Jersey Zoo, previously known as Durrell Wildlife Park, is the first zoo in the world that is solely dedicated to conservation projects. Founded by naturalist Gerald Durrell in 1959, it is part of a larger conservation effort that reinvests profits back into the field. The aim of this park is to conserve and breed endangered species and reintroduce them into their natural habitats while also training future conservationists.
Amazing place and their conservation initiatives are doing fab stuff. The zoo is well spaced out and the enclosures are really well proportioned. Definitely worth a trip.

Had a fabulous breakfast at the café before entering the zoo.
Helped that it was a lovely sunny day, if a little chilly.
Everyone of the staff were very friendly & informative.
Could have happily stayed all day
Heather Ridley — Google review
It's a lovely zoo, and has been for a long time. Although you won't find larger animals like hippos, rhinos, elephants, giraffes etc, there are loads of equally fascinating animals to learn about and observe.
The atmosphere is more natural than any other zoo I've been to, and it's just a really good way to spend a day with family.
Prices are fairly high to get in, and food inside is also fairly expensive but the quality is very good. We didn't feel that we were being overcharged for what we had.
Highly recommended for families as a fun and memorable day out.

Excellent family day spent at Jersey zoo.
Fantastic exhibits and wonderful enclosures allowing you to view the animals in natural environments.
Rachel Hills — Google review
Absolutely fantastic place! Not too big, not too small. Very focussed on conservation and health of their animals. Food in the cafe is fantastic, tasty and lots of choice. Best day out we’ve had in Jersey.
Vikki W — Google review
Amazing selection of animals and very nice surroundings. The talk by the bat keepers was a highlight and would recommend it to others. Been to lots of zoos and it was nice seeing some unusual and less-common animals like the fruit bats! A great day out - can easily fill a whole day.
Daniel Bradley — Google review
Wonderful place to visit, marvellous conservation projects- you MUST visit the Bat House. My only criticism is the signage around the park, which is "aspirational" rather than accurate and occasionally missing all together. We missed one talk because it was unsigned and had to ask about another. Please fix this for a truly great experience.
Andy Lester — Google review
I haven’t visited the zoo in years and was really impressed with the whole place. Lots of new additions and I thought it was £18 really well spent. Fantastic-well done and I will come back. I especially liked the Butterfly tunnel

Amazing zoo unfortunately I got there in wrong season and weather like lots animals were hiding due cold and rain. Some of part are in reconstruction but It is what is it. But all over beautiful zoo with amazing experience like sloth so close they could do same with more animals like lemurs
Marek Bohun — Google review
If your feeling fit and love animals Jersey zoo is great. The main entrance has the usual toys, café etc and then your in.A lot of meandering pathways going in all directions leads you to somewhere special.A good variety of animals, all shapes and sizes are here. Don't expect to see tigers and elephants though.Monkeys , orangutans, birds and reptiles seem to be the thing. A lot of openness and decking lead you closer into the animals enclosure and the sparsity of animals mean you have to really look for them.I think maybe a free map of the zoo would help.Obviously a sunny day helps too but you do have a couple of great cafes serving food and drink for you to take shade .You certainly know youve walked around the place by the end of the day.
Michael Soanes — Google review
Well worth a visit, this is a well run Zoo and conservation program. Easy to reach via the local bus service, you also get a look round the island. Highly recommended.

A great day out, even if the weather is not perfect. Lots of interesting animals to observe, most with positively sized enclosures.

Fabulous time at Jersey Zoo. It is set out very well and easily accessed by bus from St Helier.
The gorillas and orangutans were a treat to just sit and watch them. Butterfly House and turtles were amongst some unusual creatures we've not seen before. Very educational conservation zoo with helpful volunteers at hand to answer any questions in addition to timed talks throughout the day.
karen pickford — Google review
First visit here, went with wife and 6 year old son.
Had a great time, spent around 5 hours here. Loads of animals. For us the gorilla's and orangutans were amazing. Loved the bufferfly house and other small monkeys. Was amazed we spent so long here.
There are 2 cafes although we took our own picnic. Loads of benches dotted around to use.
Overall lots to see and do and would recommend.
David Littlecott — Google review
Absolutely loved this zoo. It is well thought out and carefully designed to make the most of existing resources while producing an environment that attempts to provide the essential elements of an animal's original environment. If your future is to be a zoo animal you would want this to be your zoo. The animals look healthy and well cared for. There is an emphasis on animals from places such as Mauritius, Madagascar and Asia so don't be disappointed that you will not see zebra, giraffes, elephants or lions. But they do have gorillas and various monkeys that you do not see in most places. And many critically endangered critters for which they are running breeding programs. Humans are also well catered for being able to see animals well. There is a reason that this is one of Jersey's top attractions. My partner is a zoo addict so we have seen a few zoos. This one is world class and in my top 3. Well done!
Donna Schakelaar — Google review
The most perfect place. We come here every year and it just gets better. Especially now they have sloths and the butterfly house.
Nathan Howe — Google review
Phenomenal!
Not like other zoo's as such, this has a much more let's look after the animals than just look at the animals. This makes the whole nature of the visit much more pleasurable and it's always good to learn how we can look after them. They whole place is such a beautiful setting with flora and fauna to suit, it all has that relaxed Jersey vibe. Only went with staying a few hours in mind but arrived at 10:30 and didn't leave till closing.
Loved it! Now my favourite zoo
Frazer Nash — Google review
I rarely visit zoos as we prefer seeing animals in their natural environment. But this zoo is like no other - the founder Gerald Durrell has housed rare species that you cannot see in the other zoos. We saw capybara, golden poison frogs, orang-utans, gibbons, tamarins, sloths, rare birds, big butterflies, a gorilla, gelada. Be sure to visit the venue during the feeding time for a chance to see the animals more active (see photo attached). Entrance fee is £19.00, no need to book in advance.

Visited on a Saturday and loved it. Incredible story behind the Zoo. Plenty to see and do. Cafeteria was lovely and had great choices in food and drinks. £12 entrance fee per adult. Didn’t rain so had plenty of time to stroll around. Bat smell was overwhelming so skipped them. Amazing place with great staff.
Tony Sweeney — Google review
Visited on a warm & sunny day - perhaps too warm for some of the larger animals, who tended to stay indoors resting. The rest still good to visit. The cafe is OK but during our visit, too many young children (under school age) running about in and around the play area uncontrolled, screaming for no good reason, as none were in danger but seemingly the parents or guardians impervious to the noisy disturbances. Best to go later in the day.

I am a fan of Darrell for over two decades, so yes, I loved it.
Small, inhabited island with 11th-century, Romanesque abbey & the highest tides in Europe.
A must visit place. I recommend the guided tour with 11 Euro, but you need to reserve it through their official website. Otherwise, you can also reserve an audio-guided ticket or just buy it from the ticket office at the entrance . Also, it worth to stay at one of the hotels at the Saint Michel area. The area is very quiet and peaceful. The main attraction is old Abbey at the top of mountain. So, there will be a lot of stairs to walk.

What wonderful & magical place to visit.
The walk there is awesome. We spotted Spoonbills & Egrets on the walk.
There is a shuttle to and from there. Lap or handbag size dogs can travel on it too.
Every step anyway you take leads to surprise & wonder.
Restaurants there also.

Our journey to Mont Saint Michel was made even more magical by spending the night at one of the cozy inns nestled within the island's walls. As the sun dipped below the horizon, the abbey and surrounding buildings were bathed in a golden glow, creating a truly unforgettable atmosphere.
Exploring the island at night was an experience like no other. The narrow cobblestone streets were illuminated by the soft glow of lanterns, casting enchanting shadows on the ancient stone walls. With fewer tourists around, we felt like we had the island all to ourselves, free to wander and soak in the quiet beauty of the night.
The abbey itself took on an ethereal quality under the moonlight, its towering spires reaching up to the sky as if reaching for the stars. Inside, the hushed whispers of history seemed to echo through the halls, adding to the sense of mystery and wonder.
And then there was the tide. Watching the sea creep closer under the cover of darkness, only to recede again with the rhythm of the moon, was a sight that filled us with awe and wonder.
Spending the night at Mont Saint Michel was an experience we'll never forget. It's a place where the magic of the past meets the beauty of the present, and where every moment feels like a dream come true.

Amazing place, the fortress is over 1000 years old and is still standing strong. You can either walk to it or take a free shuttle bus from the car park. Inside it’s very authentic and picturesque, filled with little winding streets, full of history. You can walk most of the parts with a pram, but there is also lots of stairs. Lovely views on the fortress walls as well.

Beautiful site. Great scenery. Very touristic but well organized. However, this must be an extremely crowded and a better-to-avoid place during summer holidays. Late autumn, winter, early spring are fine I guess.
Kristian Kolstrup-Jansen — Google review
When you see the place from distance it is breath taking. Also when you enter, you can not stop thinking who had the idea to built it and it seems impossible to understand how they did it 1000 years ago. It is something you will need to see once in your life. Also amazing views from above.

Impressive structure. It’s alway busy so plan your trip early or late in the day. Don’t need a guide just visit the structure yourself. Tickets for cathedral cost €11,- You can buy them on the scene. Age under 26 is free of charge. Overlooking the ocean is awesome. Really worth the visit.
Jurgen Hesselink — Google review
We spent 3 hours at the Mont and made it to the top... but it is a lot of stairs up and down when you are there and even more in the Abbey. We could have spent longer, but we were on a schedule. It is one of those places that you have to see to understand and get the picture of how people had to live here.
My suggestion is to be there at opening. We were there at opening and had a great parking spot and caught the second shuttle, so the wait was very short. As we were leaving, 3 hours later, there were so many people coming up that it was difficult to get down the "ramp" through the shops and to the exit gate.
This would be an extremely difficult place to visit with kids who need strollers and aren't used to climbing stairs. Parents need to be prepared to carry their kids, if they get tired.
We had our tickets when we got there and it made it really easy. We were moved in the abbey entrance into the building, and people without tickets had to go wait in another area to purchase their tickets.
The bathrooms at the visitor center near the shuttle loading entrance are free and nice. The people T the visitor center can also give you your map and Abbey ticket too, which will make it much faster when you get to the Mont.

Incredible even in the rain! Never experienced anything like the labyrinth of churches built amongst churches. The Abbey is well worth a visit.
Spectacular views from the ramparts over the sea and coast.
Make.sure you wander off the main streets to make the most of it- lots of little quiet areas to get away from the vast crouds.
Hannah Rogers — Google review
This is a must see! Tickets should be bought in advance to enter into the Abbey part of the fortress.
Even if you didn’t get tickets to go inside the Abbey, you can walk the entire perimeter of the wall and around the grounds.
There are lots of shops and restaurants on the grounds as well. Crepes, coffee, and lots of souvenirs.
This is well worth the trek out to see it!

It is one of the most iconic visited sites in all of France!! Not for the faint of heart since the Abbey sits 355' in a medieval village. This was built in the 7th century, so there is very little help for the handicap.
One of the most enjoyable side trips we made in France!
Christine Foster — Google review
Amazing views with such a varied history... A lot to take in, quite accessible but certainly less crowded early in the morning.
Very nice restaurants on the island, with a variety of venues. Tiny, open, various menus and all surrounded by HISTORY.
Many things to consider here. For an abbey to be turned into a prison - makes one wonder at the choices we humans make!
Laine McNeil — Google review
Well worth the visit if you are in the area. Get the free shuttle bus to and from the car park - saves a 40 min walk each way and definitely do a tour of the Abbey. It’s the best thing to do here and it’s a great sight!

Just go and visit this magnificent Mount with the Abbey in the middle surrounded by little shops and restaurants! The Mont Saint Michel was the inspiration for Disney's Rapunzel (birth) Castle. Parking at about €23 a day, but free shuttle buses going back and forth. Prices are reasonable, and it costs about €13 for adults to enter the Abbey itself.

Mont Saint-Michel was beautiful! A tourist attraction indeed, but worth driving for! All stories of history are well-found in this extraordinary town on the edge of Normandy. Again, a lot of people travel to this site to see the spectacular view and old streets. There are lovely souvenir shops and (pricy) restaurants. Worth visiting once in your life! The bus ride across the bridge is free, we took it towards it. However the hike back to the parking spot was also incredible!

Traveled by road to this unique World Heritage Site offering a glimpse into the history with stunning views of ocean surrounding it. Perhaps it was winter so the crowds were thin but nonetheless a mesmerizing view. Had a chance to witness live choir. Memorable.

Stairs. Steps. Stunning Beauty. This is one of those locations that’s a must see, bucket, list item. We had the fortune of being able to stay on the island overnight, which is recommended if you can make it. So much to see and say about the area. Yes, the main drag is a gauntlet of various shop, selling candies and toys and knickknacks. No, the restaurants are not the greatest of cuisine, but the food is passable. The star, however, is the Abbey and surrounding buildings.
Hard to put towards how beautiful this is. The architecture and the various rooms you see tour or each unique and are breathtaking. By my account it took 650 steps from the bottom of the town to get to the very highest point of the Abbey. There are a couple of roots depending on whether you like stairs or rather take slanted ramps. Either way find your way up there. If you can buy tickets in advance, I would recommend it. Would also recommend being there first thing in the morning nine 930, or later in the evening, to avoid the true crush of crowds, this site not to be missed and something unique on the entire planet

Amazing experience to visit Mont Saint-Michel. Walking thru the town and the abbey is well worth the visit.
There are several walking routes you can take up to the abbey, but I would recommend the main road up from the tourism office for a more direct less stairs approach. For those who want a better scenic view, I would recommend taking the stairs up to the castle wall and walking along the outer wall path.

Very very impressive place it blew my mind. It is quite touristy and a little pricey (the car park is very very expensive for campers, and i didnt feel like the museums were worth the money, they're very outdated ) but I couldnt help but keep thinking how they built this place as its just too beautiful. Love that they allow dogs and the children enjoyed it
Bekki Hughes — Google review
Mont Saint Michel is truly a sight to behold, with its charming islet and captivating abbey perched atop. I highly recommend purchasing a ticket to explore the abbey, as it offers an enriching experience with panoramic views.
However, it's important to note that prices within Mont Saint Michel can be a bit higher than expected. While the experience is definitely worth it, visitors should budget accordingly for meals and souvenirs.
Moreover, it's wise to look for accommodations outside Mont Saint Michel's walls. Reviews suggest that hotels within the area may not provide satisfactory service, so staying in nearby towns might offer a better experience.
Overall, Mont Saint Michel is a must-see destination for its beauty and historical significance. Just keep in mind the pricing and accommodation considerations to make the most of your visit.

This is a fantastic place to visit. Be prepared for a lot of stairs. Bring your camera. You must park pretty far out, you can walk 40 minutes or take a shuttle bus. Once at the castle there are shops and you can buy tickets up in the castle.

Excellent park and ride system but a little bit expensive (17euro ).
Being a major attraction you'll find the usual tat and over prices.
Entry to the monetary (13 euro ) but well worth it.
Be prepared for huge crowds of people.
Château d'Azay-le-Rideau is a stunning Renaissance palace located on an island in the Indre River, creating a picturesque reflection in the water. This fairy-tale castle is renowned for its romantic charm and exquisite architecture, blending French and Italian styles. Visitors can admire the oldest surviving staircase in France, royal tapestries, and artworks depicting French royals adorning the walls.
What a charming and beautiful castle! The castle is on top of an island in the Indre River, and in a small town. There is a big garden to make the castle so peaceful. With the innovative Italian decor from the 16th century, and interesting French Renaissance architecture, the castle has something that makes you not want to leave in a hurry. It’s one of the most beautiful castles in Loire Valley, and a treasure of the region.

Beautiful chateaux with friendly staff and most importantly they allowed our pooch into the grounds. Can't understand why they don't all that? Well worth the 11.50 euros with beautiful grounds to also explore.

Marvelous. It is a big castle, but not oversized making the visit very pleasant. The staff at the entrance was quite cheerful and nice. It was right away a good Starr. Eautiful gardens, impressive woodwork at the top of the building.

To be fair we didn't go inside of the chateau as it was closed by the time we showed up. But the garden and it's views were absolutely gorgeous. The town it sets in also was beautifully set on the same small river and every bit as charming as this white castle itself. May not be as big or majestic, it has a more petite coziness to it, made it more real and personal.

What a beautiful and romantic chateau atop an idyllic lake with a bubbling stream and handsome woods nearby. The architecture and grounds of the castle are beautiful, and the interior is full of richly decorated rooms with plenty of history.

One of the nicer looking chateaus in my opinion. With a lot of information for each room and its paintings. I felt other chateaus didn’t really have much information on the paintings on the wall so plus point for this chateau. Loved the scenery around the castle too. They also had different translations for the explanations. Steps can be quite uneven though so do be careful!

Nice chateau. Very different from others in the area we visited. This one feels more livable and less like a show of power. The fine art exhibit was very nice. Off the beaten track but worth a visit. Nearby is a church where Jeanne de Arc stopped for a blessing on the way to her battle for Orleans.

My favourite chateau. This is taken out of a princess movie. Absolutely impressive and it gives that hint of magic. Not much to say about the inside as I was still shell shocked by its outside looks - but I am convinced it was beautiful and interesting. I will absolutely return, even once in this life.

One of the jewels of the chateaux of the Loire. Made of striking white stone and sitting in the middle of its own lake. It has different facades so make time to walk around the lake on the nature paths and enjoy it from different angles. Sometimes you can catch the chateau reflecting in the pool. There are rooms inside with decorations from different periods that it was occupied, and they span several hundred years. There are some lovely paintings also. A word of warning there are many staircases and the round ones are very steep. There is a restaurant onsite and a gift shop. There are multiple paid parking lots but a certain T navigation put me behind the castle, while the big G put me in the nearby town. Well worth the price of admission. If not too busy plan for 1.5-2 hours.

This beautiful chateau is a delight to walk around (especially with your dog). The gardens are not as spectacular as other chateaus in the area but better better shaded and with more green grass for just lazing about on while admiring the castle. The chateau itself is quite small inside but very well preserved.
Photographers will love the 360 degree shots you can get of this castle.
There is paid parking close to the castle.
Dogs are admitted to the ground but must be carried in a bag inside the castle.

“O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming...” This a nice way to use the word and an interesting place to visit: Les Remparts de St. Malo, a walk along the top of the tall granite walls that circle the charming village of St. Malo in Brittany. Imagine the medieval life, admire the Gothic and Romanesque town cathedral, step down the stairs to enjoy crepes washed down by cider. Wear a hat, take time to reminisce and appreciate the historical magnitude of how the allies were able to conquer the town back to the French. In the summer bring a swimsuit or hat, or both, otherwise bring an umbrella.

A charming small town on the English Channel, one hour drive from Rennes. My visit was short, only a few hours in the afternoon, but I managed to take a stroll along its fortification walls. The view over the sea was stunning. The tide was coming fast. The weather offered good conditions for kite surfing. What started as a sunny afternoon finished in a windy and cold evening. Quite typical in Brittany.

👍 I enjoyed walking along the ramparts, which are about 2 km long and have several access points. I learned a lot about the history and culture of Saint Malo, the city of corsairs and writers. The ramparts are well preserved and restored and have some interesting features such as cannons, statues, towers and guardhouses.

The Dinan Clock Tower stands in the heart of the historic old town. Entry costs €4 for an adult and €11 for a family. That's fair, because the medieval tower is not only well preserved, but you have a wonderful view from above! The structure of the medieval city is clearly visible. It would only be nice if the information boards were bilingual. The French texts could at least be translated into English.

Vielen Dank. !!!!!

A MUST if you are in Dinan. You have to pay an entrance fee to visit the tower, but this is justified. For security reasons, only a limited number of people are allowed on the tower, which may lead to waiting times at the entrance, but there is space for this on the tower. While climbing the tower, visitors can watch a film about the settlement of Dinan or see the first movement of the tower clock. What makes you forget the possible waiting time at the entrance is the all-round view of the tower. The view of the city is simply breathtaking, indescribable. What we found very positive was the friendliness of the supervisor. Even though we didn't speak any French, she still tried to explain a few things to us. Thank you. !!!!!

Dinan is gorgeous. An incredibly beautiful and very, very old city center. Many small streets and one building is more beautiful than the next. The basilica is beautiful. But you should also take a look at the harbor and stop off at one of the beautiful restaurants. Dinan is one of the most impressive things there is in Brittany👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

During the reign of Duke Francisco II of Brittany (1458-1488), the council decided to build a building that would serve as a meeting room as well as a watchtower for the prevention of fires (very frequent at this time). Then in 1500, Duchess Anne of Brittany ordered the installation of a clock on the tower, raising it to the rank of a bell tower, with the installation of a bell (2,452 kg in weight). Dinan becomes the third city in Brittany to have a bell tower.

The Abbaye Royale de Fontevraud, established in 1101, is a monastic city and Plantagenet necropolis. The abbey comprises separate churches and living quarters for nuns, monks, lepers and repentants. Currently serving as a venue for concerts, exhibitions and artists’ residencies, the site boasts impressive architecture and picturesque surroundings. Visitors can experience the diversity of its extensive history through exhibits on display at the abbey that are worth exploring for several hours.
What an interesting place. Spent three hours wandering around looking at the exhibits and discovering the diversity of its history.

The Abbaye has been very well restored over the years - with shiny clean walls and floors and very little inside the main church - a few tombs and an altar.
We found the most interesting part to be the rooms recounting the history of when the abbey was used as s prison, after the French Revolution. There were lots of information panels and artefacts from the era - bringing the rooms to life.
Parking is in the centre of town and can be busy.

Impressive Abbey definitely worth visiting. Both the Abbey and grounds are beautiful. We also visited while a Rembrandt collection was on display in the museum and paid €20 euros each, which was great value as we spent hours there.

The grounds are absolutely breathtaking! This place is definitely very remote and peaceful, which would have been perfect for nuns centuries ago to get closer to their faith. When I visited, it left a large impression on me. The stone work on the outside of the building was impressive and felt like a building that could easily fit into the Paris landscape. Overall, if you want to experience something that most people outside of France may not know about, I'd say visiting the grounds here and seeing what performances are happening here would be a great use of time. Hope that anyone else who comes here has just as good an experience as I did. Not to mention there is also some excellent restaurants close by!

The past abbeyes of the Abbey would have been proud of their "women's lib" activities which was risky and far ahead of their time.

Beautiful Gothic Abbey with a pretty good Modern art museum also. There was a Monet exhibition when I visited with friends; this was exceptional!! Lovely grounds, Abbey is well maintained and preserved. Some interpretation is in English, but this is inconsistent throughout. The history about the abbey being a prison etc was interesting too! Cafe in the grounds is good value, and there is good ice cream shop just outside the gates. Recommend a visit if you’re in the area.

Main reason for visiting was to see the effigies of Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Richard I (and Isabella of France). Enjoyed the large screens which had information in English as well. Information about the nuns who lived there and their daily lives. And about the Abbey as a prison. There was more there than I expected.
The terrace cafe had about 4 choices if baguette. No vegan options and the vegetarian baguette option had sold out. Typical. A couple of salads available. I had the goats cheese one which was OK. Cookies, pretzels and muffins also on offer.
The museum with the modern artwork was OK for a wander around.

Interesting Abbey by its history - especially the part where it was converted to a prison. Very well maintained, with special expositions, some coffee place outside, wine bar, hotel and upscale restaurant (1* Michelin). English translations were rare. Visit time anywhere from 1,5h to 2h at least.
Parking nearby, free of charge.

Terrible to find parking but it is signed in its own way. Came here about 8 years ago and wow have they transformed it. Brilliant for a half or even full day and considering what you get and what they have done with it the €12 entry fee is very reasonable. Lots of things to see and very good, detailed explanations in French and English.
Set in a lovely visit, again worth a trip in its own right a fantastic way to spend a lovely day.

We took family there recently whilst on holiday. The two boys, aged 6 and 7 and the adults all really enjoyed it. Set in a beautiful stone quarry, various of animals and birds, wooden carvings of animals (the boys loved climbing on these and having photos on them!). Cafe available overlooking the giraffes and zebras. Numerous little kiosks around the site to buy a drink or snack. Each zone is clearly marked, so it's easy to follow to ensure you don't miss anything. Great gift shop. Parking is opposite, across the road. A great afternoon out!

Excellent zoo. Animals are set in their natural environment and there are two routes - through tunnels and normal path to reach them. Tunnels give you break from the heat in the summer and you appear from them into brand new enviroment. You get very close to animals and there is good choice to see for one day. We arrived just before 11am and stayed until giraffes feeding at 5.30pm ( where you get the chance to feed them yourself). Shows (around 15min) are in French only but you get to see the animals being fed right at the end of it so it is worth it. We stopped for lunch in the giraffe restaurant and it was bit confusing as you get your main elsewhere , all bit heavy for me to eat in the summer with limited salad choice ( if any) but they had vegan burger my daughter was pleased about. Good gift shop. Visit here is highly recommended!

Very unusual place and one of the most nature-like animal parks I've been to. Brilliantly constructed into the underlying rocks, makes it feel almost as if there are no fences. Not too many animals in the park when we were there, but it's okay. Kind of gave it a real life feeling of animal spotting.

An excellently set out park which we found totally accessible for someone with a wheelchair which we borrowed from the site. The whole place was well marked all the way through from Stop 1 to Stop 38. The signs were in English as well as French. There are plenty of toilets dotted around the park and nice eating places too. (Sadly no vegan options). The only thing we didn’t take advantage of was the feeding times which would be well worth it with the lions and rhino etc. A lovely day and well worth a visit. 🤙

I love France and all it's amazing architecture, but I have to say that this was a delightful day to see something totally different on our tour of France. It was fun to see the animals in such a natural type habitat. I was at first worried that the large spaces would make it so we would not be able to see the animals, but the viewing areas are so smartly set up so that you can see most corners. My family was all super pleased with putting this on our trip.

Futuroscope is a cutting-edge theme park featuring state-of-the-art 3D and 4D cinemas, motion simulators, and high-tech multimedia attractions. One of its newest attractions, Tornado Hunters, promises an exhilarating experience with a tornado simulation on a massive circular screen with special effects. Visitors can also embark on space training at Objective Mars or take flight in Extraordinary Travel. For younger guests, Futuropolis offers an interactive play area.
Last time, we went on a weekday (Friday out of holidays), and it was perfect! Apparently there were approx 2000 people, waiting time was never more than 5 min. Some attractions open a liter later during the day, but early enough to enjoy the whole park without problem.

Great place for family most of attractions are for kids at least 120cm, so pay attention for heights of your little ones.
We went in February unfortunately weather was a bit cold but the great advantage, we entered directly to attractions, NO waiting lines.

Their final fountain show is just AMAZING, I had never seen something similar!

We spent 2 days at Futuroscope! First week of January. Less people so no qeueing during this period. The kids loved the futurpolis (kidsland) however my daughter was measuring 102cm and most need to be 105cm tall, so be aware! However we liked the park alot. The raving rabbit attractions was very good. 4D was amazing. The late night open air show is fantastic. We all have a blast! The only thing that maybe can be improved are the opening hours of the coffeeshops and fast food restaurants. For take away coffee they were closed at 18:00. So no hot drinks after in the cold. The fast food restaurant had a break from 16-18:00… why? The recycle cups we can’t get a refund in that restaurant and we need to claim it outside in one of the foodtrucks , which of course they are closed too.. what a hassle! But other then that we all enjoy our days in Futuroscope.

A great park that's unlike any other I've been to. The attractions are varied and very exciting plus we really enjoyed the magic show. A strange thing is that some of the restaurants close after lunch and don't reopen until 7pm, which I found odd/frustrating for a theme park. I'm still rating 5* because I think the afternoon closure is a cultural thing.

La Vallée Des Singes is a unique park where visitors can observe various species of monkeys, lemurs, and apes in their natural habitats. The walk-through enclosures provide an up-close experience with the animals, especially during feeding times when they come out in front for observation. Despite some areas showing signs of wear and occasional puddles on the paths, the overall experience is worth it. The park also focuses on conservation and education efforts.

An excellent day out. Plenty of space to walk around and view the monkeys of all different variations in each section. It’s very well signposted to get from place to place either in order or getting around for the feeding times. There are nice spaces to sit and eat and the feeding times are well spaced out on the map. Thanks for a good family day out. 🤙

It was a rotten day weatherwise and on entry we were warned the monkies are not fond of the rain but we weren't disappointed. In fact we got close up to plenty that ventured out of their huts. Viewed one feeding session but preferred it when not quite so frenzied.
They seem to do a lot of conservation and education work. The park looked a little tired in places and the paths were very puddly in places but was well worth the visit. My 4 year old nephew will keep these memories I hope. Thank you

There are a lot of trees and I didn't feel the summer heat. It's a bit of a labirinth but once you figure out how to use the map you receive at the entrance, it will be ok.
I also liked that the peacocks are not afraid of people and this makes the place more amazing :)

This is always a good day out with the kids, sometimes you see more monkey than others, depends on the weather and feeding times.
There is a lot of walking so wear comfortable shoes and a pushchair for toddlers.
There are a lot of information signs with details about the breeds, however the vast majority of them are entirely in French, which is a shame.
There are several play areas with climbing frames and swings dotted throughout the park, which can allow adults and children to rest for a short while.
It can get busy, you will especially notice the crowds at each of the restaurants where queues are highly likely. However the food is of a good quality and the restaurant seemed fairly clean.

We had a picnic in the parking area (sounds odd but everyone was doing it as even that area is so nice and green and lush) well worth the visit with farmyard animals and a restaurant too smile we loved it and will be back again ☺
Puy du Fou, a theme park in France, features epic shows from Viking era to Ancient Rome. The resort offers free WiFi and newspapers in public areas, as well as free parking. Front desk staff is multilingual and can help with luggage storage and answer any questions about the area. The park also has outdoor seating and wheelchair accessibility. Alcohol is served at the resort and credit cards are accepted. Table service is available.
The best experience I have ever had in a themed park! Almost every spectacle is really amazing and beautiful. Some are really touching!
Must go place in France, I think!

An extraordinary experience of variety of shows outstanding from any other there parks. The use of modern technology enhances each show where classical theatrical media of communication is enriched by unusual props and animals. Each show is absolutely outstanding. If you wonder what you can be surprised by in a theatre stage, you will never guess it before you can actually see it.
The cons might be quite long waiting queues for each show. You are not physically able to do all the shows in one day. Major language spoke is French. Most shows translated into English while using the park's app. You also need your own transport to get in. No local buses operating. Taxi sign outside the park- none of taxis ever arrived.
Must see place for definite ;)

Great value for money. The shows were so fabulous and involved, great theatricality and the sets were amazing. The performers were acrobats, swords men and horsemen which made the performances.
French language performances (I cannot speak French) did not detract from the story or the performance.
Food and drinks seemed reasonably priced for a captive audience too.
Well done to everyone!

Personally I am not a fan of amusement parks. This concept is more interesting compared to Disney. However, it is way too crowded. We went to the Viking show three times, only got in the last time because we were there an hour ahead of the starting time. Plan on the app ahead of time. Buy the fast pass if you can get one. It will allow you to get into any show at last minute, which allows you to watch more shows. I bought my ticket last minute, there were no fast pass available anymore. But it might be worth it if you are visiting this place only for one day. They stamp you if you have to leave and can re enter one more time on the same day.

Marguerite Wang — Google review
We visited Puy du Fou as a family. The shows are spectacular and really high quality, but we won't be going back. Although they start every show with a recorded message about "the unique bond between humans and animals" and seem to have animal welfare in high regard, we tend to have a different view. In many shows the animals perform in a setting that is hard to defend as natural, with loud music and many special effects. Even tough they are trained and used to this setting, it feels out of place.
Especially the gladiator show feels like a relic from the past with a tiger and a lion in a circus-like setting. Probably a good representation of how it was 2000 years ago, but not something for this day and age. Of course that's a personal opinion, but I hope this will at least help you to make an informed decision.
Please keep in mind all shows are in French. They offer real-time translations via their app, so download this beforehand. The storylines of the shows can be a bit moralistic sometimes, but the kids didn't really bother.
There are plenty of choices in terms of food and drinks, ranging from fast food to fine dining. I do recommend to book lunch and/or dinner in advance if you don't go for a sandwich or crêpes.
Expect to spend some time to park if you come by car. There is plenty of space, but there will be some waiting before you can enter the parking space. It took us about 30 minutes in total to go from the car park to the Covid check and into the park. Although not cheap I do recommend to buy the Pass Emotion, a kind of VIP ticket, if you only have a day. This will allow you late access at the shows and reserved seating. I'd recommend Puy du Fou to make it possible to also retrieve the Pass Emotion digitally. It's cumbersome to queue for this pass while you have booked everything online and in advance.
I hope that one day they will be able to host high quality shows without the need to involve a large amount of animals.

We've been going to this park for years, each time we visit France. Its absolutely spectacular shows are amazing. However, this year it was ultra packed..as if they'd let too many people inside. It is a great theme park well worth the 53 euro entrance fee. If you want to experience French culture, this is a better place than Disneyland Paris. Shows of less than 30 minutes are of high quality. The carefully well prepared show is even touching. Even if you don't know French, you won't have any problems enjoying it. Both children and parents can enjoy it together. Perfect!

The highlight of our family holiday. We spent two days in the park and it was incredible. The shows are amazing, the park clean, the staff and actors just great. I wish they would improve the web site booking system. It doesn’t work on many devices and is difficult to navigate and understand in English. I ended up having multiple emails and phone calls to confirm the booking.
But it was all worth it to experience the park.
(As others have noted the history is wrangled for a particular nationalist/catholic purpose. Take it with a pinch of salt!)

What can I say? Puy du fou...a crazy experience indeed, as 'fou' suggests. Left me in awe, wondering, gripped by stories, mesmerised by the artists, the remarkable storytelling, the talent and acrobatic abilities. The engineering and imagination gone into the making of this place are second to none! Everything works in clockwork perfection, each scene a second by second picture one could frame! Wizardry!!
* PS Take some sort of plastic sheet, like a garbage bags, for example, to sit on. Benches could be wet or humid. Pack a couple of sandwiches and apples to eat asyou wait in the line. It's worth getting an emotion pass, even if just for a day.

Nothing like you’d ever believe, and definitely not a theme park! One of the best experiences in France, and would 100% recommend. Suitable for people willing to brave the heat and long walk, as the park is quite large.

Second visit here, it's an amazing and unique place. Definitely worth a visit. I would recommend going on a weekday if possible, our second visit was on a Sunday and unless you have the VIP option you will be in for much longer waits and may miss out on your chosen shows altogether.

Trip of a lifetime. Just wow. So very professional. Superb in every way. Highly recommend. Definitely book the fast track tickets, it is so well attended. We went midweek and it was hammered. Well done to all involved 👏

Such an awesome experience for my first time in France! The shows were beyond belief and wish I had more time to see them all! A must go if you are even close to this area of France. Definitely worth the trip.

What a special place! You haven’t lived until you have been here. We have been twice now. The stagecraft is exceptional, the animals are cared for so well and the food was delicious. I tell everyone about this place, it’s worth staying for three days to see it all. Also worth pre booking dinner and lunch as the restaurants get fully booked out. It’s set in a forest and is the most amazing theme park (although it has no rides!) so many highlights for us. It is truly a place like no where else. The staff were so friendly and helpful too. We can’t wait to come back!

Amazing theme park. All the shows are spectacular from stunts to special effects. The hotel "La citadelle" was a nice and pleasant hotel to stay in thanks to the helpful staff, wonderful decoration and breakfast included.
The restaurant "La table des ambassadeurs" was mind-blowing. The decoration and atmosphere send you back to the 17th century. The food and the all-you-can-eat buffet were amazing (local French products).
The park is worth being visited for at least 2 days if you want to see the best out of it. It also includes animal pens. The atmosphere (villages, stalls, music, decoration, characters, shows) keeps you amazed.

Seriously awesome. One of the best theme parks you'll ever go to, and certainly the best one without any "rides". All the shows and attractions are very well done, the sets are spectacular, the actors are all great, and all of the site staff are friendly and helpful. The food and drinks are reasonably priced. Our son had the best day!

Absolutely loved it, there’s nothing like it. The shows are spectacular, very well done! Be prepared for lots of walking and some long queues and pack lots of water. I would recommend booking 2 days so you can see all the shows but one day is still very satisfactory.

Amazing shows. It is just the perfect parc for kids and grown-up. 2 days is recommended to see everything and a fast pass on your day 1 to skip lines for biggest event. (To be ordered on line the day before as it is often sold out). Night shows are to be booked few month before your stay and are a must see.
Nantes' botanical garden is a haven of beauty and discovery, home to some of the most imaginative creatures and designs found anywhere in the world. The gardens are free to access and open to the public, offering an escape from the bustle of city life. Visitors can wander amongst exotic plants from around the globe or take a guided tour to learn more about their flora.
Very nice place to go for a walk. Plenty of interesting plants and trees to discover. There is a healing area where you can check the type of plants that can cure all different types of illness. Playful Art pieces are everywhere. To enjoy during sunny days!

This park is now on top of my list of botanical gardens. I enjoyed every inch of it. It is full of hidden surprises around every corner and presents a very pleasant experience. There is a restaurant inside, but it was fully booked so no comments about the quality and taste of the food.

Hello everyone, I visited this park last week. It is a park located in the middle of the city center of Nantes. It is beautiful for picnicking and walking alone or with children or friends. It has birds of different types and a lake.

A paradise for a dip in nature and beauty. Lovely landscapes, plants and flowers. Suggested as a shortcut from the station, but mostly for some relax (there’s also a very nice café). The variety of species is so rich and interesting, it’s very well kept. Funny benches and an interesting educational aspect. It’s not a full stars because we where looking for the birds (shaped hedges), and there is only a cute, beautifully maintained alone sleeping bear. It’s a worthy walk!

Perfect for a nice walk in the park and having a drink or coffee to relax. Beautiful trees and plants. A lot of benches to have a seat and enjoy.
This beautiful and imaginative attraction has some of the most fantastic machines you will ever see. It is perfect for all ages and is located in a forgotten corner of the city.
Amazing place to visit! The machines are incredible and they demonstrate all of them with some people getting to ride (talks are in French, obviously, fair enough). Worth staying in the gallery until they do all the demos as once you leave each section you can't go back. The ticket price is fair, just be aware it's either for the gallery OR a ride on the amazing mechanical elephant. But you can still see the elephant up close and in action. There is also a view of the workshops and you can climb down the incredible Heron tree and see its prototypes. Check the opening times if you're going at all "out of season" as it was afternoon only on the day we visited. Highly recommended.
Caitlin — Google review
It's neat and has a lot of interesting machines to see. The machines as art are really amazing. They're intricately designed and really quite beautiful. They do shows of the machines that are displayed in the gallery, then a walk up the terrace to see the workshop and a short movie, and finally a walk along a metal tree lined with plants.
8.50 to see the gallery, 8.50 to ride the elephant, 8.50 to ride the carousel. The gallery ticket and elephant ticket allow you to go up to the terrace as well. With that said the machines movements and actions are all quite simple so don't expect any great feats or robotics.
Nick — Google review
An amazing place! This was a very special place for all the animal machines there are and how realistic their movements are. I was blown away by how big and accurate they are. There was a bit of a queue to buy the tickets so I’d definitely recommend getting them in advance. As for the prices, I took a picture and posted here too. There are different prices for individuals, students and families so take it into account. If you want to have an elephant ride, that’s extra. The elephant machine can carry 50 people! The exposition is very interactive. The staff regularly asks for volunteers to help controlling the machines. It’s perfect for all ages. Take your time to enjoy all the tour, including the construction area. There’s a video room and they show how it all started and also what their vision and future plans are. Go for a stroll on the branch too. A unique experience and view.

Amazing place. Especially to bring kids there. Lots of fun for everyone.
Tickets can be but at the door or there are some slots available on line. Place is still growing so expect more in near future.
Highly recommended place to see in Nantes

A very nice place for all types of people, singles, couples, families, and kids. Really enjoyed being there with my partner.
- The big elephant was going around and spraying water on people and everyone was following it. You have the option of seeing more information by buying tickets and going inside the building where other similar animals are found inside, which are quite nice as well. The elephant offers rides as well so many people enjoy the show from being inside and over it, yet I think it's more enjoyable to play down to it.
- The areas around have playgrounds so some people were playing basketball. Also Going to the river is nice as well.

Very interesting creatures in a cool setting. Very cleverly engineered animals and creatures which take you back to a Jules Verne-esque universe. The giant elephant is beautiful and graceful but watch out, it might squirt you with water! A must visit when in Nantes.

The coolest thing I've seen in a long time. I'm obsessed with this place and everything in it. Worth buying a ticket in advance so you don't have to wait in line. Also fun to wait around and see all the machines move but it can get a bit crowded. The green garden area is my favorite 😍

This place is a dream come true for anyone into machines and Transformers movies! The elephant machine is seriously mind-blowing, looks like it belongs in the wild. Just a heads up, the info is all in French, but they've got this cool app, "Les Machines De L’ile,"

that you can use in your language. Oh, and if you're planning a winter visit, bundle up; it gets pretty chilly. Overall, for mechanical engineers and machine geeks, this spot is a must-visit.

Very impressive piece of Machinery, all the family can enjoy those huge animatronics creatures made of wood and metal. Note that they are scheduled at specific times so make sure you check when the “things” will be wandering. Enjoy!

The Gallery is somewhat underwhelming, however the elephant ride is good fun and overall it is very good value for money. The large carousel also looked like fun but probably better if you have children with you. It was also a bit more expensive. The small carousel looked great for younger children and good value.
Annette Hawkins — Google review
Great place to be and unleash the nerd in you, kid or adult :P
Running away from the elephant spraying water was ridiculously fun.
Elephant ride is was already reserved and complete for the day so we couldn't ride it but enjoyed our time a lot in the gallery and carousel anyway.
Reserving your ticket online might be a good idea in high touristic season.
bur?in u?ak — Google review
The gallery was really interesting, with many different mechanized animals. If you are lucky, you get to ride in one of the machines as it is demonstrated. We "flew" in the heron bied machine, with the audience watching us, it was a really cool experience. Children love it too! After the visit you can use the ticket to enter on the opposite site of the building and have a look at the workshop. This is also a really good spot to be in when the elephant returns from its round. You then exit through the three branch.
Maarten van Beek — Google review
Amazingly good fun, especially for pre-teen children. I would recommend the ride on the Elephant and the Gallery of the Machines, but not the Sea Carousel as the ticket only gives 1 ride rather than 1 ride per level (there are 3 different levels and for a family of 4 or 5 it costs just over 33 euro for a 4 minutes ride)
Laura Carle — Google review
Such a fantastic experience... it's like a little Steampunk Disneyland! We enjoyed half a day here, riding the elephant and carousel, visiting the machines demonstrations and the workshop. We're heading to Toulouse tomorrow to ride the Minotaur as well.

During winter it's not a very attractive place to visit. But that said, the magnificent elephant is a must-see even during g days there are no rides on it. I assume the rides are during summer when the crown is large. The suvernier shop has expensive goods.
Fathima Hafsha — Google review
So fun and unique! The only main attraction in this city.
Mechanical animals that you can ride on.
You should look at the time slots of the elephant ride before your visit. The ride is 30mins.
The museum will take you an hour-ish or less to finish, before you take the elephant ride at last.
Haynes Cheung — Google review
Loved this interesting interactive exhibit! My son had told me about it, so we were excited to visit. A rugby exhibition was happening nearby, and there were two carousels nearby created by the same people that if I was a kid I'd die to ride. One carousel was three in one! Three stories of carousels. The exhibit was guided, and they had older children and adults ride or run them - a giant me mechanical spider, a heron that "flew", etc. But of course the piece de resistance was the elephant. For less than 10€, you could ride on this enormous elephant in a 35 minute ride ( you have to book a time for the ride). A once in a lifetime experience! Great for families OR adults. Plenty of parking a block away in several parking garages.
Dee Golles — Google review
Really impressive and interesting! If you are in Nantes you should absolutely go there and see the Elephant and the carousel right next to it too.

Absolutely loved this place! The way they have the displays and demonstration in the shop and also for guests to try was amazing. They let you be part of the crew that operates the machines to make it move, such an interactive experience! This place is worth the visit for young and adults to experience.

In the summer, Cours des Dames hosts stalls offering a variety of goods such as crafts, cheeses, and scenic paintings.
La Rochelle Aquarium is a family-friendly aquarium that features 12,000 marine animals and 600 different species. The aquarium is located in La Rochelle, France and is well-known for its bubbling seawater tanks containing around 600 aquatic species. The aquarium is easy to navigate and has interactive displays and educational programs that are great for the whole family.
I love this place. Fun for the whole family. Interactive, educational, easy to follow, well constructed and thought out. The way marine life is displayed and explained is great.

I went to visit the aquarium on a Thursday morning and I could freely enjoy all the wonders because it was not crowded. It is a very calming and educational place and is perfect for the whole family, adults and children. It includes a multitude of aquariums and numerous species of fish and marine life, but also an Amazonian forest. At the exit there is also a toy shop with a wide variety of plush toys in the form of fish and other specific animals. I recommend the visit without any hesitation

I have been in a few European aquariums and this one is only good. There is plenty to see but it lacks the possibility of interacting with some of the animals which for children can be a little boring. I could not find big turtles just small ones so I was disappointed. Overall interesting but expected more.

Very beautiful aquarium. Compared to Sealife or other aquariums this a much better one when it comes to variety and style. You can easily spend half a day with family and kids here. The collection is huge and there is a auditorium for kids. Beautifully decorated and designed. Absolutely recommended

Excellent aquarium that remains educational but fun for kids. My five year old absolutely loved it. Clean, well maintained, and enjoyable. Tip: Don't queue for tickets, just buy them online from the web site. I saw the queue of 100+ people so got my phone out, bought tickets for that exact time and walked straight in.

This aquarium is underrated. It's actually not that small, with toddlers, we spent a good 1.5-2 hours in here. love the long opening hours from 10-20. Totally worth coming back to La Rochelle for. The first floor has all the local Atlantic fish (which are like fish we eat? So they were pretty ugly). But when you first come in, you come into a very cool jellyfish tunnel. Then on the upper floor, you start to see more colorful fish from Indo-pacific and that was really fun. The facilities are nice, they have some really cool sea horses that I haven't really seen elsewhere. Some tanks are low where you can look from above without a glass (a lot of confidence in people not touching the fish...) and a lot of different type of lobsters and crabs. They have a large tank with maybe 6 medium and small sharks which you can see really well. The coolest part was the sea turtle which I honestly have not seen anywhere else. Maybe this isn't world class like the Osaka Aquarium or the Okinawa one but it's pretty good and I would probably get an annual membership next time. Absolutely no crowds on an October Monday. Awesome.

This is a superb aquarium and was the highlight of our visit to La Rochelle.
There is very reasonable parking just outside which makes getting there very easy. All the exhibits have dual language information so perfect for French and English speakers. The aquarium is large over two floors organised by ocean and finishing with a tropical rainforest exhibit!
As a family of four it cost €60, so not a cheap activity, we were there about two hours. However the kids loved it, it was very well done, educational and exciting so I’d say worth the fee. I’d recommend a visit.
Chris Brierley — Google review
There were some interesting species to see at La Rochelle Aquarium!
We enjoyed walking around, having a look at the different fish and taking photos. However, it was so busy and loud that we could barely hear ourselves think - it was also really difficult to get to the front of each tank to be able to have a closer look at the fish inside.
There also wasn’t as much variety as we expected for the ticket price, which was a bit of a shame.
I definitely do not recommend going during a school holiday or it will be overly packed but, otherwise, it was a nice enough experience.

I went here with my family. The aquarium was extremely packed with people even thought it was late afternoon. There was a big line of people in front of entrance. I advance you to buy tickets online. It was really hot inside, probably thanks to the crowds. You have to find one spot by the glass and just move with the crowd, if you want to see everything. Also, I was looking forward to buying the aquariums touristic coin, but they were sold out. But I have to say that the place is huge and they've got many kinds of fish, crabs, etc. It was beautiful, but the crowds were uncomfortable. Overall, it was nice.
Eco-zoo housing around 40 threatened species, including monkeys, anteaters, penguins & lions.

Great little zoo involved in many international conservations programs. The path are surrounded with exuberant vegetation making you feel like you're in the middle of nature. Around 50 species available in great natural looking enclosures. Some shows available at times during the day. Reasonable in price, 16.50€ for an adult. The bar- restaurant is also reasonable in price.

A somewhat smaller zoo, but beautifull and fun. There is an optimal route which should take you past all enclosures. The zoo was very nice for (young) children. Take your time and you will have a nice visit. There is nectar at the entrace for €1 which you can feed to some birds, which is really worth it.
Jan Jaap z — Google review
A nice place to spend a couple of hours at a reasonable price. €58 ( 2 adults, 2 children). You can get €1 off per person in the tourist discount booklets. The zoo itself is for animals that are at risk of extinction. A short, smooth and easy place to get around and mostly shaded due to tree/plant cover. Basic food offering at the cafe. Souvenir shop had some interesting/ rare products. We got free parking outside easily towards end of peak season. You might need to research parking options during peak season. The guide booklet is in French. An English option would help.

Really enjoyed this zoo. We spent a couple of hours there. It was a nice walk around with plenty to see. The only thing one of the kids didn't like was the open bird sanctuary. Magnifique. A great reason to visit Rochefort. Hermione is nothing else than a piece of art, a volunteering effort, a very passionate crew. Thank you all for reviving the history thru this glorious ship and letting us the visitors to enjoy it. A must see in this part of France.

We had a wander round in the mid-afternoon, it was great to see a tall ship that had clearly been lovingly reconstructed. Unfortunately, partly due to the size of our group, the cost of guided tours were a little more than we were willing to stomach. However, just the setting it's in and the surrounding area is well worth a look.

Phare des Baleines is an octagonal tower made of limestone that was constructed in the mid-1850s. Visitors can climb to the top for a fee of 3.5 euros, where they will enjoy breathtaking views of their surroundings. The tower also provides some historical information about the island's maritime activities. A well-stocked gift shop and a few touristy knick-knack shops are available nearby, as well as several cafes and restaurants.
Had a beautiful cycle ride from La Flotte to Phare des Baleines and was not disappointed. We climed the tower which had the most amazing stone spiral staircase. The view from the top was amazing and well worth the effort. Lots of places to eat and buy a drink. A lovely place to visit 😁

Beautiful overview over the sea and island, even on less sunny days a visit to consider. The climb to the top is a bit long but not impossible. With the right weather conditions and high tide it is possible to spot 'cross seas'. A sea state that only happens in rare places in the world, among which at the Phare des Baleines. Don't forget to check out the small souvenir shop.

Located at the north end of the île de Ré, it is well worth a drive up!
There is plenty of paid parking, a few cafés , an ice cream parlour and several shops.
You can visit the museum, walk up the tower, or just admire the architecture from the gardens. The views out to sea are amazing - you can see La Tranche sur Mer and the south Vendée coast from the ramparts.
Annette Khan — Google review
Very picturesque sightseeing and one of the most famous island landmarks. One would believe it's the end of the island - although it is the most Western point, it is technically not, as the island as got a hook shape the real end is rather the Trousse-chemise beach. You cannot park at the lighthouse itself - car parks are now a few minutes walk away, which actually makes the experience much better.

The Zoo La Palmyre is a large and diverse animal park surrounded by lush pine forests. It is home to a variety of animals such as big cats, polar bears, penguins, and apes in their natural habitats. Visitors can also explore the vibrant plant life of the zoo. The park offers interactive opportunities for visitors including feeding some of the animals. It is an interesting destination for both kids and adults alike with a fabulous layout that is clean and tidy.
What a wonderful place to visit❤️ Big zoo with a lot of different animals, birds and plants. Kids were happy to feed some of the animals ❣️
Great Zoo! Very interesting. You should visit this place for sure!
Interesting for kids and adults 😉

Fantastic for families. It takes about 3 hours to go through everything. Save more time (entire day) if you want to see all the shows. We had a blast!

Fantastic modern caring Zoo. Ok, we all know the negatives about zoos but they do really try and save animals across the globe. Amazing value for money- our four hour visit just flew by. The sea lions performance was hilarious and they appeared to be enjoying it too.

Very nice zoo.
Forest area, shaded, lots of benches and quite big, so it's a nice walk. Good toilets and a place to tap drinking water. Restaurant/food were not very expensive like often in these places.
The usual animals, not very big enclosures, but new ones are being made.
Outside of high season: not busy at all, great 👍

I don’t specially loves zoos because I think that animals are better in nature but I agree with the fact that it helps the conservation of different species.
This zoo is great. It’s big and have lots of varieties of animals. However the enclosure are too small for some animals. Specially for the big cats, the girafes, the elephants and the sea lions. It’s so small that they go in circles around their enclosure because they can’t do anything. I found this really small for this zoo because it’s beautiful.
Otherwise it’s great and we spent almost 4 hours there visiting everything. But during the school holidays there is too much people and it’s horrible.
I would recommend this zoo for kids but I wouldn’t place it in the top zoos in France because of some enclosure.

This place is excellent I was not expecting such a busy zoo with so many animals in superb condition and very educational. This is a must visit so glad we did as a spur of the moment decision and what a good one.

Quite an interesting zoo, definitely more 'in contact' zoo, than the ones I have seen in other countries, the animals seemed in more proximity than other zoos, it would have even been even nicer if some of the animals had more space, here and there if feels cramped..but over all a great zoo..

A must visit. This is without a doubt the best zoo I have ever visited.
The environment is relaxed and not too busy. You can really get up close to the animals. Lots of wild cats to see...up close. Also lots of other animals. I loved how there was a path to follow, so you can't miss anything.
Takes a good 3-4 hours to cover the whole zoo.

We visited whilst staying in La Palmyre and whilst not a zoo fan, we had a great day out.
When they say you need four hours, you need four hours to be able to take it all in. There is a clearly signposted route through the zoo and also a parrot and sea lion show, which is on a couple of times through the day. There is a couple of eateries but we took a picnic with us and there was plenty of benches/tables to sit at on the way round. There is also plenty of shade so even on a hot day there’s areas to get out the sun whilst walking around.
There was a huge array of different animals and species to view with both their French and English names on the info boards. You can buy some popcorn at the entry (€2.50 a bag) which you can use to feel the animals with. There’s a feeding area for the giraffes which was a delight but take some, wet wipes with you if you do as there isn’t any soap in the toilets.
We arrived at 11:30 and the zoo was already very busy but still plenty of parking available. Don’t be shy to park right at the entrance to the car park, next to the road as it’s only a short walk along the road to the entrance. Also be aware that on a hit sunny day, the animals are either asleep or rather static, basking in the great La Palmyre heat.
Overall it was a great day out for all ages and very reasonably priced at €19 per adult.

Visited here while on holiday with the wife and 2 teenagers. This is one of the best zoos we've been to, mainly due to the range of animals and how close you can get to them.
When you pay, buy a bag of popcorn or two as you can feed many of the animals by hand. Our favourites were the giraffes and the emus (beware the emus will steal the bag if you're not careful). If you follow the signs to guide your journey round the zoo, at the end there is a goat corral where you can get in with the 50+ goats and offload your remaining popcorn. This experience is almost worth the entry fee alone 🤣
Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area or even worth driving to 👍🏻

I was and still am shocked and I regret visiting the zoo in La Palmyre… cant explain why they have 4stars. the wolves are too many in a very small enclosure. They show typical psychological illness behaviors and any social interactions with eachother. Felt really bad watching them. They have no possibilities to hide, because there are no trees, holes or stones big enough in their enclosure and the few small buildings they have are completely open and visible in all directions - you can watch them from every angle. This description unfortunatley fits to the enclosures for the Lions, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, zebras, bisons, donkeys.. why arent there trees, bushes, stones? And why do you close the doors to the inner enclosures so that the animals cant hide and rest if they need it? Ah, right, because EVERYTHING in this zoo is build and designed for the visitor. I can give you a guarantee for seeing every Animal that is advertised on the Homepage or Zoomap. The sealions have the worst „home“ ever. They live in a tiny Swimmingpool and get an Electric shock if they come too close to the fence. Humans too, haha. Only people who absolutely never have heard or read anything about animalprotection would like it here. Impossible to watch the animals and interprete that they are healthy or happy.

Was a good night out, lots going on good food and service. My only criticism would be the comedian acting disabled / shy, it came over to me as making fun of people with disabilities, although I’m sure this wasn’t the intention. I’d probably suggest he tones that down a bit as to be sure not to offend. Overall a very entertaining night, very colourful and spectacular with sequins everywhere !
The Monolithic Church of Saint-Emilion is a remarkable underground place of worship constructed from limestone during the 12th century. The church features a 68-meter bell tower that offers an amazing panoramic view of the city with 365 degrees visibility. It is worth noting that most of the tombs and catacombs inside are privately owned, which is somewhat unusual for such historical landmarks not to be publicly held. Unfortunately, photography is prohibited on-site.
What a fabulous place to view Saint Émilion from. At the top of the tower you can see 365° around the city. I visited in December so there weren’t many tourists around. Directly across from the tower you can sign out the key which allows entry into the tower and climb for a spectacular view. Highly recommend.

Beautiful church and when we were there a market was running just outside on the grounds. Plenty of people wandering and enjoying what was on offer. The cathedral itself is worth a visit, as it was quite stunning inside. The market had everything from bread and cheese to oysters and beer. The market is just down and around a hallway, so not very spacious, but a great experience.

A very interesting tour with a great guide at a sensible price. This is not only an intriguing tour but it continues to be available out of the main season so a great activity to book in case it’s raining or indeed too hot! As it happened the weather on the day was perfect, and an allowed us an out of season uncrowded walk around a still very lively and beautiful Saint Emilion and an outside drink in the square by the church. A big success for my group of 6 friends.

Impressive toombs and catacombs!
Had no idea about their existence...Little bit unusual that they are mostly private owned, and not set as a public/city good, and as well.no photos are allowed🤔!?

The guided tour of the monolithic church was very good (English tours are available and tickets can be purchased from the tourist office). Unfortunately, pictures are not allowed inside. Abandonment at various points in the past means the interior is a bit baren, but still incredible that it was all carved out of the rock. There are also a few remaining carvings that can be seen decorating the interior. Worth visiting!

Highlight of St Emilion for me. Get a key from the tourist office for 2 EUR. 196 steps up, with great views from the very top. Nobody else was in there at the time.
In comparison, the Bordeaux cathedral's similar bell tower is 6 EUR, but you need an allotted time slot, has more steps, was quite busy, and has more monotonous views across the city centre. But a good view of the cathedral.

196 steps to the top but the views make up for everything and more. we came here late on a Sunday afternoon and had the whole place to ourselves bar another group of 3 :) stunning! And a great place to kickstart our st emilion maiden trip

We stumbled across the tower in Saint Emilion. It’s a beautiful centerpiece of the town. We were delighted to hear we could go up to the view tower for just €2 pp.
It is accessed through a small door which can be opened with a key that you will receive from the tourist office located in the middle of the town beside the structure. They hold onto a form of ID in return for the key and you will receive it back once the key is returned.
The photos speak for themselves! If you’re visiting Saint Emilion, definitely check it out.

Very interesting place when done as part of a tour to understand the history and politics of the region and era.
Lots of steps and uneven floors however so consider this if you have any mobility issues whatsoever.
No photos or videos are allowed in the monuments, so be sure to take your time and take picture in your head to take away!
Paul Swarbrick — Google review
At the heart of the city, the monolithic church reminds the religious activity of the city in the Middle Ages and intrigues by its unusual design. If it shows itself in the eyes of the visitor by the position of a 68-meter-high bell tower - take you time, climb it till the top and take some pictures
Giovanni Negri — Google review
The church is impressive, as it is fully carved out in the rock. However, there is very left of the original decorations as it was desacralised after the French Revolution and has remained in private hands ever since. The church can only be visited in a guided tour that includes the Trinity Chapel, Saint Emilion’s grotto and the Catacombs. The tour is informative but I felt it was a bit too long (1h). Also, notice that pictures are not allowed inside of the monuments.

AMAZING CHURCH INSIDE, GREAT VIEWS OUTSIDE Stunning centerpiece of the town of Saint Emilion, it's the landmark that you'll remember. The church inside is beautiful and on a sunny day, the sun streams in through the stained glass windows.
Beautiful to look at on the inside, it also has some amazing medieval cloisters that you can walk around. The views and pictures that you'll get from it are amazing and there's a lookout point just outside that you will be able to see the whole town from.
You can really feel what life is really like in the middle of the French countryside from here. Really amazing experience if you come here.
The La Cite du Vin wine museum is a 10-floor structure shaped like a curved glass and aluminum bottle that opened in Bordeaux in June 2016. It educates visitors about wines' influence on history, geography, culture and civilization while also including tasting areas with different types of wine.
Give yourself several hours to truly immerse yourself in this fun interactive museum of the history of wine. There is so much to learn from the history of wine making to regions around the world that produce wine. It is worth the entrance fee and it’s fun for all ages. Don’t forget to go to the 8th floor where you have a panoramic view of Bordeaux and can taste the wines. This is a must experience for wine enthusiasts!!

Great experience! It’s expansive and takes a little getting used to the way the interactive experiences work and navigating the crowds. Going there when it’s less busy would have been better. We tasted a wine upstairs and maybe would have chosen differently if we were informed ahead that there’s only one taste per person. We wrongfully assumed we might be able to taste a few with our ticket. Overall a fun and educational time!

It really is a masterpiece of a museum. When I was told the majority of stuff was on the second floor, I didn't think it could be that great. I was wrong. They pack so much into their space, but with enough room where you aren't crowded with the other people. I went midday on a Sunday and was able to get through in a little over three hours before I enjoyed my glass of wine on the eighth floor. The coolest part was the sensory exhibit where you can smell all the different aromas that might come up in your wine tastings. It was really nice. The bottle shop is also mesmerizing with all the selections. They really did this right.
I used the city ticket and was able to get free access and a glass of wine, so if you're visiting the city, I highly recommend that!

Lots of really cool interactive exhibits. Depending on your level of wine knowledge, there is potentially a lot to learn. The Cite du Vin facility is worth the visit on its own. It was crazy busy the Sunday we visited so we didn't get to all we wanted to. I wouldn't recommend bringing the little ones. There were a lot of sad little faces.

Super modern, futuristic museum - but may not be for everyone.
This museum is state of the art when it comes to technology, interaction and stimulating your various senses. If you are into wine, this is a great place to learn and improve on your wine knowledge. But the entry price is steep, especially when there is no temporary exhibition.
The museum’s permanent exhibition is rather compact being distributed on a single floor, but the depth of audio / visual content can keep you engaged for an entire day if you so wish.
An added bonus is the included wine tasting (1 glass) on the highest floor with a nice panoramic view, lots of wines to choose from and good sommelier assistance.

This impressive encyclopedic museum dedicated to viticulture, wine making and the associated culinary traditions is a must see for any oenophile who finds her/himself in the city of Bordeaux. Nearly 20 impressive multimedia powered exhibits are featured in the museum's permanent exhibit. All major languages are supported. While this museum proudly showcases France's accomplishments, visitors from other wine making powerhouses will not feel under represented. This is a "go at your own pace" experience. We spent three hours including the complimentary tasting on the highest floor followed by a visit to the wine store and gift shop. There are multiple dining options available on site from a simple cafe to a full service restaurant. If those don't appeal there is an impressive food hall across the street. Very ample parking is found in the structure adjacent to the food hall. Those staying in downtown Bordeaux might consider a walk to this museum or taking one of the many trams running along the river front. A visit to this museum might be recommended for those spending more than three days who seek information complimentary to their winery tours.

Very informative and the exhibits are also highly interactive. You can play and “sense” the exhibits through many ways. However, since you need to wait for others to finish their turns, it’s better to avoid weekends. Otherwise, you need to wait or give up on some parts. For wine tasting, there is a wide selection of wines. They also provide non-alcoholic grape juice. Those drinking options are all premium products. But they didn’t sell wine in the souvenir shops.

Pros: kid friendly, very educational, interactive, small enough to do in 1.5 hours (if rushing a bit), but still enough to keep you entertained.
Cons: it’s a bit of sensory overload, a LOT to take in within a little space, you pick and choose so more than likely you will not get to it all, the flow of it is a little disjointed with the open footprint of wander where you’d like.
The tasting at the top is really quite enjoyable with the views.
Wish we had more time, but this definitely feels like a museum one can return to more than once.

Booked to do the wine tasting class and the main exhibition. The wine tasting class was in French with an English audio guide which felt as if I could have probably done it by myself. Pretty short walk from the tram station to the museum. We first got in, scanned our tickets at reception and then everything was sorted. We were able to put our backpacks in the storage area. Some seating around the bottom to just chill in before going around. There is a ton of things to do in the museum. You first can start with a aerial video of winery, then can see the regions where they highlight differences and how they make the product. Then all different parts from the type of grape, to the different finished products to more movies and videos as well as a smelling section. Overall great museum, we spent 2 hours but you can definitely spend 3-4. There is also a nice balcony where you get your tasting too.

The creativity and modern technology, and thought that went into this beautiful museum of wine is an experience for your senses. The price is a bit steep... But the best thing was that the museum was very interactive... You get to smell fragrances, and animated storyline videos... Other than that, it was mostly videos. It wasn't the type that brought you into the wine cellar and showing tools used in the olden days to grind grapes type, equipment used, the traditional way of making wine etc... So it was just more modern understanding of making wine from different countries... The view from the top while sipping the wine is also a highlight
The Miroir d'eau, also known as the 'Water Mirror', is a large reflecting pool located in front of the Place de la Bourse in Paris. The 18th century landmark Place de la Bourse in Bordeaux is a large and beautiful public square with intricate architecture that was built to modernize the city. It is especially noted for its elegant marble facades and vast reflecting pool. Today, it houses the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
This is a wonderful place to visit. This square dates back to the 18th century and is symbolic of the beauty of Bordeaux. It is outside the original fortification walls of the city and is on a wide open space, next to the river Garonne. It is encircled by some amazing, historic buildings, it is the location of the Water Mirror and the views all around are magical. Just wonderful place to enjoy with your family.

Here at dusk, we saw loads of photographers and thinking it would evolve into some kind of fountain show, we waited, and waited as the water drained and returned.... I asked another 'watcher ' if anything else happened and he told me there was a fog to come - a bit later he said after googling it, that it had been cancelled through Covid and never reinstated so who knows 🤷♀️. When I visited Bordeaux's most famous buildings, some of it was under construction and there was no water in the fountain. That didn't ruin what was otherwise a memorable visit to the Place de la Bourse.

The Dune of Pilat is a remarkable natural feature located in La-Teste-de-Buch, Arcachon Bay, roughly 60 km from Bordeaux. Its height of 110m above sea level makes it the highest sand dune in Europe and distinguishes it from other dunes across the globe. It was surprising to see a mountain of sand since we expected quite flat dune with access to ocean but it was great experience to climb there anywhere. Lots of people so earlier hours is a better time to visit
Parking fee is minimum 6 euro for 4 hours, you can pay at the gate when leaving

An incredible natural phenomena! The massive dune squeezed between the sea and the forest is impressive. Be prepared for a bit of a climb, walking up and along the dune took a bit more effort than I had expected.

Beautiful and large. The entrance is quite steep, with the soft sand, it's getting harder to climb. Once you concured the slope, you will find an extremely beatiful sea shore and beach. It's a great place for a sunny day.

Impressive vistas from atop the Dune. Follow the most recent footprints to make the ascent easier (10-15 min at a steady pace). Stop to take in the view on the way up as, you climb above the tree line.

Amazingly high sand dunes. Great views over the ocean and forests. Perfect place for sunsets. Most busy part is where the parking spot is. Stray away and you’ll have space enough :)

gorgeous dune, for all sportive activities; don't underestimate the physical effort to climb it; but the view is stunning, especially sunset view

This should be in your top 3 must-visit destinations in France! The mini desert is incredible and can be a challenge to go up and down the sand. Being there at sunset is outstanding!

Best Sandy dunes in Europe, worth the detour and even a night stay in the area. Prepare yourself to hike a big Sandy Hill, but the view at the top is worth it. Way easier going down.

It's such a cool place to enjoy the sunset! It's my second time here, and the views are breathtaking. At the moment, you can still see the remains of last year's fires. But nature will regenrate for sure and the beautiful forest behind the dunes will be all green again. Climbing can be a bit physical, even if you take the stairs, but it's really worth it 😄

Amazing natural feature of nature. Climbing can be physical, 1 step up, 2 steps down. Barefoot is easier to climb. And fun. The view is amazing at the top of the dune.

A must stop if you are in the area. Plenty of parking and a few rip off takeaway outlets.
The views from the top of the dune are well worth the effort of getting to the top but I would recomend using the steps provided.
Andy Bro — Google review
Just... stunning. Really. ~15€/person for a ticket from Bordeaux to Arcachon and then to the Dune du Pilat was absolutely worth it for the trip up and down the dune as well as the surprising _lack_ of people relaxing at the beach, even though it was still quite hot when we went there! You can relax on the top/on the beach at the bottom, you can hike along the (massively long) dune and take in the view and do couple of other things (like paragliding) too.
TheOutrageousZ — Google review
This is a must see spot if you’re in the region. The parking was not too expensive (less than 8€) and the views were incredible. Good to bring a picnic blanket and be prepared for some wind coming up from the ocean. The beach is accessible, but it’s a long walk back up the dune. Definitely worth a visit in any case.

The National Museum and Château de Pau is a 14th-century castle museum that serves as Henry IV's birthplace. It features lavish interiors, tapestries, and artworks. Visitors can witness where the future king of France was born and baptized while admiring the 18 statues dedicated to him. Although tours are only available in French, guests can still appreciate the beautiful garden surrounding the castle for some quiet time with nature.
The garden is a good place to read a book and relaxing with the nature.

A very beautiful place and very important for visiting in pau.
It's so nice,
Their guide explains very well...
You can feel the short history of Henry IV and his childhood
Just in the weekend it is very important to know about their time because of the numbers of visitors maybe you have to wait a lot.

If you're a fan of Henry IV (and, well, who's not), then this is the castle for you! See where he was born (if you guess what animal is involved in cradling the head of the future king of France, you get 1000 bonus points). See where he was baptized. See 18 statues of him! But, seriously, the castle is very nice and a great visit!

Amazing piece of history and culture in the middle of the city centre. Worth the guided tour for a quick look into the past and how the castle was passed along from century to century.

Everyone working at this castle should be fired immediately! First, the QR code at the entrance leads to a dead site. Second, I was finally able to find the correct site to reserve the tour and received the email confirmation. Third, walked through the rain this morning and then arrived to a closed door! They are too lazy to work, so they shut the castle down without notice! How aggressively hostile do you have to be toward the people who pay your wages (the visitors) to not even bother to give advance notice, or at least send an email to those who have made the stupid reservations!?!? The level of inconsiderate behavior absolutely boggles the mind!

This castle saw the birth of Henry IV of France and III of Navarre. It is medieval in style and is in perfect condition. It can be visited inside, it is furnished and everything inside is worth seeing. It costs €7 to enter and those under 25 years of age are free. Outside there are some gardens that you can visit for free, they are not very big or spectacular, but it is not bad to walk through them.

We enjoyed our visit to this castle-museum. So many places we ventured to we had problems finding a place to park the car. Here there were parking spaces all over - a welcome difference.
We may have missed some details about the place as the tour was only in French. But we did read a lot of the signs in English and listening and watching the guide was entertaining. Even not being a French speaker I could definitely tell the difference between his French and the French I was used to hearing in Northern France. He was.... quite animated in his hand gestures.
The birthplace of Henry the IV and founder of the House of Bourbon if I recall correctly. Lots of materials and furniture on exhibit. I wonder though how much survived the Revolution as I had been told in another tour once that most castles were ransacked. No matter, it is all a very nicely laid out and maintained museum.

A gem in Pau! Where Henri IV, known as Henri de Bourbon, was born. He became king in 1572 and married The Queen Margot in August 18th. The castle is very well renovated, you can chill in the gardens with a spectacular view of Pyrénées...Charming city with an old town, located at 1h30 from the 'Cirque de Gavarnie' - one of the most beautiful place on earth for outdoor lover 😀

A visit to a place that includes passing between the different rooms requires about an hour and a half, if you visit the adjacent garden then a little more. Beautiful historic castle of Henry IV, and Queen Margarite (Queen Margot). One can feel the Tumultuous times of France in mid 16th century, against the magnificent backdrop of Pyrenees mountains.
The religious compound renowned for pilgrimage and healing in Lourdes comprises a complex of structures including a grotto, baths, and churches. The area's historical significance dates back to ancient times when it served as an oppidum hill during the Roman era. This is evident from various artifacts uncovered in the late 19th century, such as remnants of walls, fragments of a citadel, and a pagan temple devoted to water deities.
I was blessed to be able to visit during my last pilgrimage in France.
There is a daily Marian procession in the evening that's been happening for hundreds of years.
There are daily confessions in multiple languages in a building across the water so that's always available.
Pre-covid there is also an opportunity to be dunked in the water from the fountain but now it's just water poured from a jug that you wash yourself with.
It is definitely worth a visit for anyone in south west France, especially if you're Catholic.

I was overwhelmed by this precious, holy place! The architecture and artwork take your breath away. I was fortunate to pray in all 3 churches, the Grotto, walk the stations of the cross up the hill, attend mass and, of course, get the water. And all this was during Holy Week! A must see for everyone!

We went back to Lourdes crossing the Pyrenees mountains covered in fresh snow coming from Spain. We like to walk near the river from the entrance to the basílicas and the grotto. We were able to attend a Rosary for World peace in five languages. Each basilica has unique characteristics to explore. #AbuelosMochileros

Daily candlelight rosary procession at 9pm. Very touching processions. Masses held in various languages in the chapels and Basilica of Immaculate Conception, Basilica of the Rosary, etc. The grotto is beautiful and has Masses and rosaries said at the Grotto. Definitely worth the visit. Lots of shops selling religious, good quality items. Very friendly and safe place overall.

A once in a lifetime experience. We felt so blessed to have a the opportunity to visit this wonderful place despite the lengthy journey from Paris. I’ve been to other Marian sanctuaries including the Guadalupe and Fatima, yet enjoyed this one the most.
The Sanctuary is breathtaking and the minute you walk in you can feel the peace and beauty that lies inside. There were so many pilgrims yet everything was so well organized that at no point did we feel overwhelmed. The group of volunteers is unlike anything I’ve seen before and the main Basilique is astonishingly beautiful.
We enjoyed attending mass in the early morning - and were rejoiced to attend one in our native language on Saturday along with confessions. The visit to the Grotto was absolutely special and the evening procession can’t be put into words - something you have to experience to describe.
We stayed for two full days and three nights, which I highly recommend so you can absorb the experience without feeling rushed.

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Lourdes is one of the most important Catholic pilgrimage sites in the entire world. It is located in the south of France, where a local girl named Bernadette experienced a series of apparitions of the Virgin Mary during 1858. In the years that followed, a series of churches were built up around the Grotto where Bernadette had her visions, forming what is today the Sanctuary in Lourdes.
Just atop the grotto, you will find the highlight churches, the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception (1862-71) along with a Crypt (1866), which the Virgin Mary requested the people to build through St. Bernadette. This is also where you can visit the Byzantine style Basilica of Our Lady of Rosary (1899).
Other chapels and houses of worship line the outer grounds of the Sanctuary, including another major Basilica of St. Pius X (1958) which is uniquely built underground. There is an outdoor chapel of candles and hillside Way of the Cross walk amongst other points of interest.
Church services are held throughout the day at the various chapels and churches around the Sanctuary. Check online for service time and locations by language. You can also pick up a daily schedule at the Information Centre within the Sanctuary grounds.
While on the Sanctuary grounds, visitors can collect holy water from the grotto springs. It is believed that these waters contain healing powers. There are even bathing opportunities in the healing waters as well. Prayer candles can also be left at the chapel of candles. In the evenings, visitors can participate in a nightlight candle processions that are held daily during the warmer months of the year,
The Aquarium of Biarritz is a large and well-equipped facility with a wide variety of aquatic life from all around the world. It is home to sharks, rays, coral reef fish, and other sea creatures. Interesting mixture of aquarium and maritime museum. History of fishing and whaling is important to show the impact these have had. Spread across 5 levels. Good for families with kids. A few documentaries where screened during our visit. Amazing views from the rooftop and upper levels. Restaurant and cafe were closed when we visited though. Museum shop on site with branded products for kids and gifts for adults.

I enjoyed this much more than I believe I would have! So much to see and it was not crowded so we could really take our time enjoying all the aquariums and displays. I learned so much!! Don't worry if you don't speak or read French, you can read the English translations. And bonus, there's plenty to see right outside the aquarium!

I have to say that I was a little disappointed considering the ticket price and what was to see . The brightest point of the visit were turtles and some nice tanks with sharks but the rest was a mediocre experience which is a shame . The aquarium is way too small to display all the beauty of ocean life and there is not much experience for the kids to get them really interested since they can only look but not interact . They get bored pretty quick . There is not much else to share here I am afraid . If you visited aquariums in different countries , you can see the difference , if not , then probably you might find this one interesting .

Very friendly staff at reception - the woman who served us was very gentil and kind, by far the kindest person I have met in the Basque Country so far.
The aquarium was clean - they had a good display of the sea life and local history within their museum.
I would say, that it is very similar to the Atlantis in Dubai. Although you can’t touch any of the sea life and the animation wasn’t great…
Though I do recommend it.

The highlight of the aquarium in Biarritz is undoubtedly the last floor, where you can find a mesmerizing display of tropical fish. Very nice mid-sized aquarium right in the middle of Biarritz. Tickets are fairly priced. Good selection of displays including a large sized central fish tank and a seal enclosure. It was extremely busy when we went and the venue is completely enclosed and 98% of people were not wearing masks. Located in the province of Huesca, Spain, the Monasterio Nuevo de San Juan de la Peña is a monastery complex that dates back to the 10th and 17th centuries. This area holds significant cultural heritage with examples of Romanesque art and architectural treasures found in nearby towns. It is also part of the Way of Saint James pilgrims' route designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The origins of the monastery date back to the darkest early Middle Ages (10th century) when the craggy mountains served as a safe refuge for the Christian communities beset by the Moors. Covered by one of these enormous rocks, known as the “Monte Pano”, the first building was erected, to which further additions were made over the centuries. The exterior cloister is a gem of Aragonese Romanesque. After the original building was destroyed at the end of the 10th century, Sancho Mayor of Navarra refounded the monastery during the first third of the 11th century. So began its era of splendour, as the first Aragonese kings endowed it with numerous properties, power and influence. In the interior the following stand out: the pre-romanesque church, the 12th century paintings of San Cosme and San Damian, the so-called Noblemens’ Pantheon, the upper church which was consecrated in 1094 and the Gothic chapel of San Victorian. Other buildings constructed in later centuries also stand out, such as the Royal Pantheon, in Neoclassic style, erected in the last third of the 18th century.

We decided to take a slight detour to see this Monastery and boy it didn't disappoint!
Increadible views as we drove up, had to stop a couple of times to take it in.
We had a lovely warm and clear day so got some nice pictures with the drone as well.
We had a nice gentle walk round, lots of things to look at and read. Couldn't help but feel that some of the site has lost its authenticity due to the rather significant restoration and preservative measures that have been done since its renovation. Still highly recommend though.
Jon Thwaites — Google review
It amazes me how some people complain and give it a low rate because the road where the old monastery is, is dangerous, because it is in the mountain, because you have to get the tickets in the new monastery, and things like that. I do understand those who complain because the information in the new monastery is in Spanish. I didn't even notice, as I am Spanish and long ago made the effort to learn a bit of English for when I travel. I give it five stars because both monasteries are very interesting, the guide we had was very knowledgeable and communicated well. Go with time, so you can really enjoy both visits. We were on bycicles crossing Spain, and they kept the bikes for us while we saw both monasteries.
Fili V — Google review
So glad we went the drive up is incredible the views are just breathtaking. The new monastery looks very it of place but that's only because you pass the outside of the old first. Both are incredible buildings with such history attached to them. We purchased the book and took the audio guide round which made the experience better.

Not good at all. The pictures you see carved in the mountain is separate from the monastery three miles away in an uncomfortable location. The monastery itself is isolated and the road is dangerous and on the mountain.

This exquisite monastic building, where the grail was once supposed to be kept, (just copy on display now(see photo)) is cut into the rock on the side of a mountain. You can hike the twenty kilometres up from Jaca ( but bring lots of water in the summer as it's hot and humid) and its well worth the effort. Exterior has immaculate brickwork and windows while the inner church has an atmospheric apse and nave.
Stuart McCleane — Google review
Cashing in on a natural wonder! A 30 minute drive from Jaca - a wasted journey. You have to pay to even see the outside! They don't let you park and walk up to see the wonder of the boulder over the monastery. They make you drive all the way up to the new monastery and pay for entry and a shuttle bus to go back down to see it. And at €12 it's not worth it for us! Very disappointing! Tried to take photos so you can see it but sadly they didn't come out well.

Beautiful and really special. You can explore and discover how the monks used to live by walking over the remains of the monastery. White sculptures visually describe monastic life.
