredible. The shows are amazing, the park clean, the staff and actors just great. I wish they would improve the web site booking system. It doesn’t work on many devices and is difficult to navigate and understand in English. I ended up having multiple emails and phone calls to confirm the booking.
But it was all worth it to experience the park.
(As others have noted the history is wrangled for a particular nationalist/catholic purpose. Take it with a pinch of salt!)

What can I say? Puy du fou...a crazy experience indeed, as 'fou' suggests. Left me in awe, wondering, gripped by stories, mesmerised by the artists, the remarkable storytelling, the talent and acrobatic abilities. The engineering and imagination gone into the making of this place are second to none! Everything works in clockwork perfection, each scene a second by second picture one could frame! Wizardry!!
* PS Take some sort of plastic sheet, like a garbage bags, for example, to sit on. Benches could be wet or humid. Pack a couple of sandwiches and apples to eat asyou wait in the line. It's worth getting an emotion pass, even if just for a day.

What a special place! You haven’t lived until you have been here. We have been twice now. The stagecraft is exceptional, the animals are cared for so well and the food was delicious. I tell everyone about this place, it’s worth staying for three days to see it all. Also worth pre booking dinner and lunch as the restaurants get fully booked out. It’s set in a forest and is the most amazing theme park (although it has no rides!) so many highlights for us. It is truly a place like no where else. The staff were so friendly and helpful too. Amazing theme park. All the shows are spectacular from stunts to special effects. The hotel "La citadelle" was a nice and pleasant hotel to stay in thanks to the helpful staff, wonderful decoration and breakfast included.
The restaurant "La table des ambassadeurs" was mind-blowing. The decoration and atmosphere send you back to the 17th century. The food and the all-you-can-eat buffet were amazing (local French products).
The park is worth being visited for at least 2 days if you want to see the best out of it. It also includes animal pens. The atmosphere (villages, stalls, music, decoration, characters, shows) keeps you amazed.

Association Hermione La Fayette is a majestic flagship that showcases the work of a boatswain. Visitors can experience the rigging by trying out the Accro-Mats, offering a unique opportunity to reach great heights. The Royal Ropery, an impressive 374m tall building, is also worth exploring. Rochefort itself is steeped in history, with reminders of Lafayette and Napoleon at every turn.
Magnifique. A great reason to visit Rochefort. Hermione is nothing else than a piece of art, a volunteering effort, a very passionate crew. Thank you all for reviving the history thru this glorious ship and letting us the visitors to enjoy it. A must see in this part of France.

We had a wander round in the mid-afternoon, it was great to see a tall ship that had clearly been lovingly reconstructed. Unfortunately, partly due to the size of our group, the cost of guided tours were a little more than we were willing to stomach. However, just the setting it's in and the surrounding area is well worth a look.

It is a very calming and educational place and is perfect for the whole family, adults and children. It includes a multitude of aquariums and numerous species of fish and marine life, but also an Amazonian forest. At the exit there is also a toy shop with a wide variety of plush toys in the form of fish and other specific animals. I recommend the visit without any hesitation

I have been in a few European aquariums and this one is only good. There is plenty to see but it lacks the possibility of interacting with some of the animals which for children can be a little boring. This aquarium is underrated. It's actually not that small, with toddlers, we spent a good 1.5-2 hours in here. love the long opening hours from 10-20. Totally worth coming back to La Rochelle for. The first floor has all the local Atlantic fish (which are like fish we eat? So they were pretty ugly). But when you first come in, you come into a very cool jellyfish tunnel. Then on the upper floor, you start to see more colorful fish from Indo-pacific and that was really fun. The facilities are nice, they have some really cool sea horses that I haven't really seen elsewhere. Some tanks are low where you can look from above without a glass (a lot of confidence in people not touching the fish...) and a lot of different type of lobsters and crabs. They have a large tank with maybe 6 medium and small sharks which you can see really well. The coolest part was the sea turtle which I honestly have not seen anywhere else. Maybe this isn't world class like the Osaka Aquarium or the Okinawa one but it's pretty good and I would probably get an annual membership next time. Absolutely no crowds on an October Monday. Awesome.

Catastrophe! It was extremely crowded and thus not possible to enjoy the visit. Definitely not worth the entrance fee. In addition it was really noisy and no COVID protections are in place.

One of the most beautiful aquarium in the world, explanations in English and French. From local to tropical, fish, mussels, to oysters, so much to see and learn. It's all so well maintained. Take some 2,5 hrs for the visit

A curious aquarium with great variety of water creatures. Try to avoid going from 11 to 15 as there are too many people. It is open till very late.

Visited in September on a Sunday. Busy enough but not overcrowded. Good aquarium with wide variety of species and water tanks. €17.50 each, plus parking for four adults was quite a lot to pay.

This is a superb aquarium and was the highlight of our visit to La Rochelle.
There is very reasonable parking just outside which makes getting there very easy. All the exhibits have dual language information so perfect for French and English speakers. The aquarium is large over two floors organised by ocean and finishing with a tropical rainforest exhibit!
As a family of four it cost €60, so not a cheap activity, we were there about two hours. However the kids loved it, it was very well done, educational and exciting so I’d say worth the fee. I’d recommend a visit.

There were some interesting species to see at La Rochelle Aquarium!
We enjoyed walking around, having a look at the different fish and taking photos. However, it was so busy and loud that we could barely hear ourselves think - it was also really difficult to get to the front of each tank to be able to have a closer look at the fish inside.
There also wasn’t as much variety as we expected for the ticket price, which was a bit of a shame.
I definitely do not recommend going during a school holiday or it will be overly packed but, otherwise, it was a nice enough experience.

I went here with my family. The aquarium was extremely packed with people even thought it was late afternoon. There was a big line of people in front of entrance. I advance you to buy tickets online. It was really hot inside, probably thanks to the crowds. You have to find one spot by the glass and just move with the crowd, if you want to see everything. Also, I was looking forward to buying the aquariums touristic coin, but they were sold out. But I have to say that the place is huge and they've got many kinds of fish, crabs, etc. It was beautiful, but the crowds were uncomfortable. Overall, it was nice.
Vieux-Port is a charming and bustling harbor featuring the imposing La Chaîne and Saint-Nicolas towers, which have been repurposed into a museum and an observation deck. Along Quai Duperré, visitors can find trendy wine bars, seafood restaurants, and vendors selling delicious crêpes. In the summer, Cours des Dames hosts stalls offering a variety of goods such as crafts, cheeses, and scenic paintings.
The Monolithic Church of Saint-Emilion is a remarkable underground place of worship constructed from limestone during the 12th century. The church features a 68-meter bell tower that offers an amazing panoramic view of the city with 365 degrees visibility. It is worth noting that most of the tombs and catacombs inside are privately owned, which is somewhat unusual for such historical landmarks not to be publicly held. Unfortunately, photography is prohibited on-site.
What a fabulous place to view Saint Émilion from. At the top of the tower you can see 365° around the city. I visited in December so there weren’t many tourists around. Directly across from the tower you can sign out the key which allows entry into the tower and climb for a spectacular view. Highly recommend.

Beautiful church and when we were there a market was running just outside on the grounds. Plenty of people wandering and enjoying what was on offer. The cathedral itself is worth a visit, as it was quite stunning inside. The market had everything from bread and cheese to oysters and beer. The market is just down and around a hallway, so not very spacious, but a great experience.

A very interesting tour with a great guide at a sensible price. This is not only an intriguing tour but it continues to be available out of the main season so a great activity to book in case it’s raining or indeed too hot! As it happened the weather on the day was perfect, and an allowed us an out of season uncrowded walk around a still very lively and beautiful Saint Emilion and an outside drink in the square by the church. A big success for my group of 6 friends.

Impressive toombs and catacombs!
Had no idea about their existence...Little bit unusual that they are mostly private owned, and not set as a public/city good, and as well.no photos are allowed🤔!?

The guided tour of the monolithic church was very good (English tours are available and tickets can be purchased from the tourist office). Unfortunately, pictures are not allowed inside. Abandonment at various points in the past means the interior is a bit baren, but still incredible that it was all carved out of the rock. There are also a few remaining carvings that can be seen decorating the interior. Worth visiting!

Highlight of St Emilion for me. Get a key from the tourist office for 2 EUR. 196 steps up, with great views from the very top. Nobody else was in there at the time.
In comparison, the Bordeaux cathedral's similar bell tower is 6 EUR, but you need an allotted time slot, has more steps, was quite busy, and has more monotonous views across the city centre. But a good view of the cathedral.

196 steps to the top but the views make up for everything and more. we came here late on a Sunday afternoon and had the whole place to ourselves bar another group of 3 :) stunning! And a great place to kickstart our st emilion maiden trip

We stumbled across the tower in Saint Emilion. It’s a beautiful centerpiece of the town. We were delighted to hear we could go up to the view tower for just €2 pp.
It is accessed through a small door which can be opened with a key that you will receive from the tourist office located in the middle of the town beside the structure. They hold onto a form of ID in return for the key and you will receive it back once the key is returned.
The photos speak for themselves! If you’re visiting Saint Emilion, definitely check it out.

Very interesting place when done as part of a tour to understand the history and politics of the region and era.
Lots of steps and uneven floors however so consider this if you have any mobility issues whatsoever.
No photos or videos are allowed in the monuments, so be sure to take your time and take picture in your head to take away!
Paul Swarbrick — Google review
At the heart of the city, the monolithic church reminds the religious activity of the city in the Middle Ages and intrigues by its unusual design. If it shows itself in the eyes of the visitor by the position of a 68-meter-high bell tower - take you time, climb it till the top and take some pictures
Giovanni Negri — Google review
The church is impressive, as it is fully carved out in the rock. However, there is very left of the original decorations as it was desacralised after the French Revolution and has remained in private hands ever since. The church can only be visited in a guided tour that includes the Trinity Chapel, Saint Emilion’s grotto and the Catacombs. The tour is informative but I felt it was a bit too long (1h). Also, notice that pictures are not allowed inside of the monuments.

AMAZING CHURCH INSIDE, GREAT VIEWS OUTSIDE Stunning centerpiece of the town of Saint Emilion, it's the landmark that you'll remember. The church inside is beautiful and on a sunny day, the sun streams in through the stained glass windows.
Beautiful to look at on the inside, it also has some amazing medieval cloisters that you can walk around. The views and pictures that you'll get from it are amazing and there's a lookout point just outside that you will be able to see the whole town from.
You can really feel what life is really like in the middle of the French countryside from here. Really amazing experience if you come here.

Was a good night out, lots going on good food and service. My only criticism would be the comedian acting disabled / shy, it came over to me as making fun of people with disabilities, although I’m sure this wasn’t the intention. I’d probably suggest he tones that down a bit as to be sure not to offend. Overall a very entertaining night, very colourful and spectacular with sequins everywhere !

Great little zoo involved in many international conservations programs. The path are surrounded with exuberant vegetation making you feel like you're in the middle of nature. Around 50 species available in great natural looking enclosures. Some shows available at times during the day. Reasonable in price, 16.50€ for an adult. The bar- restaurant is also reasonable in price.

A somewhat smaller zoo, but beautifull and fun. There is an optimal route which should take you past all enclosures. The zoo was very nice for (young) children. Take your time and you will have a nice visit. There is nectar at the entrace for €1 which you can feed to some birds, which is really worth it.
Jan Jaap z — Google review
A nice place to spend a couple of hours at a reasonable price. €58 ( 2 adults, 2 children). You can get €1 off per person in the tourist discount booklets. The zoo itself is for animals that are at risk of extinction. A short, smooth and easy place to get around and mostly shaded due to tree/plant cover. Basic food offering at the cafe. Souvenir shop had some interesting/ rare products. We got free parking outside easily towards end of peak season. You might need to research parking options during peak season. The guide booklet is in French. An English option would help.

Really enjoyed this zoo. We spent a couple of hours there. It was a nice walk around with plenty to see. The only thing one of the kids didn't like was the open bird sanctuary. It freaked her out a little bit due to the closeness of the birds, but we went through that bit pretty quick for her. There was also no problem pushing a baby stroller around too.

Phare des Baleines is an octagonal tower made of limestone that was constructed in the mid-1850s. Visitors can climb to the top for a fee of 3.5 euros, where they will enjoy breathtaking views of their surroundings. The tower also provides some historical information about the island's maritime activities. A well-stocked gift shop and a few touristy knick-knack shops are available nearby, as well as several cafes and restaurants.
Had a beautiful cycle ride from La Flotte to Phare des Baleines and was not disappointed. We climed the tower which had the most amazing stone spiral staircase. The view from the top was amazing and well worth the effort. Lots of places to eat and buy a drink. A lovely place to visit 😁

Beautiful overview over the sea and island, even on less sunny days a visit to consider. The climb to the top is a bit long but not impossible. With the right weather conditions and high tide it is possible to spot 'cross seas'. A sea state that only happens in rare places in the world, among which at the Phare des Baleines. Don't forget to check out the small souvenir shop.

Located at the north end of the île de Ré, it is well worth a drive up!
There is plenty of paid parking, a few cafés , an ice cream parlour and several shops.
You can visit the museum, walk up the tower, or just admire the architecture from the gardens. The views out to sea are amazing - you can see La Tranche sur Mer and the south Vendée coast from the ramparts.

Very picturesque sightseeing and one of the most famous island landmarks. One would believe it's the end of the island - although it is the most Western point, it is technically not, as the island as got a hook shape the real end is rather the Trousse-chemise beach. You cannot park at the lighthouse itself - car parks are now a few minutes walk away, which actually makes the experience much better.

Wonderful lighthouse that invites to climb up on the top. When the ocean is at low tide, catching crabs is most fun for the kids.

3.5 euros for the climb up, went early before the clouds and it was a challenging but not too difficult climb up the lighthouse. Very nice zoo.
Forest area, shaded, lots of benches and quite big, so it's a nice walk. Good toilets and a place to tap drinking water. Restaurant/food were not very expensive like often in these places.
The usual animals, not very big enclosures, but new ones are being made.
Outside of high season: not busy at all, great 👍

I don’t specially loves zoos because I think that animals are better in nature but I agree with the fact that it helps the conservation of different species.
This zoo is great. It’s big and have lots of varieties of animals. However the enclosure are too small for some animals. Specially for the big cats, the girafes, the elephants and the sea lions. It’s so small that they go in circles around their enclosure because they can’t do anything. I found this really small for this zoo because it’s beautiful.
Otherwise it’s great and we spent almost 4 hours there visiting everything. But during the school holidays there is too much people and it’s horrible.
I would recommend this zoo for kids but I wouldn’t place it in the top zoos in France because of some enclosure.

Quite an interesting zoo, definitely more 'in contact' zoo, than the ones I have seen in other countries, the animals seemed in more proximity than other zoos, it would have even been even nicer if some of the animals had more space, here and there if feels cramped..but over all a great zoo..

A must visit. This is without a doubt the best zoo I have ever visited.
The environment is relaxed and not too busy. You can really get up close to the animals. Lots of wild cats to see...up close. Also lots of other animals. I loved how there was a path to follow, so you can't miss anything.
Takes a good 3-4 hours to cover the whole zoo.
Far Sab — Google review
We visited whilst staying in La Palmyre and whilst not a zoo fan, we had a great day out.
When they say you need four hours, you need four hours to be able to take it all in. There is a clearly signposted route through the zoo and also a parrot and sea lion show, which is on a couple of times through the day. There is a couple of eateries but we took a picnic with us and there was plenty of benches/tables to sit at on the way round. There is also plenty of shade so even on a hot day there’s areas to get out the sun whilst walking around.
There was a huge array of different animals and species to view with both their French and English names on the info boards. You can buy some popcorn at the entry (€2.50 a bag) which you can use to feel the animals with. There’s a feeding area for the giraffes which was a delight but take some, wet wipes with you if you do as there isn’t any soap in the toilets.
We arrived at 11:30 and the zoo was already very busy but still plenty of parking available. Don’t be shy to park right at the entrance to the car park, next to the road as it’s only a short walk along the road to the entrance. Also be aware that on a hit sunny day, the animals are either asleep or rather static, basking in the great La Palmyre heat.
Overall it was a great day out for all ages and very reasonably priced at €19 per adult.
Tweedie — Google review
Visited here while on holiday with the wife and 2 teenagers. This is one of the best zoos we've been to, mainly due to the range of animals and how close you can get to them.
When you pay, buy a bag of popcorn or two as you can feed many of the animals by hand. Our favourites were the giraffes and the emus (beware the emus will steal the bag if you're not careful). If you follow the signs to guide your journey round the zoo, at the end there is a goat corral where you can get in with the 50+ goats and offload your remaining popcorn. This experience is almost worth the entry fee alone 🤣
Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area or even worth driving to 👍🏻

I was and still am shocked and I regret visiting the zoo in La Palmyre… cant explain why they have 4stars. the wolves are too many in a very small enclosure. They show typical psychological illness behaviors and any social interactions with eachother. Felt really bad watching them. They have no possibilities to hide, because there are no trees, holes or stones big enough in their enclosure and the few small buildings they have are completely open and visible in all directions - you can watch them from every angle. This description unfortunatley fits to the enclosures for the Lions, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, bisons, donkeys.. why arent there trees, bushes, stones? And why do you close the doors to the inner enclosures so that the animals cant hide and rest if they need it? Ah, right, because EVERYTHING in this zoo is build and designed for the visitor. I can give you a guarantee for seeing every Animal that is advertised on the Homepage or Zoomap. The sealions have the worst „home“ ever. They live in a tiny Swimmingpool and get an Electric shock if they come too close to the fence. Humans too, haha. Only people who absolutely never have heard or read anything about animalprotection would like it here. Impossible to watch the animals and interprete that they are healthy or happy.

The 18th century landmark Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux is a large and beautiful public square with intricate architecture that was built to modernize the city. It is especially noted for its elegant marble facades and vast reflecting pool. Today, it houses the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
This is a wonderful place to visit. This square dates back to the 18th century and is symbolic of the beauty of Bordeaux. It is outside the original fortification walls of the city and is on a wide open space, next to the river Garonne. It is encircled by some amazing, historic buildings, it is the location of the Water Mirror and the views all around are magical. Just wonderful place to enjoy with your family.

Here at dusk, we saw loads of photographers and thinking it would evolve into some kind of fountain show, we waited, and waited as the water drained and returned.... I asked another 'watcher ' if anything else happened and he told me there was a fog to come - a bit later he said after googling it, that it had been cancelled through Covid and never reinstated so who knows 🤷♀️. A pretty place but not spectacular.

Incomparable views with majestic buildings on one side and the Dordogne on the other, under a beautiful sky. Kids and adults alike will enjoy cooling their feet and taking pictures at the reflecting pool.

BEAUTIFUL EVEN UNDER CONSTRUCTION
When I visited Bordeaux's most famous buildings, some of it was under construction and there was no water in the fountain. That didn't ruin what was otherwise a memorable visit to the Place de la Bourse.
It's a nice square to hang around in and looks even better at night.
Admittedly, you can't really visit the inside (not that I'm aware?) but it's nice to visit.

This is a square landmark for the town, where everybody comes here for view of the town and the river, and it's an amusement park for kids to play with fountain.
The tram stop here as well, just right next to the walking area.

The city is wonderful, full of beautiful buildings. The square has an extremely beautiful and famous fountain. Unfortunately, taking pictures is difficult because it is always full of people. We really enjoyed the square and the whole city during our visit.
The Dune of Pilat is a remarkable natural feature located in La-Teste-de-Buch, Arcachon Bay, roughly 60 km from Bordeaux. Its height of 110m above sea level makes it the highest sand dune in Europe and distinguishes it from other dunes across the globe. Visitors can enjoy panoramic views by climbing to the top, which takes about 10-15 minutes at a steady pace while following recent footprints to ease ascent.
Awesome place, beautiful view, must see. And definitely on bucket list.
Luka Bo?njak — Google review
It was surprising to see a mountain of sand since we expected quite flat dune with access to ocean but it was great experience to climb there anywhere. Lots of people so earlier hours is a better time to visit
Parking fee is minimum 6 euro for 4 hours, you can pay at the gate when leaving

An incredible natural phenomena! The massive dune squeezed between the sea and the forest is impressive. Be prepared for a bit of a climb, walking up and along the dune took a bit more effort than I had expected.
Scott Fjordbotten — Google review
Beautiful and large. The entrance is quite steep, with the soft sand, it's getting harder to climb. Once you concured the slope, you will find an extremely beatiful sea shore and beach. It's a great place for a sunny day.
Matteo Fu — Google review
Impressive vistas from atop the Dune. Follow the most recent footprints to make the ascent easier (10-15 min at a steady pace). Stop to take in the view on the way up as, you climb above the tree line.

Amazingly high sand dunes. Great views over the ocean and forests. Perfect place for sunsets. Most busy part is where the parking spot is. Stray away and you’ll have space enough :)

gorgeous dune, for all sportive activities; don't underestimate the physical effort to climb it; but the view is stunning, especially sunset view

This should be in your top 3 must-visit destinations in France! The mini desert is incredible and can be a challenge to go up and down the sand. Being there at sunset is outstanding!

Best Sandy dunes in Europe, worth the detour and even a night stay in the area. Prepare yourself to hike a big Sandy Hill, but the view at the top is worth it. Way easier going down.

Unique and a great little workout. Nice sand and forest structure to catch great views and to enjoy.

It's such a cool place to enjoy the sunset! It's my second time here, and the views are breathtaking. At the moment, you can still see the remains of last year's fires. But nature will regenrate for sure and the beautiful forest behind the dunes will be all green again. Climbing can be a bit physical, even if you take the stairs, but it's really worth it 😄

Amazing natural feature of nature. Climbing can be physical, 1 step up, 2 steps down. Barefoot is easier to climb. And fun. The view is amazing at the top of the dune.

Very fine sand dune. A bit of a trek but the view is worth all of it. Highly recommended!

A must stop if you are in the area. Plenty of parking and a few rip off takeaway outlets.
The views from the top of the dune are well worth the effort of getting to the top but I would recomend using the steps provided.
Andy Bro — Google review
Just... stunning. Really. ~15€/person for a ticket from Bordeaux to Arcachon and then to the Dune du Pilat was absolutely worth it for the trip up and down the dune as well as the surprising _lack_ of people relaxing at the beach, even though it was still quite hot when we went there! You can relax on the top/on the beach at the bottom, you can hike along the (massively long) dune and take in the view and do couple of other things (like paragliding) too.
TheOutrageousZ — Google review
This is a must see spot if you’re in the region. The parking was not too expensive (less than 8€) and the views were incredible. Good to bring a picnic blanket and be prepared for some wind coming up from the ocean. The beach is accessible, but it’s a long walk back up the dune. Definitely worth a visit in any case.
The religious compound renowned for pilgrimage and healing in Lourdes comprises a complex of structures including a grotto, baths, and churches. The area's historical significance dates back to ancient times when it served as an oppidum hill during the Roman era. This is evident from various artifacts uncovered in the late 19th century, such as remnants of walls, fragments of a citadel, and a pagan temple devoted to water deities.
I was blessed to be able to visit during my last pilgrimage in France.
There is a daily Marian procession in the evening that's been happening for hundreds of years.
There are daily confessions in multiple languages in a building across the water so that's always available.
Pre-covid there is also an opportunity to be dunked in the water from the fountain but now it's just water poured from a jug that you wash yourself with.
It is definitely worth a visit for anyone in south west France, especially if you're Catholic.

I was overwhelmed by this precious, holy place! The architecture and artwork take your breath away. I was fortunate to pray in all 3 churches, the Grotto, walk the stations of the cross up the hill, attend mass and, of course, get the water. And all this was during Holy Week! A must see for everyone!

We went back to Lourdes crossing the Pyrenees mountains covered in fresh snow coming from Spain. We like to walk near the river from the entrance to the basílicas and the grotto. We were able to attend a Rosary for World peace in five languages. Each basilica has unique characteristics to explore. #AbuelosMochileros

Beautiful serene place to revive your religious spirit. Lots of events happening throughout the day and in different languages. Daily Eucharistic procession at 5pm. Daily candlelight rosary procession at 9pm. Very touching processions. Masses held in various languages in the chapels and Basilica of Immaculate Conception, Basilica of the Rosary, etc. The grotto is beautiful and has Masses and rosaries said at the Grotto. Definitely worth the visit. Lots of shops selling religious, good quality items. Very friendly and safe place overall.

The iconic Grotto of Massabielle, where the Virgin Mary is said to have appeared to Bernadette Soubirous, is a moving and serene site. The atmosphere of devotion and the healing waters of the spring make this pilgrimage destination truly unique. Lourdes offers a deeply spiritual and reflective experience for visitors from around the world."

A once in a lifetime experience. We felt so blessed to have a the opportunity to visit this wonderful place despite the lengthy journey from Paris. I’ve been to other Marian sanctuaries including the Guadalupe and Fatima, yet enjoyed this one the most.
The Sanctuary is breathtaking and the minute you walk in you can feel the peace and beauty that lies inside. There were so many pilgrims yet everything was so well organized that at no point did we feel overwhelmed. The group of volunteers is unlike anything I’ve seen before and the main Basilique is astonishingly beautiful.
We enjoyed attending mass in the early morning - and were rejoiced to attend one in our native language on Saturday along with confessions. The visit to the Grotto was absolutely special and the evening procession can’t be put into words - something you have to experience to describe.
We stayed for two full days and three nights, which I highly recommend so you can absorb the experience without feeling rushed.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes is one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites in the entire world. It is located in the south of France, where a local girl named Bernadette experienced a series of apparitions of the Virgin Mary during 1858. In the years that followed, a series of churches were built up around the Grotto where Bernadette had her visions, forming what is today the Sanctuary in Lourdes.
Just atop the grotto, you will find the highlight churches, the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (1862-71) along with a Crypt (1866), which the Virgin Mary requested the people to build through St. Bernadette. This is also where you can visit the Byzantine style Basilica of Our Lady of Rosary (1899).
Other chapels and houses of worship line the outer grounds of the Sanctuary, including another major Basilica of St. Pius X (1958) which is uniquely built underground. There is an outdoor chapel of candles and hillside Way of the Cross walk amongst other points of interest.
Church services are held throughout the day at the various chapels and churches around the Sanctuary. Check online for service time and locations by language. You can also pick up a daily schedule at the Information Centre within the Sanctuary grounds.
While on the Sanctuary grounds, visitors can collect holy water from the grotto springs. It is believed that these waters contain healing powers. There are even bathing opportunities in the healing waters as well. Prayer candles can also be left at the chapel of candles. In the evenings, visitors can participate in a nightlight candle processions that are held daily during the warmer months of the year,
Located in the province of Huesca, Spain, the Monasterio Nuevo de San Juan de la Peña is a monastery complex that dates back to the 10th and 17th centuries. This area holds significant cultural heritage with examples of Romanesque art and architectural treasures found in nearby towns. It is also part of the Way of Saint James pilgrims' route designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The origins of the monastery date back to the darkest early Middle Ages (10th century) when the craggy mountains served as a safe refuge for the Christian communities beset by the Moors. Covered by one of these enormous rocks, known as the “Monte Pano”, the first building was erected, to which further additions were made over the centuries. The exterior cloister is a gem of Aragonese Romanesque. After the original building was destroyed at the end of the 10th century, Sancho Mayor of Navarra refounded the monastery during the first third of the 11th century. So began its era of splendour, as the first Aragonese kings endowed it with numerous properties, power and influence. In the interior the following stand out: the pre-romanesque church, the 12th century paintings of San Cosme and San Damian, the so-called Noblemens’ Pantheon, the upper church which was consecrated in 1094 and the Gothic chapel of San Victorian. Other buildings constructed in later centuries also stand out, such as the Royal Pantheon, in Neoclassic style, erected in the last third of the 18th century.

We decided to take a slight detour to see this Monastery and boy it didn't disappoint!
Increadible views as we drove up, had to stop a couple of times to take it in.
We had a lovely warm and clear day so got some nice pictures with the drone as well.
We had a nice gentle walk round, lots of things to look at and read. Couldn't help but feel that some of the site has lost its authenticity due to the rather significant restoration and preservative measures that have been done since its renovation. Still highly recommend though.
Jon Thwaites — Google review
It amazes me how some people complain and give it a low rate because the road where the old monastery is, is dangerous, because it is in the mountain, because you have to get the tickets in the new monastery, and things like that. I do understand those who complain because the information in the new monastery is in Spanish. I didn't even notice, as I am Spanish and long ago made the effort to learn a bit of English for when I travel. I give it five stars because both monasteries are very interesting, the guide we had was very knowledgeable and communicated well. Go with time, so you can really enjoy both visits. We were on bycicles crossing Spain, and they kept the bikes for us while we saw both monasteries.
Fili V — Google review
So glad we went the drive up is incredible the views are just breathtaking. The new monastery looks very it of place but that's only because you pass the outside of the old first. Both are incredible buildings with such history attached to them. We purchased the book and took the audio guide round which made the experience better.
Danielle Thwaites — Google review
Not good at all. The pictures you see carved in the mountain is separate from the monastery three miles away in an uncomfortable location. The monastery itself is isolated and the road is dangerous and on the mountain.

Buy a ticket at the more modern monestary before driving further down to the older site as they don't sell them there. It is well worth a visit! Gorgeous views if you continue your journey down the mountain
Yvette Bessels — Google review
This exquisite monastic building, where the grail was once supposed to be kept, (just copy on display now(see photo)) is cut into the rock on the side of a mountain. You can hike the twenty kilometres up from Jaca ( but bring lots of water in the summer as it's hot and humid) and its well worth the effort. Exterior has immaculate brickwork and windows while the inner church has an atmospheric apse and nave.
Stuart McCleane — Google review
Cashing in on a natural wonder! A 30 minute drive from Jaca - a wasted journey. You have to pay to even see the outside! They don't let you park and walk up to see the wonder of the boulder over the monastery. They make you drive all the way up to the new monastery and pay for entry and a shuttle bus to go back down to see it. And at €12 it's not worth it for us! Very disappointing! Tried to take photos so you can see it but sadly they didn't come out well.

Beautiful and really special. You can explore and discover how the monks used to live by walking over the remains of the monastery. White sculptures visually describe monastic life.
The iconic Rocher de la Vierge is a dramatic rock formation with beautiful views of the Atlantic Ocean that is popular with tourists. The statue of the Virgin Mary that stands atop it is a reminder of the miraculous return of stricken whalers in 1864.

Interesting mixture of aquarium and maritime museum. History of fishing and whaling is important to show the impact these have had. Spread across 5 levels. Good for families with kids. A few documentaries where screened during our visit. Amazing views from the rooftop and upper levels. Restaurant and cafe were closed when we visited though. Museum shop on site with branded products for kids and gifts for adults.

I enjoyed this much more than I believe I would have! So much to see and it was not crowded so we could really take our time enjoying all the aquariums and displays. I learned so much!! Don't worry if you don't speak or read French, you can read the English translations. And bonus, there's plenty to see right outside the aquarium!

I have to say that I was a little disappointed considering the ticket price and what was to see . The brightest point of the visit were turtles and some nice tanks with sharks but the rest was a mediocre experience which is a shame . The aquarium is way too small to display all the beauty of ocean life and there is not much experience for the kids to get them really interested since they can only look but not interact . They get bored pretty quick . There is not much else to share here I am afraid . If you visited aquariums in different countries , you can see the difference , if not , then probably you might find this one interesting .

Kids really enjoyed it we went in august it wasn’t too busy and lots to see we were only there about 2 hours but was great value at less than £50 for 4 and saw things we have never seen before and sharks and rays were big and my little boy loved it

Very friendly staff at reception - the woman who served us was very gentil and kind, by far the kindest person I have met in the Basque Country so far.
The aquarium was clean - they had a good display of the sea life and local history within their museum.
I would say, that it is very similar to the Atlantis in Dubai. Although you can’t touch any of the sea life and the animation wasn’t great…
Though I do recommend it.

The highlight of the aquarium in Biarritz is undoubtedly the last floor, where you can find a mesmerizing display of tropical fish. Got to see sea lions and many other fish and mammals. They do feed the sea lions at certain times per schedule. There is a giant tank with sharks, sea turtles and so so much more. Tons to see, very similar to Shedd Aquarium in Chicago but smaller. Place to eat and drink also. Highly recommended!

Very nice mid-sized aquarium right in the middle of Biarritz. Tickets are fairly priced. Good selection of displays including a large sized central fish tank and a seal enclosure. It was extremely busy when we went and the venue is completely enclosed and 98% of people were not wearing masks. Condensation all over the glass due to the amount of people inside and the lack of ventilation which means I give it 4 stars.
