Popular, white-sand beach featuring a wooden boardwalk, plus a parking lot & restaurants.
Pretty nice beach. Clear water. Parking for free (October) showers at the beach are not working. Almost no shadow.

Absolutely worth a visit. Really unique feeling on a beach with “Rice” stones.
Also fantastic underwater experience with lots of fish to see, is like diving in a aquarium.
And yes it is crowded there, even during the week, but what to complain about, it’s summer vacation in all over Europe, so stop crying.
Jan “JanZi” Zimmermann — Google review
I think that is the best beach of the area. Got there at 7:30am and was nobody there so we had all the beach for ourselves. The water was perfect and very clean and the sand is just fabulous. Also you can see some fishes. When we left at around 11:30am was already busy. Highly recommend.
Larisa Manciu — Google review
Don't buy the hype. If you are close you can check it just to see nice small pebble sand. If you are thinking about driving from another part of an island, then let it go. There is a lot of plant matter on the beach - nobody is cleaning that. There are other nicer beaches on Sardinia. Oh, and parking is €2/h. What a ripoff.

The best beach that we have visited in Sardinia.
I give five stars for;
⭐ The Amazing view
⭐ Calm place
⭐ Romantic and charming spot
⭐ Wonderful sea, clear and clean
⭐ Reachable by car or by feet (if you book a nearby hotel)
In love with this place 😍

Lovely beach. Clear water. Gets deep quickly. Bring snorkels and also walk a bit
Eric Berberich — Google review
It's probably one of the top beaches in Sardinia. There is plenty of space, tons of parking, and beach access. The beaches keep going north and south. It has some of the best snorkeling in terms of fish and things to see.
Just know they are super serious about leaving that beach sand at the beach.
Ryan Pavlus — Google review
One of the best beaches on the west coast of the island. Not very windy, good for snorkeling.
Parking lot available at the entrance, costs about 10€ for the day.
Nemanja Spasojević — Google review
One of the best beaches I’ve ever visited. It is the beach of mini rounded stones, so called quarzo beach and this is amazing - tender but it doesn’t stick on your skin like sand. The see is great for swimming. Not too crowded in beginning of July. The parking nearby is quite expensive- 4 eur for 2 hours, however there are also other parking options.
Nataša Jeraj Kampuš — Google review
Wonderful beach with non typical “sand” looking as grains of rice which is being composed of small grains of quartz, which shades range from pink, to green, to pure white.
Pros: stretches for several kilometers, clear sea, easy reach from Oristano by bus, there are bars, free toilets and showers.
Cons: somewhere it’s to rocky seabed
Volodymyr Chumak — Google review
Beautiful beach. The sunset, the view, the rocks, the quartz sand. The position is remarkable, this beach is so picturesque you have a feeling it is out of this world. This is one of those things you do not to miss. :)
Monte Urpinu is a large, public park located on a hilltop in the city of Cagliari. It features tree-lined avenues and a children's playground, as well as panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. The park is popular for wildlife viewing and hiking, and is one of the best things to do in Cagliari for people who enjoy physical outdoor activities.
Lovely spacious hill park with many pine trees, good hardened paths to walk.
WPE Swanborn — Google review
The park is cute with some poultry. Nothing much though, a bunch of pine trees, but good to rest a bit and calm.
If you go a bit up at the top of the mountain, you have a nice view point on the bay.

If you're visiting Cagliari and seeking a picturesque and serene escape, look no further than Parco di Monte Urpinu! This park is an incredible afternoon experience, particularly in the spring when the lush greenery, blooming flowers, and enchanting water features create a true haven.
Parco di Monte Urpinu offers something for everyone. Families with children will find various areas specifically designed for their enjoyment, while those without kids can still appreciate the park's beauty and tranquility. The well-kept paths and ample seating in the form of benches provide the perfect setting for a leisurely stroll or a quiet moment of reflection.
Animal lovers, rejoice! This park is incredibly dog-friendly, so feel free to bring your furry friend along. But it's not just dogs that call Parco di Monte Urpinu home – the local wildlife is a true spectacle. The lake teems with friendly ducks and turtles that will practically eat out of your hand, making for a delightful and memorable encounter.
While there are colonies of feral cats roaming around the park that may appear intimidating, rest assured they don't cause any trouble. However, the real stars of Parco di Monte Urpinu are the majestic peacocks that freely wander the grounds. These beautiful creatures allow visitors to get remarkably close for photographs, but remember, they are still wild animals and should not be touched.
In summary, Parco di Monte Urpinu is a must-visit destination in Cagliari. Its beautiful landscapes, abundant wildlife, and family-friendly atmosphere make for a perfect afternoon outing. Don't miss out on the opportunity to experience this hidden gem – you won't be disappointed!

I love this place for good walking, to see the sunset from there, to see all the animals there are and even to drink some beers with friends seeing the whole city !

Amazing park! Best to go with children! Lots of room to run around and play. Many playgrounds. You will meet all kinds of animals that are super friendly and let you go really near. There is a really quiet easy walk to the top of the hill. It has beautiful views to the city. It’s a good idea to spend the sunset there!

Perfect for when you need to spend some time alone in the nature or even to meet friends
Ideal for a morning or afternoon jog
Not crowded at all

Very big and nice park with different birds and animals: goose, peacocks, turtles, cats. And it's totally free! The nature itself is also very beautiful, and it has good viewpoints from the top to catch sunset or just look at the city from the height.

Wonderful park to enjoy some time with (very loud) peacocks, all kinds of birds and other animals. Great for kids and adults alike.

The bird’s eye view of Cagliari. You can reach this spot easily by car, a short drive up to a top of a hill where you can see both sides of Cagliari. I happen to be there and witnessed an amazing sunset. Just sit there and enjoy the mesmerising view of the city. Quiet and nice wind felt refreshing.
Aravind Ramachandran — Google review
It is a must if you are in Cagliari! Lovely and relaxing park. It is very big so you shouldn't have any problem with finding a spot for yourself. At the road there is nice spot where you can watch the city from above with a panoramic view.
Capo Caccia is a striking rocky formation that offers breathtaking hiking routes, diving spots, and caverns with archaeological remnants. One cannot afford to miss exploring the famous Grotta di Nettuno (Neptune's Grotto) in this area. Visitors can reach here either by foot or boat ride from ports around the island such as Alghero. The caves are renowned for their stunning beauty and hidden depths, leaving visitors awe-inspired as they explore through crystal-clear waters.
Very nice view onto the ocean.. but unfortunately we came a lil late.. the way to its capo is kinda long.. and there r wild animals.. pigs.. fox.. thats why u should drive carefully.. so we missed the actual drop of the sun - but overall - very nice and calm!

Beautiful view but you need to pay almost 15€ for the entrance. However
tge service is not that good.
Mustapha Mechbal — Google review
This place is really nice. The views are amazing. But there are a lot of cars during a day so you may spent few minutes with finding a free spot to park. But it definitely worth a visit.
Jiří Červený — Google review
Capo Caccia is one of the most beautiful natural sites of Western Sardinia. Situated not far from Alghero, this rock formation jutting into the sea is visible from far away and adds depth to the horizon that you see from the city. You can combine your trip to Neptune's Grotto with a visit to this area. Some of the pictures that you take if you are arriving by boat will make this natural wonder seem gigantic. That's because as you get closer to the tip, your photo angles are low. Close-ups of the rock will be reminiscent of the heads of some marine animals. It's a magical place.
Georges Younes — Google review
This place must to be seen, good view and relaxing atmosphere! The entrance for the cave trough stairs is €14, but it worth to see!
Sukru Can — Google review
Rent a bicycle from Alghero and in one hour you reach this corner of heaven. Great views of the surrounding area. Everyone visiting Alghero should go to Capo Caccia. Stunning view on both of the sides over the sea and the bay!

The peak is not accessible (June 2023) as it's a military area. However close to this location is also the walking entrance (650 steps) to the grotta Nettune (15€ per person, guided tour ever full hour) for which most of the 5 star reviews are.

Well worth the trip , an oxygen tank might be needed for the walk back up
Su Nuraxi di Barumini is a unique defensive structure found only in Sardinia, consisting of a network of circular towers. This archaeological site is Sardinia's sole World Heritage Site and the most popular nuraghe on the island. The focal point of this early settlement is the 1500 BC tower that was incorporated into a fortified compound during later times. Many buildings were constructed in the Iron Age, and they form an intricate system of interconnected circular structures on the hillside.
The GUIDES are EXCELLENT!!! The explanations are great to understand this amazing place. The views from top of the tower are wonderful. And get inside the rooms, such a good aventure! I'll go there again!!

An interesting place to visit if you are into History and Archeology. You can only visit with a tour guide. It's €15 per person for approx 1h. Our guide seemed passionate and had lots of information to share about the discovery of the site and how it developed and changed over the years.
Opposite is a place where you can buy food and drinks/coffee etc. If you visit after, you can use your entry ticket to get a discount.

Very good destination to learn 2500-3000 years ago people constructed towers only from stones and again its seen the waters importance for people. English version available for the tour, tickets are 15€ for each. (3 destinations can be seen with that ticket)

Really interesting and not that expensive. Just 11€ for the Nuraxi guide + Historical Centre access

What a unique and fascinating story. The site can only be visited with a guide which makes absolute sense as you definitely nerd to be guided up and fown the narrow dark steps and corridors. Our guide was very knowledgeable. Do go if in the area.

Perfect for archaeology lovers: a little-known culture dominated the island for 1500 years and these sites are what they left behind. Quite impressive. Guided tours only.

Cool history and a nice tour if you can catch one in a language you speak, but quite remote and not as big as it seems in the pictures. If you're a history buff would recommend, if not then might not be worth the long drive.
Carly Blair — Google review
Interesting archeological side. Very friendly tourguide who spoke multiple languages. The tour takes around 50 min to 1 hour.
I don't recommend if you have trouble walking because you have to walk up and down very small stairs and spaces.
Yuv — Google review
We were lucky because we arrived less than 10min for the English tour (offered every hour).
The guide has a lot of knowledge about the place and used a fold with pictures and drawings to explain the history of the site. We entered inside the Nuraghy and were able to explore on our own. It’s quite impressive, absolutely worth the visit.

Amazing archeological place, dogged out so it’s nice preserved and very i retesting culture. Sad it collapsed. Water worshipping is somewhat unique. I think it’s the best nuragic place to visit in this part of Sardinia or even in all.

The ticket to Su Nuraxi di Barumini also included two tickets to museums, the guide in su nuraxi seems knowledgeable, seriously looking, and provide English service, it’s a historical wonder, and people who are interested in history I definitely recommend you to visit this place and the two museums, as well as walking around this lovely old town and immersing yourself in the history.

Ok. 12 euros (2023) for this UNESCO site maybe too much, there is not much too see. It's interesting mostly for fans of ancient history. You can take s few nice photos. There us a guide if you are a group.

The place has a certain charm. You can easily park in the nearby parking lot. There's a souvenir stand where you can buy tickets and find shade from the sun. The place is suitable for children; a guided tour takes about an hour and a half. The guides are pleasant, and the commentary is interesting.

Visit was nice but the guide was on her phone the whole time and was not giving us accurate information on the site - at times she was contradicting herself actually.
Same - it’s a great site with important local history.

Best Nuraghi archaeologic site in Sardinia.
Visits with a guide (Italian or Engilish) only.
A climb in the high tower is only for people with a good condition.
Cliff van Dijk — Google review
Our final stop was yet another nuraghe, this one the most complex on the island and a major tourist site. There was a proper car park and access was only by guided tour. To be fair, after doing the tour you could see why as access to the central tower was by extremely steep and narrow steps. Kudos to Deb though for even getting out of the car after already seeing two of these sites and then doing the tour too.
Our guide was Sabrina who was celebrating her 30th year in the job! She explained about the rise and collapse of the Nuragic civilisation and how little we actually know about them as they left no written records. Archeologists have shown that the towers originally had merlons projecting out from the top with a balcony above them. The reconstructions look like medieval castles but 3000 years before those really existed and I find it difficult to believe an island the size of Sardinia needed or could support 7000 castles!
The tour was really rather good and we went through the original entrance 20m up the wall and down the steps into the courtyard from which 4 other towers radiated. Outside this structure was a later village, built when the nuraghe was abandoned and largely using looted stone. This site was the busiest of the lot with tours every 30 minutes but the ability to climb almost to the top and get an overview of the structure was fantastic.

Geschichtlich sehr interessant.
Beim Besuch der Nuraghe ist festes Schuhwerk zu empfehlen.

Historically very interesting.
Sturdy shoes are recommended when visiting the nuraghe.
Good afternoon, there was one tour at 10, one at 3 pm that day. Nice tour sailors, really helpful. They maybe could give us more details about the region/environment. Really hot on the boat so don’t forget sunscreen and water!!

First time being in a cave, cool place to view. Guide tours in both Italian and English, also possible to ask questions in French. Typical tourist attraction but one definitely worth doing when in Alghero.

Absolutely dissapointing..arrived at the cave and captain said that weather is not good to park the boat. Did not even reach the entrance to see that. At that moment the waves was 0.6-0.8m. They already told while buying tickets that if weather is not good they will just swim around with the boat (like they knew that it will happen from the beginning).
Justas Kynas — Google review
The place is so good and the long boat ride seeing the cliffs was awesome. The boat ride to the caves was 40 minutes and costed 15 euros.
Abirami S — Google review
Really disappointed. We took the boat and they didn't say anything bad about the weather. We arrived to the grotto and they decided to go back because of the waves (I found this OK, but is not like they can't know this before going, specially because it wasn't the first boat today and there was another one on the site dropping off some passengers). The trip per se is nothing amazing, it was fine though, we took the boat because there are not buses on Sunday 😢

This is a trip you must do. The Grotte is a wonderful sight to see (price is completely seperate to the boat ride out and my experience is that you are told this) I have seen dolphins on 2 trips out to the Grotte and Steps. The crew on Debora are great. Very welcoming and hospitable. Coffee and refreshments are served on board ☕️

Spiaggia di Maria Pia is a renowned beach that stretches for over a kilometer, boasting of crystal-clear waters and pristine white sand. Initially created 60 years ago to protect the surrounding crops from the sea, it has now transformed into a popular city park frequented by families, children and even those in search of a training center. The beach offers free entry at all times and impresses visitors with its cleanliness whilst providing numerous bars and restaurants.
Relaxing time spent here. Last day in Sardinia - spent on Maria Pia. There are several bars and a good local restaurant. Nice blue water. Perfect

Beautiful beach. Sunbeds and umbrellas are available €25 for day. €18 for half day.or just bring your own beach mat. Great snack bar/ restaurant. At times there is a waft of eggs smell from the piles of rotting seagrass. But beautiful white sands and clean crystal clear water. Much nicer than the lido beach which is disappointing.

Nice beach with wonderful sand. Very full though during the season. (We were there at the beginning of September) The sunsets were marvelous. The water was colder than on the eastern side of the island but clean. We came bacj a few times since it was close to our rental apartment and since we alway found a (paid) parking spot. Great for families with children.

I decided to use 5 ⭐️ not because of the crystal sea 🌊 but because of location 📍 is really wow 😯
The place where i go, i feel really comfortable and i enjoy 😉 to much!
Very good 👍 people, friendly, lovely and helpful staff 100%
Actually i have bean 3 years ago and nothing changed, maybe prices are a bit higher because of crisis and Covid-19 but the mos important thing is that situation is really good 😌 I come special from Sweden 🇸🇪 to enjoy vocation in Alghero city, but from Alghero with bus 🚌 is not so far 1€ ticket 🎫 from Alghero to Spiaggia di Maria Pia around 10 till 15 minutes depend of traffic.
I can recommend this place to everyone who really want to visit Alghero city, because Spiaggia di Maria Pia is one ☝️ of the best without questions!

I like this beach much more than Lido beach. Lido beach can smell bad if the water is not warm enough (due to the algae). The water at this beach is crystal clear. While swimming we saw some tiny fish 😄. Naturally you can find some pinecones and branches on the beach from the trees but it didn’t bother me.

Maria Pia is a lovely beach with white sand, dunes, and turquoise waters near Alghero. We visited the beach when in Alghero for a weekend. As it is close, we waddled there. From the city center, it took us about 40 minutes at a chill pace. My favorite part is the entrance, where you have to go through a pine forest. It's magical. And then the white sand and giant dunes. It is among the best beaches in Sardinia and I agree.
If you don't want to walk there you can take a taxi or the local bus. The beach has all necessities, a bathroom, and bars to refresh.
The beach is also easily accessible with wheelchairs, it has a wooden pathway.

Such a beautiful beach. We didn't expect that a public beach (free entrance any time of the day/night) could be so clean. If you are there I simply recommend visiting it!
Spiaggia La Pelosa, located in the Stintino region of Sardinia, is a tranquil ocean getaway with white-sand beaches and calm blue waters ideal for swimming and diving. The beach is famous for its Aragonese watchtower overlooking the sea and exposure to the mistral wind making it perfect for water sports. However, due to concerns about damage caused by overcrowding, access to the beach is now limited to just a few hundred people per day.
Beautiful beach. And windy, very windy. But really, really beautiful.
irena — Google review
We visited La Pelosa Beach at the beginning of October on a sunny day. When we arrived at around 11am there were a few parking spaces left next to the La Pelosseta entrance.
Beware of the touts, they will approach you right after you get out of your car and will start selling you the mats, even before you will pick your thinkgs from the car or unbuckle your children, so that is a bit annoying. I thought there would be some official place where you can buy the mats, but I haven’t found one, so ended up buying from the tout. One guy offered me two big mats for 15€ and then was ready to sell for 10€, but then he was gone, so I ended up buying two for 15€ (7,5€ each).
The beach itself is really beautiful, it was quite crowded compared to other beaches we visited in Sardinia, but not too bad.
For those who want to visit in summer but do not manage to get a booking, I would still recommend to visit La Pelosa and Pelosseta just like a sighseeing stop, you can really enjoy the views of the water from above, there is a nice rooftop viewing point, where you can see both beaches. After the stop you can hit some other less crowded beach.
Romualdas Laurinavi?ius — Google review
Very nice beach, clear water, nice view, but it's way too overrated, you have to wake up at 6:00 in the morning to do a reservation for the third day, to enter the beach and it cost 3,5€/person, once you arrive there you have to pay 2€/hour the parking, and if you want to rent sunbeds and umbrella it cost you 35 euros for the third row, and the bathrooms didn't had water so we couldn't use them...
Ramo Istrate — Google review
Beach? One of the best, but full of people, must reserve in advance (see pictures), you can use Peloseta to get to the water...
Parking is charged from 8am to 8pm

Visited in April 2024. Parking everywhere is for free! White sand and crystal clear blue water. One of the most beautiful beaches we’ve seen in north of Sardinia.
Christian Schwarz — Google review
The most beautiful beach I have seen so far.
Water is cristal clear, fine white sand and marvelous views.
You will think you are at the Caribbean.
BUT all good things have a price and the beach is very crowded as well.
ATTENTION!
1. It is necessary to buy tickets online in the web lapelosastintino and the price is 3,5€ per person.
2. It is compulsory to have a beach mat with your tower. If you don’t have there’s people selling them there.
3. If you go by car, which is the usual, there’s parking meter which costs 1,65€ per hour and there’s a big queue in the machines.
To avoid waiting, you can download the app flowbird which gives you one hour for free.
In the case of getting the ticket through the app you find a paper on your car, dont be alarmed, it is just a warning and they later check if everything is good in the app. They even write in the paper “verif app” (it doesn’t have a lot of sense)
4. Expect loads of people

Beautiful beach, blue like no other.
Book in advance online first, access from 8 to 18h. Staff will give you a bracelet so you can come and go as you please. Cost € 3.5 per person (July) pets are not allowed, you can not smoke on the beach, you have spots available for that, a mat under the towel is mandatory if you want to lay in the sand. You have access to showers and WC. You can rent Parasol (2chairs+1umbrella €35) or you can bring your own if you want.
Parking is 2.5€ per hour in most area. You can download the app (EasyPark) and pay per minutes too.
Amazing experience, love everything about it.
Great for children, families, couples.
You have to spend the day there.

The Maldives of Europe. The waters are so clear it’s an amazing experience to swim there. The reservation is needed for this beach (3,5€) but you can access the waters from other spots without reservation! It’s quite crowded so in my opinion it’s even better to go from the other spots.
You will need luck to find a parking spot if you come around 11:30 like us. Parking cost around 14€ for 7 hours.

La Pelosa Beach is a coastal gem that leaves visitors mesmerized with its crystal-clear blue waters and abundant marine life. During my visit, I was captivated by the sight of fish gracefully gliding through the water, creating an unforgettable underwater spectacle right before my eyes.
The shallow waters that extend up to 500 meters from the shore offer a unique opportunity to explore the sea on foot, making it an excellent destination for families and non-swimmers alike. The safe and calm waters ensure a relaxing experience, perfect for unwinding and soaking in the natural beauty.
I rate La Pelosa Beach with 4 stars due to its remarkable water clarity, enchanting marine life, and the convenience of walking into the sea for an extended distance. However, it's worth noting that during peak times, the beach can get quite crowded, affecting the overall tranquility of the surroundings.
Despite this minor setback, La Pelosa Beach remains a must-visit destination for anyone seeking a close encounter with the wonders of nature. The picturesque setting and the chance to witness marine life up close make it an unforgettable coastal retreat.

One of the best beaches of Sardinia, the beach with small white sand, just access need reservations with a cost. You will need to plan your coming before 1 day at least especially in high period, on summer. Not possible to have cotton towel, only woody onces are acceptable.

A wonderful scenery with long and soft sand beach and amazing water with colors from crystal clear, light to dark blue.
Reservation required, special cover needed to protect sand from towel and charged parking - but for sure worth a visit.

A must visit beach at the north east side of Sardinia! Especially during summer months and peak times expect to face a crowded beach and need to be a bit patient with finding a parking slot! Move on the side away from the organized umbrella sets and you will find space! The amazing turquoise waters will pay you off in the end! Take a look at the beach from above - enjoy! 😉

A must visit beach in Sardinia. It’s always very crowded, but you can go after 18:00 and enter without a ticket, exactly when crowds start disappearing. Great weather, temperature, sand, views… you can even swim yo a nearby island with a tower! Wonderful place.

Come here to witness natural beauty destroyed by tourism.
Much better places to visit on the coast can be found with a map, a brain and a car.

Pretty crowded in the morning but clears up in the afternoon. The water is clear and clean the the sand is the finest I’ve experienced in Sardinia. Reservation with at least 48hours in advance is needed & straw mat is mandatory. The beach is also wheelchair accessible

(Translated by Google) One of the most beautiful places in Sardinia and in the world. You will be able to find various things to visit, the prison, the ossuary, the old work buildings, but above all... The greenery and the sea. It's great to tour the island by bike, be careful in the summer because it's 40 degrees. The only thing, remember that this island is a protected park, so forget about services, taxis, public transport, banks or similar.

Roccia dell'Elefante, also known as Elephant Rock, is a remarkable natural formation located along state road 134 in the Castelsardo area of Sardinia. This large rust-colored boulder, about four meters high, bears a striking resemblance to a seated elephant. Not only is it an intriguing sight to behold, but it also holds archaeological significance as it contains two ancient Fairy Houses used for burial rituals thousands of years ago.
Definitely recommend it to visit when you're in Sardinia! Couple on minutes drive from Castelsardo. It's free as being on the side of the road. Parking is easy and free we got there around 11am in June '19, some tourist but not crowded. Could comfortably take photos. The view also beautiful as always on this island 🌞😁

It look’s exactly like in the pictures. There were only 3-4 people at the time I went which was at 15:00 so i guess it’s not a very visited site.
It was interesting but kinda looked human made it has like tunnels which looked to perfect to be natural.
You won’t be spending more than 5 minutes there since it’s not really big. If you don’t want to lose 5 minutes you can pass by it by car and you will see everything since it’s right next to the road.

Yes there is a resemblence to a pachyderm. Which, when you think about it, is rather a remarkable achievement for a rock.

Worth a visit if in the area. Allow 2hrs for the visit. Park your car at the car park by the main road and walk the remainder of the way up the single track road. Not expensive entry and the site is well kept and clean. Would definitely recommend.

This archeological monument is run by two lovely women. The entrance is charged 3€ for adults and 1,5€ for kids. It's worth it, though. The landscape is beautiful and the view is as well. Nuraghe majori itself is an interesting building of Sardinian architecture. In the area are toilets and a little souvenir shop. They give you a paper guide in various languages (even in Czech). From the parking it's a 5 min walk.

Capo Testa is a picturesque coastal area in the northernmost point of Sardinia. It offers visitors stunning views of the sea and rocky hiking trails, as well as coves with small sandy beaches to explore. The peninsula is known for its weather-carved granite boulders that resemble sculptures by Henry Moore and a sturdy lighthouse that overlooks the blue waters towards Corsica.
Lovely panoramic view and setting, beautifull spos and bars. Parking tricky (need to come very early) be careful parking attendants are red hot there.

Really impressing rocks & worth a visit! Parking not so easy and the trails need some hints where to go. The beach directly at Capo Testa is a unique place, but extremely crowded - and hard to reach (some „climbing“).

Great with kids, can climb pretty much all over.
Even the coffee bar at the top was great… good burgers and great fries
Peter Jackson — Google review
Capo Testa is great for a walk to discover the rock formations sculpted by the wind. But it is also great for a swim. There are two sides, on one side a long strip of sand and the other a couple of hidden small creeks with some sand. We chose the later for its peaceful nature and crystal clear water.
Parking could be a big issue during the high season. While you come on the road and see some cars, park, don’t go further thinking you will find something. You won’t.

This is the most beautiful and interesting coast in Sardegna. Crystal clear water, some fish, strange rock formations and several path around.
Be careful with the parking! If you manage to find a place, where the whole car is beyond the white line, you are lucky, you can park for free. If a part of your car crosses the white line, you will pay a nice fine,so better choice to find a blue line slot and pay at a machine...

When I arrived at Olbia and I checked in my first question was
What place should I visit If I have only 3 days here?
The answer was: If you have a car you should visit Capo Testa
Capo Testa is located at the north of Olbia.
It is the closest point to Corsica and you can see it’s coast
This place (Capo Testa) is not only beautiful for being nearest to Corsica but also for the phenomenal small beaches with
Yellow sand, rocks and blue and crystalline water
You can find several beautiful beaches between Capo Testa and Santa Taresa di Galluro where you can choose either small beaches, Bahia’s and beaches a little bigger
If you are thinking in visiting Cerdeña staying in Olbia, you must visit Capo Testa (it’s far away 60 kms from Olbia)

The popular Plage de Santa Giulia in Porto-Vecchio, a bay on the south coast of Corsica, is surrounded by clear, shallow water and beachside restaurants. The pier offers fishing opportunities.
One of the best beaches in Corsica! There are good bars and restaurants, water is crystal clear. One can walk around and explore nice and more quiet places around.
F. Zefi — Google review
We expected more since we visited palombaggia. Santa Giulia is long but narrow beach so we hardly found our spot. We were located in front of some mobile homes and it was really bad smell I guess from the toilettes. The water was clear and shallow, so is perfect for small kids. But a lot of grass in the water and on the beach. Parking lot is 5min away walking and it costs us 5€ per whole day.
Sanja Rozman — Google review
Very beautiful beach in the southeast of Corsica. Partly white sand and turquoise water. The beach is very long and unfortunately also very busy. Nevertheless beautiful. If you are looking for a quieter place to sunbathe, you should walk down the beach to the end, even further than the last hotel-restaurant. In front of the the Hotel there is also a small free parking lot, next to a small lake, but there you have to be a bit lucky, because the other parking lots cost 15 € per day. If you want to go out for a meal, you should know that the beach is mainly home to high-priced eateries. Exception is a kind of fast food restaurant, but that is unfortunately at the other end of the beach.

An amazing beach with clear water for the kids to play all day. There are two bars where you can easily get all the necessary food and drinks, so if you are a person who can stay in one place for the whole day, this beach offers everything. For the first 50 meters the water is very shallow, again amazing for little kids. They can walk in and out (under your watchful eye of course) all day. The water was also not cold. I recommend at least a couple of hours to visit, but it could get crowded.
Jon Premik — Google review
A beautiful beach to visit. A free parking lot located at the beach. A couple of restaurants situatuated along the beach for an ice cream, a beverage or something to eat. Lots of shade and lovely white sandy beach.
Charlene Elliott — Google review
Water is shallow and clear, sand is white. Bay is beautiful and the ship can’t come close. So why just 3 out of 5?
The grade is lowered by the August crowd, but hey, this is the time i am here. It is super busy.
There’s also quite a bit of seaweeds that reduce the amount of available beach. They also smell quite a lot. If you’re going in the paid part of it, just disregard this, they keep it pretty clean and they look gorgeous.
Another minus is the parking, the closest to the beach costs 20€!!! TWENTY!!!
There are cheaper options with nice pals (search for the 5€ one on google map, there’s a 5’ walk on a nice path).
Overall, there are FAR better options. Balistra, petit Sperone, Stagnolu and even Rondinara.

Very nice beach. We went there a bit late, but we will definitely come back for a swim, the surrounding is magnificent!
michel mougey — Google review
The beach definitely has a potential. However, it is a victim of its own popularity. In the high season it is very busy. Additionally, the beach is not cleaned of decaying sea weeds making it a very unpleasantness place to lay your towel on. The prices in the surrounding bars and restaurants resemble those found in Switzerland rather than in France. Perhaps the biggest nuisance is the noise pollution. The beach is used to rent all kind of watercraft that emit constant noise and exhaust fumes, polluting this otherwise beautiful place even more. You will do better going somewhere else, unless you enjoy crowds, high prices, dead seewed and noise.

This is what a beach should look like. Beautiful sea, mountains in the background, warm sun. Usually not too crowded, plenty of room to swim, take a walk by the shore, or play with your kids. Definitely will return here!
Tamás Kondor — Google review
Ridiculously packed and honestly expected a lot more. I think the beach is victim to its popularity as the beach was quite dirty with cigarette butts and random trash , and this was early in the morning. Also on the left hand side it’s just a port with all the boats so doesn’t feel great to be swimming so close to that. Views are very nice and water quite warm.
Getting in and out is a complete nightmare as the roads are extremely narrow and two cards barely fits. Arrive as early as possible and leave between 2-330pm

One of the most beautiful beaches close to Porto-Vecchio. It's definitely a must-see when you're in the area.
After 11 am can get quite crowded, but that's something normal.
Unfortunately, some people act like they are at their house throwing away rubbish like bottle caps. You have to be careful while walking on the sand.
Palombaggia is a picturesque beach located near Porto-Vecchio, boasting stunning views of its white sandy shore and turquoise waters. This scenic coastal area is surrounded by evergreen trees, creating a serene and natural ambiance. Nearby, visitors can explore the charming town of Porto-Vecchio with its historic citadel and quaint streets. Palombaggia itself offers a lagoon-like bay with clear and crystal waters, perfect for swimming or simply admiring the beauty of nature.
Wonderful sand beach with convenient parking. Came at around 11 in the morning and it was not a problem to park car in the shade of pine trees. And parking is free! Beach itself goes alongside, walk further and it will not be crowded at all. Crystal clear and shallow water, stones to make insta pics, bars everything is there! The best beach for us visited in Corsica! Recommended!!!

This is, to me, the best beach in Corsica. The dand is white and thin, the water very clean and light blue. You can park very close to the beach if you get there early (before 10am) otherwise there are parking on the street and with a 10-15min walk (very easy) you get there anyway.
Around 11 till 5pm is a bit crowded but still there's plenty of space.

At 11am, we’ve ordered 2 cappuccinos at an almost empty restaurant. We were served two cups of warm milk with barely dissolved instant coffee or similar substance floating on top although they have an espresso machine. Upon politely asking whether our order was misunderstood, we were informed in no uncertain terms that “chez nous le cappuccino est comme ça”. Best avoided.

This was such a nice place - our first question was “do you accept credit card” as some very nearby places don’t or pretend they don’t accept CC but here the waiter/ owner was very clear: yes we do - the food itself was very tasty, the service was very friendly (almost ‘not-French’ if you get my point), and the location/ view is excellent - thank you “Aiguilles” team!

They offer top quality meals, when "it was too late" for the other two restaurants nearby, the staff are excellent, very nice, the meals were all of a quite large portion and very tasty.

Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Tarquinia - Palazzo Vitelleschi

History Museums
'Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Tarquinia', a nice journey into the past❗It is an amazing Etruscan museum, hosted in a small provincial palace (Palazzo Vitelleschi), a gem. Don't miss it❗Take your time to admire the pottery's drownings. They are really beautiful. Address: Piazza Cavour 1a, Tarquinia, Province of Viterbo, Lazio Region.
About the building - The Palazzo Vitelleschi was built in 1436/1439 for the cardinal of Tarquinia. After the cardinal's death the palace was used as stopover for the popes. Soderini family purchased the property and turned it into a hotel. In 1900 it was acquired by the city of Tarquinia. Then it was donated it to the Italian state in 1916, which transformed it into today's museum. It was opened in 1924. Worth a visit.

Lovely place for lunch. Beautiful town and reasonable prices a bit off the tourist routed

What a treasure! I definitely recommend this amazing museum. It probably hosts the richest collection of Etruscan art. You will dig into the past discovering their cults and their skills in working metals and rocks. The ticket (combined with the tombs is only 10 euros). The beautiful building of the museum is itself worth the price of the visit.
I am not giving 5 stars because unluckily, the pieces at the museum are not well displayed. The narrative during the visit and the descriptions of the objects are missing. But worst of all, I didn’t see any indications in English. I’m saying this as an Italian, sorry but this is not acceptable in 2021!

One of my favorite museums in Italy. It features a very large collection of Etruscan and Roman sarcophagi and funeral objects. Don't miss it!

Colorful paintings of human figurines & animals adorn Etruscan tombs at this archaeological complex.
a really complete site of tombs. the wall paintings stayed almost perfectly, you can recognize most of the subjects.

Not as big as those near Cerveteri, but hey, totally worth the visit (combined with the museum too for just 10 €).
In the summer, can be too hot to walk from tomb to tomb under the sun. But the whole park is not very big, so doable.

Absolutely unbelievable and astonishing preservation of tombs with painting from Etruscan age. Great care has been taken to present them in a manner that preserves them into the future. There are a few shaded areas to sit during the walk through the grounds. Bring a drink and a hat for warm weather.

Good place to see illustrated Etruscan burial tombs. Some better than others regarding the quality and detail of the wall paintings. A shame that some are behind virtually opaque condensated glass doors. No maps to enable filtering of best tombs unless you pay €4 for audio guide. Lots of steep narrow steps to negotiate. Staff attitude indifferent to customers. Just too much bother.
Santa Severa Castle is a striking medieval fortress located on a promontory, offering stunning sea views from the Saracen Tower. The castle overlooks a long stretch of wide sandy beach, making it one of the best beaches near Rome. The beach, known as spiaggia libera, is freely accessible to all and gets quite crowded during the summer months. The castle's historical legacy is remarkable, with massive polygonal blocks visible in its walls.
We had the pleasure of staying here for a couple of nights and the location is an absolute treat. Moving around the premises is a little awkward as the place is a living museum and certain areas are off limits or require a ticket for access, but we managed. Nobody speaks english so you need to be pretty self sufficient. There is a common area for hotel guests with a kitchen, books, soda and coffee machines and free wifi throughout. If we ever come back here, I hope we can get a room with sea view or a balcony, but other than that the place is magical, I found it's truly worth the experience.

Beautiful castel at the beach, actually much nicer from outside than from inside . Origins are from the eteuscans 700 bc, later occupied by Greek settlers in 400 bc , many roman relicts from the era when if was port to Rome, and used ever since until today. Remains of an early Christian Church have been unearthed, the remaining big tower is from the 9th century, outside walls on the north side from roman time about 2000 years ago. There is a bistro and tourists. The place can be reached easily from Rome by train. Th beach is beautiful and the whole setup worth a trip from Rome

Wonderful location! You can spend sometime in the castle and also have a nice sea coast walk. A big part of the castle is free to visit. A ticket for the museums is 8 euro for adults. The museums are recommended to visit. There is an interesting private museum of alchemy in the territory of the castle (entrance and excursion is for donation). There are also hand-made masters with beautiful creations. Bar and food zone is near the castle. Also a little restaurant is nearby on the beach

Stunning views only about 40min drive outside of Rome. Definitely suggest going there if you’re in Rome in off-season, the beach is quiet and calm, with barely any people there.

A great castle right on the shore. We were surprised that this castle was more than a single building. It had an outer wall, buildings inside the wall, and then finally the large castle. We didn't stay here but I read it offers rooms to stay in for a very reasonable rate.

the castle itself has been renovated a bit too modern for our taste.

Beautiful location very close to the sea and to Santa Marinella Beach, but there is really not much to see here. Unless you are in the area, I would not make the trip. Also, the Holiday market is very tailored to young children which is not clearly advertised on their website.

Vulci, an ancient Etruscan-Roman city sprawling across a 120-acre plain, offers visitors walking trails through its ruins, a cemetery, and an archaeology museum. Overrun by the Romans in 280 BC, the present remains are considered Roman. The city is bounded by the river Flora. The archaeological museum provides informative panels in Italian and English for self-guided tours.
Well the archaeological site is just incredible and so interesting and we enjoyed walking around it though it is quìte exposed for the majority of the walk. There are explanation on some of the boards in english as well as italian and you receive a park map from a surly woman at the entrance. Bring snacks and drinks as the restaurant nearby the pond walk is not great.
You will have to do your research before arrival as unfortunately, the staff at the admission desk were disinterested and verging on rude. No advice or guidance offered and they wanted as little to do with us as possible...3 women sitting behind a desk, doing nothing and answering our queries was just too much for them.
However don't let that out you off, the site itself is amazing.
Toilets on site.
They advertise ebike rental but when I enquired I was given a short no. It would have been better enjoyed by bike in the heat.

We were very happy to come with dogs but in the hall of reception were 3 cats and horrible cat smell. I have nothing against cats but it was a big problem to buy tickets and I could not buy some souvenirs. When we went out of the hall of reception the other car attacked my dogs. I have big size dogs and they could kill cars in one second. The park is fantastic and very nice walk with dog but the entry was horrible. I would suggest to put out cat from reception, don't make nerves people who come to walk with dogs

Ostia Antica is an archeological site located just outside the city centre of Rome, Italy. The ruins of the ancient port town dating back to at least the 4th century BC are well preserved, and provide a great insight into everyday life in Roman times.
It's amazing. When you walk through this place you can feel the old roman history. You can see all in one place like as temple for Gods, Basilica for Christians, Theatre, Bath, Multi storied old luxurious residence, beautiful open place, fresh air etc etc.
Overall i loved it. I will go again to explore more. This site is huge. Single visit is not enough to see everything.

Wow - I was recommended to go for a day trip while staying in Rome and it didn’t disappoint. Such a big site and so much to see. I took the Short Course audio guide and expanded a bit from that - took 3 hours to do the place justice. The one big downside is the lack of any toilets or cafes within the site, so plan ahead on water etc - it looks like there was and the place is being renovated so hopefully that issue is resolved soon.

Easy walk from the train station, large site with lots to explore and a good value cafe. Very interesting. I listened to the free Rick Steve's audio tour while visiting (available to download online) and that helped guide my visit a bit. The museum was closed and most of the mosaics were covered so maybe offer a winter discount when there's less to see?

Poorly managed pearl of Rome.
The place itself is amazing and you can literally immerse into this ancient city that used to host 50000 habitats in its best period.
Unfortunately, the troubles start from the entrance. The security/ tickets control guy was hostile, there is no clear guide on “how to plan your visit”, there are NO TOILETS on the entire complex (only one before the entrance) so I have found a few HUMAN WASTE while exploring, maps of the place are confusing and descriptions of places only show dry facts. The best collection of well preserved statues and paintings is closed.
All of the above leaves a feeling of being grossed out.

Such a great place with lots of mosaic floors! Far from the madding crowds of the more touristy attractions and an easy train ride from Rome. It is very big and there are lots of buildings to explore. They don't supply a guide when you buy your ticket but you can use their app (or research it before your visit and download a nap off the internet). Plan to be there the whole day between seeing Ostia Antica and also exploring the town around it.

Amazing park. Easy to find. Medium size parking space in front but free. Possibility to go to toilet before to enter park. Nice staff. Fountains with drinkable water throughout the park. Clean, safe and well signed. Even if you do not buy the site map, there are plenty of signs in the park which show you where you are and where to go. Audio tour and guided tours available. Where possible adapted to accommodate wheelchair or stroller access, but of course it remains an excavation site so not flattened roads everywhere... safe for children. Good explanations and lots of beautiful Roman remnants to be seen!
And good to know; every FIRST SUNDAY of the month entrance for FREE! (In all museums in Rome actually)

Underrated ruins. Super cheap to get to as a single metro ticket will get you from anywhere in Rome to Ostia Antica in about 30-45 minutes with a train change at Piramide stop. The ruins are vast, some are quite well preserved. Tons of info placards and a gorgeous ancient amphitheater that they still use. A great look at ancient Rome away from Rome and a great way to spend half a day away from the crowds. Good, reasonably priced cafe about halfway through the ruins. There's a few Nesoni to fill bottles along the main road but you might have to brave some bees to use them.
Bryan Jacobs — Google review
The park is really interesting. Much bigger than it seems and one can walk pretty much anywhere, inside the ruins etc. My only concern were the prices, 19 euros for the full price and another 4 for a map is quite a lot. For a similar price you get to visit Forum Romanum and Colosseum (which were much more beautiful and interesting in my opinion).

Ostia Antica is a captivating historical gem, just a stone's throw away from Rome. Stepping into this ancient Roman port town is like entering a time machine.
The well-preserved ruins offer a vivid glimpse into daily life during the Roman Empire. Walking along the cobbled streets, you can imagine the bustling markets, thriving taverns, and the vibrant community that once thrived here.
The highlight for me was the stunning theater, where you can still sense the echoes of performances from centuries past. The intricate mosaics, grand temples, and the well-preserved baths all attest to the architectural prowess of the era.
What makes Ostia Antica even more special is the peaceful atmosphere. Unlike its more famous neighbor, Rome, you can explore the site without battling crowds. It's a serene journey through history, and I relished every moment.
If you're a history enthusiast or simply looking for a day trip from Rome that offers a different perspective on ancient Rome, Ostia Antica is a must-visit. It's a hidden treasure waiting to be discovered, and I highly recommend adding it to your list of must-see destinations.

This place is a must see!! You’ll be able to walk at leisure through a real ancient roman city but without the immense crowds of central Rome.
Skip the ruins at the beginning and head into the area of the theater and other temples and work your way back and marvel at this beautiful place.
(Visited over 6 months ago in the summer. Apparently the mosaics are currently under maintenance)
One negative aspect: the only clerk at the ticket office refused to call a taxi for me because it “wasn’t a service they offered” when I, being all by myself was unable to flag one at closing time. I walked 2 minutes to the nearest cafe and was in a cab 10 minutes later.

If you are into history or archeology like we are then this is a must visit place. The site is truly amazing. What we were disappointed with is it appears this has become a money machine and more about getting as many tourists in as possible than preserving this awesome site. We saw photos from decades past and much that was once stunning has been lost to the millions of people, kids and adults alike, running amok all over the ruins. There is so much that is in the scrub and trees around this site that is left to be uncovered yet I saw no evidence of work being done to uncover or preserve. Pieces of history were being handled by the masses without any attempts to control them. More work on preservation balanced with the tourist machine should be done.
Will McAdoo — Google review
Great Ancient Rome site, one of the best in Italy. No major crowds, and some areas of the site I didn’t see anyone at all. You’re free to explore the ruins, there isn’t that much off limits which is why this place is so great. There’s also many fine mosaics and frescoes which you’ll stumble across, and the beauty is there’ll be no other tourist around looking at it but you. Because of this, your imagination easily runs wild.

Ostia Antica is a perfect day trip from Rome. It's easily accessible by train (30 minutes from Porta San Paolo station), and a less crowded than other sites in Rome.
Founded around the 4th century BC, this strategic port at the Tiber River's mouth was the gateway for goods flowing into Rome.
Ostia Antica flourished for centuries. Around its streets, there's the forum (the city's heart), remarkably preserved apartment blocks, bathhouses, and even a theater. Shops and taverns line the streets, offering a glimpse of a bustling commercial center. However, as Rome's power declined, so too did Ostia Antica's fortunes. It was gradually abandoned, leaving a remarkably preserved portrait of a once-vibrant Roman port city.

There are also several relatively high building on which you could enter and see everything from higher point of view.
I recommend to visit it as earlier as you can, because there are almost no people then and you can admire ruins and nature in quite and peace.

Tremendous, fascinating Roman ruins with lots of interesting spots in what was an entire city. Such a hidden gem! We have visited Rome several times during the last few years but only made it out here for the first time in December 2023. There was hardly anyone around which made the visit to this ancient city very magical. The restoration is incredible and inspiring. And the best thing is the cafeteria has amazing food! The hardest part of the visit was navigating the city streets and finding parking.
It was raining lightly so we had to be cautious walking up the cobblestone ramps and stairs. But other than that, the rain is not too much of a deterrent because you can spend a lot of time inside the various museum rooms and even stand under arches and such while taking photos in the various courtyards.
This visit was a last minute addition to our plans so we only had a little over an hour to go through it. I think we could have easily spent 2 or more hours there.
A word of warning, check the website the week you are planning to go there. If there is an early closure to the public that week, they communicate that as a pop-up message on the homepage. You don't want to go through the trouble of finding a parking space, only to find out the museum is closing in less than an hour.
Also, as far as I could tell (there were some places blocked off to us as they were setting up for some sort of event) The only rest rooms were 2 port a potties right after you get inside the castle proper. If you think you may need to go within the next hour or so, use it now. You don't want to be on the other side of the castle and have to retrace your steps a couple extra times. Especially if you have a limited amount of time.

Must visit; not only for the lake but also the beautiful surroundings of the lake where you can hike or stop and eat etc. The lake itself was clean and peaceful and it’s the second largest lake in the region and one of the major lakes in Italy( it’s a volcanic lake by origin) and for the first time I saw a type of rat that I’ve never seen before there eating rice😅: Nutria (Myocastor coypus), also known as the coypu. On Fridays, you have open market very close to the lake where you buy jewelry, bags etc.

Villa Lante is a 16th-century mansion with Italian Mannerist gardens and a park containing numerous fountains and an icebox. Although the gardens are beautiful, they receive few visitors. A free tour of one of the various buildings on site takes place weekly; however, there are no clear signs indicating its location. The limonaia was visited during one such tour where Margaret Thatcher was said to have stayed (though the picture shown by their guide was actually of Princess Margaret!).
Perfect spot for a quiet walk away under ancient trees. Would be great if they had a coffee shop to allow visitors to admire the gardens from a table in this calm place. No amenities unfortunately. Stunning fountains and fresh air.

Wonderful gardens with very few visitors. We were with an Italian friend who has heard there was a free tour, but there were no signs and the guy at the ticket office didn't say anything, so we asked and our names were put on the list (you'll need some Italian to do it). Apparently a different one of the various buildings is opened for the tour each week. We saw inside the limonaia with a very bored and fast-speaking guide who told us Margaret Thatcher had stayed there, though the picture she pointed to on the wall was of Princess Margaret!!! The gardens are a little run down, but definitely worth seeing.

We didn't come for accommodation, I am not reviewing hotel services.
Villa Lante might not be as opulent as villa Farnese. It is minor in every way. But the adjacent garden is worth visiting. Quite lot of water works there. There is also park next to the villa with free entry. There is not much there except for the nature, trees and such. Also you can find a derelict fountain further down the way uphill.

A wonderful house to exhibit in the mediaeval town. Owned by Cardinal Gambara, it shows the power and wealth of the period. The garden and its water features with cascading fountains is exquisite. It's well worth a visit to see this Italian rennaisance garden. Recommend.

Not as magnificent as Villa Farnese, but still beautiful.
They neither have POS, nor change to give you when you are buying a ticket. The price of the ticket is 9€ (written in pencil over the price of 8€ printed on the ticket).

Very pretty garden, similar to Versailles. This has been a great visit in winter, blue skies and few visitors. Love all these medieval towns! #alagreenviaggia

Beautifully designed gardens with fabulous waterworks. However, the whole place is in a state of disastrous neglect, the water works in disrepair and the garden is unkempt. It is so sad to let a beautiful landmark go to seed like this. The Italian government or the county should be held responsible for this disrepair. There are plenty of migrants or honorary workers Who would happily help to put the gardens and the fountains back into order I am sure and this at next to no cost. It is a shame!!!!!

Such a romantic garden! Admire how the fountains were arranged and manipulated to creat a beautiful landscape. The garden is not massive so it gives a very intimate and quiet atmosphere. Definitely recommend a visit in late afternoon to take advantage of the softened sunlight.

Wonderful afternoon for the whole family. Well designed gardens and fountains along the villa.
The downside- that I can't order tickets online and accept only cash...

After coffees we walked the short distance to Villa Lante and paid the standard €5 cash to get in. This was also built by a cardinal so that was obviously a wise career choice for the Italian nobility. We couldn't go into the villa itself but there were two summer pavilions, each decorated in a similar style to the Palazzo Farnese. The main attraction though was the gardens, specifically the water features and fountains. These were cleverly designed to link each of the three terraces together and were absolutely beautiful, both visually and aurally.
We spent almost two hours in the gardens and it was lovely just taking in the new view as we climbed each terrace. Each layer and fountain of the garden had an excellent information board so there was no shortage of stuff to read too! We walked back to the car park via a passageway with a mural detailing the procession of the Sacred Fire of St Anthony of Bagnaia, a local festival.

During my recent trip to the charming town of Viterbo, I had the pleasure of exploring the renowned Renaissance garden of Villa Lante in Bagnaia. Covering an area of approximately four hectares, the garden is spread across three main terraces and is considered one of the most famous Renaissance gardens in the world.
The garden's most notable feature is its unique "prospect garden" design, which creates an illusion of depth and perspective through the strategic use of fountains, water features, and architectural elements. Walking through the garden, I couldn't help but be struck by the stunning beauty of the meticulously manicured hedges, colorful flower beds, and intricate stonework.
As I made my way through the garden's winding paths and hidden corners, I discovered a variety of fascinating features and surprises, including hidden grottos, whimsical sculptures, and breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. It was easy to see why Villa Lante is one of the most visited attractions in Tuscia, with approximately 85,000 visitors per year.
Overall, my visit to Villa Lante was a truly unforgettable experience, and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Viterbo. Whether you are an art lover, a history buff, or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of nature, the garden's stunning design, intricate details, and serene ambiance are sure to leave you spellbound.

Ideal setting for summer parties - splendid Italian style formal garden with fountains, cascades, statues and
two small palaces which are only partly opened to the public but are worth visiting for its splendid wall painting.
Built by the Farnese family, this lavish decorated mansion houses fine art & furniture collection.
Very beautiful place, not a lot of people so it was a nice and relaxing visit, and the gardens are a must.We visited in spring and all the flowers were in bloom.

Wonderful ancient villa with a rich history. Not the easiest to get to but a cool trip. Only €5 admission. It's too inexpensive i think. And the restaurants in the town are good.

There is so much to see, really incredible place. And the other garden, the outer one, was closed. Every room has some decoration. Even the town, Caprarola is worth seeing. It might be typical Italian town or just from region, but for the foreigner it's something different. We've been here on May so the flowers were blooming and all nature was dressed in green.

An impressive palace hidden in a small town. Perhaps one of the most unique villas of the Farnese family, it is a breathtaking fortress-like palace richly decorated with frescoes.

This is a beautiful Villa and garden to visit. When you buy the entry ticket, it’s worth asking for the audio guide. You get a QR code, and can download the app. The tour covers the building, garden and artworks, and is well worth it. You need your own headphones. The staff are all very helpful, and there’s a good bookshop. Highly recommend.

Beauty in stone and frescoes. Miz only the staircase is fantastic. Frescoes are gorgeous, however, I love the gardens most, especially at the very top of the estate, around the casina. The fountains are amazing.

Breathtakingly beautiful. A place full of historic marks. One of the best kept secrets near Rome. Very few people when we were there, felt like an exclusive tour.

Every door you pass is a "wow" moment. Save time for visiting the building because it has so many details in architecture and paintings you could easily stay hours looking to them. There is a great organization of the tour pass, so you can have good information to visit each space. And don't miss the superior garden, it is also incredible and a great breathing zone specially in a hot summer day. Definitely it worth visiting.

We were able to park right next to the palace but were already in the overflow car park although I have no idea where everyone else was as we only saw one other couple in the almost three hours that we were there. The palace is in a superb location with quite incredible views and well outside the hustle of Rome for a busy cardinal!
I had heard of Farnese but didn't know any detail - Alessandro Farnese, who had most of the work done on the palace - was made a cardinal at 14 and ended his long career as Vice Chancellor. He used his position to amass wealth on a staggering scale and his income was 1% of the entire GDP of Catholic Europe in the sixteenth century. On the plus side though he was a notable patron of the arts and sciences and an antiquarian as well as being a doting father.
The palace stayed in the Farnese family from 1521 until 1731 when the Bourbons of Naples inherited it. in 1941 it was appropriated by the state and has been publicly owned since then.
Entrance was €5 each, cash only of course, and we were then given free reign to explore. I'm not usually into these kinds of buildings but the art work and design of this place was stunning. Probably not surprising considering the resources but wealth and taste don't always go together. The map room was certainly my favourite, a world map and then continental maps, based on the latest scientific knowledge at the time.
The design of the palace was based on a planned fortress so it was hexagonal in shape with a circular courtyard. The route through was excellent with detailed explanations in every room and we just took our time wandering through. The staircase was particularly amazing but very difficult to photograph without a tripod. After a couple of hours we exited the building into the gardens.
The first part of the garden was a formal box hedge design and we didn't spend long there but the High Garden consisted of a 5-10 minute walk through beech forest before reaching another ornate building. Anywhere else this building would have been impressive on its own but here it was just a summerhouse. There was long water feature and more hedges along with lots of classical statues. As we were walking back we saw other visitors for the first time!
