A lovely museum. Interesting books and art work on the history of french food. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

It's great if you love your comics. Two things to improve:
- lights are a bit dark
- almost no panels have an English translation
Ponpoko Smith — Google review
Good museum. section on Picasso is particularly good. Gives a good overview of the history of comic books; the main section on the history is only in French which wasn't a problem as one of us spoke French well but it does make it a little harder to engage with if you are not a French speaker. The rest is in both languages so there is something for everyone. An impressive collection which they change regularly so always something new to see.

It’s convenient to reach from the center ville by feet. The museum was not crowded in February and I spent 2 hours enjoying there!

Disappointing. The special exhibition on comics and fashion was much better than the regular museum - it probably made going there worth it when it wouldn’t have been otherwise. But of course it’s a temporary exhibition, so you might do well to find out if it’s still running (or if they’ve replaced it with something else) before you go.
One thing that I found very odd was that the special exhibition had at least the major signs translated to English, while the main, permanent museum had only French text. Now, there was still a lot of info in the exhibition that was French-only, but at least the most important text was readable for non-French-speaking visitors like me. Why would you translate the special exhibition and not the main museum? It definitely lowered the value of the main museum for me, not knowing what I was supposed to be looking at.
Furthermore, the lighting was dim and the layout was poor in the main museum. It made the comics on display quite hard to see and to read (some of the comics, at least, were in English). Again, the special exhibition was much better designed. They should get the person who designed the special exhibition to redesign the main museum.
Matt Condon — Google review
Our visit coincided with a special exhibition on the connection between music and comic strips. This made impressive use of multimedia techniques to tell its story and provided an interesting blend between US artists/authors and French ones.

Great place to stop with Motorhome, level ground, toilets in museum when open. Walk up the hill to a lovely city

An interesting museum. Audio description is available in French but there's plenty of written information in English. Helpful staff.

I’ve been waiting to visit the Musée de la Bande Dessinée since it moved into its new home a few years ago. I’d visited its old location in the CIBDI many times over the years when visiting the Angoulême comics festival, but I hadn’t been for about 18 years and so had missed out on the new building.
Well, finally I made it this year and it was worth the wait. The permanent exhibition on the history of the comics art form was immaculately presented and features a mix of rare original art and reproductions as well as printed copies of comics and artifacts. There’s interactivity in the form of video presentations dotted about and I highly recommend the audio presentation that you can download as a podcast from iTunes (in a number of languages).
At the time of writing, there are three temporary exhibitions as well—the comics from around the time of the May ‘68 riots (the beginnings of the comics for adults movement in France), a look at the work of René Goscinny in the movies (featuring the many adaptations of Astérix, Lucky Luke et al. ), and a marvellous exhibition on the new wave of Arab comics that simply blew me away with the breadth of fantastic work that’s being created in the Middle East, both in print and online.
The visit wouldn’t be complete without visiting the museum’s bookshop. I’d heard good things about it but if you’re a comics fan, you’ll feel like you’ve died and gone to heaven. Simply put, it’s one of the best comics shops you’ll find anywhere (they do mail order too).
In short, if you’re in the area, and you have the slightest interest in comics, you really need to visit. Actually, even if you’re not into comics, it’s well worth going along. You’ll learn lots and who knows? It may just make you a believer in the power of comics after all!

We were worried about taking our small children there but it was a fantastic experience for them. Lovely children’s corner with books, games and dressing up. We loved the current exhibition on music and cartoons- the kids loved the dance floor! Beautiful curated and just the right size. Bit of a trek back to the old part of town after (but over interesting bridge).

For lovers of BD it's interesting. Has a big variety of books, the space is very pleasant.

Great experience. Thousands of examples of comics from around the world, very neatly presented. I strongly recommend it, even if you are not a comic book fan.
Angoulême Cathedral is a magnificent example of medieval Romanesque architecture, constructed in the 12th century. Its stunning facade features intricate sculptures and carvings, while the interior boasts exquisite stained glass and impressive statuary. The nave is covered by three domes, adding to its grandeur. Situated on a cliff's edge, visitors can enjoy breathtaking views of the valley below.
Beautiful building.

Very beautiful Cathedral. Inside and out, it is so nice. It sits on the edge of a cliff, so there's a great view of the valley below.
John Robison — Google review
Angouleme has the distinction of having a Romanesque Cathedral, not a Gothic one like many other cities in France. The carved facade is the masterpiece of the Cathedral. Several themes are represented: Evangelization, the Ascension of Christ and the Doomsday. To the right of the portal, you will see a hunting scene and a carved frieze depicting a cavalry battle inspired by the Song of Roland. Paul Abadie's son who was also an architect undertook an extensive campaign of restoration in the 19th century. Since 2000, the works of smartening up and restoration has been continuing.

Musée Angoulême is a captivating museum housed in the old bishop's palace, showcasing a diverse collection of art and artifacts spanning from prehistoric times to the present day. The museum features an extensive range of exhibits including fine arts, archaeological findings, and ethnological pieces. Visitors are impressed by the architectural fragments, paintings, and art pottery on display. Notable highlights include a Gallic helmet crafted over two thousand years ago and a fascinating prehistoric and geological collection suitable for children.
Really cool museum with artefacts from the local area and beyond. I also very much enjoyed the temporary art exhibitions. 5€ entry or 3€60 if you're a local resident. Thoroughly recommended.

A superb and varied collection. I was impressed by the architectural fragments, fine paintings, the art pottery. The Gallic helmet is a masterpiece craftsmanship, hard to believe it is over two thousand years old. The prehistoric and geological collection will be excellent for children. Friendly and helpful staff and the garden with views of the cathedral was a peaceful oasis. Kept me for three hours but not so big a museum you suffer cultural fatigue!

Square Girard II, Rue Corneille, 16000 Angoulême, France
Château de La Rochefoucauld is a well-preserved castle dating back to the 11th century, offering tours and elegant grounds. Resembling a Loire Valley castle, it impresses with turreted medieval towers and lavish Renaissance galleries. The magnificent Italian-influenced Cour d'Honneur is one of France's finest courtyards.
Beautiful, large castle! Absolutely worth your visit!

Amazing château, nicely decorated with family photos, at the same time there was an old furnitures and athmosphere. It was kept respecting the past. Lovely libraries and very nice guide lady. I recommend warmly to visit!

Very well preserved castle with the original furniture etc still in place. Entrance price is somewhat high (adults 10EUR, children < 12 5 EUR) but its privately owned and maintained.
Really worth a visit. The central staircase is amazing.
Numerous informational stands are present in all the rooms giving you a thorough idea of how life was in there.
joris v — Google review
This amazing Chateau is stunningly beautiful both internally and externally. The history of the building has been perfectly preserved and is definitely not to be missed if you are in the area. Although a serious piece of history, fun can be had by dressing up in the period clothing supplied in one of the rooms.
So glad I visited.
Dennis Dixon — Google review
Interesting chateau in the region, probably one of the biggest locally. Privately owned. Huge renovation works have been done but still a lot to do! Great to take the children for an afternoon. It takes about an hour and a half to visit with some guides available at certain times. Great views, lots of shade for picnics etc.

Great castle. Entrance fee adults 10 euro, children 5 euro. But for that money you can see a lot of the castle. 3 floors, basement and underground hallways. I die not expect that it was zo interesting. 100 worth the visit.

Classic French chateau having beautiful dark wood rooms and furniture.
The whole experience was enlivened for me due to a massive thunder and lightning storm overhead.

Absolutely amazing castle. So great that the family opens this up to the public. (They still live there in one wing) Amazing to see the family photos and the old furniture. Unbelievable stonework. At the top there is a room full of dress up clothes for all ages. You can pick your outfit and walk around the castle pretending you are back in older times. The castle is big enough to be interesting to adults but at the same time not too big so that kiddos have fun too.
Katalin C — Google review
Didn't visit the castle. Just walked up to take some pictures. Pretty and impressive from the outside. 12euros for adults to enter. Closed on Tuesdays. Free parking is available, just drive up the slope. We parked at the bottom next to the castle wall and walked up. It was only about 10-12mins. Large grass area to take pictures. Nice visit and a lovely cafe just at the bottom. See my other reviews.

You could see so much of the chateau, go into the rooms, fabulous. Oh a dressing up clothes of the era..such fun!

Allow a couple of hours to view, more if you include the guided tour of the library. It was better than Chambord, much more to see even though it is smaller. Plenty of information in English and friendly helpful staff.

Leuke, uitdagende uitstap.

Fun, challenging outing. Went here with young kids and spent an afternoon. It was not busy, the employees were very friendly and helpful. There was plenty of variety on the course.
The snacks are not of a high standard, but that is not important. After all, you don't come to the park to have lunch.
Definitely recommended.

Amazing experience for the grandkids and their parents!
Good value, as once in, you can do the routes as many times as you want.
Picnic area in shade, cafe for light snacks and ice creams.
Great, professional staff.

Brilliant fun ! We went as a family (10,6 and 3) one adult went off with the two older ones and one with the toddler. It's not just the bouncy castle for the toddlers there are two other play areas for the adventurous younger ones. The park is really well run. There are plenty of staff around who are ready to help those that get stuck or if you have questions but on the whole you left to it (after a quick tutorial). This is great as you have the freedom to move to the zones you want to or the main zip wire over the lake (great fun). The staff are also very friendly, have great English and offer useful tips to the children when they need it. Also the location is beautiful. So glad we went, the children had a brilliant time. It was quite a drizzly day but we were still able to have fun.

Great day out. The treetop activities are good and you can pay extra for the climbing wall, catapult, and airbag jump. My children are 12 and 8 and you can get away with just paying for the tree top stuff. It’s good value and the staff are very helpful and friendly. Highly recommended. Especially on very hot sunny days as there is plenty of shade!

Kids loved this place and enjoyed the few hours there. Different courses for different ages.
Very cool place. They are pretty far with the restauration and the view is smashing. You can take a guided tour or be your own tour guide with a map and a very informative and entertaining field guide available in French, English and Dutch. You get to really understand how the place was built and used for nearly a 1000 years. The people at the reception spoke excellent English. We spent about an hour on the site and had to only pay 7 euro's for 2 adult and 2 children. The town is also well worth a visit with its 17th century market hall, church and quaint streets.

A castle with an interesting history. Nice views over the countryside from it's vantage point.

Brilliant outdoor track, well maintained equipment, helpful staff and a smaller track for kids from 7 years. Worth a visit if you're into karting. There's also an on site bar/café and a nice terrace to sit on and watch the racing.

Daan Ravesloot — Google review
Great track. Two types of kart. Big (13hp) and bigger (28hp). Smart to start first session of 10 minutes with the smaller kart. The heavier kart is a monster with power, speed and still great traction. I weigh 97kg and still did not lose it. What a buzzz. Great help also, English speaking too. My French is fine so no need for me but good for others out there. This track is better than the track in Angoulême. This is not a cheap sport but what does that matter. You want kart, go here.
Wouter Dillmann — Google review
Nice racetrack and nice & fast carts. The track has nice corners (difficult and easy ones) and also a long straight to go full speed. The cart was really responsive and had a nice handling. It was fun!

Amazing , I would like to say thank you to all the staff , amazing, The track was great lots of bends and overtaking, the karts great , equipment helmets, etc fresh and clean. From the youngest 6 to use oldies watching was Amazing
Mouseman — Google review
Fantastic open-air track nestled in the woods. The track large of size, and contains plenty of corners as well as straights for high speed. They have a wide selection of carts, ranging from carts for children, to medium power (13 bhp), to the really powerful (28 bhp). The latter require a session in the medium carts before entrance, but are well worth it; they are exhilarating to drive. Prices are reasonably at market rate, but the high power carts will set you back quite a bit. Prices on the website. I would describe the facilities as adequate, but better if you dare to ask, and the time is available; they only keep your lap times on a nearby television, and if you're not quick enough before the next session on a busy day, you've lost your lap times and will not be able to recover them in any way! That should really be improved at the track. However, if you show some interest to the staff at the carts, they will provide you with some tips and a map for the best driving on the track, and speak reasonable English. Come on a quiet day and your experience will be great!
Lastly, they allow you to take your own cart on the track, from September onwards until either may or june (not sure), for a license fee and an insurance fee. For 40/60 euros you could drive AND race for either half or the whole day. That I consider one of the track's greatest advantages.
Overal a great experience in a nice environment, though lacking lap times.
Ryan — Google review
Fantastic track, friendly staff. 10/10 would recommend. Only thing I would say is the pricing for multiple tickets should carry a better reduction to incentivise buying them in bulk. Amazing experience overall though.

Lovely circuit and on-track people! First time we went we had 3x10 minutes and even came back on another day for 3x10 minutes. Would definitely love to come back for a third time!!
The Église souterraine Saint-Jean dite monolithe is an impressive troglodyte church carved out of a limestone hillside, dating back to the 12th century. The audio guide provides informative insights into the remarkable architecture and history of this underground church. Situated in a quaint town with a relaxing atmosphere, it offers a unique experience for visitors. The cool interior makes it an ideal location for events like weddings due to its lovely acoustics.
Outstanding achievement of human engineering, if you think that they did this all by hand inside a huge rock. Impressive. Also the little town in which it is situated has a romantic relaxing, almost sleepy atmosphere. I love the place, make sure to stop by the small restaurant on the main square to have drink or lunch/diner.

I'll never travel to Bergerac without this trip planner again
During a visit to Verteillac, I had an amazing day at Brantome Police Horses and Friends. The experience began with a fascinating presentation about the horses' past working conditions and the origins of the sanctuary. Afterwards, I was given a tour of the stables where I met the magnificent Lewis and other beautiful horses. The day concluded with a delightful afternoon tea. If you're in the vicinity, this is definitely a must-visit destination that requires advance booking.
Brilliant paradise for police horses retired through trauma and hard stressful work sometimes playing the hero. Amazing place, a must see.

Visited during our stay in Verteillac and had a brilliant day. We were given a very interesting talk with film of the horses in their previous working environment and told how the sanctuary started. We then had a tour of the stables and met the horses including the most magnificent Lewis. We then had a lovely afternoon tea which completed our trip. If you are anywhere near the sanctuary this is an absolute must, need to book in advance. I would recommend this to anyone regardless of age. Would definitely visit again.

Passionate dedicated owners and staff looking after some wonderful horses who have worked to serve the British public and thoroughly deserve to have safety and comfort after their working life. Some very touching individual stories of both horses and mounted police officers. We hope the sanctuary continues to go from strength to strength and long into the future.

I just wish I could give it 5 more 🌟.
What a lovely place, and so honoured to have met some of the retired police horses who took part in the 2011 riots in London.
So good to see them living a good life in peace in the French countryside, after all the horrible stuff they went through during the riots.
The tea and cakes afterwards is out if this works too ( I highly recommend the chocolate cake !!!)

This place is absolutely fantastic and a must visit when passing through the area. Prebooking is strongly advised as it gets extremely busy. You get to hear about the Life of a Police Horse video, interact with the horses on site and really spend a lovely day in the large, beautiful open grounds around you.

Such a great place they work hard to look after these beautiful horses
Underground network with stalactites, 19,000-year-old paintings & a park showing how cavemen lived.
Loads of great Information and some fun things to do. The cave itself is stunning and the effects produced to give you a feel of what it would have been like as a home or sacred place of its day are brilliant. Obviously no photos taken in the cave!

Interesting guided walk through the caves . It takes about twenty minutes and it is not strenuous so most abled bodied people could do it. The tour is conducted in French but you can get a fact sheet in different languages at the ticket counter. The cost was €9.50 per person

Great guided tour of the grottes. Our guide spoke in both French and English which was very nice. A wonderful experience! Photography in not allowed in the grottes.

Excellent caves, stunning stalagmites & stalactites along with fantastic galaries... enjoyable light & sound show. The highlight for me was the man-bison painting which is the earliest depiction of a human hunting a bison & dates from about 19000 years ago. Best advised to pre-book tour as it's gets busy during the holiday high season.

Gorgeous trip with my daughter...educational, beautiful and fun.
The guide was excellent as were the facilities.
Don't be fooled by the heat outside. Take something a bit warmer for when you're in it!!

A brilliant place to visit, definitely worth the price...the caves are very impressive and I loved the light and sound show half way through the tour. The staff were lovely and very helpful, and happy to give the tour in English as well as French. We went to the 11.30 slot to fit around the rest of our days plans, which meant we did not have time to enjoy the garden and the cafe (they close over lunch)....if you want to make the most of those facilities as well as the caves pick your time slot with that in mind. I 100% recommend a visit though!!

11 euro. Very good tour do 40minutes in cave, ask for English if needed or else guide will only speak in french. Gardens very pleasant. Excellent for families. Highly recommended. Nice cafe and plenty of parking. Caves are very cool so good on hot days!

The best cave we’ve been to! We mentioned to the tour guide that someone in our group was English, so during the tour she changed in and out of French and English and she was so knowledgeable about everything. The inside is spectacular with so many passages and rooms to see. The prehistoric paintings and light show were just amazing. Truly you have to go!

These are a must to go and see. Great little walk around the gardens. Easy to park. Great cafe/bar. Could be better with an English speaker maybe at certain times? So much information is lost to non speaking French people. But then I'm in France.

Better than I expected. Lots of parking available. Building area is nice, has a cafe, gift shop, playground and other bits. The tour guide was a nice guy, spoke good English, and had great knowledge of the cave. There was a little light show that was quite cool. I was surprised to see actual cave art from 20k years ago as part of the tour, really amazing how well preserved it is.
Brantome Abbey, nestled in the picturesque village of Brantome in the Dordogne region, is a stunning riverside Benedictine abbey with an 11th-century bell tower and cliff caves once inhabited by monks. Often referred to as "The Venice of the Dordogne," this charming destination is situated along the Santiago de Compostela pilgrimage route. The abbey, founded by Charlemagne and housing relics of Saint Sicarius, offers a fascinating glimpse into history.
We wandered around in the cave and totally enjoyed all the history and gardens. Then we ate at one of the sweet little cafes on the street of the Abbey. After that we hit the shops in the little village across the bridge and souvenir shopped my little heart out. Wonderful day!
Vonnie Thornton — Google review
Didn't go to the Abbey itself but this is a very pretty picturesque town that is well worth a visit at any time but especially when the sun is shining and the Friday morning market is open. I've been visiting this region for years and this spot is always a favourite.

Beautiful little village that has seen every culture from Neanderthal man living in Troglodyte Caves to the work of monks dating from as far back as 8th Century. Recommended to us by another Brit traveller and glad we made the trip

Visited Brantome for the second time and I have to say its an amazing beautiful place. There are even shops built into caves next to the river which surrounds the island. You can hire canoes and kayaks and paddle around the island and over a weir to complete a circuit. Would I visit a third time... definitely. Fantastic.

A truly wonderful feast for the eyes.
This is a lovely place to visit and surprisingly things aren't that expensive.
The parking is everywhere and free... Oh how the Brits could learn a few things from the French. 1) you don't have to charge a fortune for parking. 2 things in tourists centres don't have to be priced to make a days profit from selling one item. Price them properly and you'll sell lots... The French do.
Cafés, restaurant's and lovely little shops are everywhere.
I'd go if I were you...

Brantome is one of the most beautiful and preserved village in Dordogne. The Abbey is so interesting and the walk along the river is beautiful. Kayak tours are also available and recommended. You can sit and relax by the old stone bridge in front of the water mill. Many shops offer locally made crafts.

Saint-Jean-de-Côle is a charming medieval village located in the Dordogne department of Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. Despite its small size, it boasts a range of historical attractions including the 15th to 17th century Castle of Marthonie, a Roman-Byzantine church from the 12th century, a priory that has been converted into a restaurant, and an old bridge dating back to the 15th century.
The owner, Arnaud, is an amazing host. We walked in without an appointment (which is required for the few vineyards I tried to visit). He welcomed us, and was such a warm, genuine person. He gave anecdotes of wine making, his life and family.
To be honest, wine tasting can be intimidating in France, and Arnaud was the best person to give a newbie that amazing experience of French wines.
Yong Shing Chong — Google review
Chanced upon this winery and absolutely loved it. Arnaud and his wife runs a lovely winery, the tour was the right length which gave us an appreciation of the process without being boring.
The wine was fantastic and I got a bottle.
The tour was whimsical, due to Arnauds magic tricks and his passion for wine. He answers questions earnestly without making me feel silly for asking.
I hope I get a chance to return!

Saint-Émilion Collegial Catholic Church at Saint-Émilion offers great views of the town and surrounding area from its tower, which can be accessed by obtaining a key from the tourist information office. The church is a blend of Romanesque and Gothic architecture, with impressive frescoes and a peaceful atmosphere. Visitors appreciate the historical significance of the church and enjoy exploring its courtyard and cloisters. Located in St.
What we appreciated the most about Saint-Émilion Collegial Church is the age and that it is like two buildings in one. The older section, away from the altar is clearly Romanesque style. The section, where the altar is currently located, is Gothic in style, larger windows, open ceilings and such. We really enjoyed our visit to the beautiful church.

Impressive and historical church located in St. Emilion with very convenient parking available close-by.
I came early and there were not very many tourists around as yet which meant you could explore without feeling cramped or rushed.
The Courtyard and small cloisters were my favourite parts.
Red Barker — Google review
This church was interesting to walk through and very low key - not a lot of people here. The frescos are phenomenal for their age! The lighting in here is difficult to take photos. Photos as of May 2018
Kyle D — Google review
Great views of St Émilion and the surrounding area from the top of the tower. Not very well advertised, but if you go to the tourist information office and tell them you would like to go up, they will charge you €2, ask for some id they can keep hold of whilst you visit, and they will give you a key to get into the tower. Outs about 170+ spiral steps to the tip and then you'll see that you've just spent the best €2 that day!

Am impressive church both inside and out. The inside is majestic and the outside has great views over the town. Would highly recommend visiting.
Vanessa McCormack — Google review
St.Emillion a great visit more wine shops than you can imagine. Restaurants a bit pricey and parking a premium, but well worth a visit if you are in this area of the dordogne.
The Monolithic Church of Saint-Emilion is a remarkable underground place of worship constructed from limestone during the 12th century. The church features a 68-meter bell tower that offers an amazing panoramic view of the city with 365 degrees visibility. It is worth noting that most of the tombs and catacombs inside are privately owned, which is somewhat unusual for such historical landmarks not to be publicly held. Unfortunately, photography is prohibited on-site.
What a fabulous place to view Saint Émilion from. At the top of the tower you can see 365° around the city. I visited in December so there weren’t many tourists around. Directly across from the tower you can sign out the key which allows entry into the tower and climb for a spectacular view. Highly recommend.

Beautiful church and when we were there a market was running just outside on the grounds. Plenty of people wandering and enjoying what was on offer. The cathedral itself is worth a visit, as it was quite stunning inside. The market had everything from bread and cheese to oysters and beer. The market is just down and around a hallway, so not very spacious, but a great experience.

A very interesting tour with a great guide at a sensible price. This is not only an intriguing tour but it continues to be available out of the main season so a great activity to book in case it’s raining or indeed too hot! As it happened the weather on the day was perfect, and an allowed us an out of season uncrowded walk around a still very lively and beautiful Saint Emilion and an outside drink in the square by the church. A big success for my group of 6 friends.
Clare Stickings — Google review
Impressive toombs and catacombs!
Had no idea about their existence...Little bit unusual that they are mostly private owned, and not set as a public/city good, and as well.no photos are allowed🤔!?
ivanmrav — Google review
The guided tour of the monolithic church was very good (English tours are available and tickets can be purchased from the tourist office). Unfortunately, pictures are not allowed inside. Abandonment at various points in the past means the interior is a bit baren, but still incredible that it was all carved out of the rock. There are also a few remaining carvings that can be seen decorating the interior. Worth visiting!

A must for any visitor to St. Emillion is to visit this spectacular church which gives you unforgettable view of the town below
Wendy Leung — Google review
Highlight of St Emilion for me. Get a key from the tourist office for 2 EUR. 196 steps up, with great views from the very top. Nobody else was in there at the time.
In comparison, the Bordeaux cathedral's similar bell tower is 6 EUR, but you need an allotted time slot, has more steps, was quite busy, and has more monotonous views across the city centre. But a good view of the cathedral.
Duncan Cumming — Google review
196 steps to the top but the views make up for everything and more. we came here late on a Sunday afternoon and had the whole place to ourselves bar another group of 3 :) stunning! And a great place to kickstart our st emilion maiden trip

We stumbled across the tower in Saint Emilion. It’s a beautiful centerpiece of the town. We were delighted to hear we could go up to the view tower for just €2 pp.
It is accessed through a small door which can be opened with a key that you will receive from the tourist office located in the middle of the town beside the structure. They hold onto a form of ID in return for the key and you will receive it back once the key is returned.
The photos speak for themselves! If you’re visiting Saint Emilion, definitely check it out.
Kelly Evans — Google review
Very interesting place when done as part of a tour to understand the history and politics of the region and era.
Lots of steps and uneven floors however so consider this if you have any mobility issues whatsoever.
No photos or videos are allowed in the monuments, so be sure to take your time and take picture in your head to take away!
Paul Swarbrick — Google review
At the heart of the city, the monolithic church reminds the religious activity of the city in the Middle Ages and intrigues by its unusual design. If it shows itself in the eyes of the visitor by the position of a 68-meter-high bell tower - take you time, climb it till the top and take some pictures
Giovanni Negri — Google review
The church is impressive, as it is fully carved out in the rock. However, there is very left of the original decorations as it was desacralised after the French Revolution and has remained in private hands ever since. The church can only be visited in a guided tour that includes the Trinity Chapel, Saint Emilion’s grotto and the Catacombs. The tour is informative but I felt it was a bit too long (1h). Also, notice that pictures are not allowed inside of the monuments.

AMAZING CHURCH INSIDE, GREAT VIEWS OUTSIDE Stunning centerpiece of the town of Saint Emilion, it's the landmark that you'll remember. The church inside is beautiful and on a sunny day, the sun streams in through the stained glass windows.
Beautiful to look at on the inside, it also has some amazing medieval cloisters that you can walk around. The views and pictures that you'll get from it are amazing and there's a lookout point just outside that you will be able to see the whole town from.
You can really feel what life is really like in the middle of the French countryside from here. Really amazing experience if you come here.
The liquor store Les Cordeliers offers a wide variety of wines including local sparkling wine Crémant de Bordeaux. The quaint garden setting is perfect for relaxing while enjoying your drink. Inside the walls of Saint-Émilion, Les Cordeliers has been producing sparkling wine for over 100 years.
Very good friendly staff here. After doing so many free tastings in Saint-Émilion, this place I find it most generous.
Here, it's famous for their sparkling wines (not champagne but close enough).
Fridge magnets start at €3 with many selections.
Tours in English starts at 11am and 2pm. It's €12.50 each. It's about 3km so it's huge.

We spent a couple hours at Les Cordeliers and loved it. It was fun to visit the cloister, see the restoration and hear the story of the Franciscan Monks who occupied the site in the 1300's to 1789. We had a great time on our 1 1/2 hr walking tour including the wine caves - and then a 'Cremant de Bordeaux' sparkling wine tasting. English speaking guides! They also do the tour on a tuk tuk if you don't want to walk, but really not a lot of walking. Might bring a sweater for the cave walk. You can buy picnic items after your tour (or without a tour) - baguettes, sausage, terrines, spreads etc. and eat at the tables in the beautiful garden.

Domain Huso - Caviar Neuvic is a surprising gem in the heart of Dordogne, known for its caviar production since the 1980s. The sturgeon farm, established by Laurent Deverlanges in 2011 at the confluence of the Isle and Vern rivers, offers an abundant selection of caviar and fish roe. Visitors can enjoy a delightful tasting experience with informative explanations in both English and French.

We had the most amazing experience at caviar neuvic. We loved fishing for sturgeon and even though we had never had caviar before the tasting was amazing. We found the tour very informative and their products are so creative and delicious like the caviar butter and rilettes. I loved feeding the goats and the price was very reasonable at 19 euros. Fir that price we got to have a full tour with just two of us since we needed an English your, we got to try fishing for sturgeon, feeding goats, tasting of sturgeon rillette, caviar butter and a spoon of caviar each as well as a glass of sparkling wine! It was the highlight of our trip and s great way to spend a few hours :) highly recommend to anyone!

Abundant choice of Caviar and fish roe selection from Neuvic being located in the heart of the gourmand Dordogne. Here you find the most beautiful grains chosen for their rarity and their incredible long finish. Caviar is native to the Caspian Sea but is elaborated with all the know-how and quality commitment of Caviar de Neuvic. We also love their Sturgeon rillettes with caviar but also the caviar butter which our kids love to spread on the top of an omelette or/and blinis.

Moulin de la Veyssière is a charming ancient nut oil mill in Dordogne, dating back to 1637. Visitors can experience the 16th-century technology still in operation and take guided tours in English or French to learn about the mill's history and oil production process. The tour is free, and guests have the opportunity to sample the oils before visiting the gift shop for homemade oils and candies.
This place is lovely and the great great grand daughter of the owner gave us a fantastic tour in English as our French is so bad. Périgueux Cathedral, also known as Cathedrale Saint-Front de Perigueux, is a stunning architectural gem dating back to the 12th century. Its Greek cross shape and bell tower with white domes make it a remarkable sight in the heart of Périgueux. The cathedral's design is a blend of Romanesque and Byzantine styles, featuring five domes inspired by St. Mark's Basilica in Venice.
Mind blowing architecture.
Way older than anything Canadian
Since we are 156 years young...
Hard to compare a 500 years old to a 200 lol
Dominic Vallee — Google review
Not exquisit but, remarkable nonetheless. An active Catholic Church which is a little unusual in rural France these days. I liked the domes.
Tony Woolman — Google review
Beautifully and interesting architectural for this cathedral. I love the structure and the look of the cathedral outside more than inside. Amazingly calculated designed. These buildings are located in the centre of Périgueux and Saint Front Cathedral has been classed as a French Historical Monument (monument historique) since 1840. The sight is impressive upon arriving into town. Definitely worth a visit when you are in Périgueux.
Hanh Nguyen — Google review
Beautiful building which is the focal point for much of the city. They did have English information pamphlets but they were quite short. If you want to know more I would recommend using Google Lens to translate the French signs as they are much more informative. One last thing to mention is that the wooden sculpture can be illuminated by putting in some money at the side. This took us 20 minutes to realise.

Cathédrale Saint-Front de Périgueux is a beautiful cathedral with a rich history and stunning architecture ¹ ². Located in the heart of Périgueux, it features a mix of Romanesque and Byzantine styles, with five domes and a layout inspired by St. Mark's Basilica in Venice ¹ ². The cathedral has been beautifully restored after suffering damage throughout the centuries and is now a must-visit attraction in the region ¹ ². Visitors can admire its intricate stone carvings, stunning stained glass windows, and imposing structure ¹ ². A true masterpiece of medieval architecture! ¹ ²

The dominant church in the city ( and region?). Impressive exterior but the interior is similar to so many regional churches/ cathedrals - only more because of the extra domes and areas inside. I thought much more impressive outside then walking inside. It's the landmark of Periguex so it's a "must see"..
Vincent Oliver — Google review
Cathédrales are Always worth a stop! ,No matter one's faith, it is the history and the human achievements made without today's tool that not only give you to wonder the faith the courage the talents of the workers long time gone but still present to show their work

Excellent architecture from the outside, stunning interior. Ornate hand carvings inside that can be lit up. Lots to see and a cool respite as well as free entry. Wonderful!

A truly stunning cathedral, unesco world heritage status and well deserved, a very interesting and worthwhile pms e to visit in wonderful Perigueux. Do the walking tour as well , free, which takes you through the medieval old town with wonderful architecture.
VESUNNA, Gallo-Roman Museum offers a contemporary setting for locally excavated archaeological finds related to ancient Roman life. Visitors can play archaeologists by gazing through a glass panel into the excavated remains of a first-century residence below ground. The museum covers the Gallo-Roman period and features visible and well-explained excavations of a Roman town house. It also includes an interesting exhibition about Agatha Christie.
Very much worth your while.
Beautifully constructed museum around an old noble house which has partially been uncouvered from the deep soil it had been resting in for a few centuries (in the form of a municipal garden). Very detailed audio guided tour with lots of information. The best preserved pre-modern age water pump in Europe is also found here.
Koen Dinneweth — Google review
I found this a very average museum in a very nice building but all explainers are in French, no English only some books in the book shop. So as a non French speaker it’s hard to get all out of the experience
patheesen — Google review
Very well organised museum. Free multilingual audio guides are offered to visitors. Our visit was very informative and enjoyable and the staff were very friendly.

We stopped here originally to kill time before checking into our B&B and boy are we glad we did. This is a wonderful museum! It is full of artifacts, and really provides a window into how the Romans lived in this area of France. It has to been seen to really be appreciated. You will not be disappointed if you visit!
Chris Chaisson — Google review
Really good audio guide in English for no extra cost. They had a great Agatha Christie exhibition on. The ruins are interesting and the screens very visual
Mrs Wright — Google review
Can't believe this is only €6! Excellent covered roman excavation (we should do this in the UK to make our roman sites all year round places to visit). So many artefacts on display and the view of the site from the gallery is great. Don't forget to look at the ceiling....
Also a really interesting exhibition about Agatha Christie. Learnt lots about her that I didn't know!
Visit the tower next to this site too.
Paul Hetherington — Google review
An excellent museum covering the Gallo-Roman period on the site of a Roman town house, the excavation of which is both visible and well explained. It is worth watching the short video of the changes to the house between the first and third centuries, set alongside and in the context of the discoveries during the archeological digs, to understand better what one sees. Highly recommended!
Phillip Spencer — Google review
A well provisioned, interpreted and preserved Roman villa with many fascinating objects of art and utility preserved. On the grounds are the ruins of an enormous temple to the local deity. To think people built such huge towers two thousand years ago is impressive.
Alex Wall — Google review
We really enjoyed our visit to this museum, built around the archaeological ruins of a roman settlement. I recommend a visit, especially if stuck under the rain, as we were that afternoon in Périgueux.

Lovely small private gardens in a historic old house ( not open to public) with many levels and small alcoves. Small cafe is excellent with great ice creams. A great place to while away a few hours.

Not the largest garden I agree but a lovely place to sit and relax. The pictures of how it was to how it is now are amazing. The place is just so peaceful and they serve great homemade ice cream and a welcome cuppa. The staff are knowledgeable and speak good English. Their own wine tastes superb. Go there for 7 euros entrance its a bargain

An idyllic place. Teeming with life and kept in a way that skillfully hides the work of the gardeners to allow a vast outpouring of life.

Beautiful garden, €7 entry. The staff are super helpful, speak English and go above and beyond with local knowledge. The garden itself is not huge, but a delight to walk around. There are an abundance of frogs, birds, and we saw a snake in one of the ponds too. Had a coffee to start (excellent coffee, but this is France so that goes without saying), and tasted some wine after. The wine is from the garden, the vines in the surrounding fields. It taste great, €6 for rose and €9 for red. Very reasonable bottle price for wine of such low production. Ultimately, the whole experience of this place is worth it if you're nearby exploring this amazing region of France. Enjoy.

These may not be the biggest or most extravagant gardens but there is a real sense of peace and relaxation here. We sat and watched the carp in the pool and the fountains for a good while and had the place to ourselves for the greater part of our visit
Tea on the terrace completed a very relaxing afternoon.

A beautiful garden. A hidden gem. Melika the receptionist, was most welcoming, well informed and an excellent guide. She went out of her way to find the names of plants unfamiliar to her. Well worth a visit.
Wine tasting made a very enjoyable end to the visit.

Beautiful. Just beautiful. Super friendly staff. Recommend taking a couple of hours to wander the gardens. They're a tad rustic, but that just adds to the serenity.
Absolutely brilliant! Open weekends during October. Took two boys aged 6 and 8 years and it was the perfect level of adventure for them both. Really well thought out.

Cannot fault this place. We had lunch at their restaurant before we went on the ropes. Burgers were brilliant. The staff spoke perfect English and were all extremely polite and welcoming.
The courses are split into different sections. Green being easy, then increasing the difficulty blue, red, black. We were given a demonstration on how the safety equipment works and then tried it for ourselves on a little course before we were allowed to go out on our own.
We weren't given a time limit but after a few hours you have more than had enough as it is tiring especially the more difficult courses. There is guides around so if you get stuck they will come and help you.
Overall a really fun day out. Even though it was 40 degrees it was bareable as we were under complete shade. 10/10 would come again.

If you're looking for a fantastic day out for all the family then this is it. We visited whilst on holiday with friends (including children aged 7, 9 and 11).
There are lots of different courses to do - from children's ones, family ones and then courses that get progressively harder. Whether you have done a lot of high rope courses or this is your first one, you'll have fun. As the courses get harder depending on the colour, you can really challenge yourself if you'd like to or stick to something that's more in your comfort zone. It really does suit everyone. There is also a huge zip wire for aged 10+ ish onwards (it's depending on height) which was brilliant. We stayed all day and had lunch (delicious) and ice creams later on. The guides are very friendly and were happy to help everyone. They also speak excellent English if your French isn't fluent!
We will definitely go back if we're in the area again as, although we stayed all day, there were some courses that we didn't manage to do. A bonus of the variety/number of courses is that you don't have to queue and the courses aren't busy as you go round.

Had a great experience here! The staff is super nice and the climbing trails are a good level. There are many difficulties to choose from, so it's fun for all ages and levels. Really recommend to buy the gloves (only 2 euros). They really prevent blisters and you can climb longer without getting sore hands.

Bergerac is a small beautiful town ...
2️⃣7️⃣ thousand people only ...
Named after the eponymous hero of the play by Edmond Rostand and a real person from the 17th century - Cyrano de Bergerac
🏰 Very old, with interesting historical landmarks ...
🌿 Cozy and quiet, but not in the active season in summer, when the center is filled with colorful
🍽️ With plenty of restaurants with exceptional cuisine 😋
🍷 Of course with great Bordeaux style wine in every restaurant
🌳 With many dignified sycamore trees
💙 Located on the banks of its eternal, constantly moving satellite - the Dordogne River
💯 Recommended and if possible with accommodation in a guest house
ℹ️ You can safely not book breakfast, because in the boulangeries in the center there are very tasty, fresh and warm croissants every morning, and all sorts of other things.

Château de Monbazillac is a 16th-century Renaissance chateau located in Bergerac, France. The castle features period furniture and a wine cellar where visitors can enjoy wine tastings and purchase wines. The chateau blends medieval fortifications with Renaissance characteristics and offers tours of its renovated interior and landscaped gardens.
Picturesque would be one way to describe this peaceful hillside Chateau & Vineyard.
Dan Miller — Google review
Stunning Chateau beautifully maintained and amazing views in the direction of Bergerac. Lots of history to read inside, but a lot of the rooms bare (some strange art) and not very much to engage younger children (make your own wine label, but only 1 screen worked)
The museum was very interesting in how it was laid out and taking you through the process of wine making.
The wine tasting was good, given in French and English for the various visitors, the wines themselves ok, nothing we wanted to personally buy.
You can eat there but they were 'full' apparently so we couldn't but found a very nice restaurant 2 min walk away (Le Semillon)

Very interesting exposition obout wine production. Castle really beautifull from outside, located on top of hill with great views on wineyards. Inside family history and some expositions, quite spartan. Several times per day progamm of different venues. Degustation of wines, as well as nice shop of own and regional wines, local specialities. Staff very kind, all spoke also English.

Excellent information centre with lots of details on Monbazillac and wine making in general. Very well put together. Just the speaker "bubbles" in French and English interfere with each other a bit. About 2 hours needed minimum to take advantage of everything. Nice shop with 1 tasting wine included in entry fee of €10.

Lovely Chateau situated atop a modest hill. Great to take a scenic short walk (we had our small dog with us). Plus during May to September there is a restaurant/ bar with an outdoor terrace serving a well priced, tasty weekday lunch offer (19 to 22 euros).
Château de Bridoire is a historic castle that was rebuilt after being destroyed in the Wars of Religion. The chateau was purchased by Emperor Bokassa in 1987 and left in a state of dereliction until it was restored to its former glory. Visitors to Château de Bridoire can enjoy vintage indoor and outdoor games, as well as explore a natural labyrinth. For those seeking a thrill, haunted house evenings are also available.
Animals, park entertainment and lovely castle , I really enjoyed

Great castle with old fashioned games in the gardens. The perfect way to spend an afternoon with the kids.
patheesen — Google review
After we did the escape game in the Château de Marsac we decided to visit Bridoire although it was a bit further away for us, but we were not disappointed! Great way to visit a castle, loved the huge amount of olden time games especially with our 2 kids (both 6). You can easily spend a whole afternoon here or even a whole day. As most of the games are outside and only a small part of the visit is inside the castle it's covid-19 proof. Possibility to picknick inside the grounds of the castle or buy sandwiches/salads etc on site. All in all a great day and definitely worth the trip. Just try not to go there when it's to hot as a big part of the games are not shaded by trees.

A château worth visiting. It has a pretty nice story of how it was neglected and vandalized and eventually rising back to its magnificence.they created différent games outside the château where visitons can relax or amuse themselves. Good for familiies with Kids.

It was a special evening! We started at around 7:30 pm, we played at the nice wooden games outside and by 8 pm we took some apéro, cold cuts and cheese which the baked Camembert was super good by the way. We were entertained by the local dance and music, very original! Then at around 9 pm we visited the castle in candlelight which was a very unique experience for us! It gives a different angle from the usual castle visits which is ordinary. We love the effort and passion they put in this place, you can feel it from the wooden toys and the decorations around. There was a horse show as well, the horses were beautiful and made us appreciate how wonderful these creatures are! We highly recommend this visit!!

Our celebratory birthday weekend with Duck & Truffle was a huge success from the initial planning until the very end. They were most flexible and accommodating with all of our requests and nothing was too much trouble. Our accommodation was beautiful. Max was our marvelous host. We never felt rushed or as though we were working to any kind of schedule. We tasted wine and learned all about it, we ate at very good restaurants, we saw many sights and this all while were were driven through the beautiful Dordogne area.
