Spacious parking, clean and comfortable mosque for worship. guests visiting Cirebon and stopping by for prayers and religious tourism continue to grow. It's time to increase the number of women's toilets. Interesting architecture, able to accommodate large numbers of worshipers. For early morning worshipers who need breakfast, there are street vendors around the main square and mosque. There is also an application for those who want to make non-cash donations. The courtyard of the mosque continues with the square of the Attorney General's Office. The appearance of the main square gate is very beautiful, combined with a beautiful garden. For those who like jogging, a safe track is available, by going around the main square.

At-Taqwa Great Mosque
Masjid Raya At-Taqwa is a most beautifull mosque in West Java. It is in Jl. RA. Kartini no 2 Cirebon.
At-Taqwa Mosque or At-Taqwa Grand MASJID is a historical mosque in the city of Cirebon, West Java, founded in 1918.
Today it is one of the congregational masjid in Cirebon and considered an icon of the city of cirebon.
The masjid also provides Islamic learning as well as public services such as blood donation and a free ambulance.
The masjid was founded in a village called Kejaksan. Initially, it consisted of two sections; one is used as the masjid called Tajug Agung (the present At-Taqwa Masjid) and the other half is used as an alun-alun (the present Kejaksan Square).
The mosque was initially named Tajug Agung, but due to the aging structure and the rising demand for an increased prayer capacity, R.M. Arhatha, then head of the Cirebon city Council of Religious Affairs had the idea to renovate Tajug Agung and rename it to At-Taqwa Mosque.
The name Tajug Agung roughly corresponds to the "Great Mosque" and as there was already a great mosque located in the Kasepuhan (the present-day Great Mosque of Sang Cipta Rasa), the officials considered two mosques with the name "great mosque" is unjustifiable. In 1951 the reconstruction of the mosque began and it was inaugurated as At-Taqwa in 1963.

This mosque provides great facilities. Starting from the canteen/trade place located in a certain area so that the mosque is not dirty & smelly, the toilets are clean & accompanied by soap, and a large parking area. Of course it makes worship feel comfortable.

So hot here and so inside the mosque. Theres a broken refrigator in the women's area. A nice thing here is they have a dedicated preparation room for women that you can use to do makeup or such.

A TRUE great Mosque. Not only for the greatness of the building. But also for its facilities and services. Free hot ginger drinks after every Maghrib prayer. Library and reading corner almost always open. Free parking. The minaret as city port watch tower. Food courts.

Located in the the city center nearby alun-alun, the mosque is indeed very strategic, big, and clean.
It is cool inside the mosque, but cirebon itself is so hot (around 35 C at time of my visit).
Overall, I like the mosque and its surrounding. It is easy to buy some local foods (for food traveller),,, ehehhe

A place to crash from Cirebon's hot sun. Centrally located in Cirebon, the access is very easy to this mosque. The mosque is big and cool inside. I has also the highest tower in Cirebon, so if you want to see Cirebon from the top, it is one of the option.

At first I didn't expect much from that place because the last time I visited there the atmosphere was unpleasant but all of that was refuted by the place when I visited it again, the At-Taqwa Grand Mosque is quite an impressive place for me because it can give an impression of worship that I will never forget.

Sunyaragi Cave Park is a historic location resembling a cavern with gardens that was constructed by the sultans of Cirebon as a place for rest and meditation. It's a serene and unique location made from reefs that offers visitors an atmosphere of peacefulness. Despite being located close to the city, this vibrant site is usually devoid of visitors in the middle of the afternoon.
very beautiful historical site .. like in Bali ..

If you love historical places with a hint of mystery, this should be on the top of your list!
General ticket costs IDR 15.000,-. However, ticket for students is cheaper, only IDR 10.000,-. Visiting this place on weekends won't be a big deal. It is pretty spacious and you will find lots of photo spots (beautifully taken to fit on your Instagram feeds).
One tips, bring your umbrella as it could get pretty hot here. Whew.

Read its history before you visit this place so that you can understand its context with Cirebon history. The caves themselves present mythical appearance or horror visual display.
Tommy Suryaputra — Google review
If it is your first time coming here, you should be taking their tour guide to get better understanding of this historical site significant . Else, you will wonder around without knowing much of each specific "cave" historical story and the "benefits". Recommend to come here before 10am, so you can enjoy the place with minimum sun exposure and humid sunny weather. You can complete the whole tour in less than 2 hours and an activity that you can start after your breakfast by having some walks.

Historical site, cheap entrance, a nice place to visit while you are in Cirebon.
Goa Sunyaragi is a Cirebon's Sultanate heritage. I think it's a religious tourism place, so better use your proper clothes😊
It's quite crowded on the weekend, but there's plenty of instagrammable spot, so don't worry, you'll get some good pics😁

Its a good attraction. I’d recommend to go early in the morning once this place is open. Basically this place has like a complex of cave where you can explore everything. And each cave actually had a dedicated usage. Like there was one cave where it used to be a girls bedroom with a cool window. Definitely a must to go to, if you visit Cirebon. Price ticket is pretty cheap. All around a good experience.

Keraton Kasepuhan is a historical palace built in 1447 and open to the public as a museum. It features stunning old architecture, mostly in white, and offers guided tours with friendly and informative guides who share fascinating stories about its rich history. Although the area is quite large, visitors should allow at least 30-45 minutes to fully appreciate the experience. Unfortunately, some irresponsible tourists have left garbage inside the museum, making it less well-maintained than it could be.
A must-visit place in Cirebon!
I recommend you to visit the museum as well, it's very educative and interesting.
When i visit this palace, there was a worker followed me around, and he offered me to be my personal guide. I accepted him, and he told me the stories and all history about Sultanate of Cirebon. He was very helpful and informative. What an experience, very worth a visit.

The Pekalongan Batik Museum in Central Java, Indonesia is a dedicated space showcasing the traditional art of batik. The museum houses an extensive collection of batik motifs and designs from Pekalongan and its surrounding areas, offering insights into the development of batik from the Dutch era to the influence of Japan during World War II. With over 1,200 pieces on display, visitors can explore the history, evolution, and cultural significance of batik through themed exhibitions.
My favorite Batik Museum.
The visit was taken in 2020.
The museum is located in the center of Pekalongan, so very easy to go there.
The number of batik on exhibition is large, with brief introduction, it would be better if English version introduction could be provided.☺️
Personally I prefer Pekalongan style batik, the colorful floral pattern is an ideal symbol of the tropics, where I love most.
The tour guide will explain the features of batik to visitors if visitors wish, the whole duration is free of charge.
Thanks the kind tour guide lady, because I have been keen to know more about Indonesians’ batik, her assistance was of great help.☺️🙏
Visitors may choose to make a batik by stamping the wax on a piece of white cotton cloth, to experience the procedures of creating a piece of batik.
It is a really wonderful experience, and hope to go to the museum again in the near future.

Since we already bring down all our luggages to the building for check-in and we have 2 elder with us, we asked if they can help us to bring our luggages to other building. They replied we can take it in our car to that building. Ok with no help offered, i decide it is fine to have the room at different floor compared to the trouble moving to next building. Unfortunately, another dissapointment is what i got once i entered the room. Bed is deflated when i sit on it.

New wooden bridge "jembatan Kahyangan" is fully completed to get around the craters. 👍🏻 But the bridge ruins the out of this world scenery 😂
They no longer allow visitors to get too close to the geyser. No more cooking eggs 🥚🥚 in boiling geyser.
They provide some gazebos.
In overall, the new renovation makes this place better.

It's a right place for those who wants to study geology. The view and the Carter are great. You can see the bubble because of the boiling water. Prepare your nose, cause the sulfur's smell so strong.

Crater that pouring out gases and steam from the ground up. Still not sure about the safety of the visitor. It was not clear whether the gas is safe to inhale for a period of time. There should be more safety education around.
The bridges is good enough and there are several gazebos in this site.

The sulphuric pool is unique. Bring a mask or buy one if you want to avoid inhaling the smoke. Didn't see other foreign tourists. As mentioned by other reviews, the exit through the souvenir market is just painful! It was an endless maze for 20-30 min.

Nice place for family trip, the place is quite easy to reach. The way out is a little too lengthy. You need to go around the merchant as you take your way exit.

Dieng plateau very famous for ancient temple and geothermal energy surround the area.
The spring water coming from the craters boiling springs with sulfur burps.
Beautiful landscaping and the best month to visit is around June until August during that time is very cold and even coldest night time until -5 deg c.

Sikidang Crater, nestled in Dieng Plateau, Indonesia, captivates with its steaming fumaroles and vibrant yellow sulfur deposits. This active volcanic site offers a surreal landscape, providing visitors a unique and otherworldly experience. Another great experience that we had in Central Java.

Just so - so.
There are several craters here. To reach the crater point you have to walk through wooden bridge for around 5 minutes. There is also an Arjuna Temple here. Ticket included (one ticket for two destination).
Ticket price : @Rp. 20K (sikidang crater + arjuna tample included).
You can also see the PLTG (electricity power plant - geothermal based) managed by Geo Dipa Energi on the other side.
the drawback of this place is that the exit is very far, you have to go through the food and souvenir market which winds up more than 5 times (it just makes you tired).
Overall, the view is so-so. What I remember the most is a boring and exhausting way out. Honestly, I don't want to come here again, if the exit conditions are still the same.
Syaqoful Fikri — Google review
One of the must-visited place when you're in Dieng. Well-managed, the route through craters are very well maintained, clear signages and great photo spots. Too bad there are still people who throw their trashes around the crater, maybe need to have more trash bins along the paths.

The view is beautiful, it's a bit crowded since I went there on the weekend
I don't really recommend this place for people who has breathing problems or quite sensitive with the scent
And be careful with the smoke of sulfur when the wind blown to you, it's quite difficult to have a fresh oxygen for a moment.

Was hoping this place was big and awesome, but turns out it was small and it's just that. (A bridge surrounding the crater which you pass through). I recommend you to visit Kawah Putih (White Crater) near Bandung. It is much better than this.

Crater at Dieng Plateau!! Shameless plug again but stay with Pak Ratno at “Harumi Dieng” if you are coming!! He has access to a secret location where you get to do a clay mask and eat crater cooked potatos!!!
Very interesting place where you get to see nature and stuff and a non-magma active volcano must come

Great crater but i came in the renovation time and high peak which not really comfortable in terms of track and the path for the car became so narrow because a lot of car parked on side way
Felix Adhitya — Google review
There is 2 entrance to the crater and we enter from the side one, which is less crowd and less stall selling stuff. From there to the crater is nearer, there is proper walkway to walk around the crater. The smoke of Sulphur could be suffering so be ready for it. ticket is rp10,000 and you can just buy on the spot.

A stunning volcanic crater with a beautiful landscape. It's Instagramable. And it's worth the travel.
I wish there was a café inside the area. It's very reasonable for visitors to have a drink or snack while enjoying the view. It'll also boost the place income.

"My trip to Kawah Sikidang was an extraordinary experience, a truly unforgettable moment that provided an exceptional panorama. Kawah Sikidang, located in Central Java, offers spectacular views with hot steam rising from the ground, along with intriguing volcanic rock formations and mud. The sensation of walking around the crater and experiencing the energy of nature was truly awe-inspiring. It is definitely a place worth visiting for nature lovers and geology enthusiasts."

Telaga Warna is a picturesque lake surrounded by dense forest and steep vegetable terraces. The water of the lake displays a variety of colors, ranging from delicate turquoise to rich cobalt blue due to the presence of high sulfur content. A concrete-paved trail encircles both Telaga Warna and its neighboring lake, Telaga Pengilon. Visitors can enjoy their picnic in peaceful seclusion while also taking advantage of opportunities for hiking through the nearby terraces.
Coloured lake or more commonly called Telaga warna is a unique lake due to natural phenomenon that causes the water of the lake to change in fluctuating colors. The color change frequently and naturally, it has high sulfur level that causes the color of it to change.
Sri Kusasi — Google review
It is situated in the Dieng hills. While going here from Yogyakarta, you will be passing on the hilly roads having coffee plantations or farms on either side.
The main attraction here is the lake which show different colors, hence the name 'Telaga Warna' which translates to 'Color Lake' in English.
It was raining when we visited here, so we could not see any different colors really. You should be here on a sunny day to see those. Overall a decent place to visit and the lush greenery makes it more beautiful.

Good place to gdo, spending time to find peace (especially around low season). The area is wrapped around hills and mountains, giving ultimate chill situation. The lake is looking great as how it used to be, they are providing a lot photo spots nowadays, so you can go and enjoy taking pictures here. There's a lot of resting and hangout area, unfortunately when I come here they are in the middle of low season and currently in fasting month, so not all the hangout place are open. The caves that are located within the lake giving me ultimate peace (since no one are visiting), I can hear the sound of nature, it's cold and so calm. I walk around 5 minutes from Batu Tulis, take a leap and back to Batu tulis again. Over all this place is giving you chance to reconnect to nature very well (especially during non-holiday season)!

My expectation about this place is kinda too much maybe, it's definitely a good place but i think the people that responsible for organizing, controlling this place isn't doing theirs. It's a good place to visit. The view is better when we see from the top but is beautiful also when we are going around this place. Just visit.
Farid Khamidan — Google review
Went there in November 2020. 2-hour scenic and continuously-uphill drive from Yogyakarta, is very peaceful. You may open your car windows to enjoy the fresh, cool air instead of the AC. If you are sensitive to the cold, wearing several layers of clothing is recommended as the Dieng Plateau is located above 2000 m above sea-level.
You would likely need to park in a seperate lot near stores and restaurants, a 3-minute walk to the lake. When I went there, I entered using a bundled pass giving access to three tourist attractions in the area, which is not too much more expensive than the single pass.
You will see a beautiful and unique green-colored lake, the color mainly caused by gaseous sulfur exiting from under the ground through the water in the lake. Due to the sulfuric deposits in the area, the air will also be filled by a strong smell which not many people may like. If you are part of this group, I suggest you wear a face mask, but you would need to wear a mask regardless due to the pandemic.

Gunung Sikunir is a verdant peak surrounded by volcanic craters and terraced hills in Indonesia. It offers breathtaking sunrise views from the summit, akin to those of Bromo mountain. The climb to the top can be challenging, but it is worth it for an unforgettable experience. Dieng, also known as Gods abode, is home to this majestic peak which has been described as part of heaven on earth owing to its stunning sunrise views.
Gunung Sikunir is a mountain of enchantment that promises a breathtaking sunrise view. As I embarked on the trek, the crisp mountain air and anticipation of the scenic spectacle ahead kept me energized.
The journey to the summit was an invigorating challenge. The well-marked trails took me through lush forests and open meadows, revealing captivating vistas along the way. The diversity of landscapes made the ascent engaging and rewarding.
Arriving at the summit of Gunung Sikunir just before dawn was a surreal experience. The sight of the first rays of sunlight casting a golden hue upon the rolling hills and distant volcanoes was nothing short of magical.
The iconic "sea of clouds" phenomenon is a sight to behold from Gunung Sikunir. As the mist gently enveloped the valleys below, I felt like I was floating above a dreamlike landscape, lost in the beauty of the moment.
The sunrise spectacle was complemented by the camaraderie of fellow trekkers. The shared experience of witnessing nature's grandeur from the summit created a sense of unity and friendship that made the journey even more meaningful.
In conclusion, Gunung Sikunir is a mountain of dreams that offers an unparalleled sunrise adventure. The trek to its summit is a rewarding challenge that leads to a moment of sheer wonder at nature's beauty. If you're a nature enthusiast or an adventurer at heart, I wholeheartedly recommend conquering Gunung Sikunir. The memories of the sunrise panorama and the bonds formed with fellow trekkers will stay with you long after you descend. Prepare to be inspired and humbled by the magnificence of Gunung Sikunir's summit!

A very interesting and cultural place. If you’d like to visit, I suggest you bring sunglasses or umbrella, because it can be very hot. There are several good spots for photo if you’re a traveller. The entrance ticket is also very affordable. If you like architectural photography, this place is a must visit!

This is our second visit! Unfortunately the ticketing system has changed.we paid 40.000 for two, to find out that’s just an entry to the front only not close up to the actual temple. We still have to pay again to enter the temple. This is not fair seem no one say about anything at the entrance. If they explain up front, we would have choices and we are ok to pay at full price for whole visit. Being honest upfront is best policy, especially when it come to visit a tourism spot

The entrance ticket is also very affordable, but if you want to pray, you have to buy a prayer ticket and you can walk around taking pictures. If you only buy a tourist ticket, you are not allowed to enter the prayer area. The best option is to buy a prayer ticket when you enter the Sam Poo Kong area. The Lawang Sewu Museum is a historic building in Semarang, Indonesia which houses artifacts from the Dutch colonial period. Some believe it to be haunted.
Not spooky at all. In fact, it was quite the opposite. It's basically a historical trip back in time to the colonial era from a train enthusiast perspective. If you want to gain the most experience possible, please do hire a guide there. For only several tens of thousand rupiahs you'll get complete inside knowledge of the place. Careful for the restricted spaces though, they have cameras.

An astonishing historical site. This building complex was established in 1907 as the head office of the Dutch railway company.
It has hundreds of doors, almost a thousand, that's why people call it "lawang sewu", which means thousand doors.
This place is well maintained, despite of its old age. You can find many interesting spots to take pictures there.

The Catholic Dutch architecture buildings with hundreds of doors (which were rounded to thousand = Sewu/Seribu) are obviously the main attraction to this place and it's quite well-preserved by the local govt. They had quite lots of infographics to read from to know more about Lawang Sewu and had many photographs and paintings from old times to view.
You could unironically get a bit lost while exploring, or at least that's what happened to me. There are too many doors to step into and go out from. Not every story/floor is open for visitors, though.
If you're looking for a classic recreational site to visit with family, friends or loved one, this is such a good place. There are a lot of food stalls, coffee place, clothing store and even live music and CFC restaurant to spend time in.
Restrooms were under a fixing process when I visited so it wasn't quite nice. They have a Musholla for muslims to pray as well in case they need it.

Candi Selogriyo, a Hindu temple established on a hill in the 9th century and encompassed by mountains, rice paddies, and woodland. It was reconstructed after being damaged by landslides in 2005 and rebuilt again in 2018. This historical monument is scarcely visited but has an evocative ambiance. The views of the surrounding rice fields are particularly stunning, and it is believed that its fountain water has healing properties capable of bestowing eternal youthfulness.
I tell you, honestly the journey to reach this place is superb.. the way through wide landscape of rice field on hill side will freshen up your mind and makes you wonder how great this world is.. :p
suggestion: rent a motorcycle or by ojek to reach up there.. because only by motorcyle or walking around 30min' to get there. .
i get there by riding motorcycle, it takes upto 15 minutes to reach the nearest parking lot to the top, and continue walking thru several stairs.
even though there's nothing much to see at the spot, but sometimes the best part of travelling is journey not destination.

The road to up is winding and narrow and you have to continue walking from the end road up about 1.5 km. The view however is breathtaking. The temple itself was being reconstructed. Even than the view for me is far more important to see, not to mention friendly natives I met along the walk. I was struggling for the bathroom and one neighbor let me in just like that. Parking is very limited, if possible go with a local driver so you don’t have to worry about parking.

I was amazed by the stunning sceneries along the way to this temple. So green and yet so tranquil. The road for motorbike and pedestrians are well made and maintained. I could not describe more how beautiful this area. And this tiny temple is worth it . On top of the hill ,just if we are lucky enough to enjoy when the sky is clear. Mount Sumbing is the view that we can not miss at all. Parking lot for motorbike is upstair just near to the stairs to the temple but for the car you need to park a little bit far and then you can either walk or take rental bike that costs 25.000 IDR for one way or 40.000 for returns. Toilet is available near by the second gate just before the temple. And it is clean enough. Perfect timing to visit is during dry season ( April to October) or morning when it is not cloudy. I am sure I will be back here to take more pictures.

Selogriyo is about 30 km. away from Borobudur, and journey by car or motorcycle takes about one hour (each way), over paved, winding country lanes.
Walking through the village, you can see the backbreaking work needed to grow the rice and harvest wood etc. Never take your food for granted. I couldn’t even imagine walking up and down those terraces to plant and harvest rice every day.

Finally got the chance to visit and perform subuh pray before going to Solo. Many jamaah visited the mosque even before Subuh
Unfortunately, the cleanliness of the toilet and wudhu spot should be improved a lot. It was really uncomfortable see rubbish everywhere. The floor was slippery so it can be dangerous for people to walk here to have wudhu
There was no cleaning officer there, plus the visitor has no awareness to keep the place clean

The most unforgettable features of this mosque to me are its outdoor arch and the purple color used, maybe the number of mosque I have seen is not large, I guess purple color is rarely used.
After I arrived at the mosque for a while, I heard Adzan from the minaret, it was resonant, I was deeply attracted to stay there to listen to. I even record the voice, when google map supports to upload a video, I will update.
There are 4 pillars looking like umbrellas, the function of them are used as shelters for prayers in rainy days.
The inner side of the mosque is luxuriant, visitors (prayers and non-prayers) are free to come in, I lingered in the mosque for more than 1 hour.
Stephanie Zhang — Google review
The umbrellas were closed even though the day was super bright - cost saving, understood. But the toilet and the place for taking ablution was lacking of fresh air and was wet wet wet.. inside the mosque, as most of mosques I have ever been to in this country, children were running here and there, women talk-siding loudly sometimes giggling, and of course some were taking nap..

Completed in 2006 , the Great Mosque of Central Java in Semarang is the largest and most important mosque in the province, with a capacity to accommodate up to 16,000 worshippers. In addition to the main prayer hall , the mosque complex comprises ablution facilities , an auditorium, and museum, a building for the Islamic cultural office, shops, guest houses, a radio studio and library, as well as an open courtyard with minarets

Jl. Gajah Raya, Sambirejo, Gayamsari, Semarang City, Central Java 50166, Indonesia
Mountainside complex featuring 9 Hindu temples, hiking trails, hot springs & scenic views.
A very interesting place closer to Semarang city. Less than 1.5 hours of drive.
Need to purchase an entry ticket
Local - IDR 15000
Foreigners- IDR 75000
Need to walk and climb some steps to reach each of the temples. There are horse rides available if you want.
There are 5 main temples and some more surrounding temples. Very nice weather with some cold breezes.
On the way to the temples there is a crater. Can feel the sulfur smell. But not difficult to be there.
The entire up and down journey can be completed within 2-3 hours (without not rushing).

Good place for jogging, 4 km around without horse riding. Nice!! Plan to get reguler visit here! May visitors keep the rubbish away.

Beautiful Hindu Temple from 7th Century. Located at elevation 1600 m above the sea level. There are 9 temples why it called Gedong Songo (Nine Building). You can choose to walk or ride horse with rental price IDR 120-150 K for total trip. Beatiful mountain view to be enjoyed with hot spring water on the walkway. For walking will take around 2 hours on climbing hiking road. With horse it take approximately 1 hour.

I suggest you all come in the morning. The weather is nice, and always ride the horses (150k), the horse owner are all nice and take good pictures of you while riding horse. The hiking track quite far but the scenery is rewarding.

If you love ancient history, this place must not be skipped. Hindu temples from 7th Century in the central of Java island. It's cold and freezy here, so using thick clothes or jacket is highly remommended. If you don't want to walk miles away, you can simply ride a horse which you can rent from local people.

Lucky to have visited the 5 Temples referred to as Gedong Songo perched atop Mount Ungaran not far from Semarang city. Reminds one of our South Indian temples. Indonesian authorities should be complemented for preserving and maintaining these monuments.

A cool place to go. You can visit hindu temples from the 900s. Ware your jacket. It can be very cold and windy. In a good weather, you can see Merbabu mountain.

Survived 4km of up and downhill without riding a horse! Very fresh air and great Mount Ungaran view event in a sunny afternoon is totally worth the trip. Like many other tourist spots there are so many peddlers and souvenir sellers at nearby the gate makes the place sometimes overcrowded.

It has beautiful surroundings, fairly carved temples and its wholesome blend into an enigmatic realm. If you are history-lover and an outdoor person, this is just right for you.
Just near Ambarawa, within the Semarang Regency in Central Java, this complex of Hindu temples is called “Candi Gedong Songo” which in English would roughly mean nine big temples. The temples show some architectural relationship with the Dravidian style of temples in southern India, even though Candi Gedong Songgo adopted a more linear and slim type of tectonic construction.
The Gedong Songo temple complex, discovered by Sir Stamford Raffles in 1804, was built during the 9th-century Syailendra Dynasty. Even though supposedly there were nine Hindu temples, according to the name, currently only five are still viewable by visitors.
The complex was originally built during the early period of the Medang Kingdom (Mataram) of Central Java. Similar to the Dieng Temples, Candi Gedong Songo was constructed out of abundant volcanic stones. It is said that the two complexes represent some of the oldest Hindu structures in Java. The Dieng and Gedong Songo temples are among the earliest phases of temple construction activities on Java island, and both predate the Borobudur and Prambanan complexes.
All temples are located at an elevation of 1,200 meters above the ocean level in the valley of Gunung Ungaran (Ungaran Mountain). The air is fresh and the view at Candi Gedong Songo is breathtaking. Candi Gedong Songo uses the square principle, including the vertical direction to maintain construction stability. The cella are cubes (garbhagriya), applied in the multi-storeyed superstructure (vimana, shikhara) to ensure equal distribution of the load. The Candi Gedung Songo and the Dieng temple complex are connected in architectural terms, as a Javanese style to inspire the numerous Hindu and Buddhist-Hindu temples that were thereafter built in central Java.

Visited this Candi Gedong Songo two times (it ja possible to go there again someday). Basically I like this place so much. Place where I can enjoy the nature and do excercise for my legs, since we have to climb from the car parking area to all the temples there.
Last time I go there, at 1st temple, there was a rule that we have to use batik sarong to enter the temple location. They provided the batik sarung, we just give them amount of money (according to our sinverity), put direct into the box that they provided there.
They also provide the horses rent, for visitor who dont want to climb to reach all the temples, fee is depend to negotiation with the horses provider.
If i remember clearly, ticket for the local visitor is 10,000 / visitor (please correct me if im wrong).
There is hot springs with sulfur near by temple 4, complete with the swimming pool.
There is also a lodging in the middle of pine forest there, but this location is quite far away from the city, please prepare all the logistics needed if you plan to stay overnight here.
For touris local and international, please visit Candi Gedong Songo in Semarang, Central Java

Beautiful historical architecture, very worth visiting. I recommend visiting this place early in the morning before the weather is too hot. The view was spectacular and I am impressed with how clean and well maintained the place was. If you are someone who cannot hike or walk for a long time i suggest taking the horse ride tour, otherwise the hike may take about 2 hours to cover all the area. Don’t forget to wear a hat, use sunscreen and drink a lot of water.

Good for hiking. The view is relaxing, the air was refreshing and the only irritating thing is the horse poop. You can ride a horse if you are tired walking.

Jalan Ke Candi Gedong Songo, Candi, Krajan, Banyukuning, Bandungan, Kabupaten Semarang, Jawa Tengah 50614, Indonesia
I'll never travel to Yogyakarta without this trip planner again
The Punthuk Setumbu hill provides a picturesque view of the Borobudur temple and Mt. Merapi during sunrise. It is an affordable alternative to Bukit Barede, which offers a similar view but is more frequented by foreign tourists. The hill is located 4 kilometers away from Bukit Barede and provides stunning views at a lower cost. Visitors can enjoy sweeping mountainous vistas without spending too much money while experiencing the majesty of nature's beauty.
Similar view with Bukit Rhema Gereja Ayam that offers their own uniqueness and scenic view. This place is very high and they recommend going there during sunrise. The place is very well maintain and the road to the top is very, very smooth.

I wanna revisit this place for its beautiful scenery, fresh air and friendly people.
If you plan to climb up here in the afternoon, you'd better bring some snacks and supply enough drinking water because the food stall at the top is already closed. Still, no littering please.
Stay gorgeous, dear Punthuk Setumbu!

Go before sun rise. muslims travellers can pray for Fajr/Subh there as they provide a musolla/praying hut. It is about a 15-20 minute hike uphill and the view is stunning. It is a bit chilly, too. Worth waking up at 3am.
You can also have a light breakfast there with some coffee or tea. There will be some staff that offer you to take your pictures for some cash (if you want to).

The right spot to see a sunrise, this place was align with Borobudur, Pawon and Mendut temple. At the left corner of your sight you can see "gereja ayam". Another tourist attraction in Borobudur. I thing best time to visit is before sunrise, prepare your self with mineral water, exercise shoes or what else makes you convenience because the track uphills with the paving ground.

If you are lucky, it's a nice spot for the sunrise. If it's foggy or rainy you are ... 🪛 Try to avoid the weekend if you are not a "stuck in the crowd" lover. Not to reach by wheel chair and a minimum condition is required. 50000 IDR for foreigners.

Best to get here for the Sunrise and make sure you have a look at the weather forecast. The sunrise can only be seen when its not cloudy or foggy. You need to do small hikes from the parking lot to the top of the mountain (300m away), as its quite steep, recommend you to use proper gear for it. To enter you need to pay Rp 20.000,- for Local and Rp. 50.000,- for Foreigner. You can see sunrise between the mountain with scenery of Gereja Ayam and Borobudur in the distance, quite magnificent.

Beautiful place that is nicely decorated and where you can see a beautiful sunrise with a bit of luck. Be sure to go early enough, there are plenty of nice places where you can stand, sit, lie down, take pictures ...
Wok were there on a rainy day and only got to see passing clouds. So be sure to pay attention to the weather forecast when planning your trips.
We didn't see a sunrise, but it was still a nice trip. From the car park over a paved and steep walking path of 300m long, with occasional stairs, along a deep abyss that is beautifully overgrown, to the top.
Along the way you will see souvenir shows and coffee bars that offer a beautiful view of the densely vegetated valley.

First know this place back on 2017. Still got photos from back then here, I just upload a video from recent visit in 2023.
This place designed for those who respect the the golden hours. It’s very beautiful to watch sunrise here. The area is quite spacious, but I still recommend you to standby from 5am since mostly the area will be crowded with many tourist.
To arrive at this place you will need to walking around 300 meters from the parking lot, and it’s on the mountain, so that 300 meters means you are climbing up. No worries since the access is smooth.
Parking lot for car and motorcycle are available, and the entry ticket cost are affordable.
There are some area you can use to take a photos with beautiful scenery. It’s a bit tiresome to hike this hill, but I 100% agree that it is worth it.

The Museum Kereta Api Ambarawa is a rail museum located in a historic 1873 station. Visitors can view old locomotives on display and explore nearby attractions including the Museum Kereta which showcases 23 ornate carriages used by the Sultan, Taman Sari - a former swimming and bathing complex for the Sultan, and Masjid Gede Kauman - Yogyakarta's equivalent of Westminster Abbey.
Compared to the previous years ago, this place became neat and clean in terms of ticket purchase, the hall, toilet, and the park itself. Almost have not seen the plastic trash in the area which is good because the management cares about it!
The parking space is big enough. Provided the washbasins before we enter the place and check the body temperature also check-in for Peduli Lindungi.
Unfortunately, I didn't get the train ticket because I was there when the weekend so, I only bought the mini train to go around the museum.
Don't forget to buy the local seller goods there either its food and beverages or product like train miniature from wood.

Its charming location sets the stage for an immersive journey through the history of locomotives.
The museum boasts a comprehensive collection that spans the ages, showcasing the evolution of railway technology with impressive detail.
For those seeking adventure, the museum offers a delightful railway tour experience, allowing passengers to soak in breathtaking views at a reasonable price of 100,000 per person (as of April 2024).
While most exhibits are meticulously maintained, a few could benefit from a bit more care and attention.
To refuel after exploring, visitors can grab refreshments at the conveniently located stalls offering a variety of drinks and snacks.
In summary, the Railway Museum is a delightful destination for history buffs and casual visitors alike, offering a blend of nostalgia, education, and relaxation.

Borobudur Temple, a significant cultural site in Indonesia, is the world's largest Buddhist temple dating back to the 8th and 9th century. Constructed using over two million stone blocks, this symmetrical stupa stands tall around a hill within an area of manicured lawns surrounded by tropical hardwoods. The intricate carving on its stones makes it an enigmatic sight at dawn and dusk, and worth paying extra for entry.
We experienced a sunrise from the temple, what an amazing experience besides from such a historic place🙏. The journey to the top fills one with awe. The detailed carvings displaying the Buddhist journey is amazing. Wow, what a great experience. Lots of additional activities to do and a restaurant available to offer food and drinks. 👍
Cheryl Weston — Google review
This was a much anticipated trip, I had seen many previous videos and pictures.
There are many comments about the entry price being vastly different for International visitors, 375K IDR compared to domestic visitors who pay 50K.
I can understand why the difference exists, but it seems rather steep to me.
The biggest disappointment for me was that you are no longer allowed to enter the temple. The access points are now sealed off.
Again I can understand why, but for myself, it did take some of the pleasure away.
The famous bell towers can only really be seen from a distance and in my opinion can't be appreciated in the same way.
The site possesses the longest exit route I have ever experienced! You walk though a labyrinth of alleys lined with literally hundreds of gift stalls. As previously mentioned, I can totally understand why this is so.
All that said; it is a world heritage site and well worth a visit. The perimeter is open and you can walk around all 4 sides of this vast and impressive temple.
As I walked away from the area, I had mixed feelings: I couldn't help feeling a little disappointed by the 3 aforementioned aspects but thoroughly impressed by the wonderful architecture.

Candi Borobudur in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, is a breathtaking masterpiece of ancient architecture. The intricate carvings and serene backdrop create a truly captivating experience. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site that showcases the grandeur of the past.
Exploring the temple's grounds reveals the rich symbolism and intricate carvings that adorn its walls. The attention to detail and craftsmanship are remarkable, showcasing the incredible skill of the ancient builders. The peaceful ambiance surrounding the temple is incredibly serene and conducive to contemplation.
I highly recommend visiting Candi Borobudur for a unique and enriching experience. While access to the temple's upper levels may be limited, the lower levels still provide a glimpse into its magnificence. The sheer scale and spiritual significance of Candi Borobudur make it a must-see destination. It's a place that will leave you in awe and offer a profound connection to history and spirituality.

A majestic temple complex. Opening time 8.30 for the groups (with guide). No sunrise tours at 4 /5/6 am anymore. Purchased tickets online a week in advance. A tour with guide last 1 hour plus (inside the temple, climbed all the way up). Only about 1200 tourists allowed daily. Lots of souvenirs shops around, cafes etc.

Requiring a guide limited the experience for me. Requiring unsafe sandals that allowed my feet to get sun burned was a drawback to the experience. Recommend taking socks that you can wear with the required sandals that you have to buy with the tickets. We chose not to pay extra for a guide that could speak English. We thought we could explore at our own pace, but we had to stay with our guide. It was really hot at 10:00 a.m. and the guide had us standing in the sun multiple times getting baked. Our group had 15 people, which was too many for one group. It would probably be worth it to find a way to pay extra for a smaller group of your own party to go at your own pace. You definitely should walk up the steps to the top.

Truly a magnificent landmark. Not only value its historical moment, also spiritual too. The last time I visited, it was sprinkling (not raining) and I strongly felt it was a blessing from the Buddhas to keep myself a little bit dry. The written wall of the temple is still safely kept until now, which is serving its important messages to us. However, after you done strolling around the temple, please do not forget to visit the cafe. The service is very friendly and the prices aren’t expensive at all.

The temple itself is very nice, and it worth a visit if you’re in the area of course, given its cultural significance as the largest Buddhist monument on earth. I will say the price was quite steep however for what you receive. It was approx 500000 per person if you want to walk through the temple grounds, and this entitles you to go onto the temple but only with a guide, and you only have one hour. Because of this, a lot of the panelling work and areas are missed off the tour, and they seem to drag you only to where people will want to have photos of themselves taken. I’d have preferred to not have a guide at all had I known what I was paying for was a time limited tour of one corridor and the roof area, but unfortunately you are not allowed to access the temple without the guide.

Beautiful temple, but nowhere near as large & impressive as is made out. Tickets are expensive- for foreign tourists at least. Visit on weekdays & not dawn and you will avoid the crowds. On exiting the complex, try to avoid the maze of trinket stalls that go on for ever.

It's a must visit place in Yogyakarta. Its one of the famous Buddhist monuments in the world, built between 8th and 9th Century. The best way to visit the temple is to take a guided tour. The temple itself is lovely and the gardens are beautiful, however the ticket price is outrageous. It’s not worth the money. I don’t understand why foreigners pay more, it’s a little unfair. Very beautiful. Although the two separate entry points aren’t being made clear to tourists. There is the general admission where you can explore the grounds, including AROUND the temple, then there’s the separate admission (with a schedule on a first come first serve basis) where you can walk ON the steps of the temple and whatnot.
However, I love the museum. It has a lot of great displays with the descriptions available both in Indonesian and English.

Loved this place. Foreigners have to pay a lot more than locals. But they use the extra money for restoration and maintenance. They only allow 150 per hour into the temple and you have to have a guide. Got a ticket and only had to wait about 30-45 minutes for the next tour group. They give you special sandals to protect the temple and then you get them as a souvenir. We had an amazing guide that is very knowledgeable about the temple and it history.
The tour lasted about 40 minutes and we still had 20 minutes left for our tour. So we were able to walk around, relax and check out the temple at our own pace.
Took an overpriced shuttle from Yogyakarta then shared a taxi coming back.

The Borobudur Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is undeniably a must-visit destination that seamlessly blends history, spirituality, and architectural grandeur.
Stepping into this ancient monument is like taking a journey back in time, surrounded by the intricate carvings and majestic stupas that tell the tales of a bygone era. The serene ambiance, especially during sunrise or sunset, adds a mystical touch to the experience, making it a pilgrimage for both locals and tourists alike.
While the historical and spiritual significance of Borobudur is awe-inspiring, I couldn’t help but notice a few areas that could enhance the overall visitor experience. The vast green expanse surrounding the temple, while charming, could benefit from a bit of grooming. A well-maintained lawn would not only add to the aesthetic appeal but also provide a comfortable spot for visitors to relax and soak in the atmosphere.
Additionally, the introduction of more public seating areas could be a thoughtful improvement. Considering the number of visitors exploring the temple grounds, having strategically placed benches would offer a welcomed respite for tired feet and an opportunity to contemplate the marvels of Borobudur.
In conclusion, Borobudur Temple is a cultural gem that has withstood the test of time. Its grandeur and historical significance are undeniable. With a few enhancements to the surrounding greenery and the addition of more seating areas, the experience for visitors could be even more delightful. This is a place where the past meets the present, and with a little care, it could continue to be a timeless destination for generations to come.

My 3rd times here. This time visited with the kids. Will be a memorable time and such a great opportunity to see and learn one of world’s seven wonders. The area was very clean with some updated facilities like electric bus, golf cart to touring around temple area. The toilet was also clean. Hopefully get better with more attractions and facilities in the future.

Who doesn't know Borobudur Temple, its fame is very well known throughout the world. Want to share experiences when visiting here.
Before you come, it's best to buy tickets online so you don't have to queue for a long time. My advice is to buy a ticket with a package entry to the temple, it's more expensive than one with access to the grounds, but it's more satisfying if you buy a package to go up to the temple because we get a guide and are also given special sandals. to go up to the top of the temple
If you want to come here, don't forget to bring an umbrella, hat, drinking water and don't forget to use sunblock because it's really hot up there.
Lastly, if you want to buy souvenirs, after coming down from the temple, buy souvenirs in the area near the exit because it is cheaper.
That's all the review, basically this Borobudur temple is really recommended to visit.

Borobudur temple is super great! I feel honored I have the opportunity to come back here and climb to (almost) the top. I’ve been here when I was little but it felt different. Now it is more organized (yes they charged a more expensive ticket) and clean. You get the upanat sandals (included in ticket price). And there’s a tour guide lead your group and told you the history. Don’t forget to buy tickets in advance through the official website.
The negative thing is the exit is way too complicated, you need to go through hundreds of local stalls with sellers forcing you to buy souvenirs. Not a fun experience at all.

Standing firmly as one of the 7 Wonders of the World, Borobudur was constructed between about 778 and 850 CE, under the Shailendra dynasty (UNESCO). Built as a Buddhist temple in Center Java Island, Indonesia at that period of time, nowadays, it's the only ancient Buddhist temple in the land of Islamic Indonesia.
I was thrilled to witness this magnificent antique structures and walk on her as one of the true Buddhist devotee (I walked 3 rounds clockwise on the top 2nd platform with clear mind - believe it can bring my wishes come true). It is hot, so make sure you have sunscreen and a head cover. I spent 3 days exploring the temple while staying in Manohara Resort in Borobudur Temple compound! We got the entrance ticket included in our stay with Manohara Resort, that also includes a special foot wear to walk within Borobudur site (as shown in the photo).
3 different exploration days (1st. Day overture to get the overall story, fun and fact about the temple; 2nd. Day I brought in a lot more details on the cravings and the Buddha status in the temple; 3rd. Day rainy afternoon with a complete different look on Borobudur completion, fresh and colorful in my eyes). 3 different perspectives and feelings that Borobudur Temple give!
Make the way to this magnificent site!

Everything is good and neatly arranged, only after we have finished admiring it, when we get to the exit, we have to go through a maze of selling stalls (and these stalls should also be attractively designed) which is quite tiring. Maybe there should also be some kind of cafe and/or restaurant that is nice and clean so that visitors can hang out there.

So so experience. The candi itself was impressive. Being such an impressive historical monument, this candi is a tourist magnet for locals and foreigners alike. It’s like a must for tourists to visit. The management of this candi knows it very well thus even with a very steep price to visit inside the candi (not only on the court yard or “pelataran” in indonesia word, many foreigners are “willing” to pay such an exorbitant price. With this such a high price, foreigners tourist have a high expectations about the whole experience but sadly this was not met.
We visited candi borobudur on 31 mar 2024 and entry time was 10.30 am and we got a group nb 20. There were 25 people in the group-many more than the max of 15 people. The tour guide was not sympathetic at all and his knowledge about borobudur was below expectation. The storytelling skill was not good enough to be a guide in such an impressive candi. Apart from the subpar tour guide, we were given only 1 hour to visit the temple, it’s not enough at all. At the min the management of candi needs to give tourists at least 2 hours as we wanna to see and admire more details on the relics and stupa. Everything was a rush. The tour guide rushed us to move from one point to another point and to exit the temple (the tour guide needs to make sure that all his groups to be scanned in exit gate). This one hour experience inside the temple was not what we expected. It took 1.5 hours from Yogja to the temple, queue in getting our ticket scanned, queue to have our tour start and we were about to admire the history and the beauty of the candi, times up, let alone to take some photos.
The bottom line it’s a disappointing experience. Hopefully the borobudur management team will listen and make improvements.
Ps: compare with prambanan temple, we preferred prambanan experience. More genuine and original experience.

Pawon Temple, a rectangular temple constructed from mountain rocks and adorned with intricate reliefs, is situated between Borobudur and Mendut Temple. Despite being small in size, it boasts of a pyramidal roof that resembles the style of Mendut Temple. It has been speculated to have served as either the burial site of Sailendra king Indra or as a ceremonial gateway to Borobudur.
Small, yet beautiful mosque. This mosque was the smallest one in the area if we compare it with Borobudur and Mendut. The main room are empty. But in my opinion, the main attraction of this temple is the kalpataru with kinara and kinari relief at the back wall. It also the less crowded one in Borobudur so it might be a good idea to take a short stop here.

Very basic Temple in the local community. Gives you a good idea of the smaller scale temple dotted all over the region during that period. Now the area has changed to Islam faith. Historically the place was Hindu Buddhist. All depends on the rulers of the time. Still the locals are very peaceful and friendly.

Gunungkidul is renowned for its stunning beaches, and one that stands out is Baron Beach. Baron Beach is distinctive for its combination of coastal beauty and cultural richness. What makes Baron Beach truly unique is the juxtaposition of the turquoise sea against the rugged limestone hills, creating a breathtaking panorama.
The beach offers more than just a typical seaside experience. Visitors have the opportunity to explore the local fishing culture, as Baron Beach is home to a traditional fisherman's village. Watching the colorful boats dotting the shore and witnessing the daily routines of the local fishermen adds a cultural dimension to the visit.
Moreover, Baron Beach is part of a series of interconnected beaches, each with its own charm. Kukup Beach and Krakal Beach are nearby, providing a diverse range of landscapes. The natural caves and cliffs surrounding the area contribute to the overall allure, making it a paradise for both nature enthusiasts and adventure seekers.
Visitors can engage in various water activities, such as snorkeling and swimming in the clear waters, or simply relax on the sandy shores and soak in the tropical ambiance. The beach also has several warungs (local eateries) where visitors can savor fresh seafood and other local delicacies.
In essence, Baron Beach in Gunungkidul is not just a coastal retreat; it's a harmonious blend of natural beauty, cultural authenticity, and recreational opportunities. The unique landscape, coupled with the vibrant local culture, makes it a must-visit destination for those seeking a distinctive beach experience in Indonesia.

As if in tandem. After Borobudur Temple, you will be brought over Pawon temple by your guide. Pawon Temple. A small temple in an open, like garden setting, space and within like, maybe 5 minutes, it will be time-out. On your way out, those traders? They are adamant in closing sales with you and they will make sure you run after you. Buy if you feel.

Do you know how excited I was when I arrived here. Like finally after ages I cud reach and see the temple. I never expected that it's literally surrounded by resident houses.
So you have to start from Mendut first cause the ticket was set with Pawon. And it was cheap like around Rp 10.500 only for local adults. And way cheaper for the local kids. And it's used for visiting 2 temples altogether. Imagine how cheap. 🥺
Afterall, this temple is worth to visit. Enjoy the beauty and the artistic relief of the temple. You'll be amazed. ❤

Mendut Buddhist Monastery is a small temple located 3.5km to the east of Borobudur, Java. Though it may appear unimportant compared to its grand neighbor, it holds an exceptional statue of Buddha in its original setting, flanked by Bodhisattvas Lokesvara and Vairapana. The Buddha's posture is noteworthy as he sits Western-style with both feet on the ground.
Very nice place. A lot of green field and some big trees. The candi is big and awesome. The overall place is clean and neat.
There are plenty of parking space. So don't worry if you bring your own car or motorcycle. I saw some merchandise shops around with fair price.

Before going to Borobudur, this temple is the first temple to be seen. It is a triad of Buddhist temples namely Borobudur, Pawon, and Mendut.
I don't get into the temple but to the monastery. The place is quiet, neat, and clean. If you want to pray, then go ahead.
Lots of photo spots, but, always remember even though this is can be said as a ‘tourist attraction’ but please be polite and follow the regulations there.

High-altitude lookout with views of volcanoes Mount Merapi & Mount Merbabu, plus a restaurant.

This place can be reached from Magelang & Semarang via Kopeng street. The path has many uphill roads, so make sure your vehicle is in good condition.
There are also those who offer trips by jeep.

First time visiting and first impression was so so only. They charge foreigners Rp50k per person and you get one free soft drink. There is a volcano museum but looks pretty run down. Was told can view volcano documentary in the in-house theatre bit it was closed when I visited. What a let down. So the only saving grace was the observation platform at the hill top overlooking the villages. Too bad it was cloudy and misty so did not get to see much of the mountain view.

Our trip here was super impromptu but that's alright. They have a lot of posters and displays related to Mount Merapi but to be honest, they feel a bit outdated. They have a café corner that only sells cup noodles and some packaged drinks. And then on top there's also a restaurant with plenty of seats but when we got there at about 9 or 10 AM, not many menus were ready. Not many things to do to be honest but the view is great! You can eat at a Warmindo on the parking lot instead 😅

The Ullen Sentalu Museum, located in Sleman, Yogyakarta, is a privately-owned museum established by the Haryono family in 1994. Managed by the Ulating Blencong Foundation, the museum houses various relics and artifacts from royal Javanese houses that reveal the history of Mataram Kingdom and reflect Hindu-Buddhist culture.
We were having an absolute blast visiting this museum! If you love history, you will love this place. SUPER RECOMMENDED!
Our guide for the day was Ms Juni, she is very good at explaining all the different things, and she brings good vibes. They should give her a raise haha 😉 😅
There are 2 kinds of tour. One was IDR 50k, the other was 100k. We went with the 100k tour. Our tour was about 40 to 60 minutes. The tour was about the Javanese Mataram history and culture and its ties with Chinese and Dutch culture. We also were given cookies and coffee and tea. Can't take pictures inside the museum. But don't be afraid, there will be a spot for a good photo session outside at the end of the tour. All and all we spent 2 hours at the place.
The place was super large. You have to walk all the way because there were so many stairs. Not so disability-friendly.

A very nice place to visit for historical learning purposes. The guide was very kind and informative throughout the 45 mins tour. But I didn’t expect the place to be only like that. We have two options for the tour with different prices, 50k or 100k. For me, it’s a little bit pricey to pay with such price only to see bunch of paintings and some traditional cloth for local tourists. It’s also prohibited to bring your camera, so we don’t really have any merchandise to bring as a gift.

Ullen Sentalu is located on a high land kilometres away from the center of Yogya City. I can say it is similar to the concept of Selasar Sunaryo or Wot Batu in Bandung which have a lot of similarities. The design of the building is really beautiful. Me and my friends took the 50k museum tour to know more about the Yogya's batik and story. The tour guide explain it nicely though I feel more excited about the ambience and the building and the weather than the tour actually.
We arrived here by using online transport and we had a bit of trouble to get online transport to go back to the city. So please make sure to rent a car to or your own vehicle to get here. Overall it is a nice place to getaway from the city hustle and a perfect place for a group of introverts to visit.

The territory of the museum is very beautiful, HOWEVER the exposition is strange: after a hall with local music instruments the guide took us to a picture with a family tree of the local noble family (who’ve founded this museum, as we understand). Then it was a hall with the photos of all that people, then another hall with reprinted letters to a lady from this family. That’s pretty much all.
No local sculpture, or wood curving, or any other art & craft artifacts or pieces of historical heritage (with I honestly expected to see after going through photos on Google Maps). The thing is — it’s not allowed to take shots inside, so all you can see on the tourists photos here — those are the decoration of the territory.
There were some other facilities around, but our guide won’t take us in, though we saw people exploring those parts of the museum.
I would say it was rather disappointing experience, however (once again) — the territory of the museum is beautiful!
You may consider visiting this place if you’re deeply interested in family of Yogyakartas’ governors, otherwise I couldn’t recommend the museum.

Speaking off the entrance fee is 50K and 100K depending on the route you will take, i did take the 50K and its about 50min tour with a coffe break... is it worth? Considering that u CAN NOT take the picture inside while tour and the things that you will see in the museum.. i would say its quite expensive, but i gain some knowledge and to preserve the culture so its okay, the museum is beautiful and really good atmosphere so i quite enjoy to spend my time here.

the atmosphere is quite interesting you will be invited to walk through the hallway and move house by house, and in my opinion it is quite good. The positioning of the stories is really quite good, you will be presented with the colonial period of the kingdom of Jogja and Islamic Mataram, as well as the collections in the kingdom.
For 50K per person I think it was worth it, because the brother I invited got inspired in making his batik.

I don’t have intention to go to the museum just went to the restaurant. It’s all fine, everything is good and chill.

Our visit to Museum Ullen Sentalu was a genuinely interesting experience. We opted for the guided Mataram tour, which was an eye-opener about the royal family of Yogyakarta. Our guide was not only friendly but incredibly knowledgeable, making the history come alive. A pleasant surprise was that our tour turned out to be private, adding a personal touch to the experience. However, it's worth noting that photography isn't allowed inside, and there aren't many interactive exhibits – something for the tech-savvy visitors to keep in mind. great information, not great upkeep (hard when the entrance free is only 5k). worth a stop if in the area. solid displays/exhibits about volcanic/geological fundamentals, detailed history of Merapi and Indonesian volcanoes in general. whole thing takes about 20 minutes. plenty of parking and good quality roads to get there. bathrooms have no toilet paper.

High recommended for museum tour. All about of Geology and Volcano education. The Merapi cinema was amazing, creative, great and cool... Recommended for kids, stundents, parents etc. The price is very cheap, only 5000 rupiah but worth it!

I lost my tolerance for Indonesian authorities.
They don't respext tourist and tourism, they even didn't spend a minute to check google status.

A very affordable and nice museum, some of the description doesn't have a translation near it though. And it's quite scary, i got goosebumps.

A modern educational museum on Mt. Merapi and volcanology in Banteng, Hargobinangun, Pakem District, Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region. It offers a cool air, a direct distant view to Mt. Merapi, computerized audiovisual presentations, a detailed 3D (pre-2010 eruption) physical model of Mt. Merapi, educational games and a movie theater about Mt. Merapi. Some simple food stalls can be found outside. Vast parking lots for motorbikes, cars and buses. Clean toilets and musholla (moslem prayer place). Not so far from the World Landmarks Merapi Park and Kaliurang mountainside resort. There are many budget inns nearby.

This is educative for children's. I like it very much.
This impressive museum is located in a striking angular structure that resembles a volcano. Exhibits dedicated to Merapi include a scale model, which demonstrates eruptions from the 18th century until today and how they altered the mountain's shape. There are vintage seismometers on display, along with a motorbike excavated from molten ash. There's an earthquake simulator, a cinema screening the story of the 2010 eruption (10,000Rp) and profiles covering volcanoes of Indonesia and the world.

Entrance fee is 10,000rp for foreigners. Not a expensive museum and quite interesting but it’s really a shame that it’s not well maintained. On the ground floor some panel with lights are not working anymore. On the second floor you can see that there are a lot of leaking in the rooftop and humidity already started damaging the walls.

The shape of the building is iconic. The museum is very educative. I spent more than an hour here just to explore the museum and read every caption. The installations are very interesting and some of them are interactive. They have some relicts from 2010's eruption of Mt. Merapi. This place is very recommended to you who visit Jogja, especially for students.

Merapi Volcano Museum is a great exposition of the importance and the impact of Mt. Merapi to Yogyakarta! It has all the interactive modules and rooms that will provide you the right and essential information to understand how Yogyakarta, and Indonesia, responds and treats disasters.
From videos, to sculptures, and eveb mythologies, the museum offers it all. Perhaps my most favorite part is the central model in the lobby of the mountain itself. The rock samples were also fascinating. To make the experience more impactful, get a tour guide and if you are lucky, get a geologist friend who speaks the language.
Unfortunately, parts of the museum show disrepair. Mold has creeped into the fiberboard ceiling and some part have decated already. They also need to update their toilets. Although they have a souvenir shop, it is better if it can have its own store so it is more noticeable. I really hope they have future plans to renovate and modernise the facility! We don't want another eruption for them to revive their drive for risk education and communication!

Cultural & exhibition center on a 16-acre, 19th century sugar factory site with a café & museum.
The museum definitely worth to visit if you are interested in history, sugar or anything sweet. But for 35k it might not be a multiple visitation friendly. The exterior however is more interesting to photo and the entrance fee is fractional.

De Tjolomadoe offers a captivating journey through the rich history of one of the world's foremost sugar suppliers, the Colomadu Sugar Company. Stepping into this museum feels like stepping back in time to the bustling era of the 19th century sugar industry. The augmented reality section is a standout feature, seamlessly blending education and entertainment as it guides visitors through the intricate process of sugarcane cultivation, growth, and harvest.
The real highlight, however, lies in the meticulously preserved old steam machine components. These relics from the past not only tell the story of technological innovation but also allow visitors to experience firsthand the sights, sounds, and even the vibrations of the sugar production process as it would have been in its heyday.
Whether you're a history enthusiast, a technology aficionado, or simply curious about the origins of one of the world's most ubiquitous commodities, De Tjolomadoe offers an immersive and enlightening experience that is not to be missed. It's a museum that not only honors the past but also sparks curiosity and appreciation for the ingenuity and labor that shaped the world we know today.

An Ex-Sugar mill company, now it is a museum. You can get much information about how the sugar industries runs in the dutch colonization era. If you don't want to enter the museum, you can jog on the outside, there is plenty open area available. Entrance ticket to the area is 2k, entrance ticket to the museum is 35k. The building is very classic dutch colonization era, great place to take beautiful photos.

Good restoration from the old sugar mill to historical museum for education. Although there are still plenty of empty space to be developed into interesting exhibits and lack of visitors route signage considering the vast exhibition area.

Good for kids. Clean space and modern gallery. You will not remember any of the sugar factory at all. They paint the machine. Redo the floor. It's far from scary...
Also good for profile picture shoots

The place is enormous. You can easily spot it by the building that has tall chimney and big walls. Firstly, if you plan to go there, you need to pay Rp. 2000/person + parking fee (depends on time and vehicle you use). And if you want to go inside the building, you should pay ticket Rp. 35.000 (adult) and 25.000 (kid >12 y/o) each. The parking lot itself are big; it can amount hundreds of cars and/or buses + thousands of motorcycles at once. The main attraction of this place is museum which will provide you the history of Sugar Factory of Tjolomadoe (Colomadu) and its info graphic + photos of it in the past. The museum itself also has cafe in it that can amount hundred of people at once.

Really nice renovation of what used to be a sugar factory. You can learn about the history of sugar trade. They have a hall inside for events.

I came here on public holiday and ticket fee for adults is 40K rupiah and 30K for children. You have to walk a bit far from parking area to ticket booth. You can also get explanation from the guide who will tell you the whole history of De Tjolomadoe. I didnt have enough time to explore other areas but i hope i could get back here again on another occassion.

Tjolomadoe in Karanganyar, Central Java, used to be a sugar factory, but now it's a cool cultural park. You can learn about Central Java's history, see events, and try yummy food. It's a fun place that mixes old stories with new stuff, making it a neat spot for anyone curious about history and culture

Nicely restored former sugar factory where you can see the century old giant machinery. While it is restored nicely but it loses a bit of the gist on how it actually were - maybe there were too many things that couldn't be restored and not worth to reconstruct. Only the diorama / model gives a hint on how the factory works. Inside there is a cozy cafe/eatery which I didn't try.

It was a sugar factory built a long time ago. The name colomadu means mountain of honey. Such a good name for a sugar factory. Now it is open for a museum. But you need to buy a ticket to enter the museum, which is not cheap. There was caffee and eatery but it was closed maybe because there are fewer visitors nowadays. I didn't enter the museum because it seems it isn't interesting at all.
