Absolutely beautiful 😍 We had a blast going up to the 🔝! When we were there the elevator was not working so we climbed up the stairs. You need to be able to go up stairs for a good 5 - 10 minutes or maybe more! There is one spot that shows you a green light to go and a red light to stop 🛑 so the ones going the opposite direction can get through because it’s that TIGHT!! But once your up on the top you have an incredible view 😊
We went at sunset 🌅 that made it even more gorgeous! Although a little nerve wracking the beach view is spectacular! 🌟♥️🌟
We parked our RV here at the top of the hill no problem about a 5 minute walk from the church!
Meg ?Family Travel? — Google review
Architecturally, it is of Romanesque-Byzantine inspiration, fitting into the revivalist architecture that marked the turn of the century. Its imposing rose windows are the largest in the Iberian Peninsula and the second largest in Europe.
You can reach the top of the Monte de Santa Luzia by funicular (elevator), by car or by climbing the steps. This place dominates an important part of the Lima river valley and a large stretch of the seashore to the north and south of the estuary, as well as the green mountain range. This panorama has been rated by the National Geographic Magazine as the third most beautiful in the World.

The place where the famous duoro river begins, is also the mouth of the sea. The heart church of jesus located on the top of the mountain is a wonderful architectural place to visit. 15:00 every day everyone will pray together
bao tram nguyen — Google review
We drove all the way up in the car, so no opinion on how to get there using public transportation, which is excellent in Portugal.
We recommend cloudy day for not to be blinded ("overexposed") by the reflecting ocean.
Rose window nicely lights the interior. Smaller windows around the dome do not contribute as much.
There is a way to walk to the gallery around the dome, however, it was closed that day.
Consider donating a coin or two : all goes towards restoration
(a crowdfunding, of a sort).
Enjoy your visit!
Hope this helps.

Funicular was in maintenance, but the road up is in good condition, considering the natural terrain. Worth the visit, the basilica is beautiful and the view of Viana amazing, even on a rainy day.
elisa ferreira nunes — Google review
A beautiful place, not only for the sanctuary which is imposing. But also for its surroundings, where you can find a beautiful garden and even a quiet and beautiful park full of trees. It is good to go out of season to be able to appreciate the views and take good photos.
Usuario7 Service — Google review
Special, amazing and beautiful church. It has wonderful windows, colour in different colours. 360 degree amazing views over the town.
Silvia Ninova — Google review
Always taking centre place in any view of the city, this church (a fairly recent one, finished around 1954) provides a great viewing point of the surrounding lands and city below, while featuring a small interior, albeit dominated by rose windows and painted abode.
Quite a fair climb up to it, especially as the elevator was out of order at the time.
Up to you to decide if the view is worth it.
A Russo — Google review
An amazing view of the town and a lovely Basilica. The drive up is via a winding road and at the top there is parking. If you don’t have a car there is a Funicular from the town to the basilica. Reasonable priced. We parked at the top of the hill and went down to walk around the town - it worked out very well.

Really nice place with a beutiful view. You can reach it with cable car from city centre, or by car. Beautiful view on the ocean and city beach.

Nice views. Parking way on the top but it may be crowded during the weekend. You can also use the gondole to go up
Luci Pop — Google review
Another beutiful church perched on top of the hill with stunning views of the coast. Shame the venicular railway was not running but even better viewsd can be got from climbing the tower
Simon Waldron — Google review
Breathtaking. A must visit. One of the more beautiful overlooks I have seen. Located on a hilltop in the northern city of Viana do Castelo, overlooking the Lima river valley and the Atlantic coast. You can reach the sanctuary by car, by funicular (fun for the kids) or by climbing the steps from the city if you want a workout.
Gordon Naccarato — Google review
A very pleasant church to visit, one of the most attractive spots in the city of Viana do Castelo. The church is beautiful and it is possible to climb (paying) to the top. There is a cable car that takes people near the church, some souvenir shops, a picnic park, an amphitheater and an excellent viewpoint. Along with the Gil Eanes Hospital Ship and the costume museum, it is the most important place to visit in the city.
João Lourenço — Google review
Great views, charming atmosphere. I took my chances to use stairs instead of a tram to get here. If you want to do the same, get ready to sweat 😅
Anastasia P — Google review
An epic location for a cathedral. The trip to the top of the tower gives you 360 degree views on a clear day. The steps up will test you ;)

We were almost put off visiting this site as the cable car was closed. The climb was worth it though...beautiful views & even a wedding taking place.
The cafe up there was.also very good and much needed refueling after that climb...

Livraria Lello is a beautifully designed historic bookstore with an art nouveau exterior and a winding wooden staircase.
Whether or not you are a fan of Harry Potter, this bookstore is one of the must-visit places in Porto.
I would say that getting your ticket online is a MUST if you don't want to waste a lot of time in the queue. Seriously, the lines at this place are insane. When you book your ticket online you can select the time you want to enter and it is important that you are there at that time. Thanks to this you will be able to avoid the queues (at least we were able to avoid the queue the time we went thanks to this).
When you arrive at the site, tell them that you have reserved for X hour and they will tell you what to do.
The bookstore is beautiful, it looks like something out of a story. Of course, if you want to take a photo without people... good luck because it is practically impossible unless you arrive first thing in the morning.
Inside you can find a wide variety of books and also Portuguese literature. They have their own bookstore collection with some of the most iconic books, these having special covers and decoration. With your ticket you have a discount of 5 € to buy books (the price of the ticket).
In short, a must-see in Porto, as long as you book online and manage to avoid the queue, because if you don't, you will wait a long time in line, losing time for other activities that you can do in the city.
Gonzalo Mart?n Amador — Google review
One of a most visit place in Porto (that is what people often said). I have been in Portugal almost 3 years and never been inside of the place. I am just passing in front of it many times and the queue is always long.
Pros:
1. Parking accessible for wheelchair.
2. Entrance accessible for wheelchair.
3. Unique building with its decorations.
4. Informative staffs.
5. You can buy the ticket online.
6. You can buy book here.
Cons:
1. The queue is kind of long. Maybe it is better to visit in the end of the day to avoid the crowd.
Rita — Google review
It is certainly a beautiful library that mainly focuses in universal literature in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and French. It is a nice place to visit, despite the fact that it has become a bit of a tourist trap. You may have to wait in the line for hours to access to a library that’s full of people. The best time of the day to visit, is in the late afternoon, right before the place closes. It is also better to get your tickets online previously. If you love books, and have the time to spend in a line, you should visit this place.
David Escand?n — Google review
Wow. Full recommendation right away. It’s so worth visiting this place. Even just for the look. you don’t have to get one of the books there to appreciate how awesome it looks. And if you are a Harry Potter fan this is a must anyway. Just book online in advance and the waiting time is kept to a mere 10-15 minutes. Go see it!
A. Gregory Janiczek — Google review
This just might be the most beautiful bookstore in the world, but it is very hard to tell with the crush of people that visit every half hour. I do recommend booking your tickets online so you have the opportunity to see the beautiful architecture and book arrangements inside.
Happy Ox — Google review
Very pretty, but very busy place. You can take cute pictures on the staircase inside at the end of every 30 mins when most of the people left the library again according to the time windows. Only a few books can be bought with the gold ticket, mainly the small classics.
Helene Maas — Google review
Agreed it's one of the best bookstores in the world but it is too crowded for my liking. You can only book online. Take the last shift, 6:30 pm booking. Eight euros for entry and you get a discount if you buy books from them. The books are mostly in Portuguese but that's not a con. It's understandable. Folks go in and only care about getting themselves clicked. Staff super polite and kind. Also willing to visit. A one time visit (only because of the crowd).
Aarti Nair — Google review
The building's inside is very beautiful! The interior is outstanding from the handcrafted wood ceilings to the thoughtfully designed staircase. Despite the fact that you have to pay for a ticket in order to access the library, it seems to be always packed. The Library has a substantial collection of books. Definitely would visit for the wonderful experience. I suggest checking out the unique editions that the library has created if you're in the market for books.
Nicole Rosko — Google review
It is a beautiful store. Wish I had nore time but too crowded cant blame people for wanting to go. I wanted to enjoy the craftsmanship of the work in the walls and shelves. Its a work of art. Could not get great pics because of the crowd but seeing it was suffice!
Linda Franco — Google review
Beautifully designed. Total tourist trap.
Small book store with a very limited selection of books. Definitely caters to tourists with the book selection. €5 entrance charge but they do credit you that much if you purchase a book.
The stairway is beautiful but good luck getting a picture without someone posing on it.
The staff was very friendly.
Not really worth the wait in line if you are looking for an actual book and not just a social media post. But the staff was nice and it is beautiful inside.
Jeff White — Google review
It is a really nice place, indeed. Amazing architecture, nice set-up. We got our tickets online and booked the visit at 14:00. Even if the line was really long and we were somewhere in the middle, at 14:07 we enter the library.
A bit to crowded, but I think it was worth it. :)
Ioana Ursache — Google review
It is a beautiful library indeed, but not sure if it's worth the hassle to go in. Tickets are only €5 (must be bought online and make sure you do that in advance as they can get sold out quickly). The problem is the queue to get in and the amount of people inside at once. It's nearly impossible to enjoy or take a proper picture.
Books there are really expensive and can certainly be bought for a much better price anywhere else.
Arc?ngela Rocha — Google review
This book store is great. If you love or even just like Harry Poter then this place should be on your list to visit. Inside is stunning. There are soo many awesome "old school" books. Many different designs of HP books too.
Make sure buy your tickets online before.
Roy — Google review
If you like Harry Potter then if you are in Porto this book shop is a must visit book in advance as this place is very busy. Tours start about every 30 minutes. There are plenty of choices of books for all ages in all genres but they are no cheap if you are looking to buy one as gift but overall really good..
Derrick Lee — Google review
What a highlight when in Porto ! Definitely buy tickets online before going, and expect lineups, even with a scheduled time. It is well worth a bit of a wait.
We arrived 1/2 hour earlier and there were lots of people already in line.
Everyone does get in, though, and it's a photographer's delight. With a grand staircase and beautiful wood bookcases filled with old books, it's a great way to spend an hour. Of course, Harry Potter fans will love this place.
Travelling Gourmets — Google review
You should definitely make a reservation. And please buy the ticket, which is 15.90€. They cannot manage capacity. And overcrowded you waiting long time probably. The most suitable books are 15.90€, so pay this fee, buy books and get fast entry. It's a pretty nice place inside, worth a trip. Decorations and art details are great. I’m sure that you feel like you're in a magical place. Staircase is so nice to take a photo. Visit for a great experience. If you're looking to buy books, I'd recommend the special editions that this place has made themselves.
Anıl KARADAVUT — Google review
The book store that inspired Harry Potter is worth the time while visiting Porto. Get your tickets online is the best way to get in. Be prepared to wait in line. It took us around 20 minutes to get inside. Once inside marvel at the amazing architecture and pick up a book to take with you!
Chad Schallick — Google review
A phenomenal place to visit! You get back in time in a place that has all the bells and whistles! Every detail is amazing - from the central staircase to the ceiling and side columns! Soak up the atmosphere of the grandeur of past times... They do have some organization in place but it is still quite crowded! €5 to get in which goes towards your purchase if you buy a book. I would highly recommend making that ticket purchase online and prior to getting there because the line is quite long. The online purchase puts you on the shorter- fast track line. The prints are elegant with gold finishes - they make a great gift! You can also pick a recipe book or a city guide with amazing photos! I would highly recommend this place!
Dessie Hristov — Google review
it's a beautiful library for sure! but it's way too busy, I think they just sell too many tickets at the specific time times. It's easy to buy online, cost 5€ and you get those discounted of any book you buy. You walk in at the time frame that you bought for, people makes line but I thought what for if it'll be same busy inside no matter what. Enjoy it but be aware of how busy it'll be
margo torres — Google review
A unique bookstore in Porto, the wooden staircase is beautiful and very much Harry Potter inspired. Truly a must see when in Porto. Book tickets online as time slots are allocated. It attracts a lot of people and the line is long. Still worth the visit.
Jenny Magee — Google review
This is an absolute must-see in Porto, especially if you're a book lover! The tickets can be bought in advance or at the entrance via QR code so you can secure your time slot. We got the option that is €8 p/person and gives you a discount on a purchase. I got a book that was originally €15 for just €8. It didn't take more than 15minutes to get inside, and it had a wide variety of books in many languages, cool merchandise, and beautiful decor.
Gio Ribeiro — Google review
The building is amazing and the books are flashy and attractive. But the quality of the books is incredibly low and the number of people insight is just spoiling the experience. I really hoped that the books would be of a good quality but I just feel cheated. All the books I got are somehow badly printed.
Diana Esaian — Google review
Livraria Lello is absolutely enchanting, like a wizard's library straight out of a magical world! The staircase and book arrangement add a whimsical touch, making it a dream spot for book lovers. Kids were over the moon, rating it 10 out of 10 magical stars! 📚✨
Tickets cost about €8 per head online.
On the downside, the long queue even on a rainy day and the bustling crowds inside were a bit of a dampener. The queue is long for online purchased time slot tickets. Despite that, the magical vibes made it a memorable experience for all.
A R C — Google review
If you’re a fan of books or architecture then this is a must visit location for you in Porto. It’s worth every second of queuing. You must book tickets online for a certain time slot. Do not make the mistake of not booking as they turn people away. Take your time once you’re in the shop and look around properly. Some books are mixed languages around the shop. The staff are very helpful. They have some of their own special editions which are beautiful. Do not visit Porto without stopping here.
Baking Bar — Google review
Amazing book shop (not a library), it is very hard to find the quiet time, there is always huge queue. It is quite handy to buy tickets online, but voucher can only be used on books not on merchandise (hope in the future they change it). I would have enjoyed it way more if we could able to catch a quite time, but overall it is a magical must see place of Porto.
Yağmur Turgut Birer — Google review
An interesting experience that would be a shame to miss. It's a pity that the history and architectural feats of the bookshop itself have been overshadowed by the Harry Potter shop. If you can, buy a golden ticket for the opening, because then you only have a chance to take a quick photo and look around, after 10 minutes you'll be swept away by the flood. I hope there will be a publication in Hungarian one day ...
Sándor Kerekes — Google review
The bookshop is stunning but it’s very, very crowded, quite small and so busy that it really doesn’t feel worth the ticket price to get shoved around it for ten mins just to take a photo of the amazing decor. You are meant to be able to use the tickets to get discount on any books bought but we were only allowed to use one of our three tickets when buying.
Tiernan Douieb — Google review
A huge range of books (English, French and Portuguese), and the editions made in store have beautiful design art and covers. It's worth the price, in my opinion. The place was extremely busy and felt a little cramped at times. Staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. The architecture was gorgeous; it was worth a visit just for the view of the stairs & ceiling. The cost to get in is €8pp (book online and scan the ticket to enter), but you can redeem the cost against any book you buy per person.
Aisling Siobhan — Google review
Highly recommend to buy golden tickets (priority ticket), the silver ticket has a very very long line even if it has the time reserved. You can buy the bookstore’s special pocket series of books with the same ticket (15.9 euro). The staffs are so friendly despite the place is packed with tourists.
L C — Google review
Yes, it’s a super pretty bookstore! And the personnel was very helpful. The downside is how busy it is. It kinda ruins the experience. Also, the entrance is 8€ per person but the good thing is that you can get that as a discount when you buy a book. 📚😊 Book a time slot before you visit!
Christina Parpoula — Google review
Exquisitely beautiful bookshop near a modern shopping area and in the historic centre. I had previously read that people found it overpriced, but I thought the book prices were average (certainly wouldn’t get them cheaper in the UK), and your ticket into the building gets redeemed against a book of your choice. Books could be bought in Portuguese, French and English, no doubt Spanish too but I didn’t see any of those books. They had beautiful printed classics and the staff were helpful. Main downside is that because it’s so touristy it’s difficult to move around, especially with people stopping to pose on the staircase, and your time in the bookshop is somewhat limited.
Quick and easy means of transport. 5 eur a round trip. Takes about 2minutes incl embarkation. People are friendly and the boat is new and clean.

Hard to say anything about it other than It's a quick way across the river if you can't be bothered to walk via the bridge and you can afford the fare. The boats are nothing special.
The imposing Clerigos Tower dominates the skyline of Porto, and is a prominent landmark in the city. The tower is made of granite and has 240 steps that must be climbed to reach the top. The church itself is located on Avenida dos Aliados, a busy street in the center of town. The church is a popular tourist destination, and it contains an impressive altarpiece as well as a bell tower that is a symbol of Porto.
The church and tower sits on the top of a hill with the church in the front and the tower at the back. Entering the church is free. The church was designed by an Italian architect. The marble columns, the gilded Deco and sculptures are gorgeous. If you pay a fee to climb the tower, on the way you will get a chance to see the church from the ceiling angle, and get a closer look at the altar.
Aggie Wang — Google review
A cool tower with a magnificent church and nice museum inside. Climbing up to the tower you can see the city with a 360 degree view. However, the information board is incorrect in stating that Taipei 101 is in China. It is In Taipei, Taiwan. 🇹🇼

Beautiful museum and the view from top of the tower is incredible. There is a ticket of 6 euro per person. The museum has some really interesting articles related to brotherhood of clergy.
There are a lot of stairs to climb for the top of tower.

The church was very nice with a nice museum set up inside. Another lovely piece of history.
We pre purchased ticks which skipped the small line up.

The experience was one of a kind. You need to take more than 200 steps all the way up to reach the tower and the view on top is breathtaking! I highly recommend this! 👌
Dill Viejo — Google review
The tower great way to see Porto from above. The church is really pretty and there is a small museum with Catholic art and relics before you attempt to climb the tower. The stairs are a little steep and the stairwell is narrow, so it might be difficult to climb up if you're a bigger person or someone who has a phobia of tight spaces but the view is lovely and worth the effort.

A Porto must see. The views from the tower are amazing !
Dan Kunstman — Google review
A very pleasant church. We visited on a Sunday and happened upon a concert and an exhibition. If you come across such a combination, it's worth to sit down and just lose yourself in beautiful music. There is a nice little shop at the back of the church. Unfortunately, we did not visit the tower.
Katarzyna Waszczuk — Google review
Beautiful church and the view from the Tower is great. Another place that lacks a bit of context and more historical facts on the many rooms you go through. They could do a better job at controlling access to the highest parts of the Tower. It starts to get messy with people going up and down. And at the peak you barely have space to move as no one is controlling how many people get up there. The view is great, tho!
Also, the security guard at the entrance was poorly and did not show a lot of respect for the tourists.
F?bio Arcanjo — Google review
Really great spot to check out while in Porto. Definitely pay for the tower tour to get some amazing views of the city and snap a few nice pics. You can also pickup some nice gifts at their store.
Arsalan E — Google review
Amazing view from the top of the tower but be prepared to stop on the stairs to let people pass on their way down or up. It's a small passageway! Gorgeous church!
Kat L. — Google review
This surely is a landmark in Porto and a must-see. Built between 1732 - 1750. The unique and impressive tower at the back of the church was built between 1754 and 1763. The tower is 75.6 metres high and there are 240 steps to be climbed to reach the top.
And if you're lucky about timing, you can enjoy the nice bells ringing.
A wonderful piece of art and architecture. Nice to take some pics - even though the angle is a tough one to get a really good pic. But as usual it's best to see with your own eyes and to enjoy the beauty of it.
It's located on top of a hill. Nothing tough, but may be a bit difficult with wheelchair or stroller. The old town center of Porto can easily be done by foot. We just did the Rua Santa Catarina, Rua das Flores and then headed here. Makes a nice walk.
Alex Haas — Google review
A beautiful church with a tower that affords gorgeous views of the city of Porto. Entering the church is free but to climb the tower there is a charge and it's well worth it.
In the tourist season this place is very crowded so best to get the tickets in advance
Bharathi Mani — Google review
Lovely place to visit night and day. The tower: stairs are not wide so best to go when not busy. Lovely views from the top. We brought a dual ticket which worked out cheaper with the museum.
The church at night has the light show which is very impressive and is 10 euros.
Jane Stone — Google review
To the person who said it’s not as claustrophobic as other towers to climb, I can only assume you either are a UK size 0, or just aren’t fully aware of your surroundings. I’ve climbed plenty of Scottish castles and I found this worse personally, but that didn’t mean that I didn’t ultimately enjoy it when I reached the top, and I even got (obviously by paying for it) a fun green screen edited picture of me falling off of it (let’s assume it was a greenscreen shot anyway…)
The church is beautiful too, gorgeous pink marble (I think?) lining some of the walls and ceiling. I didn’t realise until the end of the tower and museum part that you can go into the church by itself without having to climb the tower. It was only €5 anyway for a ticket which I thought was good value, and there was lots of stuff as part of the museum aspect about the brotherhood etc.
Can also confirm that I have never seen so many Jesus’ all in one place before. I also appreciated they wanted to compare the height of this tower with the Chrysler Building (and others).
Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area, but just be aware there isn’t any lift up to the top of the tower.

Buy tickets online beforehand. Don't wait in line, it takes very long and you don't know when the next time slot will be available.
The church itself is pretty nice, and it's cool to have a behind the scenes look at everything. The view from the tower is really very cool of course, but sadly it is very very busy at the top and on the way there. There's not a lot of space, because the tower was of course never made for tourist visits. You also cannot see the Ponte Luís I. Still definitely worth a visit!
Sander ten Caat — Google review
Great views from the top, really enjoyed it, spent at least 30 mins at the top. Getting there takes a while because they obviously plan the route thoroughly through the church to see the museum-like rooms, chapel itself, and a green screen picture stop

This is a classic beautiful church. Unfortunately by 8 AM it is crowded with tourists. They’re not there to look at the church but rather take selfies. If you really wanna enjoy the church, get tickets in advance and enjoy them. Beautiful interior.

It looked beautiful from the outside but we didn't pay money to climb the tower. We went to a nearby hotel that had better than views on their roof terrace

Cais da Ribeira is a historic and picturesque quarter in Porto located next to the river. It is renowned for its riverside promenade with terrace restaurants and bars below tall, colorful townhouses. The area is bustling with cafes, restaurants, and shops that offer fresh seafood as well as other delightful dining options. Visiting this part of Porto is a must-see when exploring the city's historical center.
One of the most beautiful places in Porto.

Touristy but a must do! There are a lot of street musicians and cafes. The views of the bridge are also spectacular. (submitting some videos from very talented musicians we found!)

If you do anything in Porto, walk this bridge from the bottom, walk along the shoreline and view the port factories and restaurants, take the cable car back to the top, go to the lookout, and walk back across to downtown on the upper level.
Our Airbnb was downtown and we didn't actually really like it terribly much because it was so, so touristy and busy. When we got to the other side by walking the bridge, however, our perspective changed completely. I would also recommend the 1-hour river tour, and there are several, and not expensive, to get a broader view of the city from the inside out, so to speak.

Luís I Bridge is an iconic arched bridge in Porto, connecting the city to Vila Nova de Gaia. It carries a low-level road and a high-level metro line, offering stunning views of the surrounding area. The route along the bridge includes notable landmarks such as Praca da Liberdade, Torre dos Clerigos, Livraria Lello bookshop, and more.
It’s one of most beautiful locations in Porto hence a must visit. Take a walk on the bridge and do a cable car, costs €6 per ticket and have a nice walk along the river with plenty of options to eat and drink. You can come back through the cable car by buying a return ticket for €9. It becomes really beautiful during the sunset time.
Rishi M — Google review
This bridge. It’s just stunning. Its like the centre piece in an art gallery. It ties the city together. Quite literally. There is no path by it. You will cross it a lot, either on food or in the Metro. And you’ll love it. What a mere steel structure can conjure up is simply amazing. Can’t miss in any list in Porto. 100% Full recommendation! 👌🏽🤩
A. Gregory Janiczek — Google review
This bridge is magnificent. You can walk both on the upper deck or the lower deck. On the upper deck there also goes the tram. The view is very good and you overlook the whole city alongside the Duoro River. Walking on this bridge gives you a very pleasant feeling. Highly recommend to take a talk on both levels of this bridge.
Mengyang Liu — Google review
A beautiful walk along the bridge. Such a gorgeous view with scenery to match. Well built and kept quite clean. It was quite windy when we went and it was a strong wind so can be a bit daunting but otherwise a completely fun experience.
Dee — Google review
This is the most beautiful attraction in Porto. When you walk along the top of the bridge, the height seems prohibitive, the view of the city on the river and the trams that rush past is wonderful. The only moment the bridge is partially under reconstruction now, and almost half of the lower part is covered with building films.
Yevheniia Vishnevskaia — Google review
This is another great piece of architecture in Porto and a definitive must-see and do. If you want to cross the river Douro, then this is a great way to do so. Be it on the lower level or on the top level.
For the amazing city views of course you should head to the top. There are some cable-cars passing the bridge. But not very frequently, so there's a lot of space, even though full with visitors. There's always a gap to be found to take in the views or to take some pics.
At its construction, its 172 metres span was the longest of its type in the world. The construction was to be administered by Théophile Seyrig, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel. It was inaugurated on October 31st, 1886.
There are many reasons to come to this bridge. The city views, the river Douro views. Or for the bridge itself and its stunning architecture and history.
Alex Haas — Google review
Definitely a landmark to visit in Porto, especially at sunset. Great view over the river and parts of the town. Refreshing breeze at the top. Nearby orange trees give a lovely fragrance.
Francois Rouffet — Google review
Beautiful piece of engineering. The heart of Porto where you can go by walk and enjoy the view. It is quite windy here and if you don't like heights, better to take the metro to get to the other side. But if you visit Porto, going on this bridge is almost duty. :)
Michal Polák — Google review
The absolute best way to get from Porto city centre to the south side of the Douro River. You are sharing the narrow bridge with other pedestrians, bikes and trams, so stay alert. Additionally, the railing is surprisingly short for the height of the bridge: if you suffer from vertigo, do not take this route!
Mark Wendorf — Google review
It's a must visit place in Porto, and as a pedestrian crossing the top level with trams and sidewalks. On either side and especially to the south you can walk to viewing points to look back and marvel at the engineering, design and beauty of the bridge. From the top of the bridge, you can get good views of Porto, the south and the Douro river that separates them.
The bottom level is currently closed off to cars, and pedestrians are directed to one way lanes to cross that have limited areas of viewing.

You cannot miss the famous Luis Bridge when you are in Porto, Its their icon. This place is bustling with life, there are lots of people and sunshine. I enjoy sitting by the river bank watching people and the world goes by.

Great views both day and night. It’s a lot less crowded at night even though the view is equally impressive, but it still wasn’t too busy around noon. Walking along the top and the bottom levels is a must. You can also view the Luís I from the other bridges.
Sam E. — Google review
We walked across the lower level of the bridge, from Porto to Gaia, and then, after doing a bus tour, we walked across the top back to Porto. On the lower level, you can admire the river boats and look up to the buildings. From the top, it was honestly stunning views, but it was absolutely terrifying to realize how high you truly are (my dad carried my daughter on his shoulders all the way across....I, of course, was mortified).😱🫣 I never thought I was scared of heights until I was on top of this bridge.😅 The top of the bridge is only accessible by foot traffic or tram (train?). Vehicles, such as cars and buses, are prohibited.
C O — Google review
Views of the bridge and from the bridge are spectacular. Same architect Gustavo Eiffel as in Paris’ Eiffel Tower and you can see same metal constructions there. Convenient pedestrian and car links on both upper and lower levels.
Mike Z — Google review
Stunning view and sophisticated design for a beautiful and distinctive landmark in Porto! The landmark was designed by Gustavo Eiffel, the same French civil engineer who has designed Eiffel Tower. The bridge represents a unique architectural landmark in the port which emphasizes the touristic value and increase the city image potential for visitors and tourists. We have really enjoyed the view at different times during the day and night, however, the sunset view over there is out of this world. Whether you were at the lower or the higher level of the bridge, the view and vibes are just stunning and very beautiful. A great homogeneous design within the whole surroundings contexts, especially the cultural and geographical ones. The bridge increases the connectivity between Porto two parts and motivates more pedestrians.
Ibrahim Hajjar — Google review
This bridge, which is the heart of Porto, is beautiful both at night and during the day. There are pedestrian paths and tram & car roads on both the lower and upper floors. It's great to have a bird's eye view of the Douro River
serdar barcin — Google review
This iron bridge is absolutely beautiful. It has two levels, the lower level allows pedestrians to walk cross. On the up level trams slowly move cross. I have crossed the bridge twice. Once I walked. It took me less than 10 minutes. The view from the bridge looking down the cute houses along the riverbank was amazing. The second day I took the tram. The tram stops right after passing the bridge. There is a small park there. I recommend doing both way to fully appreciate the bridge.
Aggie Wang — Google review
Beautiful bridge across the Douro river. The upper part connects old Town Porto with Gaia, and the lower part leads to the wine makers. But the sidewalks are narrow and be careful so the tram doesn't hit you.
Christian Alexandre Kramer — Google review
Pretty bridge with two crossings on it. The top level which is where the tram runs, and the bottom which is more convenient for the riverside pedestrians on both sides of the river.
Pretty during the day, gorgeous at night.
Vincent Mok — Google review
Luis I Bridge was built by Eiffel’s student. What a great student he must have been. The bridge is set over two levels. The lower bridge for cars and the upper bridge for tram and pedestrians. The funicular is to one end of the bridge.
It is an unmissable attraction when visiting Porto.
Great place to catch sunset and sunrise.
My pictures are from an older camera which hopefully captures these images in a different light.
Another great way to capture the bridge is from the Gaia cable car.
The views from the bridge are unrivalled.
The historic and bi-level market in a neoclassical building, Mercado do Bolhão, is one of the best places to buy fresh produce and food in Porto. It is particularly popular on weekends when it bursts with activity. Across the road is Mercado de Bolhao, the former city market which retains its authentically bohemian feel.
Such a great place to buy fresh products and fish 🐟 it has stalls for chocolates 🍫, wine 🍷, meat 🥩 , fish 🐠 and many more. It looks like a tourist attraction from the first sight but it is in fact for locals. So good to see people having tapas and with a bit of 🍷

Lovely market in a convenient location in the middle of Porto. It's mainly food products like meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, baked goods, fruit, sweets and some souvenirs. It's aimed at tourists but there is nothing wrong with that and there are many locals who shop there as well. All the products are top quality and very nicely arranged. The prices are similar to what you will find elsewhere in Porto. The sellers are very friendly and most of them speak English so it's easier to shop. The market has gone through extensive renovations and it looks beautiful. This is a great place to shop and to come and sample some of the great food that this city has to offer.

For a fun informal lunch, do consider coming here. You can pick up cheeses, meats, tapas, fruit and all sorts of local delicacies and fresh foods, all available to be eaten here, or taken home to enjoy later. This also includes a nice wine, beer, port or freshly made juice. Grab some food, wander the stalls and pick up few bargains. P.s. Did I mention it is the cleanest markets I’ve ever been to? High recommend for any visitor to Porto!

The open market in Porto stands out for its impeccable cleanliness and vibrant atmosphere. Offering a diverse selection of food and Port tasting options, it's a haven for culinary enthusiasts. From fresh fruits to delectable seafood, there's something to tempt every palate. During my visit, I couldn't resist purchasing some savory sausage and a few bottles of Port to bring back home as souvenirs.

The orginal place is closed for renovation. The market is moved to La Vie mall (where decathlon is). Market is clean. There are stalls for dry food, fruits, fresh seafood, frozen seafood, flowers and also some eating stalls.
Check out the variety of nuts and dried preserved fruits, cheap & good!

A delightful and pristine market offering a variety of fresh produce, meat, fish, and flowers. Bolhão Market has gained popularity as a tourist hotspot, and you'll also come across souvenir shops selling chocolates and canned fish. Keep in mind that if you plan to visit on a Sunday, note that the majority of the shops will be closed.

This place is fabulous or horrible, depending on your tolerance for crowds and your patience level. Definitely check the map listing to suss out less popular times to visit. If you do that (and also bring your patience; it always seems pretty busy), you’re likely to really enjoy it. Def a great place for a light lunch or to try cheeses, wines, sardines and etc!

The market has been beautifully restored and houses a wonderful array of fresh local produce and delicatessen products. This is most definitely worth the visit. Go hungry so you can enjoy some of the food and drinks on offer. Bolhão Market has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. It has been a bustling marketplace for generations and is considered one of Porto's most emblematic markets. The market building itself is a notable example of neoclassical architecture. Its distinctive facade, featuring a large wrought-iron entrance, adds to the market's charm. The market is home to a variety of stalls selling fresh produce, meats, seafood, flowers, and traditional Portuguese products. It's a great place to explore local flavors and ingredients.
Bolhão Market is a fantastic spot to purchase authentic Portuguese goods, including cheeses, cured meats, fresh fruits, and regional specialties. Vendors often offer tastings, allowing visitors to sample local products..
Within and around Bolhão Market, there are also small cafes and eateries where visitors can enjoy traditional Portuguese dishes. These places often provide a cozy setting to savor local flavors.
Bolhão Market is not just a marketplace; it's a cultural and historical landmark that reflects the city's traditions and the importance of local markets in Portuguese culture.
Bolhão Market has long been a must-visit for both locals and tourists seeking an authentic market experience. While the market has faced challenges and discussions about its future, it remains an integral part of Porto's cultural and culinary identity.

The market is clean and spacious.
I found it eye opening , since it display a lot of fresh oyster, sea urchin , shrimp that you can order a platter and eat right on the spot!
There are pasta cooked right on spot as well , needless to say sandwich , bakery , fresh produce, even tartar ( raw beef )
There are a few rows of tables at the entrance where you can sit down and enjoy the food.
This is a fun place for people who wants to sample different food and drinks.
For a relax meal , I recommend to take the elevator to the third floor to enjoy sit down meal, price is comparable and a lot more relax.

A really interesting place. Old market where you can feel the vibes of the city and it’s locals.
It has a bit of everything, fruits, vegetables, fish, a couple restaurants and souvenir shops as well where the souvenirs have an affordable price.
A cute mug was only 3€ there.
I recommend to spend a few minutes walking around it, and also going to the second floor if you access through the main one to have a different point of view.

This is definitely worth visiting.
They have several stalls with fresh produce, and typical food from Portugal.
You can find a bit everything: the typical delicious canned food (e.g. sardines, seafood), dried and crystallized fruits, an amazing selection of mushrooms, a good assortment of olives, cheeses from different regions in Portugal, fresh fruits (some very good options to eat on the go), flowers…
It is a great place to go to buy great souvenirs from Portugal, it is a bit pricier than in other places in the city, but if you are short in time, then this is a good place where you can find a bit of everything

Great food! Great prices, lot of diversity and delicious stuff to try. I had a couple special desserts from Porto, a cappuccino and other stuff for brunch. You can also get fresh fruit, juice, pantries and more! Everybody is super nice and they would help you if you need anything! The only downside is that the place is usually packed with people, and it would be difficult to find a spot to sit down and eat, but overall, a great experience!

I was able to visit this historic market in the evening and it is a wonderful place. From fruit to seafood, from cheese to wine. You can walk with your glass and cheese plate in your hand, browse the stalls and shop. Or you can have your pasta prepared in the wheel of cheese and go to the stall with olives. There are also stalls selling birch and flowers. You can have a chocolate crepe prepared or try local flavors from the mini bakery. The cheese and seafood stalls were my favorite... by the way, there are tables and stools at the entrance of the market, if you are lucky you may come across an empty one.

This place is more of a tourist attraction than a local market. The products offered are tailored specifically for tourists, and you can buy some souvenirs typical of Portugal here.
The gastronomic offer is very poor, only a few places offer only snacks. There are also no benches or tables where you could sit and relax.
But of course still worth a visit.

A very nice market, well designed, well organized, and clean. There are restaurants on the second floor for those who want to eat something in the market area. I should not forget to mention the variety which is good and offer different things. We had some small vegetable snacks and enjoyed them. There are tables and chairs for those who want to have a seat and enjoy their meal. One thing that got my attention was their small packages of products for those who wanna have a bite, which was interesting. You can also have a glass of wine and give back the glass afterward. The only thing that surprised me was the high prices, normally two times more expensive than normal, and this is the reason we did not buy much. The restrooms are available too, which is a comfort. I hope this review helps you. Thank you team Mercado Do Bolhao

The organic market is a beautiful place for strolling, shopping, and grabbing a bite to eat. Both the stalls and the atmosphere are lovely, and we generally had a pleasant time. I highly recommend a visit to this market in Porto. However, be cautious of vendors selling non-fresh seafood, and steer clear of them. Due to this issue, I'm giving this place a low rating. I'll explain the details below.
According to the direction of the entrance to the market, there are two carpaccio vendors on the left side. I especially recommend the first one. The stall is operated by a couple. Both the lady and the gentleman are good at their jobs, attentive, cheerful, and polite. We actually wanted to try deer carpaccio, but unfortunately, they were out of stock. We tried their beef carpaccio, and it was delicious. We liked it so much that we ordered another portion.
I'd like to highlight two important points. I hope the municipal subsidiary company GO Porto takes these into account.
Firstly, there's a stand right in the middle selling fried cheese, which creates a smell pollution not present at any other stall and tarnishes the market. We noticed that many people, including ourselves, were bothered by this smell. Due to our discomfort, we couldn't even approach the other stalls near this vendor. So, there's a situation where visitors are disturbed and other stall owners' business is hindered.
Secondly, and most importantly, my spouse experienced food poisoning, and we believe it was due to the seafood vendor at your market. When we checked the reviews, we noticed that several people complained of the same issue on the same dates. Furthermore, there have been similar complaints on other dates as well. This issue is serious and requires urgent attention. Negligence on your part is unacceptable.
Bom Jesus do Monte is a beautiful neoclassical sanctuary located in the outskirts of Braga. The main attraction here is the staircase that leads up to the hilltop pilgrimage site, which is breathtakingly scenic and worth visiting if you're in the area.
This is the number 1 reason we came to visit Braga and it didn't disappoint. From the train station we took bus #2 ($1.55) to the end, then took the funicular/elevator ($1.5) to the top. We walked down and took tons of pictures of the stairs. Total visit time was about 90 minutes. Bus#2 again to the old town was easy and relaxing.

Very colorful, beautiful, pretty sanctuary. Amazing city views from the top. There is also an elevator to go up and down. It hardly take 1 min and it's 1.5 euro. I was not much amused by elevator because there is no views. But the sanctuary is very big and extremely beautiful. There is also a lake. You can ride the boat yourself in just 1.5 euro per person.

Stunning views from this gorgeous church. Lovely walks, gardens and a big park a little further up. Very unusual alter scene showing Roman soldiers. The interior is very beautiful. Nice gift shop next door with a good range of both religious & non religious items.
Lili Rehak — Google review
During our family visit to Bom Jesus do Monte, we were fortunate to go on a rainy day, which helped reduce the crowds. Although there were a lot of stairs to climb, the experience was made more engaging by the dioramas depicting the life of Jesus at each landing, which provided interesting breaks during the ascent.
One of the highlights was the fact that parking and entering the church were both free, which made the visit more accessible for us. Despite the rain, the beauty of the surroundings and the peaceful atmosphere made it a memorable experience for the whole family.
Overall, Bom Jesus do Monte offers a meaningful and enjoyable outing for families, with its blend of religious significance, scenic views, and architectural beauty.

A must-see site. The views of Braga from here are stunning. It might seem hard to climb the stairs, but their are not hard to tackle and, if you have physical problems, you can always take the funicular up and down hill (they only take cash). I've wanted to see this amazing place for years. Today on a bus tour from Porto my wish was fulfilled. We arrived with our bus tour at the church. Walked down all 700 steps and up again. The little fountains along the stairs are intriguing. 1 spouts water from her eyes, another from his nose, another from his mouth. I have no idea what the story is behind this.

Bom Jesus do Monte is a great place for a day trip. It is one of the best places to see in Braga. The view of the city is breathtaking and there are many sights to discover as well as a large park with a playground for children and places to rest, perfect for a picnic.
I recommend it to anyone who wants to have a great view of the city (maybe at night) and enjoy the place. There is a paid toilet here behind Bom Jesus church (€0,50) and on the right side, behind the church, if you go up the small hidden path, there is a free toilet.
The park offers a small lake, here you can rent a boat. There is also a cafe, an ice cream parlor and a small outdoor fitness park as well as the playground.

This was a very unexpectedly wonderful visit. The site is a religious place and the sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte is beautiful and impressive in size.
Even if you are not a believer like myself I would recommend stopping here. Apart from the sanctuary which is worth the visit on its own, there are other beautiful areas nearby.
We spent around an hour and a half wandering around as it was pretty relaxing and we visited early in the morning when not many people were around. We parked our car in the parking lot close to the sanctuary but if you feel you can walk you can park for free and walk your way up to the sanctuary (there is also an elevator taking you up from there as well)
Happy we stopped here!

Beautiful beautiful beautiful ! It is populated by tourists yes but should that stop you from visiting no ! Locals will complain about this problem but I could see past it and appreciated the amazing architectures and gardens. It’s a place you want to stay a bit and take in. There’s drink and restroom available me at the top. Getting to the top is recommended by the fun old “funicular” lift (you need cash) and walk down to the bottom via the stairs.

Best place you can visit in Braga. It's free to visit a huge site, but it's a bit lengthy to get there. Braga as a city doesn't offer much, but this place is a must. Go to the top via car or the elevator and walk down all the way down. It's definitely worth it.

If you read the other reviews, you will know that the architecture and the grounds are stunning. Because it's old, you will see the effects of the years on the property and structures. The best time to visit is in winter. A ride early. I'm going to crowds. You saw the YouTube videos or maybe a travel show about this place? It does not compare to being here.

It was a really nice experience to visit there… I’d recommend if you are in Braga 2 days or more, or if you travel by car. Otherwise it is not worth it. The city bus takes around 40 mind each way and it was not on time! Also there are LOT more stairs up there that you don’t see in the pictures. And the cable car was expensive.

Great experience! My suggestion is to climb all the stairs, great view of the city and nice to stop and check all the small chapels with catholic representation.
Church well manteined, stunning interior, absolutely worth seeing. Nice garden outside
Completely free of charge.

One of the greatest sanctuaries I've ever been to!
A must-visit!
There are beautiful details about it and about the architecture and fountains and I suggest reading about it before visiting the place to enjoy every step you take in that great place.
I, also, suggest going in winter or spring but absolutely not in summer.

Beautiful view of the city below, gardens, and church. Note that unless you are there to pray, you should not go in the church. Even so, plenty to enjoy up top

Stunning views and lots of activities. Great playground for children on all ages. There’s also a lovely cafe and gift shop to visit. The path from here to Sameiro is lovely but can be steep for younger children and seniors.

Breathtaking views, gardens, architecture and literally breathtaking amount of stairs!
Don’t be like me and take the tram instead of climbing.
Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira is a church from the late 15th century that boasts exquisite Gothic architecture and ornate baroque artwork. This historic site is a stunning place to visit, frequented by many people during evenings and weekends. The square surrounding the church offers plenty of dining options, while the charming nearby alleyways provide ample opportunities for taking photographs. Overall, this beautiful church is definitely worth visiting if you happen to be in town.
Historic, beautiful plece to visit. There are alot of persons at night and weekend. Really worth to visit

It is located on Largo de Oliveria. It is definitely an amazing church. Not just it is a part of the culture but architecture wise it is also amazing. Inside of the church is another story. You will be impressed for sure. You can spend lots of time inside by embracing serenity and peace. Recommended strongly!

The castle of Guimarães is a 10th century-medieval fortification located on a hill in the city of Guimarães, Portugal. It is one of the city's top landmarks and evokes the exciting mixture of legend, poetry and heroism that surrounds the beginning of Portuguese history.
Great tourist attraction. Only €6 for the tour and visit of the medieval castle. The house itself is well rebuild and renovated. Highly recommend to stop by when visiting Guimarães.

Very informative historical castle. Make sure to take your own water as there is only one vending machine, which was out of order.
Lisa SIMONS — Google review
Although it looks impressive from the outside, other than a walk around the walls there is little to see other than some great views of the hills. You can buy a combined ticket for €6 to see castle and Palace but you do come away quite underwhelmed. In the space outside of castle some benches would be a good addition.

It's a historic site of great importance for Guimarães and the whole of Portugal and the mighty walls and towers, are very well preserved...the imposing original fortress was built in the 10th century to defend the Monastery of Santa Maria from the incursions of the Moors. It's located on a hill overlooking the city below...Inside of the castle, you can climb inside the tribute tower, while visiting a small exhibition that tells us the history of the castle and of Portugal. The tour is well organized and takes little time. Entrance to the visit is paid: The ticket is very cheap, only 2 euros, so it's worth visiting the interior.

Already reviewed. Beautifully preserved castle in the birthplace of Portugal with beautiful tapestries and furnishings statues and everything you’d expect out of touring and medieval castle. Highly recommended to go to this beautiful, historic city

The Guimarães has important place in history of Portugal and the castle has in history of Guimarães. About 1000 years old the castle has still been maintained well for the visitors. Platforms have been erected to make it easy for visitors. Some wonderful views of the city can be had from this castle. Please take a combo ticket with Duque’s palace.

The castle is well-conserved, and it’s a great place to visit. Come on! It’s a castle from the X Century. It’s worth the visit.
I don't give it a 5 star because the visit lacks some more info signs/points. It would be nice to have some more signs with some info.

Sadly the castle is closed for renovations. You can access for free the lower part of it and there is a very nice 360 virtual reality experience (paid). However the rest of sites is very good
Gilad P — Google review
It’s only four stars because is currently under renovations!! There is scaffolding and construction noise… on the upside you can still go in and see a small part of the interior for free
Shane Kruse — Google review
Basically closed apart from an interesting and rather amateur 3D experience about an important battle in Portugal's struggle for independence.
Stephen Walker — Google review
The castle was closed for construction when we arrived, so we could only walk around the outside of it. The castle is extremely impressive, and appears to be in excellent condition. We will go back again when we can see the inside, too.
Nola Kucsera — Google review
Given the weather, fog, and winter colours, the castle and palace looked absolutely eerie and beautiful! It cost 6 euros for the combined ticket and both can be done in an hour. The palace is original and underwent some renovations but the castle was completely rebuilt in the 1940s. There's not much to see actually and the outside is way better than the inside. We couldn't go to the very top of the tower as it was cordoned off. There is free parking around the area.

Passadiços do Paiva Trailhead (Areinho) offers a stunning 5.5-mile wooden walkway along the Paiva River, providing breathtaking views of the valley. The well-maintained 8km trail allows for side-by-side walking and leads to the Arouca 516m suspension bridge, although reservations are necessary due to limited availability. This picturesque route showcases untouched landscapes, crystal-clear river waters, and endangered European species.
A great 8km (5mile) walk that is well maintained and allows you to walk two abreast on a very clear path. There is the option of taking in the Arouca 516m suspension bridge but you will need to book ahead as places are very limited. The walk itself is a great way to see the Paiva valley and gets you close to nstire.
If you are walking in one direction then the majority of people walk downstream. This involves a 1.5 km walk up to the highest point of the trail followed by 0.5km of descent via 600+steps and the remainder of the trail is a meander to the end. Jeeps and taxis are available at both ends and it is a 12km trip back to the start via the road.
If you are doing a return trip then start wherever suits you best just be prepared to go up relentlessly for 0.5km at some stage. There are restaurants at both ends and plenty of river beaches and alike to stop at for a picnic /rest /swim!
We went in late March on a Monday and parking was easy and the route was not busy but in the height of the summer they can get 3,000 people a day which may take some of the enjoyment out of the day. Parking is limited and there are very limited alternative parking locations within 1km. If you are thinking of going in the summer I can imagine a very early start would not only avoid the congestion (road and trails) but also be cooler and more interesting light.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did

5.5 mile hike along the Paiva River. The sheer length of the decking walkway is unbelievable, allowing safe access along the banks. There are stops along the trail for swimming, etc as well. A few snack bars were also located at the trail main points to allow refueling, water, a snack, etc. If you here bells, it's not dehydration, look around and you'll see free range cows and goats. 😉

This is a walkway along the Paiva River with beautiful scenery. My family and I enjoyed walking it together. We have teens and still had to bring lots of snacks and water so be prepared. There is a nice place to stop about midway through with restrooms. These walkways are not stroller friendly.

We only hiked the vertical section from the main road up to the base of the suspension bridge. Be prepared for about 300 metres of vertical gain, all in nice wooden stairs - definitely a knee workout. Beautiful views from the top. The suspension bridge now costs €12 (not €2 as it says on the poster), and you have to wait for an official tour time slot, which would have been an hours wait for us.
Tristam MacDonald — Google review
Beautiful hike with amazing views. The prices are pretty gougy and don't seem to be posted anywhere. Its 12€ to cross the suspension bridge or 2€ to just the paths 1 if you pay online.

The Paiva Walkways are located on the left bank of the Paiva River, in the municipality of Arouca, district of Aveiro. There are 8 km that provide an "untouched" tour, surrounded by landscapes of unparalleled beauty, in an authentic natural sanctuary, next to whitewater descents, quartz crystals and endangered species in Europe. The route extends between the river beaches of Areinho and Espiunca, with Vau beach between the two. The Paiva Walkways are an 8.7 km wooden walkway, built along the cliffs of from Paiva. They are located about 75 km southeast of Porto, within the Arouca Unesco Global Geopark. This incredible attraction, due to its unique beauty, has already been awarded 10 times in the World Travel Awards. The 516 Arouca Bridge is the longest suspended pedestrian bridge in the world, measuring 516 meters in length and 175 meters in height. Suspended on Tibetan-style steel cables, the 516 Arouca Bridge was a great challenge for Engineering. This impressive structure joins the banks of the Paiva River Gorge, over the beautiful Cascata das Aguieiras. Next to us, the Paiva River flows in an almost musical way, rising its flow in the winter period, extending the adrenaline of its wild waters to the adventurers of rafting and kayaking. Along the shore, the journey begins in the bathing areas of Areinho and/or Espiunca, and halfway along the route, the small paradise of the leisure and leisure area of Vau opens up in front of us. It's the eight kilometers of a lifetime. Project co-financed by «ON2 – O Novo Norte», through QREN and the European Regional Development Fund.

That's a wonderful hike along a wooden pathway that runs along the river. Unfortunately we arrived a bit late around 17:20 and we initially wanted to walk back and forth the 8kms.
It would take approximately 2h for us one way but we did not have enough time so we walked back from 3/4 of the route.
The walk is easy on the path but there are quite a lot of stairs and during a warm day it can become moderate difficulty.
There are beautiful sports along the way and if you have enough time it definitely is a relaxing hike! I highly recommend planning your visit here.

Absolutely gorgeous trail to cover. This trail consists of 2 times 9kms making it an 18km trail in total. It features some amazing sights such as the wooden stairs, the natural river flowing through the trail and the 516 meter long hanging bridge. The trail is pretty easy since the path is made of wood. We spend 2 hours hiking. There are taxi’s at each point which take you to your parking spot for around €15-€20

Nestled within an evergreen forest of cedar and birch trees, visitors can reach this lookout point by hiking along trails or driving up the rough and winding road. This took about two hours to get up, but along the way you have multiple nice points that you may miss from within the car. At the top we had a lovely view of the national park and it was worth the climb. On the top of the mountain you can see the whole river / lake and all the mountains surrounding the river / lake. Ponte de São Gonçalo, a graceful bridge in Amarante, Portugal, was built in 1790 to replace the original 13th-century structure that was destroyed by flooding. Made of golden stone and adorned with Baroque spires, the bridge holds historical significance as the site of a heroic battle in 1809 against Napoleon's invading French army. It is often depicted alongside the monastery on postcards of Amarante.
We stopped here on a tour. It is very pretty! We took pictures and we also got to check out the local market near by. You can also find a public bathroom at this market in case you’re looking for one.

A trully look alike romanic bridge that allegedly was rebuilt by Saint Gonçalo, in the same place of a original one who collapsed due to a flood. Nearby there is the church and convent in honour of the Saint, inside church's cloisters the Amadeo de Souza-Cardoso museum was developed, he is know for futurism and modernism works, some of this works and caricatures can be seen inside. As curiosity Amadeo was a contemporary of Pablo Picasso and Gaudi in the city of Paris.
A parking area can be found close to the church so its possible to park nearby and cross it by car. The river landscape, bridge, museum and other places to visit are very conveniently close. Some nice coffee shops and traditional bakeries and restaurants are in this area, a must visit city!

Such a beautiful town. Lovely scenery and very nice people. The church is worth a visit and the shops were quaint.
The Santuário de Nossa Senhora dos Remédios is an 18th-century Catholic chapel renowned for its Baroque & Rococo facade and ornate altar. Situated on a hill west of the town's center, it is considered the most famous monument in the area. Despite visiting numerous churches and cathedrals, this one stands out as something special due to its location amidst some of Portugal's most picturesque surroundings.
Beautiful place, over the city of Lamego, a great view all around. The inside of the church is calm, lovely and calls out to silence and prayer. It us a must if you are in the area and make sure to go up all those stairs, but in winter clothes when it's sunny😅😅😅😅

This is very beautiful and worth a visit. The outside is stunning and you get a beautiful view of the town from the top of the hill. Really nice church a few minutes drive from Lamego. Sits on top of the hill with a few hundred steps to walk down, geometrically shaped. The church garden has many mature trees allowing great hike and walk around for a picnic. Majority of the statues are located on the top. If you do drive there are a few stops along the way you can take multiple posts and pictures while driving up to the top. They are abundance of free parking‘s next to the church on the top.
However if you would like to take a picture of all the stairs there is also a plaza that is long and rectangular shape at the base with free parking as well where you can take a nice picture of the church and stairs completely.
The church is worthwhile to see because they even open up the back inner chambers to the cathedral so that you can view more intimate settings of the church

The Fundação da Casa de Mateus is a historical estate from the 1700s featuring an Italianate mansion with preserved period interiors and formal gardens. This exceptional baroque mansion, possibly designed by renowned architect Nicolau Nasoni, is considered one of Portugal's great masterpieces. Visitors can take guided tours in English, French, Spanish or German to explore the rustic yet grand main quarters.
Gorgeous place with a special atmosphere. Except being depicted on the label this place has nothing to do with that fizzy rose wine. The gardens alone are worth a visit.

A beautiful place to explore and learn about the heritage of a very privileged and wealthy family and what they've achieved throughout history. There are 3 ticket options, garden, house and garden and house, garden and chapel. We went for the later, which included an audio guide for the garden and a guided tour of the house and chapel. Overall the service and site were great, albeit we felt that the entry costs were a little steep. In hindsight, we'd probably only pay to see the gardens as the guided tour of the house and chapel weren't that inspiring. Yes there is a lot of history, but the artefacts and decor were somewhat underwhelming in contrast to the gardens.

Formal gardens at the side and back of the house are absolutely stunning. Barocco style manor house’s architecture blends well with gardens and surrounding vineyards. House is in private ownership but open to public for tours. Lots of authentic furniture and paintings over few centuries.

The guided tour of the house was enlightening - taught us some interesting stuff about nobility in old Portugal. The preserved furniture and art are fascinating, and the library is breathtaking. The garden outside is also beautiful.
When we visited, though, the water bodies outside were not as pristine as in the marketing photos, and looked a bit rundown. It's a pity, because the cost of entry is not cheap, and one would expect more.... Also, it was bitterly cold inside, with not enough lighting, but I don't think there's much to do about it, so just be ready for that.

This was a nice stop on the drive towards the winery tasty in the east part pf Portugal .. the chapel is nice. What I dislike is the attitude of the employees .. the young lady was nice and she opened the chapel for us .. but the gentlemen were a bit fussy and rude ..

That was so disappointing. Unless you are a Mateus wine fervent follower, just avoid this place. The pricing is ridiculous: I was charged €12,50 just to see the gardens because the chapel (included in the price in theory) is closed in the winter. The palace, the gardens and the chapel look splendid but I guess this pricing is simply a joke.
There are so many as beautiful places in the world and you are usually offered free or at least decently-priced entrance to the gardens. Want a recommendation? OEIRAS near Lisboa. What a lovely place, and you can enjoy the gardens for free because the palace is being renovated.
I tried to speak about my disappointment to the person at the ticket office but of course I was politely ignored. Not very compatible with the premium image they are selling.
PS if you really need to stop there, I recommend having coffee at a local bar just opposite, a place so simple and staff so kind...

Very interesting museum. Rate to find rock at and explanations let you really understand their significance. To be competed with the visit on site elsewhere in the valley.

Nice Park and museum.
It's not big but has a lot of information. It can be done in less than an hour.
The surroundings are majestic. Beautiful view.
There's a 360 immersive video and plenty of explanations on the rupestre art as well as the explanation of the place.
Highly recommend that you go to see the areas where there is the art. It's a guided tour and helps understand the meaning of it all.
The boat is what we did. It should be the best since you see the newest discovery, from 2020, and is fresher since it is by river.

The museum is an architectural wonder. We had an excellent guide who highlighted the sophistication of the artistic expression in the etchings in the valley The tiny drawings etched into stone, with magnifying lenses and lights to let you really seen them were amazing, but would have been easy to overlook.
The subject matter may not be for everyone, but the building is spectacular as are the views from the courtyard connected to a quite good cafe and bar for those who would rather take in the scenery.

Tourist trap! 6 euros is too much. Only 4 rooms with some monitors and some reproduction of rocks to project images.
Nothing to do with a real archaeological museum.
The panoramic view is beautiful.

Outstanding. It is important to see the actual carvings, the museum gives you context, although it is a wonderful building on an amazing situation with a great restaurant. The tour is fascinating, the guides excellent and for me it was unforgettable. Carvings and 'animation' from up to 20,000 years ago.

We only did a tour and didn’t visit the museum. The tour was so so special and absolutely worth it (16€). It takes about 2 hours and it’s just mind boggling how this was made, how old it is and how it almost all got flooded. Really interesting story from all viewpoints!

Incredible value for the price!
Very interactive, educational and also comfortable, especially for adults. The app is quite good, but the wifi signal could be improved (needed for the app).
Additionally, we went there before our schedule night tour to the Penascosa site. Very good preparation and complete experience (7€ for the museum and 20€ for the guided tour in Penascosa)

Good museum with good explanations of the valley's rock art, much of it 20,000 years old. Many graphic panels, some replicas and some very good animations. Brutalist concrete building is not to my taste. It feels like a nuclear bunker. But the cafe/restaurant is bright and beautiful with views across the mountains. The terrace outside has a beautiful view down to the river.

A beautiful historical castle with a museum, but it is outrageous that you can pay only in cash, cards are not accepted. Moreover, when I paid in cash, I was not given a ticket, they just let me pass and that's that. This is absolutely not how it should be done! The grumpiness of the personnel and the fact that they do not bother to say hello or goodbye to visitors is just a bonus.

Amazing!! We happened to visit during their annual "Festa da História" - a 4 day festival where volunteers dress up in medieval period clothing and re-create the hustle and bustle of life inside the castle walls. This was completely free!!!! Kids enjoyed playing period games, eating traditional foods (food was not free) and walking through the town complete with an alley representing the more shady part of town. Parents with younger kids may want to keep out of this area (which is just outside the public washrooms), there are characters dressed as zombies and ghosts which some kids found frightening. Check the website for next years festival dates which seem to occur yearly in August.

The castle and church within the walls, the walkings areas around the fortress itself the river running free in winter days, all come together to welcome you. However, as a visitor, or even would I be a dweller, it is impossible to cope with the two cafe terraces and its continuous loud distressing music. The city hall ought to take measures to end such loudness in such an historical landscape that naturally welcomes to silence.

Great castle. You can climb all the walls and towers. There is a military museum inside the keep with all the different weapons and arms used by the military over the last 500 years. Lots of stairs.

This stronghold is some 900 years old, just about the same as its rival of Sanabria, the other side of the border. Very well maintained and, given its strategic position in the Northeast corner of the kingdom, with true military value. The square central tower is massive and particularly impressive.

After having a perfect lunch at "Alma Lusa" we headed here to check out this Castelo. It's on top of the hill, only a short walk away from the old town.
It's a very well preserved Castle with an impressive tower. Construction began somewhen in the 13th Century. Even though there seemed to be another castle here in the 12th Century. But the current castle in its current state began to take for a century later.
The village was also moved closer to the castle and the walls at the time of building.
It's a really impressive construction and you also can walk parts of the fortified walls with some nice views. The castle is also home to a military museum. It's a really impressive place and it's rare to see a castle in this well preserved state. Really worth a visit.
There are lots of parking lots up here, but it's a nice little walk to/from town, in case you dropped your car there like us.

Sanabria Lake Natural Park is a rugged landscape, characterized by hilly woods and waterways that contain cascades in hanging valleys. It offers a unique experience that surpasses the beach with no salty air or shower required but still provides beautiful views and peaceful surroundings. The clear waters of the lake are home to various fish species, making it a perfect spot for fishing enthusiasts. A boat trip along the lake is an amusing and practical way to explore the park further.

For such a big and impressive castle, the short free visit was a bit disappointing. I'd have liked very much to take a full guided tour, but the person at the ticket counter didn't even offer me any and I only learned about the existence of guided tours later. It's a real pity to see that they've got such a well-conserved medieval castle here but show that little interest in presenting it to visitors.

While part of the courtyard can be visited for free, the tour of the castle is great with abundant information on the defensive structures of the castle for very little money.
For even less money you can climb to the top of the tower and receive more information about the history of the castle.
However, I am not sure if they offer a tour in English.
There is free parking right in front of the castle as is the information - entering the grounds from the street it's easy to miss if you keep looking at the castle instead of turning to the right. The pavilion with the information also has a small archeological site and restrooms.

The Plaza Mayor de Valladolid is a significant historical landmark in Spain, boasting impressive local architecture and culture. It is one of the country's largest public squares and was formerly a bustling market. Renamed after the 16th century, visitors can enjoy walking around the plaza and take in its attractions. Located near another famous plaza, Plaza Zorrilla, it features ornate buildings with arcades and an outdoor cafe that adds to its lively atmosphere.
Very nice place, it was a bit quiet when we arrived, nothing happens here between 3pm and 8pm.

The art museum Colegio de San Gregorio - Museo Nacional de Escultura (colección histórica), located in a former church, showcases both medieval and modern sculptures along with Spanish oil paintings. The museum's remarkable sculpted facade, crafted by master sculptor Gil de Siloe, features intricate details such as coats of arms, crowned lions, sculpted twigs, naked children playing in a pomegranate tree, and long-haired men holding maces.
Installed in the San Gregorio College, founded by Friar Alonso de Burgos , confessor of Queen Isabel, and which in itself is an outstanding work of Isabelian gothic style . Again, building and its contents are rivals for attention. The entrance attributed to Gil de Siloe and Simon de Colonia, is high high point of Spanish art. In the interior, the visitor will delight in the unique and surprising pieces from the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries . Works by Berruguete, Felipe Vigarny, Diego de Siloe and Juan de Juni fill to overflowing the halls in this magnificent presentation of Spanish statues.

Castillo de Coca
It was built in 1453 by the illustrious bishop of Avila, Don Alonso de Fonseca, under the direction of the architect Ali Caro. Upon his death, his brother continued to work. In 1462, Coca had a mint to issue Castilian and Portuguese coins that helped pay for the workers involved in building the castle.
The Coca Castle is one of the most beautiful examples of Spanish Mudéjar Gothic art. Its construction amazes and loves it for the first time, as in every brick form it expresses an architectural ensemble as original and innovative as few people.
It highlights the unique beauty of its rooms, represented by beautiful Mudéjar geometric decorations made of stucco and paintings, which also gives us a unique and unrepeatable legacy. Another peculiarity is that it is not constructed on a hill as is usually the case with forts of this type, as its defense system benefits from the cliff terrain, which acts as a seat for this castle that stands over a wide and deep area. The trench. A love story in which Marquis Senetti starred .

Amazing. One of the best stops on my Spanish trip.
I hired a car in Madrid and drove out to Coca to visit this stunning castle.
Not only was it visually incredible, but it was also fully accessible, I was able to walk the walls inside and out, explore the interior, and even climb up and out onto the roof.
If that's not amazing enough, I was able to do that was barely anyone else present as the castle is aittle off the beaten path.
The town of Coca is definitely worth a wander too, it's beautiful and historic - even scoring a mention in the Astrix and Obelisk comics.
Definitely one of my highlights!

Review Title: Majestic Beauty in Coca!
The charm of Spain shines brightly in Castillo de Coca! This Gothic-Mudejar fortress located in Coca city is nothing short of a historical masterpiece. From the moment you set eyes on the castle, it's an awe-inspiring sight!
Whether you are an architecture connoisseur or a history enthusiast, the castle's blend of Gothic-Mudejar design will surely command your admiration. The intricate designs and well-preserved walls are testament to the brilliant craftsmanship of the era. The fortress's well-preserved state allows visitors to truly step back in time, and you can almost hear the echoes of historic Spanish events.
The surrounding beauty of the castle grounds is an added charm, ensuring a feeling of peace and tranquillity during your visit. The weather in Coca is always inviting, making the visit to the castle even more enjoyable.
Lastly, the castle staff, they are informative, friendly, truly enhancing the overall visitor experience. Don't miss out on the guided tour offered, highly educational and engaging.
In conclusion, Castillo de Coca is a must-visit attraction in Spain. It’s a perfect blend of historical grandeur, architectural brilliance, stunning beauty, and hospitable people. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

A must see if you are in Palencia. Spectacular from the outside, and even more impressive inside. Built on a Visigothic place of worship (which can still be seen in the crypt below), it stands as a visual representation of the development in Gothic architecture over time. Highly recommended to visit with a guide.

You have to pay to visit a place of worship that your ancestors built and it's currently maintained by taxpayers money. Given that church property taxes are not payed, taxpayers are asked to donate money in their tax declarations, and grants from Europe (FEDER) and Spain (MINECO) are obtained, it would be a sign of gratitude to eliminate or reduce the entrance for Spanish and European nationals. Not to talk about the attitude of 'pay and shut up' by an institution not very open to criticism.
Great castle in perfect condition. Actually it is a school so it is very well preserved. The tour, around 45min, is amazing and you can learn about the castle, the history and the life of the village. The tour guide is amazing and his explanations very clear and helpful
Joaquin Cheto — Google review
As a castle it is magnificent. But regrettably we only saw it from the outside. It is used as some kind of educational establishment. One can ONLY visit it at specified times in a group with a Spanish speaking guide. How's that for financial lunacy? At the campsite we were staying at there were French, Dutch, English and German tourists. All potential visitors. And within that group English would be the most widely spoken second language . So the provision of an English speaking tour guide makes economic sense. But we did, for 1.5 Euros each get to walk the walls and from there to view the scenery and the town . The town itself has many churches and various other sites of interest. The churches, as is almost always invariably the case, were closed. He/She may have created the world ...so the myth goes...in 7 days but His/Her edifices are usually only available when the faithful are gathered . The Plaza Major was nothing worth seeing. So unless you are proficient in Spanish you will only be able to admire the castle from outside. And the town itself hardly warrants a visit.
Postscript...the owner informs me I can book an English speaking guide. At some considerable cost I assume. If one is simply passing through the area and decide to visit the castle on the spur of the moment pre- booking doesn't apply. The simple solution is to employ bilingual guides. We found no reference to the availability of an English speaking guide on the website. Nor were we informed of that provision at the castle information office.

Externally a very impressive, imposing building set high up above the town.
Sadly the inside has been very sanitised in comparison with all the other Spanish castles we have visited.
Walking around it you don't really get any sense of history because internally so much of it is very modern.
Also, we paid for a tour which we knew would be in Spanish, but were assured that there would be a summary in English at each point - this didn't happen, and the guide told us she only speaks a little English.
Obviously we don't go about with the expectation that English will be either spoken or understood, but it was disappointing to have paid for a tour that we couldn't understand a word of.

Penafiel Castle in Valladolid is a hidden gem that took me by surprise with its allure and historical significance. Nestled in the heart of the Spanish countryside, this medieval marvel exudes an undeniable charm that transports visitors to a bygone era.
As I approached the castle, its striking silhouette against the sky left me in awe. The well-preserved walls and turrets instantly conveyed a sense of history, promising a captivating journey through the ages. Once inside, I was enamored by the intricate architectural details and the stories they seemed to whisper.
Beyond its historical significance, Penafiel Castle's location is a true delight. The panoramic views of the surrounding countryside from atop the towers are simply breathtaking. I could have spent hours gazing out over the picturesque landscape, feeling a sense of serenity and wonder.
The view of the castle from the Corrida arena (Plaza del Coso) of Penafiel is very spectacular as well, adding another layer of beauty to the already enchanting experience.
My visit to Penafiel Castle was a memorable journey into the past, filled with wonder and fascination. Whether you're a history enthusiast or simply looking for a unique escape, this Valladolid gem promises an unforgettable experience that leaves you with cherished memories of a timeless adventure.

We took the Spanish tour which was tough because we don't speak Spanish, but we were still able to learn a lot. Based on the laughter of those who could speak Spanish, the tour guide was funny. Here are my notes: a long time ago in a land far away a castle was built on a hill. It was stone and boat shaped. Definitely recommend!

Amazing views, very nicely restored and interesting tour, including a very informative wine museum.

On one hand they offered us a guided tour in English but the person did only in Spanish when he realized we translated ourselves. Even if that could be a negative point, the guide was attentive and approach to us later to apologize and ask for any questions. On the other the castle has charming but the wine museum fills a gap that gives me a confronted sensation between the missing conceptual view and the recreational offer. All together, the price of the ticket is good, be ready to climb stairs and try to be early to get the best spots to park.

Spectacular castle and views of the town, truly impressive. However you cannot visit the castle on your own, you can only visit it as part of a guided tour. Removing two stars because if this

We took a tour that lasted about an hour and 15 minutes, followed by a wine tasting. The tour guides where extremely knowledgeable and the ambience was phenomenal. Definitely worth a stop.

Bodegas protons good history behind and very well presented, they do millions of litres wine there … you can understand where wines makers will bring the wines in the future

Very interesting tour and excellent wines to taste at the end. I felt the marketing videos at the beginning were a bit too much, but overall very good.

Nothing distinctive about the tour, the two wines to taste at the end of the tour or the two other wines I bought to take with me. Not a complete disappointment though, they have a very distinctive chocolate bar - recommend the chocolate.

Fantastic. The wine here is iconic. The region, Ribera del Duero, one of the best wine regions in the world. Salud!

Fine winery with a lot of history in their wheels. We booked the tour + wine tasting at the end. I would recommend the cellar to update the initial phase with all the audiovisual contents, they look old fashioned and kind of boring. The guides were OK, the tasting was OK, nothing out of the blue for such an iconic cellar. They should probably revamp and rethink the process, nothing to complain, but living in 2023 it's good to be updated with the time being.

A must see and enjoy. The tour was great, and the Bodegas are amazing. The tour guide was very nice answering questions and teaching us about Ribera del Duero wines.

Beautiful winery of very famous Protos wine. Tour was nice but super fast and lacking details and a little bit of organization at tasting.

Lovely bodega! Our tour guide Raquel did a fantastic job explaining the wine process and showing us Protos. As the tour continues you really get a sense of the effort that goes into making a great tasting wine.
