Akdamar Island
Island
Nature & Parks
Home to a historic church & many bird species, this 3-km. long island is the largest in Lake Van.
One of the most well maintained antique church I’ve seen. The trip os beautiful as you take a boat and enjoy the view. Nice cafe and souvenir store on the island.
To get there is tricky. You must drive to the port with enough time since they need at least 12 people per boat. We went at 15:00 and departed at 16:40 which in this case it was the last ferry. So don’t be confident you’ll make it in low season, give yourself enough time.
Oz MP — Google review
Wonderful island, amazing history, peaceful during the week. The dance party boat is terrible. Island entry price of 290pp is way too steep, (especially when it should include an audio guide which they only have in Turkish.) That's the normal entry price for adults, BTW, not just foreigners. Saw plenty of locals paying that. Still...absolutely worth the half day trip. Take swimming gear, picnic go early, and take an afternoon boat back. Magic.
LaurasTravelTales — Google review
Amazing view, the mountain scenery is insane.
Yasin Eren Cakmak — Google review
It is a beautiful island! Not big but the view is amazing. You can see the lake and mountains at the same time. There is two different port you can take a boat to Island. and Island has as well. It takes around 40min or 1 hour-ish. Depends on from which port you take a boat.
SoYa TR — Google review
Beautiful island with a beautiful architecture of the church. You can take ferries for 25TL (2021 prices, forth and back total price). You gotta be careful in off season as the ferry waits for at least 10 people to load, or expect to pay more. I had to rent it all alone as there was nobody in December. Make sure you buy a museum card at the entrance as it is cheaper that way. U can use the ticket for the Van castle and Van museum, too.

12 EUR entrance fee is a bit too much for this place. I did not pay because I think it isn't that worth.

Just amazing....
Really one of the perfect and impressive places that I ever been, I would give more stars than 5......
P.S. April is the best time to go there, where trees all the way are flowing.....
Dav Ghazaryan — Google review
A great place to visit but the Museum fee to enter does not warrant the appalling amount of litter and disgusting state of the toilets, which the museum staff seem to willing use without complaint.
My first picture shows an empty rubbish bin with litter by the path
Imagine how clean you would like to be before you pray and translate this to the level of cleanliness that is required. Whatever the situation respect for the country and environment is your responsibility
Philip Bunce — Google review
Not easy to get to by public transport (take a dolmus to Gevas from the main state road), and way too touristic. The grounds are littered with trash and the view is not nearly as nice in autumn as in spring.
The Akdamar Kilisesi, a remarkable medieval cathedral situated on an island in Lake Van, is a stunning example of Armenian architecture. Constructed by King Gagik Artzruni in 921, the church boasts intricate carvings depicting biblical scenes that are considered some of the finest works of Armenian art. Although little remains of the palace and monastery built alongside it, the church walls remain in excellent condition.
It is so a beautiful church on the Akdamar island. I was amazed by the outside of the walls.👍🏼You can see the church inside as free. Not a big church but the frescoes on the wall in the main service room is so beautiful. On the Outside of the wall, there are different Bible stories a relief carving which is amazed me!
SoYa TR — Google review
Extraordinary island, extraordinary church. Very beautiful on the outside but very destroyed on the inside. It was a bit disappointing to see the inside like that, but just going to the island is very exciting. You should definitely go.
adnan akif kalyoncu — Google review
A stunning location. Ok, it is not a secret and everyone knows it, but a must to visit. Very popular, but you can find quiet places on the island
Alex Kavell — Google review
The church was built around 10th century and famous for its unique carvings of historical figures and events narrated in Bible. Each side of the church consists carvings of the authors of the four Gospel, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
You can visit the church by ferry from Gevas which is around 40 km to Van city center. The round ticket is 25 TL.
Ahmet ?hsan Kaya — Google review
I liked everything except the dirty toilets, otherwise; I would give 5 stars. Some people say that you pay extra money when you get to the island but its not extra money, if you have a museum card, you dont pay any money. The card is cheap and valid for a year. The island is worth seeing.
Nida Fidanboy — Google review
This is another breathtaking place. If it is winter with lots of snow and below -20 kind of arctic cold then make sure there is a boat waiting for you otherwise you have to wait until they have enough passenger to justify the ride in that weather (no blame ). But it is worth every minute of your struggle so no matter the roadblocks, do whatever you can and go there. Locals say spring time is another story to visit the place with all the surrounding almond trees in bloom so i guess we will have to come back and gladly so 😉

Be sure to go on a pleasure boat and spend some time there
Full of wild and beautiful rabbits and turtles
Very good weather

Try to avoid coming here in the middle of the summer if it is possible, but otherwise this island is a great experience. There are walking trails to take in the beauty of the island and lake Van, and the jewel is the 1000 year old Armenian church. There is also a gift shop and tea house on the island, perfect for resting.
Nicholas Urman — Google review
A bit underwhelming to be honest. As a foreigner it costs 290TL but the island and church is less impressive than other similarly priced attractions. There is also the additional cost of the boat to get there (which admittedly provides excellent views of the lake). The church is beautiful and the art was very interesting but it's quite small. The island itself is nice but there was rubbish everywhere and most of the island is fenced off so you can only access a small part. Toilets were free but smelled awful.
Hamish Riley — Google review
Brilliant experience.
A historic building on a beautiful island which you reach by ferryboat.
There is a small café on the island.
Also you are able to see some grey rabbits.

Saline lake, the largest body of water in Turkey, with views of castle ruins & adjacent mountains.
It is a saline lake that receives water from many small streams that flow from the surrounding mountains. It is one of the few endorheic lakes in the world (a lake with no outlet) with an area of more than 3,000 square kilometers (1,200 square miles) and contains 38% of the country's surface water

Sunken cities are typically the stuff of legend, but at the end of last year archaeologists found the real thing hiding deep within Lake Van in Turkey.
After a decade of searching the Middle East's second largest lake, the home of a lost kingdom has been found hundreds of metres beneath the surface.
Hilltop monastery dating from the 5th century & featuring ancient mosaics, domes & cloisters.
A must see historical site if you are in the region. It was a very humbling experience seeing and learning about the way of life that lasted for several millennia in this monestary.

The Monastery of Mor Gabriel holds a significant place in history, as it was constructed in the year 397 A.D. This ancient religious site is an important spiritual center for the Syriac Orthodox Church and is considered one of the oldest surviving Syriac Orthodox monasteries in the world.

It is the first place you should visit when you are in Midyat. It's an operating manastır since 6th century by Suryanies hence Muze card is not valid there. Entry fee was 100 Turkish Lira per person when I was there. A guide telling the story of the manastry is what you get by this payment. It really worths.

Great ancient city to visit, short ride from Mardin. The complex is divided into 4 different sites. Loved the two cisterns.
Lucas Muller — Google review
Awesome place to visit. If in the Mardin area this is a must see. My wife and I spent about 3 hours vising all the sites in Dara (2 cisterns, ancient city, tombs). Day we visited some kids were chasing a mentally challenged adult and throwing rocks at him. The town itself is very dirty and its kind of depressing to see people literally living in structures (using structures loosely) built on top of one of the 2,000 year old cisterns. With all this said still worth visiting. Going between the sites I would suggest driving versus walking.
EveryDayGlory ! — Google review
One of the most amazing sites of southern Turkey. Dara was one of the most important cities of the later Romano-Persian wars and was the site of the only located battle. Much of the city is still there, including a full stretch of wall, a quarry, the agora, and the necropolis. Most impressive by far are the various water features. Atop the acropolis is a castellum aquae for handling water brought in via aqueduct and there are two giant and intact cisterns that you can descend into. Well worth seeing if you have the time!
Stuart McCunn — Google review
Dara is a recent archeological discovery. And although comparisons with Ephesus are a little exaggerated (Ephesus is truly one of a kind) it is worth the journey down from Mardin to the site

One of the magnificent ruins I have ever visited. Free entrance and not so crowded. Highly recommended if you like historical sites.
Jane Lim — Google review
Unbelievable place. One of the best Roman ruins that I saw during my travels around the world. This place is huge and consists of many objects, including massive water cisterns, bridges, agora, roads, walls, houses and other ancient Roman structures. I feel like this place deserves much more attention that it has now. History buffs can easily spend a whole day exploring it. And even for regular tourists it's worth to spend at least 3-4 hours in this area.
Jans Glagolevs — Google review
Called the "Ephesus of Mesopotamia" the ruins of the ancient Dara are only 30 km from the center of Mardin city. Until 2008, they were completely underground, virtually arousing no interest. Due to the aforementioned proximity to the border with Syria, as well as remoteness from the west coast of Türkiye, no local excursion programs took this area into account. In the old days, Dara was one of the most important settlements on the Silk Road. In antiquity, it was an important fortress in northern Mesopotamia, on the border with the Sassanid Empire. In the 6th century, the largest Byzantine field army in the south was stationed in Dara, and the city itself was a complex complex of civilian buildings, baths, water reservoirs and public places.

Definitely must see ancient town!
Dara, an important East Roman fortress city dating back year of 530. Ancient city is huge and modern town of Dara is now situated on the ruins which are clearly seen. People continue living in ancient city, we can say. Grave area is well kept and welcomes you as a first stop. Necropol, dungeon, and a King Seat is a bit away, in village centre. Anyone visiting Mardin shouldn’t miss this forgettable experience.
Suha Guvenc — Google review
This place is so beautiful but it is totally neglected. There is not any service ( just a small cafe at the entrance) around this area like it is abandoned or something. Carelessness makes this place underappreciated. There was trash everywhere even in the cistern. People are so insensitive about this. It was so upsetting to see historical places in this position. Government should take responsibility about this unique place but there is nothing. Even discovery of this place is not completed yet. There is a huge area to be discovered. I hope someday it will get the real value it deserves in the right hands.

1500 year old. Full of history and still in use for worshipping so quite unique place. There is 1500 year old pagan worship place. So amazing that they put about 20 stones each 1.5 tons on the roof without any adhesive. I was stocked that how they did it. They used 45 degrees 📐 angled stones. That was on 500 AD. Amazing.

I am so happy that this monastery is not ignored and being cared by its community very well. The monastery is very serene and beautiful, there is an entrance fee and you are being briefly informed by Syriac guys about its history. Many parts are closed for visitors and I guess it is because of its current use, it is still being used as a worship centre. The garden is well designed and the location is about half an hour from Mardin city centre. It is certainly worth seeing.

Because they couldn't find an excuse, they said, 'We've been looking for you since morning, we couldn't reach you. In fact, is your name Merve?' They said. I called at this time and said that my name is Nuray and I spoke to this person. Then he found a manuscript with my name on it. They kept saying, 'We couldn't reach them by calling'. We left without delay. We even had a hard time finding another hotel because it was very crowded during the holiday. Anyways. In short, a place with two-faced, lying employees.

The cleanliness was far above my expectations from this hotel, they provided me with home cleanliness and hygiene in the room. All I can say is good luck. I will choose this hotel again because of its cleanliness and because it is in the center of the city. Mr. Mehmet and other employees do their job well, are disciplined and friendly, and it is also admirable. .

Absolutely beautiful place to be during sunset. The history, lighting and peace that this site is at is just one of its kind. The oldest ceremonial site known to man! There’s a shuttle from the visitor area to the temples, definitely recommend walking as it’s a very beautiful walk. If you come to see history, this is the place to be.

I have had the chance to visit this beautiful place with a company tour. This place has many mysteries, unknowns, beautiful artwork and structure. A place in the middle of nowhere, on a hill that has changed the flow of the known history and archaeology.
Please WALK back to the center and enjoy the view. I tried to add as much as I could with my 5yr old phone.
The wind, the sun, the silence, the peace is amazing. I hope to visit this place again, when the new sites are ready to display.
The animal figures carved on the pillars are amazing; pay very good attention to the hidden details.

The view alone is worth the visit. The drive to the location is well sign posted and takes you through some nice locations. The site itself is well maintained and nicely laid out. Tickets cost 45 lira i believe and headsets cost an extra 30 lira. It's worth getting a headset to get the full experience. There's a nice museum before you head over to the dig site. A bus takes you to and from the dig site. There's a cafe and gift shop too. Best to use the toilets within the main building.

The drive to the site from Gaziantep was easy and enjoyable, with well-maintained roads and picturesque views of green and yellow flower fields along the way. Upon arrival at the museum, I rented an audio guide and listened to the informative introductory audio about the ice age. I then opted to walk the approximately 1 km up to the site, although there are also frequent shuttles available for those who prefer it. This destination is truly a must-see, boasting some of the most astonishing archaeological discoveries of our time. With ongoing excavations expected to cover an area equivalent to 17 football fields, the site promises endless fascination and exploration.

This is one of the most significant archaeological sites in the world, dating back to 12,000 years ago when man were still palaeolithic. The site dates back to pre-pottery and late pottery periods and had been hypothesized to be a critical location that led to the agricultural revolution. It is quite small but we'll laid out and you are able to walk around the site in a circle. Absolutely stunning and a must visit. I don't advise getting the audio guide.

Göbeklitepe has contributed a great deal to our understanding of hunter-gatherer life, animal husbandry, agriculture and livestock migration, sacred architecture and the birth of art. It was abandoned after it continued to be present around 8000 B.C and it was not used for other or similar purposes.
THE OLDEST RELIGIOUS SITE IN THE WORLD
The most interesting findings at Göbeklitepe are the t-shaped monolithic pillars which can reach 6 meters in length and 40 tons in weight. Even though six of these pillars were excavated, geomagnetic measurements found there are round 20 pillars in total. These mysterious pillars were lined in a circular plan with stone walls in between. The pillars make up a round or oval enclosed space surrounding a pair of big pillars in the center of the structure.
Most of the pillars have human, animal or abstract symbols. In addition to these oldest reliefs carved into the stone, three-dimensional animal reliefs are also found. The pillars with hand, arm and finger motifs on its body is interpreted as human statues. From the welcome area the excavation site is reached in one minute by shuttles. The animation and information in the entrance are the kind that can't be missed. The excavation area, which is divided into A, B, C and D, is surrounded by a walking excursion route and its top is closed.

Gobekli Tepe
A 12000 year old structure has been excavated in Turkey close to the Syrian border in Sanliurfa region. The period of the structure falls in the Pre-pottery Neolithic era, about 10000 BCE, when the hunter-gatherers had started settling down probably in the beginning of the agricultural age. The structure was supported on huge ‘T’ shaped stone pillars. Some say that it was a temple orientated to the constellation of Orion. There are figures of birds and animals carved on the pillars. There are distinctly recognizable figures of fox, boar, sheep, duck, vulture, a lizard like reptile, and a tiger like predator.
The excavation so far has been marked in six segments from A to F. A B C & D segments are under the big roof while E & F are outside the big stadium like roof. The efforts at conservation of the excavated area are remarkable.
There’s a museum in Sanliurfa where the excavated artifacts are displayed. In one section the T-shaped pillars are arranged and covered with a ceiling in a prototype of the temple. The best attraction in the Urfa museum is the URFA MAN.

I am most impressed by the unity of man and nature depicted as proto-zoomorphic gods, whose attributes are attached to the human-shaped monoliths. These were times when man was one with the macrocosmos - before organised religion, before states and empires corrupted man with power.

Göbeklitepe is a journey back to the very dawn of civilization, an archaeological wonder that challenges our understanding of human history. This UNESCO World Heritage Site, approximately 12,000 years old, predates even the Egyptian pyramids and Stonehenge. Its massive, T-shaped pillars, beautifully engraved with reliefs of animals and abstract symbols, evoke awe and curiosity.
The visitor center provides a comprehensive introduction with a replica of Göbeklitepe, introductory films, and various souvenirs. Although some visitors have noted the site could benefit from more detailed information about the steles and the society that built them, the sheer antiquity and mystery of Göbeklitepe compensate for this.
Göbeklitepe is easily accessible from Sanliurfa, and it's recommended to visit between April and October for the most pleasant weather. Comfortable clothing is advised due to the region's warm climate. Whether you're an archaeology enthusiast or just curious about ancient civilizations, Göbeklitepe offers a unique glimpse into a forgotten era of human history. Its significance lies in its status as possibly the world's oldest temple, a testament to the ingenuity of our hunter-gatherer ancestors
Orzujon Ahrorov — Google review
This place has impacted me lot. Some people there said it is only stone, nothing to see but for me it is impressive. Knowing that this place is 12 thousand years old and people were still hunters during that time, it is not clear how they architected and built this temple. I even thought extraterrestrial beings helped humanity to build this site. Because agriculture started after this time. I still don’t understand how hunters built something beautiful like this site 12 thousand years ago because building large temples requires coordination, society and money. It is the oldest known temple and human settlement. It changed human knowledge on our evolution. Definitely must see.

Mount Nemrut is a well-known mountain peak that boasts an array of stone sculptures near an ancient royal tomb. These impressive statues can be found on two terraces flanking Antiochus' enormous gravel-covered burial mound. Despite suffering damage from earthquakes, the colossal bodies and 2m-high heads of the sculptures remain awe-inspiring, with the Eastern Terrace's thrones and bodies better preserved than those on the Western Terrace.
It is an awesome historical place! You can come up with a car and hiking for 20min. It has stairs and is a tidy road. So easy to hike up. Recommend to come at sunset time! So beautiful. Don’t forget to bring warm clothes! If you bring hot tea or coffee with you, makes it much nicer to watch the sunset.

Amazing place. A mountain, 2150 metres above the sea level. The tomb of the king Antioch. There are statues of different mythological persons. You will be taken by the tour to the foot of the mountain and then you will have to climb up a bit. It is the great place to see the sunset though you are highly recommended to take warmer clothes and also maybe a bottle of wine to enjoy p. Also people get up at around 4:30 a.m to meet the sun in the morning and again it might ne windy so take a thermos with coffee or tea. This kind of sunrise is definitely different from the one you see at the seaside and it worth watching it!

Really special to be there for sunrise. Check the weather before planning the experience as it can be quite invigorating in the morning. We stayed roughly 45mn-1h there but would have stayed longer if it weren't for the wind.
As recommended by some people, we contacted Ramo (guide and taxi driver) and would strongly recommend to do so : +905368730534 (super helpful, english speaker and available on whatsapp).
He picked us up from Mardin otogarı in the night, drove us all the way to the top (we only needed to walk 5mn to reach the Eastern terrasse), waited for us for as long as we needed and then dropped us back at the otogarı around 8 in the morning. He also arranged for us to hop on a bus to Göreme at 12.

We went here in the evening to watch sunset. The weather wasn't good, it was very cloudy and even started raining as soon as we reached. It was also the eve of national election so there was literally nobody. Ticket costs TRY100 per head. We came here from Malatya, no need to hike to reach the top. Just park your car and walk 5 mins.

Cozmic Gate — Google review
Great view and nice sunset experience. The statues are wild to look at, although smaller than I expected. We came from Malatya and it really does take 2hr, most of the drive is a lot of tight hill climb on decently paved road. It gets narrow in some portions, but nothing scary really. Once you get close to the top, you have to stop at a building and pay for entrance. Note that it's cash only. They say there's no signal for a card reader, although my phone worked fine. The last bit of drive is unpaved and pretty warn. If you have a little wheezy car like we did, you need to keep your momentum, there are some areas to get a running start if you botch it. It's not a vehicle I would have picked for this task, but it made it up. You can also walk, but it's at least 2km of switch backs and you're at 7700m elevation so it will take you a while.

Mount Nemrut - You are beautiful. Went there last year, but the memory still there, ticket if i not wrong cost 50tl. At first you will buy ticket then you have to drive a distance up, then you have to climb the stairs to go up. This beauty is located above 2134 metre high mountain. Of course you can choose to go during early morning to see sunrise or sunset. That time always will be crowded, you also can choose out of this time zone to have less people, so that you can take nice photo too. Last time when i stay at Karadut for 2 days, one day it was snow up there during May, one days it was nice beautiful sunny. Weather it can change too quickly. Please bring jacket, because is too cold during May at Mount Nemrut.

The proof of the existence of the hitites! There are two terraces: east and west. The east terrace is more preserved and can be accessed from the parking lot. Please note you would have to climb approx 150mts but there are stairs till half way. On the other hand the west terrace has the least preserved statues (only heads mostly) and also can be accessed from the parking lot. Climb is around 130mts approx, took me 25 min and there are proper stairs all the way. Please note that is going to be cold an quite windy. Entrance fee is 40 liras.

Genuinely one of the most impressive sites I've ever visited. Make sure to go in the morning or evening so you can see the sunset/sunrise. We went in the morning (5 AM!) as part of a tour organized by the hotel. It was pricey but I was concerned about the mountain roads in my rental car. I probably didn't need to worry: the roads were actually very good and paved all the way to the top. There's a big cafe up there where they serve food and you can buy tickets. Obviously a lot of money went into this major tourist site!
Getting to the site itself was rough. The parking lot is at the bottom of the summit and it's a 1/2-3/4 of a mile climb straight up. It was a cloudy day and the sun was just peaking out. On the climb up I felt like I was on some sort of medieval pilgrimage, rushing to the shrine atop the mountain. I had seen pictures of the place before plus a scale model at Adiyaman the day before, but this is one of those times where pictures really can't do the experience justice. The sense of achievement from reaching the top combined with the fierce wind and the wonder of the light hitting the statues really makes the experience unique. Definitely aim for the morning (that side is the most impressive) and make sure the day is sunny.
The site is basically one big tomb housing King Antiochus of Commagene. Mount Nemrut is the largest mountain around and you can see the summit and tumulus atop for miles around. Around the tumulus, facing the rising and setting sun, are a series of statues representing the late king and various gods. Impressive by any standards, but the location is what really makes the site something not to be missed.

Super unique and inspiring place to visit. The statue heads and ruins do not disappoint and are even more impressive than in the pictures due to their location on top of the mountain.
Getting to the Mount is a very nice drive through valleys and hills and the climb up to the statues is an easy, but long, trek. There is a very good pathway that takes you up and avoids being too steep or having too many steps, so it very well designed.
To get to the mount from the city, I took a last minute tour that was found for me by a travel agent in the city. It was in Turkish so I did not understand what the tour guide was saying most of the time but he was incredibly kind and would speak to me in English as we were walking and fill me in. He told me that he had not spoken English in years and that before he used to do tours all the time in English but due to the political situation in Turkey, the international tourists had stopped coming so he can only do tours in Turkish now.
Learning the history of the region and about the mixing of cultures was very interesting as I was not taught much about this time outside of Ancient Greece proper and Rome.
I flew here on a very cheap domestic ticket from Istanbul by way of Ankara (which I also visited) so it worth a visit if you have an extra few days in Turkey as it is a quick and cheap flight.

I recommend you to visit Mount Nemrut at sunset. Beautiful landscapes, though make sure you have your cardigans, the summit can be very windy and cold after sunset. Also be prepared to take some stairs 🙃

Stunning, despite it really being quite a small site. It's setting high in the mountains is glorious, and it seems most people go to see the sunset. The eastern terrace statuary has been tidied a bit so the heads sit in front of their bodies, and on the western side they're in more disarray. Both look amazing.

The hospitality exhibited by the entire staff, with a special mention to the receptionist Mr. Mostofa, at Balıklıgöl Otel is truly remarkable and leaves a lasting impression. The level of professionalism displayed by Mr. Mostofa is highly commendable. It is worth mentioning that the hotel's location is convenient and the rooms are kept clean to ensure a comfortable stay for guests.

The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed. The photos are misleading. I wouldn’t have stayed here if I had seen the room before I paid. I made a mistake not to book another place beforehand and we had to stay here. Don’t get me wrong I am not a fussy person. I stayed in hostels before. I travelled with my backpack for years. As long as the ad is correct and the place is clean I have no problem but this hotel is not a 3 star hotel and it is not worth 600lira.
The towels were stained and the shower was not clean. Entire floor stank.
The breakfast was not good. The plates were dirty and the butter was left under the sun and melted so I didn’t even try.
If you are too desperate and do not want to stay in your car you can go there and spend the night but no way pay 600lira like I did.
There are lots of hotels in the area and they are pretty good for a little bit more money.

The prophet Abraham is believed to have been born in the cave by this compact site with a minaret.
I recently visited the Mevlid-i Halilulrahman Cave and was deeply moved by the experience. This historic site in Sanliurfa is not just a cultural exuberance but a spiritual treasure, rumored to be the birthplace of Prophet Ibrahim. The cave is well-maintained and illuminated, creating a serene atmosphere that fills you with a sense of peace. Inside, you can see religious books and sajjadas laid out, adding to the spiritual ambiance. The presence of a spring water source inside the cave is a highlight, with visitors often filling their bottles with this water, believed to be healing. What's more, there's a small mosque inside where you can pray, adding to the cave's tranquility. It's a must-visit for anyone seeking a deep cultural and spiritual experience in the heart of Sanliurfa

A site believed to be the hiding place of Abraham
Abraham is the traditional site of the birthplace of Abraham and it is here that he is said to have been hidden from the wicked King Nimrod. It is a place of worship, at the foot of the castle hill. It can be entered through the courtyard of the mosque, and is split into two sections for men and women. There are queues to enter, as it is a very small area and popular with many pilgrims. It doesn’t take too long to see however.

I had a smaller boat and trip lasted as long as I wanted as not yet high season. I took this as was early so groups had not arrived yet for me to join. You can negotiate. Visited Cami Cafe 1 metre on corner of sunken mosque. All in all natural beauty and history exceeded my expectations. A wonderful day. There are also fish and other restaurants there at boarding point of boats. I caught easily from main Sanliurfa otogar the dolmus minibus to and from Halfeti 55 tkl each way.

A bit difficult to get to but totally worth it. I wish swimming was allowed. Even in the middle of October, it was totally swimmable. There is also glass floor viewing area. We went up onto the second floor of the small restaurant, and were rewarded with even better views.

We had a boat trip during the sunset time, it was fascinating. I would definetely come back for a whole tour of this place, as we could only see those places from the boat.
Sibel Dugen — Google review
Rumkale is an old Byzantine fortress with a fantastic history surrounding it. There is great signage to get to it. Once you arrive to the area there are numerous viewing platforms to catch a glimpse of the magnificent fortress. There is a bit of parking by the castle itself but also a large parking lot about a 10 minute walk away.
IMPORTANT: To get to the castle itself, you have to take a short boat ride. We heard that prices were ~15 TL per person but the fortress itself was closed for renovations.
There are some places with limited selections of food, snacks, and souvenirs. They also offer boat tours around the euphrates for ~100 TL per person. You can also take a boat ride to the nearby zeugma archeological site.
The castle is incredibly beautiful and definitely worth a visit!

The Zeugma Mosaics Museum is a contemporary exhibition center that displays an extensive collection of mosaic art and artifacts dating back to ancient Rome. It presents exceptional mosaics excavated at the Roman site of Belkis-Zeugma, which was mostly submerged by the Birecik Dam. The upper level offers extraordinary views of almost intact floor mosaics found in Roman villas, providing detailed insights into past centuries.
It's a fairly big museum to look at with some nice pieces. I would recommend to buy headphones if you are really interested as there is not too much text inside to read. Overall a nice experience and the room with the gypsy Mosaic was a nice experience. If your in town you might aswell take an hour to come look at this.

Our stop at Gaziantep was specifically for a visit to the Zeugma Mosaic Museum. The museum showcases its vast collection, from the detailed mosaics of the 2nd–3rd century to the more primitive designs of the 5th century, highlighting the surprising decline in artistic skill over just two centuries. The early works resemble fine paintings, rich in detail and depth, while later pieces become more pictographic, reflecting a drastic shift.

Beautiful museum with an amazing collection of artifacts. It's definitely worth a visit. The museum its self is clean, informative and nicely laid out. The audio headset are good but they only cover the main building collections.

65 lira entry without audio guide. It's on the other side of the train station, so you'll have to cross the station underground by foot or hitch a taxi from town. Not the nicest area of Gaziantep surrounding the museum. It takes 1 hour minimum, 2+ if you want to take your time a bit. It's not as huge as all that, but the collection is in a large space and there is more than enough to take in in one go. The famous eyes of the 'gypsy girl,' or Alexander's eyes, are in a dark room.

The museum is set in an interesting house not far from the castle. It is well designed and has static displays of the culinary history of the area. Most importantly, write ups are both in Turkish and English.
Take the time to locate this museum the day you visit the castle - if you are interested in food.

Say the name Gaziantep to a Turk, and they'll usually start talking about food. This city is known as one of the country's culinary capitals, so it's no surprise that there's a museum dedicated to its food. The layout and excellent information panels guide you through Gaziantep's most famed dishes, which of course include the sticky, syrupy delights of the town's baklava, but also plenty of savory dishes that have an extra-spicy kick compared to much of Turkish cuisine. You'll most likely walk out of the museum hungry, so study up the information panels while in the museum and then head out with your new knowledge to taste some local flavors for lunch.

The Church of St Pierre is a significant historical site located in Antakya, Turkey. Carved into the side of Mt. Staurin and dating back to 1100 CE, it is one of the world's first cave churches and holds great importance in Christianity. It is believed that St. Pierre held the first religious meeting here to spread Christianity, making it a center of Catholicism and a pilgrimage site for Christians. The church also houses a museum and offers stunning views of the city.
Very old and historical church. Located on the hill so you have to walk to the top. The access if very easy. Actually, the inside is just a cave. I think the attractiveness is the rich-history behind this building.

This place, although is small, should be visited for the historical value that it has. As the first church in the world, and another historical site in a city that dates back to the first civilised city-states of the world. It is better to have the museum card as it gives access to all museums and historical sites of Turkey for 1 year.

The church is a small hall in the mountain. You need to know a bit of history and significance of the place to enjoy the atmosphere, have a look at the city view and tolerate the groups of religious tourists ( not to mention a rather expensive entry fee)
Take your time to go around the church (opposite direction of the main entrance). You shall find an amazing number of tunnels dug in the mountains and the figure carved into the mountain. Unfortunately, the path is not marked and cleaned, but it is definitely part of the amazing history where people had to prepare escape ways to flee religious persecution.

It’s a lovely park with some water fountains and plenty of benches. The location is perfect it’s close to the stone bridge and the mosque. It’s perfect for a picnic or just a hang out.

Good place for walking. There are beautiful views and nice installations.
The Sabanci Merkez Mosque in Adana is a grand structure that was opened in 1998. It boasts an Ottoman-style interior and is covered entirely in luxurious marble and gold leaf. With six minarets and a towering central dome that reaches 54 meters high, it can house up to 28,500 worshippers. This impressive mosque, built by philanthropist Sakip Sabanci, is the largest between Istanbul and Saudi Arabia.
This is one of the greatest and beautiful mosque what I had ever seen! It's the second largest mosque in Turkey. There’re amazing views all around and exciting views inside.

Nice place to visit while in Adana. It is a very nice big mosque with convenient location within central park and near the river. The architecture is amazing and very beautiful on the inside. Highly recommended.

Second largest mosque in Turkey. The architecture is really nice. The entrance is from the park for the people who wonder where the enter is. There is also a big Parking place close to the Mosque if you plan to come with the car. Fridays can be a bit busy. @Selontour

This magnificent building besides being an icon of the city of Adana, is also the first largest mosque in Turkey until 2019. It has 6 minarets with a large garden around it. Really beautiful place.

If you are coming to the Mosque after seeing Taş köprü there is shortcut, an underground passage to the mosque but the passage stinks with urine and filth. You can make a bigger loop and pass through a traffic lights which are a bit far. But if you go through the underground passage the smell is terrible. Looks like an abandoned place. If you can bear the smell you can pass through it fast and reach the beautiful mosque that is worth visiting. I think municipal authorities should pay attention to this.

Beautiful central mosque of Adana. A prominent landmark of beautiful and historical Adana city.

It is one of the most important symbols of Adana, it has a fascinating structure and unique architecture, the Seyhan River flows past me, it is surrounded by the central park, which is a huge natural beauty, and it is one of the distinguished mosques that everyone should come and see.

Mosque located next to the river with sprawling gardens adjacent. Lovely place for a walk.

This was my first visit to Adana. I explored the historical area around the clock tower, however the area near to this mosque was my favorite. It’s a big complex, the mosque it’s among the biggest most I’ve visited I. Türkiye. It’s supposed to be the biggest mosque between Istanbul and Saudi Arabia. The park around this mosque was my favorite place to walk in Adana.

Very beautiful mosque with awesome design and beautiful decorations. Very large interior and exterior surrounding yard. There is a huge park outside the mosque that has many activities for families and children. The mosque is also right on the river and a short walk from the old city.

The Stone Bridge was constructed around 200 A.D. and spans the Seyhan River. It remained open to traffic until 2007 and is still standing today. The bridge exhibits a simplistic yet stunning design, in contrast to modern bridges. On the opposite side of the bridge lies the old town and Ataturk museum, which are worth exploring. There are also several charming cafes and ice cream shops nearby, as well as street vendors selling various items like prayer beads and underwear.
Lovely little cafes and ice cream places about. Couple of buskers added to the atmosphere.Lots of trees so could enjoy the morning sitting in the shade with a cup of tea!

This bridge is a historical object. It's just for walking now, also there’s nice views especially in the dark time.
Denis — Google review
The bridge still stands after all these years, it’s simple but beautifully constructed, unlike those ugly bridges today. On the opposite site of the bridge, take sometime to walk the old town and the Ataturk museum.

Ancient bridge, the area has a lot of trash. Doesn’t feel too safe.

Great place to visit as well as nearby magnificent mosque.

Beautifully connecting two sides of the river since 200 AD. It is also a hub of sellers of random stuff from prayer beads to boxer shorts!

It’s a lovely classic bridge. Make sure to walk under it in the park to get the perfect photo.
Dalia Alnajjar — Google review
A beautiful, well-preserved bridge. You can stroll to the other end and back, just as people have done for many hundreds of years. A view of the huge mosque to the north makes for a nice view. There's not too much to do at the bridge, so I'd recommend next heading towards that mosque through the riverside park on the west bank there, as the nice part of town is in that direction. Though beware of aggressive beggars and peddlers at the mosque.

The stone bridge is located in the center of Adana city. It is very crowded on holidays. Sometimes local music is played. The view of the mosque and Sihon river is very beautiful. You can take good photos.
There is no entrance here, it is open to the public
The Varda Viaduct is an impressive architectural marvel characterized by its soaring structure and dramatic arches. It gained popularity after its appearance in the James Bond movie "Skyfall". Though worth a visit, drivers should be aware that there is only one passage through the tunnel, which is a one-way road. Visitors are advised to come early in the morning when it's less busy as photo taking spots can be dangerous.
German made bridge from 1912, Nice view

Safety warning. You need to drive carefully to this place, the road is narrow, after driving for an hour in a narrow road you will be reaching a cafe where you can rest and enjoy the view of the bridge. Only sandwiches and drinks, no kebap lol. We left the area and had our nice grilled sucuk at ( Tekir Zirve Restaurant), located on the top of the mountain where the view is also amazing.
RUMAISA KOUSA — Google review
Only worth visiting if you are driving close by. I didn't really see the draw here. Nice bridge, but way too many other things to see if your time is limited like mine was on vacation. Not easy to get to either. Seems most people go here just because it was in a James Bond movie. Skip it!

Worth a visit, great piece of architecture. Warning for the drivers - if you intend to continue through the road, keep in mind that there is only one passage through the tunnel and it is a one way (better visit when it's not busy).

Great view, perfect nature... The road from Adana-Karaisalı is much better compared to the road from Tarsus even though Tarsus road offers a better view of the bridge.

what a magnificent piece of work! this 100-meter-high vidaduct is a combined effort of german engineering and turkish muscle force, constructed more than 100 years ago. the road to the bridge is dangerous and for the most part consists of single lane but it's definitely worth to change the route to see this bridge.

Varda Viaduct is an impressive artifact of German engineering. It was built between 1907-1912 during the Ottoman period. It is a steel superstructure covered with stone blocks. It is very impressive and made worldwide famous with the Bond movie Skyfall.
It's an hour drive from Adana and deserves every effort spent to visit it.
While there, one must try the sweets of the car salesman. He cooks at the premise, the sweets are always fresh and very cheap ( three pieces/$)
Tarsus Waterfall, located in Mersin, Turkey, is a popular tourist spot known for its stunning natural beauty. The waterfall was formed when the Berdan Stream changed its course in the 5th century, creating an impressive cascade that attracts visitors with its enthusiastic appearance, especially in spring. Surrounded by dense forests and lush vegetation, the waterfall offers public viewing platforms and restaurant options where visitors can enjoy a bite amidst the fragrant jasmines and tranquil waters.
Tarsus is a great place to visit, and the waterfall's are great, but could do with a tidy up!

We visited here as part of our trip to Tarsus and really enjoyed it. Access is through a restaurant, although we did not stop to eat. Entrance is completely free as is the large car park.
The waterfall is wide and beautiful, but the part we liked the most was the friendly atmosphere from the locals.
There are picnic tables set up around the viewing site and they were packed with local people coming here to have a picnic breakfast, and were also singing and dancing, in fact they invited us to share their breakfast and dance with them.
There is a duck pond outside with a waterfall which also connects to the main falls. We'll worth going and bring a picnic!
