I must have hiked this in the wrong direction as I could only follow the signs for so long until I just ended up wandering aimlessly through a field!! I found a road on Google maps and just headed for that in the end up. Had a great time, saw some tiny waterfalls and a few deer.

I loved this place. A great getaway for the weekend. You need to find the right trail that could take you through beautiful woods and waterfall. I didn’t know about it so missed the waterfall

It is hard to get up but it is a great experience, you should go there. Really clean.
The Tullamore D.E.W. Distillery Visitor Experience is housed in a 19th-century warehouse and offers tasting tours, a restaurant, and a bar. The brand's whiskey has gained global recognition since its establishment in 1829, with the initials D.E.W. representing Daniel E. Williams, the distillery's former general manager.
A great way to pass a few hours, this is a beautiful visitor centre wore a great retail shop with lots of merchandise, there is also a restaurant on site with a delicious selection from small bites to a proper lunch. There are a number of various tours available do a little research before you get there, staff are very friendly and helpful and make you feel welcome. I really enjoyed the your and got yo taste some really great Irish Whiskey at the end.

This was an amazing experience!
It is a must do for any whiskey lover! Simply the best whisky distillery tour I have done!
Our tour guide, Emma, was lovely! She was very knowledgeable and pleasant to follow round.
Perfect activity for a perfect day!

We had a fantastic time on the tour today with the very pleasant and knowledgeable guide Michele & Alan our driver. The Irish coffee at the beginning of the tour was a great way to relax into the experience. Michele was very engaging and had an instant rapport with our group. We loved everything about the tour but the drink in the snug hidden among the caskets was the highlight for us. We would highly recommend the tour. Sláinte!

My father and I really enjoyed the distillery tour.
It is a beautiful distillery, and the staff were very welcoming and delightful on the tour.
Our tour was led by Vivienne and Ray. They were very knowledgeable and Vivienne made a wonderful Irish Coffee. The walk through the still house gives a good view of the process with a great bready smell of the wart and brewing process. We then rode to the warehouses and were able to enter one and get that wonderful smell of maturing whiskey from the casks through evaporation, or "The Angeles Share". Then back to the production building for a tasting / blending of 3 expressions of Tullamore D.E.W.
I highly recommend a tour of the Tullamore D.E.W distillery and the nice store there on site.
Thank you for a wonderful experience Vivienne and Ray.

Tullamore DEW Masterclass was a brilliant 90 minute introduction to Whiskey and what sets Tullamore apart from the others. Our guide, Toni, delivered all the information in a way we could all relate. The tour started from raw ingredients all the way up to maturation and tasting. Begrudgingly I was designated driver so my partner had 2x 6 tasting paddles, all delicious. I'm keen to go back for more of the tour and for more whiskeys not available on the shelf.

Probably one if the greatest tours I have ever tried. The Tullamore DEW distillery experience tour is clearly focused on delivering the best experience for the visitors rather than making money from it.
The tour started with a correctly prepared Irish coffee and then travelling around the destillery and grounds also having several samples of their whisky.
The tour guide was very knowledgable, nice, and helpful. Big praise to her.
The tour groups consist of a maximum of eight people, which is really great - having too large groups can sometimes lead to worse tours. Hence, eight people is great.
The tour took roughly two hours.

Amazing visit to the distillery! We took the 100 minute tour and it was worth every penny of 39€ a piece. I have been to many distilleries and taken the tour but this one was tops. From enjoying an Irish coffee with our incredible tour guide, Ita, and listening to her tell the history of Tullamore DEW and how they make their blended whiskey, to going into the distillery itself and then on to the warehouse full of whiskey barrels, it felt like you were part of the family listening to an old friend talk about the family business. Solomon was our driver for the tour outside and he took care of everything for us. If you are in Dublin, take the 90 minute ride out to Tullamore. The town is wonderful to walk, and you will not be disappointed with the experience at the distillery. Highly recommend!!

Very nice tour and tasting. Quite a good deal at €39. You get a lot in the package, and the tour guide we had, Antoinette, was fantastic and quite knowledgeable. The historical aspect was neat, even though the distillery itself is pretty new, the tour was well steeped in history.

An amazing experience! The location is beautiful and it was awesome to actually experience the distillery process and cask warehouse. Dana, provided a great tour! With a delicious authentic Irish Coffee to start. Totally recommend this place and also visiting the lovely town of Tullamore.

Absolutely fantastic tour ! The interior is absolutely beautiful and the tour is very informative. The whiskey - particularly the Irish coffee - was delicious.
I will 100% do this tour again and would highly recommend it.

Very interesting visit. We got lots of information from our lovely guide Daria who really masters the subject, makes a delicious Irish coffee at the beginning, speaks a very understandable English (for non-native visitors) and is dynamic and funny. The venue is beautiful and well organized to receive the tour.

If you like Jameson, do yourself a favor and try this distillery. From the states, I hadn't tried it before and fell in love. The tour was incredibly informative and the flights are perfect for sampling. We did the cheapest option and got three. You can choose the high end to get six. They also have a €150+ option that (I believe) shows their production. As a side note - Sundays are sometimes the busiest. Long live the city of Tullamore and DEW.
Matt James — Google review
Definitely the best distillery tour I've ever taken. (Although also the most expensive at 35€.) Our cozy group of 7 allowed us all to hear our fantastic guide Antoinette as she brought alive the story of Irish whiskey, and Tullamore's place in it. A masterful tale weaver, she spiritedly informed, entertained and painted a picture as she prepared a traditional Irish coffee and led us through the beautiful facilities. The tour lasted nearly 2 hours, and connected the "alchemy" of distillation with the "sacred" of maturation. At the noteworthy gift shop, you can top off your experience, by blending your own unique Tullamore bottle with variations on grain, malt and pot-stilled whiskeys (for 75€.) You can also enjoy a complimentary espresso or tea. #TullyTours

Brian was our guide and the tour was the last of the day. Considering he was relatively new, he was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic and entertaining throughout the tour. The facilities are superb and everything is explained well without becoming too technical which some may or may not like. Lots of tastings included so good value for money. Recommended!

Michele was incredible on our tour. She was so knowledgeable and after quite a few Irish whiskey tours felt this tour was the best Ireland has to offer. Michele and Alan took great care in ensuring this experience was one for the books. 10000/10 would recommend.

This was a great tour! Finley, the tour guide and Will was the driver on account of the rain. Both friendly people. Finley was very knowledgeable on the history of Irish whiskeys and had a lovely sense of humor about him.
I do know there are right ways and wrongs ways to make a drink, but his Irish coffee was top-notch! My 1st coffee was in Shannon, and it was just straight hot whiskey.
As far as the warehouse and the tasting room. I really enjoyed it. I've been to a few distilleries in the States as far as whiskey, bourbon, and beer go. This distillery is one of the nicer places!
10/10 Finley was absolutely great, and thanks, Will, for driving!
Took a couple of souvenirs home for further tasting and comparative analysis

It’s only taken a month to share , but a highlight of my trip to Ireland was visiting the Tullamore D.E.W. Distillery. Michelle and Solomon were fantastic guides and I learned a lot.
The nerd in me loved the history, the science, and the lessons. The drinker in me loved the tastes, the smells, and the varieties to sample. Their gift shop loved my wallet.
I want to stress that all rules were followed and a certain photo was taken from the outside, not in.
Thank you Tully!

By far this is the best distillery tour we've ever been on. From the minute you walk in, you're welcomed with an Irish coffee that they make right in front of you while you're sitting in comfy dining chairs. You then move to the more comfortable couches, with your Irish coffee, where they go through the process of distilling before you start the walking tour through the whiskey barrel storage warehouse then ending at a bar with some tastings and more educational info about the whiskey. They then walk you to the shop where you can purchase whiskey, merchandise and even make your own blend. It was a super fun experience and I recommend it to anyone going to Ireland. It is well worth the $40. Our guides Daria and Richie were fantastic. Daria was super knowledgeable about the distilling process and the whiskey itself and Richie made the delicious Irish coffee. Highly recommend! Purchase your tickets in advance as the group size is small, which makes more intimate and enjoyable.

One of the best distillery tours I’ve been on. Get a walkthrough of the whole process and see all of the equipment actually in use (including seeing the warehouse full of aging barrels!). Had tour guides Richie and Ray and we learned a great deal from them; I feel like I can talk intelligently about whisky now and actually understand what all the words mean. I can’t recommend enough, excellent value.

This was an amazing experience highly recommed it. Emma our tour guide was amazing (we later found out it was her 2nd solo tour which made it more impressive). It was awesome going into the casket room and trying a whiskey you can only get on the tour. Highly recommend.

Took the train from Dublin to tullamore. Taxi from the station to the distillery. Was a little disappointed to find all the tour slots booked for the day…but there’s a shorter tasting tour which we managed to get into. Costs $20 euro each takes around 30 mins and you get to sample 3 of their whiskies. Our guide was Richie and he was fantastic. Very informative and friendly. In fact the all the staff were great. Even offered us complimentary tea n coffee whilst we waited!
It’s also possible to buy some extra tasting samples too. The 18 year old single malt and the Honey are well worth the extra euros!
Highly recommended.

We booked here a few, weeks ago as we were staying in Tullamore and didn't want to miss out. We had visited the old distillery previously so we're looking forward to seeing the new one. To say we were blown away is an understatement - it's a great tour. We had Brian and he was a great addition - very informative and knowledgeable - he was well able to answer any question thrown at him and I have to mention his Irish Coffees..... Delicious!!!

Even though this is a fairly new facility, the tour was very thorough in a relaxing atmosphere. Let's just say the first part of the tour was about the education of whiskey making while lounging on couches with a custom made authentic Irish coffee. This was our favorite distillery tour in Ireland

What an experience, learned quite a bit! The experience and sights of such an establishment was breathtaking to say the least. Thank you for a once in a lifetime experience.
Charleville Castle Heritage Trust is a stunning 19th-century fortress nestled in an old oak forest. The castle boasts turrets, towers, and hand-carved stairways, creating an incredible sight for history enthusiasts and thrill-seekers alike. Known as one of the most haunted places in Ireland, it has its own share of ghostly tales, including that of Harriet, the tragic eight-year-old daughter of the Third Earl of Charleville.
Always a fabulous place to visit and I'm lucky enough that it's a 5 minute drive from me. Beautiful grounds, a great forest to venture into and some seriously picturesque views to photograph.

This place is kept in amazing repair. It's not completely open to the public, but you have access to the entire ground floor, including at least two haunted spots. The forest in front is also beautiful and a wonderful place to have a picnic, as we saw many couples and families doing. The road to the estate is quite frankly atrocious, but the end result is well worth the slow driving. I've included just a few of the many pics we took. Absolutely gorgeous!

Lovely castle unfortunately when we arrived it was too late for a tour however we had a brief 5 min walk around the outskirts.... not sure if people use the old ruins part as something other than looking at the scenery as we were greeted by a couple get steamy at 1630hrs! Only other thing is you need to be careful with the road kn the way in hard to see the speed ramps even at a low speed and lots of potholes. Looks to be a lovely place to do a tour but unfortunately we had our dog and too late for tour.

Beautiful woodlands surrounding the castle which are free to walk around with children and dogs etc. Particularly beautiful in April / May with amazing bluebells. No toilets / cafe on the site though.

I consider myself extremely lucky to have been included on a tour May 6, 2024. Just a quick taxi ride from Tullamore train station/town. The castle is obviously a labour of love for the owner/trust holder Bonnie. Bonnie gave a very personal and thorough tour of the areas open to the public. Due to historical rules and contractual obligations with film crews not all areas were open. History lives and breathes at Charleville. We were even greeted by the Princess of the castle (a fabulous calico cat). While needing a lot of restoration the work completed so far sure gives the picture of what it will be like once completed.i hope to make it back and see the progress. It is definitely good to confirm your place on the tour ahead of times because with filming and such there are limited tour access dates. And entry is with cash only.

The Spire of Lloyd in Kells, Ireland is an 18th-century folly in the form of a Doric column, surmounted by a glazed lantern. Sometimes described as "Ireland's only inland lighthouse", supposedly built to observe local equestrian events. Adjoining Paupers cemetery in honour of people involved in the construction. Walks that lead down along the Blackwater River and surrounding areas.

Beautiful historic landmark with a great playground for kids of all ages, wonderful views and walking trails. Here is some history of the place:
“Thomas Taylor, 1st Earl of Bective (1724-1795) was the devoted son who built the 'Spire of Lloyd' as a memorial to his father. But perhaps he should have also commemorated his grandfather, also called Thomas, whose enterprising eye led to the family's 300-year connection with Kells.
In the 1650s, Oliver Cromwell's soldiers needed to be paid.
In lieu of wages, they drew lots for confiscated Irish lands.
Colonel Richard Stephens received Kells - but the task of rebuilding the shattered town possibly daunted him. Opting for quick cash, he put it up for sale.
Having worked for Sir William Petty, Cromwell's chief surveyor, Thomas knew the area's worth and bought the estate. It was a shrewd investment since it led to the family becoming immensely wealthy members of the nobility.”

Beautifully kept grounds around what I believe is the only inland lighthouse in Ireland. The construction and finish is superb and would easily surpass many of todays buildings. Defunct distillery restored as a museum of whiskey history, with much old machinery on display.
What an amazing tour, distillery and place overall! Our tour guide explained everything and answered all of our questions. The old distillery makes you travel back in time, it's kinda magical. I didn't try the whiskey but my partner did and he said it was delicious! Highly recommended!

Seriously Enjoyable.
Distillers Cask Bottling really quite unique. I am no connoisseur, but this experience was so rewarding. The enthusiasm from the member of staff was so infectious . From the word go I was made by to feel so welcome, which I really appreciated. Deirdre continued in this vein and made for a very very pleasant and enjoyable time. Of course the whiskey is exceptional, but (and this is my second visit to the distillery) to me the wonderful staff do make for one of Ireland’s absolute gems!
Thank you so much.

This is a unique working small distillery. It is the oldest licensed distillery in Ireland. The setting is absolutely charming in a quiet almost pastoral setting. There's a small gift shop and a tasting bar where you can sample more than their bottles.

Caveat:
The date of the tour ended up being a bank holiday hence last production was a week before Xmas. No new brewing took place.
The tour guide was brilliant. While the tour did not drink whiskey she did her best to provide an great experience.
Being the oldest brewery is already worth a visit. The watermill are still operational. I have been told the Steam generator also works but did not see it.
The tour overall is 1 hour with no rush. Friendly atmosphere where whiskey tasting can be enjoyed.
Definitely worth a visit.

Absolutely worth it. The tour is very interesting and the guide was quite friendly and knowledgeable.
The tasting at the end is great, as expected, and you can ask for the “driver experience” meaning you’ll take home all samples in tiny bottles so you can try them later, which was a nice surprise. We also got to take a small glass home. They have a nice shop so you can take your favorite whiskey home, plus their bar is quite cozy. Amazing experience :)

A working distillery with a fascinating history, making great whiskey. Michael, a local lad with “tuns” of knowledge, made the visit far more worthwhile with a tasting at the end. The tour is a must, with a wee drop. If you can’t drink at the end of the tour, they can put the samples in little bottles for you to enjoy later. 😄

Had a good time at the distillery, did the tour and also got to drink a few samples. Spent well over an hour or two here.....
Very friendly staff at front desk, and the tour guide was very informative, fun, and kind.
The visitor centre is quite big, with a lot to see and take in. Also can sit down and have a some refreshments, and a shop.
All in all a good morning drinking whiskey and learning some history.
(only negative was the price of the tour was 30 Euros, a little steep me thinks)

The tour is interesting, the process of creating the whiskey is explained well, and there are opportunities to try alcohol at the beginning and the end. It is a pity that the old machinery isn't in use, and that the distillery there only makes a tiny fraction of the companies output.
Still very worth visiting especially if you like peated whiskey.

As visitor centre tours go this was a compact but informative tour. There's plenty of history here which was well explained by our tour guide. Tour finished with a lovely taster session and a free gift of a kilbeggan water jug. For those driving you can opt out of the taster session and get a driver pack which allows you to taste at home a great idea. The gift shop is well stocked with plenty of kilbeggans products. Give yourself time to browse even take time to enjoy the coffee shop. All in all lots on offer.

When we visited Ireland we had a goal of visiting as many distilleries as possible. The Kilbeggan Distillery was on our list of stops and it was great. They offer tours and have a shop to purchase any of their signature whiskeys. Between our group we bought 6 bottles after tastings because their whiskey is fantastic. A must stop for original Irish whiskey.

It's worth a visit to see how whiskey was made in the old days. Having said that, tasting was average and should at least only include whiskeys of the Distillery rather than from other distilleries owned by the same company...
Lough Boora Discovery Park offers a natural setting with shaded walking and biking trails, as well as opportunities for fishing and birdwatching. The park features a Fairy Trail with 14 fairies living in Fairy Avenue, along with lakeside Mesolithic sites discovered in 1977. Visitors can enjoy long walks through woods and Peatland, suitable for both kids and adults. The sculpture trail showcases interactive pieces made from bog wood and remnants of old trains used to work the land.

This is an absolutely beautiful place to visit. So peaceful and filled with really interesting sculptures. The forest walk was a particular highlight.
Unfortunately, despite the website saying that there are toilets and a café, both were closed. There were no bins along the trails. There is a distinct lack of signage too. Many of the crossroads had no signs at all!
We thought we were on one of the looped trails only to discover ourselves completely outside the park with a very long walk to get back!

Lovely long walks through woods and Peatland, with routes and attractions for kids and adults alike.
The fairly trail seems to work for the kiddos, the bluebells were in full bloom as we visited.
More interesting for me was the sculpture trail, which brings together bog wood and the remnants of the old trains that were used to work the land - a series of interactive pieces.
Signage is a little unreliable and we did get slightly disorientated at points.
The cafe is open to 5pm, which at least gave us some much needed caffeine.

Belvedere House Gardens & Park is a stunning estate that features a Palladian-style villa from the 1700s and Victorian gardens with charming follies. The highlight of the park is Belvedere House, an enormous 18th-century hunting lodge designed by Richard Cassels, which overlooks Lough Ennell and boasts exquisite rococo plasterwork in its upper rooms.
We had a fab afternoon visiting Belvedere House and Gardens. The place was absolutely beautiful and so well maintained. The fairy garden was the best we have ever visited. The story behind its construction is the most interesting part, one angry brother blocking a view towards another angry brother's house (you can't choose your family!!) There is plenty to do once you're inside, tho note the house itself is closed for renovations. There are a series of walks of varying lengths. For smaller kids there is a decent playground, a fairy garden and a woodland swing (literally one swing down by the lake). The walk along by the lake is worth doing, some lovely views and it eventually loops back around to the walled garden, fairy garden and restaurant. The walled garden was possibly a bit run down, but note we visited in winter. A lot of the signs were fallen and broken etc. We finished up with a bite to eat in the cafe. Food was good.

We had a fantastic time shooting with a beautiful couple in the midst of a serene forest and sparkling lake on a crisp, cold day just a few days before Christmas. The scenery was breathtaking and the couple's love for each other shone through in every moment. It was such a joy to be able to capture these special memories for them to cherish forever. It truly felt like a winter wonderland and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect setting for this photoshoot.

It's a beautiful place to visit for nature lovers... Loads of walking to do and can take up to 2 to 3 hours to fully explore the place. 23 euros for a family of 4 which I felt is worth. The horticulture area mainly pertaining to the plants were well kept but the water bodies require a little more attention. I was amazed at the collection of beautiful flowers they had in. The fairy garden was cute but was small. We were there by 0430pm, but there were unusually tonnes of tiny flies which I was afraid would hit our eyes or nose. Absolutely loved the place, however was disappointed that the Belvedere house and cafeteria closes by 5pm even when the whole premises stays open until 8pm for the season.

Belvedere House and Gardens is the most magical of places. Beautiful walks along the lakeside in summer and the nicest place to view autumn leaves in a woodland setting. The house itself is very interesting and it has a lovely cafe attached for breakfast / lunch. Well worth the visit!

Had a delightful experience walking the grounds, the park and the house itself. It's an oasis of calm and serenity. You will fall in love with the beauty of nature and don't leave without a taste of the sumptuous food at the indoor Café. The girls were welcoming and service was superb. I loved every minute!

Nice place for a walk, picnic or family time. Adequate parking spots. There is a cafe inside, washrooms and children's play area inside the visitor centre. We went for family picnic with friends at the start of Feb so the garden wasn't blooming.
For me it is not worth a second visit when you have to pay 23 euros as a family entry fee, only for the sake of just the above!

We took a walk through the beautiful grounds and garden at Belvedere today in the spring sunshine. It's a peaceful and very impressive place to take a walk, enjoy beautiful lake views, tour the house and enjoy the gardens. There is also a cafe, bathrooms and other facilities.

I'm a sucker for estates and their garden parks. Even if it's raining, I love to wander around. My favourite were the walled garden and the octagon "teahouse". But I enjoyed the little stream that ends in the loch as well

Nice area for a walk around, Good amount of space - would be especially nice in the spring and Summer months. Interesting to read about and see the jealous wall. The house itself is under repair, so there is a slight reduction in cost (€7). There's a cafe there in the entry area which is nice for grabbing a coffee for the walk.

Amazing place rich in nature and peace. Great spot for a family getaway with nice garden and beautiful lake view and pleasant streams. Lot of trails to cover. The house is full of history and the wall of jealousy is a real folly. The fairy garden is a hit with my kid. Absolutely delightful to visit, highly recommend. The cafe is amazing as well. Parking is spacious.

Loughcrew Cairns, located in North Meath, Ireland, is a collection of Neolithic burial chambers dating back to around 3300 BCE. While not as famous as Newgrange, these ancient passage graves are a must-see for anyone interested in Ireland's ancient history. The site features clusters of megalithic cairns on the Slieve na Caillaigh hills, with public access to Carnbane East where Cairn T is the main attraction.
The history and view are well worth the long long walk up hill to this amazing place
John Ginder — Google review
I realize how out of shape I'm in when you take this walk up the steep hill to experience this awesome place. It was worth the walk up. The burial mounts was impressive. I could understand why this spot was used for putting your love ones ashes to rest here. The surrounding views of Ireland and the mountains beyond, even a lake, was seen from this location. All this happened many, many centuries ago. It's worth seeing if you have some extra time on your hands!

The loughcrew cairns are an amazing site. Entry between working hours will get you a private tour for free. It is an incredibly steep hill in places, so make sure you wear the right footwear and rain jackets.

Amy Durant — Google review
Definite must see to experience Ireland's ancient east . Megalithic cairns on hills around the area. Stunning views taking in many counties from the top . Glamping/camp site nearby. The hill leading to the main site is very steep so something to consider if you are taking small children or the elderly. Recon first.
Montablan Films — Google review
A bit hard to find but do not miss this site. The walk up to the top takes at least 20minutes. Give yourself at least 90 minutes to see it all. Take a rest halfway up, it is not too strenuous. We are 70 and made it. We'll worth the effort. The view on a clear day is incredible.... one can see for 50 miles easily.
I think this is better than Tara. Don't pass this one up. You will thank me, I promise. Oh, there is good parking and it is all free. Bring a camera.

A stunning location. Knew so little about it, one of Ireland's best kept secrets.
It is a healthy uphill walk to reach it.

My husband, aunts, and I went to Loughcrew on our holiday to Ireland. I was glad I packed some tennis shoes (I’m normally in flip flops) for the hike up to the top. It was somewhat physically challenging since it seemed like we were going straight up, but the view was worth it. We poked around a bit until it was time for the tour, and we really enjoyed learning from the guide. Would definitely do it again.
Chastidyi Parrott — Google review
It's a somewhat steep walk up to Loughcrew Cairns in County Meath, but there's a 360 degree view from the site. The cairns are 5,000-year-old Neolithic passage tombs and are considered one of the "big four" of Irish megalithic sites, together with Carrowkeel, Carrowmore, and Brú na Bóinne. According to legend the cairns were created when a giant witch, striding across the land, dropped her cargo of large stones from her apron.
The complex is spread across three hilltops, Carnbane East, Carnbane West, and Patrickstown. Cairn T (Carnbane East) is the best preserved and most accessible tombs at Loughcrew and is the central tomb of the whole complex. It faces the rising sun at the spring (March) and autumnal (September) equinoxes, which shines through the passage to illuminate the back wall of the chamber.

Very nice place. A lot of greenery around. We were told thereare free tours at the top but when the tour was supposed to start no tourguide showed up. Also, you can't climb on the top of the biggest cairn since it's unstable.

Cold and extremely windy the day we went. Be prepared to hike. A little hard, but worth the hike once you reach the top. Great tour and experience to see the burial mounds and to listen to the history behind it.

Nice place for a walk. Quiet in winter.
Sort of 3 walks available.
1)The gardens and church is a short stroll with interesting ornaments and flowers
2) the forest walk. A circumference of the gardens with some forest
2) creve Lough walk. About 6
There and back. Open countryside walk through farmland and copse forest. Very tranquil views of rolling countryside and smallish lake.

Alice at Loughcrew was, for 9 of us a family treat outdoors & in the dark which made it extra interesting. It's hard to describe so the photos do that job. The walk around lasted about an hour. The atmosphere of lights, dark & installations was exciting for kids & adults alike & was worth the distance to travel there. A little on the expensive side but then it took a lot of work to design & put together. Well done Loughcrew Estate

The estate gardens are amazing. They are beautifully kept and there is interesting and fun art in it. The history of Ireland is embedded in this property too. However they are quite small. The cost of admission is 8 euro per adult or 22 euro per family of four. Why it is so expensive is a reason for losing a star. There is also a coffee shop at the side I purchased 2 cappuccino's here and got little change of 10 euro! They were not nice if you cannot make cappuccino's then just make a Caffè Americano and I'll add my own milk. Second reason for losing a star. All in all its just very expensive and quite small which is such a shame because it's beautiful area with amazing history.

Family Day Out
The Fairy Trail is an exciting interactive sensory trail which gets children exploring Loughcrew Gardens and it is now open all year round!
To complete the treasure hunt-style trail, they will get an activity booklet and map and will have to solve clues and answer questions in order to get to the next part of it. Fairy houses, giant ants and a fairy forest await!
There is plenty of room for children to play on the garden’s lawns at Loughcrew.
Children are welcome to bring their bikes and if they get a little peckish, the coffee shop will satisfy all appetites. There is a little play area next to the coffee shop too.

We just went to the café area. But the options there are great. The sambos, the cafes. Our food was delicious and the area to seat is great too. I highly recommend a stop there. I think the gardens must be a good options for kids. I'm posting some photos with all the fairy things they seek in the shop. There's a free playground area too. The gardens area is paid.

Gardens themselves were a bit disappointing. They were nice in a rustic way and have potential but need work. They were more like a Park than Gardens, they need alot more planting. Also the real walled garden cannot be accessed and have cattle grazing in there. Alot more could be done with regard to the Tower House (where St Oliver Plunkett was born) and Church ruins. The Lough Cairn walk was very disappointing and need a lot of work to bring it up to standard. The Gardens and walk could do with picnic areas to enhance them. The Coffee Shop is excellent though and staff very pleasant.

Visited Loughcrew tearoom’s then took a tour through the gardens where all the trees, water features, old church ruins were illuminated. Half way through the walk we visited Santas Grotto, had a chat, took photos and received a gift. They were roasting Marshmallows over a fire pit. All in all a nice way to spend an evening.

Lovely place. Found it on Google maps by chance. Spent a couple of hours in the afternoon with the family looking around.
Although it is a lovely place, when you add the entrance fees and the costs of drinks and a sandwich in the cafe, it soon mounted up.
I would return again, especially as you can bring your dog. I'd probably bring a picnic next time though to keep costs down.

Waze took me into someone's house, better look out for signboards. Worth dragging the kids on the 1 hour trip from Dublin. Small but well organised museum. Covers history of English occupation, Cromwell's invasion and story of Lough Oughter Castle. Each room in the museum has a specific theme, like life in the convent, artefacts and a lot on the was of independence. A lot packed in a small place. The main attraction of this museum is the replica of ww1 trench. The trench is worth the visit to the museum. We covered the museum in about 90 mins but definitely need more time to read everything.

Amazing museum in Ballyjamesduff, County Cavan. There's something in the museum and outside grounds to keep eveyone interested. There are great displays on Gaelic football, Camogie, ancient Irish artefacts, life in a World War 1 trench, Irish Independence and rural Cavan life. The exhibitions are based on 3 floors and outside in the grounds at the back. Wheelchair users were visiting the same day that I was there and were able to use the lift to access each floor. You'll need to allow at least an hour to get around the exhibitions. The museum has a lovely cafe serving coffee and snacks, a good shop, toilet facilities and free parking. My second visit to the Cavan County Museum, and I enjoyed it just as much as the first visit. The WWI Trench Warfare installation was open this time, though only about half, it looked like. It was still interesting and informative about what the soldiers would have experienced in the trenches. The indoor museum is amazingly thorough and two visits aren’t enough to take it all in. This visit the top floor has a new exhibit about the Irish War of Independence, and there is so much history, pain and eventual triumph, though many years before peace.
Here are just a couple of photos of the archeological exhibits that are so fascinating.

Clonmacnoise is a ruined monastery in Ireland that was founded in the 6th century by St. Ciaran. Located next to the River Shannon, Clonmacnoise was once a thriving Christian monastery and served as a center for learning in Ireland. Today, Clonmacnoise is a beautiful and atmospheric ruin filled with stone ruins from centuries of monastic life.
Awesome place to visit. Lovely visitor centre and film to watch. Grounds are stunning (you can explore at will) and you can walk down to the River Shannon jetty where visitors arrive by boat and moor up to visit. I can highly recommend this place for a wonderful peaceful and thought provoking experience. There is a shop and usual facilities. Welcoming and helpful staff too.

First time here in years. We took a notion and came to visit on a beautiful summer day. The ruins are beautifully preserved and there is plenty of information inside about the area.
I also appreciate the staff telling us to pay as a group as it saved us €2 apiece. That kind of customer service deserves a mention.
I would give it 3.5 stars if that were an option. Some small points are lost with me because I feel it is a little lacking for a visitor centre with overheads. (Please don't let it dissuade you, it's just a personal feeling).
The main let down for me was I had hoped the offering in terms of entertainment could be a little stronger. It is a remarkable space to walk through and explore. Nearby there is the ruin of the castle and gorgeous views of the water. It was spectacular to swim in.
But the water offering is outside the centre and I just felt there could be something extra for visitors to make the place stand out a little more.
Still well worth a visit, especially if you are a history nerd like yours truly

A haunting, beautiful, historic location. Visit first thing in morning or last hour of the day, I was there for when it opened on a day with heavy bursts of rain. When I was ready to leave about 90 minutes after I arrived the serenity was disrupted by the amount of people walking around. There is a small museum where the original crosses are preserved with a good chunk or reading on the history and a room that plays a movie of this type of information on a loop. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Pay the entry fee to help the site run, don't be a tightwad and walk round to the cemetery and enter from the gate there. Use this route after paying to walk less than 500m to the Nun's Church up the lane.
The car park is not the biggest and looks like it could get full on a busy day. Good restrooms inside the site. Outside of the site, ruins and view, there is not a lot more, this is a focused visit for history and beauty.
The shop / cafe that is in the car park area (and not part of the historic site) is well meaning, yet not great. Stuffed full of tourist tat, expensive and the coffee is self service from a machine. If you need refreshments head to nearby Shannonbridge e.g. Shannonbridge Fort & Cafe (has a car park) or the other side of the bridge, The Hatch & Co.

Fabulous 6th century ruined monastery near the River Shannon. I would recommend arriving when they open or before 10:45am to avoid the arrival of the tour buses! It will become very crowded after 11:00am.

From my point of view most impressive Cloisture and Abbey complex in Ireland. The whole area is directly above the river of Shannon. Very nice Museum with excellent explanations and markings. Clean Toilette inside the Museum or outside in the Café. There is a large Parking area above the area. You can reach the Area via Car, bike or Ship. Excellent ship parking area before Clonmacnoise. Tickets can be purchased on site.

This gem is great to take family even with kids who are visiting. It allows for a great day out. Drive is scenic, grounds are kept to absolute perfection, ruins are free roam with loads to see, touch and feel. Would recommend to anyone.

Much the same as every other similar place, nice to see, but not if you've to go out of your way to visit
Friendly staff
The video is helpful to give you the history of the site and helps when going out to look at the ruins etc
Pity there was work going on and no cafe etc at nothing even near it (and it was cold as we visited in November)
Could do with a sympathetic stone or that walk way rather than trying to walk on grass and unfortunately some graves under grass

Gorgeous old abbey grounds right on the Shannon. Could easily spend an hour or two just exploring.
Gabe Wright — Google review
As an Irishman, it is our monuments, such as these at Clonmacnoise, that instill in me a deep sense of, not only my own history, but the history of every Irish person worldwide. I would advise a brief Google search of the ruins before visiting to get a deeper understanding. There is a short explanatory movie included in the entrance price, and a wonderful display of Celtic Cross stone carving. Located in a beautiful setting with the 40 shades of green jumping out at you, this, and the Spirit of the Christian Gael rising from the ground and puncturing your soul, let's you know that this is the real deal. THIS IS IRELAND. Expertly maintained. Bualadh Bos to all concerned.
Toilets on scene and a coffee/ souvenir shop nearby. Free Parking.

Amazing place on the banks of the river Shannon. Standing there on the bend of the river I could just imagine the vikings coming up the river. The whispering door was truly spectacular.

Gorgeous place with incredibly long history, set right by the river and the bog. Very friendly and helpful people in the visitor's center. Definitely worth a visit - and spending considerable time exploring the ruins of the monastery, the graveyard and the Medieval Celtic crosses.
Athlone Castle is a 13th-century fortress situated by the River Shannon and features eight interactive exhibition rooms with chronological themes. The castle showcases modern and engaging displays that depict the town's turbulent history and its evolution through time. The highlight of the castle is Siege Experience, which takes place in a circular panoramic gallery. The Normans built this castle in 1210 after asserting their power over Athlone's ancient river ford, which played an essential role as a crossroad on the Shannon.
With the staff being well informed about both Irish and Scottish history, proved the information centre to be really informative. As a traveler, it’s always good to find recommendations of local places that Google may not tell you about. This tourism centre was easy to find and it’s part of the Adamson Castle.
You are greeted warmly by friendly staff and they’ll ask you a little bit about why you’re visiting, they can give you the right information as long as you ask.
If you didn’t know, they also have self-guided tours inside the Athlone Tourist Information Centre, if you’re trying to waste a little extra time for your flight, also assuming you’re interested in seeing the remains of the Adamson Castle that was built in the 12th century.

Very interesting place, small museum, I set 4 stars, just because of several rooms and attentions have been closed, and also in was not for free as others do in during pandemic, overall I really recommend to visit, it can be also not better then Bunratty castle, but anyway good enough

A wonderful way to get an overview of Athlone’s history. As a rule I don’t really like interactive exhibits but found those in the castle enthralling. I recommend making it your first stop in the city. I believe another reviewer criticized the mannequins but I think they are brilliantly made and have a fantastic theatrical feel. Well worth seeing!

It looked good from the outside then it was dearer than Kilkenny castle so I didn't go in
I don't know how you can price something in Athlone higher than Kilkenny

Children of all ages can explore the farm at Glendeer Pet Farm, where they can pet and feed animals, play in outdoor and indoor playgrounds, and take in the sights and sounds of nature. The farm is great value for money, with friendly staff ensuring that all animals are well looked after.

I had such a perfect day in Glendeer Pet Farm today!
Such an amount of animals and birds in generous enclosures or just wandering around. All in tip-top shape, fed of the best, bedding spotless and plentiful. Staff are happy and welcoming, and the coffee is delicious!
Haven't been there since my kids were small, but I'll be back again soon.
If you like animals, get out there this summer! You'll come away with lovely memories. ❤

Great wee farm with enough variety of animals to see. Upon entry you get handed a bag of feed for all the animals. Cafe served us beautiful toasted sandwiches and coffee which catered to my girlfriends dairy free needs. Really enjoyed it.

Wonderful place and even great if your day is sunny! There is a spacious car park and a cafe serving delicious stuff. They host a wide range of pets and they are all adorable and cute. Llamas, donkeys, exotic cattle and wallabies, a meerkat and few Emus. There are different chicken breeds and bunnies and hamsters. Kids definitely love the place. A place calling for repeat visits.

Had a fantastic day. Massive variety of animals, all who seemed to be very well cared for. We brought our own picnic but there was a little cafe that had sandwiches. Had a nice coffee. Brilliant playgrounds. The egg hunt was great, it was split into different age groups and my 5 year old found loads! We got food to give to the animal's. Lovely little walk with fairy doors on the trees. Including the hunt we spent 5 hour's there!! And we didn't spend any time in the soft play or football area. We live over a hour and a half away but we will definitely be back asap.

Best pet farm by a long shot in Ireland. Staff were amazing and animals very well looked after. We brought a picnic and there is benches scattered throughout the farm, all regularly cleaned. It’s the perfect place for a day out.

A little gem of a place just outside Athlone. Not overly big but still a good 3 hours spent. Lots to see and all the animals are within touching distance with well laid out animal pens. It's clean and tidy with so much to do and see. The price is also very reasonable. So if you're looking to make a child's day a special day then make for Glendeer. All occasions can be catered for so go enjoy.

Last year we visited the farm on our way home from a road trip around Ireland. We decided to go last minute and didn't know what to expect but it was a brilliant day out with so much to do!
When we arrived we were given food to give to the animals. My son had a blast feeding the goats. There are loads of animals to feed and many you can pet too. My son fell in love with a lizard and didn't want to let him go!
There are loads of play areas including a huge playground, an indoor sandpit, a soft play area for toddlers and a fairy trail
We spent a few hours here but probably could have spent all day. Looking forward to going back here this summer!
Beautiful, magical place.
Excellent for teens and young children.
Great place for great pictures!
And with an amazing history behind us, to make us all reflect about life and how we have been living it.

Surrounding woods full of things for kids to explore and there is a very solid path which is buggy friendly. River too which is full of wildlife. Saw a red squirrel here for the first time too. Definitely visit here every few months. 10/10

The Corlea Trackway Visitor Centre showcases the impressive Iron Age bog road, dating back to 148 BC. The preserved 18m oak track is displayed in a humidified hall, offering insight into the unique flora and fauna of the bog as well as preservation methods. Visitors can enjoy an informative tour and a lovely 5km walk around the site.
I visited on the 1st of November just before the centre closed for the Winter. A very knowledgeable staff member greeted me early morning just as they were opening. It is an interesting site that has been on my list to visit for a while and so finally I was able to stop by! The story of the discovery and preservation of the timber trackway is fascinating and most of this timeline is shown on a short film in a cinema room on site. Access to the trackway is via the main hall and I to another dedicated room. It was incredible to see. The guide who took me in was helpful, knowledgeable and through, 5* experience overall and very pleased to have been able to see this whilst in the area,!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to the Corlea Trackway Centre. The guide was very informative and explained the significance of the Trackway in an entertaining and informative manner. The information boards are well presented and don't talk down to you like some modern attractions. Unfortunately the cafe was closed because of Covid so I cannot comment upon it. The centre is a little off the beaten track but well worth a look.

Preserved an Iron Age road here. Its the largest of its kind ever uncovered in Europe. The visitor centre just takes you back in time with the posters and all there. Absolutely brilliant in one word. Must visit if you are someone who loves to know the history and may be not that great for someone who loves the scenic beauty

Fantastic free exhibition, with great tour guide ( noel and mary). There is a lovely 5km walk.around the site as well. Highly recommend a visit or detour here.
Its a pity that authorities are not doing more to ensure the displayed portion of road is kept preserved, it has clearly deteriorated over the years. I hope my grandkids can see it in future!

A hidden gem and definitely worth the visit. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. It was amazing hearing through their enthusiasm about the conservation project and the different theories on why the trackway was built 148 BC. Stunning to be witness of such amazing craftsmanship. And then a lovely walk in the wetlands and learning about the restoration of the bogs.

An archeological treasure in Longford. Such nice friendly staff. Corlea has the potential to be amazing. Needs investment on top of the foundation that is there could make Corlea a great day out for the family. Ample parking and access from the Canal could make this spot an ideal day out for the family. As is it is a budding archeologists dream. A rough diamond that just needs some polishing.

Visited yesterday and really enjoyed it. The centre is well laid out and very informative, including a video. The road itself is amazing to see and you appreciate all of the hard work that went into it by the Celts. This centre is well worth a visit and there is a walkway at the back of the centre that takes you out into the bog. We chatted with Noel who shared lots of information about the site and was very knowledgeable.

Great place to visit. Very kind staff and very good information tour. Maria is very good explaining what this great wooden path could be. Here you have a complete section of a wooden path from the iron age dating around 148 BC. It is made of wood because crosses fields of turf. No one knows exactly the reasons why it was built and there still another section buried on the turf.
A place I recommend to visit
Beautiful park in Longford! Clean cosy, lots old trees, little lakes and river. There are a lot of different birds, they sing and these songs are like in paradise! There are many benches and it is a great idea to put a lot of wooden benches in the park, they are conducive to a pleasant rest and relaxation in nature. One of the best park in Ireland!☘️

Visited here while staying locally in Monaghan. Our kids are 3,4 and 7 and they really enjoyed the visit. The older two had a half hour lesson and the staff were really helpful, attentive and friendly throughout. It was a proper lesson full of tips and the kids felt safe at all times. There is lots of horses here and we got a good tour of the place too. It’s a really homely spot. We only booked last minute too and they were really accommodating. I just wished we lived closer! Staff were super friendly and helpful. The kids were treated well and small things like remembering their names meant alotm My brother with Downs Syndrome was treated in a way that respected his abilities and and encouraged him to have fun, a rare combination , given his condition. It was testament to the confidence and experience of the staff how he was handled. We even made use of their beautiful, scenic picnic area. Kids were encouraged to groom their horses and pat them, and ultimately built their confidence with them. Thoroughly enjoyable day and would highly recommend.

Best car day ever
My son Peter and I went on the 7 car rally driving super car and drift experience. As we went in sequence, one person was driving and one watching. The day was 80% dry and sunny( very rare this summer in Ireland) Seamus, David and Beanie did the safety round and the subsequent event rounds. I learnt a lot and had a lot of fun. I did not do much "gardening" (off track event as is known). The co drivers gave every assistance to get quicker each round. The wet rounds were a bit slower but you learnt a lot about cornering on wet roads. All the cars were great. We each had a favourite you would love to own. Nicola and Sinead kept everything on time and ensured you were strapped into the car correctly. Lunch was lovely. This was our first time at RSI and we will definitely be back. Great place to visit

Stayed at the cottages, very cosy, well kept and equipped (including free wifi). Beautiful walks and we took the kids out on one of the boats you can hire at the visitor centre beside the cottages. Also has a small park and a great coffee shop for a handy lunch. Loads of open spaces, forests and ruins for little people to explore. The national trust staff on site were exceptionally friendly and helpful and hiring the boat was a breeze. The waterways have beautiful scenery and plenty of wildlife to see from the boat. If you are staying in the cottages you also get free entry into Florencecourt and Castle Coole which are stunning as well. We will definitely be back!

Being on the water way, on Upper Lough Erne, it's a great jumping off point for kayaking and sightseeing in general. Downside is that you might get some very noisy jet skis, even close to the jetty. There is a coin operated hot shower when the main building is open.
Overall, a well kept National Trust property with lovely, helpful staff.

Place absolutely worth to visit for walkers. Many visitors despite low temperature and misty weather. No access to main castle

A beautiful place with fantastic views.
There are several walks that are suitable for all levels of mobility and other more remote walks that require good mobility, for example, the woodland on Inisherk Island. The latter walk requires good footwear even in the summer because the woods are muddy in parts.
Entry fees are £5.00 per person if you are not a National Trust member.
For day visitors there is sufficient car parking and there are facilities such as toilets and a cafe.
There are helpful information boards throughout the site.
We have always found the staff to be very helpful and pleasant.
On our last visit in August 2021 there was an abundance of butterflies and we saw Dark Green Fritilleries, Speckled Woods and Small Tortoiseshells.
Overall I recommend this hidden Northern Irish gem to both visitors and locals.

Grounds are lovely, and a very pleasant walk. It would be nice to able to get a bit closer to the main castle for some pics (I appreciate it's a private residence, but disappointing nonetheless). And certainly not within control of NT, but the public access roads are in a terrible state of disrepair. To be honest, I'd much recommend Castle Coole or Florencecourt over Crom.

I stayed with a friend at this lovely hotel on Mother's Day. I was greeted with the sight of 2 plates of beautiful chocolate strawberries decorated with baby pink meringues and fruit and a bottle of prosecco in ice, ordered by my son.
Loved the room, especially the large separate shower. Evening meal, service and entertainment later in the bar by Mono was very good. Decor is lovely throughout. Very clean, and warm for such a large hotel.
I enjoyed my swim in the very nice pool the following morning. Breakfast was very enjoyable.. Just remember to add natural yogurts .

We stayed here recently and it's the staff that make our visit so enjoyable. Always a warm welcome and friendly smile from everybody. As well as the beautiful surroundings and facilities of the hotel. A truly relaxing and enjoyable break. We would certainly recommend

We spent one night in this beautiful hotel, we would have liked more. We book a one night bed, breakfast and dinner. When we booked in, we took advantage of the swimming pool. Our room was beautifully decorated and spacious, our huge bed was very comfortable. Only let down was our view...
Our four course dinner was exceptional. The waiting staff was lovely, well trained, and comfortable speaking to guests.
The buffet breakfast was extensive. The restaurant catered to every palate.
We will definitely return to this hotel.

Myself and my son treat ourselves here 3-4 times per year for 2 night stay and golf . Stayed last week and once again very happy . Despite being a little soft due to the weather the course was excellent as usual . Well done to the greens staff. Food and service in the hotel top class in each of the restaurants . Staff as usual friendly and helpful . Roll on August for our next visit

One of my favorite hotels in Ireland! Exceptional staff throughout from the moment you check in, you are made very welcome and relaxed throughout your stay. Restaurants and bar food are excellent whilst the staff are trained to be as attentive and polite in their duties. Will be visiting for many more years to come

It is five years since I last visited. I was delightfully surprised. The dull dark furnishings have been replaced with much more modern colourful furniture and carpets. The place looks very uplifting and refreshed. Very efficient and effective service online and in person. Lovely staff. Many dedicated students working here to pay their way through college. The Summit Restaurant offers the best value and option for dining. Setanta more plush and more expensive, but suits that special occasion. Golf course and swimming pool. Busy and child friendly, with cinema and other activities for kids. Very reasonably priced by comparison with similar hotels elsewhere. Recommended.

Stunning hotel. Service was brilliant. Room was clean and done to a high standard. Beautiful grounds around the hotel. If you enjoy golfing defiantly the place for you. Pool facilities very relaxing. I didn't find the pricing over priced. I thought it was pretty normal. Will be coming back.

Just back from a 2 day break at the Slieve Russell Hotel for my partners birthday. They made us feel so welcome from the get go. They food was amazing the pool and spa area was amazing and the golf course is second to none so bring your clubs. I just want to mention one member of staff who nothing was too much of a hassle and that was Amanda who served us every morning for breakfast. My partner needs gluten free and Amanda sorted our ever need. Definitely will be going down again for another wee break as soon as possible.

I went for my Grandma’s birthday in July. It’s a gorgeous hotel with lots to do! We went mini golfing, we visited almost all of the restaurants, and we had a great time! The rooms were high quality with a selection of a shower and a bathtub, both separate from each other! There’s a nice view and had water bottle filling stations to stay hydrated!
10/10, I would definitely come back!

This hotel is absolutely stunning. Luxurious. Spent few days there last week and husband took ill. Michael the duty manager helped to calm us down and rang ambulance. He stayed until husband was taken to Cavan hospital. So kind and supportive.
Food is luscious......all staff very helpful...spotless room. I will defo be back again soon.

Beautiful hotel, lovely grounds for walk. Friendly helpful staff they were very efficient. All food was gorgeous and we never felt rushed. Drinks including cocktails, red wine and beer were perfect. Barr staff were very pleasant and happy, a sign of a well bar! Rooms were very clean, beds comfortable and shower perfect. We will definitely be back.

Beautiful grounds. The room was clean, and the service was good. Breakfast was very nice- large variety of foods. Please know however, if you are visiting on a weekend, this is a popular venue for weddings. There were 3 weddings going on when we arrived on a Saturday. Not that this is bad, but the parking was challenging, and some of the guests (who had imbibed too much) were a bit loud heading back to their room late at night.

Excellent family hotel. Everything catered for. Kids club for 4-12 Yr old children, and children fed free of charge during summer months. Excellent range of activities for young families.
WiFi very good.
Food was excellent with a variety of restaurants.
Very accommodating staff.

Very mixed stay, certain areas very tired, mouldy walls in hall ways, wasn’t a good first impression. The room, we booked was a suite which was a great size, however headboard was peeling, sofas stained and the bathroom desperately needed tlc.
Staff in main restaurant were very good however bar staff really needed to be told to smile and one in particular watch his language, the F word was used far too frequently for everyone to hear. Reception staff were efficient but again nice if more friendly. As for the door staff, one ignored me struggling with 2 suitcases and when it was raining they wouldn’t go out and cover wedding guests with umbrellas!
Food was excellent, even bar food although choice wasn’t huge the quality was very good.
The swimming pool really needs a refit, even as a guest I needed €1 for a locker, and the whole area needs a good clean.
We had a pleasant stay and the hotel has under gone some renovations the entrance and main rooms downstairs are nice but they need to back it up by updating the rooms and giving the staff some customer training

This is a nice hotel, but the young staff need more training. They are super friendly, but not professional enough for this hotel. We waited over half an hour for coffees, which were spilled. We had to change the hot chocolate as we weren't offered the option of marshmallows; again, just too young a staff. The dinner was super disappointing a few months ago, and almost 100€, which was way too much for awful main courses. Won't be dining again. It is a nice hotel though, and the grounds are lovely. Staff are very nice, but need more training.

Stayed last weekend. Hotel, staff, and food were superb. Played 2 rounds of golf. Unfortunately like every parkland type course it was very wet. However the greens were absolutely superb! Can't fault the Slieve Russell for the recent weather though. I'll definitely be back in the summer to experience it again. Beautiful place.

I recently attended a family event in the Slieve Russell hotel and was very impressed with the service and quality of food we received. The staff in the Cathal Cearnach restaurant were fantastic, especially our waiters Charlotte and Cameron. We had a number of smallies with us so it was greatly appreciated. The food was out of this world, I had lamb cooked to my liking and all other dishes were of a similar high standard. The wine pairing was spot on and the care given to our family member celebrating his birthday was very touching. The bill was reasonable, commensurate to the quality of food and service overall. I would definitely eat here again.

The hotel was lovely, and the service was great. Chicken wings for starters were very big and not enjoyable as they just came with a dip of hot sauce, steak was beautiful and cooked to perfection. The swimming pool had too much chlorine in it and stung my eyes, so I didn't stay in it too long.

Unexpected enjoyable visit. We thought it was just a railway museum but it's much more. The passion and enthusiasm from the team of volunteers is fascinating. Philip our tour guide is so passionate that it's endearing. It's run solely on a small entry fee, donations and some small tv/film contracts. No government funding at all bar a couple of small grants, which such a shame. So many surprising things to see there. I really do recommend a visit here.
Melissa Rubotham — Google review
A fabulous museum with a wonderful collection of railway and transport (and the rest!) items. The tour is fascinating.
Not to be missed if you have any sort of an interest in these things, but make contact ahead of time to make sure they'll be there as it's volunteer run.

This was an amazing tour and experience for children and adults. Visiting this beautiful meuseum was like taking a step back in time, we rode an antique train, and some other great experiences, viewable in my photos here. Michael the co-owner and guide was fantastic, he was so passionate about conserving trains, artillery, submarines, trucks and planes. His enthusiasm was contagious and inspiring. He had a beautiful story for each piece of equipment he and his friends had rescued. I´m not very much a technology/machinery museum enthusiast but this was one of the best of this kind i´ve ever visited. This tour/museum had a beautiful Irish charm to it. Again, the icing on the cake was Michael´s enthusiasm, his enthusiasm to help children enjoy the museum, his enthusiasm to preserve this important part of our history, his enthusiasm for sharing it with the community. It. would be great if he could get some government funding to help preserve this beautiful heritage of ours. Call ahead, this is a passion project so seems to be only opened on the weekends. We stopped here along our Shannon cruise, super easy to walk to from Dromod pier.

Can't recommend this museum highly enough. So much here to interest all age groups. Really well set out and just so much to see. My husband and I found this place in a brochure and decided to see what it was like. It is so unique in that it’s a time capsule of Irish history. One room is dedicates to over 4000 egg cups from all over the world! Beautifully displayed in glass cases.
They have beautiful restored cars, trucks, fire trucks, farm machinery…just to name a few.
Our amazing guide, Eugene, taught us so much about items in this extensive collection. Many of these treasures were items we never even knew existed!
Glenview Folk Museum is set up to display different places such as a butcher shop, a telegraph operator, a shoe maker, a general store, war remnants…too much to mention but well worth the visit!!
Their motto is “Preserving the past for the future” and it excels at doing that!
You will not be disappointed!

We were very impressed by the exhibition, especially the variety of exhibits from different areas of life make this place so unique. The loving design allows you to travel back in time. Impressively restored vehicles, all sorts of hand tools and well-preserved household helpers that the owner is happy to demonstrate. And it feels like there is a story to tell about every piece. We felt very comfortable and recommend anyone who is in the area to stop by, just a stone's throw away from Ballinamore. By the way, we combined it with a wonderful walk along the canal from Ballinamore, You come out directly at the intersection of the museum 👍

Great value for money. The place was spotlessly clean. The cars/truck in particular were mint. A great way to spend a few hours - you will not regret paying a visit. Where else would you get to see 4,000 egg cups?

Castle Coole is an 18th-century neoclassical palace situated in a 600-hectare wooded parkland that belongs to the National Trust. The restored stately home boasts of double cantilevered stairs, Italian marble fireplaces and Regency furniture which can be seen on guided tours. Additionally, it houses basement servants' quarters and features a lake inhabited by the UK's only nonmigratory colony of greylag geese.
Fantastic experience in Castle Coole. Tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly and the interior of the house is worth a look. The grounds around the castle are well maintained and the walk is definitely worth it 👌

From the outside, it is a typical castle like many others. Things start to get interesting inside, where you can see a few solutions typical of Italy and France. Ubiquitous symmetry and high standard of finishes. Glamour and posturing rule.

Lovely house - interior is stunningly grand and worth a tour. Good second hand book shop and cafe on site. Walks in estate are pleasant. Staff were helpful and informative.
Dropped one star due to poor system of booking on house tours - we were told to arrive 15mins before tour time and we would get on. We did but a couple told the same thing didn't. People who arrived later could book on sooner because tours couldn't be booked on arrival.

**National Trust meets Downtown Shabby**
I was very disappointed by my visit to Castle Coole Estate. The house was in a poor state of repair, with some rooms looking very run down and shabby. The fabrics were worn and faded, and some of the furniture was sparse and imposes uninviting. But invites taking your money no problem. Not the sign of a wealthy estate I've come across to expect.
One room was very dark. I felt I could have done with a flashlight to look around. Mostly, everything is roped off, and the house has restricted access for paid visitors. There are very few places for people with disabilities to sit down and catch a breath. They're roped off, too! The only room that impressed me was the rotunda, which had some beautiful gold decorations and an Irish harp. Possibly why the National Trust tour guide books have been withdrawn from sale to National Trust members and visitors?
The staff were mainly very rude and unwelcoming, especially when they told me that I was not allowed to take any photographs inside the house. There was no sign anywhere that said this, and I felt like they were violating my rights as a visitor. Despite this house being used in local television programmes and locally infamous. They also did not explain anything about the history or significance of the house and just rushed me through the tour. After an hour, I was never so glad to leave. The time really dragged. We were constantly watched as a group around the house as if we were being treated as commoners and potential thieves. The only nice women I found around the estate was a receptionist and an elderly voluntary lady in the library shop.
The courtyard was a mess, with peeling paint and weeds everywhere. The café was a joke. Just garden tables and chairs outside with what looked like an ice cream van. Tbh, I've seen better stalls at Nutts Corner Sunday Market. The gardens were nonexistent, just a field of overgrown grass and cows. Contrary to the map in the outside overlooking. The lake walk I paid for is possibly the my shortest in recent memory.
I felt like I wasted my time and money at this place, and I would not recommend it to anyone. It is a shame that the National Trust and its current inhabited residents do not take better care of this historic estate.

This was my first time at Castle Coole. It is such a beautiful spot. Even though it's situated in the heart of Enniskillen Town, you feel like you're in the middle of nowhere it's so serene and peaceful. The lake views, the mountain, the mansion, the grounds, it's all so beautiful. We took a guided tour in around the house. Unfortunately visitors aren't allowed to take any pictures inside but the tour was interesting, very informative and full of history and engaging facts. The interior is splendid. So many beautiful details to see and experience. If you're in the area I would recommend stopping by here. The coffee shop too was full of lovely treats and a great cup of tea. All the staff ee encountered were so welcoming and friendly.

I have visited the grounds many times before walking my dogs, however this was my first time inside the house. Its stunning, I was not expecting to see so much of the interior. Our tour guide was Emma, she was a vibrant fun tour guide, very polite, knowledgeable & welcoming. We ended up having a tour alone with her as no body else showed up to that particular tour slot (although there were 25 in the previous tour). We really enjoyed the tour & learning about the history of castle coole. Owners requested no photos of the interior home are allowed.

Florence Court House is an 18th-century estate situated in the midst of picturesque woodlands, boasting a forest park and gardens. The property features stunning rococo plasterwork and antique Irish furniture, which can be viewed on a guided tour, including the servants' quarters. The walled garden and an ancient Irish yew tree, considered to be the mother plant of all Irish yews located at Cottage Wood's edge, are also worth exploring.
Enniskillen Castle, constructed in the 16th century and once a stronghold of the Maguire chieftains, is now home to a local history museum and gallery featuring military artifacts. The castle is located on the western end of Enniskillen's central island, with its Watergate towers overlooking passing cabin cruisers.

Free parking at museum, free entry to the site. Café at entrance along with toilets. The area is very well maintained. Clean and tidy. Tables outside you can also sit at and soak up the atmosphere.
Various areas to have a look at, there was only one building I believe does not have a lift to go upstairs and that is the main building in the centre as it is on of the oldest. However, you can enter the ground level which is the original part of the building. Everywhere else is wheelchair and parm accessible. Staff very friendly and helpful. I believe you can pay for a tour guide if you wish.
There is a beautiful walk along the water way that runs just outside the museum. You can sit and watch some boats go by, groups doing water sports that are on the little island or kick a ball around on the grass area. A beautiful area to visit.

Fantastic displays and real value for money, you could easily spend half a day here if you went to the café as well. We didn't get to try that as we arrived at about 3:30pm and 4pm is the last entry so wanted to see as much as we could. 1.5hrs is a bit of a rush, I'd recommend 2-3hrs with a break.

Went to library to study for a very important advanced life support exam. Asked for private study area. Automatic door at one end of room and another door at other end. Staff use study area to walk from one end of building to other. Constant noise of automatic door opening and constant slamming of other door. When asked if staff could us another way to walk instead of through a “private” study area I was told yes but it’s closed the doors are locked. When again asked if this could be opened to allow for a quieter study area I was told a simple NO. I asked to speak to the library manager but was told they were both on tea break but I could fill a complaint form out. I felt this attitude of the staff was appalling. Even the toilets in a public library are closed and had to walk to a local shopping centre to use bathroom. My advice to anyone wishing to study in the Omagh area is to AVOID Omagh library. Worst library and appalling attitude from staff

Well maintained boardwalk. We were lucky with the weather and it not being too busy mid week. Steps are quite steep but can be taken at your own pace. I had heard negative reviews prior to going but our experience was great.
We parked in the car park near to the marble arch caves, £5 in and worth it. Would recommend popping into the visitor centre at marble arch caves to use the toilets before as no others available!

Amazing spot, but choose your day right! We went up on a very windy day and the last bit of the steps wasn’t doable. But I will definitely be back, the views are incredible and it is a very well laid out path, and the Marble Arch caves are just next to the car park to visit afterwards!

Not sure how to review a trail lol. This is a hard one. Took us 4.5 hours in total from start to finish. I would suggest to go on a sunny day. We went on a rather rainy day and boy we were drenched from top to bottom. It kinda takes away from a good hike day. Overall a good experience. This trail has been on my list for ages and I’m happy to have completed it.
Tip:Take water and some food with you.

Great walk. We drove up from Waterford to do this walk for the May Bank Holiday. Totally worth it, we went to see the Marbke Arch caves too which was only 28euro for 2 adults. Both greta experience would totally recommend. Walk isn't easy but satisfying once you reach the top! LOTS of steps!

This trail can be really nice with good weather. In our case with wind against while ascending made it quite hard. It is very rewarding to reach the top of the stairs anyway and the view is lovely. It's a must to do in Ireland but is not the greatest trail due to changing weather conditions.
