Tavira Island is a barrier island located off the coast of Tavira city. Accessible by boat or tourist train, this 11-kilometer-long sandbar boasts stunning Blue Flag beaches with crystal clear waters perfect for swimming. The island features several good beaches and is a popular destination for tourists looking to soak up the sun on comfortable sun loungers. It's also home to restaurants and even plastic bottle banks for fish disposal.
We liked the way you get there. By ferry from Tavira, 20min or so. The island is very green, has place for picnic, restaurants and small shops. The beach is huge, very busy in summer!
Gala DanzaOriental — Google review
The island is approx. 1.5km circular walk. Lovely white sands and clear waters although there were quite a few jelly fish. All your expected beach amenities are there - restaurants, bars sundowners areas for those not wanting the loungers. Relatively quiet in the morning. Got busier in the afternoon.

Ah, Ilha de Tavira, a hidden gem in the southern coast of Portugal, where pristine beaches, azure waters, and untouched nature come together to create a paradise for beach lovers and nature enthusiasts alike.
As I step off the boat onto this enchanting island, I'm immediately greeted by the sight of endless stretches of golden sand and the gentle lapping of the Atlantic Ocean. Ilha de Tavira is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, a protected area known for its unique ecosystem of salt marshes, lagoons, and dunes, making it a haven for wildlife and a sanctuary for those seeking a tranquil escape.
The island's main beach, Praia de Tavira, is a postcard-perfect scene, with its soft sands and crystal-clear waters that beckon visitors to take a refreshing dip. As I walk along the shoreline, I can't help but be mesmerized by the natural beauty that surrounds me. Seagulls soar above, and the gentle breeze carries the scent of salt and sea, creating a sensory symphony that soothes the soul.
One of the highlights of Ilha de Tavira is its ecologically diverse landscape. The sand dunes that fringe the beach are a fragile ecosystem, home to rare plant species and a sanctuary for nesting birds. The island's unique environment is carefully protected and preserved, allowing visitors to experience nature at its most pristine.
As I venture away from the main beach, I discover hidden coves and secluded spots, where I can find my own slice of paradise away from the crowds. The tranquility of these spots is unmatched, and I find myself drawn to the sense of solitude and peace that envelops me.
At the eastern end of the island, I come across the picturesque fishing village of Tavira, a place frozen in time, where traditional whitewashed houses and cobbled streets exude an old-world charm. It's a place where time seems to slow down, and the rhythms of life are in sync with the ebb and flow of the tides.
Ilha de Tavira is more than just a beach destination; it's a place to connect with nature and experience the simple joys of life. I spend my days basking in the sun, strolling along the shore, and relishing the freshest seafood at beachside restaurants. Evenings are spent watching the sun dip below the horizon, painting the sky in a glorious display of colors.
As I reluctantly bid farewell to Ilha de Tavira, I know that its beauty and serenity will remain etched in my heart. It's a place where time seems to stand still, where the beauty of nature and the simplicity of life come together in perfect harmony, creating a sanctuary of peace and wonder on Portugal's sun-kissed coast.

Enjoyed our time on Tavira island,Boat trip was only £2.20 return, with restaurants nearby, comfortable sunlounger ,They even had fish plastic bottle banks
Jessica Kelly — Google review
This is the main beach with the biggest “structure” in Tavira region and islands.
Several restaurants, camping and all beach facilities and services.
You can take the ferry at “Cais das 4 águas” which is much closer than taking it in Tavira center.
This is also the more crowded beach in the area, but once you arrive in Tavira island beach you can walk west to find less crowded spots.
Pedro Melo — Google review
Please, don’t go…
Sea is not clean, high price, very crowd and touristic beach, not good services. Much better spending one day anywhere else than here.
Giulio Mariani — Google review
Very nice place. Would recommend bringing some food with you and making a picnic at the beach. The restaurants on the island are a little bit pricey and not of a very good quality (limited option during low season).

Loved it. White sand and clear water. Was quiet when I went at end of March but still hot (25 Celsius)
The Catholic cathedral dating back to the 13th century is a beautiful sight in Faro. The Igreja de Se courtyard and surrounding orange trees are a lovely addition to an otherwise modern old town. At the heart of the city, the Se cathedral is a must-see for visitors to Faro. On top of the clock tower there are wonderful views of Faro and the Ria Formosa Natural Park.
Quite nice to visit. You have access to the cathedral, the upper level with a museum where you can see the cathedral from above, then a garden with a sun clock and 2 small chapels (including one with bones but not very well preserved) and the rooftop. The view from the rooftop are very nice, and you can see the bells.
Sarah Zup — Google review
Faro’s cathedral is a beautiful, tranquil place, a strange but enticing mixture of styles after being looted and damaged in an earthquake over the centuries. It costs €5 for the whole complex. The church is full of interesting features, from tiled chapels to opulent altarpieces, and it is certainly worth the short climb to the upper choir to see the organ up close. There is also a small museum upstairs, plus an external altarpiece made of bones. Climbing the tower gives unsurpassed views of the town and surrounding area, although beware as the first set of steps are steep and badly worn. Usefully, there are also toilet facilities on site.
Phil Bradford — Google review
Very nice cathedral with a beautiful coventry,... If you're visiting Faro it's a must-see.
You can also go at the top of the tower to have a beautiful view on Faro.

Lovely Cathederal dating back to 1498. The Cathederal was undergoing essential refurbishment works so we couldn't see the full spenders this Cathederal has to offer. Wonderful view of Faroe from the top of the tower and a big thumbs up to the guy in the ticket office, great sence of humour. 👍👍😃

From outside, there is nothing special about this cathedral. The interior though is a different story. There is so much art and history to make the place a must see if you are in the area. After that, going up the tower is the icing on the cake. Great views all around that stretch from the old town to the ocean.
Tariq Lahyani — Google review
Absolutely stunning cathedral, filled with artistic sculptures and works of art. Your ticket also gets you access to the Tower (great views of Faro), a museum and their bone chapel.
Megan P — Google review
A great view of the unique landscape of the Ria Formosa Natural Park! Church and exhibition were also not bad, but for us rather secondary. 5€ each person is a bit too much.
Justin Babilon — Google review

Faro cathedral is an absolute must for your visit to Faro. Very beautiful building with lots of historical artifacts. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit here.
Ace Rimmer — Google review
For €5, it's a lovely little experience with an amazing view. Definitely not for anyone with poor mobility as there are a lot of steps, especially if you want to head up the tower
Kerrianne O'Mahoney — Google review
This Cathedral building was started in 1251, two years after the Christian Reconquest of Faro from the Muslim Moors. It has undergone several renovations and additions since, the last major changes made after the earthquakes in 1722 and 1755. A rather sad historical fact is that in 1596 the city of Faro and the Cathedral were sacked and burned by the English troops of Robert Devereux, 2nd Earl of Essex, on their way back from the capture of Cádiz.
The altars and the various chapels are marvelously decorated and carved, some with tiled walls with biblical illustrations. The entrance ticket (€2.00 for the over 65s) also gives access to the tower, from where there is great views of the town, the waterfront and the airport. As we stood there, a white stork flew past on its way to its nest on the roof of one of the nearby buildings.
Across the inner courtyard there is a small bone chapel with skulls (mostly broken) built into the walls.
T Hartberg — Google review
Entrance to the territory of the museum-cathedral costs 5 €. a very beautiful observation deck, there were practically no people.
but the spyglass doesn't work, the money just gets stuck!
Marina — Google review
it's quite old building historically and unique, beautiful from outside/inside. The Tickets is quite fair/cheap, and you can explore inside and outside of it (you can climb on the cathedral tower as well to be able to see the best view from up top. And to take Great/memorable pictures of it plus there is some nice and old cathedral bells. from up top of the tower you can see in almost 360 viewing huge amount of the "Faro City" and all around the cathedral. Definitely worth to explore and check it.

Beautiful cathedral. Entrance fee is 5 euro. There is a small chapel of bones, the bell tower and museum.

I've been to some cathedrals in my time and for some reason this one blew me away. It's not excessively large or grand or intricate but something about it had me in awe for my whole visit. Man on the desk was very nice and the view from the top was incredible.

Super chill beach. Perfect place for reading and sunbathing. Nice boardwalk behind the sandbar so you can enjoy the views and ocean sounds without having to get sandy too!

Really beautiful clean beach. Miles and miles of beautiful sand. Plenty of cafes along the beach when you need a break. Sea quite shallow but be careful of the strong currents. A good place to try out surfing if you are a beginner as waves not too big. Keep walking along the beach and there are water sports and para sailing activities.

Stunning beach great for swimming not too steep and not too shallow, water 18 degrees in November so perfect

Quite amazing beaches and rock formations along this coast. You can walk along the beach or on the cliff through the greenery. Both have very different aspects of the rock formations. Great sunset views too. Highly recommend!

Incredible beach against the backdrop of some beautiful red cliffs. Amazing and clean sand, tonnes of space. No animals / dogs as the cliffs are quite dangerous. The water is lovely and you can rent pedalos/jetskis if that floats your boat

We were here 4 years ago and think if you want to complete with the establishment beside the car park you need to give it a good overall but food and drink was good and reasonable priced
The Zoomarine Algarve theme park in Portugal is a huge facility with slides, pools, an aquarium and more... It's often touted as the biggest attraction around Albufeira, and the zoo here offers much more than the average water park experience.
Absolutely amazing place, especially for families with kids 3-10 y.o. Fun and at the same time cozy and relaxing atmosphere. Dolphins' show was the best. If your child is small enough, he or she could participate in the show during ball game. Pirats' show was also very fun, creative and absolutely amazing.
Everything is done with the idea of respect to nature. A lot of touching moments together with lots of fun.
Olesia — Google review
Water slides & pool are lovely & clean. Dolphin show is amazing. Atmosphere is calm & friendly.
Food is a little pricey & I felt the Pirate show was lacking adventure.
The toilet facilities are good & clean. Lockers are available. You can hire sun loungers & shade - €10. (Or just a lounger for €5)
Parking is free.
I would recommend a visit.
Cot A — Google review
Nice experience and so much fun! The pools were great, just be careful if you go in summer, you probably won't have any space to move. Same thing goes for the food, you will have to wait a long time, specially in the summed but overall, it's worth it
ines gon?alves — Google review
We have now visited Zoomarine 4 times and loved it every time. The place is clean, staff polite & friendly. Everything is well sign-posted. Shows that they put on are always great, educating and fun. Animals are looking healthy and well looked after. The swimming pool is awesome, spacious and warm. Good selection of water slides and rides. Butterfly world is a lovely addition to the park. Will definitely be back in the future.

This place is amazing!! We are definitely going again! It is a theme park/water park/zoo! It has everything you need, there is cafes and restaurants and lockers so no need to bring anything just your swimming costume and ticket, highly recommend.
Kate (KK) — Google review
Amazing place, any animal lover will find something for themselves.
Over the whole day, there are several shows of dolphins, seals and sea lions, parrots, birds of prey and tropical birds, so you can plan the visit how you want.
The 🐬 and 🦭 shows were absolutely amazing, go there first in case you want to repeat it later 😀
There is also aquarium 🐠, 🦋 garden and 🦜🐢🦩🐊 habitats, all open the whole day.
The slides are cool too, but the queues are really really long.
I would recommend you to get there early as there is a lot to see 🤩.
Inez Ka — Google review
Was lots to do. There were alot of rides for the kids. It’s nice that there is the zoo and the water park as well as regular rides so you can do all the rides and animals and then relax in the water park. Although it was busy there wasn’t a wait time for anything. We went on a Saturday in the off season so wasn’t bad at all. Really reasonable to get in. Food was very reasonably priced as well.
Danielle Hayward — Google review
Fantastic place. We got the two day pass and it was great value for money. Delicious, reasonably priced food. Nice little rides for the kids. Lots of shows on. Dolphin show was excellent.
Only put a star down as we weren't told that we needed to get a wristband for the second day, so when we arrived the second day, we had trouble getting in. Reception sorted it for us eventually but treated us a bit like it was our fault.
Clare Pittaway — Google review
Loads to do here, the water park is amazing with loads of slides.
The rides here are great fun for the kids.
All the animal shows are amazing. We even did the swimming with dolphins this was amazing. Alot of money but the memory's are there for ever.

Great family day out. Next time we'll bring swimwear so we can enjoy all of the park properly. I would recommend a couple of days as there is so much to do and see. Great shows as well as rides.

Absolutely Fantastic place! The Dolphin show was amazing. The place was clean and tidy. Food was a bit pricey for the quality, but they are always, in these sort of places. My daughter also had the Dolphin interaction in a group, which she liked. It was fantastic to learn about these beautiful animals.
Mabel Younge — Google review
Great place for families with children, a lot of water toboggans, swimming pool, waves pool, you can stay on the grass or on the sand.
Good prices for food and drinks.
In a few words just great for fun in the summer holidays!!
Dan Stoenica — Google review
Great day out for the kids, food tasty and not too expensive. Long queues to be expected for the rides, would definitely need a 2 day ticket to get around all of the attractions. Shows are very good and not to be missed, especially the dolphin and pirate show.
Donna Kelly — Google review
Great little theme park/water park. Only downside was that because it had only just opened for the season there was still parts that were closed. But good thing about this was there was no wait for any of the rides.
Plenty to do for young children, my 2 year old loved the rides he was able to go on.
Vanja Marples — Google review
Worth a family trip , decent park overall. All the shows were good but the Dolphin show was amazing and definitely not to be missed.
Good restaurants offering wide varieties.
Water slides were well maintained and kids friendly .

Great place to visit whilst on your holidays. My hotel was 30minute coach journey which isn’t bad. The shows are great only managed to see the seal show due to the timing for other shows and activities. To do everything would be best over 2 days. Food and drink prices are reasonable. To use the pools and water the lockers are €5 and €5 deposit which you get back once the key has been handed back in. Good ride selection for children and adults to take part also.
Anthony Brotherton — Google review
Very good theme park, most would need two days to explore it all. The dolphin and seal shows are fantastic, it is lovely to see the love and care the trainer's have for them. Also the pirate show is a lot of fun. It's very clean and well looked after, well worth the entrance fee, also the band's that you can put money on are handy so you don't have to carry cash or your phone with you and it's refundable at the end of you don't spend it all. Although it doesn't work on the drinks machine's so you might need cash for them. It's recommended to get there before 10am so you can fit it all in if your only there for a day also there is a very good app to plain your day.

Fantastic place. A must visit for anyone going to Portugal.
Dolphin emotions was unbelievable. Usually I'd be concerned about enclosures but they are spacious and seem very well cared for!.
Kids loved the water park too plenty of options for all ages.

Had a really amazing day here with my husband & even though it rained a little it didn't dampen our spirits. The park is immaculate with lots to do for anyone of any age. We arrived for it opening & didn't leave till closing time & I love how much they do for conservation.

Fantastic place. All animal displays were dual language. Videos have subtitles.
all animals looked healthy and happy.
My wife and I had a deal for up to 3 day visits included in our holiday package. You definitely need 2 days to see all shows and exhibitions as well as make use of the pools and fun fair rides.
Nice cool under cover pic nic/food hall area as well as grass and "beach" areas if you wish to be in the sun.
John Smith — Google review
I was unsure about going here as I'm not a big fan of zoos. I was pleasantly surprised. The displays were good, although aimed at a slightly younger audience. The usual lectures about how we humans are bad for the environment etc.

I absolutely love Zoomarine. I have been coming for over 20 years and every time I am there it brings so much joy to myself and anyone I am with. The care for the animals and the message of conservation and protection for wildlife is genuine and amazing. I will always come back and the growth in their almost 35 years is incredible. Well done Zoomarine, keep saving ocean lives.

Great place to visit if you're in the region, fun for all the family/here on your own or as a couple. There are amusing shows to attend including a fantastic dolphin show, but with lots of emphasis on conservation and the marine hospital that they have. Great water and funfair rides as well as a wave pool, massive swimming pool and lots of areas to lounge. Definitely worth going to if you're here for a few days.

Fab day out, so much to see and do. The €10 for 2nd day is a great deal. Highlight was the Butterfly 🦋 House, Dolphins and water slides 🐬🐬
Becks Reynolds — Google review
Great day out. We got a taxi here 20/10/23. £72 euro for two adults and a child but well worth it and you will need the majority of the full day to enjoy. The dolphin show is beautiful and there is a bird show too. We had to rent beds for 15 euro which was fine. Little amusement park and we had lunch here too. Great day out.
Slide and Splash is a seasonal water park that features slides, pools and rides as well as live falconry, reptile and tropical bird shows. The park is small enough for children, but there are plenty of amusement options for adults as well.
We had so much fun in this water park!! The slides were varied and adventurous. Everything was clean and looked appealing! WHAT YOU SHOULD NOW: 1. book the tickets online to save 10%; 2. take drinks and food with you (prices are okay); 3. take enough towels with you (deck chairs cost extra).

Excellent water park! Best one we've been to, lots of ride for the wee one to go on. Most rides are 1m or 1.2m height restriction. Beautiful birds and snakes there too, which we didn't expect. We didn't think we could spend all day there but we did because we had so much fun!

A great place to go with your kids, family and friends to have lots of fun all day long.
Just be aware that you won't be able the ride the slides wearing watches or any type in of jewelry, so strongly recommend getting a locker.
Take a cooler with snacks and drinks and something to make some shade.

This place is AMAZING! very friendly and helpful staff. There is a fantastic selection of slides for all ages, going all the way up to the more extreme slides. We went during the Easter holidays and waited no longer than 4 minutes for anytime. An amazing day out and we'll be back next time we're in the Algarve.

When I was a kid going to this place was an event. Now I love bringing my daughter here and seeing her having fun and being upset for having to leave at the end of the day because the park is closing, same as I used to do.

Really fabulous park. I can’t fault it on anything. Spotlessly clean and perfectly maintained. There are lovely grounds with lots of shade from bushes and trees. We went for two days (there is a great offer with a big discount for the second day). I didn’t see a single piece of litter anywhere. Nearly no queues on either day (the longest we waited for anything was 10/15 min and that was mid afternoon. In the morning there were no queues. The kids got their picture taken holding the parrots and a snake which they really loved. Loads of great rides. Really lovely place to spend a couple of days.

In conclusion, Slide & Splash in Vale de Deus, Estômbar, Portugal, is an outstanding water park that guarantees a full day of pool fun and entertainment in the Algarve region. With its clean and safe environment, it is a suitable destination for families and individuals of all ages. By purchasing tickets in advance and planning accordingly, you can maximize your enjoyment and create lasting memories at Slide & Splash.

So much fun!!!
I loved it here. Lots of slides to go on. The waterpark is clean, there's so many lifeguards which can only be a good thing.
The layout isn't confusing. Everything is easy to get to.
Highly recommend.

Bought 4 tickets online for €108 and that gets you entry and access to all slides. It did not includes any seating, parasols or food and drinks.
We arrived 20 mins early and joined a reasonable queue.
Gates opened 5 mins early and people poured in to find best patch of grass to place towels and parasols for the day.
If you then immediately start getting to the slides you'll get in a good few rides but the longer you wait, the greater the queues.
The day we went, it was busy but we were still able to enjoy almost every slide with no longer than about a 12 mins wait..tops.
In 5 hours, kids had had multiple goes on multiple slides and we left at 2.30 with the place looking very busy and people still turning up.
You can hire parasols, lockers and even separate areas with deck chairs, recliners and shade but it costs a lot.
Food and snacks available but pack your own otherwise expect long queues and hefty prices.
I did it for the kids. For me, it's too busy and after an hour, the grass areas were completely covered with towels and no inch was spare.
There are reviews here which clearly indicate just how rammed the place can get so even though the place was very busy, it can get considerably worse and unbearable for many.

There were plenty of superb slides. I really enjoyed the Boomerang and today, I went on the foam slides 6 times! A magnificent end to my Easter Holidays! Banzai for skimming water, the Big Wave for a brave surfer and many more. At times I went, the longest queues for me were only around 7 minutes! The staff are extremely friendly and a lot can communicate in multiple languages. The services and food are great!

Amazing fun for all the family. Went out of season at beginning of October, no queues, 27 degree sun and we went on everything at least 3 times! So much fun for all ages and the staff were super helpful and on point with safety and security.

A lot of people, they really do let in a lot of crowd. It’s a water park in high season so can’t blame them, there are always going to be lines. Never been to a water park with no lines. Staff are very friendly. The park is very clean. They have a water-path so you don’t burn your feet. The food is not bad. You can rent umbrellas which is pretty cool. You can hang out on clean, green grass. The kids loved it (10 and 14). Longest wait was 30-40 minutes. Been to many water parks, one of the nicer ones.
Gudmundur Oskarsson — Google review
Went here today with a bunch of friends , extremely fun. If you come at opening the lines are much shorter (this continues for the first hour). Now you may be wondering why I took away a star, that is because one of the water slides ‘the skimmer’ a friend and I both got stuck half way and had to use our legs to pull through. Other than that a very enjoyable experience and a good day out. Would recommend to anyone!

Busy place, but we loved it. Spent the day queueing, but that only added to the anticipation and the buzz once our turn came. Favourite rides- the trap door drop and the four person floaty ride, but they're all great.

Lots of fun for all ages and excitement levels, for kids and big kids alike. Had so much fun! Gift shop is amazing and has all the presents you'd even need for taking back home, friendship bands etc and holidays memorabilia. We went as a group of 9 and enjoyed thoroughly 👌🏼

Absolutely amazing day out.
Cheaper than some of the other water parks on this scale. Huge range of slides to go on. Fantastic value for money and a great day out with the kids.
The best rides by far are The big wave, and Boomerang.
We visited early April and didn’t have to queue for a single ride the whole day. Would definitely recommend visiting during off peak times as made for a much more enjoyable day.

Very disappointing that you have to pay to sit down. No seating or bench seats anywhere. Was dropped off just before 10 am when it opened. Had to spend 6 hrs there. Really not good if you have a disabled son. 4hrs would have been plenty of time. And obviously not cheap to buy anything in there. But facilities very good kids really enjoyed it. Biggest problem was seating so take your own chairs unless your young and don't mind sitting on the grass.
Paul owen — Google review
Very clean park with open green spaces to put your stuff down. Can rent chairs for 5€. Just put your stuff down on one and they will come around and collect later. Slides are fun, good food, and it’s an all around great water park. Much cleaner than the parks I have been to in the states. Highly recommend.

Last time i was there, i was myself an young teen and we used to come here as familly during holiday. Now i was myself with my familly there and there wete a lot of new slides and features by then. I loved it as child and now i love it even more because i can share it with my own children

Great day out, food in the café is OK and not expensive and there's loads to do. We were with small children so didn't go on many big slides but the queues weren't too bad. The splash park & slides for younger children were great. There was also the opportunity to hold animals/birds but it was for a few seconds just so they could take a photo and charge a tenner for the picture at the end! (they won't let you take your own).
We had a fish spa which was a good price for 2 and also rented a cabana which for us was well worth the money having somewhere more private to get changed, leave our stuff etc, you also get a fridge and 2 free bottles of water per person.

My trip today marked my 60th visit over 30 years and I must say this place has never disappointed. I came today with my 14 year old son I’m hoping he carries on the tradition of coming every year. Over the 30 years the park has grown immensely however the safety of the park is the main reason I come. Yes the rides are fantastic but I feel relaxed knowing my boy is safe. Just as I was on my first visit 30 years ago. Food options are typical but not overpriced when compared to uk theme parks. Make use of the 2nd day visit then each time to return it’s 12 euros. Surprisingly weekends are quiet days as well as a tues the rest of the week in September it’s busy so you might be queuing 5 mins for a popular ride. Nothing compared to an hour wait at Alton towers for example. Lockers are available however I have never felt like I needed them it’s all very safe.
The big fall was the ride for me this year 👍

The Chapel of Bones in Évora, housed within the Church of St. Francis, is a peculiar tourist spot adorned with the skeletal remains of more than 5,000 monks. These bones were exhumed from nearby cemeteries to create space for additional burials. The walls of this small 16th-century chapel are lined with skulls and body parts in an eerie display that fascinates visitors.
Sure, it’s a little macabre, but the history and uniqueness is worth the trip. The story about why the bones were used, the poem within, and the inscription above the door are beautiful. It’s a fairly small room, especially considering it’s supposedly made up of 5,000 corpses, and most people were in-and-out in less than 5 minutes. The entrance fee is €5, cash or card, and includes some other artifacts, a nativity museum upstairs, and a nice view of the town from the balcony.

A Unique and Thought-Provoking Experience.
Capela dos Os Capela dos Ossos, also known as the Chapel of Bones, is a truly captivating and thought-provoking site. The chapel, adorned with human bones and skulls, offers a glimpse into the fascinating history and mortality of humanity. The atmosphere inside is solemn and eerie, yet it serves as a powerful reminder of our own impermanence. The intricate bone displays and macabre architecture make for a hauntingly beautiful sight. While it may not be for the faint of heart, Capela dos Ossos is an extraordinary and unforgettable attraction, providing a unique perspective on life and death. Highly recommended for those seeking an unconventional and contemplative experience.

The Chapel of Bones itself is very small. It is a single room where most people will spend 5 minutes. It's fascinating and a grim reminder of everyone's mortality.
For the entrance fee, this chapel alone wouldn't be worth it, but the fee also allows access to other areas and displays throughout the church, including hundreds of nativity scenes from around the world, and a small museum with artifacts. My family and I spent an hour or two in these other areas, and we felt it was very much worthwhile for both the time and the entrance fee.
Jeff Eng — Google review
I was expecting something bigger to be honest. The price is a bit high for something that takes you 5min to see. You have access to a small museum though, to the rooftop of the church and to temporary exhibitions (it was the nativity represented around the world when I visited).
Ticket is 5e for adults, 3.5 for students. You can pay by card only from 10e.

A simply amazing place in Évora! Definitely, a must on the list of any traveler. The chapel is beyond impressive and it's unique. The pictures speak for themselves. If you have an issue with seeing bones and death, heads up, there are also mummies exposed there and there are bones all over the walls.

What a interesting place to visit. Literally a chapel built with the remains of thousands plastered into the walls a a memorial to how short life is. History shows a church founded by the Franciscans in 1200. The nativity’s from around the world were a sight to see.

It is an interesting place to visit in Evora, it definitely is something different I have not seen anywhere else. The Chapel of Bones is a small chapel built with bones and skulls on the columns and on the walls all around.
Visiting the Chapel gives a good reminder about the fact that everything is temporary and the explanations in the chapel help give more context about it.
When we visited there were also two mummies of a dad and a son. Included in the ticket you also have an exhibition about the Nativity around the world.
Overall I would say that this is an interesting site and definitely if you are in Evora I would recommend stopping by.

Not recommended for children who are too young. This is a chapel with bones from 5000 people adorning the walls and columns. Part of the museum tour with ticket cost Euro 6.
A unique experience.

Everywhere there is written that’s an unmissable spot and.. couldn’t agree more! The inscription at the entrance gives already chills. And the interiors are really ground for reflection about life and death. Beautiful in a creepy way. Definitely take the time to go and visit it.

The Capela dos Ossos is one of the most visited places in Evora. For me, It was a mix of feelings, scary and impressive. It was built by Franciscan monks. An estimated 5,000 corpses were exhumed to decorate the walls of the chapel. The bones, which came from ordinary people who were buried in Évora's medieval cemeteries, were arranged by the Franciscans in a variety of patterns

Expected more but it’s different then anything I have ever seen. I can’t believe they actually used human bones in the making of this chapel. Some of the artifacts like the picture of the cup are over 1,000 years old. The history in these old countries never ceases to amaze me.
Mario & Luigi — Google review
The ticket cost around 6 euros per person including the museum and the Chapel of Bones. It's quite an experience to see the master mind of architecture of the chapel using real human bones. (If you are a sensitive person, it might be overwhelming).
The museum contains valuable historic paintings and statues of the Catholic church history.

Apart from the bone chapel - which is interesting enough - the rest of the museum has a very cheerful nativity exposition which is really enjoyable. The terrace also has a nice view over Evora. The adjacent church is beautiful (free entrance).

A provoking chapel with bones and skulls all over the walls and pillars. This is an encredible place and is really thought provoking. Besides skulls and bones on the walls there are also two mummies in the chapel. The roof of the chapel is also beautifully decorated. The entrance to the Chapel of Bones and the museum is just 6 euros and is well worth it, there was practically no wait for the tickets. When we visited it was a bit busy but at some times calm. Besides this you also have access to the museum with Christian paintings/religious art and many nativity scenes.

The Chapel of Bones, Evora Portugal is a truly unique and fascinating spot, unlike any other religious building you are likely to encounter. Imagine stepping into a small chapel, every surface intricately decorated with thousands of human bones and sculls. Sculls stare down from the vault above, femurs form arches and ribs line the walls crating a macabre yet oddly beautiful mosaic. Visiting the Chapel of Bones is a thought provoking experience. It’s a powerful reminder of our own mortality and encourages contemplation on life, death, and the eternal cycle of existence.

An amazingly interesting site! The bone chapel is just a small part of the entire property. I believe it was €10, which for us, was worth it! It’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before!! We purchased tickets on site and there was no wait during a weekend at in June.

One of my favourite monuments in Portugal, a grim yet beautiful reminder of our mortality. The entry includes visiting the museum, which is also reccomend for both its historic religious pieces and their collection of nativity scenes from all over

Amazing experience coming to see the chapel of the bones. A bit macabre for sure, but the Franciscan monks in the 16th century thought this was appropriate since the local cemeteries were being reclaimed and they were trying to save the bones.

All round amazing place. Beautiful blue sea lovely sandy beach, and restaurants all around and all just an hour south of Lisbon!
Was booked as part of an excursion from TripAdvisor (again highly recommend) nd we arrived before midday. There were still a number of people so would recommend getting early. There were a number of people doing activities including kayaking, swimming, fishing, snorkeling and more.
Highly recommend to any other tourists visiting Lisbon.
Alfama, an ancient district in Lisbon, is characterized by steep streets where traditional crafts shops and cafes can be found. The historic no. 28 tram passes through Alfama on its way to São Jorge Castle, giving passengers a panoramic view of the city and the River Tagus from Miradouro da Graça terrace. In the evening, one can listen to melancholy Fado music while dining at some of the area's long-standing restaurants.
The Oceanario de Lisboa is a large aquarium in Lisbon, Portugal which showcases a wide variety of aquatic species. It's divided into four habitat zones, and the central tank is home to an impressive array of sealife. The attraction is great for children, and there are plenty of other sights and attractions in the surrounding area too.
Certainly the best aquarium I've ever been to. So peaceful and relaxing. The animals look well cared for with lots of space. There is plenty of space to sit and observe the large tank with the sharks, rays and more. More expensive than most tourist attractions in Lisbon - but well worth the cost.

I recently visited this aquarium and it was an incredible experience! The variety of sea life on display was truly impressive, and I was in awe of the vibrant colors and intricate details of each exhibit.
The aquarium is very well-maintained and clean, and the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They were happy to answer any questions I had and even provided interesting facts about the different species of fish and marine life.
One of the highlights of my visit was the large tank with several different species of sharks swimming gracefully around. It was an incredible sight to behold, and I could have spent hours just watching them swim.
Overall, I highly recommend visiting this aquarium. It's a great place to learn about sea life and appreciate the beauty of our oceans. I can't wait to go back and explore more of what this wonderful attraction has to offer.

Love this place. Make sure you allocate lots of time to actually enjoy it. Lots of people and tends to be quiet busy so be prepared for that. Average time spent here I’d say is 2-3h. They have a gift shop at the end (of course) and a nice little eatery place.

Now this is how an ocean aquarium should look like everywhere. It is so clean, well maintained, with healthy biodiversity. It is not very big, but it screams quality over quantity. And don't get me wrong, it is not lacking diversity or things to see, oh no. It has everything you want to see in an aquarium and designed in a very smart way. I go to the local aquarium anywhere in the world, where I travel despite the fact that I also dive a lot, but I have to say, this is one of the best ones. Great job.

My partner and I had an amazing time here! This was top of my favorite places we had ventured off to in Lisbon, and highly recommended! The time and effort it took to get this place off the ground and operations is absolutely remarkable (all explained in a video inside, highly recommended to watch before going through it all!)
You have two options, you can wait for a cheap night kind of like a cocktail hour! but the line can be fairly long and typically a family things with children (cheaper so makes sense!) If its just two...i would recommend going anytime!

In Europe this is one of the best aquariums available. It’s quite big, a great place to visit and has a great collection aquatic creatures. Well maintained and worth the time.
The Underwater Forest is gorgeous, so take a moment to sit down and appreciate it instead of rushing past it.
The aquarium in general can be very crowded and busy, so don’t go during the weekend, but go during the week.

Easily one of the best aquariums I've been to. The design and layout of the place is very well thought-out, with the central 'main' tank being visible from a total of 8 main viewing windows across two floors and several smaller windows; the benefit of this is that you don't get the usual crowding of the main exhibits and when we visited on a Monday afternoon we were able to take our time in taking in the incredible atmosphere of the underwater landscape. It's amazing how close you can get to the stars of the show unlike other aquariums. The building is divided up into quarters, each relating to a different part of the world. There were some very surprising exhibits like the sea otters and penguins. I liked the inclusion of seabirds too. Finally, I loved the message of the aquarium, was particularly surprised to hear Carl Sagan's pale blue dot monologue in one of the rooms, very much sums up the message they want to leave you with. A must-visit place if you enjoy aquariums.

An amazing aquarium to visit in Lisbon! Outside the building stood a tall mascot resembling a scuba diver, welcoming us upon entry. Once inside, we were greeted by walls adorned with blue Portuguese azulejo tiles, evoking the depths of the ocean. To reach the main building, we crossed a bridge. The aquarium was well-curated, boasting a diverse array of marine life and fish species, alongside a large glass tank at the center of the building. Undoubtedly, it ranks among the world's best aquariums, offering an experience worth every penny! Suitable for visitors of all ages, I highly recommend a visit to this remarkable place!

An exceptionally awesome place. Everyone irrespective of the age would enjoy this place. Make sure you aim to spend at least two to three hours here. We were here for 1 1/2 hours but we felt that it was too short. It has a wide variety of fishes and other species. The place is very well maintained. If you are visiting Lisbon, make sure to include this in your itinerary.

A very large Oceanarium with a huge central ocean basin that is the main attraction. This can be viewed from different locations and from different levels. You practically walk all around it.
There are also numerous other aquariums and areas to explore. Penguins, reef fish, a giant octopus and more. There is also a tropical forest.
Children can have fun with a little diver. This is available as a figure or in digital form and playfully teaches waste prevention and explains how life in the ocean works.
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the restaurant on the second floor. The ambience did not seem very inviting. However, there was a nicely designed bistro on the first floor after the store with delicious food and very friendly staff.
We also enjoyed the additional exhibition "Forests under Water" on the upper floor near the entrance.
The entrance fee for 2 adults and one child was just under 60€. Unfortunately, we could not buy the online ticket because the website did not allow correct information when entering the mobile phone number (too few characters possible in the input field, country code can not be entered).
So we stood in line for about 15 minutes, so it went quite quickly at the ticket line.
In total we were there almost 5h, a great day in a fascinating place, especially in bad weather.

I had an incredible time at the Lisbon's aquarium, it's probably the best one I have ever been to. Hands down even better than Sea Life in London!
All the tanks are so well kept which made it enjoyable to walk through the aquarium. There's a massive pool / tank right in the middle of the aquarium which has so many different fish (including sharks!!). We absolutely enjoyed our visit and would definitely recommend.

This aquarium has some pretty neat fish, sharks, starfish, and more. Overall, there were a lot of cool things to see here. However, we went during the happy hour, which gave us a big discount on ticket prices, and this ended up kind of tainting our experience here. It was so packed that you had to wait and then squeeze yourself through loads of people just to be able to see any of the exhibits. While we day pay only 7.50 per person, it may be worth it to pay the normal price for a less crowded experience.

Cane to visit during our first trip to Lisbon, totally worth it. A little out of the way from the city but easy to get to. A great idea for a date day. Would recommend going in the evening (around 4 or 5pm) when it’s less crowded. The underwater forest is a must see

I highly recommend checking this out with your family if you are in town! It was incredible!

The place is absolutely amazing and very good for learning as much as enjoying. the superstars of the place are the two magnificent giant artic otters.

Absolutely blown away by the marine section, spent over and hour just in there exploring all the differing environments. And seeing how all the inhabitants interact with their environment.
And then onto the main reason for coming, to sit and admire Amano sans masterpiece. To just sit and take in the sheer scale of the plants and how they have grown to gigantic proportions. To admire the fish and seeing them meander amongst the plants was stunning.
Flown from the UK just for this, and was worth it. Will be coming multiple times during my stay, just so I can absorb the ambience at leisure.

We had a great time here, me and my 2 boys (3 & 4) visited and loved it. We went off peak so we didn't have a problem with it being too busy. We got to see lots of animals and learn a lot. I loved how different it was to other aquariums I've been to and it was cleaned and well maintained. Sea otters were my favourite

Excellent aquarium, lots of different sea creatures to see and many spots to view the main tank from. The main tank is by far the main attraction because of its immense size and diversity of creatures living together including a surprisingly large school of fish. The animals almost all appear to be happier and more engaged than at other aquariums we've been too because they are less crowded in their tanks. My main recommendation is to not waste too much time trying to look at the main tank at the beginning of the path because they are often the most crowded. Instead, go to less crowded viewing areas later on.

This place was amazing! They have a huge tank in the middle with all kinds of fishes and baby sharks and the aquarium was built around the tank so no matter where you go or which floor, you have a view of this tank. They have benches for you to sit and just take in the view, peace and quiet. I loved the penguin section and watching the otters swim. It is a must if you are visiting Lisbon.

Not the best aquarium in the world as advertised but still fine. Always crowded during Summer and on weekends. Book in advance. During the visit do not forget to spend time with the otters. They are amazing creatures.

I loved everything about this place. The staff was fantastic, courteous, and were multilingual. The displays were huge. I mean huge. There's a giant tank in the middle that you can stop and see in-between seeing all of the other exhibits. And all of the exhibits were incredibly educational (great for kids), and fun to watch. None of them felt forced, it was just the animals in their "natural" environment. I strongly advise going here for a day trip. You can also bundle tickets for the cable cars in with your ticket to the aquarium, so you can quickly and easily get to the mall and restaurant strip ~1KM away

My boyfriend and I both loved it! We were in Lisbon on vacation and discovered that they had this aquarium that was really well known. (How I missed it in my planning, I don't know!) I love going to aquariums in the cities I visit and I think this was probably my favorite after Atlanta's aquarium. There were a lot of exhibits, information was posted all around so you could know what you were looking at, and the animals were all really active! We got to watch the puffins get fed and that was a lot of fun. Their ocean tank in the middle was massive and you could see it from every angle as you walked the building. We spent I think 3 hours there and were in no rush, so I would say you want at least an hour or two set aside for it. Overall, great experience and I would definitely recommend making a stop while you are in Lisbon.

The Convent of Christ in Tomar, Portugal is a Roman Catholic convent built in the ornate Manueline style and surrounded by 12th-century walls. Formerly the headquarters of the powerful Knights Templar in Portugal during the 12th to 16th centuries, this UNESCO World Heritage site played a significant role in funding the Age of Discoveries.
Was very very interesting and amusing to see this historical building. If you like seeing the architecture and all divisions of historic buildings then this one is a must. Totally worth it for us. Plus you have the Castle walls and garden to walk arround as well.

Fantastic place to visit. A huge erstwhile convent, with high quality renaissance buildings, wonderful ceiling painting, beautiful cloisters, dormitories, kitchens and dining halls. There are also beautiful gardens. There has been good past renovation and this is still on going.
We spent several hours there in a family group aged 4 to 67 and all enjoyed it.
Good café with refreshments available. Small high quality gift shop.

Utterly spellbinding and beguiling what a place. Atop the hill above Tomer is the last refuge in Europe of the Knights Templar . Well worth the €6 to get in the archtecture and history within these walls is jot to be missed . If you are in Portugal this is a must see.

A UNESCO heritage site, well worth the visit. The entry fee for adults is €10. The cathedral is very unique and one of its kind. You need 1-2 hours to see this place.
There is parking outside.
There is a cafe and WC on site

Magnificent Templar structure including a temple, chapter house and castle situated imposingly on a hill overlooking the town of Tomar. The centerpiece of the temple, the octagonal Charola, is particularly stunning even though its colours have faded overtime. Although sadly parts have fallen into ruin, the adjacent chapter house is also impressive with its spiral staircases at either end taking you up to and down from the upper level. The faded facades are also well worth examining.

Amazing place to visit in Tomar. That's a very ancient castle built by templars, and it's huge with a lot of sightseeing spots on the valley below. Totally recommend to go, although bare in mind that you may loose some time in finding a parking spot: it's usually pretty crowded during the summer, and you'll need to pay a small parking bill (1.2€ for one hour and a half)
Matteo Principe — Google review
If you are in Tomar (even if you don’t love history) you must visit the Convent. It is one of the most beautiful places you can visit in Santarem and is steeped in history. You can get a glimpse of where the monks lived in the 15th century, see priceless works of art and marvel at incredible architecture. The Convent is much bigger than what it seems and there are many things to discover, so set aside about 3-4 hours for the complete tour.
Charlie Fripp — Google review
Breathtaking. A must see! The cathedral and convent have been under construction for some time... But slowly it's being revealed and it's outstanding!
Parking can be difficult but don't give up and also don't forget to pay. There is a pay station there in the culdesac. Also located there is a nice cafe. A pleasure to take a coffee ☕ break.
Pro tip: Walk around the side of the structure and look for the aqueduct. It is the end 6 km long structure built in the 15th century. :)

Amazing historical experience with monastery cloisters, bakery, cisterns, patios and nice views. Combines different styles and architectural features but the highlight is the church interior. You can see it all in few hours or squeeze it in about an hour or so if you rush through the cloisters and patios.

Amazing place and a must see. You could
just imagine what life was like during those times. We went in winter and spent 2 hrs just exploring, there was not many tourist at all. There is a nice cafe outside the Castello for coffee and drinks.

Spent 3 hours through the cloisters and rooms of this medieval monastery and castle. Worth the trip, with all its intricate art works and functional spaces. The only regret was that the administrating authority could be collecting the tree-laiden orange trees, rather then let them be destroyed by birds or fall off the branches as they ripen😂 maybe cross-feed the cafetaria with free/fresh orange juice. Wasted opportunity 😔

An enigmatic place with almost nine centuries of history.
The most impressive place was the Charola, which was the private oratory of the Knights Templar, inside the fortress.
I strongly advise you to go with a guide, as it makes the experience much more enriching. Otherwise many of the details would be missed.
It was a pity there were several areas under renovation, and some not very well cared for, but overall it was well worth the visit.
Gon?alo Peres — Google review
Unlike some other convents around PT that are too crowded to enjoy, this one is still not receiving as many tourists so going around feels so much more intimate (and spiritual). Absolutely gorgeous building, putting many other monuments to shame, with dozens of little nooks. Hopefully the areas currently under renovation will be available to visit soon. Would recommend a hike from the Aqueduct to the convent and then on to the castle.

Been there during winter time. Literally had the whole place on our own. But don't be mistaken. This is a place you shouldn't be missed when in Tomar. But better to rent a car as it quite out of the way. Absolutely gorgeous and historical.

It's a wonder for sure. You really go back in time in this one. The building of the church it's completely renovated/cleaned (including the iconic Manuelin window). Most of the cloisters still need renovations.. still it's a must visit place. Huge with a lot to see. Even the surroundings are very pretty.

This place was magical. However, it would be good to see more about the knights. The kitchen could have been decked out. One room could be furnished so that we can see how those who stayed at the convention lived.

Highly recommended. The convent is inside the fortress and is one of the most beautiful we have ever been to. A spectacular place with gothic paintings.

Go back in time and immerse yourself in the mystery around the knights templar. The Convent of Christ is a must visit in the area, not only by its historical importance, but also by its marvelous architecture, being a great example of the Portuguese renaissance style called Arte Manuelina, which is beautifully identified on the Chapterhouse Window. Note: reduced ticket fee for students

The Basilica of Lady of the Rosary is a church located in the Sanctuary of Fatima, Portugal. It was built in 1928 and consecrated in 1954. The church is notable for its tall tower and intricate reliefs depict various scenes from the life of Mary.
I am not sure the essence of this place can truly be communicated in a review. It is a beautiful Basilica in a wonderful religious square. The architecture, while regal and impressive, remains understated to the spirit and purpose of this place as appropriate.
Come here and rest, breathe, contemplate and let go. Offer and visit the tombs of the children. Pray for them and the world and all.
I hope to have the opportunity to visit often.

In general you can’t really say anything bad about religious sites especially when they are so well kept. If you’re just sight seeing it’s kind of cool but there are by far more beautiful churches in Portugal and around Europe. If it’s the prayer and community that draws you enjoy yourself. The experience outside of the church seemed a little bit ‘commercial’ and maybe even slightly irreverent but that’s just my take. Either way worth the visit atleast once. Kind of cool to hear about miracles and holy sites in somewhat modern history.

Sanctuary of light. Here is the resting place of the 3 shepherds : Lucía, Saint Jacinta and Saint Francisco Marto. One of the rare places in Europe that I can sense palpable lights of healing, solace and concretely closer to the divine.
Pilgrims, monks and nuns from all over the world come to receive blessings. Sunday service and in church concerts are also beautiful.

This is one of two minor basilicas within the Sanctuary of Fatima grounds. It is located at the northeast end and flanked by long colonnades.
The exterior features a single tower with niche and statue of Our Lady of Fatima along with a cross and crown topping the steeple. The interior is a barrel vault shaped nave with modest decoration. Side chapels have gilded altars and contemporary stained glass windows and other artworks. You'll see the tombs of the shepherd children who experienced the apparitions on the sides of the main altar.

Visiting Our Lady of the Rosary Basilica in Fatima during World Youth Day 2023 was an unforgettable experience. The beauty and serenity of the Mass touched my soul, and hearing the “Our Father” and other liturgical prayers spoken in numerous languages was profoundly moving. It was a poignant reminder of the true universality of the Catholic Church, uniting people from all corners of the world. The architecture, the atmosphere, and the shared sense of faith created an inspiring and deeply connecting experience. Whether a person of faith or simply a lover of history and culture, this Basilica is a must-visit.

I feel so fortunate that I had the opportunity to visit. FYI, if you're looking for keepsakes of your visit, there are surrounding shops to get them. The Basilica does not sell anything. A word of caution: lots of pickpockets there. Aside from that, we had the opportunity to attend the last half of Mass at the modern Basilica which was done in Portuguese. It was a blessing to be there.

Imposing building, both in its richly decorated exterior as well as the impresive interior, with its towering pillars and ceiling, well preserved tombs and sanctuaries, statue niches and secondary holies. Cherish and absorb the tranquillity and silence of the main hall and side corridors, even at the peak of visiting hours.

Go out of tourist season! When we did it was reasonably quiet, it's a massive place, full of beautiful items, half a day minimum to see it well. There are no toilet facilities after the barrier, the only place is in the entry area. There's no food or drink areas, there are no places to sit apart from the occasional chair used by the staff. If you are older this makes the visit really quite a trial but it's worth it.

Really spectacular place to visit!!
Full of history and really amazing architecture, established in 1153 and a UNESCO World heritage site, you really can't skip this one.
Entry to the church itself is free of charge and you can see the tombs of Inês de Castro and King Pedro I. Make sure to read up on their love story before visiting the site for more context.
The Monastery has paid entry but so worth it!! You can buy tickets online or in person.
If going with little ones, notice the family price for a better deal.
Washroom located inside, but no lockers.

Cheap ticket prices and amazing view from the outside. Once inside, only the architecture may keep you interested. Otherwise not much history to read or view.

First of the “holy trinity” around Fátima (the “ABC”). Has the benefit of not being too busy when we were there. A beautiful place with a decent amount of history available. The tour path is well designed (one of the most efficient we’ve encountered on our trip, just keep turning left). There’s a document guide you can download via Google drive (but it did not work for me).
Paid onsite parking is available and there’s a ton of food options across the street. So glad we were able to visit.

The Batalha Monastery, a grand Gothic structure constructed over 150 years, was built to commemorate the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385. The monument's majority was finished by 1434 in Flamboyant Gothic style with Manueline touches added in the 15th and 16th centuries, including the "unfinished chapels." The architecture is diverse due to three different architects who designed and constructed it.
Quite amazing that it was built in xiv and xv century, the precision and detail of the masons still very evident. Most amazing is the water supply system that is still operating. No machines!. It is a functioning church, performing weddings and baptisms and daily mass.Well worth a visit or two, then a nice lunch in one of to the many restaurants. The cloister of Batalha is one of the most beautifull monastaries in Portugal or even in the world. It took more than a century to build and it was one of the first gothic buildins in Portugal as new techniques and styles were demonstrated for the first time. The high ceiling of the sober church is highly contrasted to the overwhelming Manueline style decorations of the unfinished chapels. Many kings are buried here and it still remains a place where battles are remembered: it was build to comemorate the Portuguese victory over the Castilians in the battle of Aljubarrota in 1385 and it also houses the resting place of two unknown Portuguese soldiers of the first world war, still flanked by two honor guards in the Chapterhouse. The ceiling of this Chapterhouse has a spanning of 19 metres and is said to be build by condemned prisoners as it was such a daring task to perform. The Royal cloister has some highly decorated arcade screens and highly decorated colonettes. The unfinished chapels were transformed by Mateus Fernandes into a masterpiece of Manueline style where it is hard to imagine that is actually build out of stone.

Very touristy, but worth seeing. There are so many attractions around! Viewing points, walking trails, tram lift, little chapel, light house, and of course beach and sea, with plenty of water sports!

We visited on a cold and wet January, but the village still has charm. An excellent beach and a multitude of restaurants - albeit of varying quality.
Without a doubt, the waves are spectacular, and a walk to the lighthouse is worth the effort.

Beautiful wide, sandy beach with astonishing views. Perfect place to chill, get a nap or just to enjoy your holidays.
The water is kinda cold, so don't expect spending a lot of time in the water. Getting a ball to play football or volleyball is a must!

Beautiful place! Soft sand, right in the town, glorious waves, freezing water😂

It's a great experience to swim here. Constant waves, which are not small and can easily knock you over if you're not careful. It's a large beach, but the lifeguards constantly supervise and immediately warn you if you go too far. The sand is deep, making it difficult to walk, and it's also hot and prickly to walk barefoot. The restroom is very far from the shore.

This is a magnificent beach. The waves are strong and beautiful, the beach is clean of litter and there is a coast guard watching over the beach goers. The air is fresh and we can do yoga, jogging and exercises there besides hanging out with family and friends.
Sunsets are beautiful and on a clear night, you can see the stars and moon in stunning clarity.
Along the beach you will see seafood being dried and sold. It’s truly unique.

Large, open, clean beach full of people and everything you'd really need. As a big tourist place, it has a myriad of stores, restaurants, doughnuts and much more.
Due to COVID, showers are out of order and if you're camping near, or on the beach, better find somewhere to maintain hygiene.

Stunning view from the ocean right ate the arrival and an even more glorious beach when you get there. Traffic may be a little chaotic on summer but definitely worth it.

Although you can find the big waves on the other side of the fortress, the waves here can still be impressive on stormy days. The beach is huge, which is useful when the crowds of people come during the summer days. The adjacent boulevard with fish racks and perpendicular street of Nazaré are wonderful places to stroll through. I love to climb higher up the hill and see the small streets merge with the sea down below.

Nice walk near the ocean. In April-September here is calm ocean, you can sunbathe and swim. From October to March it’s the best place to see giant waves.

An amazing beach in Portugal, possibly one of the best sites in Europe to watch a sunset. All services are available, during summertime. It does get crowded, however there's plenty of space available. Dedicated space for sports such as football and volleyball. Highly recommended.

Being undoubtedly the busiest beach on the west coast, Nazareth is one of the most traditional fishing villages, where some women dressed in the traditional seven skirts costume can still be found, taking care of the dry -dry fish, aligned on piles. The beach, completely integrated into the urban area and surrounded by the Marginal houses, retains the traditional canvas tents with strong colours stripes. Bathed by a normally brave sea with strong ripple, it is ideal for surfing and bodyboarding.
The Biblioteca Joanina, a magnificent Baroque library constructed in the 18th century and named after its patron King John V of Portugal, is situated within the Paco das Escolas. This opulent establishment lies at the center of Coimbra University, housed in a charming historic edifice. Its interior is simply awe-inspiring; adorned with exotic wood, tasteful embellishments, and exquisite shelving units.
One of the most amazing places I have ever seen. Unfortunately, no pictures allowed! But I have to admit that the library has a jaw-dropping effect :) there are about 60,000 books dating as early as the 15th century! Inside it looks like a palace. And what’s more interesting- at night they let the bats in to kill all the insects, so they cover the furniture.
All pictures are taken in the place before you go into the main room where no pictures are allowed! Before the library you are allowed to see the university prison for about 5-7 min.
You will have about 10 minutes in the main part of the library, which is quite enough to walk around. You need to come specifically at the appointed time (tickets bought in advance and what is strange they are bought like 3 blocks away from the library). If you come earlier you will be allowed to sit on the benches inside and wait for the tour to start.

Biblioteca Joanina is an ornate 17th century Baroque Library. Paid 13 Euro and you have 10-15 mins access, the upper hall was totally unlit and reliant on outside window light - plus all the reading tables were covered with cloth. To top it off - no photos allowed. Totally overpriced.

A library filled with 500 year old books with 3 stories. The main floor is beautiful baroque.
Unfortunately you are not allowed to take photos of the baroque room anymore.
In don't understand the negative reviews.
John M — Google review
It is a beautiful library. Please keep in mind in advance that you cannot take photos when you are inside. A timed entry ticket is required. Please also keep in mind that the first two floors are ONLY steps, not very inclusive in design. I had to ask an info person to a more accessible entrance for a loved with limited mobility to enter on the third floor. I wish this information was available in advance, so come ahead of your booked time.
Smitha Mahesh — Google review
A nice historical library well maintained, preserved with controlled admission and no photography allowed in the main building. It is required to manage, monitor crowds otherwise history will be lost.
Tickets can be purchased online or at one of the ticket centers in the university. Paid parking is available in the university area and nearby.
You have to be at the entrance a few minutes before the scheduled time and not later. Photos are allowed in the first room and not in the main library rooms. Visitors have to respect it and also be mindful of the time allowed inside. The inside architecture is baroque with a royal feel and the woodwork with books from history is amazing to view and preserve in our memories.
This may not be one of the top libraries but definitely a place to visit for anyone who loves books and history
Pradeep Ponnuswamy — Google review
Go to the website, select the time entry to the library and that same ticket will allow you to enter other university buildings. The time entry only applies to the library.
The visit is only 20 minutes. The first 10 minutes is to see the prison chambers and then the overflow of books on the second floor. The second 10 minutes is finally for the main attraction, you can’t take pick tires or videos so absorb as much as you can while you are there.
It’s definitely worth the visit.
Karla Rodríguez — Google review
Nice interior, but unfortunately way too overpriced (13.5€ per person).
Also, you get limited 10mins time inside the library and no photos policy makes it feel a bit too pricey for what you get...

The Juanin Library is considered one of the richest Baroque libraries in Europe. It was built between 1717 and 1728. It is located in the most central part of the University of Coimbra, near Escolas. The building was built to house the university library with a collection of over 300,000 volumes dating from before 1800 and a large collection of the Old Testament. They are launched only in groups of 15-20 people. Starting from the lower floor, where the prison was located and then upstairs. You can't take photos in the library itself.
I recommend you to visit. It is even possible without a guide, as there are information sheets on each floor.
Roman Gravit — Google review
The Joanina Library is an exponent of baroque art. It is considered one of the most beautiful libraries in the world. It was built in the early 18th century by order of King John V, motivated by a request from the University of Coimbra to expand its old library.
Its architecture is generally compared to a temple (secular), to worship Wisdom (also another name to refer to the university). However, this work tells a lot about the greatness of Portugal, as you can see in the interior decoration. Portugal in the early 18th century was a powerful empire spread across the four continents. Its economy shone with the discovery of extensive deposits of gold in the colony of Brazil at the end of the previous century. In this context, generous amounts were invested in the library, which is reflected in all its exuberance.
The library doors open every 20 minutes. In the summer (between the second week of July and the second week of September), there are night visits to the Royal Palace, which includes the library, when it can be seen as it rarely is. Tickets for tours that include the Joanina Library are sold at the General Library building reception.

Very impressive and the most beautiful library I ever been into. However there are minuses (and reasons for the low rating):
- you either buy tickets in advance or walk about a mile to the office to buy them. You only realise it at the place
- they do not allow to take photos in the main hall. Again, you only know it when you start the tour. Though they do allow take photos at the entrance room
- they deleted all previous reviews for many years (by deleting their place on google and then reinstating it) - probably because they did not want the photos to be published. I believe in freedom of information.
So, I reinstated the updated review lowering the rating from previous 4 to current 2 starts. All my photos were taken from the room they allowed to take photos.

Coimbra University, a multi-disciplinary institution with centuries-old structures and botanical gardens, is renowned worldwide as a World Heritage Site. It stands among the oldest universities globally and boasts an exceptional library, gifted by King Joao V in the early 1700s. This remarkable collection of 300,000 books is elegantly showcased amidst an opulent display of gold leaf.
Great Acts Room
This space is the most important room at the University of Coimbra. It was the former Throne Room and, between 1143 and 1383, was the home of the kings of the 1st Portuguese dynasty. In it, important episodes in the History of Portugal took place, such as the acclamation of King D. João I, in 1385. With the installation of the University in the Palace, this space became the main room of the University of Coimbra, as it is here that the most important ceremonies of academic life.
The current configuration of this room results from the renovation that was carried out in the mid-17th century. The walls were covered with wainscoting of “carpet type” tiles, made in Lisbon. The ceiling, with 172 wooden panels, features grotesque motifs (representing sea monsters, Indians, mermaids, plants).

someone very close to me used to say this, Portugal will be a great place without the Portuguese ppl. University of Coimbra has beautiful buildings with astonishing history, great students with studious attitude and desire to experience life, but some senior staffs (at least to my experience) can be a tiny little.bit of conservative and old fashioned. I understand why they reacted this way when a person speaking to them a language they did not understand. But still, a tiny smile wouldn't hurt. ok, I know 99.99% of Portuguese are lovely, especially the young ones, but still, for my psychological health, I need to rant~

I mean it is made of different massive buildings and it looks really nice. There is a great history behind it. The only thing is that some parts of the university are subject to entrance fee and it sounds not right.

Quite an interesting place to visit, though I had to admit I expected to see more rooms. Some were closed for restoration or not allowed to be seen by tourists, etc. There is a chance to see the library, the chapel and the botanical gardens as well. Definitely see the library- it is the highlight of the tour for sure! One thing that I believe is strange is that you need to buy tickets like 3 blocks away and then walk to the university- what’s the sense? It’s a mystery and inconvenience for sure.
Anya Nura — Google review
Paid museum areas (library and chapel) let down by clock watching staff pushing you to go either faster or slower. Not really sure what the reason was, I see no need for such overly strict enforcement of time. If it’s for covid it’s completely counter intuitive as it squashed everyone together.

Coimbra University is one of the oldest in Europe dating back to late 13 century, and still the biggest one in Portugal.
Visiting it's grounds is the best thing you can do in this town. There're several types of tickets, depending how much you want to see.
We found the basic ticket (around 12 Euros) to be more than sufficient as it includes the Chemical laboratory, University Palace (which served as seat of power in 12-13 c when Coimbra was a capital), as well the astonishing Sao Miguel Chapel and Joanina Library.
BEWARE you cannot buy tickets on the spot at the University square. Tickets for the entire University complex are sold across the Chemical Laboratory which is around the corner of the new Se Cathedral (some 10 min walk from the University square itself). Very illogical, but that's it - do that first to avoid double walking like we did. Count on around 2-3 hours for entire visit.

Coimbra university is the oldest and most famous in Portugal. A Unesco heritage site is an absolute must for the visitor. It takes some time to wander around and inside the various buildings. Climbing the stairway up the roof is not for the timid people and gives a wonderful view around the city. The old royal chappel is nice. Nevertheless the jewel in the crown is the old library, Biblioteca Joanina in baroque style. You must book your ticket to it in advance, as you may find it sold out. You also need a guide. I payed 20 euros to join the guided tour at 11am on Sunday. The tour is normally in Portuguese only. As it happened that I was the only tour member(!!) I had the guide to myself and also available for some questions in english. There were several other groups. It takes close to an hour and half to follow any tour. No pictures are allowed in the library but my money was well invested.

What a beautiful university. The buildings are mesmerising. It is located above the hills so we can see Coimbra from the top. Make sure to visit Joanina library because it is so beautiful. One of the most beautiful libraries in the world. You need to buy tickets in advance and there is a timed visit for the library. They only have a guided visit for the library because the library is very old and they want to preserve the interior. Worth to visit.

The university of Coimbra is a university with a long history. There are its school palace, clock tower, university prison, chapel inside. It take functions as an observatory that overlooks the entire city of coimbra, because it was located on a hill. The huge statue of the university's founder in the playground is a sight to see. There are buildings built between 16th and 18th centuries, and students are still studying in those buildings. In particular, the Joania library built in 18th century have many books, gorgeous books bindings, and bookshelves. Those give us a glimpse of how important the king and the country placed books.

Passadiços do Paiva Trailhead (Areinho) offers a stunning 5.5-mile wooden walkway along the Paiva River, providing breathtaking views of the valley. The well-maintained 8km trail allows for side-by-side walking and leads to the Arouca 516m suspension bridge, although reservations are necessary due to limited availability. This picturesque route showcases untouched landscapes, crystal-clear river waters, and endangered European species.
A great 8km (5mile) walk that is well maintained and allows you to walk two abreast on a very clear path. There is the option of taking in the Arouca 516m suspension bridge but you will need to book ahead as places are very limited. The walk itself is a great way to see the Paiva valley and gets you close to nstire.
If you are walking in one direction then the majority of people walk downstream. This involves a 1.5 km walk up to the highest point of the trail followed by 0.5km of descent via 600+steps and the remainder of the trail is a meander to the end. Jeeps and taxis are available at both ends and it is a 12km trip back to the start via the road.
If you are doing a return trip then start wherever suits you best just be prepared to go up relentlessly for 0.5km at some stage. There are restaurants at both ends and plenty of river beaches and alike to stop at for a picnic /rest /swim!
We went in late March on a Monday and parking was easy and the route was not busy but in the height of the summer they can get 3,000 people a day which may take some of the enjoyment out of the day. Parking is limited and there are very limited alternative parking locations within 1km. If you are thinking of going in the summer I can imagine a very early start would not only avoid the congestion (road and trails) but also be cooler and more interesting light.
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did

We only hiked the vertical section from the main road up to the base of the suspension bridge. Be prepared for about 300 metres of vertical gain, all in nice wooden stairs - definitely a knee workout. Beautiful views from the top. The Paiva Walkways are located on the left bank of the Paiva River, in the municipality of Arouca, district of Aveiro. There are 8 km that provide an "untouched" tour, surrounded by landscapes of unparalleled beauty, in an authentic natural sanctuary, next to whitewater descents, quartz crystals and endangered species in Europe. The route extends between the river beaches of Areinho and Espiunca, with Vau beach between the two. The Paiva Walkways are an 8.7 km wooden walkway, built along the cliffs of from Paiva. They are located about 75 km southeast of Porto, within the Arouca Unesco Global Geopark. This incredible attraction, due to its unique beauty, has already been awarded 10 times in the World Travel Awards. The 516 Arouca Bridge is the longest suspended pedestrian bridge in the world, measuring 516 meters in length and 175 meters in height. Suspended on Tibetan-style steel cables, the 516 Arouca Bridge was a great challenge for Engineering. This impressive structure joins the banks of the Paiva River Gorge, over the beautiful Cascata das Aguieiras. Next to us, the Paiva River flows in an almost musical way, rising its flow in the winter period, extending the adrenaline of its wild waters to the adventurers of rafting and kayaking. Along the shore, the journey begins in the bathing areas of Areinho and/or Espiunca, and halfway along the route, the small paradise of the leisure and leisure area of Vau opens up in front of us. It's the eight kilometers of a lifetime. Project co-financed by «ON2 – O Novo Norte», through QREN and the European Regional Development Fund.

That's a wonderful hike along a wooden pathway that runs along the river. Unfortunately we arrived a bit late around 17:20 and we initially wanted to walk back and forth the 8kms.
It would take approximately 2h for us one way but we did not have enough time so we walked back from 3/4 of the route.
The walk is easy on the path but there are quite a lot of stairs and during a warm day it can become moderate difficulty.
There are beautiful sports along the way and if you have enough time it definitely is a relaxing hike! I highly recommend planning your visit here.

Luís I Bridge is an iconic arched bridge in Porto, connecting the city to Vila Nova de Gaia. It carries a low-level road and a high-level metro line, offering stunning views of the surrounding area. The route along the bridge includes notable landmarks such as Praca da Liberdade, Torre dos Clerigos, Livraria Lello bookshop, and more.
It’s one of most beautiful locations in Porto hence a must visit. Take a walk on the bridge and do a cable car, costs €6 per ticket and have a nice walk along the river with plenty of options to eat and drink. You can come back through the cable car by buying a return ticket for €9. It becomes really beautiful during the sunset time.

This bridge. It’s just stunning. Its like the centre piece in an art gallery. It ties the city together. Quite literally. There is no path by it. You will cross it a lot, either on food or in the Metro. And you’ll love it. What a mere steel structure can conjure up is simply amazing. Can’t miss in any list in Porto. 100% Full recommendation! 👌🏽🤩

This is the most beautiful attraction in Porto. When you walk along the top of the bridge, the height seems prohibitive, the view of the city on the river and the trams that rush past is wonderful. The only moment the bridge is partially under reconstruction now, and almost half of the lower part is covered with building films.

This is another great piece of architecture in Porto and a definitive must-see and do. If you want to cross the river Douro, then this is a great way to do so. Be it on the lower level or on the top level.
For the amazing city views of course you should head to the top. There are some cable-cars passing the bridge. But not very frequently, so there's a lot of space, even though full with visitors. There's always a gap to be found to take in the views or to take some pics.
At its construction, its 172 metres span was the longest of its type in the world. The construction was to be administered by Théophile Seyrig, a disciple of Gustave Eiffel. It was inaugurated on October 31st, 1886.
There are many reasons to come to this bridge. The city views, the river Douro views. Or for the bridge itself and its stunning architecture and history.

The absolute best way to get from Porto city centre to the south side of the Douro River. You are sharing the narrow bridge with other pedestrians, bikes and trams, so stay alert. Additionally, the railing is surprisingly short for the height of the bridge: if you suffer from vertigo, do not take this route!
Mark Wendorf — Google review
It's a must visit place in Porto, and as a pedestrian crossing the top level with trams and sidewalks. On either side and especially to the south you can walk to viewing points to look back and marvel at the engineering, design and beauty of the bridge. From the top of the bridge, you can get good views of Porto, the south and the Douro river that separates them.
The bottom level is currently closed off to cars, and pedestrians are directed to one way lanes to cross that have limited areas of viewing.

This iron bridge is absolutely beautiful. It has two levels, the lower level allows pedestrians to walk cross. On the up level trams slowly move cross. I have crossed the bridge twice. Once I walked. It took me less than 10 minutes. The view from the bridge looking down the cute houses along the riverbank was amazing. The second day I took the tram. The tram stops right after passing the bridge. There is a small park there. I recommend doing both way to fully appreciate the bridge.

Beautiful bridge across the Douro river. The upper part connects old Town Porto with Gaia, and the lower part leads to the wine makers. But the sidewalks are narrow and be careful so the tram doesn't hit you.

Luis I Bridge was built by Eiffel’s student. What a great student he must have been. The bridge is set over two levels. The lower bridge for cars and the upper bridge for tram and pedestrians. The funicular is to one end of the bridge.
It is an unmissable attraction when visiting Porto.
Great place to catch sunset and sunrise.
My pictures are from an older camera which hopefully captures these images in a different light.
Another great way to capture the bridge is from the Gaia cable car.
The views from the bridge are unrivalled.

Ponte Luís I, Porto, Portugal
I'll never travel to Santiago de Compostela without this trip planner again
Cais da Ribeira is a historic and picturesque quarter in Porto located next to the river. It is renowned for its riverside promenade with terrace restaurants and bars below tall, colorful townhouses. The area is bustling with cafes, restaurants, and shops that offer fresh seafood as well as other delightful dining options. Visiting this part of Porto is a must-see when exploring the city's historical center.
One of the most beautiful places in Porto.

Touristy but a must do! There are a lot of street musicians and cafes. The views of the bridge are also spectacular. (submitting some videos from very talented musicians we found!)

Beautiful during day and night but the best time of the day to explore this beautiful place is in the early morning. Not a lot of people around, beautiful light and just peaceful and stunning.

If you do anything in Porto, walk this bridge from the bottom, walk along the shoreline and view the port factories and restaurants, take the cable car back to the top, go to the lookout, and walk back across to downtown on the upper level.
Our Airbnb was downtown and we didn't actually really like it terribly much because it was so, so touristy and busy. When we got to the other side by walking the bridge, however, our perspective changed completely. I would also recommend the 1-hour river tour, and there are several, and not expensive, to get a broader view of the city from the inside out, so to speak.

Absolutely lovely, lots of shops and restaurants to see. Being by the water is nice. Easy access to bridge.
The imposing Clerigos Tower dominates the skyline of Porto, and is a prominent landmark in the city. The tower is made of granite and has 240 steps that must be climbed to reach the top. The church itself is located on Avenida dos Aliados, a busy street in the center of town. The church is a popular tourist destination, and it contains an impressive altarpiece as well as a bell tower that is a symbol of Porto.
The church and tower sits on the top of a hill with the church in the front and the tower at the back. Entering the church is free. The church was designed by an Italian architect. The marble columns, the gilded Deco and sculptures are gorgeous. If you pay a fee to climb the tower, on the way you will get a chance to see the church from the ceiling angle, and get a closer look at the altar.

A cool tower with a magnificent church and nice museum inside. Climbing up to the tower you can see the city with a 360 degree view. However, the information board is incorrect in stating that Taipei 101 is in China. It is In Taipei, Taiwan. 🇹🇼

Beautiful museum and the view from top of the tower is incredible. There is a ticket of 6 euro per person. The museum has some really interesting articles related to brotherhood of clergy.
There are a lot of stairs to climb for the top of tower.

The church was very nice with a nice museum set up inside. Another lovely piece of history.
We pre purchased ticks which skipped the small line up.

The experience was one of a kind. You need to take more than 200 steps all the way up to reach the tower and the view on top is breathtaking! I highly recommend this! 👌

The tower great way to see Porto from above. The church is really pretty and there is a small museum with Catholic art and relics before you attempt to climb the tower. The stairs are a little steep and the stairwell is narrow, so it might be difficult to climb up if you're a bigger person or someone who has a phobia of tight spaces but the view is lovely and worth the effort.

A very pleasant church. We visited on a Sunday and happened upon a concert and an exhibition. If you come across such a combination, it's worth to sit down and just lose yourself in beautiful music. There is a nice little shop at the back of the church. Unfortunately, we did not visit the tower.
Katarzyna Waszczuk — Google review
Beautiful church and the view from the Tower is great. Another place that lacks a bit of context and more historical facts on the many rooms you go through. They could do a better job at controlling access to the highest parts of the Tower. It starts to get messy with people going up and down. And at the peak you barely have space to move as no one is controlling how many people get up there. The view is great, tho!
Also, the security guard at the entrance was poorly and did not show a lot of respect for the tourists.

Really great spot to check out while in Porto. Definitely pay for the tower tour to get some amazing views of the city and snap a few nice pics. You can also pickup some nice gifts at their store.

Amazing view from the top of the tower but be prepared to stop on the stairs to let people pass on their way down or up. It's a small passageway! Gorgeous church!

This surely is a landmark in Porto and a must-see. Built between 1732 - 1750. The unique and impressive tower at the back of the church was built between 1754 and 1763. The tower is 75.6 metres high and there are 240 steps to be climbed to reach the top.
And if you're lucky about timing, you can enjoy the nice bells ringing.
A wonderful piece of art and architecture. Nice to take some pics - even though the angle is a tough one to get a really good pic. But as usual it's best to see with your own eyes and to enjoy the beauty of it.
It's located on top of a hill. Nothing tough, but may be a bit difficult with wheelchair or stroller. The old town center of Porto can easily be done by foot. We just did the Rua Santa Catarina, Rua das Flores and then headed here. Makes a nice walk.

A beautiful church with a tower that affords gorgeous views of the city of Porto. Entering the church is free but to climb the tower there is a charge and it's well worth it.
In the tourist season this place is very crowded so best to get the tickets in advance

Lovely place to visit night and day. The tower: stairs are not wide so best to go when not busy. Lovely views from the top. We brought a dual ticket which worked out cheaper with the museum.
The church at night has the light show which is very impressive and is 10 euros.

To the person who said it’s not as claustrophobic as other towers to climb, I can only assume you either are a UK size 0, or just aren’t fully aware of your surroundings. I’ve climbed plenty of Scottish castles and I found this worse personally, but that didn’t mean that I didn’t ultimately enjoy it when I reached the top, and I even got (obviously by paying for it) a fun green screen edited picture of me falling off of it (let’s assume it was a greenscreen shot anyway…)
The church is beautiful too, gorgeous pink marble (I think?) lining some of the walls and ceiling. I didn’t realise until the end of the tower and museum part that you can go into the church by itself without having to climb the tower. It was only €5 anyway for a ticket which I thought was good value, and there was lots of stuff as part of the museum aspect about the brotherhood etc.
Can also confirm that I have never seen so many Jesus’ all in one place before. I also appreciated they wanted to compare the height of this tower with the Chrysler Building (and others).
Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area, but just be aware there isn’t any lift up to the top of the tower.
Rachel Lawson — Google review
Buy tickets online beforehand. Don't wait in line, it takes very long and you don't know when the next time slot will be available.
The church itself is pretty nice, and it's cool to have a behind the scenes look at everything. The view from the tower is really very cool of course, but sadly it is very very busy at the top and on the way there. There's not a lot of space, because the tower was of course never made for tourist visits. You also cannot see the Ponte Luís I. Still definitely worth a visit!
Sander ten Caat — Google review
Great views from the top, really enjoyed it, spent at least 30 mins at the top. Getting there takes a while because they obviously plan the route thoroughly through the church to see the museum-like rooms, chapel itself, and a green screen picture stop

This is a classic beautiful church. Unfortunately by 8 AM it is crowded with tourists. They’re not there to look at the church but rather take selfies. If you really wanna enjoy the church, get tickets in advance and enjoy them. Beautiful interior.

The historic and bi-level market in a neoclassical building, Mercado do Bolhão, is one of the best places to buy fresh produce and food in Porto. It is particularly popular on weekends when it bursts with activity. Across the road is Mercado de Bolhao, the former city market which retains its authentically bohemian feel.
Such a great place to buy fresh products and fish 🐟 it has stalls for chocolates 🍫, wine 🍷, meat 🥩 , fish 🐠 and many more. It looks like a tourist attraction from the first sight but it is in fact for locals. So good to see people having tapas and with a bit of 🍷

Lovely market in a convenient location in the middle of Porto. It's mainly food products like meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, baked goods, fruit, sweets and some souvenirs. It's aimed at tourists but there is nothing wrong with that and there are many locals who shop there as well. All the products are top quality and very nicely arranged. The prices are similar to what you will find elsewhere in Porto. The sellers are very friendly and most of them speak English so it's easier to shop. The market has gone through extensive renovations and it looks beautiful. This is a great place to shop and to come and sample some of the great food that this city has to offer.

For a fun informal lunch, do consider coming here. You can pick up cheeses, meats, tapas, fruit and all sorts of local delicacies and fresh foods, all available to be eaten here, or taken home to enjoy later. This also includes a nice wine, beer, port or freshly made juice. Grab some food, wander the stalls and pick up few bargains. P.s. Did I mention it is the cleanest markets I’ve ever been to? High recommend for any visitor to Porto!

The open market in Porto stands out for its impeccable cleanliness and vibrant atmosphere. Offering a diverse selection of food and Port tasting options, it's a haven for culinary enthusiasts. From fresh fruits to delectable seafood, there's something to tempt every palate. During my visit, I couldn't resist purchasing some savory sausage and a few bottles of Port to bring back home as souvenirs.

The orginal place is closed for renovation. The market is moved to La Vie mall (where decathlon is). Market is clean. There are stalls for dry food, fruits, fresh seafood, frozen seafood, flowers and also some eating stalls.
Check out the variety of nuts and dried preserved fruits, cheap & good!

A delightful and pristine market offering a variety of fresh produce, meat, fish, and flowers. Bolhão Market has gained popularity as a tourist hotspot, and you'll also come across souvenir shops selling chocolates and canned fish. Keep in mind that if you plan to visit on a Sunday, note that the majority of the shops will be closed.

This place is fabulous or horrible, depending on your tolerance for crowds and your patience level. Definitely check the map listing to suss out less popular times to visit. If you do that (and also bring your patience; it always seems pretty busy), you’re likely to really enjoy it. Def a great place for a light lunch or to try cheeses, wines, sardines and etc!

The market has been beautifully restored and houses a wonderful array of fresh local produce and delicatessen products. This is most definitely worth the visit. Go hungry so you can enjoy some of the food and drinks on offer. Exploring the market, chatting to friendly store owners and sampling the food on offer is an incredible experience and one we will repeat when next we are in Porto.

Bolhão Market has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. It has been a bustling marketplace for generations and is considered one of Porto's most emblematic markets. The market building itself is a notable example of neoclassical architecture. Its distinctive facade, featuring a large wrought-iron entrance, adds to the market's charm. The market is home to a variety of stalls selling fresh produce, meats, seafood, flowers, and traditional Portuguese products. It's a great place to explore local flavors and ingredients.
Bolhão Market is a fantastic spot to purchase authentic Portuguese goods, including cheeses, cured meats, fresh fruits, and regional specialties. Vendors often offer tastings, allowing visitors to sample local products..
Within and around Bolhão Market, there are also small cafes and eateries where visitors can enjoy traditional Portuguese dishes. These places often provide a cozy setting to savor local flavors.
Bolhão Market is not just a marketplace; it's a cultural and historical landmark that reflects the city's traditions and the importance of local markets in Portuguese culture.
Bolhão Market has long been a must-visit for both locals and tourists seeking an authentic market experience. While the market has faced challenges and discussions about its future, it remains an integral part of Porto's cultural and culinary identity.

The market is clean and spacious.
I found it eye opening , since it display a lot of fresh oyster, sea urchin , shrimp that you can order a platter and eat right on the spot!
There are pasta cooked right on spot as well , needless to say sandwich , bakery , fresh produce, even tartar ( raw beef )
There are a few rows of tables at the entrance where you can sit down and enjoy the food.
This is a fun place for people who wants to sample different food and drinks.
For a relax meal , I recommend to take the elevator to the third floor to enjoy sit down meal, price is comparable and a lot more relax.

A really interesting place. Old market where you can feel the vibes of the city and it’s locals.
It has a bit of everything, fruits, vegetables, fish, a couple restaurants and souvenir shops as well where the souvenirs have an affordable price.
A cute mug was only 3€ there.
I recommend to spend a few minutes walking around it, and also going to the second floor if you access through the main one to have a different point of view.

This is definitely worth visiting.
They have several stalls with fresh produce, and typical food from Portugal.
You can find a bit everything: the typical delicious canned food (e.g. sardines, seafood), dried and crystallized fruits, an amazing selection of mushrooms, a good assortment of olives, cheeses from different regions in Portugal, fresh fruits (some very good options to eat on the go), flowers…
It is a great place to go to buy great souvenirs from Portugal, it is a bit pricier than in other places in the city, but if you are short in time, then this is a good place where you can find a bit of everything

Great food! Great prices, lot of diversity and delicious stuff to try. I had a couple special desserts from Porto, a cappuccino and other stuff for brunch. You can also get fresh fruit, juice, pantries and more! Everybody is super nice and they would help you if you need anything! The only downside is that the place is usually packed with people, and it would be difficult to find a spot to sit down and eat, but overall, a great experience!

I was able to visit this historic market in the evening and it is a wonderful place. From fruit to seafood, from cheese to wine. You can walk with your glass and cheese plate in your hand, browse the stalls and shop. Or you can have your pasta prepared in the wheel of cheese and go to the stall with olives. There are also stalls selling birch and flowers. You can have a chocolate crepe prepared or try local flavors from the mini bakery. The cheese and seafood stalls were my favorite... by the way, there are tables and stools at the entrance of the market, if you are lucky you may come across an empty one.

This place is more of a tourist attraction than a local market. The products offered are tailored specifically for tourists, and you can buy some souvenirs typical of Portugal here.
The gastronomic offer is very poor, only a few places offer only snacks. There are also no benches or tables where you could sit and relax.
But of course still worth a visit.

A very nice market, well designed, well organized, and clean. There are restaurants on the second floor for those who want to eat something in the market area. I should not forget to mention the variety which is good and offer different things. We had some small vegetable snacks and enjoyed them. There are tables and chairs for those who want to have a seat and enjoy their meal. One thing that got my attention was their small packages of products for those who wanna have a bite, which was interesting. You can also have a glass of wine and give back the glass afterward. The only thing that surprised me was the high prices, normally two times more expensive than normal, and this is the reason we did not buy much. The restrooms are available too, which is a comfort. I hope this review helps you. Thank you team Mercado Do Bolhao

Mercado do Bolhão is a nice little market in Porto that feels very tourist friendly. You can find a lot of fresh products like fruit, fish, and meat. I was recommended this place and I must say if you are a food lover you must visit this place. They have all the delicious produce of Porto under one roof. They had mushrooms, olives, fish, meat, wine, coffee, pastry and even some chocolates. I especially loved the Oysters and the sea Urchins.

The organic market is a beautiful place for strolling, shopping, and grabbing a bite to eat. Both the stalls and the atmosphere are lovely, and we generally had a pleasant time. I highly recommend a visit to this market in Porto. However, be cautious of vendors selling non-fresh seafood, and steer clear of them. Due to this issue, I'm giving this place a low rating. I'll explain the details below.
According to the direction of the entrance to the market, there are two carpaccio vendors on the left side. I especially recommend the first one. The stall is operated by a couple. Both the lady and the gentleman are good at their jobs, attentive, cheerful, and polite. We actually wanted to try deer carpaccio, but unfortunately, they were out of stock. We tried their beef carpaccio, and it was delicious. We liked it so much that we ordered another portion.
I'd like to highlight two important points. I hope the municipal subsidiary company GO Porto takes these into account.
Firstly, there's a stand right in the middle selling fried cheese, which creates a smell pollution not present at any other stall and tarnishes the market. We noticed that many people, including ourselves, were bothered by this smell. Due to our discomfort, we couldn't even approach the other stalls near this vendor. So, there's a situation where visitors are disturbed and other stall owners' business is hindered.
Secondly, and most importantly, my spouse experienced food poisoning, and we believe it was due to the seafood vendor at your market. When we checked the reviews, we noticed that several people complained of the same issue on the same dates. Furthermore, there have been similar complaints on other dates as well. This issue is serious and requires urgent attention. Negligence on your part is unacceptable.
Livraria Lello is a beautifully designed historic bookstore with an art nouveau exterior and a winding wooden staircase.
Whether or not you are a fan of Harry Potter, this bookstore is one of the must-visit places in Porto.
I would say that getting your ticket online is a MUST if you don't want to waste a lot of time in the queue. Seriously, the lines at this place are insane. When you book your ticket online you can select the time you want to enter and it is important that you are there at that time. Thanks to this you will be able to avoid the queues (at least we were able to avoid the queue the time we went thanks to this).
When you arrive at the site, tell them that you have reserved for X hour and they will tell you what to do.
The bookstore is beautiful, it looks like something out of a story. Of course, if you want to take a photo without people... good luck because it is practically impossible unless you arrive first thing in the morning.
Inside you can find a wide variety of books and also Portuguese literature. They have their own bookstore collection with some of the most iconic books, these having special covers and decoration. With your ticket you have a discount of 5 € to buy books (the price of the ticket).
In short, a must-see in Porto, as long as you book online and manage to avoid the queue, because if you don't, you will wait a long time in line, losing time for other activities that you can do in the city.

One of a most visit place in Porto (that is what people often said). I have been in Portugal almost 3 years and never been inside of the place. I am just passing in front of it many times and the queue is always long.
Pros:
1. Parking accessible for wheelchair.
2. Entrance accessible for wheelchair.
3. Unique building with its decorations.
4. Informative staffs.
5. You can buy the ticket online.
6. You can buy book here.
Cons:
1. The queue is kind of long. Maybe it is better to visit in the end of the day to avoid the crowd.

It is certainly a beautiful library that mainly focuses in universal literature in Portuguese, English, Spanish, and French. It is a nice place to visit, despite the fact that it has become a bit of a tourist trap. You may have to wait in the line for hours to access to a library that’s full of people. The best time of the day to visit, is in the late afternoon, right before the place closes. It is also better to get your tickets online previously. If you love books, and have the time to spend in a line, you should visit this place.

Wow. Full recommendation right away. It’s so worth visiting this place. Even just for the look. you don’t have to get one of the books there to appreciate how awesome it looks. And if you are a Harry Potter fan this is a must anyway. Just book online in advance and the waiting time is kept to a mere 10-15 minutes. Go see it!

This just might be the most beautiful bookstore in the world, but it is very hard to tell with the crush of people that visit every half hour. I do recommend booking your tickets online so you have the opportunity to see the beautiful architecture and book arrangements inside.

Very pretty, but very busy place. You can take cute pictures on the staircase inside at the end of every 30 mins when most of the people left the library again according to the time windows. Only a few books can be bought with the gold ticket, mainly the small classics.

Agreed it's one of the best bookstores in the world but it is too crowded for my liking. You can only book online. Take the last shift, 6:30 pm booking. Eight euros for entry and you get a discount if you buy books from them. The books are mostly in Portuguese but that's not a con. It's understandable. Folks go in and only care about getting themselves clicked. Staff super polite and kind. Also willing to visit. A one time visit (only because of the crowd).

The building's inside is very beautiful! The interior is outstanding from the handcrafted wood ceilings to the thoughtfully designed staircase. Despite the fact that you have to pay for a ticket in order to access the library, it seems to be always packed. The Library has a substantial collection of books. Definitely would visit for the wonderful experience. I suggest checking out the unique editions that the library has created if you're in the market for books.

Beautifully designed. Total tourist trap.
Small book store with a very limited selection of books. Definitely caters to tourists with the book selection. €5 entrance charge but they do credit you that much if you purchase a book.
The stairway is beautiful but good luck getting a picture without someone posing on it.
The staff was very friendly.
Not really worth the wait in line if you are looking for an actual book and not just a social media post. But the staff was nice and it is beautiful inside.

It is a really nice place, indeed. Amazing architecture, nice set-up. We got our tickets online and booked the visit at 14:00. Even if the line was really long and we were somewhere in the middle, at 14:07 we enter the library.
A bit to crowded, but I think it was worth it. :)

It is a beautiful library indeed, but not sure if it's worth the hassle to go in. Tickets are only €5 (must be bought online and make sure you do that in advance as they can get sold out quickly). The problem is the queue to get in and the amount of people inside at once. It's nearly impossible to enjoy or take a proper picture.
Books there are really expensive and can certainly be bought for a much better price anywhere else.

What a highlight when in Porto ! Definitely buy tickets online before going, and expect lineups, even with a scheduled time. It is well worth a bit of a wait.
We arrived 1/2 hour earlier and there were lots of people already in line.
Everyone does get in, though, and it's a photographer's delight. With a grand staircase and beautiful wood bookcases filled with old books, it's a great way to spend an hour. Of course, Harry Potter fans will love this place.

You should definitely make a reservation. And please buy the ticket, which is 15.90€. They cannot manage capacity. And overcrowded you waiting long time probably. The most suitable books are 15.90€, so pay this fee, buy books and get fast entry. It's a pretty nice place inside, worth a trip. Decorations and art details are great. I’m sure that you feel like you're in a magical place. Staircase is so nice to take a photo. Visit for a great experience. If you're looking to buy books, I'd recommend the special editions that this place has made themselves.

The book store that inspired Harry Potter is worth the time while visiting Porto. Get your tickets online is the best way to get in. Be prepared to wait in line. It took us around 20 minutes to get inside. Once inside marvel at the amazing architecture and pick up a book to take with you!

A phenomenal place to visit! You get back in time in a place that has all the bells and whistles! Every detail is amazing - from the central staircase to the ceiling and side columns! Soak up the atmosphere of the grandeur of past times... They do have some organization in place but it is still quite crowded! €5 to get in which goes towards your purchase if you buy a book. I would highly recommend making that ticket purchase online and prior to getting there because the line is quite long. The online purchase puts you on the shorter- fast track line. The prints are elegant with gold finishes - they make a great gift! You can also pick a recipe book or a city guide with amazing photos! I would highly recommend this place!

it's a beautiful library for sure! but it's way too busy, I think they just sell too many tickets at the specific time times. It's easy to buy online, cost 5€ and you get those discounted of any book you buy. You walk in at the time frame that you bought for, people makes line but I thought what for if it'll be same busy inside no matter what. Enjoy it but be aware of how busy it'll be

A unique bookstore in Porto, the wooden staircase is beautiful and very much Harry Potter inspired. Truly a must see when in Porto. Book tickets online as time slots are allocated. It attracts a lot of people and the line is long. Still worth the visit.
Jenny Magee — Google review
This is an absolute must-see in Porto, especially if you're a book lover! The tickets can be bought in advance or at the entrance via QR code so you can secure your time slot. We got the option that is €8 p/person and gives you a discount on a purchase. I got a book that was originally €15 for just €8. It didn't take more than 15minutes to get inside, and it had a wide variety of books in many languages, cool merchandise, and beautiful decor.
Gio Ribeiro — Google review
The building is amazing and the books are flashy and attractive. But the quality of the books is incredibly low and the number of people insight is just spoiling the experience. I really hoped that the books would be of a good quality but I just feel cheated. All the books I got are somehow badly printed.

Livraria Lello is absolutely enchanting, like a wizard's library straight out of a magical world! The staircase and book arrangement add a whimsical touch, making it a dream spot for book lovers. Kids were over the moon, rating it 10 out of 10 magical stars! 📚✨
Tickets cost about €8 per head online.
On the downside, the long queue even on a rainy day and the bustling crowds inside were a bit of a dampener. The queue is long for online purchased time slot tickets. Despite that, the magical vibes made it a memorable experience for all.

If you’re a fan of books or architecture then this is a must visit location for you in Porto. It’s worth every second of queuing. You must book tickets online for a certain time slot. Do not make the mistake of not booking as they turn people away. Take your time once you’re in the shop and look around properly. Some books are mixed languages around the shop. The staff are very helpful. They have some of their own special editions which are beautiful. Do not visit Porto without stopping here.
Baking Bar — Google review
Amazing book shop (not a library), it is very hard to find the quiet time, there is always huge queue. It is quite handy to buy tickets online, but voucher can only be used on books not on merchandise (hope in the future they change it). I would have enjoyed it way more if we could able to catch a quite time, but overall it is a magical must see place of Porto.
Yağmur Turgut Birer — Google review
An interesting experience that would be a shame to miss. It's a pity that the history and architectural feats of the bookshop itself have been overshadowed by the Harry Potter shop. If you can, buy a golden ticket for the opening, because then you only have a chance to take a quick photo and look around, after 10 minutes you'll be swept away by the flood. I hope there will be a publication in Hungarian one day ...
Sándor Kerekes — Google review
The bookshop is stunning but it’s very, very crowded, quite small and so busy that it really doesn’t feel worth the ticket price to get shoved around it for ten mins just to take a photo of the amazing decor. You are meant to be able to use the tickets to get discount on any books bought but we were only allowed to use one of our three tickets when buying.
Tiernan Douieb — Google review
A huge range of books (English, French and Portuguese), and the editions made in store have beautiful design art and covers. It's worth the price, in my opinion. The place was extremely busy and felt a little cramped at times. Staff were lovely, very friendly and helpful. The architecture was gorgeous; it was worth a visit just for the view of the stairs & ceiling. The cost to get in is €8pp (book online and scan the ticket to enter), but you can redeem the cost against any book you buy per person.
Aisling Siobhan — Google review
Highly recommend to buy golden tickets (priority ticket), the silver ticket has a very very long line even if it has the time reserved. You can buy the bookstore’s special pocket series of books with the same ticket (15.9 euro). The staffs are so friendly despite the place is packed with tourists.
L C — Google review
Yes, it’s a super pretty bookstore! And the personnel was very helpful. The downside is how busy it is. It kinda ruins the experience. Also, the entrance is 8€ per person but the good thing is that you can get that as a discount when you buy a book. 📚😊 Book a time slot before you visit!
Christina Parpoula — Google review
Exquisitely beautiful bookshop near a modern shopping area and in the historic centre. I had previously read that people found it overpriced, but I thought the book prices were average (certainly wouldn’t get them cheaper in the UK), and your ticket into the building gets redeemed against a book of your choice. Books could be bought in Portuguese, French and English, no doubt Spanish too but I didn’t see any of those books. They had beautiful printed classics and the staff were helpful. Main downside is that because it’s so touristy it’s difficult to move around, especially with people stopping to pose on the staircase, and your time in the bookshop is somewhat limited.
Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Oliveira is a church from the late 15th century that boasts exquisite Gothic architecture and ornate baroque artwork. This historic site is a stunning place to visit, frequented by many people during evenings and weekends. The square surrounding the church offers plenty of dining options, while the charming nearby alleyways provide ample opportunities for taking photographs. Overall, this beautiful church is definitely worth visiting if you happen to be in town.
Historic, beautiful plece to visit. There are alot of persons at night and weekend. Really worth to visit

It is located on Largo de Oliveria. It is definitely an amazing church. Not just it is a part of the culture but architecture wise it is also amazing. Inside of the church is another story. You will be impressed for sure. You can spend lots of time inside by embracing serenity and peace. Recommended strongly!

Bom Jesus do Monte is a beautiful neoclassical sanctuary located in the outskirts of Braga. The main attraction here is the staircase that leads up to the hilltop pilgrimage site, which is breathtakingly scenic and worth visiting if you're in the area.
This is the number 1 reason we came to visit Braga and it didn't disappoint. From the train station we took bus #2 ($1.55) to the end, then took the funicular/elevator ($1.5) to the top. We walked down and took tons of pictures of the stairs. Total visit time was about 90 minutes. Bus#2 again to the old town was easy and relaxing.

Very colorful, beautiful, pretty sanctuary. Amazing city views from the top. There is also an elevator to go up and down. It hardly take 1 min and it's 1.5 euro. I was not much amused by elevator because there is no views. But the sanctuary is very big and extremely beautiful. There is also a lake. You can ride the boat yourself in just 1.5 euro per person.
Amnah Amjad — Google review
Stunning views from this gorgeous church. Lovely walks, gardens and a big park a little further up. Very unusual alter scene showing Roman soldiers. The interior is very beautiful. Nice gift shop next door with a good range of both religious & non religious items.
Lili Rehak — Google review
During our family visit to Bom Jesus do Monte, we were fortunate to go on a rainy day, which helped reduce the crowds. Although there were a lot of stairs to climb, the experience was made more engaging by the dioramas depicting the life of Jesus at each landing, which provided interesting breaks during the ascent.
One of the highlights was the fact that parking and entering the church were both free, which made the visit more accessible for us. Despite the rain, the beauty of the surroundings and the peaceful atmosphere made it a memorable experience for the whole family.
Overall, Bom Jesus do Monte offers a meaningful and enjoyable outing for families, with its blend of religious significance, scenic views, and architectural beauty.

This was a very beautiful surprise to visit to see well taken care of the gardens and hear the bells ringing. Enjoy a stroll around a charming lake or rent boat for a nice romantic afternoon. Take the little train up the hillside. Just enjoy your day here and take a lot pictures and pack a picnic.

A must-see site. The views of Braga from here are stunning. It might seem hard to climb the stairs, but their are not hard to tackle and, if you have physical problems, you can always take the funicular up and down hill (they only take cash). Atop of the stairs there are marvelous gardens and buildings. Also, they have restaurants and bars where you can have a drink paired with an amazing view.

Fascinating place, there is so much more here than I thought there would be. There are extensive walks behind the made buildings, a small boating area and lots of nature. Well worth a visit.

Beautiful church and grounds! Lots of places with photo opportunities and great views of the city.
You can walk the steps or take an electric car to go up and down the several steps in front of the church.
Besides the church there is a great square with a coffee shop and an ice cream place. A great place to stop, appreciate the view and grab some snacks.

I've wanted to see this amazing place for years. Today on a bus tour from Porto my wish was fulfilled. We arrived with our bus tour at the church. Walked down all 700 steps and up again. The little fountains along the stairs are intriguing. 1 spouts water from her eyes, another from his nose, another from his mouth. I have no idea what the story is behind this.

Bom Jesus do Monte is a great place for a day trip. It is one of the best places to see in Braga. The view of the city is breathtaking and there are many sights to discover as well as a large park with a playground for children and places to rest, perfect for a picnic.
I recommend it to anyone who wants to have a great view of the city (maybe at night) and enjoy the place. There is a paid toilet here behind Bom Jesus church (€0,50) and on the right side, behind the church, if you go up the small hidden path, there is a free toilet.
The park offers a small lake, here you can rent a boat. There is also a cafe, an ice cream parlor and a small outdoor fitness park as well as the playground.

This was a very unexpectedly wonderful visit. The site is a religious place and the sanctuary of Bom Jesus do Monte is beautiful and impressive in size.
Even if you are not a believer like myself I would recommend stopping here. Apart from the sanctuary which is worth the visit on its own, there are other beautiful areas nearby.
We spent around an hour and a half wandering around as it was pretty relaxing and we visited early in the morning when not many people were around. We parked our car in the parking lot close to the sanctuary but if you feel you can walk you can park for free and walk your way up to the sanctuary (there is also an elevator taking you up from there as well)
Happy we stopped here!

Beautiful beautiful beautiful ! It is populated by tourists yes but should that stop you from visiting no ! Locals will complain about this problem but I could see past it and appreciated the amazing architectures and gardens. It’s a place you want to stay a bit and take in. There’s drink and restroom available me at the top. Getting to the top is recommended by the fun old “funicular” lift (you need cash) and walk down to the bottom via the stairs.

Best place you can visit in Braga. It's free to visit a huge site, but it's a bit lengthy to get there. Braga as a city doesn't offer much, but this place is a must. Go to the top via car or the elevator and walk down all the way down. It's definitely worth it.
Elsa Kaiser — Google review
If you read the other reviews, you will know that the architecture and the grounds are stunning. Because it's old, you will see the effects of the years on the property and structures. The best time to visit is in winter. A ride early. I'm going to crowds. You saw the YouTube videos or maybe a travel show about this place? It does not compare to being here.

Go and experience it for yourself. Definitely one of the brightest and most beautiful locations in Northern Portugal. The park that represents paradise on the very top, above the church is absolutely stunning! And again, it is kid friendly, has a playground☺️

Located not too far from Braga is this beautiful attraction that sits in the hills. The steps which were meticulously built are unique and so intricate. It has a fairly sizeable compound which is beautifully decorated. There is a church and grotto on site.
The sculptures on display also look so vivid. Bon Jesus is a must visit location if you are in the North of Portugal.

It was a really nice experience to visit there… I’d recommend if you are in Braga 2 days or more, or if you travel by car. Otherwise it is not worth it. The city bus takes around 40 mind each way and it was not on time! Also there are LOT more stairs up there that you don’t see in the pictures. And the cable car was expensive.

There are beautiful details about it and about the architecture and fountains and I suggest reading about it before visiting the place to enjoy every step you take in that great place.
I, also, suggest going in winter or spring but absolutely not in summer.

It is incredible to even think that this bridge was built by the Romans and then rebuilt in the Middle Ages. The numbers on both margins explain the myth that the first battalion may have reached the end of the Western world. It is a pleasure to walk across this pedestrian bridge and admire the river Lima and the beautiful town of Ponte De Lima. It is lit in the evenings adding to the romance of the location. There is a large free public parking lot next to the bridge so it's convenient to make a stop and take a stroll there.

Sanctuary of the Sacred Heart of Jesus / Mount of Santa Luzia
The Santuário de Santa Luzia is a Neo-Gothic, Eclecticist sanctuary in Vila Vicosa that houses one of the largest rose windows on the Iberian Peninsula and is home to the duoro river's mouth. Every day at 15:00, everyone comes together to pray here.
The Santuário de Santa Luzia in Viana do Castelo, Portugal is an amazing icon of the city with a fabulous dome ceiling.
Please, please, please come here for the gorgeous sunsets and sunset views.
So many people come here to watch the sun sink into the ocean and to see amazing city and river views that it is also a wonderful people meeting and watching place.

Absolutely beautiful 😍 We had a blast going up to the 🔝! When we were there the elevator was not working so we climbed up the stairs. You need to be able to go up stairs for a good 5 - 10 minutes or maybe more! There is one spot that shows you a green light to go and a red light to stop 🛑 so the ones going the opposite direction can get through because it’s that TIGHT!! But once your up on the top you have an incredible view 😊
We went at sunset 🌅 that made it even more gorgeous! Although a little nerve wracking the beach view is spectacular! 🌟♥️🌟
We parked our RV here at the top of the hill no problem about a 5 minute walk from the church!
Meg ?Family Travel? — Google review
Architecturally, it is of Romanesque-Byzantine inspiration, fitting into the revivalist architecture that marked the turn of the century. Its imposing rose windows are the largest in the Iberian Peninsula and the second largest in Europe.
You can reach the top of the Monte de Santa Luzia by funicular (elevator), by car or by climbing the steps. This place dominates an important part of the Lima river valley and a large stretch of the seashore to the north and south of the estuary, as well as the green mountain range. This panorama has been rated by the National Geographic Magazine as the third most beautiful in the World.

The place where the famous duoro river begins, is also the mouth of the sea. The heart church of jesus located on the top of the mountain is a wonderful architectural place to visit. 15:00 every day everyone will pray together

We drove all the way up in the car, so no opinion on how to get there using public transportation, which is excellent in Portugal.
We recommend cloudy day for not to be blinded ("overexposed") by the reflecting ocean.
Rose window nicely lights the interior. Smaller windows around the dome do not contribute as much.
There is a way to walk to the gallery around the dome, however, it was closed that day.
Consider donating a coin or two : all goes towards restoration
(a crowdfunding, of a sort).
Enjoy your visit!
Hope this helps.

Always taking centre place in any view of the city, this church (a fairly recent one, finished around 1954) provides a great viewing point of the surrounding lands and city below, while featuring a small interior, albeit dominated by rose windows and painted abode.
Quite a fair climb up to it, especially as the elevator was out of order at the time.
Up to you to decide if the view is worth it.

An amazing view of the town and a lovely Basilica. The drive up is via a winding road and at the top there is parking. If you don’t have a car there is a Funicular from the town to the basilica. A very pleasant church to visit, one of the most attractive spots in the city of Viana do Castelo. The church is beautiful and it is possible to climb (paying) to the top. There is a cable car that takes people near the church, some souvenir shops, a picnic park, an amphitheater and an excellent viewpoint. Along with the Gil Eanes Hospital Ship and the costume museum, it is the most important place to visit in the city.

Cies Islands are a group of islands located in the Rias Baixas estuary of Vigo, Pontevedra in Galicia. These islands serve as an ideal holiday destination due to their beautiful white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters, and hiking trails that cater to all levels. Visitors can reach the Cies Islands by ferry from Vigo, Baiona or Cangas.
Just astonishing. The fact this is in Vigo and feels like you are in the wilderness and a natural paradise is amazing. The beaches are incredible and very unique for people not used to untouched beaches with the forest right on the limit. The hike to the lighthouse on the north side is great and the views up there are breathtaking. The north side is very green and better if you have issues walking since it’s not so steep. Great restaurants with local food and good prices

Just speechless! Amazing place on Earth, with white sandy beaches. I have never seen sooo white sand before like this island has. It’s like a 40 mins trip with Catamaran from mainland, not sure how much is it if you book independently, I went by cruise and booked the shore experience through the cruise line. There is a bar on the island, you can buy cold beverages and snacks too. Toilets are also provided. No rubbish bins on the islands, YOU MUST take all rubbish back with you, really important. You are allowed to swim in the ocean but not in the lake. Overall an amazing breathtaking place, highly recommended to visit.

Most beautiful beach in the world! Camping, hiking, kayaking and star gazing! The ultimate place to be one with nature. 2 restaurants and a bar. You can bring your own food and really do camping or eat at the restaurants. We did a little bit of both, mostly the alcohol part😛 coming from the USA we couldn't bring camping gear. They have everything you need but have still preserved the islands. They have kept it from becoming commercialized. There is a limit to how many people can visit a day.

Excellent, weekend gateway. I will highly recommend Camping overnight, it's worth it... Unfortunately, I couldn't do it. However, it's possible to finish the trails in 1 day(9-6). Check out weather, carry an umbrella, water droplets feel like stone due to geography.

There’s a lot of paths around the island that allows you to explore it and see it all.
There’s activities for kids and, at night, they played a movie “under the stars”, adorable!
There’s hot water and a lot of trash cans around the island.
Food quality… not the best, not the worst, and a bit expensive.

Praia A Lanzada is a picturesque cove that offers various activities such as surfing, windsurfing and walking. The beach stretches for 2.3km on the west side of an isthmus leading to O Grove in Galicia. Despite its natural beauty, it is not deserted and has large car parks available. This long and wide beach provides ample space for strolling and is suitable for surfing due to good waves.
Situated at a lovely beach with beautiful fine sand and crystal-clear water, this spot is perfect for those seeking a peaceful retreat. There are conveniently located restrooms tucked behind the dunes, and the added benefit of free parking. Additionally, it's a great spot for surfing enthusiasts, with consistent waves suitable for both beginners and seasoned surfers.
